But probably by a year from now, it's going to be about fifteen dollars a month. Sign up today, get in early. Puckports dot comot I checked out the AI bought on Google. I mean, you're talking a quarter of a million dollars before Mary Lou graduates from that place Dockports. com We're at new shows all the time I thought Washington State was out of line with going to seventeen thousand for tuition next year What is going on? Did you know that back in nineteen seventy four when I was a freshman at Washington State, it was two hundred and ninety dollars a semester to go to school there? Well, it used to be affordable just like everything else. used to have used to have a, you know, a forty hour A week job, blue collar Job wherever, didn't have to graduate from school. You could buy a house, own it, pay it off for not too long and send your kids to college. No more That is gone. That American dream is down the toilet You got to make six figures to live in Sattle, don't you gotot to you that steal and live on the sidewalk. I don't know. Jesus. Yeah It's unbelievable. All right, I' pluing plug in the website. I'm pluing the Mariners. whereere you at? I mean, this road trip didn't go the way they wanted it to. They go four and six Guy God, every time I get an alert on my phone, there's another injury. Can we just I wanted them. I thought there was a way through Six games of the road trip to end wave the white flag. We're just coming home And we'll forfeit the rest of the games Well, I know this is crazy coming for me because my glass is either empty or half empty, but it's rarely half full or full. But I don't think there's any reason to be concerned all of a sudden. I've come around, mayaybe I'm listening more to you because you've always preach patience and you seem okay with things and it's gonna be all right in the end But when you look at what was going on in that road trip where they had injuries going into it And then even more injuries sustained during the road trip What were we supposed to expect on that? And then didn't it seem like they were out there forever Probably because they were, it was ten games I mean, my God, my wife kept going, They're playing Baltimore again. That series didn't seem to end. So yeah, I'm giving the benefit of the doubt on this one. They got Cal and JP coming back tomorrow and likely Randy and So I think they're going to be just fine I get that there are reasons to be concerned about this team long run too And's let's remember though that they were thirty seven and thirty six at this time last year and We know how that season ended and this team maybe could have the same type season from here on out That's a good one. I did not know that They were they were basically the identical records thirty seven and thirty six Yeah I do research, man. I'm on it. You know, Luke Aarkkin's on Twitter, that's where I got that one So there you go. I'm on it, Puck Pe don't think I show prep, but I do. I show prep rip off mch this morning. Yeah listen because I heard you were on there this morning. God, you were fantastic as always. Wasn't on there this morning. I was on he just reuses it from a week ago Well, Well, okay, I don't care when it was taped or recorded or whatever. you were on this morning. when I was listening, all right? You did a good job. Well think. All you guys talked about was his trip in Europe though. No one really gives a shit about Mitch C. I know I agree. I agree. that was it was kind of a waste. Yeah. no one does care. Yeah I'm not I'm not I just did not know they have the identical schedule that they had last year. I really didn't know that. What goo ahead. says the guy who's trying to go to Sicily I' to be honest with you,. I had no idea they had golf courses in Sicily No idea That's ye odd. Yeah. Apparently they're really nice too. You should go. I'm sureure they are. I'm sure they're wonderful. I had no idea they had the same record that they had a year ago. That's a great little I that. Tell Mary Lou to pay her own way because dad's going golfing in Sicily. She' gonna have to do something. Why don't you tell me that? We're actually gonna have to do something to figure it out. Yeah, I just I think the injuries and I think everything they've gone through, but here's the thing, I can't keep bringing up injuries. They may never be healthy I mean, that is a reality. They just gonna be dealing with this all year long. I guess I'm just crossing my fingers and that they won't be that they eventually will get back to full strength And then I think they do if they do get back to full strength or as close as that they can get back. So that's, you know, Naillor what Naylor has been battlled Naylor feels like he's got to injury every game You know, Rose Arena, I know that one's recently We we talk about Jid. Did David forget how to catch a ball, by the way It's it's just weird to me and I don't know how Emerson got that error. And there was another one where people were saying, Well, if he had caught the ball, he would have gotten in the his way. I think he's hurt. I think there's something wrong with him and it's affecting Remember, he wasn't regarded as a great first baseman when they acquired him. was that was the story But then when we saw him with our own eyes, we're like, I don't, I don't get it. He's unbelievable over there Yeah. Well, if not unbelievable, he's beyond passable. I mean, he certainly I don't look at him I mean, he's not Evan White over there. We all know that, but Well Devin White did win a gold glove. you're right about that. So I you know, I think he's just been dealing with a bunch of injuries and But again, may maybe a few days of just resting, you know, hitting that ball off aition he'll be okay. But they just have had just they've had a lot of injuries that have all piled up on Munos now out now down brash. He may get your wish of having Bizardo be your closer. I asked Bill Kruger about your idea of Bizardo. He didn't really address it. so that means he tells me that he didn't like the idea Okay again, what idea does Bill like He's got an idea. Does he you want me to tease it or just tell you what he wants to? No, justust tell us. I get sick of those teas. Oh Well that's what I'm not going to be too. I'm a Pux pososse member and you know, I'll listen to Kruger though. I think he' free. It's Krger is free Oh Krug is free Do not know you should You should charge for Kruger There's three shows that you have to pay for. Are unaware of how this works? You don't even know. You don't even really listen to the other three shows, do you? I don't, but I'm paying you Have you never listened to Divish No You know, I listen to when you I listen to him when you have the excerpts in your your regular show. So you don't ever, you pay, but you don't ever listen to it because you don't know how to listen to it, right No, it shows up in my email. Yeah, but do you not to listen to it on your phone Yeah How do you do it? Why go to Puck Sports? I downloaded the app It's not on there why isn't it on there 'cause that's a it's a different So you don't know how to. Okay, wait a minute, wait minute, ait minute. If I'm running Puck sports, which I believe that's what you're running because your name is Jason Puckett and your nickname is Puck And this is it pucksports. com. And if I have an app that says Puckports, that should be a one stop shop for everything. It's not how works. in a perfect world if I had Millions of dollars to spend on an app. Yes Patreon is how you listen