So get out there and be surprised by scoots Thanks everybody. What do you say? We get on with the show Hey, are you up all night tossing, turning, mind racing, trouble getting to sleep, trouble staying asleep., welcome This is Sleep withith be the podcast that puts you to sleep with do with a bedtime story. All need to do is get in bed, turn out to light some press, playay. I'm do the rest what I'm going to attempt to do. is create a safe place where you could set aside whatever's keeping you awake. It could be thoughts,, thoughts on your mind. Thoughts about the past, the present, the future. Sos that are just appearing there It could be feelings Like anything coming up for you emotionally, like feelings from those thoughts are left over from the day or about something coming up It could be physical sensations, changes in time Temperature routine Maybe you're traveling, maybe your work schedule changed. Maybe you have guests Maybe you's in the middle of something really tough going through it gllad you're here. The only reason I run through some of the stuff or list some of the stuff that may or may not be impacting your sleep is so you get a sense of who else is listening And that you're in pretty good company. whether one of those things S it's feeling physical sensations, trouble getting sleep, trouble stay asleep, trouble waking up early. brought you here or something else did Not only do I want to help out in this unique way we make the show There's Thousands of people right now across the world rooting for you And I know some part of you, if you're anything like me might want to brush that off or say it's not real or that it doesn't matter There are caring people Thinking fondly of you And you're like, yeah, they don't know me though R, but they know what it's like a bedtime for them. Some of them have been through something probably pretty similar to whatever it is that did bring you here And everyone wants something a little bit better for you. If it's possible and that's not to put any pressure on this because this shows indirect and may not even work for you But The thing we all agree on is I laugh at this, which is just true. It's like, well prefer bedtime to not be what it's like Ben. I don't know is that a complete sentence? like what it' have been like my whole life? And u prefer something a little bit different. ideally something that's easier and that's what I believe. That's what drives me to keep making this show. is that I do believe you deserve a good night's sleep. A bedtime donon't have to dread time without rigam roll Maybe even a bedtime you could look forward to or at least feel neutral about or know that somebody is trying to bring sleepy joy and delight your bedtime and I may not get there, right? But it's the actor trying to get there And, uh The fact that this is there's this indirect caring going on And that that where the sk commommunity gathered together, but spread apart And most of us may maybe prefer it that way. say, okay, at a distance As Bet Middler may or may not have saying or may may or may not have meant say, Oh, boy am I comfortable at a distance from Community at a distance. It's an introvert's dream But it is true that there's other people rooting for you right now And they got to the show at some point in their life And then they tried it out and took it a couple times probably to use this show and said, manan, I didn't know. There was something out there like this that could help me in this strange way the show helps by just hanging out with me not trying to put me to sleep being here for me And now they're doing that for you and it's a two way thing. You could root for other listeners right now. or down the road But that fills you up a little bit too. You can receive and give or you could just receive right now But it could feel good and and it could feel as subtly good as you want, right They say and not right now. I'm holding my one of my fuzzy bears and I say, okay, that's pretty sweet too So that's why I make the show Because if you get the rest you need, On a regular basis, your life's going to be more manageable And ideally You can be out there in the world flourishing. And if you're in the world flourishing whichich means you're in the world being yourself and comfortable being yourself. That means our world is truly a better place to be in becausecause we need you in it And u is m is I get to be subtle distant part of that magic It means a lot to me. Now the way the show show so that's like The foundation of the podcast and the earth beneath the podcast But the way the show works is a little bit more silly and goofy. I set my voice across the deep dark night. They use ling soothing creaky dulcit tones Which means my voice is not traditionally soothing And you say, okay, it's not traditionally soothing. He goes off topic. he gets mixed up He forgets what he's talking about. he tries like I may I don't want to brag But I guess this is kind of a brag I don't think anyone I can almost guarantee No one on planet Earth Okay, I'll even brag a little bit more It's and it is something to be proud of only because I do it in a playful way is Miss quoted Bet Middler songs than me. I mean, if there's a world record or mis meaning We're mixing up a c song we like when I went to school And part of the belief system as raised in we sang a song and gets that I mean, they definitely hold a record for that. Uh, and eagle's wings is not a I'm not even positive in this moment. I see, we just said a bit Midler song For the song we sing as kids 's a song that we' s saying as kids Now I may not have always made that error on the podcast, but within my mind, I'm pretty sure. I mean, it'd be great if somebody else has the record, that'd be cool too because I'd be like, wow Just like with this podcast, it's like I'm not alone someomebody else is constantly misquoting Bat Middler But I just, you know it's not a skill. I guess it's not a skill. If you do something over and over again though, I guess it becomes a skill U don't think it's the kind of thing that anyone would say, Did you ever know you're my hero? Like And he said, what about me is heroic? I mean, go ahead, tellell me more. Let's see Oh, you're misquoting a Bet middler I'm one of her I her rebellious nephew. So No I mean, I don't I don't necessarily do it to annoy B Middler because she doesn't, I mean I don't know. I mean, she may every once in a while be out doing acts of kindness. And then she's like, wait a second. kind of like in, you know, Star Wars or something. It's like there's some sort of disturbance. I forgot that I also invented an app that was never actually invented This is probably ten years ago This is a pointless meander by the way. I didn't even mean to stumble into it, but An Ath G midler It was way back in our Game of Drones episodes It was for it was another positive it was a positive outlet l app I don't know many many of the details because I also misquoted my own podcast, so it's not exclusively by Middler But I was just thinking if things worthy of world records Misquoting your own podcast. That's very niche, you