This is tangents . Hi, my name is Jeff Clear from Hastings, Minnesota. I am an elementary school teacher. Uh I am looking for questions on Jim Henson, Star Wars, or comic books, and comic strips . What is the last question you missed? You know what? I was. This is kind of embarrassing. I was uh playing on Brewers, Regal Ruckus, and uh I think I was on spring break, so I might have been uh drinking more than I normally do during a trivia. And and I missed a very easy question about Susan B. Anthony. Yeah, just for whatever reason the most obvious name was not coming. It happens. Coming at that time. So yeah. But it scarred you to the point where you can remember it right off the bat. That's the last thing you missed. Well the yeah, it's one of those things it's like I knew it and it was just for whatever reason. It's not even one of those things like, Oh, I heard this once a long time ago. It's it's basic in your brain. Well, Jeff, like I said, I want to get to it as quickly as possible before I lose my voice. Are you ready to make your quiz? I'm ready. Let's do it. Let's do it. We are going to pick your game up where Nancy Skinner left off with this question. Similar in usage to ancient Rome's numerius Negatius. What placeholder name dating back to the fourteenth century reign of Edward III was used for the name of Kevin Spacey's character in the credits for seven? I believe that was John Doe. That was John Doe. Your first point of the game, and you get these tangents, Latin, names, 1990s films, or rhymes with Go. Well, I learned last time going too broad with like something like names could lead you anywhere. My Latin is terrible. 90s films possibly. Uh you know what? Rhymes with Go gives me lots of ins. Let's let's try that to start out. Okay. Here is your first there . What variation of a classic Italian cocktail which replaces gin with prosecco? Got some social media buzz after a 2022 YouTube interview with House of the Dragon Passmates, Emma Darcy and Olivia Cook. Um well, maybe I shouldn't have gone with rhymes with Go off the bat here. Uh it's gotta be better than the original Italian cocktail because gin is nasty. So replacing that right off the bat is a is a good thing. Um uh I can't even think of Italian cocktail with gin rhymes with go. Trosecco rhymes with go , but I doubt that's it. Um, let's see. I should have defaulted to my categories. Anyways, um you know what, Ross, my mind is blank right now. I, you know, I think I'm just gonna have to take the uh take the loss on this one. Taking the L. This one uh if you didn't see the interview or really know your uh classic Italian cocktails, this one might have been tough. This was the Negroni Spagliato. Yeah, no never would never would have got that. Not getting there, eh, Jeff? Yep. Nothing hurts. Just your first miss. But uh you have these tangents to work with: alcohol, social media, interviews, or rhymes with go. Al.right I think we're resetting right now because those are even worse than the first ones. There we go. Yeah. Resetting to your categories here. Jim Henson, Comics, Star Wars, or Wildcard. But why would you do that? Well, why not? Um You you've done it before. Yeah, that was one of my one of my categories before. Um, you know what? Let's go comics. I think that'll be a good variety for people to listen to. We'll we'll go comics. Going comics. These could be either com ics or comic books. Sounds good. You can visit FBORFW dot com for the online version of what Lynn Johnson comic strip about the Patterson family that ran original strips from nineteen seventy-inen through two thousand eight. Okay, this would be the wonderful strip for better or for worse. Wonderfully drawn and and uh the family aged in real time, which was uh very unique. So yeah, it's a great strip. Yeah, still available on uh online. Uh the F B O R F W dot com . Yeah, check it out. Very good strip. And very good for you. That's your second point of the game. And to get you these tangents. Better. The internet . Comics. Or the 1970s. Uh well, I think uh we just need to stick with comics. Sticking with comics. Debuting in 1932. What comic strip character was the subject of a number one song by the Hollywood Argyles? And shares his name with a flashy basketball move. Huh. 193 2. Hollywood Argylls, I have no idea who those they are . And a flashy basketball move. There's some kind of dunk, but I can't think of a comic character with a dunk. Um oh geez. Yeah. Uh now I got the song. Once it all puts together, yeah, this would be uh Ali Oop. When you got yourself all the way to Dunk, I figured it was gonna come pretty soon. Ally Oop. Yeah, and I remember the song now too, yeah. That is your third point. Gonna get you these tangents. The nineteen thirties, comics, characters, or basketball. Well, characters was what I kept doing last time to try to get into one of my categories, but since I'm already there, let's stick with comics. Sticking with comics. Inspired by a 1775 quote by Patrick Henry. What is the three-word title of Frank Miller's comic book miniseries published by Dark Horse Comics in 1990 that begins in a dystopian Ooh, okay, so alright, Patrick Henry. See give