Before we jump into the episode, a quick reminder that Trivia National's twenty twenty six is coming off august seventh through the ninth back in Las Vegas this year at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa. It's a whole week in a trivia, game show exhibition, some serious and not so serious quizzing, and being surrounded by people who share your thirst for knowledge. I will be hosting the pop culture bee this year and I would love to see tangent listeners there. Use the code pop twenty six to get twenty dollars off your ticket. That's pop twenty six POP twenty six Tribia National twenty twenty six . I'll see you in Vegas . Now on with the show This is Tangents Hey, my name's Ian Schulzi. I live in the little town of Monkton, Vermont, where I'm playing from , I like to backpack for fun and take my dogs for walks, so pretty much spend all my time outside if I can. And especially subjects I am looking for are Pink Floyd and Star Trek . What's the last thing that inspired you to make a flash card? Well, your game was last night. If I remember correctly, I made one last night. What from my game inspired a flashcard? The card I made last night that I got from your game was that I needed to remember we are family as my sister sledge and not the pointer sister. You and me both . And then today I was listening to a podcast about a Kel tic deity called Didra and I made a card on that about the Pantheon of Irish slash Celtic deities, which is a tuatha dan or something along those lines? I'm not sure I have a pronunciation anywhere near correct, but that's what it looks like. I make probably , I don't know, maybe two or three a day, most days. And you are so good at this that you have these specialized decks available on your coffee account, right? Right . So I've started offering my decks on coffee at a pay as pay what you want as little as zero dollars . And I've got a number of them. I've got horse racing, triple crown winners, presidential spouses , James Bond deck that I kind of threw together for fun because I mean that level of detail on James Bond is not going to come up very often, but it was kind of have yeah. And I've got a MLB deck up for sale and it's sort of a sneak preview into the monster of a deck that I'm working on which is not only all four major American sp orts but also major league soccer, women's NBA, women's soccer and professional women's hockey league. Wow . So there's cards for the teams, what city they're at, their mascots, how long they've been in the league and things like that. Obviously that comes in handy for people who don't necessarily get their sports organically. You got to learn it somehow, and why not do it with a flashcard deck? What have you been listening to watching , et cetera ? So there's a new Steve Correll show on HBO called Rooster. That's pretty good. Yep. Also on HBO is a show called Sort of it's sort of a gender qu eer friends getting together and opening a club and it's dramatic as well as as funny in sort of a British humor sort of way. You know, it's just it's not real in your face, you know , which I appreciate . And yeah, other than that, just the new season of Taskmaster, the new season of the floor, that kind of thing. Cum Nanjani and the new season of sorry, series of series . Yes , yes. Yeah, really good season so far. Yeah, I really appreciate how they put them up on YouTube just on their own channel. And yeah, it's not something that I have to go around laws and restrictions for they nicely make it available. Yeah, it's a smart play. Smart play. Yeah . Well, Ian, are you ready to make your game? I am. As Blake would say, let's go. Let's go. You are going to start your game where brand on Fellows left off with this question . They've also operated a separate museum in Iowa since twenty ten, but you can find the John Vaugh Hall of Honors, the Paul K. Scott Museum, and the Cliff Kean Theeater at what sports official National Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma ? National Halls of Fame are a good thing to flashcart and this one is wrestling. This one is wrestling not wrestling , wrestling? You're off to a good start. One point and you have these tangents to pick from museums, sports, halls of fame, or Oklahoma. Well, as we've been talking about, I'm not great at sports. I've never been to Oklahoma . So that leaves halls of fame in museums. Let's go with museums. Go museums, okay? On exhibit at the British Museum since just after its discovery in seventeen ninety nine, what seventeen hundred pound artifact was the focus of Richard Parkinson's nineteen ninety nine book cracking codes? I'm assuming that's not seventeen pounds sterling, I think it's weight. So this looks a lot like the Rosetta Stone . So that's what I'll go with. Rosetta Stone. Gonna go Rosetta Stone. It is the Rosetta Stone. Yeah. Your second point and to get you these tangents, museums , the seventeen hundreds , codes , or nineteen nineties books. Codes sounds really kind of nerdy, so let's go with that. Nerdy, it is. Here we go with codes . From the Greek for signbearer . What nine letter word describes the visual code conveyed through the use of flags? That would be semophore. Would be semaphore and that gets you your third point and these tangents codes , Greek , words, or wild card . Well, I took an etymology class in high school, so Greek might be good , but I do like codes. Let's go with that still yeah. Let's stick with codes . Depicted by an A list actor in a two thousand eight film, Klaus von Stuffenberg was among the German Army officers who failed to assassinate Adolf Hitler in an operation given what code name? Okay , so you know how coincidences come up in trivial all the time? You'll have a question learned league and then three days later you'll see B Shrevi or something like that. Often too late this time this time not too late . So I realized that I never saw the last season or two of the Highlander TV series. So I've been watching that on Pluto. And just today I saw an episode called Valkyrie and it was, you know, McLeod was had a flashback to this actual attempt on Hitler's life. And this is Valkyrie. Yeah. There was also a movie called Valkyrie with Tom Cruise. Yep. Tom Cruise . That is your fourth point and get you these tangents . two thousands films , Germany , failure or codes So I know a little German. He's sitting right over there. Sorry as a movie reference for those of you who've never seen it . Top secret