Id just go vroom Uhh. I just punched that gas pedal. I go vroom. Yeah, Didy Kong racing. It's way better than Mario Kp What's up everyone, and welcome to Last Week in Star Wars. I'm Alex. I'm Molly. And this week we're gonna talk about the Galactic Racer preview that came out. Echoes of the Empire issue three. The difference between a rogue like and a rogue like. Whatever happened to the Aolytes of the Beyond. And we're going to discuss what characters and creatures we think would do well in the World Cup. But first let's dive into lastast weeend News The main thing to talk about is the details about Star Wars Galactic Racer that came out. Some hands on articles and videos went out. so I watched IGNs and I was really excited by what was shown there. Me too. L it looks really good and so far the feedback, it's mostly been more of the major gaming outlets and A lot of the feedback that I've seen so far is really good. So I've never played any of the burnout games. I haven't played a ton of racing games. I well I haven't played a ton of realistic racing games. I love Mario Kart. Listen, I've already talked about my Priority for Cruise in USA. You love Cruise in USA, Diddy Kong racing as well. Yeah, Diddy Kong racing way better than Mario Kart. So I knew that going into this that Galactic Racer was going to lean more towards episode one racer, which also was a great game. I loved it played it recently on the Switch again, the remake or remaster. Hearing details about this got me so Especially hearing that it's got some rogue light elements to it. I don't know what that means. Yeah, I didn't up until fairly recently. So are you saying rogue like or rogue light? 'cause I don't know what either of those mean. I don't have a full handle on it, but I believe there was a game called Rogue where you kind of like are escaping a dungeon or something and you would die and go back But you'd get stronger each run and eventually you would escape. And so any game that is like that, they call it a rogue like. That feels like cheating. You get stronger every time you die. Yeah But it's like Hades where you unlock new abilities I haven't played Haiti. Well, you know that. Rogue light is based on that idea, but not exactly like that. Okay. So I have seen people calling Galactic racer, Rogue light because you will be racing through a campaign. But if you lose the race or crash and die then you have to go back and start the campaign again But you're stronger. Yes. But you're going to get to keep all of the engine stuff that you unlock. Yeah have all the upgrades So do you get better or you're just, you have all your stuff still Well, both. I mean, you should in theory get better at the game it's more about you've unlocked a bunch of new abilities that you can use again on this new run. Okay, I think I get that. I just go vroom. U huh. I just punch that gas pedal. I'll go vroom I don't know what rogue means. Popracer goes driving. Oh we should get one of those steering wheel pluggins or the console or the computer I always wanted one as a kid. I got one of those Hotas controllers for squadrons, used it once or twice and it was like, this is too much. It's different. We use a steering wheel in real life. It's true I would hope that you'd be a little more comfortable with that. I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm pilot. I'm flying I'm Pilot. Anyway, hearing that there are rogueel light elements to Galactic Gacer has me very excited because I have gotten more and more into that style of game ever since playing Hades one. Yeah, the UI looks amazing. It looks really clean and crisp and nice and a lot of people have been saying that it looks Ver, very similar to the original pod Racer in sixty four gamees. that isn't necessarily thing to the to to what I'm seeing those people say because they're like, you know, we've been wanting a remake of this game for years and if this is going to be that plus a new game I mean, that's a win win. Yeah. It's been twenty seven years since episode one racer came out. They've done like bombad racing and stuff also, but This does feel like a spiritual sequel. I really liked what IGN had to say about. You've got all these different vehicles, the land speeders, the skimmers of some kind, the swoop bikes then Of course, pod racers and they said that they were by far the fastest and most fragile. And I'm like, that's perfect. That is exactly how it should be. Yeah, that's how pod racing was kind of explained to us. Very fast, very dangerous. yeah, the way Quaion talked about it, you know no human supposedly would have been able to do it be funny if this were just like literally impossible. You can't pod race. No We're all humans. You're gonna crash every time. You have to be an alien species.. But they showed off the footage of the Bnt to Eve cllassic course which looked just like It did back in episode one Racer, except with amazing graphics was really fun to revisit. I'm excited to play this one. I don't remember at what point of the gameplay this is, but I saw someone show a clip of like Europe you as the character has to like manually start the ship that you're Oh yeah, I like that too. That's just a cool fun side thing that I appreciate. It's something that you don't have to do, but if you do it right, it will give you a bonus, like you'll start faster. And then there was kind of a Mario Kart style trying to time pressing the gas at the right time so that you get another boost at the start In between the two and the three. I really like that. There was also like on foot gameplay. So in between races you can go to the guy that runs the league who was a Vilisk named Adarius, I think. you can talk to the other racers. Yeah. talkalk to an Ardinian to soup up your vehicle. Yeah, like