This is Tang My name is Sam Mitchell. I'm playing from Trivia Mecca, Jacksonville, Florida. I'm a PACs administrator during the day and I own my own trivia company at night . I'm looking for Survivor Sport Manteos , movie taglines and two thousand television Sam, last time you were on, I asked you about your favorite places to eat and you had a favorite taco spot. Oh yeah. You kind of knew the name of it except that you only knew that the second part of the name was the Spanish word for five . Taco five, I'll stay by it. Taco five. Same what is tomorrow? Cinco de taco, Cinco de Mayo. Are you sure it's not five oh de Mayo? Do you know what said? The second I said that I regretted it because my best trivia night is at a taco place that I should have said that place. Oh so did they call me out on it one hundred percent. So yeah, yeah. Oof. My favorite place is Tepella Sesaria. There you go. Good job. We're covering that up now. Still have the account, so all is good. Oh yeah, we love each other. Tell everybody that they didn't listen to episode eighty two. Look at that right at the top of the dome. Yeah, I don't know how you knew that. Fill them in on your trivia company. I know it trivia. I know it trivia. It started out of Spite based off of a bigger trivia company here in Jacksonville that I hate. All the best companies are started out of Spite. Yeah, and to be honest now. And we're hovering around eight to ten shows right now. So times are tough, themes are fun. It's just, you know, I blame tariffs for a lot of stuff. Blame a tariff. People aren't coming out because gas prices are high. Okay. No, we have about eight very solid shows and we're in a little bit of a crowded space, so we're just trying to have fun. And here's here's the thing. You ready for this? I was told this week that we have the hardest questions. Now I'm honored by that, but also that's a bad thing. So we got ftaigure that out. Yeah. So there's a sweet spot . There is a sweet and I'm not in it. So I will say the people that come love it. And I think it's just I need those college kids to come. Okay. Here's the thing though. They go away.. I know So you really need the olds . But the thing is, you build your game and after a while enough people will love you. Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, you ready for this? We use app based answer submitting very similar to what you do on Sunday nights, but we do that in person, however, people don't love that. They're the pen and paper and it doesn't matter how green I make my argument of we're trying to save the universe? It is a hill that people will die on. I won't and I don't get it, but whatever. Yeah. Look, I get the pen and paper, but it's literally the exact same thing. I just don't understand. I can understand you being upset about it . I don't understand you not playing because of it. Exactly, yeah. I'm a pen and paper. I'm old. Look at the gray beard . If the option is play with an app or don't play , you play with an app. Playing with an app. Yeah. To be honest, ninety five percent of the people do not care, but it's like those five people it's always the loudest voice. So I did get to yell at a lady last night. She kept yelling out the answers, claiming she didn't know how to use the app . So when that happens, the roasting happens. so And we have a microphone and a speaker that is louder than her and I won that battle. That's all I'm going to say about that. Well, if she won't make that mistake, maybe she won't be back. But she probably won't. That's certainly a bad thing. To be honest, she was a little knee braided. She doesn't even know what's happening. Maybe she won't be back then. Good times. Same, what are you looking forward to? Got, there's a lot of vagueness happening, but if this comes out in two months, I probably still can't say anything , but let's just say the chances of me going on a national game show are very high at this point. And that happens at the end of the month. I can't say anything else. Okay, we can keep that vague. Yeah. Last time you were on, you had already been on a national game show. Y,o I've been on several adoles. It's fine. Listen, they don't really care about it. They really don't. I've learned. Plus, the GHPO thing, does that really count? So that's actually a fun fact. That is the one that got me onto this one. So it counts the recruiter reached out and said, Hey, I think you'd be good at this apply. And so I said, Done. I was in the system so fast. So if that game show is what got you onto this next one, then I can't wait. I've learned through the process. I've been in so many of these interviews at this point that it's second nature, that I honestly don't care if I get it or not because I've lost so many of them like whatever. That if you do everything that they ask with a positive attitude and zero complaints, they will always call you back. And so that's where I'm just like, I'll be whatever like I do not complain. I do not do anything. I just smile and do all the ridiculous things that they ask me to do at work. I can see you going through the double derick obstacle course just to get on TV . The amount of pictures I've sent of myself in different clothes is insane, but I'm like, sure, I will see you a picture of everything I wear of everything . I don't do that. Whatever it takes Whatever it takes for free cash in my pocket, I will do it. Yeah, so sign me up . What is a question you'd like to ask the next player? This one hits home . Somebody made the meanest joke ever to me and I still think about it and I still laugh about it . But it's a good question . What would be the name of your autobiography? That's fantastic. And Sam , you have to answer your own question. Only the title of your autobiography. I'll answer what roommate Peter told me, which I still giggle about