know where Like most people know who Bat Midler is and are familiar And they maybe even a few people chuckled when they said Did you ever know you're Maho? No Well I don't know if I want to be the hero of Bet Middler's rebellious nephew No fence because it's u Maybe you're misreading my Oh, you're just kidding. Oh, you're not been Mindler's rebellious nephew. Oh, was a test. Okay. well, I guess I passed then. Well, I guess that I mean this is okay, another Now I don't know if this is a world record But am I the only person who has an internal Nphew of Bat Middler, who's a little bit mischievous and rebellious but also who probably needs some love and caring, which is kind of what I'm here to provide indirectly So yeah, my voice is not traditionally soothing. There is a bit of nonsense in this show But it's friendly banter. a harmless banter, maybe a little bit with a flavor of rebellious nephew. But All done in love or just maybe I mean, I have love in my heart, but Also my brain just produces meanders and I try to follow them and see where they go And right now I'm trying to get out of that one to explain You know, when you first get to this show, if this is your first time, your second time listening This show is very I mean, obviously if especially with this this is a pretty close to a normal intro But you must be like, what is going on here And that's a normal reaction In fact, most people's reaction is a little bit stronger than that. I don't think I like this show. I thought this was a sleep podcast. What am I even listening to And why wouldn't you be skeptical or doubtful? Like one, if you're anything like me and all the other listeners You spend a lot of time energy and money. and stuff to help you fall asleep or anything or you just so that's one reason. whyy wouldn't you be skeptical, doubtful or frustrated And then two Like you probably when you saw a sleep podcast or however you discovered the show, you probably have some reasonable expectation of what a sleep podcast would be And maybe it's based on the archetypal idea of a calming voice or a bedtime story for children or something a little bit more meditative And this show is very different than that So that's why I say give it a few tries this is not a brag because it's But I've probably gotten over a million emails over the past thirteen years Maybe that's not mathematically possible, but it might be But like I've gotten a lot of emails. People said it He It took two or three tries for me to get use to show. Now I listen every night. You've changed my life But the first time I strongly disliked you in the show, But I said, hey, I haven't been sleeping, so let me give it another try Then then the second time I said, huh What is going on here And then on a third try I fell sleep and maybe I dreamed of a flying b middler, you know, taking me away and singing to me or maybe something else and I don't know. I woke up I had no idea what he was talking about. If you live here, you'd say Midler A there's a street called Midler A. It's spelled I believe it's spelled differently, but You see, he was talking about Middler A? No, I don't know what he was talking about, but u that could be a nickname for anybody. I mean, this is a total what do you call it when you're a play play not playcating, but when you're Let's just renate what if we nickname Broadway, Midler A What that called when you're trying to police somebody? without like a I forgot it's not placating, but it's some other word exactly like that That's what I was just doing there. But it's true. Maybe you'd say, interesting proposal. Um Okay, so most people don't like to show when they get here So given aut try I see it goes Now if it doesn't work out or You're already certain You don't like me or I'm not your cup of tea or we're not a fid. It's totally okay Most people don't like me or the show And this is good news because I've done this so long. I have a website set up. So you don't have to worry about it. Just go to sleepingmepodcast d. com slash no thank you. And you answer like two or three questions to get you to the right place and'll bring you to a list of sleep podcasts and other sleepy stuff So you could still find something that might help you the rest you need and you deserve because I still believe You should get some rest that you deserve a good night's sleep Check that out. But otherwise, if you try see how it goes, one of the other things that takes some getting used to is that this is a podcast right? Traditionally podcasts are something you listen to and you pay attention to or maybe learn from or you're swept away in audio fiction or, you know, you're following a story U or you're hanging out, you know, like with people like, you know, aspirationally like, Ohh wow, you get to hang out and peopleople are really funny and they're insightful or Oh they're talking about something a show or a book or something I love too Oh, this is great. This is not like so this is a podcast, but it's a podcast you could just barely listen to kind of like a background noise, a TV on in the other room, a show streaming under your pillow or some other form of audio or audio video that you've repurposeed. You're like, well, that's kind like that kind is like the professor. or the conference or my friend. So I kind of listen to that This is meant to be a evocative of that But intentionally, I'm here to hang out with you versus Just like if you had a friend that was available seven nights a week, you say, Hey, could you talk to me about nothing for a while? Sure, I mean, but make sure there's something there. donon't talk to me about just nothing. It needed to be engaging enough. I could pay attention to it, but I don't need to pay attention to it But I won't be listening to you, but I might listen to you. But I'm not paying attention, but I could pay attention if I want to Do you understand Now you'd need a friend like u I'm maybe Somebody like Jeff Labowski might fit that but cool, man I mean, the only thing with Jeff Lebowski, that's a fictional character from a film is that he may fall asleep or He may not stayate to task But his spirit would be like yes, he'd say, Oh I'll give it a try seven nights a week man I got you orr yeah, I mean, I guess They I could have been I could have my path was carrying me in a more of I don't think I would have stopped like two or three white Russians, but so for me I would have nodded off But yeah, so I'm here to hang out with you, I guess, but it's kind of like yeah, out of focus pictures sand passing through your hands. So that takes some getting used to There's also the fact that this is a sleep podcast. I'm not here to put you to sleep. There is no pressure to fall asleep with this show I'm going to be here over an hour right around an hour So there's no pressure fall sleep. don't got to be like what is what if the show ends in ten minutes? So do I gott to be sleep in twenty minutes There's this shows over an hour There's six hundred plus shows ready to go for you. As you start to listen, then you can pick the ones that work best for you and make playlists or whatever you like to