every planet you can go to, there's like a main hub area where you can walk around and like talk to characters and do your little like shopping or whatever and you can see all the different builds. I dig that too because Hades, you know, you go through this big action Run. And then when you inevitably die or do a successful run You kind of go back to the start and you take a breather, you can buy new upgrades and like that, it's just a fun, satisfying gameplay loop that I like a lot. So knowing that we're going to do these intense races And then you get like some time to decompress and go let's let's go soup up the racer or whatever. I just had an idea Maybe Iven've talked about this before Is there a radio that you can listen to like in GTA? O. I don't know That would be fun. I have no idea. I hope so. because like changing the different channels you could listen to like the What's it called like the diggetic stuff from fall in orrder or I mean, like there's tons of different kinds of music in Star Wars now. That is a great question and people pointed out that The footage that was shown had no music. It was just sound effects from capture sessions we have done in the past for like battlefront, especially if it's using John Williams music They just say mute the music so you don't get in trouble. Yeah. And so that makes me think there might be like classic Star Wars music you're listening to while you're racing, but in universal music is what I want. I would love if there were like I want to listen to some Gunk rock Yeah and like rock radio. If you could unlock stuff like T neck or unlocking new songs would be a lot of O Yub Nub. Yeah, like The original versions. If you get to unlock the English version of Loptineeck by John Williamson, lead singer of Toto. That'd be fun. Yeah, I really hope that that's the case. I've already gotten my hopes up on that So I need to I need to reel it in. Worst case scenario, you can get a Spotify playlist and just listen to it while you play the game. That's true. but I am really excited for this game. It looks like it's right up my alley even though I'm not like a big competitive racing game I did just see that Burnout like went on sale. I've had it on my swwitch wishlist for a while and I'm like, I might grab it just to get a taste because I've heard those games are great The the crashes do look amazing and Galactic racer, so I'm psyched everything I've seen so far has me excited. Moving on to last week in Canon, just one new comic issue came out, and it was echoes of the Empire issue three in this Oga is still telling Ray about the time she met Luke and Leia And this time we hear about her basasically helping them get into Java's palace by giving them the chain code for the identity that Lando uses when he goes undercover And then we find out how she leveraged Jaba's death to take over crime on Black Spire I'm taking over crime here. My job is crime. I feel like I got to know a lot of just like the random side character people on Batu, which was fun. But it did have like a really sad moment where Oga is remembering like I don't know, did she grow up with Jaba or like Yeah So there was a lot of talk about how Jaba was her mentor, which that to me feels like something we probably learned when Galaxy's Eedge was coming out and it's like, There's a cantina and it's called Ogas' and the owner is a criminal that worked under Java or something like that So I feel like We probably knew that at some point, but retired criminal crriminal light. Criminal like It was news to me But yeah, we saw like very young Oga on Jaba's shoulder. Yeah. and like there was a tear like falling off of her face as like present day Oga like thinking about that, but she did kill him. So I don't know if she was intending for him to die, but she was definitely helping Luke and Leia get in there and probably thought he would. Yeah. I guess anyone shadowing Jaba growing up is going to become a criminal at some point. Yeah, I mean it's a gangster story as old as time the up and comer kills the mentor kind of thing Do you think she knew Rada I don't know that the shot of young oga on Jaba's shoulder little. Yeah, she looked like a baby. And I was like, did she and Roda grow up together? or I don't know. hope That's true because that means that they could maybe reunite. Or maybe Rada was like I'm out of here, dad. I don't want to be part of the family business. I'm gonna go to the fighting pits. And Jabba had a hole to fill. Yeah And so he took Oga under her wing. We don't know exactly when Rada had his growth spurton left But this was my favorite issue of These three. so far there's two left And we still don't know much about this relic that Darth Vader and everyone's been chasing Oh yeah, there was a whole thing where Darth Vader slaughtered half of Batu Yeah, that was intense. I was like, oh, he's just cutting people in half. Yeah. I guess that makes sense for him. Which that the end of issue two, it was like a bunch of people getting ready to fight him and I was like, well, that's not gonna go well. Do you think all of our regular characters flying off on the millennium Falcon Are they thinking about the fact that they're responsible for like the deaths of all those people? I don't think they were responsible. Maybe not Everyone was trying to protect Alleia I wouldn't say Leia is responsible. I'm sure she felt the weight of it. Vader came there to get that egg thing. Yeah Also they were there. Right. I think that just happened to be like, oh, of course you're here too. He was there for the Green egg Yeah and ham. But not ham. Moving on to last week in fandom. we just wanted to shout out. We got some fan mail from Cloud. young boy who drew us this adorable picture and wrote us a really sweet It's so