with Val Kelmer . Failure looks interesting, but I'm going to stick with codes. Stick with codes, your third in codes . You might see patches or stickers that read support eighty one , root eighty one , or just a diamond with eighty one in the middle , representing the numerically coded nickname associated with What Club founded in Fontana, California in nineteen forty eight Oof . Okay numerically coded nickname associated with what club patches or stickers . Why would somebody have a p ? Yeah, I don't know this right off so I got to pull it apart a little bit . Six months later Patches making me think like motorcycle clubs and wondering if this is Hell's Angels . Don't know where they were founded. nineteen forty eight , I can see a bunch of guys coming back from WW two, getting into motorcycles and such . Um , I think I'm gonna go with Hell's Angels. Gonna go with Hell's Angels. Numerically coded nickname almost like a numeric cipher because the eighth letter of the alphabet is H and the first letter of the alphabet is A as in HA , as in Hell's Angels. All right, excellent. You didn't figure out the code, but you did figure out the answer, and that's all that matters, right? Doesn't matter how you get there. It doesn't matter how you get there as long as you get there. Your fifth point without a miss and it gives you these tangents. The eighties , now that is not about the nineteen eighties, like this was about the number eighty one, that's about other numbers from the eighties . Codes , numbers or wildcard. I seem to be doing okay with codes, so let's go with that. More codes, and it happens to be one from that eighties category. So you get another one of those too. The exact history is unclear, but jargon used by diner employees and soda jerks of the nineteen thirt ies included numeric codes like thirteen for when the boss was around, ninety five for a customer leaving without paying, and what number for when a menu item was no longer available? Yeah, so the eighty six something is to throw it away or finality of some sort . So let's go with eighty six . Go with eighty six . It is eighty six. Yeah, nice work . eighty six gives you your sixth point very sibilant . As you see on screen there, you're out of codes, you kill the category, but you do still have the eighties , slang , or wildcard. eighties might be nice. You know, there's only ten of them yeah, why not? Let's do eighties. Oh, the eighties. Okay, there are three of these left and you, get this one. What number is represented by the total number of keys on a standard piano and a model of car produced and sold by Oldsmobile from nineteen forty nine to nineteen ninety nine? I have known the number of keys on a standard piano since watching that episode of the Flintstones when Fred wants to get Wilma a piano. Wow. This is eighty eight. It is eighty eight. Yeah. Thank you, Flintstones. Seven points now with no miss es and these tangents the eighties , numbers in general , cars or wildcard. Well, we've knocked two of the eighties out with eighty six and eighty eight. So let's stick with the eighties. eighties it is. What hardware and building supply company with more than two hundred and fifty stores around the US got its name from the unusual name of the Pittsburgh suburb where it was founded in nineteen fifty six ? Uh oh. Um, oh I don't I don't know this. Um , Paul McLaughlin, where are you when I need you? You're right . There's something in the back of my head . I can almost picture a sign that says eighty something lumber . What's the second number? eighty . So it's not eighty one . It's not eighty six , it's not eighty eight . eighty lumber . eighty two lumber , eighty three lumber , eighty four . eighty four lumber . Let's go with eighty four lumber. Gonna go with eighty four . You seem to pause there when you started marching through the numbers. When you got to eighty four, you were like, that tickled something in there. There is a town near Pittsburgh called eighty four, Pennsylvania. Oh yes. That is correct. eighty four lumber. Okay , is that place? And eighty four Lumber gets you your eighth point and it gets you these tangents . The eighties companies Pennsylvania or Wildcard . Okay , so a brother lives in Pennsylvania . Hey Sean, if you're listening to this? Hey, Sean. But I've already knocked out a few of the eighties . So there's fewer answers to pick from. Let's go with the eighties kit. Killing another category here . What number represents a full season of games in the NBA and NHL and the number of games a major league baseball team needs to win to ensure a winning season? Dang it, it's a sports question All right, so I've got left eighty, eighty two, eighty three , eighty five , eighty seven and eighty eight and eighty nine . Again , something is tickling in the back of my brain and it's not as strong as the eighty four lumber. So I might be way off base, but I want to say eighty three . I'm going to say eighty three Yeah . Okay. We haven't used eighty three yet, have we? Haven't used eighty three yet, but we also haven't used eighty two eighty two eighty two games in a full NBA or NHL regular season and there are one hundred and sixty two games in a major league baseball season. So to be sure that you're over five hundred you need to win that eighty second game. Flashcards will be made. Flash cards will be made . So that is your first miss , but you do have these tangents left . Numbers , sports or wild card Numbers, sports or wild card. Let's go with numbers got me in this place , so let's just continue with numbers . Numbers it is . A white volkswagen beetle decked out with racing stripes in the number fifty three was the title character in what nineteen sixty eight comedy based on the Gordon Buford short story, car boy girl . I think the title was Herbie the Love Bug. Herbie the love bug, it is, or just the love bug, but yeah, excellent. That is your ninth point and it gets you these tangents . Cars , numbers , nineteen sixties films, or wildcard Can I reset? You can, if you want to.. Yes, please Resetting the board then to your categories, and you only gave me two this time out. You went with Pink Floyd or Star Trek. Let's go with Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd. Okay, here we go. Large inflatable balloons in the sh ape of what creatures are common sights above the crowd at Pink Floyd concerts as a nod to the cover of their album Animals . So funny little anecdote that balloon on