OBSESSION with star COOPER TOMLINSON — Jun 23, 2026 — starts at 0:00
As a host of this show and someone who's on the internet quite extensively with video content, it's been important to me over the years to start looking better and making sure my fashion's up to speed. and Quince has been a great partner in helping that They sent us a bunch of great clothes and I got to say One of my favorite pieces I've gotten this entire year just in general Is this incredible Denim jacket that I love to rock and go denim on denim Cowboy Tuxedo. It's one hundred percent cotton and it's ridiculously comfortable. I can speak on behalf of Anthony who loves linen. I tell them all the time. All you wear is linen. You're always on a vacation in Europe, even if you're in LA. and Quintince is one hundred percent European linen pants and shirts are incredibly breathable. He loves them so much. He's literally wearing them right now on his amazing Eur old trip that he's been on And Quint has so much to offer that two guys with totally different styles can find plenty of options for wardrobe and clothing Their tees are also soft enough to literally live in all day And somehow everything at Quince is literally fifty to eighty percent cheaper than similar brands They work directly with ethical factories and cut out the middlemen so you're paying for exceptional quality, not the brand markup Make your summer wardrobe easier. Go to quince d. com slash riders for free shipping on your order and three hundred sixty five day returns. Now available in Canada too. That's Q U I N C E . com slash Riders for free shipping and three hundred and sixty five day returns. Qince d. com slash Raiders I didn't even know you guys had shot another movie before Obsession came out. Got lucky. Yeah. It's so cool that like we just made that one happen We never had much time with all these things on set. Like a lot of what you saw is like just a few takes, you know, everything. Are you guys gonna to keep doing sketches though as well? Yeah. Yeah. look, right now we're editing ghosts and just enjoying this moment.s There's a lot of things going on for him, for myself, for both of us. We love doing sketches And so we will get back to it you know, when the time is right, and I think that'll be soon. Now we start. we start. What are your top three Spielberg? Raiders of Lost Arc. I think it's generally one of the greatest movies ever made in all time. And then It's ET for me That' such a special film, the way it makes me feel is toally the climax. The last fifteen minutes, the chase when they escape with ET. John Williams, the drums bom, boom, boumom, boom. And then like nothing's made me feel the magic of cinema, like Elliot and ET flying across the so Ell Elliot. And then number three It's so tough to pick man. Jurastic Park I mean yeah, probably Jurastic Park. It's a safe pick but also I love like his deep tracks like catch me if you can. He's so good catch me if I can catch you canan is a the top three for me.. So I'm glad you said that. And then what else I'm a last crrusade guy. I mean, obviously, you love Riders right I'm like, what' your top three? And then I'd say dude, same and priv for Ryan. Yes. I love same P Ryan I need to rewatch that. It's one of the best war movies of all time. It is, I think the best war movie. I mean, are you thinking Apocalpse now I mean I don't know, man. How's up there. That's such a that one's still timeless to me. Yeah, same pr Ryan for you. M if you can L Cade. Last Crusade. Yeah. I mean, come on. Yeah. I mean, the Harrison was Sean Connerary It's like the' insane. It is the best, the end junior Yep, yeah, ye or Indiana. And they're like so similar. I love how they've both bedted that girl. it's soed her sleep. It's so funny, but Cooper Thank you for coming on the show. Obsession. the fuck. I know. Did you guys on set have any idea how special this film would be? Obviously you could never predict a juggernaut of about to break three hundred million in the box office heading to four hundred. under a million dollars. likeike we haven't se anything like this since like panormal activity and a return on investment, but just like the cultural impact This movie there's two movies that I' lived at Rent forre My headad this year, Project Taail Marrying Obsession still. Nice. Those are yeah, great great. I mean, another great movie to be baired with. Yeah, that should be the tagline. What the fuck What the fuck? But dude, it's been awesome. Yeah, I think on set It felt special. There was so much magic happening, you know, with each scene that we We were putting together and everybody we were like this little unit of like twenty five people and it was like this little family. And I think we just knew it was going to be a winner. But yeah, we didn't know it was going to be like this, but we just knew it it was awesome. Yeah, because I mean, when you look back at you guys, your older short films, even The chair and then the one what's the one that starts with W. What's it warnings Warnings, like that one watching that one a couple weeks ago You can see the inspiration where you guys were creatively heading in terms of like using the shadows and like the physical horror as well and like the psychological horror. Yeah. can tap you can see that as you guys were progressing as filmmakers heading to obsession.. Yeah, that was a fun one. like warnings we just did by ourselves. Like it was just me, Curry I think his brother helped us out with that one? I forget. And then our friend Hailey, who's in obsession, she plays the crystal shop late. Okay. the first one. Yeah ye. Yeah, that was a fun one. Yeah I think it's such a special film. and like I got the Evil Dead Porter behind you because I think there's like a very strong connection with obsession in terms of the cultural impact it's having right now. Evil deead wasn't a huge hit of the box office, but still pretty low budget horror filmmaking that has lasted for so long. Yeah, they got two movies coming out. Seriously, I know back to back. And I think Obsession is just going to have this crazy lasting power and It's so unique And I just love what you guys capture, especially filming locally Film get Sinni Packs in Burbank. Yeah. You talk about that L. we shot it in North Hollywood. Most of it, like we shot over at RSI's over in And then we shot and like Altedina for the party sequence, that house burned down. Dally during the fire. I like really sucks. That was a great, great house. And so you guys shot in twenty twenty four? We shot ended twenty twenty four November. and but yeah, we were like we shot at littleittle Tony's on, you know, Violin in Lancerson and Castle's music. we were the last place to shoot there.b Wayesworld. Yeah. and then Yeah. Thankks for wearing the too. I wore this. Yeah, you know, is what I wore in the movie. Like it's just been in my clothes. I'm like, I don't to bring it. I'm gonna wear it. And then yeah, you know, we were at like the roogue likeike tavern. We had a friend over there, like all these businesses and Cinapax, like our buddy Andy Chen, like really just helping us out like made this movie happen, you know, because they they They gave us the location