Sam Mitchell, my life in a twin bed . Oh , that is so cruel, but so funny. It's so funny and I mean rog ue. If listen, Sam, when you are famous, it's gonna happen eventually. That is definitely the title of your I mean, you have to, right? It's so good . So good. He said I was like, Oh, I couldn't stop laughing. And then the next day I was like, That was really mean . That's so funny . That is really mean, but also a lot of mean things can be funny. I will say I asked that a lot of people just like in a serious way and people come up with some good stuff. It's an interesting little how do you summarize your life in one in one line ? I cannot wait to hear what the next person says. Yeah. That may become just a standard question. Okay . Sound good. What can you recommend? It's one of my subjects right now, but if you're not watching Survivor, I don't know what you're doing. It is the best TV show on television. Still going. Still going.. Season fifty Look, people are like, oh season fifty, but that within itself in today's TV market, that it's very volatile. A show that can last fifty seasons, it's twenty five years in reality is incredible. It's hard to believe. It's been on fifty years. Over seven hundred people have played on it. It's crazy. It's good. And every season seven hundred people. Yeah, a little bit different, but it's all great. I will say that they're doing like a big fiftieth season and a lot of my friends are watching it for the first time and if you are too or if you did, it'll be over by the time this comes out . I will say if you've never watched a season and this is the first one you've chosen, it's like watching Avengers end game without knowing what the MCU is like nothing's gonna make sense . Not a good starting spot. Or it's a fantastic. I don't know. So go back and watch season one. Actually, you can skip season one. You can jump in at like season fifteen. That's where you really need to figure stuff out Okay, season fifteen. Good to know. Yeah. Sam, what's a question you asked last night? Oh, why do you do this to me? The second I ask questions, they immediately leave my brain. Harold Hill? Yeah, music man. What yeah, what was his name in the musical? Harold Hill . Yeah, no . Like, I guess they gave him to me. I don't know. I'm not a music man guy. Here's one that stumped everyone. You'll get it because you're Russ What Sesame Street character shares his name with the patron saint of sailors and abdominal paints? Probably snuffalophagus, right? Do you think there's a saint snuffalophagus? No, but Snuffalophagus's real name is like Aloysius, right? You're right. I know there is a Saint Aloysius. The idea of a saint snuffilophagus makes me giggle. Okay, patron saint of what? Sailors and abdominal pain. Oh, Saint Elmo, of course. Saint Elmo's fire. Saint Elmo. Yeah. I played two different songs. I had two different shows trying to get people to clue. The first one was fool by the cardigans, like because sure. He says, I love you a lot, right? Yeah. And then nobody got that. So I went a little x rated at the late night show and did the vinyls. I touched myself trying to get tickle me elmo there, but it didn't, it didn't help it , it didn't help. Oh , Sam, your musical clues. I try next level stuff. It's that improv game. What's the first thing that you think of? And so we're gonna love it. Fun fact that you learned recently. Oh, I was not prepared for that. Even better. Improv. Improv. Here we go. That Raul Dahl not only was a spy for the British forces, but he was the he wrote the sc reenplay to You Only Live Twice . That is that's true . It is true. You're right. Yes. And also I didn't know that Mr. Dahl was a complete jackass. Yeah. So yeah, yeah I. always pictured him as just like the BFG and he's not Badgen guy. Yeah Tell the people, where do you quit, Sam? Sunday night at trivial workshop . Yeah, yeah. To be honest, that is where I play now. Yeah, that's it. it. Well, I love I love having you in there. Those damn Floridians, I'm a one man show. And look, I finish an eighth consistently and I'm okay with that. Right in the middle of the pack, right in the middle. You come in right after your quiz, I guess, right? I'm coming in hot. I'm usually driving when the first round is going to let's not safe . ten two. I'm not watching. I'm just listening. Just listening. We're okay with that. Yeah. Yeah, we're glad to have you. And if people are in Jacksonville or passing through Jacksonville, where can they see Sam Mitchell? All right, here we go. Sunday nights at the Dart Bar three weeks out of the month, it's a normal trivia and one it's a themed at trivia. Then I am Tuesday nights. I am at Tepez, which is a Bangin show seventy to ninety people every time . And then Thursdays I am at the green room over in Jacks Beach, which is just a lonely not lonely, like a little dive bar, a little brewery, but I could be covering for the Hall of Famer Chris Hollister. The Chris Hollister is out . There's a couple people I if, you know, as the owner of somebody doesn't show up, it's on you. You get to do it. That's right. So any day , really. You could you could see me at any moment . And yeah, you do have the Chris Hollister in your employee. One and only yeah. So if you want to see Chris and you're down there. If you want his phone number, I'm willing to sell it too . Let it sell for the right price. I need some cash, so I'm willing to sell some cash, but a binge. Sam, speaking of trivia, are you ready to make your game? Oh, so ready. We're going to pick your game up where Alyssa left off with this question . Political donkey, William and Kate, nineteen eighty two Worlds Fair Astronaut, and Mickey Mouse Soft Head are some of the most valuable models among the enthusiasts and collectors of what product first patented in nineteen fifty two. Of