the cover , that's an actual ballo and it was huge and it broke loose on the second day of shooting for that photo and flights at Heathrow had to be redirected. Wow. Yeah. The first day they had a sniper there just in case and ended up not liking the photos once they got back to the to the dark room and everything. And so they said, Okay, well let's go back out there tomorrow, but nobody told the sniper. And so it got loose the second day. This is a pig. It is a pig . Yeah . Pigs get you to ten points. Excellent. And it gets you these tangents. Pink Floyd, animals , concerts , or albums. I mean, it's my specialty subject, so we've got to keep going with Pink Floyd . Pink Floyd it is. Next one up is this In two thousand five, Pink Floyd reunited one last time, one last time in quotes. Performing together in Hyde Park London for what benefit concert organized by Bob Geldolf, the star of the nineteen seventy nine film The Wall I want to say it was live aid , final answer Live Aid, final answer. Live eight was actually earlier than that. This one though, was called Live eight . Live eight. Live eight. So close. You're very close. It sounds the same. If you had maybe pronounced that less distinctly That is your second miss Ouch But it gets you these tangents, pink Floyd, two thousand s, concerts or nineteen seventies films . Let's stick with Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd it is . Passing away in twenty twenty five, stunt man Ronnie Rondell Jr. lived to the ripe old age of eighty eight despite death defying feats over in a hundred films, dozens of TV shows , and even the cover of what nineteen seventy five pink Floyd album where he's calmly shaking hands while covered in flames. There's one of those eighties again . Yeah . This is the cover of Wish You Were Here . Yeah, it is Wish You Were Here. Yeah, Wish You were here, get your eleventh point and these tangents. Pink Floyd , albums , nineteen se venties music, or wildcard. Let's stick with Pink Floyd. Stick in with pink . What English drummer was one of the founding members of Pink Floyd in nineteen sixty five ? And as the only constant presence in the band's lineup also pinned the memoir Inside Out, a personal history of Pink Floyd in two thousand four. I bet you have this book . That's what I was just looking for . You saw me start looking up on my shelf here, didn't you? What might be it? I don't it might be upstairs . What might be it is right there and it's not spying towards me so I'm not cheating . Not that I would get this wrong, but this is Nick Mason . This is Nick Mason , yes . And let's see Yeah , there it is right there. Not a big. There it is right there. Yeah, the inside out . I knew you would have that . Nick Mason Gits in his twelfth point and these tangents . Pink Floyd one more time . two thousands books, nineteen sixty's music , or wildcard. Let's hit all five, Pink Floyd. All five, Areas Pink Floyd . Pink Floyd's second concert film had the band performing live in nineteen seventy two in an amphitheater surrounded by the ancient ruins of what city that another British band Bastille would record about years later. This is an absolutely awesome film and I've actually gotten to see this on the big screen because my spouse works for the University of Vermont and one of the perks at least used to be, I don't know if they still do it since COVID. It used to be that any staff member could just rent out one of the presentation halls . So we got this on DVD , we got this. I had it on DVD and it was myself and my spouse and three or four of our friends. And we had the entire theater to ourselves. Yeah , this is live at Pompeii. It sure is, yeah, Pompeii . And Pompeii gets you to thirteen points. Sadly though , that kills both concerts and pink Floyd and leaves you only with nineteen seventy's music or twenty ten's music. twenty ten's music I'm not great at, as you know from your stream. So let's go in nineteen seventies music. Seventies music . Ian, you're not gonna believe the luck of your timing on this one Songwriter Hoyd Axton originally described his good friend Jeremiah as a prophet, but had to turn him into a bullfrog before what band agreed to record his song Joy to the World in nineteen seventy. Wow, does this question look familiar? It's almost like you played this question last night on my live stream . Almost. Yeah, this is three dog night. I was hoping you would remember it. Oh, yeah. I knew it last night. I know it tonight. Yeah, yeah. Let's see if I run across tomor itrow. Yeah, exactly. Then is your fourteenth point and three Dog Knight gets you these tangents. nineteen seventies music, riders , frogs , or wildcard . All right, seventies music I'm okay at writers okay Frogs might be okay but let's throw caution to the wind and go with wild card. Going wildcard . Who knows? Who knows? We'll find out . Here we go . You chose wildcard you get a sports question . Kickers, punters, holders, gunners , jammers, and returners are some of the positions involved with American football that typically fall under what two word description ? Oh , I think I might know this. Oh wow. Yeah, I think this is special teams. Ian , it is special teams. I got a question . Yeah . Wow. You survived the wildcard. And that's your fifteenth point in get you these t angents. Microsoft inside, you might notice that Teams is a product by Microsoft . So those are all answers that have some Microsoft product hidden in there somewhere , sports , jobs or wildcard. So the Microsoft inside could be in the question or the answer. It'll just be in the answer. That is tempting because I'm forced to work with Microsoft Products on the daily. You do work in IT support every day. Yeah . Yeah. Um , I dislike Microsoft though. Uh , let's go with jobs. Go with jobs. Okay . Some guy named Todd Blanche has the job now, at least temporarily , but it was a former Virginia Governor named Edmund Randolph, who became the first person to hold what position in seventeen eighty nine. Todd Blanche . Why have I heard that name ? Somebody got ousted from their position the other day if I'm remembering the news item correctly . I think this is attorney general. Yeah, after Pam Bondi got the boot , some guy named Todd Blanche is the new acting US attorney general. That is your sixteenth point. In get you these tangents first , jobs, government or the seventeen hundreds . Let's go with first Going with first , okay . Dat Fan was the first winner in