As a host of this show and someone who's on the internet quite extensively with video content, it's been important to me over the years to start looking better and making sure my fashion's up to speed. and Quint has been a great partner in helping that They sent us a bunch of great clothes and I got to say One of my favorite pieces I've gotten this entire year just in general Is this incredible Denhim jacket that I love to rock and go denim on denim Cowboy Tuxedo. It's one hundred percent cotton and it's ridiculously comfortable. I can speak on behalf of Anthony who loves linen. I tell them all the time All you wear is linen. You're always on a vacation in Europe, even if you're in LA. and Quince is one hundred percent European linen pants and shirts are incredibly breathable. He loves them so much. He's literally wearing them right now on his amazing year old trip that he's been on And Quinn has so much to offer that two guys with totally different styles can find plenty of options for wardrobe and clothing Their tees are also soft enough to literally live in all day And somehow everything at Quince is literally fiftycent to eighty percent cheaper than similar brands They work directly with ethical factories and cut out the middlemments so you're paying for exceptional quality, not the brand markup Make your summer wardrobe easier. Mandalorian and Grogo is getting pulled from iMac screens Anthony and I got to talk to Steven Spielberg and discuss Disclosure Day, Primetime starring Rober Pence and dropp an awesome trailer Birds is getting remade for some reason and there's so much more to break down. in this packed episode. vie Ns. What's up, movie friends? Welcome back to Raiders of the Lost Podcast. We are the ultimate film and TV podcast and this is the weekly episode where we go through all of the industry news so you don't have to. There's some wild stories, incredible box office performances and some great reveals this week. But let's take it away with that very healthy, unbelievably impressive box office James talk about the new contender in the top ten. Backrooms stunned Hollywood stunned the entire industry with a mega opening, roughly about eighty five million dollars opening domestic weekend for a movie that cost tenen million dollars to produce. Yes Holy crap Global total, one hundred eighteen million dollars internationally for A twenty four is the biggest opening of all time. Its opening day alone was thirty eight point four million dollars on its domestic opening day. It's the fourth biggest opening of all time for a horror film, the second biggest opening opening day of twenty twenty six for any film And One of the top five biggest openings for horror in general. Caine Parsons at twenty years old is the youngest director of all time to have a number one film on its opening weekend. This is the craziest news in I think it just shows you that People want original movies For years, the last five years, I have the receipts. peopleeople are saying Hollywood is dead. Hollywood's over. moovies are dead. Theaters are going die L look what happens when you make original stories peopleeople who have organic audiences Horeors booming People want new things. peoplee want original stories. We don't want to see the same reboot over and over again. And if there's some reboots in this episode we'll talk about this the fact that it is already Just in this weekend, one of A twenty four's highest performing films just in three days shows that audiences are hungry for new stories even from eight twenty four. And the fact that like if you comparered it to maybe the last ten A twenty four releases Do they even stack up to this one? It is very impressive. So it was an obsession broke a hundred million dollars in the box office at this point and its second weekend it pulled twenty eight point five million dollars at the domestic box office And remember guys There's a Star Wars movie in theaters and it got beat Star Wars' second weekend got beat by two independent horror films. One was made for less than a million dollars And this is one of the reasons why Mendalor and Grogo is getting pulled from IMX Theaters early Masters of the Universe when that drops on june third is going to take over the screens which Mandalorian and Gerger were supposed to have going into June Because Mandalorian Grogu only pulled twenty five million dollars in its second weekend with an eighty one percent drop I mean, that shows that you know, you got two movies that gave audiences something new and then you have a movie that just gives audiences exactly what they've always gotten. that audience is telling you what they want. And it's it's kind of scary to see did Disney Have they killed Star Wars? They starars Is Star Wars dead? Ryan Gosling might sayve it. Star fighter, I think could. I think that's the only hope they have. That's why I think they're going with that film. but this is horrible Horrible news for Disney So in two weeks, Main Lar and Grogo was only grossed one hundred thirty seven million dollars domestic. At this pace, it might not even hit two hundred million. Backrooms almost matched. Yeah first four days of the box office with Mandalorian's domestic total. That's crazy. In B backrooms is absolutely going to outpace it because of the word of mouth, I think. I think ultimately you' wind up with a bigger domestic haul than Mandalorian and