to the Bonus show. So you don't know how to listen to it because you don't know Well, correct. Yeah. Well, I appreciate having, you know, if I'm gonna pay five bucks So listen, I'd like someone who actually covers the Mariner's team like Adam Jude or Tim Booth. You know, could taken Davish is takaking so much time off. I don't know whether he's, you know, coaching his his for good reason here or he's watching his stepkids graduate from high school Okay, well whatever the reason is, I, you know, why don't you get Jude to pinch it for him when he's gone. I mean just, you know, he's watching is it okay that he watches his stepkids graduate? No, not okay. I know. I know you know you don't like, Yeahah, I don't know if you do or not. I love Divish but I don't love him enough to, you know, go and find out how to, you know, get on the podcast, but whatever Well than you. I read you know it it's just it's refreshing to hear someone that claims that you're a friend say that they don't listen to your work evenven though that when when your stories come up, I click on them and I actually read them. Did you read the whole system story You did read the whole first of all, you didn't write it. You just copied and pasted it from the we. No, was It was a copy and paste. Is it fair enough to say that Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, I listen to your show I do. I hear kid don'tisten every Tuesday. don't you don't listen to the the extra shows I don't. why pay the money? I'm being honest because I'm supporting my friend Like Todd Millis. Do you think I'm reading about high school sports? I'm not, but I love Todd Millis, so I'm giving them five bucks a month. You sh he does great work. And even if people think I'm a shitty writer or whatever, I'd appreciate it if they paid me five bucks a month anyway. But if they don't what if So you want me to continue paying you five dollars five a month, but then don't read it What Well, do you get my point? I mean, sometimes you support people because you like them and you respect them., But it'd beice it' be nice if you listen to it and be like, hey, that was really good Okay. this going be one of those times when the show iss over that you call me and say, God, Jim, I'd appreciate it if you, you know, were more supportive at least publicly. Probably Probably. Yeah. probably one of those. lot of lefties coming up against Boston So your favorite thing things going to happen. They're going to sit your your favorite player Dom Canzone who's three hundred eighty with six home runs and the second best OPS. I believe in baseball since may twenty fourth Well, and they're going to say that he wouldn't have the best OPS in baseball if they trotted him out there against lefties. Right. And that means we're going to get another dose of Rob Rh Sneidder. and So at what point do we give up on R Snider? Is it at the end of the year? and is it a sliding scale like If he instead of I think they're paying him six million So if they paid him four million, would he be gone by now? If his salary is four million, three million? Wh whereere does that I mean, it's just simply because he's making six million because he's not helping the team Yeah, I would just like I think I think like everybody else, I think I would like to write it out with him against some lefties. Let's just see if he can hit some left hand Let's just try it. Wait try it. Did I hear that have hly Yeah, but I've I'm not I'm not one I'm not a big platoon guy. Oh, you're talking about Can'z own. I thought you were going to say that you're Wait now, we're talking about Dom Can' Dies. Yeah Well, I some people automatically get pigeonholed as someone who can't hit left against left or right against right. I. I don't understand that because how do you get better if you don't face them more often I mean the law of averages, I guess would would would pan it, you know, would play out that he can't hit it. but I just I meanuck does a sweeeper from a lefty bother a lefty more than a sweeeper from a righty bothers a right handed hitter? Well, I mean, Yeah, probably I don't know. I mean, they've got to have some reason behind why they don't do it And his numbers historically would say that he doesn't, But he's just hitting the ball so well right now and Ray at the same time that they deserve to be playing more And again, that I'm just going to be a real interesting to see how Wilson and the crew does it against Boston because as of now, they got three straight left handers going. for the Red Sox. So we'll see, we'll see what they do. Are you into this? I'm going to move on for the Mariners because I'm done with them. Let me ask you one more thing. What would you do at Pereadea and Garber If you keep only two. I said I was moving on. I know you did, but I just I'm curious as to what you would think because I'm kind of a Johnny Paradet a fan all of a sudden. I love his at bats. He even I mean, he struck out yesterday in his first at bat, but I still and you would say, well, that's not really a good at bat, but I thought it was. I likek that kid And yet he sucks it I like Py to More, but they they're not. I like Preyaore. I would keep them over Garver, but they're they're not going. They're going to Garver is going to stay and they'll send Pereta down he has options. That's what they're going to do Okay would be my my best guess and because Cal's going to come back. Cal and JP going to come back tomorrow on Tuesday and Garvers' Cals the guy that want to Garver back So Cal's going to tell him. and you saw how the relationship with the pitchon. I think the pitchon is going to weigh in and why wa wait u till you hear, Well, you won't len to it because you don't like, you don't listen to the show. but Kruger goes off on Emerson Hancock Goes off. Oh for Hancock going off on Pereto. He does not hold back on Emerson Hancock, how he treated Johnny Pareta. So that's coming up a little bit later in the show. And I'll be interested to see I said last word. now I'm doing more is where's JP when they start their series Tuesday. if he's going to be back Is he at third base now we going to finally do the third base thing because Colt Emerson should play shortstop because he just plays it better And we just got to play the best guys and And's a he's a better short stop than JP Crawford. It's obviously anyone of the time that's played. So move JP overver third and see what he does And also they need to keep Cole Young as a leadoff hitter. They have to he JP doesn't get to go back to that spot Cole Young is a better in the limited sample size. I think it's forty three plate appearancies like three hundred sixty And OPS like eight seventy He looks comfortable there. K him there G JP was pretty good as a leadoff hitter. Not that good. What' who's a better offensive hitter with power? C younger JP Crawford. C Okay. All right. Here's what I I think you're right In fact, I know you're right. All right? You're right about that. But what will the Mariners do though? Because if I'm the Mariners I' thking, Hey, man, we're already asking him to switch from short stop to third base and then we're going to ask him to go from first to ninth. Professional sports, man I'm so exwn I know. This is not Little League anymore Yeah, I know Puck, But they would have had Castillo in the bullpin if they weren't considering feelings by now. just stop it justust rip rip the bandid off and go. All right Re quick. Are you watching this World Cup? This is a great game that we're as we're