two thousand three, and twelve years later, Clayton English was the last winner on what competitive reality series . Well, it was nice playing tonight. Dat Fan was the first winner in two thousand three and twelve years later Clayton English was the last winner . Reality TV is just not something that I watch . Great British Bake Off That's one of the few that I watch as well as Forged in Fire . They're about the only two where everybody's not screaming at each other . I don't know if the biggest loser ran for that long or when it started or anything . I don't even know if it's still on. I don't think it is. I haven't heard about it in years . This is just it's picking reality series off a hat pretty much. I honestly don't know. I'll just go with the biggest loser . Biggest loser . Dad fan, I think, beat Ralphie May in the first season of last comic standing. Remember that? Hm , maybe not. I've heard of it, but I don't know if I've ever seen it. So yeah, even that your third miss, but we're not done yet. Let's end on a good note, shall we? Yes, please. You killed Pink Floyd, but we do have Star Trek left if you want to do that. Yes, let's do some Star Trek . What five letter word appears in James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake, Armin Schimmerman's character in the Star Trek universe, and in the name of the elementary particle theorized by Murray Gill Mann and George Weeg in nineteen sixty four. So I actually know that from all three angles. This is Quark . It is Quark. Again, we ended a good note. Yes, we did. Hope you had a good time. I had an excellent time. Always great to have you. Anything want to shout out to Plug before we say goodbye? Yeah, if you want to go to my coffee store and get some flashcards that'd be cool. I'm sure Russell put the link in the show notes. Go ahead and shout it off of you. If you know it off the top your head, I want to see if you know it. I want to say it's coffee com dot slash Ian Scholzi. We'll find out. We'll find out if that's not it . Yeah. I was just copying paste it everywhere. I don't I will put the correct one in the show notes. All right. Otherwise, be excellent to each other. Indeed. Thanks, Ian. I'll see you again soon. Thanks for us. This is Tangents This is Alyssa Bonjour playing from Bloomington, Illinois. I work in the beverage alcohol space. I'm an analyst and the specialty subjects I'm looking for are Ted Lasso, boy bands and any type of word play categories . I was looking up the other day when the first time we met was and it was nine years ago. Yeah . You filled in for me at a place called Maui's Q. Yeah. It was a pool hall that did trivia for a short while. And then I think after that I was at the Yacht Club in Springfield for a summer. Yep. Yeah. The good old days, back in the back in the olden days. You let me write a category to announce the gender of my second or well, my third kid. So yeah, wasn't that fun? It was fun. That was a different time It really was. That was pre COVID, pre everything really. You don't host anymore ? I don't, I don't. And I very rarely play in person . It's the stage of life I'm in. The aforementioned children . Yeah To us all. But you do still help out with like the annual trivia bowl that happens every November. I do. I score keep. That's my one like some people have a hall pass. I have my get out of the house pass . I've helped every year except for one and that was the year that I ended up planning my wedding on the same day as Tribal. Yeah, don't do that anymore. No , I am too old to do this again. This is the only one. Yeah What are you looking forward to? I'm looking forward to just kind of being a sidelines mom for the summer . Sitting there yelling at baseball and soccer games . Only encouraging things . Exactly. Yeah , no just being busy. I am in the taxi stage of life. So that's kind of what I have to look forward to right now. Good times. Good time for the gas prices to be where they are tax y season, right? Oh, good time for you. What do you recommend ? Season four Tlas was coming up this summer . They just released a trailer this week. So I highly recommend if you haven't watched seasons one through three multiple times then go back and do that. This is like our bonus season. Every title fan is prepared for season three finale to be this series finale . And I as someone who's watched it as many times as I have and it's like my comfort show and that I know what I'm getting every single time I meant but I also still learn something new that I miss the first few times . I have mixed feelings on a fourth season. Yeah. Because I felt like it ended well . It doesn' seemted like a perfect ending to me. Exactly. And I was okay with the season four if it wasn't actually Ted , but him going back to London feels weird to me, but really does. I also have faith in Bill Lawrence . So that's probably my other recommendation is if you haven't gotten to shrinking, watch shrinking. Shrinking, Rooster. We just started Rooster . And then go back and if you can find Cougar town, watch Cougartown, it was really good too. Lawrence, right? No, and I haven't started on the scrubs reboot. I plan to do that in like a chunk and I haven't had time to sit down and do that. I think the consensus is this might be the best of all the reboots. Yeah, probably . I think we're we're in for a good one there. So the whole Dillawrence and then the whole like Christa Miller is the music supervis or. That whole lore and story is amazing and they're just one of those people that flew under the radar for so long and now I'm glad they're having their moment. Krista Miller on Shrinking too. Yes. Yeah, it's a great time to be a Bill Lawrence f an. It is. So yeah, get out there and see those things if you haven't already. Please do. And then we can talk about 'em. Yeah, of course. I didn't ask Ian this last time and I don't know why, but what is a question I should ask the next player? I feel like I don't remember who, but they stole mine. As I was listening, it would've been What is your walk up song? That's a great one. Yeah , it was everything about that episode was good. What would be your probably have to change every game just because I'm so like but initially for like a home opener it have to be like man I feel like a woman like I feel like it has to start with the let's go girls. Let's go girls. But no, if I had a question, I think it would be like what book or movie character do you most identify