me liberty or give me death . Uh so which half of that do I want to go with ? Russ, blink once if I should go with the first half and twice if I should go with the second . Uh I'm gonna go with give me uh I believe that's give me liberty . Oh boy, you flipped the coin correctly, Jeff. It is give me liberty. Yes, not death. Yeah. All right. That is your fourth point. And it gets you these tangents. WNBA team names, uh Liberty, the New York Liberty, uh quotes, history, or comics. I think I'm since I'm doing terrible with history lately, let's uh stick with the comics. Sticking with comics. Here you go. What superhero was introduced in 1962 as the cover for Hank Pym, but has also been the alter ego for Eric O'Grady, Chris McCarthy, and most notably to MCU fans, Scott Lang. Uh that would be Ant-Man. It would be Ant-Man, and Ant-Man gets you your fifth point. And these tangents. Alter egos, the nineteen sixties, comics, or heroes. Ooh, I like all those, but nineteen sixties. Um , but I think we since we're here we we keep going with uh comics and I think the a lot of the tangents going out of that should hopefully lead to something good. So we'll stick with that. All right, here is your next one up. Your fourth question in comics What surname is shared by a Douglas Adams protagonist, a coin flipping Batman character, the MVP of Superman the MVP of Super Bowl twenty for the Bears, and Alexicographer on the British game show Countdown. Alright, uh that would be Dent. That would be Dent, yes, as in Arthur, Harvey Two Face. Richard, and Susie. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't I didn't know the last one, but the other three. Yeah, Susie Dent. If you watch Countdown, or uh eight out of ten cats that does countdown, you'll uh you'll get to know Suzy Dent. That, the Dent , gets you your sixth point and fourth in a row in comics, so you have one more there. Surnames, literature, comics, or NFL are your tangents. Let's finish out comics, I think. Finishing comics. The November 2nd, 1952 Peanuts comic strip is the first time we see what character move the football as Charlie Brown tries to kick it. Oh, that wasn't very nice. This would be Lucy, specifically Lucy Van Pelt. It would be Lucy Van Pelt. And Lucy Van Pelt gets you your seventh point. And these tangents. That was your fifth in comics. So you've killed that for now. You can always make your way back to it, but uh here we go. Nineteen fifties, first , and characters. Surprised this didn't like legumes or something like that, Russ. Right. Uh okay., well 50s are out. Firsts could be lots of things. Characters killed me last time, but I think that can also lead me more into tangents of things that I might do well with, so let's let's jump into characters. Go into characters. Okay. There are currently over 1,000 Pokemon characters officially registered in the Pokedex. But near the top of the list at number 25, you'll find which of the electric type characters, who was voiced by Ryan Reynolds in the 2019 fantasy film. Um don't want to overthink this. 2019 was Detective Pikachu and I know Ryan Reynolds voiced a character in that, so I'm not gonna try to think of other Pokemon characters. I'm just gonna go with uh Pikachu . Go with Pikachu, and yeah, you got the right movie. It's the detective Pikachu , and that is your eighth point, and it gets you these tangents, characters, Pokemon, list s or 2010's films. Alright, my son just walked downstairs. Can I tag out for the Pokemon? Uh in a future version of the game, yes. Not in this one, though. Alright. Well, it was worth a shot. Worth a shot, yeah. Um 'cause he he would run the table on that, that's true. Absolutely. Um and I'm sure he's told me all this Pokemon knowledge over the years, but I have not retained any of it. So um I think let's ooh let's stick with characters. Alright, just stick with characters then. Squirrel Nutkin, Miss Moppet, Jemima Puddleduck, Mr. Samuel Whiskers, and Mr. Jeremy Fisher are all characters created by one author and illustrator who 's best known for her stories about a leper rhyme title character. Oh my dog thinks she knows the answer. Um probably. Uh yes did he say Bunny? Um I believe this would be Beatrice Potter? Beatrix Potter, yes, Peter Abbott And that is your ninth point. And to get you these tangents. Characters, authors, children's books, or title characters. Alright. Let's get off of characters now. Um and let's jump to children's books, please. Children's books, yeah. Laugh in cast member Henry Gibson was the voice behind Whattion Ealmo Pig in the 1973 animated movie version of Charlotte's Webb. Oh, this was a very fine pig. Uh, that would be Wilbur. Was a very fine pig, yes. And that, Jeff, gets you to 10 points, you're in double digits now, with these tangents. Pigs, 1960s TV, 1970s films, or children's books. Now the 70s films is tough, because if it's it's the late 70s, that'd be good, but I'm not great on the early 70s. Um so let's let's stick with children's books. Alright, staying with children's books adapted for a nineteen ninety-nine film, what E. B. speaking of E. B. White. What E. B. White children's book, published seven years before Charlotte's Webb, was inspired by a dream he had about a tiny boy. Okay, this book creeped me out. Still creeps me out. You know, E.B. White's got like four books he's known for. We already named uh Charlotte's Webb. Then there's uh Trumpeter Swan or Trumpet of the Swan. I forget which way it goes. Uh and then of course uh Elements of Style. This one is Stuart Little. And it creeps me out because he's not a boy. He's a mouse. Born to human parents. That's just weird. It creeps me out. Uh oh. It is weird, yes. Yeah. Uh that is your 11th point. And it gets you these tangents. 