course that's the PEZ Dispenser Duh. Obviously it's the PEZ Dispenser Duh. Cast two point zero whatever Virgin Roon is looking good so far. I think it's four point zero actually. four point zero. Still make an upd ates pretty much every game so far. So hey, remind me what was my score last time? Let's take a look, shall we? I think it's eighteen. Show previous scores. twenty four. Oh god, okay. S thatand,'s your first point. It was a freebie. No, no, it's not Russ. It's not a first . I worked hard. And that was your first San and that was your first point. Don't disconnect these things. And don't forget, you can reset the board anytime you want. Oh, oh, I know . Don't do it now. I'm big braining it. I could I could do it now. Don't tell me what when to do it, alright here we go. You could do it right now. Your tangents though right now are collections , candy, the nineteen fifties or Disney . You know, I love candy, but I don't know if I just know that I love it. I don't know if I know things right about it. Love to eat . nineteen fifties, hail, no in collections. Good God, no. We're going with Disney. I'm in the Disney State. We live in Florida, right? We got to get this. All right, here we go. Disney. Oh, this one has to do with Disney plus, the streaming service. Oh, I don't even own that, Russ.ia Oh, you're in trouble then, here we go. For the Marvel Studios animated series What if on Disney plus ? Beth Hoyt provides the voice for What Supporting Character Portrayed in seven MCU films by Gwynneth Paltrow. , remember when I talked about the Adventures, I at least know my MCU, so that's that's good. We're looking for don't you take your nephew to every MCU? Did I hear that? Every MCU film, yeah, that's right. So me and my cousin, my cousin's basically my aunt, she's like twenty five years older than me. We go to every Toy Story movie together . She took me to like the first one when I was a little kid and now I have to fly to Maine this summer to go watch the fifth one . Like worth it. What is it worth it? I don't know. Spend time with her. That's the worth it. That's right. That's worth it. I don't know, I don't know if Toy Story five is gonna cut it. I will go withpper Pe pots. Good go with the pepper pots on this one. That is correct, Sam. You got your second point of the game and these tangents , Sam . The MCU , Disney , characters , and voices . Oh , look, I don't want MCU because you're going to come like who was the screen time most in the second episode of Iron Man, I don't know, but I'm gonna do it. MCU, let's go. All right, here we go. A year before making her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the MCU , what actress played a longtime employee at Rosemore Animal Park in We Bought a Zoo . We bought a zoo was with I think that was I always call him Russell Crow, but I think that's a Cameron Crow movie with Matt Damon if I do recall . And I think that was like my guts in mid two thousands, but that can't be . All right, let's back this up. Who's made what a year before her first appearance? That means she's made multiple appearances . It wouldn't be if you reference Gwynneth Paltrow from Webought a zoo, that's no way and no way Gwynneth Paltrow has ever been a long term employee anywhere. So we're gonna cut that out . Who else? Ironman. No one was really in Captain America . And also, if you reference Liv Tyler from Wi Batazoo, I don't even know if these people are in Wibata and not Lord of the Rings. You got a problem there . Okay , this might be my first strike, but we're just gonna rip it. We gotta warm up the strikes too. I'm gonna go with, I don't know how to say her first name, but her last name is Lily, Evangeline, Evangeline Lily, I think that's how you say it. That's who we're going with. You're gonna say Evangeline Lily from Lost . Yes. K Kateate, from Lost. Kate from Lost The Wasp. Yeah. The Wasp. Yeah. And this person has made more appearances in the MCU. Oh Scar. Charlotte Johannson. Scar Joe. We're done. Okay , no more misses. No more misses at all. That's just your first miss, and you have these tangents . The MCU again , Zoos debuts or twenty ten's films. You know what's even more frustrating now to think about that, Russ? I knew we bought a zoo came out in the mid two thousands because yeah Iron Man was two thousand eight. I knew it. I should have just stuck with my guns. Damn Few MCU, we're done with you. We're going to twenty ten's films. twenty ten's films, it is It's a documentary film. The twenty fourteen documentary Bow, Barclay and The Big Hurt from the, Producers Behind ESPN's thirty for thirty series, centers on three game changing athletes who all competed for one university during the nineteen eighties. My degree is in the other room, but that's my alma mater Alburn University. Let's go. Wow. Sam, you get back in the good column literally thanks to your education. Yeah , wow. That's your third point and they get you these tangents. twenty ten's films , documentaries , sports , or also a town in Central Illinois. Auburn is a town as a guy . Barely been to Illinois. I'll tell you what category I'm not going into. Not taking you. The first three are very all are tempting in any way. Two thousand ten films documented, I'll just go with sports. I feel like I have the widest knowledge on, so we'll just go with sports. Generalort Ssp, okay, here we go. Until they were rebranded in two thousand four , FC Dallas had a name very similar in theme to one other MLS team who took their name from an eighteen seventy one disaster . Hm m. I don't know why he chose soccer for sports . Don't know why you did that to me. Also, I don't know why Auburn wasn't a thing. You don't have five questions about Auburn, Alabama. I really don't. That's a that is a true shame, right? Or Eagle? I'm thinking we should reset the board, Russ. You