with? Yeah, that's a good one. And what would your answer be? Aspirationally, I wanted to be Liz from Shrinking Going back to the Krista Miller, like if I can embody that type of mom, then I'm good to go with my life and friend . But like, more so in who's like shaped me , it's probably Matilda, honestly enough . Reading books taking down the system . That should be life goals for everyone, right? Exactly right. Fittingly, Matilda, yeah, love it. Yeah, why not? Transitionally, I have to ask , and I know the answer, but where do you quiz ? I sometimes quiz with you on Sunday nights. Eight o'clock is bedtime. So we have any iteration of the kids don't have school on Monday is our team name. Until it's summer and then it's Bunge or Summer vacation. It is, except for one point in time in your database, we had like three of them. It was like summer vacation, Thanksgiving vacation. And I was like, well, what are we doing today? And the new form, it's just, I think the Bondor kids don't have school tomorrow. And then in person, I don't quiz much every once in a while. I'll hit something here in town . We've got Twin City trivia pretty much every night of the week. Like, yeah, no, I don't really do much of anything as far as like actively trivia ing. This is officially my second podcast reporting now . So I've just been listening to podcasts kind of lurking in the background, becoming a little bit more active as my kids get a little bit older and I can carve out a little bit of free time . So hoping to get a little bit more active and back into it. What was the first podcast? I'd adultin's, like, I scheduled his when we tried this beginning of show. Thanks for listening everybody. I will leave you in the beginning of Dalton's. I was like, don't tell Russ ia. But no, I scheduled yours first and then we had the technical difficulties , but I scandled Dalton's in that same amount of time. And so yeah so I did his first . But I don't know when your release schedule is, so maybe this release is first and you 're gonna hurry up and release this first, yeah, no doubt. All right. Speaking of trivia, Alyssa, are you ready to make your game? I guess so. Okay We're going to start your game where Ian left off with this question . Dat Fan was the first winner in two thousand three and twelve years later, Clayton English was the last winner on what competitive reality series ? This is Last Comic Standing. It is. And that is your first point of the game, and you have these tangents , last comedy , first or reality TV. I think I'm gonna take reality TV. All right, here we go. Your first question in reality TV is this three years before her name showed up in the forty year old Virgin, what then unknown singer became the first ever American Idol winner in two thousand two. That would be Kelly Clarkson? That would be Kelly Clarkson. Kelly Clarkson. He did that on her talk show when they were promoting Rooster. Really? Just as a weird tie bag clip of that. Yeah, for sure. That is your second point. I'm going to get you these tangents. Two thousands films, two thousands TV , reality TV , or singers? Okay , this was like my nightmare scenario here. I know. Like, I'm not afraid of not knowing like not having an in to a question. I'm afraid of having too many and I feel fairly strongly about all four of these and that's the problem. Especially since the end to two thousand films was from Justin De Kelly, which I might be one of the only people on Earth that still owns that movie on DVD. But I'm gonna stick with reality TV. Okay, I know next up here we know. Next up in reality TV , figure skater Christi Yamaguchi used some unfortunate phrasing in twenty seventeen when she tweeted a supportive break a leg to what dancing with the stars contestant . I believe that's Nancy Carriagan, even though I don't remember her being on dancing with the Stars, but makes sense . It was indeed Nancy Carrigan. Yeah, she was on. She didn't win, but she was on. That's your third point, and to get you these tangents . Olympics , athletes , then Inetter ity Real TV . Am I reality TV again? Okay , next one up is this . Designer Hillary Farr and real estate agent David Visenton are the hosts of one HGTV show that moved its shooting location from Toronto to North Carolina in twenty fourteen. Okay , so the only real exposure I have to HGATV is like doctors offices and when it plays in the background . So we're gonna flip a coin and I'm gonna say this is love it or list it. Love it or list it is what you're going with. It is love it or list it, yes, nice job. All right, that is your fourth point . And you have these tangents , fashion , homes , reality TV or wildcard. I will take wild card ple, ase. Wildcard. Shaking it up . Okay . It's the unofficial way to reset your board, isn't it? It really is. It's the easiest way to reset your board. You just never know what's gonna happen. Along with her late husband, Darryl Captain Dragon, Tony Teneil recorded songs like Love will keep us together, it didn't, do that to me one more time , and a nineteen seventy two hit about Suzy and Sam . According to the title of this song , what kind of animal were Susie and Sam The only thing that popped into my head and it's not gonna leave because it popped there too quickly is crocodiles because I'm coming up with crocodile rock but I know that El'tson . And I can't think of any other and I'm not going to do the thing where I'm like, I wasn't even alive then. I shouldn't know this because history exists. I'm going say to crocodil es knowing that that's probably not right and that's just where my brain went. And I'll take the L on this one . Well, you are correct in that was not right . It's Musgrat. Muskrat love the name of the song. Musk grat love singing sam. You're first miss, no big deal. I'm okay taking a nell on Muskrat Love. Lots of people would take an ell on Muskrat Love. That still gives you these tangents , nineteen seventies music , famous duos , love or wildcard. I'm gonna go with love . Choose love , I think, is the , you want to go there? Yeah, choose love . The nineteen ninety three tear jerker Untamed Heart starred Marissa Tome as a young waitress who falls in love with a bus boy with a heart defect played by What Actor? Hondescript nineties white actor I can't say I've seen this one. But you know what? I'm gonna reset the board on this. You gonna reset the board? Okay. Yes, please. By the way, the answer here was Christian Slater . Okay, non