1990s films, children's books, dreams, or wildcard. Uh let's keep rolling with children's books. More children's books. Here's your third one. twenty twenty three's Best Big Sister Ever is the sixty fifth installment in a Catherine Hollibird children's book series that began in nineteen eighty three with what book about a dancing mouse? I know it more from the the cartoon than the book series, I think. Oh yeah. Uh I believe this would be Angelina Ballerina. It would be Angelina Ballerina. You're right, there is an animated uh version of that. And that gets you your twelfth point and these tangents, rodents, children's books, 2020s books, or nineteen eighties. It's working for me. Let's stick with children's books. It really is. Here's your fourth one in that category . Jeff, you have found a before and after question. Yes. I'll tell you later why I'm excited about that. Half of which will be uh a children's book. But here is your question. Okay. A 1911 children's book by Francis Hodgson Burnett gets interesting when Mary Lennox finds a key. Plus a 2004 Zack Brath film with a soundtrack that includes Coldplay, The Shins, Colin Hay, and Nick Drake. Okay . So are these in order where the book is first and then the film? Mm-hmm. Yep. Okay. And they overlap with a word or just a phrase or something like that . Forward. For word, yeah. Okay. I don't know if that's gonna help me. All right. Um 1911's book. Let's see. What do we need keys for? Are we need keys to get into attics , cellars , cupboards . There's the Indian in the cupboard, but I don't know if she wrote that. What else can you unlock? Room . Secret room . Uh Zach Braff films are not really my wheelhouse. I know who he is and I can picture him, but I'm pretty sure I probably did not see this movie. The soundtrack part . W arehat films that I remember from that narrow that had soundtracks ? This is where Russ puts in the three years later. Two to three years of post-production later . Alright. I have no idea. I'm gonna go Indian in the cupboard board of education. The Indian in the cupboard of education. Board of Education. Um I think maybe if you were better with Zach Braff movies, you would have gotten there. Uh iconic soundtrack. One of the best soundtracks in my opinion of all time. The movie is Garden State. Okay. The secret garden state, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I thought of secret garden, but I don't think I would have come up with garden state. It garden state. Sounds familiar now, but I don't I don't think I would have gotten there. Alright, that was a good one. Oh no it now. Yeah, you learned something today. Your tangents out of that will be before and after, children's books, 2000s films, or soundtracks. All right. How many do I have left in children's books? One more in children's books. All right Al.right,' heres what I'm gonna do. You know, I've with the exception of this one, I was doing well in children's books. I'm gonna go because Russ, you may not have known this. I have entered into the podcasting world. Oh.ep Y, I've recorded three episodes. None of them have aired yet. They hopefully will be out when uh when this one airs. But it's called Mash Up Trivia. So it's all before and after questions. So you're an expert in before and afters. Yes. Well I'm I'm good I'm good at writing them. Oh gotcha. Uh let's see if I'm uh good at solving before and afters as I am with uh writing them. Yeah. Here's your first one in before and After. A veteran actor with roles in The Hateful Eight, Deepwater Horizon, and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, plus the second player in NBA history to average a triple-double in a season. Oh man. Alright, I'm terrible with names, especially names of actors, so okay. Guardians of the Galaxy, just volume two. Yeah. Interesting. Hateful Eight. Seen Hateful Eight in Guardians of the Galaxy. Who was in both of those? If I come up that, I should be able to get the NBA player, I would hope. But um problem is there was tons of people in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. Alright, maybe I have to go the other way and think of NBA players to average at triple double in a season. Let's see. Boop-boop boop-boop bum. I'm gonna kick myself when I hear it . Yeah, you know what, Russ? I am not coming up with it. They're just gonna names this week are not coming to me. We're just gonna have to uh uh take the loss here and take the L. Okay. To recap, uh that actor who had roles in the Hateful Eight, Deepwater Horizon and Guardians of the Galaxy, specifically volume two, was Kurt Russell. Okay. And the