for a fraction of a price. We went in did our thing and got He was a great guy. Yeah. Yeah. I a few times. The guy' the best. Yeah then I love how I didn't know after seeing the film because I always stickler for picking out B blue screen green screen with interior car shots. And I love, you know, if you can shoot it on streets, shoot it on streets as much as possible, but obviously cost money to get a trailer and budget. I haven't seen effective backdrop work for an interior car scene in sequences in years. was so good. And I think the crew just killed it, especially the smog or on the windows. I think that's what really sold it so much. Yeah seems like you guys worked your asses off to make it. That's all Taylor Clemens, Chris O and Bishher Barmada and countless other people who put that all together. I mean, yeah, it looks like it looks like we're actually driving. Yeah. you know, we u Yeah, it would have been nice to actually drive, you know, outside, but this just made it like it just made it easier and more special, like trying out these new things, you know, with the LED screens.. I think it's exciting for people to learn afterwards that you didn't have to go on the street. No, no, you don't have to. because you guys are really pioneering this huge boom right now. and the creator pipeline to filmmaking is just on fire right now. Like everyveryone's trying to scoop up Creators like Infinity Stones. It's like an arms race for creators right now But you guys really, I think are going to change Hollywood or probably already have in the last just month and a half. That's great. Yeah. that's I mean We just set out to make a good movie. That's it. Make good movies. Yeah. Well, I mean becauseuse I look at Topkun Maverick, which we were talking about before the show. Topkun saves Hollywood after COVID and lockdown. The best. saved Hollywood's ass and saved her from theaters maybe going out of business, the uncertainty everyone going and making streaming platforms that people they thought people would want. But now I think obsession and even like back rooms, these small budget horror films, small budget, independent creators, unique voices are saving Hollywood from itself in terms of the same thing over and over again. You guys beat Star Wars in Mastery of the Universe It's crazy Thiss fucking nuts. I know, I know. How's it feel It feels good. I'm just glad like the movie' connecting with so many people and everybody wants to just keep They want to keep going to see it, you know, Like I hear some people who haveve seen it ten times. That's insane. That's unreal. That's a lot of times, But I mean, it's that good. It still sticks with me, man. I saw it like a month and a half ago. Yeah. and it's still like I can still picture it perfectly in my mind. What's your favorite scene? Or is that too early toate I think my favorite shot, I mean, I think everyone's seen the movie by now Yeah But I would say Some of the most jarring moments for me, I think the duct tape door was such a jarring and shocking scare because it's not like a jump scare, but it kind of is at the same time. It's more a psychological jump becausecause you think oh, she's a little nuts and he just wants to go out And this is like when she stands there for such a long period of time too. Yeah yeah. Curry waits to cut to the door until he's walking to it, but you see the look on Michael's face before he opens the door and there's just like eighty seven rolls of ducta on the door. That was my favorite momentsie That was one of the moments that like where it was like we knew something was special like or like we had something special on set because we only we We didn't have a lot of time to shoot that and when we did our producers were on set, like the financers and everything like that. we wanted we really wanted to show him what we were doing, you know, like we're killing it over here. Everybody was on their A game, but we got this big duct tape shot and I'll never forget like there's a lot of timing with the shot. like he has to go up to it, open the door Nicki's saying some stuff off screen and like it's just, there's a lot of timing that goes into it. And slowly peling. Yeah, it's slowly peeling. and then it pops off That's the first take that we did. reallyally. Yeah. And I think we did one more for safety and but like we got it and it was just like there was applause. everyverybody was like, yeah, like it's such a little moment, but but like It's so cool. like like it we pulled it off and we never had That much time with all these things on set. like a lot of what you saw is like just a few takes, you know, everything. That bit, I think sets the tone of what you're about to see. because like obviously things are awry. thingsings are getting a little odd, a little scary. But that scene and that the duct tape and then her standing there all day, that's when you know like, what the fuck am I about to watch Be it's like the tension's building slowly It has that good start in the diner, which did you guys shoot the diner in the original version of the movie? or was that later on? Are you talking about the opening diner? openping diner scene. Opening diner scene, We did reshoot that. We shot that at Pink motel, you know where they shot honey Boy No. You know, the motel in Honey Boy with Shila Buff I mean, it's been while awince. There's been a lot of movies, I think that were shot there, but we shot at the diner next to that. Okay. that was a fun one. W was it the same scene? you just decided to do it somewhere else separately? No, It was a completely new scene Yeah. it was yeah. It was a kind of you guys are looking at the editing and we need something to open the movie differently. Yeah, that was kind of it. Like what how can we connect to this guy a little little closer in the opening and but other than that everything's il We did, you know what we did, we we shot a we shot the bar scene and it was great. Yeah. but there was some more flavor that Curry wanted to add to it. And so we reshot We went to the same bar. Okay with the Jangac scene. Yeah No the shots, the triv The shots the tririvia Night and we added some stuff with Bar and Sarah and It was it came together even better, but we shot that twice. So it was cool to be in there a second time kind of redoing some of the scene we already did and adding some new stuff. that just made it the friend group feel a little more What's the word? It just take work together, you know? I have to admit sometimes the workload of the podcast can get overwhelming with All the recording, the editing, we go to a lot of events, travel a lot and I get burnt out quite a bit. and I think that's where it's important to consider therapy and talking to somebody And finding a therapist, it's already hard enough, especially when the takes your insurance and that's where Rula comes into play because other therapy platforms fall short, but Rula doesn't. That's RuLa. com slash raters You deserve mental health care that works with you, not against your budget You guys had a bunch of friends in the movie, too, right? Because I saw I'm friends with Alex and Pablo Dys Yeah Yeahah. I was waiting to see them. I knew they were in the movie. And then when finally watched the movie I'm like there in the backround. So it's like getting all your friends. 