descript white nineties actor. Yeah, got it . Exactly. All right, resetting the board though to your tangents . Boy bands, Ted Lasso , and you requested one of the word play rounds in, this case , you've gotten there's a shoe in your answer where all the answers contain the name of shoe, a type of shoe. Okay , how do I sit here and talk about Bill Lawrence for five minutes in the pre show and not pick Ted Lasso . Yeah . So I'll take Ted Lasso . Okay, Ted Lasso , and here we go. Eagle eyed fans of Ted Lasso noticed that the three autographed photos hanging in Roy Kent's favorite kebab shop were Roy himself, Marcus Mumford who performs the show's theme song , and what uncle of Jason Sudekis in a promotional photo from his days on cheers . That would be George Wint That would be George Went, RIP, George . Norm . I do have to say I was very, very happy that it was Mumford again for season four. Yeah, me too. That is your fifth point, by the way. And it gets you these tangents . Famous relatives , Ted Lasso , theme songs, or nineteen eighties TV . I'm at a look at this and I'm gonna regret every choice I'm about to make, but can you give me a famous relatives please? Really? Yeah, okay. We're leaving Ted. I know. Wow, this is really a surprise. I know. Awesome. Sorry speaking of famous relatives. Yeah, I was practicing for Mother's Day in hiding and they found me. Yeah, you've been found alright, famous relatives it is . And here it is. Not only was he nearly chanting T atum's father in law, but because his mom was Jefferson's actress Roxy Roker, what grammy winning singer songwriter and hunger games actor is a third cousin of Al Roker. That would be Lenny Krabbitz That would be Lenny Kravitz . And that gets you your sixth point and it gets you these tangents , famous relatives , Grammys , actors or singers. I will take famous relatives , please. This feels like an immersive experience. This is what my Sunday nights are like. Yeah, indeed. Famous relatives it is since his mom is rocky actress Talia Schire, the sister of Fran Fourcis Copola, what R ushmore actor is first cousin to both Sophia Coppola and Nicholas Cage . This would be Jason Schortmith. I was just gonna say Schwartzmann , but he's got a brother who is a lead singer of a band or something and he was the I think he was the kid in the first princess diaries. I think he was a Schwartzmann . If I remember correctly. TIO for me. Do you know that Jackson Schwartzman was the drummer for Fantom Planet. Yes, I did. Okay, dang it. So I learned this week , or maybe it was last week, that Jason Schwartzmann, Aubrey Plaza, and Nick Offerman have a text and they only text once a year because they share a birthday . And so they text like these really random like Amory Plaza, Nick Offerman, Jason Schwartzman type quotes to each other on their shared birthday. Wow. I have the same thing going with Taylor Swift and Dick Van Dyke. As you should. Yeah, it's crazy. That by the way is your seventh point , and it gets you these tangents. Famous relatives, nineteen seventies films, two thousands films , or Wildcard It's going to be famous relatives again. It's going to be famous relatives again. Here is your next one . Law and Order SVU actress Marisca Hargate is the daughter of actor Mickey Harg atay and what actress who came to be known as the Workin' Man's Monroe ? It's Jane Mansfield. It is Jane Mansfield. And a recommendation within the show is watched my mother Jane. My mother Jane. Yes. It was so good. What was that on? What streaming service was that on? HBO Max. HBO Max, okay? Yeah. There's I mean, there's trivia within that family that Yeah. Like you could do a whole category on that family. It's insan e. I might stay tuned. All right, that's your eighth point. Ten to get you these tangents, famous relatives. There is one left . In that category? Actresses , nicknames, or wild card. Give me famous relatives again. We'll take it off. You're killing the category . Before songs like Espresso and Please Please Please made her a household name, what singer said in a twenty twenty one interview that her dad's sister Nancy, C artwright , used to get them good tables at restaurants by using her Bart Simpson voice. That would be Sabrina Carpenter. That would be Sabrina Carpenter, and that is your ninth point , unfortunately, you killed famous relatives, but you still have these tangents. twenty twenty's music, interviews or the Simpsons . We are going to go , I am going to be one of the people that doesn't use Simpsons . So I know next to nothing about the Simpsons, so I'm going to save that for other people . This is Yes, I am being philanthropic here . I think I will take twenty twenty's music and prove how old I am and not know this first question. It'll be fine. Well, we'll see. You never know. In his sixty first and final studio album, a twenty twenty one collaboration with Lady Gaga titled Love for Sale, earn What singer The Guinness Record is the oldest person to release an album of new material at ninety five years in sixty days . I believe that was Tony Bennett . It was Tony Bennett , yeah . That gets you to double digits. You are at ten points now , and you survive twenty twenty's music and get these tangents records not like the music records. This is a Guinness Record type category. Albums , collaborators or twenty twenty's music . I'm going to go with collaborators . You sound very sure about that . I'm not this is another I'm like, is that the right choice or isn't this okay? This choice could be the one that keeps me up for the rest of the week. I for the rest of the week. I mean, come on, no, I'll take collaborators. That's fine. Collaborators, it is. You manage double digits That is most people's school. Mine on the other . This is my baseline. I mean, I can go right back in and sign up tomorrow and then have a new goal, but my number one goal for the first one was not to make you use the explicit tag. So well, you're doing so well, so far. Here we go . What youngest ever guest host on Saturday Night Live starred as Adam Sandler's romantic interest in three different films in nineteen ninety eight , two thousand four , and twenty fourteen . I believe that is Drew Barrymore. It is Drew Barrymore, of course Gastosa at San Le when she was playing after playing Gerdy ET and then the wedding singer fifty, first dates and remember the third one? Hold on . You said that and I'm like, now I don't. No . One word title, blended . Oh, okay, yes. I always think that's the one with him and Jennifer Aniston, but it's not. Drew anymore. Yeah. The other way my brain was going with that is like, if it's youngest, then it could be Jodie Foster or Tayda Meal. And I'm like, yeah, neither of those would have been in an absolute movie against eleven interest . So yeah, exactly. Process of elimination on that one right. See, that's the way to do it. That's the way to do it. Do the math. Yeah. Exactly. That gets you to eleven points and gets you these tangents with just one miss. Adam Sandler , SNL , records or collaborators. Collaborators again, please. Stick with collaborators. Okay . Which former member of Buffalo Spring field and Poco teamed up with Kenny Logins for seventies classics like Danny Song, Your Mama Don't Dance, and House at Poo Corner ? Jeopardy Rules, right? Sure, yes, yes. 