want to reset the board? I have a seventy percent guess, but I don't feel great about that seventy percent. That's all the same. Out of curiosity, Sam, what would your guess have been? Not confidently, it would have been the dynamo. The dynamo, that famous eighteen seventy one disaster . I don't know that it involved dynamo. Dynamo. Maybe Dynamo? Oh, I see, no. The Chicago Fire. Okay. Chicago Fire. I would have said Chicago Fire, but I thought that question was talking about a Texas team is the Houston Dynamo. So that's where I was. Oh, got you. Okay, got you. No. Luckily for you. I reset the board. We're resetting the board. Four. That was a smart decision. Smart decision players. If you're not resetting the board during the question, I don't know what you're doing. What are you even doing? Yeah. What are you doing? Sam, let me remind you what your chosen categories were. The TV show not the band viv Suror, Sport Mante, which is basically sports before and after, taglines, movie taglines , or two thousand TV. We're going Survivor, baby, Russ. Going Survivor. Survivor all day. It's possible we could get to those other subjects . I'm sorry that you spent time on sport mantos, but I think you can use it later . I can reuse those for sure. Here is your first question of many the realm of survivor . Before landing his survivor gig, Jeff Probe's only television experience was as the host of what game show spinoff on VH one from nineteen ninety eight to two thousand one . That would be everyone's rock and roll jeopardy. Everybody's favorite version of Jeopardy. Rock and roll jeopardy. When there was a sports jeopardy there for a minute, wasn't there? There's coming back. Joe Buck is going to be the host. Joe Buck, that's right. One need to be Lewis's own. Joe Buck. All right, can't wait. Sand that's your fourth point. And you have these. Let me remind you of your previous score. Only twenty . You have twenty four. Only twenty more to go. We'll get a few more in Survivor to get there . Survivor hosts spin offs or nineteen nineties TV. Survivor all day. I would add all day. What city is part of the nickname of Rob Mariano, who's been part of seven different seasons of Survivor, including the first all stars season, where he finished second behind Amber Bricketch, his future wife. Sorry, Amba. Amba. The answer is Boston. Yes, Boston. I actually have his I have his email address if you want it. Russia. Oh my god. I found she did. I found it on Finmo one day . So I was emailing so, long story short , I know a survivor, and I was vinmoing this guy. And so I just, for whatever reason decided to look at his past transactions and sure Rob sent it with his email address attached. And I was like, Oh my God, it's amazing what you can find with people who don't do private transactions in Venmo. And it was it was a transaction that probably happened like five years ago. It was just like way in the past . So yeah. Same, that is your fifth point and I get you these tangents survivor, cities, nicknames, or wildcard. Yes, survivor. Going back to Survivor . Perhaps there was something in the water that made one island nation northeast of New Zealand such an ideal location during season fourteen of Survivor, that the show returned for season thirty three in twenty sixteen and has been shot there ever since. Also , the only country in the world to have three tittles in a row. Fiji. It's a lot of tittle, a lot of tittle . A lot of tittle . It is Fiji. Must be something in the water, get it. Fiji water? Yeah. Oh, I get it . Come on, thank you. All right. That is your sixth point and you have these tangents even though I know where you're going to go Survivor Islands, New Zealand or geography. There's an easy thank God because Islands, New Zealand and geography, I would need a double reset. Survivor. Survivor it is . Here's your next one . Memorable for shady tactics like garnering sympathy with a fake dead grandma story, two time survivor competitor John D,alton is better known by what ironic alter ego that he crafted during his days in regional professional wrestling. That's Johnny Fairplay That is Johnny Fairplay. Did his grandma actually die? No, she was watching Jerry Spring er. That that time, but she has since died, yes. Okay. Well, we want Johnny Fairplay to come back. He's one of our favorites. So one of our favorites. Okay. Yeah. Sam, you have answered four surviv or questions in a row. It's the last one. Yeah, you're gonna kill the category here. But here's the thing. I do want to think there needs to be an off ramp. Yeah. And this could be an incredible off ramp for me, but I am too greedy. We'll find out. Your tangents are survivor wrestling villains or reality TV. Survivor, I'm doing it. That's what I thought. Here we go, killing the category . Unsurprisingly, Jeff Pro bst owns a trademark on what for word phrase , which he apparently intends to use as the name of a card game. It's actually if you're a gamer, it's a great game. It's really fun. The tri be has spoken is what we're looking for. It is indeed the tribe has spoken. And apparently I wrote this question before that card game was presented. It's come out in like six months ago. So it's about six months . Okay, it's a recent one. Sam, k youill'veed the category at least for now. It's impossible you could make your way back. But survivor limit has been reached five in a row . And now you're left with these tangents trademarks , hosts , or card games. I think we're gonna go hosts . Yeah, you're a host. You know other hosts. So dirt. Unless it's like a parasite question, then I'm screwed. I think you'd be okay . Here is your next question . After thanking the foo fighters for cancelling part of a South American tour to be there, who turned to the camera on may twentieth, twenty fifteen and said, All right, that's