'cause it just felt like such a small guorriilla filmmaking project, but with high quality. Exactly. It's like it's like, what? I three hundred million in the box office now, but it's like, it was so cool. It was very hands off. It was just like, Curry had his vision. againg, we just had like a crew of like twenty, twenty five and yeah, we'd have our friends. You see Alex and Pablo, It was nice having them on set. I know they're in the background, but like they really fill the space and like make that scene work and feel really unsettling and real. Also in that same scene, my girlfriend who I met on set, I was set up with. She's in that scene. All right She's always killing it b Nice to meet cute. Yeah, yeah, She's like right behind me. you'll see our casting director Skylar Zern. She's like You know, the one sitting behind Nickki on the couch, you know, like on the edge of the couch and But like Hailey Fitzgerald plays the Crystal Shop lady. She you know has recurred a lot of our sketches and short films over the years. Buddy Malcolomes on, you know, he's the bartender.ike there's just all these little those are like the Easter eggs, you know. It's cool to have everybody. Yeah they help I'm sure get you guys where you are in terms of making the doing favors for other projects. Yeah just like you're reaping the benefits of everyone working together. It's so collaborative. Now, obviously you guys are developing some more projects I canan't wait to see the ghosts movie. Oh yeah. I don't know how much you can say about anything about ghosts. Sure, not a lot. Can I say this beforees I will say, we did shoot on a process trailer in Ghosts. Okay. you'll actually see us driving So it's just a little was it had its challenges, but it was so cool. like I've seen I've been seeing some of the edit and it's like oh, this is so cool. L actually seeing us driving on the street. you. When didt you guys shoot that? We shot that U March. Copy. Yeah, March and then we finished up right before we came back for the premiere. It's sort of like u What's his name the Bagonian director You You areost 'cause he always like kind of secretly shoots movies that you don't know are in production. And I didn't even know you guys had shot another movie before Obsession came out. Got lucky.. It's so cool that we just made that one happen. How's cool, Aaron Paul? 'use I grew up watching Breaking Bad like Snowwatch M. Gosh, he's the best. L he's a leader on set ands just a cool dude You know, plays around. He's very funny in this. You're going love him. I love to see him going to movies because like he hasn't done too many films. El Camino, I think was awesome. Riously an extension of Breaking Bad. he's such a good talent, but I feel like he's like due for like a great role. Do you know what you need to see him in that is it's it's not a movie, but it should have been is the Black Miror episode on the sea It's like a movie. Yeah. It really is. like that should have been in theaters. like he kills in that him and Josh Hartnet like check that one. He's awesome because when he was Jesse on Breaking Bad, he was supposed to just be a couple episodes. I think they were going to kill him off or he disappeared but he was so good. The chemistry was so good Brian Craniston that they just keep kept writing him on and on and on. he's been in a couple of movies. No He yeah, central intntelligence Right. He's funny in' funny Yeah. but he's speed was cool, but like it didn't perform super well. they thought they were going to get a franchise off that But it just like didn't work out. Unfortunately the game was awesome, but like I thought he was a cool lead in that movie. He's great. Yeah. He's great in everything he does. So obviously taking the small budget approach with obsession, are you guys did you guys bring that to anything but Ghost you bring that to future projects as well that small crew kind of feel? Yeah, I mean, like things were bigger on that, but I think you have to you have to keep it scrappy And Keep to your roots, you know, like we we tried to We We like to run a gun and do like the things work best when you don't make it feel that big, you know, so we keep it as grounded as we can and it just works for us. There are some bigger things that we'd never There's bigger things that happen in this movie that like are way out of like, you can't do for nothing, you know, but u you know, we We adapted to that and made it work.s it's going to be really ool experience. onene is very different from anything else we've ever done. I'm sure is there at least date this year or next year if you guys announceced it or? We haven't announced yet now. but know, hopefully next year,'ll I mean, obsessions still cooking in theaters. I'm sure they just want to keep that going.. Yeah, let's look, I'm enjoying the moment right now. I know count too But yeah, I'm excited for everybody to see what we do with ghosts. How'd you guys meet and get started? Yeah, so I'm from Seattle and I moved here in twenty eighteen C' from am. People think we've known each other our whole lives. We haven't. We think that chemistry you guys have. Yeah, yeah. I mean we look, we met each other. we got paired into the same class at this at this film school, we were going into the acting program and Me and him just kind of bonded over You know, things like Walking Dead and Weeezer and Eouy. Oh fuck yeah. And we just like we had a synergy, you know, and and u We lived right across the street from each other, down the street from the school. and we wanted to make stuff. Yeah. We wanted to make comedy and horror and And that weekend, him and I just started making stuff like like we made a mockumentary comedy series that we ended up putting on our YouTube channel, you know, literally that weekend. So That was our film school outside of film school And we do that every couple of weeks because There's only so much you could do in school and that it was kind of holding us back because we had aspirations to do so much more. We, you know, we wanted to get out there more and So finally, at one point within the year, I was like, dude, let's drop out and move in together and figure this out on our own. And we you know took a leap of faith and did it. And you know, it worked out. Like it took a minute, you know, L this is like twenty nineteen, twenty twenty and then COVID happens. We're on our own. We're in the deep end We're making shorts, we're making sketches and writing scripts, whatever we can do. And Yeah, finally, bad idea comes along. We're like, look, we're talking about doing these We have these funny ideas all the time, like why don't we do it weekly and give people like show people what we could do on Instagram, TikTok. Well we were talking TikTok yet, but it was like, let's throw them online, give people an experience that, you know, like do something a little different with the camera, make make these sketches look good. L cinematic. Cinematic. You know like like we wanted to show we could do what K and Peel do or Tim Robinson And u Yeah, we started doing one video