do in your podcast app. But pressure to fall asleep. becausecause there's people listening who can't sleep at all who need a break during the day who need a break in the middle of the night who needs something to listen to at work, whatever it is I'm here to the very end them and for you whether you're awake or asleep, whether you're listening or not, I'll be here Becauseuse my jobs to be your boyfriend, your bore bay Y' Bor Bowski. I never thought about that one. I'member you're u I don't know, Big Borbowski. I don't know, that doesn't quite work, but it it kind of has alliteration Big Borbowski. Your boy friend, your bor bet Y bore sib, your' bore bud, your neighbor, your borebie, yourre boran I' Boris Borloff, your chairman of the boards Hopefully I'll remember that one, but probably be be like so I record this episode February. comes out in May maybe So then If you remind me of May Th yen Fall of I'll try to remember it though. Big Bore Bowski Um anyway, where were we Yeah, I'm here to be your best boyfriend for. just keep you company and take your mind up so so you could fall asleep The other thing I like to run through really quick at the beginning of the show for new listeners, even though it's not the beginning of the show, right? We're twenty five minutes in is the structure of the show and why we structure the show in the way we do The main reason we do it is this version of the podcast, if you're listening So listener and add supported free version of the show benefits the most amount of people we've ever seen because it's available to everybody and people like to structure, but there are other ways to listen that I'll run through But we everything like works in support of that. M amount of people that can benefit from this show So show starts off with a greeting. friendriends be on the binary ladies, gentlemen boys and girls. so everybody feels seen and welcomed in. and you say, o, okay, I could check that out And I guess even initially you might get an idea of the tone and people might be like, o, that's already not for me. Okay. like you're still welcome here to check it out Then there's support so that paying for the show iss optional becausecause a lot of people only listen while they're going through something or they check out the show for a little while while they needed And or they're just, you know, like so Th those people get to benefit from the show versus when the people that benefit the most from it support it back, I guess So that's what the support is about is making sure the show iss here for everybody then and if you decide you just don't like ads or something, you could get that for reasonable price on Sleep and Me pllus orr if you love the show Like it's changed her life. Otherwise, don't worry about it. thenen After the sport is a long meandering intro. meant to ease you into bedtime Well, I follow a familiar structure every time I also go off topic in a slightly different way everyvery time Though there are familiar themes that come up or distractions, but I always try to What always is a fresh take on it because my mind can only retain so much So then yeah, I'm here And you say, well, why What do you mean to ease you into bedime? Why can't you just introduce the podcast or why don't you run one of those like regular intros, you know, like a show does and then just start the story. questestion really. I believe that for most people gettingting eased into bedtime and winding down is important because that's what worked for me works for me now sixty, seventy percent of the time. I've seen I've read a lot about sleep over the years and that's what seems to work is having a nice bedtime routine you could look forward to And so this show ideally becomes a part of that. And the intro is a part of it. whether you're in bed getting comfortable gettinget ready for bed You're winding down You're doing some chill activity and you're listening to the show. If you fall asleep during the intro, U It's not so much meant to butch you to sleep, but you could If you fall asleep to the intro overnight, please consider supporting the show But if you falsely prefer you don't like the intro or the transitions. We have a version of the show that just s the stories And that is like a much smaller group of people that worked for. But if that's what works for you, just the stories that's great But what I found is that yeah, this kind of works. It's a it's a community part of the show. It's kind of like a Sleepover or something like that where we all gather together And we're reassured we're not alone in the deep dark night And that we're going through this together Really? you like and that's the truth and that there is some positive force by just rooting for one another in the deep dark night thinking You're not alone out there. I'm here too U that's powerful, powerful. But lightly powerful. That's the kind of power that's perfect for bedtime, light kind power So yeah, that's why but yeah the introros Yeah buffer between being awakeen asleep then there'll be another round of support And then'll be our episodically modular bedtime story of our second episode. But you can listen to them in any order. These ones are particularly episodically modular And yeah all told, I'll be here over an hour Myself and a team of people work on the show. We really believe We yearn and strive We really want to help you fall asleep. So thank you so much for coming by And if this podcast has changed your life and continues to change your life for the better And you feel like you're a rebel for paying you say, man, this bag has changed my life so much I'm going to rebel and pay for it. I'm going to rebel and support Bushia's sponsors Th These are ways you could do that. Thanks Hey everybody, this is Scoots and I want to talk to a very specific group of listeners tonight Maybe you listening the show longer than a year, two years, three years, maybe even five years. And over that time you've been listening to the show Things have been financially tight, right? Well, Olive recently signed up to support the show and told me, yeah, I relied on the free podcast for years when I couldn't afford to support the show. But then Olive's financial situation changed and Olive was excited to support the podcast back when she could to keep the show a going to pay it forward, to pay it back. however you want to consider it. And Katie also sent an email about how isolating insomnia can feel, right? in the deep dark and night just lying there. A lot of us have been there and it's just you in the deep dark night That's what it was like for me, particularly as a kid alone in my room, even though Somebody else was in the room, even though I was in a housefulull of people, I felt alone. And that comfort is what made Katie support the show. And then Caleb said, had no idea my seven dollars a month could make such a huge difference in the podcast and knowing that and hearing that is what made me sign up to support the podcast. So if the podcast has got you through tough times financially or you've been able to flourish financially because of the support of the podcast