going now this Spain and Cape Verdy, this thing is great. This goalteender for this Cape Verdie guy has stopped everything A. Oh, it's unbelievable And then we got the U or not the US. but the first game in Seattle is starting pretty soon y soon with the Belgium fans. Have you seen all these videos? I'm going to get to it. Hey, what the fuck of these Scottish fans that have taken over Boston Oh, I heard something about that. Yeah. I a brief little clip about it. You got to go just search the internet. Scottish fans taking over Boston. It is unbelievable That's great That's great. Yeah, That's fun. Are you into the World Cup itself? Yeah. great. are I'm a huge soccer fan. And we've talked about this before, but I'm a huge, big events guy Like I'm not a I'm not a I don't sit there and watch college baseball every week. Like I you do now You do now with what the series does College worldorld Series. I'm all in and the World Cup. Yeah. this is great The passion of these fans that come over here of these international fans, their countries and their sports and singing their national anthem This you got to go watch this The Scots singing their national anthem at Foxborough. It broke a decibel record. It was that loud. Then they took over Fenway Park. I mean took it over Yeah 's great N there's nothing. And then and then there's a photo circling the interternet. I want you to find of these three German women And I'm just telling you Deutschland the home country, That's where I bleed. God bless them. They just God bless them. Okay. Oh my Lord. Can you text that to me I will text that to you. Yes. Yeah. And then have you seen this the Japanese team. There's a photo circling interet this Japanese team that cleaned up their locker room. They leave it pristine. I think wherever they' playing out I can'ta which park they were at And then the Japanese fans, I guess this is part of their They're saying All the Japanese fans, once the game is over, sit in their section where they're at and clean it up Don't make the workers do it, clean it up themselves. That's a note to all you slobs in America, all of you, that when you get stuff and you just shove it underneath your seat and you know, you're like, oh there's someone's going to go clean it up Just walk it up yourself and clean it up It's pretty you That's awesome to hear that. Litter is my number one pet peeve when there's garbage cans everywhere or you can keep it in your car and get rid of it when you get home. It bugs me puck that baseball players are such slobs and that it's okay just to throw their gatorade cups and spit their seeds and tobacco everywhere I always think about those guys, even when they're celebrating out there Leave the seeds in the damn dugout. Somebody has to be picking those things up off the infield and it's not you I don't get it. I just I'm with you. You want G for the Japanese for doing that because litters it's It's not necessary, okay? It's just not Litter put that on a teir. Litter, It's not necessary. What makes what makes you think when you're in your car all of a sudden when you're done with your big Mac that you could just throw the the bag out the window. I don't get people do people still do that Really? Yes. obviously God I know weird that it is weird that you will drive with that and you will just throw it, you know, most people don't throw stuff out the window. But when we're at a sporting event or the movies Yeah, people just feel like I'll just throw it on the ground and and somebody else will get it. It is very odd to me that people do that Very odd. Okay, now is an apple an apple core litter when you throw it out your window? Okay, I'm guilty of that because I do that. I've done that too, but I hear that that's litter, although it's biodegradable, isn't it? always throw it. I always think there's going be some animal that's going appreciate this half heaten apple in the ditch. That's right I usually throw it into like a U like like a green space. that's what I do Okay Yeah All right, I'm guilty of that and a bana peel. I do that So maybe I'm partle thinkinker. they're not as biodegradable at all. They do yes, of course they are Well, that's more borderline than Appleore, I think. Okay. All right, I want to set a scenario for you. I was at baseball all weekend for the vampires baseball team. I want to set up a scenario for you, which you and I were talking before. By the way, you people that live on Mercer Island You guys got it going pretty good over there. I'm gonna tell you that right now. I don't spend a lot of time over there, even though it's real close, but Jesus. You guys got a good thing going over there Mercer Island. I'm gonna tell you right now, real good thing Keep that a secret over there. God My favorite part was driving in the ballpark and driving by four horse stables. A private tennis club Just waterfront homes going. It's kind of different over here. I think they've only had one murder in the last twenty years or something like that. Well, yeah. yeah, I can probably see that. I can understand why. Just real nice over there You're kind of in the forest in like in the middle of nowhere when you're over there. It's unbelievable Just for just so your listeners will know. we talked about this before the show starteded. And like it sounds like Puck is surprised that life is good on Mercer Island It is It is. No, you're right. It's nice over there, No shit. It's Mercer Island. You find the worst house in Mercer Island. Just Google it, the worst house in Mercer Island. It's a million five at least. Okay, fine, but I did see some crappy houses though, on my way. I mean, were a million five For sure maybe, but yeah, it's real nice over there. So I'm going to set up this scenario for you the first game of the day We are playing And I want to just set I want to I want you to tell me what the official ruling should have been Okay. Okay, so you disagree with what the ruling actually was Yes, and I think most people will But I don't know The game starts Second pitch of the game oppposing We're piting We're in the field Guy hits a ball the third base thirird baseman knocks, you know, knocks it down Doesn't feelield it cleanly, but knocks it down. plenty of time to get it up and throw over to first By the time he knocks it down and picks it up, and he's got a great arm anyways to throw it over there, the guy's already at first base Now keep in mind, this is at this twelve you age. so For those the The bases are seventy feet Pitching mound is fifty Okay, So it's obviously smaller than a full size baseball field, but it's seventy feet. Little League is sixty And the pitching mounds forty six And our coach is sitting over there and the other team's coaches over there And our coach kind of I think says something to their coach, That That looks short And the other coach agreed. So they start measuring walking it off And then some one of them had, I think the opposing coach had something on his phone, like an app that you could literally like see the distance The field was set to not littleittle League, but a softball field. It was softball field size. So the mound was forty six and the bases were sixty, which is what softball is at every level, by the way. And then that's also Little League Blank. So they're in a big discussion. they change it all out because there's other pegs. they change the bases and then they they change the mound or they measure. It's like a fifteen minute break. Well, I'm and I've got the duty. everyverybody