pretty much all I've got . Thank you and good night . Oh, oh, oh, oh, I got it, I got it, I got it. This is God, what's that guy's name? Give me a second. It's not Steven Colbert. It's not Jay Leno. It's not one of the Jimmies. I know exactly who it is. It between two ferns when he's on it. Zack Alphanakis calls him a cracked out Santa. David Letterman, there we go. David Letterman. Yes, is a final episode. Foofighters, I think David Letterman's favorite band. And they were in South America and stopped their tour to be there. That's amazing. Yeah. So that gets you to night and points and get you these tangents. Goodbyes twenty ten's TV, hosts or bands . Survivor has been the only category where I've stayed consistent. I'll go with two thousand's TV . It's twenty ten's TV. That's what I meant. That's what I meant. That's what I meant. What did I say two thousands? Yeah, yeah, twenty ten's. twenty ten's TV, it is, here we go. Formed in nineteen ninety one, what Sacramento California band led by John McCray had their song short skirt long jacket used as the theme for the NBC comedy Chuck from two thousand seven to twenty twelve That would be the band cake is what we're looking for. Everybody loves cake . Cake it is and cake get you to double digits . And it also gets you these tangents. Edible answers. Cake, Sam, is edible . Some of the other answers in that category were not or yeah or not Bands , Thee songs or twenty ten's TV I love theme songs and I love wordplay stuff, but I need we need to get to twenty four points before I start messing around. So twenty ten's TV . twenty ten's TV . Here we go. The mustache style worn by Chief's coach Andy Reid, actor Sam Elliott, mythbuster Jamie Heine , and Nick Offerman's character Ron Swanson gets its name from what aquatic animal. I have no idea if this is a mustache style, but the I only mean thing I can think of is a walrus. So we're gonna rip it. Sam, it's the Walrus. Yeah. There's a there's also a golfer's guy from back in the day. Craig Statler. I think if I were to put Craig Statler, that might have given a rife for people of a certain age. That's funny because I was a sign boy. There's a big tournament, the Players Championship in Jackson . I was a sign boy when I was in high school. I was like a little standard bear that would follow the players and I got Craig Stabler one time. Wow, you had the Walrus. I had the Walrus. So the fact that you didn't say it was actually like reverse. I was like, he didn't say Craig Stabler . It must not be Walrus. I know I was like, he would have definitely put that. Surely he would have said Craig Stater. Yeah . That gets you to eleven points and it gets you these tangents. The NFL , actors , twenty ten's TV or sea creatures like a Walrus . This is so difficult. I love the NFL and I love two thousands TV. Here's the thing. You're more of a movie TV guy. I don't know if you definitely are a sports guy, but what do you go deeper on TV or NFL? I'll go with NFL . NFL. Please think that's a wise choice, Sam. Okay, please let it be post nineteen nineties. Oh, post nineteen nineties. We'll see. If you give me a Fran Tarkin question, I might be in trouble. It is definitely not about my favorite host of that's incredible Fran Tarkin . Here we go. What comedy team regrouped in twenty twenty for a new version of one of their classic sketches with some help from NFL stars Haha Clinton Dicks, Prince Amakamora, Debricksaw Ferguson, Frosty Rucker , and Aaron Rodgers. That would be Key and Peel. Saying that would be key in Peel. Didn't require a ton of NFL knowledge. No not at all. So let's let's run it back. It falls in. Yeah . Categories, your tangents are these with twelve points now. Comedy duos , twenty twenties TV. NFL or Wildcard. twenty twenties TV's crazy NFL. Here we go. Next up in the NFL . He's played in the NFL . He's starred in roles from a sitcom cop to the president of a very dystopian America, and he's hosted who wants to be a Millionaire . But what Renaissance man has also worked as a courtroom sketch artist, painted commission works, and own s his own interior design firm. This is gonna be a little adventure here. Initially, Kent give you his initials. No . I walked into that . At the beginning of this question, I was thinking Michael Strayhant just 'cause TV. But that's a big no. Then I thought it's that guy. And I think he's the office linebacker , but I could just be messing that up too, but I think this is Terry Cruz . Terry Cruz, your guest, the host of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? Also on Brooklyn Nine nine and President Camacho in Idiocracy. Yes. It is Terry Cruz. Office linebacker, not Terry Cruz. People get them displaced. That's Terry Tate. Oh, office line. Okay, okay, so close. Terry's. Did you know don't you love it when trivia guys try to out trivia the other? Did you know that in the movie idiocracy , they were wearing crocs because they thought what's the dumbest shoe people would ever wear and we are now wearing it. We are idiocracy. Yeah. Also, Ross, you're not talking about the one thing we talked we thought we were going to talk about. My favorite landlord. Sam, why didn't we talk about this at the beginning of the show? Just Terry Cruz made me think of it. Sam's landlord. I was presenting this fact last night . Sam's actual landlord who takes his rent money every month is none other than Stephen Root. Stephen frickin' Root raised my rent last year. Unbelievable. How does that milton need to raise your rent? He owns like five or six of these buildings on the street. I don't know why. It's good investment. Like, if you're a character actor, like Steven Root is, yeah, a brilliant actor, but still a character actor, you gotta make other investments, and he's done it wisely. I don't know how I discovered it with him, but I have