week, which eventually turned into two and three and then we, you know, we we went to vertical eventually and got on TikTok and that exposed us to views we never knew we could get ever. you know, we weren't ever trying to chase a trend or chase views. I'm sure if we chase some trends, we might even have triple the followers. But no, we wanted to We wanted to stay authentic to what we wanted to do and stay outside the box. Yeah, and u Yeah, and then, you know Now we're here. I respect the hell out of it. I mean, just just going out there and doing it. And like film school, like It's good, but also you don't need it A lot of f I mean, Chra only't go to film school. You'veve learn more on set than anything. You really do. And I remember, you know, Curry worked as I don't know if a lot of people know this, but Curry worked as a a COVID monitor slash PA. on this is U, the the later seasons of this is us and that's where that like to what you said, That's where he learned a lot about you know, the lighting and behind the camera stuff that he brought to Bad Ida and you know, he brought to his filmmaking And getet on set, you know? Exactly. That's always as like, how do you work in film just go Go make something or just go meet up with friends who are making a movie that you know. And also like Hollywood shifting so much with cinematic ability, capabilities of anyone. The accessibility of gear openen the floodgates.x The gatekeeping' over in terms of like high quality gear. Yeah. And you can use your iPhone if you want. You really can. You could. I think we have for I mean, they shoot proro Res if if you do the right settings, they shoot incredibly. Yeah, I think we've shot a couple things or a couple of our shorts, maybe on n phones or a couple shots, you know, But then and we did we did milk and cereal Yeah, you know, like and it's great to just get repetition as an actor or as a filmmaker, just to like Do a sketch, just make something, you know, like it it's really important. and u But yeah, yeah, like we were doing that. We were doing the sketches. We were doing milk and cereal at the same time we were like doing three sketches a week. It was I don't I actually don't know how we did that. That' That's pretty crazy. It's incredible. because I was actually when I was talking to Michael Titers yesterday, the Scremam Six director, we were talking aboutary movie. I mean, sorry, the scary movie S director. sorry it's a busyk. It it's a very busy It a. It's early. It's early. It may not look like it, but And we werere talking about horror and comedy how there's this fusion of creatives. and They're overlapping. You know you see a lot of comedy people doing horror and vice versa, horror and comedy and like something about those two genres tap into humanity more than anything else, I think. And I think that's for why there's this interesting pipeline of people who are comedians who do comedy that are entering the horror space and kind of doing both at the same time. Yeah. Be comedy's always been living in horror the last several years too, with the elevated comedy. horrors have been funnier than ever before. Yeah, it was so cool to see like obsession people reacting in I mean, so many laughs. I didn't expect like on the page like It was unsettling. Some of it was funny. I think Ian's my character was, you know, the comedic relief, but like felt like a nuanced comedic relief. Yes, yeah, completely. And then But then you go watch the movie with the crowd and like Even these scares are funny. It just It makes that communal experience even more fun. It's the I think I went like, oh my fucking God, like the reactions to watching like the cat stuff, everything, I was just like squirming in my seat, but it was such a fun experience all these crazy things happening. And like I think only comedy writers can come up with these crazy horror scenarios because they go hand in hand. Yeah, I've seen that and like get out and ye weapons, hundred percent. You know, I didn't see that. growing up It was just like You they're like you weren't having a laugh with the audience just was really quiet. Maybe it was the theater I was at, but it's such a different shift of Nowadays What's your favorite Wheezer album Oh, well, I think blue is like the go to, but can I say I really like White album. Sure, yeah. I just that one came out when I was in high school. I remember going to their their their tour when that came out. I love that. love that album. I think the blue album is like one of those rare albums you don't skip a song. You listen to it Oh yeah frronted back beginning to end. It's one of those like five CDs. you have like I used to have hundred percent CD's in my car and that was one of the five albums throw that thing on in the garage, baby. Oh my God. minute epic correct. Opening with my name is Jonas Wright. I think this's the first track I think you're right. Yeah. Yeahah. That's insane. That's their first album too.. Like that is Bangers. Absolutely insane. Just like reinventing Not Gunge, but like a new interpretation of Grunge, the lighter rockside. What a year? you had that came out in ' ninety four, pulp fiction was in nineties. Oh my God. I mean like Shhank. Did we peek in culture in the nineties, maybe nineties nineties, I think is the best era Music and well, yeah, it's tough to say because it's two thousands with the fantasy blockbusters. twow thousands are great, but I think the nineties just like so good. It does. Everything is like, come on. You know a lot of like I love the way obsession looked and a lot of movies have just been morphing into the same aesthetic. But you guys got your own aeset going on. I love that. especially playing with the shadows, the darkness. I think Michael told us that Whenever Nikki was in the shadows that on set she was perfectly lit and that was all done in post, right? Mostly And I say that is that bad thing No, it's not good. I don't remember I the Deat' all. I just remember on set. it looked Yeah, maybe some of it was done in post, but it just it always looked good. It It always looked freaky. It was very unsettling on set, but then also very fun. What's the obsession group chat like? just the five of you guys in one chat? Right now it's like we have One with like Curry and then like and Haley and then there's one with just the cast and we chat it up and we, you know, swap fun memes know the movie every once in a while. Yeah we had Michael and Megan on the show and they were so fun to talk to. Yeah. tryrying I want to get Iie. We we almost got Indy and What was it like work with her own set? because she is a force of nature and horror There's been a, I think a couple of performances for me the last like ten years that are just all timers. I think Tony Cleton Hreditary, Naomi Scott and smile to She's terrific and then Indy in obsession there just like insane and holy true. Like seriously and hopefully like this is maybe the year finally like the Academy and awward shows maybe start to give respect to horror. Dude, they they might, I mean, Her performance reminds me a lot of Kathy Bates in Misery. Yes. and yes if I'm cororrect me if I'm wrong, I'm sure Kathy Bates won. She did the Oscar for