knows this. You probably never did it because you were drinking the whole time. I'm doing game changer You know it maybe everybody knows what game changer is, but it's just if you don't know what it is, it's a way to keep score the game for everyone So I'm doing and I walk over there kind of behind home plate and with the other team. I'm like, I look at the other I' Is the game going Are we going to resume this? because I got to exit out and restart it and all this kind of stuff. Like we going to And that's the discussion. We gott to restart the game we did weren't playing under the rules and the Length of the field Umpire says no We're going to keep the runner at first. G How much longer how much longer was it or shorter It's senty Yeah, ten feet, ten feet' the difference. Okay whichich is So do you think you think your third baseman after he got the ball would have rifled it over there and gotten the kid one hundred percent N one hundred percent No doubt in my mind Zero dout So that what is that next pitch dude? Let me just next pitch Steal second. Steals third I think we get a strike out. No no so it's one out. then there's a fielders's choice to second. guuy scores One now things strike out It's a great game. It's fast. it'ss's it's a well well played game. There's great defense everywhere. We end up losing. One Turn nothing. No way. first of all, there's a lot to unpack here. One. how many twelve year old? Travel baseball games has anyone ever seen where it's been one nothing with a I think combineed five hits I mean just you never happened So that one run scored on thele one run. was the difference? So I'm just curious. What is your ruling Well, I'm like you said, going into it, I'm one hundred percent with you on that one. There's no way that kid should have been allowed to be at first base when the game. The game needed to start over with the regular dimensions of the field. That was our argument. likeike way That shouldn't even be debatable. And even the even the the other coach should have agreed with that. He wouldn't have been upset W No because he's got a guy at first. why he's like no. Yeah, But don't you like to think though, especially at that age, you'd be thinking, yeah, we want to win this you you would think we want to win it fairly and I understand that our kids shouldn't be at first base right now. Well whatever. I mean, I don't they can do whatever you want, but And l at the end of the day twelve year old baseball No. No. But not I just screw that end of the day stuff. Your coach should have protested that game. whatever it. But to protest But you got to pay. I don't know what the rules are on that. I have no idea. You I think you got to pay. You got to pay cash if you want to protest. I'm not really sure. what I don't know. I don't know what they did afterwards, but that's a pretty that is a pretty crummy way to lose a game Is it was it a tournament you were in the first game of the tournament. Okay. well, I don't know. Wouldn't it pretty have been cool if you guys could have celebrated as the champions later on and And maybe I'm taking it too far, but I think that that's grounds for a protest. I just I think that the u my issues with the umpires. they should have just because it should have been their idea. likey I don't know and I don't know who's supposed to check the field I would assume it's them I don't M maybe it's the team that's designated the home teams got to check it to make sure it's of the the legal length. I don't know, but you would think they're putting on the tournament they should there should have been a tournament person there to be like, yeah, that's not right. It's not the length of it Or how about go ahead and once you find that out after the first batter continue play and give your team a chance. with the dimensions that they have. Well, that's the the bottom of the firstur. Thats That's the other thing that that's the other thing that you would look at it If you're going to allow them to have and again, just one batter to have it Then let's move them back and allow our guy to have that. whatever. I just the simplest thing was to start the game over. It was two pitches Sart the game over. And we'll reset esn't count on their pitch count. It's only two pitches and then we started over again. That's all they had to do.. That's a brutal way to lose.. We finished our day. I'm sure you've been there our weekend at Dakca Park. you know where that is over in Fife You've never been there, N never been to that far o. Anyways, I don't go to I just try and drive through five as quickly as possible. Okay. so maybe you've never been there. I went to one of the greatest burger joints in Fife that's been there forever And I just discovered it on Sunday. haveave you ever heard of pickQick driving? I have not. Oh you guys I've only heard of the poodle dog in five. Well, it's right by the poodle Dg. Right by the poodleg. So listen, go when you're driving up or back or whatever on five, if you're ever going that way Okay. Go to pickQick, dririve in and Fife Okay, What sets it apart It's just one of those great old school burger joints, you know? it just has the look to it, the whole thing, you know, the old school fifties driving great shakes, mal they got malts. no one serves malts anymore. Great malts. great Burgers I got a horde shot of milkshake Oh, that sounds good. Yeah. You seemed really intrigued and enthralled by this story. So what you want me to say? What do you want me to say No I can't wait to an something then. Okay, How about this? Let me start over. Th, two, one. God, You sleep. I'm usually in bumper to bumper traffic in FIF, and you know, that's a great idea. I should just take the Fife exit and head to the pick quuick or quick upp or whatever it was and get a burger and a hor chota milkshake. There you go. I'm glad you brought that up Got just something. justust give me some excitement Other than I mean, you look like you're falling asleep over there. You awake? I'm notent over there No is fire and death I'm fired up just like in Seattle. It's supposed to be in the nineties down here today and I've got, you know, some stuff I'm gonna to do and Oh, what are you going? Okay, last thing for you, last thing for you for this show ends because this can't this show can't end fast enough.' I'll be honest with you. this this can't get overhe. I know. I'm falling asleep during the free show and then not even, you know, I'm money and not even listening to the pay shows. but I can't I can't wait This It's we're not doing the show yet with Egan where we want to put somebody on the barge but this guy goes on the barge Chris Pratt who's from here, I don't know where he grew up, but he grew up somewhere in Seattle. arerea. Big SOux fan right? because he' got to tell you that is a big Sux fan just like Mina Kimes and all these other people there. They gott to tell you how great a big SAux fan they are all the fucking time on social media. Big SAux fan. been a Cux fan all my life. you know all they got They just got to press it on you how big of a COx fan they are This douche bag went and bought a one of those rings that we told you was for Sam. The guy that designed him is selling seventy six of them for sixteen grand and this guy bought it This is so dumb on so many different levels Number one is If I'm Chris Pratt or anyone that buys it, this is the most douche baggery thing you could ever do in life. E, ever do You had no role in the team winning the Super Bowl. Zero, Zilch