And you're in a place where seven dollars a month, sixty dollars a year, or even one hundred and twenty, two hundred and forty dollars a year. You get that much value out of the podcast you'd pay for it if it was a product in a store or some giant corporation was selling sleep with me for two hundred twenty dollars a year. Thank you so much Everybody, this is Scoots here and this is a Another episode of our episodically modular series that at the time of this recording still doesn't have a title. by the time it comes out it will I mean, the episodes kind of have titles or potential titles, but the series what I would title it, I don't know if it'll work, but maybe I'll ask the maybe it ends up the title works I'll ask everybody on Sleep and Me pllus first, I guess. It's a great idea What do you think of this title? so of the series? So this is a very episodically modular series. If you're new to the show Welcome. This is a One of the original things we've done since the very beginning of the podcast that we've refined over the years and we try to change things up a little bit. This is a new series And episodic and modular means you can listen to it in any order. That's the modular part. Episodic means Ideally every episode is somewhat to ninety to eighty to fifty to ninety nine percent self contained. or has a beginning middle and end, you could sleep through though they do tend to have a season that's related though as of now, this is one of our most if not our well a couple of holiday series we've done have been like this where it's very, very episodic And it's based on some archaeypal stuff, popular stuff over the past thirty years. So You can listen to it basasically, I'm trying to think what I need to do to set it up eisodically modular part. So this is the second episode of recording, but you can listen to it in any order It features a main character who is in the same very similar business to to what I'm in very loosely based on scooter. or influenced by Scooter or maybe somebody that got their idea from this podcast and started their own business through it. or got involved. So they're a bed time the main character is a bedtime storyteller And they work at a chain of hotels called the hotel and then the location of the hotel. and the hotels tend to be It's upscale. It's a pretty up it sounds like it's pretty upscale new like refurbished buildings or repurposed buildings ideally with iconic architecture, maybe older buildings If so far hasn't taken place in the US. but if it was in the US, it would usually be in like the second or third biggest or fourth biggest city in a state not the biggest city U maybe not even the second biggest city. U it was like u Just it just just is part of it's just part of it. And every every this doesn't this is not part of the this is part of the setup and not part of the series Each of the hotels not only is a place for people to stay and enjoy themselves but they do offer a lot of extra services to their clientele And in a vague way, the hotel. Each hotel has a hotel detective who normally would say, Oh, I left my shoes in my room I can't find my reading glasses Normally they would help the guests with that, but this person, they go by Sundry supervisor And uh, L they n they also serve some greater purpose and these hotels serve some greater purpose That's mysterious. We don't really know a lot about it and we don't really need to know too much about it other than instead of just telling bedtime stories, The main characters also somewhat it involved in this this greater purpose, which is normally solving a mystery That would be what like it just like Miss Miss Marple or Lady Marple would do solving or, you know, Angel one of the great Angel Lansbury characters um or you know, anyone else is like they would normally be the ones actively solving a scooter in anybody like based on me or influenced by me probably better off in more of a What is the word I'm looking for? Jacent role They're not the main person solving mystery And they may not even be the main side kick of the maistry salver, but they say he, could you do could you keep like they're basically gathering clues. So telling a bedtime story. in this case, it's personalized because it's a very upscale hotel invited clientele or some of the people that get to stay there And so they have a staff bedtime story also collects clues for some greater purpose But you know who serves the g you know who's like puts like u purpose and greater and the greater in purpose He's like he's the he's greater than the somem of the part He is the somem of the part. I wish my the some of my parts added up to him Be holy cow. He's our Hollywood announcer comes all the way to central New York just to record this audio because he loves the listeners. He loves people so much. He loves helping out so much. He comes on renewable restored renewable energy Yeah by means I wish there was a way to like have a maglev train He's laughing at that, but I said be convenient for him because he's a busy guy And you know, we work we do work now I'm a little bit more flexible since some further away. Though I don't know if he has really a home base. I mean, he's one of those people he's at home everywhere U wherever he is there wherever he are there he is and that's in in his case, that's like a triple reassurance Also, you're assured to have some audio Like when he's around because his gravitas his gravitas like his gravitas is audible It's not like grinding. What is to me because I got to make sure we get clean audio because I make a sleep podcast and I say, huh There's some sort of sound coming off you again And he's like, are you going to scan me with your microphone? I say, Yeahah, no I don't need, I mean If my microphone had an air, I just want to figure out where this I said is it those sh Wh shined your shoes like Magneto or something because there's something coming off of there And he just shrugs, I shine my shoes Okay, well were you playing some sort of character with super powers when you did it or super well yeah, you don't have to play a character with super charisma But I say, okay, could you thank you for removing your shoes. Could you remove your shoes I don't have any kind of soundproof room. for your shoes or for you to stay in. But so glad youre these are the kind of luxury problems I have though. So, you know, I mean, I just want to, you know, I just like to inform the listeners that You know, it's not all gravitiz I'm dealing with There is some work behind the scenes to try to say, huh he I guess he's more than the sum of his parts even experts have constantly messaged me on his behalf It's not possible for there to be audible shoes shoes can't make an ambient sounds when they're not moved Okay, your opinion, I guess There is no there is no gravitas is not a tangible Okay. It's not a tangible Well, I guess we'll agree to disagree like Oh, it's not tangibly audible. Okay. Well, I guess we'll agree to dis I mean, You know, I can accept that you believe that is a, you know, expert and, you know, an audiologist. Okaykay professional Yeah, I mean, I'm just telling