second player to average a uh triple double in the season, I think Nikola Jokic has done it since, but uh Russell Westbrook. So you get Kurt Russell Westbrook for your answer. Yeah, I don't know if I would have been able to pull Kurt Russell from from that. He just wasn't coming. So it was a good question. Well you can use it for for what you have going up. Yeah. Jeff. Yeah. Your game may be over, but we're gonna end on a good note. Sounds good to me. Which of your categories would you like to choose from? Let's go Jim Henson. Why not? Jim Henson. Okay. Here we go. Animals on drums, Floyd Pepper is on bass, Janice is the guitarist, and Zoot and Lips make up the horn section. But what gravelly voice singer and keyboardist originally voiced by Jim Henson, is the front man for the electric mahem. That would be Dr. Teeth. Dr. Teeth, yeah. And we go out on a good note, Jeff. Yeah. Anything you want to uh shout out or plug before we say goodbye? And I know there is because you just told me about it. Yeah. So um like you and so many other uh other people, um I've decided to you know get rich starting my own uh trivia podcast. So um you know gonna s can't wait for those uh those those uh coins to start rolling in. Same here, buddy. Same here . Uh so hopefully uh the first episode will be out when uh this air s, but it's called MashUp Trivia. It's all before and after questions. I've got three uh recorded, um, and everybody seems to be having a a good time with it. So cool. That's mashup trivia. Look for it wherever uh trivia podcasts are sold. Search for it on your uh favorite podcatcher. It will certainly be out by the time this episode drops . So yeah. By that time I think uh you you'll probably have uh forty or fifty episodes out by then. Well, I don't know. I've got the the recording's going fine. I just gotta the the editing part of it is uh I've got three recorded, half edited. That's just it. Anyways. Uh well, can't wait to listen to that, Jeff. Thanks for having me on, Russ. Always a good time. You bet. Have a great rest of your day. This is Tang ents . Hey, this is Matt Lamia from Orlando-Isch, Florida. Topics I'm looking for today are 80s music, Major League Baseball, and the Friends TV show. It has been a while. Yeah, it's been a while since the last time I was on. And I still kick myself every day for missing the question I missed. Sweet child of mine, sweeper. Uh oh yeah. I keep uh I keep saying I I'd still be running that category if if I would have got that one . But yeah, uh, you know, just staying busy with work, staying busy with kids stuff, uh going to the TWA takeover in a couple weeks in Pittsburgh. Yeah. Uh Sparkle Count in November. Yeah, got a lot of a lot of stuff to look forward to. Yeah, I wish I could do the uh Pittsburgh thing, but I have to host a trivia night that night. So obligations. Go where the money is. Exactly. You'll be happy to know, since you've been uh thinking about that missed before and after question all this time. You're gonna start with a before and after question this time. That's amazing. You have a chance to get back on the train. All right, we'll see what happens. Uh what can you recommend? Uh there's a there's a another podcast. It's called Cinephobe. Uh there's a there's a lot of Cynophobe. Okay. Yeah, there's a lot of movie podcasts out there with similar names. But um these are a couple of guys that uh I think they're basketball analysts on XM for ESPN maybe. Okay. Uh but what they do is they they review movies on rotten tomatoes that are less than forty percent. Excellent. And they and they daisy chain from one movie to another, whether it be you know through a character or movie title or just something in the movie, and they just file the movie or phobe the movie, you know, with whether they liked it or not. But it's just they're just hysterical the way they review the movies. They go they go scene by scene and then they insert their own, you know, opinions and stuff through the scenes. It's it's fun. It's it's a fun podcast. Sounds right up my alley. Yeah . Uh what's a question I should ask the next player? What would your day-to-day life theme music be? Like if you're walking around every day? What what what song or songs would be playing behind you? Yeah, that's perfect. What plays in your head while you're going about your daily business? I I think mine would be a loser by Beck. No . No, not at all. You just enjoy Spanish. That's all. Yes, that's that's what it is. Yeah. Four, four years of high school Spanish. That's it. There you go. Uh are you still quizzing at the same spots we uh talked about past? Yeah. Uh the Aluma Bowling Alley on Sundays and Tuesdays, Kiwis Pub on Wednesdays, and just And just to shout out my my friend that I do the Sundays and Tuesdays with Simon Time Trivia, he does uh the Copper Rocket pub in Maitland, Florida on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. I try to get there when I can, but it's not definitely on a weekly thing when that I get there. Simon Time uh did he used to have a podcast. Yes, he had a podcast, yeah, and uh kind of fizzled out because he's been because he's been busy. 