zippo. You didn't do anything. You watched the games and you cheered. That's all you did. You didn't go to training camp, You didn't go to practice You didn't have to grind out an NFC championship game. You weren't in the organization. You didn't work behind the scenes. You didn't jack shit. other than you're an actor that has sixteen grand and you can go buy a ring and then wear it around like you're part of the team. You're not part of the team What are you doing? And then the other thing is the fact the SOx allowed this to happen. What are you Dumb Don't let anybody go buy a ring that he can wear the same ring that Sam Darnold can wear and Ken Walker and Leonard Williams guys that sacrificiceed time and effort and off seasons and all of this So this loser can go buy one So God, it's so doochy Okay All right, the biggest part of me agrees with you on that But there is that part of me that If I'm a rabid Seahawks fan, I like to think that I had something to do with the outcomes there at Loomin Field because of the noise that I make. And then Mike McDonald, he plays into that too. Talking about the twelves, Pete Carol Poing the term twels. everyverybody's so excited about being a twelve and being part of it. So that's Another way for the Seahawks to make money off of the rings and then also to incorporate their fans. The Seahwks aren't making money off the rings. Okay. well, whatever. I mean, fans feel like they're part of the team And so So should that I mean, if if the kgs if if the kus won a national championship and they had rings. would you be no part. Okay. how about the other part I'm not on the team Okay, the other part of it that I brought up Friday on the PME show which I think is free for everyone if you want to tune in it is. Thanks I thought it was a good idea that you Chris and I should have pulled together five five thousand five hundred if we could find it and buy a ring ourselves and then put it on Facebook Marketplace or eBay And we could How much of those things going for now? I know it's more than sixteen thousand. Well, sixteen is where you can buy from the guy. I don't know know, I know, but if you go on Facebook markarketplace and somebody's selling those things, they're probably getting thirty grand now for that. It whatever. this if I'm Chris Pratt I'm embarrassed for myself. embarrassed ook' been sixteen thousand dollars for a ring that I had zero, any zero, nothing to do with it Huck, I agree. I agree, but People are coming up to Chris Pratt, his buddies, his relatives. Everybody's saying, God, that's really cool, Chris. Yeah, yeah, great. They're douche too. They're douche bags too. All of them. putut them all on the barge. I mean, I'm just going to give you an early glimpse of what the barge is going to be this week Chris Prat every one of his get bigger barge than. We've got Obviously the injury was will get into that Bryce Miller, JP and Cal reinforcements back on the way want to ask you something about Cole Young, lots of lefties come up and then a non mariners Pitching Qestion. Let's first start with with just the overall road trip. They go four and six. how How much is this bad Mariners baseball that they played on this road trip And how much do you put on all the injuries that they sustained on the stream? I think the injuries are starting to take its toll. I mean, this team's pretty deep and talented. you know, they got extra pitching, they They found other characters in the lineup that can deliver and they've delivered all season long. But when you start subtracting every Serious a mainstate player. It eventually takes its toll and the team has just run out of gas playing without without Raleigh and really without Butonovan, but more specifically without Raleigh. They just they've had a month and they're just they're they're they're just they're breathing in the fumes. they need him back. And they're going to get him back. And this division is accommodating Nobody's over five hundred. The Mariners have a little bit of a You know, so so trip, I won't say it's awful Um had that one that sliip through their fingers, but then they kind of pulled off a couple in Baltimore. So those, I guess even out to a degree. And they didn't really stop the other team from scoring, but this is a playing in hot weather and East Coast ballparks and you're going to give up a little bit more than you do at Tam Mobile Park. So put a lot of it on injury. I also put a lot of it on roster construction, and we talked about that a little bit. This club's very left handed on the offensive side. pitching side They got their're long suited and starting pitching And even with the Nicks at the end of the game. They got a decent core at the end The problem is the drop off And the drop off matters when you start to go deep into the organization to find guys that can pitch What we call the backkend the long end of the bow pen There's a real significant drop off there And the starting pitching hasn't been able to overcome to a place where they could get to the good guys every time every game out. And that to me, is the most telling problem is that they just won't give in the adding one more pictchure one of those starters to the bullpen and helping themselves since they don't have any deatht. So u Boy, you know, at some point, someomebody's going to have to make a tough decision, but I don't think they will. H. They'll just wait till, you know, people to come back and play the same way So what what's the tough decision then is the tough decision. You've never really been on board with the six man rotation. So you want to eliminate that and put one of them in the bllpin I think it's Miller's been so good So you're putting Castillo on the bo and it's not as if since they went to the piggyback He has he's pitch well. He pitits well. In fact, they've maybe pulled them a little too quick. you know, he's got that kind of arm. We've talked about it that I think he can throw one hundred hundred fifteen pitches. S some of those games where, you know, it's two runs, three runs, six inning ninety pitches, whatever he's got got to come out play the matchup And the defense didn't play for him in Washington. That's the first time he gave up some runs, but really three att least three. I think they end up giving one of them the hit on the ball to third base, so it ends up being four runs, but changed that later. He deserved. he deserved. I mean at two runs instead of one as far as earn runs are concerned. So he deserved a better faith for sure defense didn't play very well there, but I think the most telling thing is just roster construction and How you Crap your best approach with the pictchures you have day and day out. and you're light in the bullpen and you're heavy in the rotation and you have to wonder, wouldould Kirby and W pitch better if they were on term? Would any of them pitch better if they're on turn But it seems really not on turn because we get an extra day off anyway. but I mean seven days is too low It seems like it has been andfitted Miller. It doesn't seem like there's been any off or has affect Gilbert Do you Kirby's coming off a decent decent star to give three earn runs and struck out ten. Do you think it's do you think it has affected Kirby and Woo I mean, Woo's problem all year long has been on the road. So I don't know what it is. Is it is it a road issue or is it Now we're getting too much time off. I thought giving him an extra day or two would actually benefit someone like Brian Wood I just