his phone number now. You have Steven Root's phone number. You have Boston Rob's email address, and Chris Hollister's phone number. And Chris Hollister's phone number all for sale. Yeah. The last thing I texted Steven Root was thank you for fixing my sink. Thank you for fixing my sink and your work on news radio. Yeah , I appreciate both of those things. Amazing. Just one more thing about Sam Mitchell that I don just't know add, ing it up. The lore is deep. The world's most interesting man. Don'sekis should be calling you soon. Yes, I need some cash. You're at thirteen points. Lucky thirteen , and you have these tangents side gigs , NFL , actors or twenty ten's TV. We're sticking with the NFL, baby . Sticking with the NFL, baby, here we go . Sam , you're not gonna believe this . Very tape, Terry Tate office line background. Terry Tate office line background. But you have made your way into one of your tangents that you picked, sport manta and it gets you this Oh no the major league baseball career strikeouts record holder is I should explain for people who have never heard it's a before and after question but it's also sports related so we,'re calling this sportmantau. And I'm going to give you two different clues . You're going to take the answers of those two clues , jam them together to make one long answer. Here we go. Number one is the Major League Baseball Career Strikeouts record holder and the second part is the number two pick famously the number two pick in the nineteen ninety eight NFL draft were the Chargers out of Washington State . So I'm not gonna lie. I am not a baseball gu y. Like I'll know barely enough to get by in a locker room conversation. But I know the NFL, that was Ryan Leif. And so then my mind immediately was trying to figure out how to push Ryan Leaf and Ryan Sandberg. Is that even a guy? Is that a pitcher? It's a second baseman and also it's not Ryan. It's Ryan 's Ryan. Yes. Ryan. So I was like, this isn't right, but I figured it out 'cause I was overthinking it. This would be Nolan Ryan Leaf . Sam, this would be Nolan Ryan Leaf. What an athlete that would be, right? It really would do a lot of drugs, throw a lot of balls . Throwing balls and doing drugs. Sam, that is your fourteenth point and it brings you these tangents . Sport Manteu , major league baseball, records , or the NFL. You know, I was having fun with the NFL, but I need an exit ramp. Sport Manta let's rip it. I asked for manteup. You ask for it. It's my own fault. You almost have to take it now. Sport Manta, it is. Here is your next one in Sportmanteau. Now, remember, not both parts. Both parts don't have to be sports, but at least one parts can be sports. Oh, very interesting you're saying that now. Yeah interesting. First part is the musician or musician even who holds the record for the most performances at Madison Square Garden, with a monthly residency from twenty fourteen to twenty twenty five , plus the Canaroon born NBA NVP in twenty twenty three who became the first center to average thirty point s per game since Moses Malone in nineteen eighty two. This is a stretch I think you just talked about this . You asked a very similar question on the most recent episode about Madison's Square Garden. I think I think that's where I heard it. But we're looking for Billy Joelle and Bede . Yeah, a little pronunciation difference, but yeah, Billy Joelle and Bede is correct . And Sam , you're to fifteen points. And let's double check again. Yeah, twenty four points. Still nine away from that magic number, but we have regular before and after musicians sport manta or the NBA . Well, I'm pigeonholding now. I'm definitely not doing before and after. That's crazy. So I'll do the sports before and after. Sports before and after, yeah, here we go. The all time leading scorer for the Miami Heat plus the only player other than Jackie Robinson, whose number has been retired by the Tampa Bay Rays. We're looking for Duane Wade Boggs . We are looking for Duane Wade Bogs is correct . And it's sixteen points now for you. Next set of tangents will be sportmantau , records , the NBA or Major League Baseball. We're going Sports Manteau. Sport Manta. Did I call it Sport Manto or did you come up with? No, you said before and after . Okay, that's why I thought I was like, I'm not that smart to come up with that . You said sports before and after, but I have done these in the past. Okay, so we had so I had Sport Manta ready to go. All right, here we go. Next one up in Sport Manto is this a country group made up of Tyler Hubard and Brian Kelly from twenty ten to twenty twenty two plus the invisible demarcation on either side of the neutral zone , according to section twenty one of the NCAA football rulebook. We're looking for Florida Georgia Line of Scrimmage . We are looking for Florida Georgia line of scrimmage. Sam, you've done it again. Florida Con kind of seriously thank you seventeen points and these tangents before and after bands country music or sportmanteu. Oh, I would rather take three wild cards. We'll do sports man sport manto Sport Manto it is. Here we go, next up . The three time captain for the Canadian men's hockey team who holds the record for the most games played for the Pittsburgh Penguins . Plus the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame Band formed from ex members of the Birds, Buffalo Springfield, and the Hollies. We're looking for Sydney Crosby Stills and Nash. We are in fact looking for Sydney Crosby Stills and Nash and saying that gets you to eighteen points and it gets you these tangents before and after Sport Manteau records or the NHL Sport Manteau last one'.s do Let this. Your question or your clues anyway . The running back who was the first NFL player featured on the cover of the EA Sports Mad and Football series of games , plus the nine