Grogu. I mean, we might have a similar obsession situation. Obsession, it almost doubled its opening weekend here. Wow And then still performing extremely well at the box office is Michael in its six weekend twelve point seven five million dollars, three hundred forty million domestic closing in on nine hundred million Gobal This is a fucking gigantic movie and It's got so much great word of mouth and second repeat viewings, people are going to a lot of theaters, especially in Europe are putting together the singing along and dance screening. So people are getting up and dancing. And this crazy videos of like entire theaters packed with people and then they run up to to the front of the screen and start dancing when Michael Jackson's dancing There's a scene there's a moment where U During one of the accidents when Michael's hair catches on fire at the Pepsi performance, people were like fanning his hair at the screen. So people having a lot of fun in theaters are making special screening events For viewers, which is unique my My girlfriends at a sing along one right now where people just get up and dance while the film's playing. That's something that is I think is really helping the longevity of this film. The breadwinner next up in the box office starring Nick Nicolas No, Nick Bargatzi, right? The comedian Oh I don't know who that is. Yeah. ah on. let me double check our Gatsi He's super funny. You'd recck Oh wait, this is about his like he's in a I've seen the trailer for this ye. One sec, one sec Nate Bargatzi, that's what it is. Yes. I saw super funny comed. He' hosted S NNL a few times His movie The Badwinner opened to seventy seven point five million opening weekend basically pretty good. What's cool about this is for one of the days of the week, they did very cheap ticket sales. I think they were charging five dollars per ticket because he wanted His comedy show, people be able to afford to go. It's expensive out there. They wanted families to be able to go and see these movies. So I thought that was really cool that they they lowered ticket prices for specific theaters for this film. Devilwars Prada five point eight million at the opening at this weekend box office in its seventh week pressure A new film from Focus features starring Bretan Fraser, Andrew Scott. prettyretty bad opening weekend. five point four million dollars opening domestic on a budget of about eighty million dollars. This is This is going to be a very costly film. You're to end up lighting a lot of money on fire Um, too bad. The movie looks fantastic. I want to go see it this week if I have time It's aorld War I drama And it's a really interesting story about the days leading up to the invasion of the Seaborne invasion of the Allied forces on the Beaches of Normandy and around France and how meteorology was a major component to the successful invasion which shaped and changed our world, but That is a very, very low performance for an eighty million dollars budget. I expect this to do really well on rentals because it seems the audience for this movie is the audience that doesn't go out to the theaters as much I don have anymore Yeah as ins by this weekend with these young viewers going to theaters. So this is I think definitely age demographic, forty five and up What's so interesting is for the last five years, we've been told by the industry and insiders that young people aren't going to theaters and that movies are going to die because this next generation they're so obsessed with TikTok and on YouTube. Meanwhile, you let these young kids make movies and who turns out the younger generation and the younger generation right now are more likely to go to the theater than anyone ever has before. And then like and then just looking back J justust a few months ago to Iron Lung made twenty million opening weekend, which is much more than a bunch of these movies made in their opening weekend. So that's it really is a sign for the times of the kinds of movies that will be made. Focus feeatures did both those films pressure and obsession. Where do you think they're going to lean in the future Definitely to obsession. They'll never make another movie like Pressure again. Probably not unless it's a great direct for eighty million dollars budget was I think they probably green led after Oppperenheimer and thought That's going to be, you know, this is what people want. Passenger also strong performer five point two point seven million do in the second week in the box office's pulled in fifteen point three domestic in just two weeks pretty solid for I think that costs about million dollars, six million dollars for a budget. Moral comombat to still is going to be in the red. It only pulled in two million dollars in its third weekend at the box office. Tuner, unfortunately for Black bear picks. open to a very low performance at one point six million at the domestic box office This movie is awesome. It's top five of the year for me, but no one really knows it exists unfortunately. and it's really terrific. Leo Wood all stars in it plays a piano tuner who eventually starts breaking into safes because of his great hearing, which is also a detriment to him, but unfortunately, very, very low opening weekend. Yeah, you' skipped sheep detectives doing well. sorry. It's up to almost sixty mill domestic, man. Nice. She detectives. Yeah, prettyretty good job. of talalking