don't think it should benefit anybody But I think if it does benefit anyone, it probably is Logan Gilbert. He's got great work ethic giving him an extra day to get two more ticks on his fastball because he's a he's a stuff guy He wins with stuff Now we watch Ru and Kirby, they've w to pitch in the strike zone with fastballs And when you don't have real good command to your fastball because you're a little strong, can take its toll And I thought it I think it has subtly affected both of those guys. You can't make excuses. You have to go out pitch and Um you're going to have ups and downs. Us and downs are part of the game. You know, Brian Wu, for me, needs Raleigh backack. he gets he gets a little the games the game speeds up on him. And he struggles when things start to go awry, he kind of loses himself a little bit of the mount He's got to get back to you know, getting getting his his thinking thinking ahead of the game a little bit. So he he stays with the game and executes a little bit better. I mean, The game in Detroit a bas is loaded they Yank him out and they go to the bullpen and Ro Blays boxes the ball the right field, not an easy play and that really changes him from a three run game to a five run game And then the game in Baltimore. Boy, you know He got to understand these guys he's this small park and they like the fastball and he's got to mix it up a little bit more. and he's got to be either above the line or below the line, but when he's at the line or in the middle of the strike zone, that's just not good enough, right Um, and we could talk about Hancock in the same vein as last start yesterday. So I just think five man rotation is the way to go. We got a young staff that's that just needs to keep bring those best guys around more often. So I think that's what they have to do and Castillo's the odd guy out. That's just how it has to be. How do How do you sell that to Castillo If you're Dan Wilson, you are Hollander and Doto Well, I think we just too took a look at our staff and we chose that You're the odd guy out because we get better we got we got a better future and better performances from the other guys. It doesn't mean you're dead in the water. You just go out there and pitch. Hp the team w. We got a championship quality team. thingsings can happen. things can change All right I don't know how you can handle it But right now, we don't have anybody in the middle Weed are short. with Chris Well, he's hurt, but I never thought he was any great digs anyway And then that other cast that's out there, that just isn't good enough. Those guys, those guys can't pitch when the games even Maybe they can pitch one way behind, but they can't they can't pitch them the games either They're not good enough. is part of the problem that these starters when they've gone to this six man rotation. No one can get them through seven innings. I know the gold standard now is six settings But they can't even get through seven innings. I mean, would it not be Would it not be a success what they're doing if these guys could at least get them through seven That takes a different type of training You have to be willing to understand You watch the guy U Mizaroski. Maagues What was his name that Michael Michael Michael Nicholas Michas Michas Micholas. That's that's the nineties baseball right there. because of course he comes on the scene And u Anyway, part of the program where the way by room that Kruger does the show in It' the w goes dark he's got to wave his hands It to wave and go around the park. the wave. Oh Yes Well, you watch him pitch and of course, you know, Aaron tees it up. Oh this guy he doesn't strike people out. Oh your RA is awful, but he's been pitching better. But then he's pitched ten years, but Oh, but you know, no whiff, no strikeout. It's like Watching pitch. Howidy Pitch Hey good stuff. pitching the strike zone Lots of space in his pitches. good good execution. goodood stuff but now great He just It's like you're supposed to pitch. you know Strikeouts are fun. They're fun. They're course they are. Theyre they're like they're eye popping they don't necessarily win. Here's the problem. If you don't if you can pitch a little bit more to contact, and that doesn't mean lay it in there. It's about understanding where the fastball has to be early in the game. And if you understand this guy likes to ball in, the sky likes to ball the away. Sky likes to ball You know, you can do some things and you can get early contact and you get the defenseive playing and the main game moves along. just like when we watch thatame That guy d to the Mariners yesterday. Okaykay. thenen but here's the problem. you pitch for whiff and you run out of juice. And then when you're in the sixth and seventh, you've used a lot of pitches. you're not trained to pitch past ninety Plus you don't know how to get the early contact. You don't know how to execute the fastball in the spot that it needs to be because you're so used to doing what? Spin, chase the top line spin, chase the top line. spin chase the top line And whiff, whiff, whiff because that's what we teach it. Empty the tank, Epty the tank. I get so tired of hearing that What does that mean empty the tank. You know what empty the tank means? That means you pitch nine innings. That's emptying the tank Okay G see you win That's the tank I mean, it's just it should be obvious to everyone. I mean, you get, you know, you can get two pitches into a game and get a ground out to shortstop or second base. rather than going six, seven pitches and striking a guy out Be you're chasing off the edges all the time because you're taught to strike people out and then we bring in the reinforcements. Well, we don't have anybody in the sixth inning right now.. So we need you to pitch. Kirby had five scorelesss and got whacked around the sixth inning Gan he only had seventy five pitches. He left with with over one hundred. But again, these guys are just not, they're not We're not B training him to do that. So and I don't know if you can shift gears and just say, okay, I didn't really mean what I said before about the Whiff. We were going to write on the chalkboard, earie contact, you know, it's like, but the guys are like, Well, you know, nobody cares about wins when I go to arbitration. Nobody cares about, you know, my, you know, all they care about is my all those other numbers, right? Strike House were nine and Yiff and And all how hard I throw and all that stuff Let me circle back to Woo just real quick. We don't have to go deep into it. Do you think that what his issues have been on the road, What you've seen of him lately? Is this a byproduct of Cal not being around? I think Cal helps. I think Cal helps them all because of the Pitchcom era. but we watched it play out spage yesterday Hancock. I want to get into that. U the pitch com We'll hold that. We'll hold my breath on that. Yeah. But I think I think Cal really understands it. He orchestrates it. He understands the pitchers. They lean on him. They don't have to worry because he's he's stinking along with them. He knows them very well And I think they trust her and I and I think that's a big part of it. And he'll come out there and straighten you out if it needs to happen. Yeah. Now he still comes down to Wu's ability to perform And granted, he's a high fastball pitcher. He plays in the park at home with the you know, somewhat marinish air and you can hit the ball at the middle of the field forever and you get outs, right And he can live