cute and it's really good. It is really good. I appreciate the like the reflection glint in the eyes. Also, Cloud has better handwriting than I do. Shouted out, Bigs dark lightighter I really loved Cloud said that He was up at Disney World and Kyla Rin pulled me up in front of everyone. I told him that his mom missed him. I was like, my heart I wonder like how many other people in the crowd were just like, Also shouted out that his mom cried when tech died. sameame. Everyone hated that. Yeah. But Cloud also asked us a couple questions that I figured we could answer as we shift into the Q and A section. For Molly, Cloud says, I've watched every TV show except Resistance. What's your favorite TV show? Star Wars, I guess. I guess do w Star Wars one non Star Wars 'use I'm not sure. U it's hard to pick a favourite. so Let me do live action and animated. Okay Animated Rebels I love Rebels. I feel like it's a really well balanced show The writing is great Live action, I guess I'm gonna have to go with Mandalorian because it gave me Grogu. I mean, surrounded by Grogies like I have my ups and downs with the show itself, but ultimately at its core, I'm the happiest with what it's given us in the fandom. I thought you were gonna to say, I'm happiest when Grogu is on screen. I'm happiest when I have any grogu with ins sight. That's why we have a grogu in every room. What's your favorite non Star Wars TV show U of all time, it's gotta be Buffy the Vampire S slayer. what I figure A close second is parks and recreation. To Alex, what if Darth Maul had killed Palpatine and became the new top Sith? I like to think about what ifs. Okay, bye. What if? Yeah, what if Maul took control of everything. I don't think the grand plant. like I guess I'm assuming this is before the Battle of Naboo. kind of thing And if it happened that early or if it happened later, like during the Clone Wars when Maul comes back and he goes through his crazy phase, let's say he's in his top form metal legs and he and Savage best Palpatine I just don't think Order sixty six happens. I don't think the Grand plan goes off. I don't think the Sith take control of the galaxy. I don't think Maul has the chops. No. Maul is re pretty soft, I would say like at his core he puts on a hard act, but also he only cries in the sewer. He doesn't let anyone el see him cry. So much trauma that he's like hiding and just bottling up Palpatine also has a lot of trauma probably, but he's not necessarily hiding it. he's like using it to be more powerful, I guess. And he's just got plans on plans on plans. Yeah Maul is much more maybe this is because we kept comparing Shadow Lord to the Dark Knight, but Maul felt a little more notot as chaotic as the Joker, but a little bit like he's always chasing revenge and he's chas But what happens when you get your revenge man? L you get what you want and then What you do? M Maul's a classic man. He's not good at multitasking. He's too short sided Yeah. he gets tunnel vision He's not thinking about the future the way that palpatine does. So I don't think there's any world where Maul becomes the top Sith and then things go great for him. Yeah. They always talk about how like Palpatine's character is pure evil. There's nothing else to explore there. He is pure evil. He is like the benchmark. Yeah Maul has all this trauma and you know, didn't always start out. where he is now. He was a sweet little boy at one time, just wanted to hang out with his brother and all this stuff happened to him and now he's just trying to survive. and and just like not making the best choices.. Moving on to last week in questestions, we took a few from our Patreon, and Charlie Hodgman asks if there is still a Mandalorian presence on Navarro outside of Obviously because they still live there. Oh yeah, wereeren't they supposed to have like a compound or something? Well, that's yeah, in episode five of seeason three Carga offers them like a stretch of land that goes out to Bullet Canyon. And then two episodes later, they're like we're going to Mandalore. like thanks for the land and all, but we're leaving. Yeah. I mean, I feel like that city will always be friendly to the Mandalorians, but I don't think there's anyone else there now that Mandalorore is up for grabs and is kind of like being ive worked on and healed That's I agree. I think that Den and Grogu are the only Mandalorians there right now, even though Grief Cara gave them a whole stretch of land. It's like, I guess that's just all dins. Maybe. whichich I think that was meant to set up their home at the end of that season. but I always did laugh at that where Grief's like have all this land and they're like, actually we're going to go. I mean, I guess maybe no one's really fighting for that land either way. Maybe Den is turning it into like a blurg sanctuary. I did like seeing blurs on his little ranch. Yeah just a little connection back to Cuel. Yeah, if you like in Kuel's honor make that like a national park Even though Blurgs don't live there naturally. Sure. We're gonna to relocate a lot of Blurgs over to Bullet Canyon. What Star Wars characters or aliens or creatures do you think would excel during the World Cup? The ones with the biggest feat. that my very first thought was ordalinans like Max Ribo because they have feet. only feet. They don't have arms, at least in the current canon. Zeb was the first person that I thought of Now that's interesting because he has very like nimble feet Like he could just grab the ball. That would have to be illegal. could Oh yeah grab it and throw it with his feet. But I did put this question out to social media, so we got a lot of responses and a lot of them are pretty funny. The most specific answer we got was from our friend Charlie Ashby. B I think that