'Cause I'm not sure I'd ever know this guy's name like his first name, but I believe his last name's Messina. If you know that those songs are credited as Loggins and Messina, then yeah. Messina, Jim Messina is the guy's name. Future reference. Fairly fortunate it wasn't Jodie, but like that was Messina I knew it was not Jo D Messina . I'm like, I could have given you not Jodie like but I would have never known his first name was Jim. That gets you to twelve points and it gets you these tangents, nineteen seventies music, yacht rock , collaborators, or wildcard. As much as I would love to go down Yacht Rock because I would like to see why you've written there because I think that would be awesome . I'll take collaborators again, please. Going collaborators, okay. From nineteen forty one to nineteen fifty nine, Carrie Grant and Jimmy Stewart each starred in four different films by Watt Director. The only thing that's coming to my mind and again, I don't think it's right in any way shape or form, but I don't know how to get it out of there is hitchcock. Well, whose first name is Alfred. I do know that . But yeah, I think I'm gonna say Alfred Hitchcock and just take my second miss on that one. You are incorrect . You will not be taking your second one.. Okay Consent is Alfred Hitchcock. Yes. Nice job Hitchcock. I could only think of two Jimmy Stewart movies that Hitchcock did, so that was part of it. Hey, as long as you can think of two, you're there . Thirteen points now, and you have these tangents, nineteen forties films , actors, directors , or collaborators. I am not going to take directors, but could you give me collaborators? Can you give me collaborators again, please? I will give you collaborators again What actress starred alongside Rock Hudson in Romantic Comedy's Pillow Talk, Love Come Back, and Send Me No Flowers . Okay , I have two options floating in my head. So this gonna be a coin flip situation . Both are blonde, that helps . I don't believe it does. I'm gonna go with Doris Day . I'm gonna go Doris Day, also very good friends at the end of his life. That'd be fun. . Yeah . Doris day gives you fourteen points , just one miss , and these tangents . Actresses , collaborators , nineteen sixty's films or wildcard. They make collaborators for the last time . For now . You can always come back to it if you find a way to get back to it, but here's the last one for now. Originally developed in cooperation with Toshiba , what media player was produced by Microsoft from two thousand six until it was discontinued in twenty twelve . What was that called ? Which is why you're asking this question. I'm asking you that. I know . It was the iPod thing and if you weren't pointedly asking me, I could tell you what it was called. But because you're pointedly asking me, I am not going to do that . Not the iPod . I'm going to call it I'm gonna call We're rebrand again though. I am I have no idea it started with a weird letter too. It's a zoom. It's a Microsoft Zoom. Wow . Yes . Wow. So it was the brain going, it started with a weird letter. Yeah, and I thought it was a W and then all of a sudden the Z popped into my head, but no , I was trying to figure out a good way to get like a portable music player for my kids because we don't have like that's not something that exists in the world unless you get like an old iPhone or something . But yeah that was fun. Zoom it is. Yeah . All right . That gets you your fifteenth point and these tangents failure , products and two thousands . Um, I will take the two thousands, please. two thousands it is . Kevin Beckin got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in two thousand three , the same year the same year he starred in What Clint Eastwood Directed Crime Drama that earned Oscars for co stars Sean Penn and Tim Robins on. That would be Mystic River . That would be Mystic River . Mystic River gets you sixteen points in these tangents. Kevin Bacon , Hollywood , the two thousands, or Oscars . I will take , I really want to see the Kevin Bacon question . I'll take two thousands though, please. two thousands. Here it is. I heaven on another one that I listened to. I don't remember which episode it was, but one of the categories popped up and I was like, I wanna know what he wrote, what question he wrote for that, but I don't remember, but now I don't remember because like I turned off the podcast and at last and so I was like, I need to go back and relisten. So when you're like, why is a psycho relistening to all my episodes again? You'll know.ine, F fine. Relisting them all you want . Here is your question in two thousands . Carrie Walsh is half of the most successful beach volleyball duo in history winning Olympic golds in two thousand four, two thousand eight and twenty twelve , along with what longtime teammates ? I believe in two thousand four and two thousand eight , she was just Misty May, but then by twenty twelve , she was Misty May Trainer. That is very thoroughly answered. I have Misty May and then I have Misty May Trainer in parentheses. Yes. It's almost like Russ taught me how to write questions . Most weird . That gets you to seventeen points and gets you these tangents. Sports , Olympics , the two thousands, or teamwork. Who ? Because I like where that came from , but I also know it's tangents. It is tangents, that's right . Um , give me teamwork . Teamwork. There are only two left in this category by the way. It's what I figure. But get this. But I like it . Team of rivals is a two thousand five book by Pulitzer Prize winning historian Doris Kerns' Goodwin about the cabinet of what