up there. And if he misses, it it's a deep flyball the right center. But then when he gets you out there, if you can just miss the one time where it's a three runound homer and that ball ends up being a long fly to center, then you win at the top line because you can pitch in the big ball park, right? Well you go to Canmen Yards, you go to Detroit, some of these places where the ball jumps like Detroit's a big bark carry is different. It's just different when you play on the East Coast. It's not the same as playing in T Mobile. It just isn't. He's got some execution issues He's got to pick one breaking ball You know, to right handers. He's got to pick the cutter or the or the sweper. I think and then not the cutter but the slider in the sweeper. If anything, he should take his fastball and either try to get on top a little bit more a little finger pressure and drive that ball in on those left hand hitters. All those guys need to learn how to do that. They all need to learn to stick the ball on the inside corner, not the fancy Greg Maddx, throw it behind their hip, swing it back. That's a dangerous pitch That's a risk reward pitch. And I think he needs to always change it more More changeus Castillo through twenty three percent change uppss his started in Detroit. How do you do? Much better Last start, notot as many changeus backack to the the I can I can put this ball perfectly in the spot slider. That's just perfectly laid in there for the left hand hitter to hit on the ballpark. I mean. You know, you got to stay away from those guys All right, let me go, let me you brought up Hancock. Let's get into Hancock So on the Sunday game he decides to wear the pitchcom. And I think the only other person that I think on this stap that's warned is Kirby. Yep, maybe Doid do it in spring training? I don't know if he's it during regular season I don't know. you know what? I should know that, but I think I just he he comes to mind is the only other guy that's done it What does that mean that Hancock did that is that when the decision that Cal comes back, we would assume the paradea he has got options will go down. They'll keep Garver, but Were you surprised wereere you surprised that he He wore that Yes I think you need I think it was a real statement and you're making because that little scene that they had in Detroit? Is that where it was? sounds about right. Yeahah or Baltimore. firstirst g to Baltimore. Yeahame in Baltimore, I think. Anyways, the whole scene where he's screaming at him on the down with a pitching coach out there. That's not good That's not good at all Bad You know what? you have final say You have final say. It'ss you have final say, Even with the pitchc, you have final say Fastetball down thew, no. That'ind clock, but doesn't the clider? Yes. But doesn't the clock muddy that now because you can't guess, but you know then you need You need to you need to be more demonstrative in that meaning prior to the game. So we know Crus wants to play. He wants to be He wants to survive. Right I thought that was just immature on the part of Kancock. And then he comes out and makes a statement and guess what happens He's throwing almost all fastballs. He doesn't throw any sweepers and they would shed at him that onening. gave up like five hits in a row. first hitch fastball. Where's the change of speed? You can't get I think he got it rubbed in his face personally. I mean, you're not going to get everybody out every time. He's been incredibly good incredibly good and a great pitcher. I like him and confidence. I love that too. But I think pitcher catcher relationship is important I don't ever remember standing out there screaming at a ketchup I would never do that ever place I never screamed a catchuer Because you know what? at the end of the day, it's me It's me. it's it's my responsibility to get the pitch right My responsibility, not is. but chemistry is important. And particularly with the pitchcom, you got to get it right. You gott to be ready. Speally, like you said, you don't have a lot of time So I thought that was such a bad statement to start the game. And what he said is like, I don't even want this guy out here Do I have to throw to him I guess I'll just call the game and whoever that guy is, I don't even know his name. someome guy that's sitting behind her catching baseballs for. toown Bryce Miller, not terrible. We touched on a little bit earlier, but since coming back and we touched on him, you know, being the guy that's going to be in the rotation If they ever were to make up move and and get away from the five man or the six man rotation What I want to go. I know where you're going to go with this. I think a lot of people would have loved to see him finish that game I mean he's at ninety one pitches You just don't see complete games anymore. ever. And he was right there And he could have done and he gets I don't know, one hundred five maybe. Maybe that's where That's and I get. he's got arm issues and he's had trouble and all that But man. And I would have we just would all had you if you wanted to let him finish it up, you know, it's like I almost got to be a shut up It's got to be under a hundred and it's got to be shut out. There bad. It's too bad. He's been Yeah it is. and he has been great to watch He been like look And I think, you know everybody's sort of taking the posture like, oh, so you're changing your mind on Bryce Miller. I never changed my mind on Bryce Miller I thought he was a weapon thought he could help the team in the bullpit I still think you could Right now, the things that I was sort of surmising and alluding to have happened, right? brrasses down You know, Munos is hurt having struggles I mean, what if this guy had already kited two or three times and was wowing in the buowpet? He'd be closing her mayay be closing right now Um He's pitch brilliantly as a starter as good as anybody in the league. This stretch of pitching has been incredible. Great stuff, great command, great efficiency. I mean, he's toyed with the league Nobody's touched him. I mean, it's really impressive Where do they turn next now closing situation, handed over to Ferrera? It's got to be committee Fic to me is a little scattery. I mean, he gets strikes, but there're he's not, you know He's by no stretch a guy that commands the baseball. He's kind of a big circle throwat in the big circle guy U Hey, look, you take what you think is your best option. He's pretty durable U He pitched better this last time so that maybe he got him straighten ide. he had that really struggle that performance in Detroit or through what forty pitches So piece it together how like serervice used to do it. Like serervice is different than how Dan Wilson does it He plays the leverage game and he'd use he'd use u S well and S Wald in like the seventh Yeah ourur good friend and I know you love him. the go to guy Jim Moore. You remember Jim Moore, right? I sure now retired. He lives and bend I don't know if you know this. He's got a substack. You can get it for five dollars a month, Dil Kruger. You can go read all of his work if you want And he's takaking people on golf trips now. do you know this? He's got a side business. He's opening a guy up he's taking golf trips. You can go with Jim and others. to Sicily next year if you'd like to. Yeah. it's's great. This is unbelievable business. What what a deal? What a deal What a deal. He likes Bizardo in that role. What do you think about Bizardo at the end You know, I'll tell you something