sheeps, that's all you needed. All right James, tell us about that beautiful poster behind us. Well, I mean, first of all, the Odysy's coming up pretty soon. I'm excited to tell you all about the world's number one expanding garden hose in their brand new product The pocket hose ballistic. I've got a front yard and a backyard and my backyard extends legitimately like forty feet. and a lot of hoses don't reach every nook and cranny. I got a bunch of jasmine along the side of the wall. I have flower beds going the entire distance as well as a bunch of trees And every hose I've ever used, it never really reaches, but pocket hose I think is the toughest hose ever built It's reinforced with the liquid Crystal poolymer and it stretches. It's the number one expandable hose in the entire world. It's super lightweight, easy to manage, easy to store, turn on the water and it grows, it extends. and when Turn off the water, it shrinks back down to a tiny pocket size. Plus the pocket pivot that it comes with gives you total freedom of movement at The spigots with three hundred sixty degree rotation, which is helpful for me because I gott to go down the tunnel in the side of my house. I gotta go up the extended part of the backyard. I got to reach stuff and spinning and turning that sppigot is very helpful. It's also enhanced with an upgraded UV coating so that the hose looks new year after year. I haven't seen any wear and tear on it at all I for four months now and it still looks brand new guys. And for a limited time, when you purchase a new pocket hose ballistic, you'll get a free three hundred sixty degree rotating pocket pivot and a free thumb drive nozzle. Cannot wait to share our experience in New York City with the greatest filmmaker of all time to be able to literally look him in the eye and ask him a question and talk to him Eperienced the film in a great theater. It was so fun guys. So stay tuned tomorrow for our spoiler free reaction and review of Disclosure Day. And my favorite trailer so far this week was Primeime. Yes, which I don't think anybody was expecting. They did a great drop and this is the new Robert Pattinson film where he's playing Chris Hanson The showrunner and star. What are you doing here? of how to catch a Predator And I forgot that this show was so popular that it was on a Primetime slot, which is hence the name in Primetime And this is Really interesting film all sorts of filming format styles and different kinds of camera formats that looks outstanding. and it looks like it showcases Hanson building the show, selling it and then it becoming so popular. and also Some kind of it has this really cool eerie Mysterious but very thrilling quality to it I love the filmmaking of it. It looks really fun and Chris Pattonon is Chris Hansen. I love his choices as an actor. Yeah, he always surprises you with his with what projects he chooses to do. and this is this is no this is amazing to see. If you didn't grow up in America or watch American TV, how to Catch a Predator was a huge, huge show. for years, you can watch it on YouTube. it's terrifyingly tragic in revealing. Chris Hansen and the team would set up child predators by creating fake chat accounts and getting these men to meet up with thirteen year old girl or a fifteen year old girl and they'd have cameras hidd inside the house outside the house. they'd be waiting outside with police. Chris H the guy would walk in with sometimes a six pack, sometimes with pizza had already sent explicit images to the girls who were really adults posing as girls or team of people pretending to chat. And it was crazy to watch and shocking And then Chris Hansenon would walk in the room randomly They say, Hey, what are you doing here And then he would Calmly and effectively break down this man. to the point where they would either succumb to the punishment or try to run away and they get caught. There was always police waiting outside. And what's interesting about it is watching the show, I was I want to a deep dive of it like last year, I was watching of so many episodes Um From the TV standpoint back then I'm rack broadcast TV. Cinematically, it wasn't very interesting. a lot of hidden cameras. A lot of DV tape, a lot of video tape for formats. so it didn't look as dramatic as it really probably was in person. but I think what the film looks like it's doing so well is capturing how serious and how dramatic it was to be in those moments with the visuals, with the tone and the drama because when you watch it from a TV perspective, it's like hidden cameras, simple cameras soed low production value. But I think if you were in person it would been so much more eerie and disturbing. And documentary filmmakers it's making it this guy named Oppenheimer And this I think is his first narrative film. Yeah. I think he had an Oscar n. Yeah, documentary a couple of years ago Yeah. Yeah Nice fucking looks great. What I'm very disappointed about is the birds is going to get remade. I love Sarah Snook. She's going to star in the film. But I mean, what are we doing? What's next? Are they going to remake rear Window? Are they going to remake Verttigo, which Downy's been trying to do? I do not like the news of the birds getting reimagined Again Look at this weekend guys Does it look like people want more remakes and IP milking Do it look does it look like that? alsoso Can the birds even