stands for General Grivous. Forearms Yeah. Yeahes. I considered like Pong Krell or any Bilisk. any forearmed character would be an excellent g goal. A Bilisk is a good one. R two D two, Yoda, Qion, chopper H Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Maul, Wedge andntillies, Luke Skywker, Anakin Skywalker. You can't put chopper on your football team. Like you're gonna to get nothing but red cards. He's going to murder onene of the enemy players. Charlie says Chopper and R two are the elite defense. with Yoda slash Quion being defenders of peace slash stopping goals. Putting a Jedi on a soccer team feels like cheating too. I guess you just have to trust they won't use the force. Yeah, I feel like in this scenario, no force usage. It's either no force usage or all force usage, like a Jedi versus Sith team. Yeah. Hon and Cheewy and Maul and midfield, a great duo and an aggressive captain Vian Ava said Marin and Cal as a package deal for the teleportation on the pitch Also also very cheating Cheating. Yeah. A couple of people said Spider Legs Mul, which I thought was funny. As long as he doesn't use the force, that's fine. L any iteration of Spider Legs Mul. So like crazy Mul. I thought I like Crazy Maul and the goal. I mean, he's huge to begin with. and it would be hard to get past him even if you were just like huddled in the corner muttering to himself.d be like, Fcus Mall. Come on. pay attention. GI tracked Joe said Gode for goalkeeper whichich would be hilarious. Just standing there Is just a giant rock? Yeah. I'm just imagining him getting hit and basically the face and it bouncing off and announcers being like, what a wild save. But then as soon as no one's looking, he'll like shift over to one side. I think he can shift his size too like that happened into the dark so he could just spread out and cover the whole goal. This is why we never see sports in Star Wars because it's so easy to cheat. at everything. A couple people said Riley Lawson which he was on a sports team. That's what I'm talking about shad true Yes. Who knows how Bodicin translates to soccer, but it's just like a normal high school kid playing a supposedly normal sport. Yeah, you don't see sports that often and you certainly don't see athletes very often in Star Wars. Zera Leonis in the serervants of the Empire books, he was in a couple episodes of Star Wars Rebels.ed Grav Ball, I think. he played something in servants of the Empire. Oh yeah, if we're gonna talk about sports in Star Wars, we've got Grav Ball, there's slap ball, hut ball. There's like all different kinds of like random Lots of just say something weird and add ball to the end of it and that's a Star Wars sport. You did it. Crosshair for striker, center forward I wo got really good aim. I like that. I would like to see if his accuracy translates on the pitch and not just down the scope.. A couple of people said Sulba and questioned whether or not he would play with his hands or feet I would assume Well has to be feet. It's kind of like Zeb again where like he has dexterous feet So that feels a little bit like if he were to Hit it with his feet, that should be a handball. Yeah Be he walks he walks on his hand on his hand. Yeah. Okaykay. so I feel like that feels like the perfect player then because he wouldn't be using his hands. That's true. I would like to see an all dug soccer game. That would be cool. Claude? What's he gonna do I said that. said Claude. He's there for moral support I mean, again impossible for him to get a handball, but But what's he gonna do? We don't yeah, we'm not sure how he moves. We've never even seen him move. Maybe he uses his little face tentacles That feels like a handball Maybe that's how he catches things just th it right in his face. his face. We got to bring in the announcers from episode one.ure Fod and bead. Yes They should announce any sport ever Yeah. that you need the one basic and one Hutes. That's really nice. For our last question, Jedi Master Fawns asks what happened to the Aolytes of the Beyond? Well, they were kind of a big deal in the aftermath trilogy And yeah, they've faded away and then they've popped back up every once in a while. they're like A sith. Dark side worshippping sect that were led by some of Palpatine's advisors. So Yeah, I think that as long as some of those advisers are out there probably some I think of them as kind of like the Church of the Force. peopleeople who are into the dark side but can't necessarily feel or control it. I'll tell you what happened to them. JJ Abrams replaced them with all the people on Exigle. Yeah, that does feel like something we can find some tissue with I bet that There eventually will be a link between those two groups. Yeah. because like did they have an official name? The final order, I guess, the Sithternal? Sith Eternal Yes, yeah. 'cause the final order, they were like the officers on the ships and stuff, right? Yeah, It's all still so muddled and it got unnecessarily convoluted there at the end there are just like a bunch of bodies in black robes on Eigold h out. And I very much think that yeah, we could consider them Sith acccolytes, Aollytes of the Beyond, etcetera We did. I think the most recently we have seen them named was in the Battle of Jaku Cics a little over a year ago, a year and a half ago They popped up in that And they were led by one of Palpatine's advisors We know that Venay considers himself to be an acccoolte of the beyond So yeah, I just think that they were groups led by Palpatine's advisors and that probably then transformed into The Sith eternal Groupies. Groupies, Sith group. Sith groupies. Yeah them. But that's it for last week in Star Wars. Next week we're going to talk about the Rogue O Sagarerera One shot and any news that comes out.