'Cause uh he's also also he wrestles. He he's in the wrestling circuit down here too. So I mean the two go hand in hand really don't they? Yeah, of course. In trivia and wrestling. Exactly the same. Yeah, same thing. Uh fantastic. Well Matt, speaking of trivia. Are you ready to make your game? Let's do this. We are gonna start your game where Jeff Clear left off with this question. I like I said before, uh you left last time on a before and after question. Now you go right back into it. Uh with this before and after. Okay. A veteran actor with roles in The Hateful Eight, Deepwater Horizon, and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Two, plus the second player in NBA history to average a triple double in a season. When you talk about triple doubles in the NBA, you think Russell Westbrook, uh, Westbrook? So this has to be Kurt Russell Westbrook. It does have to be Kurt Russell Westbrook. Uh that gets you your first point of the game and it gets you these tangents, before and after. Actors, 2010's films, or the NBA. Let's continue on with before and after. I thought you might. The American singer-songwriter, best known for his 2008 single Let It Rock, plus the well-known character cre ated in 1939 from Montgomery Ward Department Stores. Ooh . This is not good right out of the gate. Um let's see. Montgomery Ward Department store . I know that's something Christmas related. I mean I don't know if and I don't as Rudolph . But again, I mean that's still not gonna get me back to the singer. Alright, well this is not starting off well. Uh I don't I don't have either side of this. So I think I'm just gonna tap and move on, unfortunately. Tap and move on. Well you were right about R Rududololph. It isph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Okay. And the artist behind that song Let It Rock was Kevin Rudolph. Never heard of him. Yeah, well there you go. That was not gonna come then. Yeah, Kevin Rudolph was rednosed. The only Rudolph I had was Maya Rudolph, and I''m like, no, its not her. It was not Maya Rudolph, yeah. No. All right. Nothing hurt, just your first miss, and you have these tangents to work with before and after. Christmas, two thousands music, or characters. I mean 2000s music is scary because if it's early 2000s, that would be better with the with the new metal and all that stuff. Um yeah, let's try a 2000s music. Hopefully it'll get me close to my 80s music somehow. We'll see what happens. Here's your uh first in 2000s music. Kind of. The 2003 Randy Savage album, Be a Man, includes a song called Perfect Friend, written as a tribute to Kurt Henning, but the title song was a diss track calling out what fellow wrestler for being a coward during their apparently very real feud. Um this is crazy. I don't follow wrestling. I don't follow this wrestling. I mean of course I know who Rainy Savages and Kurt Henning is. I know I know them. Um but I had no idea that he put out an album. Uh just a shot in the dark. I'll go with Hulk an. It's a good shot in the dark. It is. Yeah. Hulk an. Yeah. I knew they were, you know, friends for a while and thought maybe something happened and they had a falling out. So good guess on my part. Good guess . Uh that gets your second point, and it gets you these tangents. Distracts, two thousands music, wrestling, or wildcard. All right, well , not wrestling. Yeah, not wrestling and probably not distracts either, because I think that's gonna lead me into into more of the rap genre, which I don't yeah, which I don't uh listen to that much. So uh I'll try two thousands news again and hopefully get an easier question. Easier for me question. Right. We'll see. What singer songwriter hit the top fifty on the Billboard Pop and Adult Pop charts with his two thousand six single, The Geek in Pink. Okay. So make this uh three songs in a row that I haven't heard of. Oh boy. This is amazing. Um it says his single, so that narrows it down. Um 2006 . Uh wow. Geek in pink. You know, this is why I picked 80s music as my as my category. Um I am struggling again , 2006, and I'll just throw out Ed Sheeran and be wrong. You will be wrong. Yes. Yes, it is um Mr. A to Z, Jason Mraz . Jason Mraz is the geek in the I I don't like him. No, you don't. No, if he if he comes on the radio I can't turn him off fast enough. Okay. Well there you go. I mean no no you know, no uh offense. I just don't I don't like his music. Sure. Yeah, yeah. Uh that gets you these tangents. Pink, sing ers, billboard, two thousands music, or you could always reset. Yeah, I got my two strikes. Let's uh let's reset because I'm not and I'm not thrilled about the categories up there now. So There you go. Okay. You're resetting the board then, and your categories to remind listeners are Friends, the TV show, nineteen eighties music , or Major League Baseball. This could come back to bite me, but let's let's start with friends. Start with friends. Okay . In 19 episodes of Friends, Maggie Wheeler put on an exaggerated Longland Is accent to play what recurring character. Okay, well, first of all that accent was not exaggerated. Um being from Long Island myself. Long Island? Right. Yeah, that's A that's L-A-W-N -G-U-Y-Land, Long Island . Yeah, that was uh that was Janus. That was Janice indeed. And that gets you your third point. And it gets you these tangents. Friends, New York, characters, or actresses. Alright, well, I don't want my New York card taken away. Uh possibly getting something wrong there. So I I will stick with friends for now. All right, stay with friends. Here is your next one in friends. No, it's only tangentially friends. So hopefully you can swing this. The 2024 Netflix series No Good Deed is a dark comedy centered on homeowners played by Ray Romano, and what actress who scored the most Emmy nominations of any of the Friends cast for their work on the show? Alright, uh yeah, I've scrolled past this series a few times um trying to remember who from friends was in it um I thought it was Lisa Kudrew at first but I don't think that's right. Um you know what? Uh I think you know her name came to me first . I guess I'll I'll stick, I will say Lisa Coudre for my answer. I'm glad you did. I was hoping you wouldn't change your mind. It it is Lisa Coudre, yeah. Cool. And uh if you you need to file that away too. She has the semi nominations of any of the cast. Okay. That is filed away. There you go. Uh that is your fourth point. It'll get you these tangents. Hidden Simpsons references, Lisa , one of the uh Simpsons characters, 2020s TV, Friends, or Netflix. Uh let's uh it's been doing any okay so far. A little bit of struggle, but let's stick with friends. Sticking with friends. Here's your third one. What Oscar winning actress guest starred on Friends as Susie Underpants, a bullied former classmate of Chandler's, who gets revenge when she leaves him naked in a restaurant bathroom. Yeah, loved uh love this episode. And I almost answered too quickly. I had to rethink for a second. Uh, because it wasn't uh it wasn't Brooke Shields, it was Julia Roberts. It was Julia Roberts, indeed, yeah. Uh that is your fifth point, and it gets you these tangents. Friends, Oscars, Actresses, or Wildcard. Let's uh stick with friends, please. Sticking with friends. On Friends, what country does Chandler tell Janice that he's been relocated to in order to avoid her? I believe he was moving to uh 15 Yemen Street in Yemen. I might I might be wrong on the street Avenue way or something, but it's definitely Yemen. That is hilarious, yeah. Yemen. Anytime I want to avoid somebody, I just tell them I'm moving to Yemen. I'm moving to Yemen. Exactly. Yeah. All right, that is your fourth. You can do one more from friends if you want to, before we to have to move something else. Uh or you can take characters, 90s TV or wildcard. Nope, let's close it out. Alright. Closing it out with friends. Here we go. When Phoebe claimed moral victory for the mer men in the Thanksgiving Day game against the Lions in the one with the rumor. It was because she didn't know the real name of the team from what city. This is pretty deep. Um, I mean, I know the episode, I don't remember the teams playing on on the game TV that day, on that episode. Trying to think of what NFL team could be could be associated with being mer men . I keep wanting to go back to the the Seahawks, but I I'm highly confident that that's not right because I don't think the Seahawks have ever played on Thanksgiving Day. Especially in the nineties when there was still only two games on Thanksgiving Day. Something's tickling my brain, I mean, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Uh it was a good run while it lasted. But I wanna say, and I'm gonna say that it's uh the Green Bay Packers. It is in fact Green Bay. You must have had that tucked away. I just didn't know if they played each other or they you know they sometimes they'll play Dallas or whatever. But yeah. And uh it's a bay, so they must have aquatic creatures. There you go. Yeah, Green Bay. There you go. The bay. Yeah, I I I missed missed that. that tangent with the with the mermaid. There you go. Bada bang. That's your seventh point. And that uh closes out for now the friends category for you. Okay. Uh if you happen to make it back, great. If not, uh you had a good run. But you do have NFL, holidays, or wildcard. Um, I like to think of myself as okay in sports trivia, uh hence MLB being one of my specialty categories. Uh I'll go ahead and do NFL. See where that gets me. See where it gets you. Okay, here we go. Retired official Phil Luckett will likely be remembered for a rule change that resulted from a nineteen ninety eight Thanksgiving day game between the Lions and Steelers, during which he seemed to miss what call. the uh hedger tails on the toine claw I mean the coin toss . It was indeed the uh coin toss. Yeah, I remember Jerome Jerometus freaking out. I think it was Jerome . He was freaking out. Yeah. Yeah. Indeed. Yeah, you remembered it exactly right. That's your eighth point. And it gets you these tangents. NFL, holidays, failure, or rules. Well, I don't like rules. Uh I'm too familiar with failure, but I'm gonna stay away from that. Uh let's stick with NFL. Sticking with NFL, here we go. Oh, and it's very tangentially NFL. Okay. Uh the music video for the Super Bowl shuffle was taped on December 3rd, 1985, and went on to become the second best-selling music video of all time, behind what other 80s classic. Well, I mean, I think of best-selling music videos in the 80s. I mean, it has to be thriller. Yeah, I'm I'm gonna say thriller. Uh yeah, it is thriller, of course. Yeah. Anyone familiar with 80s music? And I and I'll tell you, being I mean, so that thriller was what, 82, eighty three. So I was just about a teenager. That video freaked me out. Yeah. I mean when he like when he first transformed into the werewolf and he he screamed or whatever. I that scared the hell out of me. Yeah. And the behind the scenes. Yeah, I remember the behind the scenes stuff. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Good stuff, yeah. Well that's your ninth point, Matt. Okay. The NFL , one of your subjects, eighties music, or records.. Alright It came up, so I have to move on to it. Nineteen eighties music, please. You almost have to, right? Have to. Here it is. 80s music. Mentioned in Billy Joel's We didn't start the fire. What is the last name of the couple convicted of transmitting nuclear secrets to the Soviet Union in 1953? Okay. Uh I need to take a minute because I know it's uh I know it's a berg name. I just don't I gotta think of which. I mean Heisenberg is breaking bad. I know it's not bad . I'm pretty sure the last name is Rosenberg. Yes, it is. It is Rosenberg, yeah. Once you get to Heisenberg, I figured you're most of the way there. Yes, I was like Heisenberg, Eisenberg. Yeah, I was like there's just too many to choose from. Yeah, it's not just you know. Uh UF it double digits, you're at ten points now. And you have these tangents to work with. Bergs and Bergs . Uh nineteen eighties music, lyrics, or nineteen fifties. Um, I like lyrics, but it's not liking enough to get me away from eighties music, so. More eighties music. Here we go. As one of the network's most played videos of all time, what number one hit won Peter Gabriel, a record nine MTV Video Music Awards in 1987. Definitely a cutting-edge video at the time. Uh and I want to be your sledgehammer. Sledgehammer it is. What a video that uh it was all stop motion with. Yeah, stop motion, yeah. It's crazy. Yeah. Sledgehammer gets you to 11 points and it gets you these tangents, 12 letter words, MTV, awards, or 1980s music. Let's do 80s music again. 80s music. Well , uh like I said, these are completely random. Uh Pete Wentz told an interviewer, listen, we did our best. His is not totally in chronological order, but it's more in chronological order than ours when asked about his band's updated version of what nineteen eighty nine song. You know, it's on the tip of my tongue. Yeah. Uh yeah. Hopefully hopefully I can hopefully I can pull it for the recesses of my brain. Yeah. Uh yeah, this is Billy Joel's Weed and Start the Fire. I already gave you points. Yeah. Thank you. You know, and I get and I get nervous when you start laughing before reading the question. Yeah. Because you're like super tangential or super easy. In this this case, it went uh in your direction. Uh that is your twelfth point, and it gets you these tangents. Starts with a pronoun, we in this case, interviews, remakes, or nineteen eighties music. Uh let's keep going with 80s music. 80s music, you're fourth. Wow. We get not only 80s music, but friends. Oh jeez. Craziness. Yeah. What billboard number one hit from 1987 is used as a recurring musical mood setter during important scenes in the Ross and Rachel story on Friends, especially during the We Were on a Break storyline. Oh my god, if I hear We Were on a Break one more time, I'm gonna break up with you . Uh, this is uh you twos with or without you. It is indeed you twos with or without you. Another song I really don't like, but it is what it is. It is what it is, yeah. Uh that is your thirteenth, lucky thirteenth point, and it gets you these tangents. Go without Billboard, nineteen eighties music, more friends. I'll stick with eighties music and see where that gets me after. Yeah. Okay. Let's see. how it goes Edge of a Broken Heart and Crying were top 40 hits for what 80s all-female band named for a female fox. Uh my glam, hair metal, heyday. Uh such a time. Great time. Uh this was uh this was Vixen. It was indeed Vixen. Yeah, I knew that would even without the female fox clue. I mean they're not the Bangles, but they're not the Bangles. No. Mm. Susanna Hoffs. Uh that was your fourteenth point. It's also the end of that run in 80s music anyway. Okay. And it gets you to these tangents. Easy anim als, band s, or Latin. Hmm. I wonder why the animals are easy. Um but you know, let's go off on a tangent. Let's go with bands. Bands it is. Okay, here we go. Maybe this gets us back to 80s music. That's what I'm hoping. Yeah, here we go. What band from Michigan had their biggest hit in nineteen ninety-six when the song The Freshman peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100? All right. This is one of my favorite songs of the nineties. I play the hell out of that song. I bought the C D for that song and the rest of the C D is amazing too. Um now I just have to not answer too fastly . Too fastly, is that a word? Too quickly. Uh-huh. Okay. This is the verb pipe. Yes. In this case, it helped to lengthen your answer. Yes. Yes. The verb pipe. The weirdest thing in the world, these two one hit essentially one hit wonder bands, both had their one hits during the same year, right was crazy. Right. And too similar of a name. Yeah. The Verve and the Verve pipe. Yeah. All right. That is your fifteenth point. And it gets you these tangents. Bands. Michigan. 