that, you know, and that's a horror movie. That's like it's a monster movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah. like I don't know. mayaybe it could happen. We'll see. But she's great. you know, we weren't in a lot of scenes together, but like I was on set every day and like I mean, my characters in scenes are like the party scene was so much fun to like watch her do that monologue and you know, have her next to us after the, you know, the the really awkward kiss and she like it's it was just like unsettling and watching her get into that u character, like like there was a lot of rehearsal before we started shooting and her you know, her and Cry working on just like just I don't know, being free and like trying new things like don she's very unpredictable and very professional. So impressive. It's just, I think all people can talk about right now. It's wild, notot just in the movie, but in these performances as well. I think it's really special. I think that this is the year that horror is finally going to make a mark of that award shows because the cultural impact is significant. Yeah. he like sinners and one hundred percent Yeah. And weapons, you know, like Michael B winning best lead. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. like these movies are like yeah, it's opening more doors, which is which is great. It's really exciting U Now, what's it been like shifting from sketches to now feature filmmaking. And also you were associate producer on obsession and but you're producing and co writing anything but ghosts, right? Yeah, and I'm playing one of the leads as well. It's me and Curry. So it's like a blend of You know, it's like the movie' like, if Keey and Peel walked into hereditary. it's a buddy comedy, you know about these two guys and it turns really scary. You know, it's about these con artists ghost hunters who encounter a real ghost And then they have to step up and be the thing that they promised these this family Is So Carry is the other lead. Yeah. All right, great. I want to see him act eventually in films, too. I mean in the theatrical fiem. Yeah, yeah. I mean, like what was your question? It was like is it going from shorts and to now the big screen in theaters? It all feels the same Like it is different. The levels different, but like Like what I mean by it feels the same like We're trying to tell stories and sketches, We're trying to tell even bigger stories on film. It's I try not to treat it. We try to just We try not to treat it as something bigger, you know, like something very special because you could ruin the magic, you know, like that's why we like to stay scrappy, stay, you know, keep keep running and gning. and stay grounded about about things. I love that. I had Dan Trachtenberg on the show year the prey in Predor Badlland's director budd's his first movie was Ten Cloverfield Lane, which is awesome, awesome film, really great low budget horror really like delivered with that movie. and I just loved the first Cub Field movie anyways. But yeah he had a similar answer where I was asking, you know, you go from he was like an original kind of podcaster and TV show host. likeike that's where he started like film podcasting in like mini web series and then starts filmmaking going from that to now making huge science fiction epics and a huge IP. And he's like it's the same thing. You know, I treat it obviously it's bigger, but you have the same problems, but you keep the same creative team And it's just everything's a little bigger, but at the end of the day, it's still just the same process of making a movie. Exactly. you know, doing obsession, it still felt like Same problems, same same solutions with like trying to do something like milk and cereal, you know, and u Yeah. Noa serial is fun I love I love Fount Furge movies. Yeah Wh did you guys shoot that? was that ihes or We shot that on a like some Sony camera camordarter. Curry, like, Yeahah it was camcord. Like Curry rented it or bought it for like eight hundred bucks. That was the eight hundred bucks. you know, and uh and we, uh Yeah, we just shot with that and then he sold it and got the money back. you know, So it's great. we shot on iPhones a little, you know, like there were a couple a couple moments where it was like we had to play with other things. It's fun, but you guys are definitely flexing the acting chops for sure in that. I feel like you probably learned a lot dramatic acting on that because you guys go through some serious shit in that film. Yeah, yeah. it's cool to I think what's different about Films actually versus something like that is like you're on a schedule, you know, things are a little bit more organized. There There's there's the big difference, you know, the on set. Exactly. that was like we were the like we we were we would shoot whenever. if we wanted to reshoot a shot or something, we would, you know, like we had that luxury., but but u Yeah, it's a little chaotic sometimes, but the planning and everything. Was the plan to always released on YouTube like the other films you were doing? No. No. we really wanted to try and find, you know, find it at home on like a Netflix or, you know, get it on a prime, whatever, and nobody wanted it. I don't know if that's changed, but like we did find there was one distributor who was like, hey, let's we You know, we'll take it and we'll put it, I don't know, put it up on Prime videoide for like two hundredllars ninety nineents or something. And we were like I don't know, this feels wrong. like I don't think people are going to who's going to click on this? You know, and like pay two doll ninety nineents It's just like and put it behind a paywall. L so we sat and thought about it and we're like, why don't we just fuck put on YouTube, you know, we put the chair on YouTube and it blew up. I think we might have put warnings on around then too. and it was like like our following was rising we were like, look, let's get in let's let's put it where people could just click and watch. And we did and it it It blew up. It like turned into what you got three million views. I think by now it's three million views, whichich is pretty crazy for a sixty two minute video. Yeah, it's not you know, like like I think the chair is at like ten million and that's twenty minutes. likeike who knows what that what it would be if it was shorter. But yeah, we're on day two of obsession and There's a variety article out that it's like said to be, oh, here's one of the best horror movies of the year. We were like number six. And it was like what That's no way, you know. So it was cool. It found its audience and people still watch it and love it. I'm always happy when somebody comes up's like, I love milk and cereal. It's cool. I think foundound footage is going to boom in a big way. Again obviously it boomed early two thousands but again, the accessibility technology, but also There's something about what I love about the young generation right now. They're going back to like high eight tech. They're going back to cam quarters. I was at a restaurant last week in Silver Lake. And I was with my buddy and then there was these two young young teenage girls with their mom