Caso with the ball pen And I kind of see how he does And I would say there's the carrot because he could step in. I like starters as closers. If you don't have a premium closer, I like starters. I think starters, particularly starters that come to the end of their career or hit a crossroads. you move them to the closer role. He's in general generally speaking, he didn't walk people He's supremely confident And I think you could adjust to it and that might be what You could Put him in there. He's the best choice you got. He's the best choice you got. It's Castio And then everybody else stays in their role because everybody else is kind of like You know, they weren't good enough to start. That's why I were relvers. Now we get a starter that hits that point in his career Like Smolz like Eckersley we could go down the list of guys Yeah that kind of hit that point where they couldn't really succeed greatly as a starter. They move to to the closer role Closing is about confidence. Closing is about no walks Does Castillo have a little bit of problem with the home run ball? Yeah, you're going have to stay away from those left hand hits, man Pound them away them away and use your change up a little bit more. That's what he's got to do. got to stay of that loop zone, that little slippery slider he throws in there that gets whacked. Now he's got to work on that. He's got to stay away from left hand hters. put him there All right, do last things for you. Real quick two last things in nine games and forty two plate appearances Cole young is hitting three fifty nine. four hundred five, four sixty two, eight sixty six is the leadoff hitter. As we sit here on Monday and talk Tuesday, they'll start a six game homest. It's expected that Cal comes back and it's expected that JP comes back. Now JP's been taking a lot more work at third base I bet we see him at third base and they leave Emerson at shortstop Should they leave Cole Young as the leadoff hitter? He seems real comfortable there I got no problem with that because you know, I get JP coming back Oh Yeah, I think that that's a that's a good that's not bad idea. He's done well. He doesn't he's not unnerved by the situation and He's proven to be one of their steadier hitters. when you look at just all the things you talked about, plus he's hit better in that spot So the pressure of being a lead off hitter is not affected him at all. I mean, JP's proven that he can lead off. But I think, you know, right now maybe let JP hit down the order. He's going to play a different position and you know, continuue to hopefully find his stroke that he had when when he went when he got hit. He was atast sw in the back good. So A I'll be really interested to see if he's at third base. that that's pretty pretty interesting. we'll see if they we'll see if they do keep Yeah. I mean, the lineup You know, it's so interesting because all our slugging is at the bottom of the lineup, right? five the three, five hundred plus sluggers are all at the bottom of the lineup. Re can zone and u Our little star C E all hit all slugging over five hundred all at the bottom of the order All right, I don't know where you were but but this weekend. we saw a picture Throw a ball that was recorded at I think one hundred five miles an hour But I think more importantly, for you as being as a an old school baseball ty Complete game. Jacob Mizeroski, complete game one hitter. He struck out fifteen. He did it in ninety five. pitches I don't know how much if you've got a chance to watch him or I look at him. What just give me a give me some thoughts on him. Well's he's kind of a rubber band. You know, he doesn't look like some of the other guys that we've seen that through really hard Oh It's fun to see a guy with a big arm like that. He seems pretty comfortable in his skin. He doesn't want to tell you how great he is and Yeah he's got some other pitches. He throwt change up. He's got a good breaking ball. He could change speeds onn the ball leaps side of his hand for sure He was a strike thrower, Well he was a strike thrower the other day. That's why he got to the place where he could complete the game with fifteen m shots. I mean that' inccredible low pitch count for having that many punchouts. hundred five miles an hour. you know, I'm not going to take anything away from you because that's real velocity. one hundred five is real velocity, okay And we can get back to the old guy in a lawnchair that says that you know, we had guys that through the hard like that. I mean, no one through like that and Randy through like that. and they both pitched one hundred forty pch the game every five days. So That's a whole different breed of cat. but this guy's got a chance to be really special That's a market that loves baseball, small market And the brewers are a fun team They're kind of a team that doesn't have big stars and They find ways to win baseball games doing little things right and putting the ball in play. So you know, I kind of like the brewers plus I'm a former brewer. O course I'm a former everybody So yes, I am excited for for him and I thought he was it was fun to watch. He had such electricity coming out of his hand It's beautiful. Well, but you may be a former Mariner and A and Brewer, but you're ours now. you're not you're not a you're not a former puck sports contributor. That's right. I'm the player. Yes. Give them a call at two zero six, seven nine, three three, seven four four and visit them at Tersuli One of the coolest things I mentioned this earlier with Jim about the World Cup. I'm not the bigest socceran the world, but I get it for these big moments. It's cool. And it's cool to see how these other countries We get to experience how they view sports And no one is having more fun than the country of Scotland And their fans right now for the World Cup. Now I'm going to get a video what they they took over Finway Park. This weekend But what really set it apart, We'll play a little bit of it was their national anthem beforefore their first match at Foxboro this weekend It's an amazing moment there and sorry about the video tryingo get that up in there to play, but they they broke on a Dcibal record. They just were everywhere. The place was packed And then they were just they're all around the Boston area throughout the weekend and they'll continue to be there. They just look like they're having the time of their lives. They took over. I don't know if you have seen this. they took over Finway Park as well And they absolutely took over the place. And then they stayed like after the game out over, they were in the concourse like twenty, thirty minutes. it just very cool The point being the last word on this is It is just cool this tournament and like the WBC, we experience it, it's cool to see how other countries take in their sports because there's a lot of passion here in America about their sports and all that But to see it from a different side because I think they come at it differently than how we come at it, the singing, the dancing and the cheering and everything. And I just think it's one of the cool things to experience Again watching all the little thingsings that they do leading up to a match. We brought up what Japan does, what their fans do in the stands of cleaning up their All their trash don, it's just it's been fun. It's been fun. I've watched more of it than I've ever watched before And it's just a really cool thing that we get experienced every what four years there with the World Cup.