time NBA all star nineteen seventy seven to eighty five, whose nickname was the Ice Man I think I know it, but I don't feel great . I get all these seventies and eighties basketball players confused and I was a spur s I'm a Spurs fan, so I feel like I should know this . I think I just don't there's no way that this evil dude was the first person on the EA sportsman. I hate this man . He ruined my life as an eight year old, twelve year old . And fun fact, his wife was on Survivor Season eighteen . He was actually too.ch Tneically, according to your rules, he was on survivor . He has a credit. He has a credit . We're looking for Eddie George Gervin is what we're looking for. Same we are looking for Eddie George Gervin. For the people I don't just hate Eddie George, he was a Titan's guy and we hate the Jaguars hate Titans. , but also a really good running back. Yeah , too good. Sportmanto now off the board. You're one of the rare players who have killed two of your own categories , and your tangents that are left with nineteen points are NFL , the NBA , or nicknames. We're jumping back into the NFL. I do love nicknames, but that's too broad. That could be nicknames. It could be what is Ivan the Great Third Child's nickname. I know how you work. I know how you work. It's a great pub quiz question . Not for my too hard. Too hard. They would tell you too . Here is your next question in the NFL . Some Seattle fans still haven't forgiven Pete Carroll for what NFL films called the number one worst play in NFL history when Russell Wilson tried to throw the ball to Ricardo Locket instead of handing off to what running back in the final play of Super Bowl forty nine . I'm just here so I don't get fined. That would be Marsh awn Lynch. That would be Marshawn Beast mode Lynch and that Sam gets you to twenty points . You're very close now. Oh, we can do this. And you have these tangents , mistakes , NFL , Super Bowls or Wildcard . Super Bowls are so tempting. Again, if it's pre Super Bowl thirty though, I am scarrude . We'll go NFL. NFL, here we go . Your question is this, Hall of Fame quarterbacks Joe Montana and Warren Moon achieved the bulk of their success with other teams that both wrapped up their careers after signing with what AFC team in the nineteen nineties. To be honest, I forgot Warren Moon signed with this team, but we're looking for the Kansas City Chiefs . We looking're for the Kansas City Chief s. Was that was Warren Moon like late nineties with the chiefs? Late nineties with the chiefs in the very late nineties, yeah. Yeah. I think we played them once. And San that's twenty one points now for you and we have killed the NFL , but we have left retirement , which in a lot of cases is a sports retirement, the nineteen nineties , and wildcard . This is brutal. I'm in a brutal situation. Really back into a corner here. I don't like what can retirement be about ? A lot of these are sports retirements. Okay, we'll rip it. Yeah, here's double insurance. I used to work as a retirement broker virtually please be a four hundred one k . Yeah, please be a four hundred one K Roth IRA question coming up right now. Here we go. Next up is this, oh, it is not a sports question. Oh no. Here we go. Yeah. What ninety four year old billionaire announced that after sixty years at the helm of Berkshire Hathaway, he would be stepping away at the end of twenty twenty five. To be honest, I did not know he was ninety four years old, but that would be Warren Borne Buffet. Warren Buffet. Phoebe's dad. Phoebe's dad. Sam Mitchell sits at twenty two points, two points away from his high score with two misses remaining. I don't want to j inks any, S thingsam. You have these tangents left. Money , business , retirement . Use to work in the retirement field or a wildgart. Here's the thing, just 'cause I definitely don't know money 'cause I don't have it. And just because I run a business doesn't mean I know what I'm doing. So we're gonna go and the only thing I know is that I want to retire soon. So retire . Amen. It's not gonna happen. Retirement. And this gets you back to sports. Oh, thank God. It is a sports retirement question . It is this when Yankees centerfielder Joe Demagio retired after the nineteen fifty one season , who moved over from his right field position to replace him the following year. Remember when I said I b'asem notball a guy? I have two options and I don't like either I don't like either of them . I think I'm gonna answer in honor of my father . Okay . He had a person with a signature . Long story short, my dad, my grandfather who I never met, had connections to the Yankees and personally knew this guy and that they were at a game and they yelled for him to come over and my dad got assigned a ball from him. Then when they moved out of that house, fifteen years later, my grandmother threw the ball away. That's what all grandmothers do. Seventy years later, we're still talking about it. I'm gonna go with Mickey Mantle . Gonna guess Mickey Mantle. Sam, what was your other guess? Lou Garrick ? Lou Garrick is the wrong answer. It's Mickey Mantle. Yeah, Mickey Mantle . I'm pretty sure Oh, Lou is long gone by now. I get all those . I get all those dudes. Thirty's, forties, fifties could be all the same guy for me . Okay, well you lucked into it but because of a good story from your past or your dad's past. It's a math. It's a math. Math, see, math works out for you. Now, Sam with two misses left , you're only one point away from your high score . With these tangents, pretty favorable, I think, replacements, people who replaced other people or things that replace other things , major league baseball, retirement or the nineteen fifties . I want to get out of this, but I can't know retirement will stick with retirement. Stick with retirement. Okay. I know. The next one up is