and they have a little point and shoot cam camera. They're taking photos of each other instead of their iPhones. And I'm just like I love this, like going back to old technology because it's got this great aesthetic that's so timeless. and even found footage camcorder DV stuff, it's just it still looks timeless to me. I know. St shooting you're still shooting on tape Like I think that's why twenty eight days later still looks so terrific is they shot that on mini DV Yeah back in two thousand two And I don't know it's not even HD, but it looks awesome. Yeah, that movie is freaking crazy. Ths fucking bananas. Do you like the newer ones, Have you seen them? I love them, and I wish more people went and saw the Bone temple. Yeah. That' really cool. I love like they shot that on an iPhone. Yeah. twenty eight years later, the first one. Yeah. And I thought that was such an I don't know about you, but like I thought that was such an interesting way to shoot it I think they had like what like twenty iPhones. they did that for that rig. Yeah. that cool rig. And then but Bone Temple was like so different, but like I even thought Bone Temple was better. Yeah, they're They're so unique and different different directors. I hope more people find it on, you know, on streaming and stuff because it was like such a I'm a big, you know, walking dead zombie guy. Okay So what I loved about Bone Temple is, you know, I've seen so many zombie movies and zombie shows, but it's like this one had a new lore You know, that I'd never I'd never thought of before and like I was introduced to. and I thought it was so interesting seeing this I don't I don't know spoil what happens, but like it was so cool to see something different. Yeah. I love Ray Finnes in that movie the whole heavy metal sequence in the end that too. It's like it's like ass. someome of the most grues like the whole cult thing, The pool scene in the opening act That bleeding. Oh my I was I almost puga barn scene. Yep What was cool about this is it wasn't all just a zombie movie. it was just like a movie about humanity and like how it's like changed and like It is dark. Yeah, I always look at it, especially the last film, it's sort of like humans are devolving and the other ones are evolving into humanity. Yes, yes. So it's kind of like they're switching and it shows that humans are monstrous as well. And the other ones the infected, I call them zombies, some people call them just like, it's a c In is bies I like to say zombies, but do since you're a walking Dead fan though, do you prefer the slow walking zombies or the fast zombies I'll definitely take the slow walking zombies O the fast zbies for survival. I mean like like those zombies like ship I would shipit my pants if I saw that. like I fast I'm dead. I don't know what I do. honestly. like I could take the I can take the slow walking zombies. But from like a cinematic perspective, do you prefer watching the slower ones or the fastestes? because they're both equally different threads. I like the fast I like watching Uh, I like watching the fast ones. It's fun. is. Like Trend to Bus on when upash film Wld Rosie. Yeah those cool ones. I think they actually might make a sequel to World Rosie I think Paramount just announced it like a month. Yeah, yeah. I mean, hopefully. I'm dying because I love that first film. even though they reshot the whole second half of that movie. Did they The whole second half was reshot because they originally there's this whole storyline in Russia And Brad Pitt's wife, Maria Enos, who's awesome actor as well. She's has this love triangle with another character in the film who's very briefly in the version that was actually released. But there's a whole twenty five minute battle in Russia that brrad pit takes part in but they cut the whole thing because it wasn't working. So they halfway through the production after they wrapped actually, they said, we have to cut all this and they reshot the whole new ending of him waking up after after the plane crash. And then he wakes up in the hospital with those guys in the UK or Scotland or something. I haven't seen it since theaters. I'm ready for rewash. Yeah. And so yeah well, he wakes up that memory, he has to like go through the hospital to find the antidote. I remember that. So that was all new stuff that they reshot. And so that movie It made a ton of money. It made like five or six hundred million do, but it cost like an extra one hundred million dollars to shoot because they did so many so many extensive reshoots But it end up probably being a better movie, but I would love to see the battle that they shot a twenty five minute battle in Russia of zombies us humans Wh would have been crazy I got to see this. I know. But now I think they're finally they developed a sequel. I mean, Brad's still on fire. Yeah that guysy the made They. they I mean, they tried to back in twenty nineteen, but then they shelved it and now Paramount is confirmed that they are bringing it back. I love zombies men too. Let's fucking go. Did you see the trainer Boost on S sequel Peninsula? Yeah. No, I have not And then they're doing a train in New York. I think they're doing a train everywhere now, yeah. I think that's getting you on that train. It's gonna to be obsession two on a train, like coming soon Obsession to New York. But like h, also to go back to Scary movie And I love those movies and they always just spoof horror so well wouldould you feel like it's an honor if they do another one next year, which I'm sure they probably. It's a hundred million dollars film U number more in America right now, I think Would you be honored if they spooed obsession? Oh yeah, definitely. and I would hope They would have me and Curry and you know, maybe Indie Meghgan and Michael on in some capacity. Yeah That would be so much fun. I' very cool. Manest it right here. I am a scary movie. love I'd love to write a gag on there. Curry and I always wanted to do a scary movie, you know, or like a not another teen movie. Yeah know I love spoofs But it's interesting how sketches just have dominated social media. Like there aren't really many variety shows anymore. Like SNL still exists obviously But like K and Peel has been over for a while. Yeah Mad TV ended so long ago. It all lives on online now one hundred percent. And also comedies, some of the comedies in film It's just gone straight to streaming or just quality has just been so diluted. Yeah. It's just interesting. but ye social media is a huge impact on that I think. there's a there's a comedy out that I thought was pretty good. I hope more people see it's called the breread winner Oh, yeah, N Bgazi. Nayborgazi, like it was really good and like I was watching the theater with a few people like we were having we were having a laugh. I was like more people need to see comedies like this and theat like one hundred percent you know, like twenty one Jump Street and super bad, you know, like the hangover. L I I want to bring those back. It seems like it's coming back a little bit because the spoofps, I think are the first like big hits lately for comedies. Yeah Yeah. And then like Naked Gun last year, which was That was awesome Yeah I haven't