really work in a contemporary setting Without I mean, sure, just, I mean, it's just a it's a movie monster, a giant Yeah, But will people even want to see something like that I think that, you know, there's something there, but it's a remake and it's IP milk and it's we're going to redo the whole thing because it's easy and blah, blah, blah, blah blah, you know, we also have Eil Dead Wrath that just wrapped filming, directed by Francis Galoopi. He did the last stop in Yuma County in theaters april seventh, twenty twenty eight, backack to back yearsars with Evil Dead films. And then Minecraft two dropped its first att Kearson Dunnt, Matt Burry and Jack Black in the new film, which hits theaters Next summer, july twenty third They're moving fast on that, what' what did you make a billion? T twoo billion or bill one point three billion? Something stupid. It made a ton of money. dude Whenever I'm out, I see kids wearing Minecraft shirts. Do you really? It's like I see it everywhere. I don't really see Minecraft stuff that often. Oh yeah. att the airport, I saw a bunch of kids wearingine. I saw a kid playing Minecraft and he had Minecraft t shirt on. it was like We were we were walking through the tunnel into the plane and the mom was just like this kid was just like, you know, mindlessly on his giant iPad and mindlessly on his Yeah because what happened was There was a crew member with an empty Um, wheelchair that they had helped a disabled person onto the plane. and and we were all on the right, but the kid was on the left. And the guy was approaching and I was like,y watch out ' like the mom didn't care. The kid was just like I didn't even realize I was just like as long as he's being quiet. I didn'tize there was a person approaching him 'causeuse it's just like, I was like Come on, guys, he's in dang. He's like gonna get hit by a wheelchair. Anyways, sheeezs Louise. it's her kid. It's not like. Let's Let's talk about the Odyssey S more. some really cool news Obviously, the marketing for this movie, I think is going to really start ramping up at the end of June, leading to its july seventeenth release So Universal Studios' Hollywood is featuring Christher Nolans's the Aussie in its Mga moovie summer event which will be happening in July a life sized Trojan Sip used in filming is getting added to the studio tour. I've actually seen it. You can see it from the parking lot structure. If you park at Universal, I think was like I was AT or Jurassic Park lot. like if you go up like six levels, you can see throughout the park and throughout the studio tour. I saw it one of the ships and I was I'm assuming they're adding to the tour because it's like right next to the Oar of the worldld's downed plane but it's like behind a bunch of walls secretly. Um, so actually I saw it from four hundred feet away But also thirty foot tall Trojan horse. from the film will be on display in Citywalk in front of the AC beginning July. Oh my go. How cool is that going be? That's great. And there's also there's so much space in that area So it's going to be like dud Tows of people be like it's a perfect place to put it. It's genius marketing. I was at I did an F one event at that theater like three or four weeks ago and they had three F one cars, three Ferraris.. It was really cool out front of the AMC Citywalk because' like you said, there's a ton of space, It's like a little plaza It' the center of Citywalk And to put a thirty four foot tall Trojan horse there. What the fuck It's gonna be insane. Are you? I'm so sick of all these these guys on YouTube they're making like like horrible speculation videos about the Odyssey and being completely wrong about the castings. Oh it's just that's just their. It's insane. It's I mean, hey You know, I'm not going to fault someone for making a buck, but that's outraged youel It's literally tabloids Th all theses of YouTube. Oh yeah, those accounts, you know, a lot of those YouTubers I'm sure y all know who we're talking about They're just outraged feed they know what works, they know the algorithm, they know people love outrage. And I think they purposefully talk so much shit and criticize films to get the views. they get a lot of views, so like they're going to keep doing. But they're not even right about what they're saying. Oh, and absolutely not. Like they're not mean, they're completely incorrect about the castings they're complaining about, things like that It's insane. It's just it's their hustle. Yeah. All they do is bitch about Disney stuff and people are addicted to it and they, oh, I'm going keep watching these videos. Like the thumbnails are just so outrageous too where it's like, all right guys. I saw the movie. You sawone who was like Elliot Page's face photosoped on Ailles like Brad Pitt' Achilles and it's like, that's not who they're playing. Yeah, but it's Click Bait Yeah. It's click Bait, It's outrage bait Those are the toxic accounts that I can't say it honestly because they're just fueling hate for views and money. They're m all's all they care about is money If I think if they actually had objective opinions, they'd probably like like life a little more And they they'd get way less views. Yeahactly. Yeah, exactly. We don't get their views because we're not insane. All right, terrifier The creator, Damian Leone is Sy has signed on to write and direct a new original horror film for Lions Gate