American president . I don't have a good way. I mean, I have I have what my brain is thinking is good context for all of this , but I don't know if it's or not . So my brain is going, it could either be Lincoln because of the Civil War and that kind of stuff , or it could be Washington because it's Washington. And we've all seen Hamilton at this point in time , so we know how that all happened . You know what? I'm going to say , surprisingly enough, being what sixty miles from the Lincoln Museum , I wouldn't say Lincoln is the strongest president and there's not any outs out of that if it is Lincoln. So I'm going to go with Washington hoping that the next category brings me something to Hamilton and then we can just go down the line uel Miranda of it. So this is going to be a choose my own adventure and if I'm choosing I'm choosing Washington. So give me George Washington please. You're choosing Washington . It is the wrong guess . If I was going to give you a hint, I would have said that Doris Kern's good win was in Springfield to do research for this book. Okay that makes sense. It's Lincoln . It is Lincoln . And I actually wrote that question for a trivia night at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Libr ary Museum . So I'm actually really okay with this because I was on the right track , but I took I took a different exit ramp because I wanted it to go a different way. So you took the ramp for the sake of the game. Correct. And I like that. Yeah, I like that approach. It is sadly your second miss, so you're playing this game perfectly from here on out. Or not. Or not done in seventeen, and it is what it is . Seventeen points is still pretty good . Your tangents based on that. Two thousands books, rivals , presidents, or teamwork. Because you said there were only two questions in teamwork, I'm gonna take teamwork again. Kill it. Hopefully, hopefully I kill it with fire and it doesn't kill me. We'll see . It's not mentioned a single time in Mark Bowl's screenplay for Zero Dark thirty. But what three word unofficial named for the Naval Special Warfare Development Group or Dev Gru was in the news so much after the twenty eleven raid on Osama bin Laden's compound that Disney attempted to trademark it. They were unsuccessful by the way . I believe that is Seal Team six . You believe that is Seal Team six , and you are correct . It is Seal Team six . And that unfortunately kills teamwork , but it gets you eighteen points and it does leave you with these very different tangents military , Disney or trademarks. I'll take Disney , please. Disney, it is . Before his first major film role in holes , Shya Le Buff got his big break playing a mischievous kid named Lewis on What Disney Channel series from two thousand to two thousand three . This is one of the things that I read the question and then you started talking and it left my brain. But it's Christie Carlson, my mono and the kid was named the other kid's name was Beans . The dad, I believe was, in nope , nope. The dad from Revenge of the Nerds was on Lizzie McGuire. RIP Robert Cerden. Yes , what is it called? Now the only thing in my head is sister sister and I'm gonna be so mad when this is the question I go out on . Shia Buff was in even Stevens. Oh , is even Stevens . There it is. I love when that happens. Yeah . And you gotta get it out of your mouth so fast because otherwise you'll forget it again. And here we go yeah . Even Stevens is the one that gets you to nineteen points and it gets you to these tangents . Rhymes because Evan and Steven kind of rhyme debuts , actors or Disney . I'm going to take Disney again . Next up in Disney , kind of tangentially Disney anyway . Political donkey, William and Kate , nineteen eighty two World's Fair Astronaut , and Mickey Mouse parentheses soft head are some of the most valuable model s among enthusiasts and collectors of WAT product first patented in nineteen fifty two The thing is popping in my brain, but I don't know if they've been around that long. I'm gonna guess the funko pop because again, I don't know what else it would be. Like it's not of all the collectibles and things that I know of in my life. I know it's not a beanie baby . So I'm gonna go with a funko pop. Going with funko pop. The right answer, Pez answer. Oh, it makes sense. I have about a hundred of those downstairs in the base. Really? You are a collector. My son is , my eight year old has literally everything, so I didn't realize there was there was a William and Kate one. Yeah, it's out there for you. EBay, check it out. Unfortunatelyly, Assa, that is your third miss with nineteen points . This gives you a clear goal for your second game. I should have known. So the official game is over now, but we are going to end on a good not e. Boy bands Ted Lasso , there's a shoe in your answer. And Vault start, if you really want to get crazy. I'll take boy bands on this one because I haven't touched it yet. You haven't, and this is what you would have seen, had you taken boy bands? What Sydney Australia band with hits like she looks so perfect and young blood rejects the term boy band even though they look and sound like and tour with other boy bands. That would be five seconds of summer . Five seconds of summer, but a bang. You did great. You got to that magic nineteen next time you have a very clear goal. Well too. I got to keep the non explicit streak alive. Right too, exactly. Anything want to shout out or plug before we say goodbye? No just listen to your favorite creators, listen to them twice, get the engagement , the views, the exposure . Support your local businesses . As we mentioned earlier, gas prices are insane. I understand that . But if you've got a favorite spot and you want to stick around, make a point to save a little money and hit them up . As a millennial, all I'm asking the universe for is something precedented this year. It seems like everything we live through is unprecedented. So if we could get back to precedented, that'd be great. Wouldn't something precedented be maxed for a change? . Alyssa so good to see you again and we'll see you again soon. Soon su,mmer's coming up. You'll see us on Sundays. Excellent. Can't wait . I'll give you a moment to crack that beer out that you just took out of Phil. Done and done This is tangents. This is tangents . This is tangents . I'll say it fourteen different ways. How many ways do you need it I needed a drink hang on a second. Me too . After that