laughed hard in theaters in a long time. Yeah. I was cracking the fuck up. It was so clever. And then when you see sccary movie six, you'll laugh your ass off too. Can't wait Because it's just horror horror has been consuming a lot of comedy in a great way, but also the action movies and like the Marvel movies Comedy's just been so infused trying to do the Robert Downey Jror. and every single script kind of thing. And I miss just original great ideas for comedies as well as horror, you know, Yeah. I think it's coming back though. I think so. and honestly Even though it's really scary, anything but ghosts it's very funny. and I think people are gonna really like it. I think it'll be ye, I don' say I don't want to say too much. Do you have a favorite sketch of you guys? Favorite sketch. I always love the negative tip sketch if you know that one. Anytime you guys are in a restaurant because you just capture like human interactions so well. I mean, that's how we come up with a lot of our like sketches is Being at a restaurant, like something happens, you know, or like Curry was telling me about his experience on the todayoday show. I'm like, we got to do a sketch around your todayod show experience, you know I guess going to keep doing sketches though as well? Yeah. ye. Look right now we're editing ghosts and just enjoying this moment. Theres There's a lot of things going on for him, for myself, for both of us, you know as a pair. but I mean, like, we started doing sketches because this is because we wanted to lead to this, right? And now we're finally here We like We love doing sketches. And so we will get back to it, you know, when the time is right. and I think that'll be soon. But we look, we just need some time to get the next movie ready because This is what the people of bad ideas you know, have been asking for Yeah for so long. I mean, we've been reading your comments and Look, guys, we've got it. So so stay tuned for anything but ghosts is what I'm saying. I love the when your friend doesn't like Dune skketch That The first one or the second one. The one in the desert when you wake up in the drip. That's the second one. And guess what? Dune Part three is coming out this year. And I'll tell you what. We will be doing a Dune Part three. I'm just gonna to say it right here right now. likeike we can't we need our own trilogy. But yeah, that's also one of my favorites. I mean, the Dune intervention, the first one was like I think like the first sketch we ever did. No shit. It was like the first one we actually did And, uh s that one blew up and then we did the sequel. So that's funny that sketch the Dune part two. That's the same desert that we shot Milk and cereal at the old man dies. Yeah the gunshot and everything. Yeah. so we just go back to our roots that's just our that's our filming location. We've shot the same place twice before too in the desert in Palmdale a few times. So ye heave, use what you know. I'll have to give you the I'll give you the coordinates. I You have to use coordinates. fuck. That's where ours is. We can go off road. We got Jeeps. Yeah ye ye Yeah. How's Duton Ranch going Yeah good. It's that's cool that you saw that. that was honestly Until anything that goes, like obsession, best time of my life.. Th I did Duton Ranch. I mean, Yellowstone is one of my top five favorite shows. So to get cast in that and work with Kelly Riley. She's amazing, dude. Yeah. What's she like? Be I love her so much in Pride and Prejudice, but also she's in so many detectives protective y. I love season two. I'm showing my girlfriend season one right now She wanted to watch it and we're going to get to season two, you know, Colin Farrell, Rach from Gdams, Taylor Kitch, like Great cast. Great cast. But like she she's great. We we uh We were on set that It was it was my first day. It was her first day and her first day back, you know, I believe, you know, as as Beth. And she was really nice. and then, you know, she d like we did the scene and shed dropped right into character and it was it was it was one of the most exhilarating moments of my acting career. Yeah sounds like such a pro. She got to Oh yeah. She's been so many different types of projects too. Yeah. I mean, malignant is her, right No No, who's an malignance? That's Annabell Wallace. Annabell Wallace from Pe Blinders. That's right. Yeahah, yeah They're both Irish, right? I think so.. I think's what it is but no, Kelly's fantastic. Yeah. So much fun. And I worked with Finn Little a lot on that, you know, for for little the brief time I'm on that show. Yeah. it was just cool. I just I love Western so much. For TV, it seems that's where it's living right now. Western's like, yeah, there's some cool modern Westerns Hell or Highwater, but that was that feels like it was like ten years ago. I knowew Hell or Highwater. But Taylor Sheridon's a great writer and he's kind of like the Western guy pioneering so many of these shows and movies I've recently watched Landman, which I thought was outstanding. right? Oh my fucking God, what is so funny to like doesn't hold back at all. and Billy Bob's a legend Yeah. But I love Westerns and I want more Westerns to come out theaters, but it's cool that it's getting so much success on TV right now. Yeah, yeah, I hope it keeps going. I just I love that world. it's so much fun Do you want to make Western films at some point? Yeah, yeah, definitely. Me and Curry have always kicked around like we should do like a comedy western too. T fun, you know So maybe that's in the cards down there. I know he'd want to direct Western. Would you want to do period piece or contemporary? I I think more of a period piece.'d be fun. Imagine yeah, yeah. I'm not gonna to say what. But like there's something. But yeah, what's It's like a Western I love ood the bad the ugly. It's classic.s classic. Absolutely I think. Giibvens is my number one I think. I love that. I think Clint's just I think he just officially retired like a couple of weeks ago. Dude like that I mean What a movie to go out with. Seriously. Juror number two. Dude, thank you. No one talk about how fucking awesome that movie end The ending shot. Somebody I just saw somebody put the ending shot. was like, what a shot to leave career on. God. Like like holy crap. Like that movie should have got more love. Seriously. One of my top five favorite movies of, I think it came out in twenty twenty four. I went and watched it while we were shooting an obsession. Oh shit. I saw it with my sister I was like It was Friday. I was like, we finished. I was like 're like, what are you doing?'m like I'ming number two this weekend. Yeah yeah likeike I'd seen in the it was when it was in the theaters for a short amount of time But dude, like that was sad to hear. I mean, like He's ninety two ninety. ninety five now, Oh my God. Like like the guy's badass. He's a dreamirect. If I could crack a one which will, I'd love to work with Clinn Eastwood. Yeah, I think that's why Nicole did it as well I think some people don't realize how many movies that guy's made directed. He's directed like forty movies. Yeah. And he's like the original triple threat of writing, directing and acting. I know. Big