1990s music. It's close to 80s music. Yeah. And college. College and I do not have a good relationship. Um or maybe it was a too good of a relationship. Uh all right, let's uh let's go and flip over to nineties music. 90s music. Here we go. What plan appears in the former stage name of the artist who released her first solo album Schizophonic in 1999, as well as the first names of a dancer mentioned by Madonna in Vogue, the drummer for the band Cream , and the chief meteorologist for ABC News. Alright, I think I got it. Uh I believe Madonna mentions uh Ginger Rogers and the drummer for Cream, I believe was Ginger baker. So I'm gonna go with ginger. Gonna go with ginger. Yes, and ginger spice from the spice girls. Oh god, okay. Jerry Hollowell. And of course ABC News uh Ginger z uh the that i didn't for abc news yeah well there you go now you today you learned yep learned something today there you go you got your 16th point and you got these tangents hidden bread gingerbread in this case . Plants. 1990s music. More stage names. Oh, let's stick with 90s music. More nineties music. Here we go. In 1995, Blues Traveler had a top 40 hit with a single about how easy it is to write a top 48, pointing out that the content doesn't matter as long as what part of the song is good. Yeah, it's because the hook brings you back. So that's the hook is the hook's the answer. The hook does bring you back. Yeah, it is the hook. That gets you to seventeen points, and it gets you these tangents . There's a captain in your answer, Captain Hook in this case. 1990s music, bands, or billboard. Well, I don't want to be the captain now. Um so let's go back to nineties music. More nineties, here we go. A nineteen ninety-three IRA bombing with tragic results in northern Eng land inspired what protest song that hit number one on the U.S. alternative airplay chart in 1994. Hmm . Not getting this right off the bat. Yeah, I I think upon how this has not come to me at all and I really don't even have a decent guess. Um I mean of course it'll probably light up all the light bulbs when you say it, but I cannot think of a a song that was considered considered a protest song back in 9 4. I mean I definitely was listening to alternative in 94. Maybe this was just out of my uh out of my range. Um yeah, yeah, I think I'm just gonna have to tap here and end it because I I I can't. Yeah. What if I gave you the clue the band is the cranberries ? Oh for yeah, it's zombie. Yeah. Zombie it is. Yeah. Hey. Didn't I never I never put that together that it was a protest song. Sometimes uh if you don't pay attention to the lyrics with their tanks and their bombs and their guns and their guns it's in your head. It's in your head. Sometimes it's not in your head. I mean the song is definitely in my head because I could probably sing it word for word. It's I mean I I've heard it eight million times, but yeah, I just didn't make the connection to the there you go to the to the bombing. So you had a great run. You got to seventeen points, but it's not over yet. We're gonna end on a good note. So do you want to do that in Friends, eighties music or major league baseball? Oh well, just because we didn't hit it today, let's uh flip over to M L B, see what we got Let's do MLB. Here we go. When Yankees center fielder Joe DiMaggio retired after the nineteen fifty-one season, who moved over from his right field position to replace him the following year? Yeah, I believe this was uh good old number seven, Mickey Manel. It was indeed the uh the Mick, yeah. Well we have ended on a good note. Well done, well played. You played a great game and had a very long streak there. Your longest streak was fi fteen in a row. So yeah, I mean, because uh the last time I was on two, I mean my streak was with two strikes also, you know, two misses already. So that's the key. You really just have to start off the game with two strikes and then just go crazy. Arriving under pressure.. There you go That's the way to do it. Anything you want to shout out or plug before we say goodbye? Yeah, um support your trivia hosts, whether they be online or in person. We want to appreciate the all the work that they do, uh, including you, Ross, obviously. Oh, thanks, man. Um and just uh be a good human. You know, don't try to be one, just just be one. You know, we need we need more good humans. No better time for that. Yep. Amen. Thank you very much, sir. Hope you have a good rest of your day and I,'ll see you soon. Thanks, Russ. Been a pleasure. This is tangents, I think. I don't know, it's been a long day Sorry, the dog's being annoying. Um Does the dog have a key to the room? She just gets jealous if I'm talking to somebody else, so You can do it, Russ, I have faith in you. I can do it. I I can do it.