you my experience. recording a sleep podcast in his presence And that like, you know, that I can hear it. I mean, it's just my job. Y job maybe to point out The things you're making me aware the things you're aware of. I' I'm just trying to make Antonio aware that he is the greatest Hollywood announcer From the Greater Los Angeles area, our Hollywood announced ser And a man I'm happy that I'm going to play a game with later U because I got a couple new options Mister Tonio Bandres. U All the audio audio I'll just just pull the scooter there It's all the odd audiologists out there Hm The scooter studon is best U friendriends be in the buying area. So ladies and gentlemen, the B boys, girl time G to The hotel Sleepy Yeah Thanks Antonio. That won't be the name of the st just to be clear. That was sure that was a very good flourish. And thank you for not saying the word. I say, well, you know, could because said a good word, but he shrugged again. Yeah, he's going to lie down now and attempt to not move or make a sound even though he's smiling, which makes I think he's causing a sound within me But that's Mr. An Joner Banderis. and this is our new series that takes place at the hotel. Well, hello everyone. Thank you. I'm u I'm your narrator and u We're going to pick up the story. actually right in the suundry suupervisor's office, but I did want to give you a little bit of information of where where we are and and those kind of things. So we are in Belgium This hotel is known as Scooter had said If you if you were in Albany, New York, would be the hotel Albany. This hotel is the hotel Job Note balmb. which is kind of two locations or the name of the chateau that was remade into the hotel And if we pull into the hotel and then pull past It's a beautiful chateau used in in other u in other productions very filmic for time unoccupied, but now pied I guess calm placeace And at a distance intriguing, you'd say, I'd like to go there and see what's inside. But when you first go in, you expect to enter a home, but now you enter upscale hotel lobby. You're not modern though. and behind the old schoolish hotel check in desk with the little nooks for keys or notes or letters There's a doorway. And in that door through that doorway is a hallway and down that hallway or a series of offices and at the end of the hall Isidor, labeled Sundry's supervisor. which at this point we know is code for they're also the sleepy storytellers supervisor And as we enter the office The suundry supervisor does seem a little bit exasperated And we catch them just beginning or in starting a conversation. Okay, I'm sorry Wh you can't check into the hotel under a name that you haven't registered under And you know, we've been discussing this. So like can't you just check in and the same name every single time or Does the name youe check in? even matter Yeah, it does it matters to me. It does. Yeah. than you. It does matter to me. Okay, but you can't Malise is not a name like it's even confusing, it's just confusing in The whole thing is to not bring attention to yourself at this juncture But Mise is not a's not even a nickname Malaysise Malise is actually what like it actually is like I use it as a name. at Renaissance festivals And when I'm referring to my chips, my potato crisps Yeah But that's it's a word it's either a word or nonsense word. I'm sorry. I just it's it really isn't I mean, It is you, but it's not you And I realize your method is to bring it, you know or it seems like your method is to do this attention seeking Okay, I guess Be could Okaykay let me just refocus So let's just go over what we need your help with. Okaykay because and I guess maybe this is where I may I apologize. How about that Apology is accepted Okay, you don't need me to explain my apology. I know I mean, I'm I'll take it. I'll take it any apology I can Okay, well, u I'm just under a lot of because this particular mission is very important And we cannot have you Um How do I put this Putting any undue concern in the client or anyone else's purview This is about is there's also an immediacy and there is some sort of person I do have been working with someone. there is a personal connection But we need clues, okay Well do you mind me asking what the personal connection is? Is it to the client? No. u It's Asian IR agent I are like infrared No, not infrared. That's not on the table I'm sorry, Ag and I I've never heard of the agent I've never heard of agent IR. agent I are like is that like a nonsense word? likeike kind of reminds me of the game Starcraft They don't say I are, but reporting for duty. I could say that to you like a I do get your Starcraft references. So that's I guess a common ground. I did play I do like Starcraft too. You like Starcraft too, or you too like Starcraft I chew probably spent way too much time playing Starcraft at one point in my life agent IR. you don't know about I thought you were hoping to become an agent at some point Yeah, yeah, know, but u Like with a nickname. I just didn't know there Well and now you almost have me saying infrared, irridium, agent irridium seventy seven one ninety two point twenty two ridium. Okay, so agent iridium or agent sixty seven seven one ninety two two Okay, agent iridium I are So not did you say sevenenty seven one ninety two twenty two? See? I can remember things Okay, never mind those donon't worry about the numbers So case is a very, very warm case in A iridium. was on this case. So the client has been under observation by agent Iiridium She has not had she As far as we know, she hasn't been in direct contact to client I mean, I would love do like what elements are open on the pe on the table? It'll be a while for you. So I wouldnt I guess if you could focus on this case, it' be your best bet Okay, so the client so Eent iridium has been in touch with the client? No, has not been in touch The client's name The client likes to go by Ronnie And that's a I Ronnie. Thankk you. I saw your face was going to ask that And u Ronnie. Um has it's a this is in this this is why If I got to give you all this information, I'm just a little bit hesitant. I've just heard about working with you. so I'm I'm trying to be in the moment and use my training So u Iridiom has been watching Ronnie and M or may not have had like secondary contact Ronnie is the first person we know of that has been contacted from from over there W Ronie's been contacted from over there? Is he when he was over there or when he was over here Yeah Yeah, Ronnie has been contacted We don't have any knowledge of Ronnie being over there But we do haveave a general sense well we don't know because u We've lost touch with agent irridium But in her last few reports, she confir she had a full confirmation Ronnie was in contact with someone from over there fairly certain she was attempting to get a full confirmation or hard proof And, uh I mean, so we don't have one hundred percent confirmation. Do you know what or who or whom Uh no. and we don't know why or what the Well we don't yeah, we don't have a lot of information because u Well, where iss agent iridium We don't know