called tortures of the damned Sam Ramy set to produce I love the title. Let's go. That's pretty hardcore. Probably it's gonna be insane I bet. Sounds like a horror movie from the eighties, man with that title Trtures of the damn. Let's go. Hopefully he makes a little more digestible though. A what easier to watch? A little more digestible for the average movie consumer so I can actually sit in the theater and watch it with You know, I maybe I can have some popcorn and now I think I'm gonna pee House of the Dragon Fal trailer drop for season three Gree, three Three drops in three weeks on HBO, Matt. does it? Oh my God June twenty first looks. I mean yeah it looks stellar. Ain't gonna to be no knight of the seeven Kingdomss I'm saying. Also new looks at the end of Oak Street, the new dinosaur film starr Annathaay Newan McGregor And this looks like a fun movie comes out later this in the late summer We finally are looking at a dinosaur chasing them. It's gonna be, I think this could be a really special movie. Just another way to save with the personal price plan. Prices are based on rating plans that vary by state. Coverage options are selected by the customer. Availability, amount of discounts and savings, and eligibility vary by state If the sc if the script's good, I think it'll be outstanding because like we always talk about Jurassic has such a grip on the Dino genre A mononopoly. They really do sixty five tryed to do it, but that story was just not there If they had a better story, I think that movie could have really pulled off something fun, but it just was a nothing burger at the end of day for me. But the end of Oak Street Really great filmmaker here at David Robert Mitchell from It Follows, writer director of that film I think it's really cool. You know, this family They discover their movies, their neighborhoods basically just been sent to a different time period to the prehistoric era, like the entire neighborhood's been cut and taken send back in time This is a fun concept for a movie because how do you do dinosaurs these days and you want to do you have to do a contemporary with humans most likely. So how do you bring Hans to dinosaurs instead bring dinosaurs to humans like Jurassics always done Bring humans there in a fun way, an interesting way And see what happens. like T Reax is chasing people in neighborhoods,'s so fun. S sounds great. I think it looks fantastic. Huge news in the gaming world. Doublezer seven first light. has already sold one point five million copies in its first hour twenty four hours of release. It is getting rave reviews from critics and fans People keep DMing us saying to get it to play because it's fantastic. It busy right now, but it does look like a lot of fun guys. and we're really talking about it because's James Bond game Yeah. I mean that's pretty that's pretty. If I had a console, Id might play it Okay pretty cool So we have some news on twenty eight years later Three third one, the third film. It's gonna to film next year now. It's officially getting greenlets Um Danny Boyle, the Oscar winning filmak chat about it he said to quote instead of filming it back to back that he literally ran out of time at the location, we ran out of time because it's at an area of Britain where you can only film at certain times of the year probablyably because of the weather We ran out of time this year, we literally ran out of time. He keeps saying you ran out of time. So it'll be hopefully fingers crossed next year. I think he ran out of time, but there's the enthusiasm there and Alex Glland has done a wonderful script for it. All right yeah, I hope just yeah, finish the trilogy. Let's go. Apparently though Dann Boyle ran out of time. I'm gettingid word you ran out of time. I was not expecting reading that quote for her to say five times. but they yeah, they shoot in a place that It's like the water rises too high or something with the island. I think that's what it is All right, we got an interesting trailer for in the hand of Don. What an interesting cast. Yeah. So starring Oscar Isaac Galgado, Jason Mo, Darry Butler, Appachino Jon Malkovich and Martin Scorsesee himself It follows contemporary and past storylines. It follows a modern scholar who steals a valuable manuscript The original writing of Dante uh defying the New York mafia And this guy has connection to the material And at the same time, it looks like Oscarazic will be playing Dante as he's writing story It's such a random mashup of cast. It makes it feel like it was the fantasy draft and And they're like, I can get that up. I can get Galgado. I'll fine. I'll take Pacino. like what? I was when Mamoa showed up I was like, what the fuck's going on? Gerard Butler with the blond hair I like the Gerard Cardter. looks Gerard iss always great. this cast Its weird. It's weird Mesh ye I did not see Galgadot Momoa and Oscar. see Martin's character design? Yeah, Martin's in a lot of movie right now. He looks like a wizard. He's got a giant white beard He's acting a lot Let's talk about Rambo the prequel movie. offfficial release date, june fourth, twenty twenty seven. so basically a year from A couple days from now Noah Centino, David Harbor and James Franco are starring this film directed by Jamari Helander who did Sisu You know it's gonna be a ton of action in that really cool action movie. All right, final bit of news, Florence Pugh has a