time Yeah. Like Ben, I think is the best right now at it Beniller Affleck Yeah in ts of writing directing and acting. And then like Bradley iss really great at it. Oh yeah. Yeah. Jy is this thing on. Fantastic. It's so different. No one I saw it is so good Yeah, it's it's like wholesome and and Bradley's really good it Will learn. That's really good.antastic in that movie Lord Dern. I'm I'm excited just because we're talking about triple threats, I'm excited for you to see Curry and in anything but ghost. I can't wait. ye. It's a very It's an insane movie like He's you guys are both such talented actors and then he but you're so different in terms of your performances and terms of like what your types are. But he like lean his he's so effective that this like awkward humor and you're kind of always you seem to be like the more surrogate audience humor. The straight man. Yeah, you yeah you're you're us. and Yeah he's doing some crazy shit a lot of sketches. And I think what's great about this upcoming movie is he does some different stuff. Like it's like he's going to show a different side of him his acting and and work and like it was a very like very challenging experience and it was so cool to see him like drop into it, you know, like We're in like doing a we're doing a four page warner and, you know, he's got it drect, but he's also in the scene. Like I'm excited for people to see that. I can't freaking wait. what cameras are you guys shooting on? Is it like a mix of is there found footage stuff going on? No we shot an A Alexa. There are a couple there's a I gotta shut the hell out. It's okay If we need to cut this we can cut on Okay.. I don't know. Yeahah. I think I think it's. We'll check back. Yeah. Yeah. talkalk to who you need to talk to. Yeah, we'll see It's talking about cameras, right? O anything Yeah yeah.ah, we'll cut it just. It was an Ry exode We shot on a camera. You know people were like, he's not even giving away anything, but think it's fine. I think it's fine. What's the biggest lesson you've learned so far the last several years and the success you guys have seen? Be patient U I think patience is key And u J just keep working hard, you know, just I think I've had like a goal, like I've always wanted to be an actor, be a working actor, write, you know, produce and just make movies. And I don't know, I woke up every day We woke up every day, like with that goal in mind and it's cool to be here. But yeah, it took some time, you know? And I think patience is key. It will come. it will come. like what is it? Tarantino says it, if you love it, like unlike anything else, like if you love it, there's nothing more you want to do than make a great movie. like you will. I so proud of you guys. I just met you, but I'm so proud. It's incredible. I mean, it's such an incredible story Let's do some quick ones for fun. Here we go. Do you have any what are your like your five favorite movies? My five favorite movies. My favorite movies My letter box five. Your Raiders's five. All right, All right. you I'll just yeah.idball it. Silver Lin's playbook. Fuck yeah, dude. Yeah, yeah. Brady Cooper. He's the man Dude. I've seen a Stars born like eight times al that movie. Like how do you do that? Like that's his like first movie? Its crazy. That was first movie. First direct I mean, like o. firstirst directorial directorial debut. also Matthew Labik is a cinematographer too and like they're such a good Great pair. Yeah. Social network. All right. Are you excited about social reckoning? O see the trailer? Oh yeah. holy shit. I mean, I love Jesse Eisenberg and I'm kind of glad I didn't come back. I think it's interesting to have someone else come pl Zuckerberg and Jeremy Strong looks terrific. Yeah. Yeah. And then I'll do No countountry for old men, fuck ye That's the Western the modern Like I was like thinking of Westerns like there we go. There That's what That best picture whatever. I love that for I'll go the departed Are we best friends? I think this is a great list. Thats pretty That's pretty close to his list. I mean, you say the departed, he's already on your side. I have a top one hundred. like Did you make that actually a list of a top hundred? I did. Yeah. And then five Five can switch around, you know, but like I'll say the great escape Oh fuck yeah, dude. Oh yeah. This guy's got great taste insead of a great taste. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh man, great escape. likeike I wish people Visit that movie, who've never heard it before. It's such an amazing film. Oh my gosh. I love in Once Upont T timee in Hollywood when they do the little gag with Leo Yeah and then Steve McQueen later I lost my mind when I for some reason, I was like, I hope they do something like that and they did. Yeah. I love that movie. think I think if there's any remake I'd love to see like ever be like a great escape point. I think you could do a remake of that for sure. Yeah. It's just tough because the casting of that movie is absurdly good. Like Charles Bronson in that film is fucking awesome. And like I learned recently that I mean, he was just like A specimen physically of just like a man that like had wrinkles since he was twenty. tan mustache, whatever, but just like brawly guy. But he grew up in Pennsylvania and a teenager, he was a coal miner. And then Great Escape it's kind of like he's perfect for that character like digging through the tunnels because like he actually did that as a teenager for years. It's just like Can you cast a movie as well as the Great Escape was cast today? I don't know. it's just think I think there's a lot of great like actors out there, you know, like like Josh O'Conn, Josh R Aadson. You see La Camera whichich one's that? Josh made it a year ago. It's an Italian movie. I haveave not. You should put that and you watch this ASA He plays a sorry to cut you off, but he plays British guy in Italy, he's fluent in Italian too, but he hunts for graves for treasure and graves sites and he has this sort of connection with the dead where him and some locals are he like sort of can just feel where these tombs are and these These graves are that haven't been discovered yet. And so he's kind of like a treasure hunter for grave sites. Ieresting. So, so good. It's excellent. Okay. I'll check that out. Yeah. He's one of my favorites now. I think he's one of the best young talents out there for sure. Doee you wake up dead manan? Oh fuck ye, dude. Yeah, he'sreatining that. Oh my gosh. I like knives out the first one a lot. I think that's just like honestly a masterpiece in my opinion. The second one was pretty good, but the third one outstanding. What's your favorite movie of all time? The Matrix Nice. Yes. Number one since I was like fifteen, probably. Yeah. I saw that. Another groundbreaking movie that kind of changed cinema. It really did. yeah. I mean, I think obsession is gonna change cinema too, Just saying. I think it already kind of already did. let's have a ten year anniversary podcast. Oh fuck. let's have a one year anniversary Let's have an every year movie a top one hundred podcasts. I a ghost podcast. We can do that. we will do anything with ghost podcast. That would be fun.