that either I mean, it does our job iss not to ask why But there's a lot of whys I'm asking like we why like why now Why would they contact this Ronnie who is your client. So we'll just go through some of that info Ronie's getting real ready to relocate to this area professionally I'll let Ronnie kind of fill you in or as part of your process of what business they're in. why they're here though I will tell you Riley noticed there's a big festival going on and Ronnie's going to be performing as part of that festival tomorrow night And that is a part of why they're having trouble. He's having trouble sleeping But I suspect that this contact is also part of it. He does not seem to know that he is in contact. That as another part of the The reports are very vague and I can't share them with you But I mean, he could really use sleep tonight before the show tomorrow And he is wait we did have an appointment set. So he's going to be waiting for you in the lobby. take you through some of the festival that's happening on the street tonight that starts in a little bit So luckily you are timely But what we cannot have any we don't know what happened with Asian iridium or why they've gone silent And we cannot have Ronnie doesn't seem to understand anything about this getting the sense that, uh there's anything going on or if they are in contact, we can have them knowing that you know. All while I've I worked with Asentirridium in another location. All this was taking place somewhere else. So there's no reason to think Uh, that, uh, likeike you should be fine. Okay, well, is there any way I could get like agent Iiridium's file or some information about agent Iirridium or even if it's just You know, I realize I don't have like high level approval of any of this stuff You know, like lot you say your trust only goes so far But if you could get that to me at some point or put in my room, that wouldd be helpful. What brought Ronnie to your attention. Okay, ye, I don't want to spoil it too much, but u He's in a sense, he's a he's a former he's a musician and u It was this music that he's going to be performing tomorrow that brought our attention music was flagged as Now from from the that it contained elements and made it clear it was not It was just from from the other side The others side' never heard it called that Well, Um, We're not sure it's from from over there But it's not from here Okay Um Okay I want to ask any moreore. So his music bro does he play? You'll find out more And yeah, I get you some basics about agent iridium But why don't you head out and go meet Ronnie? Well, okay, ye I just need do you have anything else for me what do you mean Yeah like like something for me to use in the field if I if I should need it Oh yeah, right in my desk here. I have o, you me a gadget. Of course I do. It's this which this looks like kind of kind of a used globe light Well It's a small globe light. Yeah, it's like a flashlight. Does it have a is this b is a batter No, no, it's fully charged. You can see it's doesn't it has a built in battery. You could charge it in a room No, it's like a dim Gob blighter. doesnn't get any brighter than this part of the oh yeah, it's it's exactly. It's part of the part of why we gave it to you, it's special that doesn't have a full power like a normal light would. Otherwise it wouldn't be a special gadget for you Okay, does it have the ability like record video or audio or like check a room Not that I know of, it just lights up or char, you know, recharges Okay, does it u like it does it make any sounds like I like or if I roll it does it like make a, you know, noise or can I use it offensively or defensively you could I mean, I guess you couldn' really shine it at anybody because it's not bright enough, but You it's for creative use It's for you know, I don't always know these things to be honest. Also it was here was here my desk and you needed to gadge it and that they must know, you know, the you know, I'm not the main suit, you know, there's supervisors. I'm only Sundry supervisor Come on. I know that's just you know, like that's just a term Well, I have a someone brighter than me, but this doll late in for you So just taken is also fits in your pocket though it does make a little bit of a bulge Yeah, that's fine. I mean, I can it's good to play with I like that it's round. Well it's flat on one side so that you can put it on your nightstand or whatever. Wait a second. it's magnetic Oh well yeah. o yeah, it's Magnetic. I forgot to mention that. So that way. If you need a dull light somewhere Wait this switch it's this is like a night light Right. It's like and it's like it's like a night light. you're right I have one of these. It's just not a dome It's u Like I have one that's like this with magnet and then Yeah it's motion sensitive Right, right, right. Those are all levels of the gadget that I, you know, maybe it was not for my eyes only The gadget may have other secret may I don't know How come we don't have like a g like a full time gadget person? Do the periodic agents get that? D deffinitely, but Anyway, your appointments waiting for you And with that Mal headed out to meet U Ronnie in the beautiful lobby u like the lobby waiting area with a, you know, bar and adjacent restaurant And u und supervisor actually took Hi, this is mister Malay' Ronnie, do you still are you comfortable with me call instead of Baxter or whver Yeah, Ronnie's fine. Ronnie's fine. thank you. Okay, Ronnie this is your this is Malays' mis Malays' u I don't know our bedtime storyteller who's here to work with you. Thank you for taking Malays out Uh, like, uh And I'll see you too later Hey Ronnie, nice to meet you Nice, is your name really Malise No, no, it's kind of like my u pseudonym when I'm working as a bedtime storyteller helps Well I don't see how the name Malise is going to help me sleep Oh, well, it's more of like a joke. I don't know if you share this like like when I when he used to go to Rnaaissance festivals And I'd see the queen and Malady. I'd say Malays Maladies so they do like and then I always never came up. but I was always hoping someone would take my lays chips And I'd say those are med So that's funny. So that's your nickname Well no. I just want I've always like I like when I'm since I work for the hotel I don't have to present ID when I check in. so I could just make up a name. They don't necessarily like that to be honest, they were that was my supervisor not happy about it. That'ss schoolool. that's c schoolool man I like it. Well, great, Ronnie. excited to work together. I don't have a lot of information. I know There's some sort of festival you're here for and you have a show tomorrow And I'll just tell you a quick about my method of working with people You know the hotels covering all the costs of this. againgain, is a goodwill part of I guess this festival and they just like to do it for I don't know, the hotel kind of finds This is a justest your goodwill You get paid to come tell people bedtime stories. Oh yeah, yeah, I do. I do. believe or not it's a rare thing. L I have a rare method So I do like to find out as much as I can about you and K kind of like almost like inter I'm not going interview to put you to put you to sleep kind of get to know you and to kind of create a custom bedtime story for you Um And that's all everything is part of the method though. just remember Like I'm always working. so Well, it might seem like So even the boise part was you working Well, it's kind of like I don't know, have you ever done anything and you felt like you were doing it and it like it seems like if you're into music and stuff like that likeike everything kind of becomes Yeah, no. I mean, I'm more into I get what you're saying So I understand, but u We've got to get outside because There's a the the street festival starting Oh yeah. I know you're you're pretty excited about it. So what's happening out there Well, it's this is a u U Well, there's like a this is like basic this is a big deal out there and I I guess in the U.S. they'd call like Oregon grind. So all outside you're going to see And in all the the pubs and restaurants on this main strip, It's a bit of a walk from here. So it's good. I can explain to things There's going to be mechanical music performers kind of like buskers Do under do you know what mechanical music is You' like player piano or organind organ grinders, stuff like that Yeah, and this is this area is home to to u the V bags and they kind of u it u This is a really hot bed of new Canical music, but this festival Do you know what like Edinburgh of Frenchfest is? Yeah, yeah. I mean, I haven't been, but I've been to French Fest before. Yeah. So this is like a mechanical Music French fest Really Yeah, it's kind of cool. Like that's why I'm here why I wanted to move here I mean, because this is such a a spot for mechanical music I mean, there's spots in the U. S too, but I don't know. this is one where the artistry is celebrated and both the the performance side and the art of The machinery side too Wow, so you really love this, huh Yeah, I do And yeah, like yeah, I do. I I've like got into it I mean, I was always curious about it and then like I got into it in Like during twenty twenty repairing stuff and buying stuff and then fixing it up and and it's just so cool because You could breathe these things can always be restored Yeahes, so these are the u I'll kind of talk while we listen to the music and you can see the different I don't want to spoil it for you. Like I guess you could look at the machines and listen And then we could walk back and just not talk or separate or something and enjoy the music But yeah, I got into it basically as like u from the fixing it up and refurbishing and You could even add electronics into to the stuff or you could refurbish your traditionally rebuild bing a new life into these machines that can make music. Wow. And so you're doing a show tomorrow too like of but you're a performer Well, I mean, performers interest I mean, the machinees doing the playing But yeah, started kind of working on my own music And just it's a bit different and I haven't really performed before in a well in a long time So you have performed your own mechanical music before No, no, no. long, long time ago, I was in a band Oh wow, like what kind of music Well, u it was kind of like a Par Do you know anything like about parody music like like you mean like the beyond doror Dmento? Yeah. Yeah, like that kind of music Okay. you know, I know exactly what you're tal likeike Yeahah, we're kind of the same generation. So Yeahes. so I was in a band And u It was supposed to be like a Parity music But we ended up like I don't know. I'm a little bit embarrassed about it because people ended up taking it seriously Well What do you mean like taking it seriously Mm. We started as parody music, but it's kind of I mean, it's nothing like a You know like when people take TV characters seriously, even though they're meant to be like like like they say o, I agree with that person they say well they're not they're not like They're supposed to be like a satire of someone I think so could you I'm sorry, like could just tell me more about so was the band like what happened It's really interesting and this might help with the bedtime story. Okay. so we were in a band like I was Ronnie. Um And we're in a band and might even heard of one of our songs L, so we did rewrote we made parody versions of some popular songs. Okay, look what's one song. Well you know the Jo Joan Jet song Yeah, I know that Joan Jets. Well, I mean, I know which one I love wait a second You made I'm on time for school You're in the Reags Yeah, yeah. ye, yeah. Yeah. Oh man, I know that's sew by heart. I'm on time for school Don't want to be tardy, baby I'm on time for school. I don't want to be t ty Um told my mom Yeah, love that song man. It was like This is a classic Yeah. so I was in that band, me and my sisters Oh ye had. so you are used used Oh, so people thought that ye know, we played at the u We're guests of the White House. Oh yeah, I just remember the song. And you have a couple other songs too. Yeah, but I don't want to talk about it really D you have that song about Canada made to Van Helens's Panama, right Canada Canada. Yeah, remember that one Yeah And then the California we had to cover California raisins And then the DARE song Okay. so it wasn't your intention Yeah, because I guess I didn't realize it was parody or satyire. I kind of thought you were like Super vanilla something you know what I'm saying Yeah, that's what most people thought. So They thought were actual fans of it. So yeah, we performed at the White House for the actual President the First Lady. And uh Yeah Well so sounds like it didn't work out. you were really successful for a while though I mean, somewhat But I just decided like what one of my sister So is me and my sisters Like u one of my sisters she she u she's she kept to her like I sold her my part of the band. u in the rights She still kind of performs at fairs and stuff like that. with the two other band members Okay. u Wait, wereeren't your parents like famous musicians? Oh wa yeah Yeah. they were. U yeah, my parents were famous they Yeahah. Wait, so your parents were like, they basically were like Pioneers early punk, right Yeah Yeah And um U so I'm getting a sense here, Ronnie Yeah, I mean, we did we kind of made the whole banned because u We thought it the whole idea of the band was kind of the rebel against my parents because they had There So let me just tell you a positive thing about my parents. I mean, they were able to give us For a time everything we wanted because they' incredibly successful and Now they be considered multi hyphenates. you know, they were writing books and making indie films But when before that, you know, when we were little, they they that's why I got drawn. I real I didn't realize until I was fixing this piano during the twenty twenty and then that yeah, one of my favorite memories as a kid was we had a player piano and my parents were getting ready to use these mechanical instruments and one of their tours And we would sit around the piano and sing together and it was kind of fun and hilarious.' one of my most treasured memories Okay But I get it. You don't want to talk talk about the cinem but this was kind of a way for the whole Reagan thing, the Reaganss, the band was to rebel against your parents Yeah as a joke but it ended up parents I mean, my parents had kind of grown out of parenting at that point anyway And then they kind of saw it as like a They saw this real rebellion, not joke rebellion I mean, it's Bunk to like do that to Bunks, hh I mean No, it didn't work out. And, uh Oh yeah, and then your parents They Yeah, they u my parents got it like u They moved away from they well they put out a concept album about Yeah Um being coming to visit E so and then they said it wasn't a concept album. It was they're kind of founding their own culture and belief system And, uh And a lot of people got into that And they kind of became a figurehead and then they like We were left with a little bit of money mee and my sisters, but mostly my parents put everything into this foundation. Oh, didn't they call it the foundoundation Foundation even though it Yeahah, they did It was a that was that was a joke. I mean it wasn't a joke, but it was And, uh Wasn't a romor where your parents were like they had like like that they went off worldu That's what they wanted people to believe or whatever. I guess or they did Yeah, but they didn't actually go off worldld, did they I don't know. I mean, I haven't talked to them since they they all moved out to the countryside and then that all that hat, you know, that was like a But I you know, I'm going is it okay if we just don't do a bedtime story tonight I just walk. I'm going to walk through the festival alone and why don't you walk through it alone? Oh I'm, you know, yeah, I'm sorry, Rodnie. I didn't mean to u Just just trying to get to know you a little bit better to get the stories, but it seems like this is The softs about a hit But that kind of happens with bedtime stories. I mean I think you should walk back alone But it's kind of like sometimes it's like removing pebbles out of your shoe G O if you had pebbles in your bed, right? I'd be the one kind of clearing them out So is there anything I could do U to help you with your show tomorrow. like can I help somehow? Yeah, you could help me. Yeah I mean it's okay. Yeah, just you just brought up a lot of memories, you know. Yeah, no. I mean I get it u But yeah, how can I help tomorrow Could you ride over? I have to go get everything for the show. like the maybe performing on this Sabg U anyway, this Katie special But u If you could help me like load things up like come with me I like I've got a workshop. I moved everything over here Yeah, I could do that And so the two characters separated and walked through the streets and listened It's a variety of mechanical music making things from handheld to large spilling out of doorways People standing enjoying playing old songs and new songs It's a warm summer evening and kind of magical ors runon and Malays who were a bit distracted So they both turned into bed early though, Ronnie ent most of the night kind of reviewing and ing. or we don't know because we weren't there. But the next morning there was a vehicle waiting for them and then as they headed out they were talking Wait, so you got a So this is a soap works and an Abby or is it an abbbey or there's so this is nuns who live Can you tell me about this again Yeah, so it's kind of like you've heard of like trappist ails and stuff like that and and so this is similar. They make soap And it's kind of a modern group of I mean in like this is it looks like an old Abby. It somewhat new and yeah, there's nuns, but they actually overbuilt So it is a soap works and they have a shop. they also started subleting places So yeah, my office,,ah, we'll just go near my workshop, I guess Yet everything shipped over here Well, how didd you hear about it? Like how did you get in with the nuns to Yo like I got like one of the nuns reached out to me and had heard U she was a fan. She said and she actually got transferred before I even got here, but She was a fan of my original the original group and then she heard about my interests And she offered it. She she had been running the place. It's funny. Yeah, come on in like So this is my office. W it smells like. Soap in here. Yes, so below us or not just the soap works, but there's like a soap spa U where you can kind of do these like soap soaks u And uh Yeah It's pretty cool. Like, o can we can I go down? No, you can't go down there And I mean not right now, but at some point you could book a package or something or I could ask them. But yees, so we got a look. So okay. so so can we focus because I'm thinking about my show now Oh, sure, Ronnie, yeah, sure So we got to get wait a second Ronnie is that that's a is that a VCR? CRT TV Yeah, yeah, that's my that's my that's Ohh well you you fix up VCRs and old TV's too. Yeah, yeah, but just don't touch any those these are like a These are the old VHS like tapes you like Oh no, please don And there's some on this tape. It's like Oh Yeahah, please just can just please leave that stuff alone? Sure, sure. Oh man, it's likes like anyway, yeah, got on my hands though, but u I get it. So so okay, so were you have Okaykay, so these rollles here. They have to go to the show, right? So you're going to take all these roles and just carry them to the van. So there's blue rolls. And there's get, don't worry about it's all callor coordinated Let me just put some one in. Okay. so it's ready. go ahead W, this is a cool what you should live here like instead of Yeah, I mean I'm not allowed to stay it's not for Like it's just for a workshop., you know, my other stuff's Okay, so yeah, let me bring this stuff down how do which How do I find my way back to the van? Are you coming? Well, I'm going to still pack up more But you okay. so basically there's a really easy way to do it. back of every door, you know, in case you have to find your way out There's a map And, uh It's all pictures, you know, for people for for every language, is's just pictures So you could see on my door here, see this is the map. This is this floor And we're on the ground floor. soap floors are below us So you're just gonna to follow that you're going to foile the blue. and, uh You're gonna to go out the blue door Okay, okay. so that's easy. So what's that Malise went out and brought the rolls out to the vehicle waited a while for Ronnie then tried to sneak back in waiting for Ronnie thought about going down to the basement but could hear talking and stuff. then went back up and then peeaked in the warehouse and saw Ronnie kind of sitting on the couch watching something and you could hear some murmuring Like he was watching like an interview or something on the SraT TV And then he knocked like he hadn't been watching and said Ronnie, Ronnie, like his voice And then Ry said, Okaykay, I'm coming, I'm coming stop the interview or whatever Ronnie was watching and head it out and they headed out to the show and the show was advent eventful but not sleepy because It was just a couple things that happened of note.