this in retirement . Batting two hundred and two with three home runs in nineteen ninety four, Michael Jordan had a less than stellar baseball career playing for the Chicago White Sox affiliate in what southern city? He played here versus the Jacksonville sons, that would be the Birmingham Barons. He did play for the Birmingham Barons in Birmingham, Alabama . Sam, you have tied your all time high score. Let's go. twenty four points and you still have two misses remaining and these tangents, nineteen ninety sports, retirement , cities , or failure . Failure is such a funny category but I'm saying we'll go ninety sports to all the non sports people. I'm so sorry you have to listen to this. It's okay. You've had other good things to say. We talked about Steven Rue. Okay, great. So here we go, nineteen ninety Sports . The nineteen ninety one World series had the odd distinction of featuring two teams that had both finished dead last in their divisions the previous year and ended in extra innings when Gene Larkin drove in Dan Gladen to give which ALT team the win over the Atlanta Braves . You want to know something , I think I know this , but something that's so embarrassing for me as a sports gu y quote unquote. I do not know the difference between the NL and AL. I just I have studied it, I have tried, my brain just does not grasp it for whatever reason. But I think I'm having doubts now . I don't think it's so embarrass to say this on public people are like, you idiot, you're so dumb . I feel like I would have recognized the guy from the Blue Jays who had a walk off home run. I feel like that. So other than that, I'm going with the other team that I think had an extra inning win . That would be the twins. Gonna say the Minnesota Twins, you're thinking of Joe Carter for the Toronto Blue Jays. Yeah, yeah. It was indeed. The Minnesota Twins , yes . Sam, you've beaten your all time score. twenty five points now with these tangents . A nineteen ninety sports, I will tell you, there's only one question left in that category . Failure , ch , or Atlanta . I'll switch it up. I'll go with Atlanta. I've been there a ton of times. Get out rest my brain for the sports. You don't know Atlanta that well, so let's exactly right. These are probably gonna be super easy for you . Worthy or not. We'll see. Your next question is in Atlanta . After a few name changes, what alt metal banned from Atlanta? Settled on a name inspired by a powdered insecticide ? I regret. Can I get that reset . I have no idea . The only powdered name band I can come up with is Anthrax . Final answer. That's a great guess because yeah, of course Anthra can come in powdered form , but it's not sold insecticide . This is seven dust . Not seven dust. Not getting there. Sam, it's okay. I feel just your second miss . Second mission's already beaten your high score, so you're good to go. That's all gravy from here. Is it gravy? We'll see . Your tangents are bands , names, numbers or Atlanta . What are names? Like names really? Yeah, names. You could just change it to nouns. Yeah, nouns. We'll go Atlanta. Go back to Atlanta. I don't feel great about this man, you are not getting you're getting maybe crushed by a category about Atlanta bands . So here we go. What musical duo from Atlanta is the first act mentioned in the subtitles of the twenty eleven Ben Westoff book Dirty South and the two thousand seven Ronnie Serig book Third Coast. It's got to be outcast. It's got to be outcast. That's right . Sam's at twenty six points now and has these tangents banned books, not banned books ban books, but books about bands, not banned books, books about banned books. Atlanta , subtitles or wildcard. Well, now that I know Atlanta is just secret music category I would never have chosen. We'll go subtitles. I like a good subtitle. Subtitles. Yeah, yeah, me too . Here we go. Next up in subtitles then is this The Way of the Water . Yo, I was the subtitle just said this. That is so funny. I was about to say my name is Sam Mitchell, the way of the water is okay. I'm guessing that Sam will know the answer to this one then the way of the water is the subtitle for the audience then . The Way of the Water is the subtitle of the third highest grossing film of all time . But amazingly, it's not even the highest grossing film in its own franchise, thanks to the nearly three billion dollars earned by What movie in two thousand nine? That would be Avatar . That would be Avatar. That's right, Sam. And Avatar get you twenty to seven points . You now you join the twenty seven club in probably the best way possible . And that gets you to these tangents. Yes, way . Get it because we is in the okay nevermind subtitles franchises or records . Look, the franchises is so dubious you're you're not talking about sports franchises. You're talking about Dairy Queen in Subway. Could be? Yeah, might be Not Faul or Steve the franchise Francis . That's right. Isn't that his name? Yeah, yeah. We're going subtitles . Going back to subtitles . Powerful lessons in al Person Change is the subtitle of What Best Selling nineteen eighty nine Business and Self Help Book by Stephen Covey. It lays out the author's list of ideas on how to improve both personally and professionally . It's just tough . So I'm thinking it's not this. Don't lock me in here. I'm not going to the way to the how to win people over and influence others, whatever that is. There's another guy that wrote that and his name is not Steven Cove Covey Covey . I can't think of that guy's name. That was going to be my first instinct, but I think I don't know why this is coming to my mind, but I'm just leaning on the trivia brain. You know, sometimes he doesn't lean on stuff you don't know is there. Is this Who Moved My Cheese ? Who moved my cheese ? That is Spencer Johnson. Who wrote Who Move My Cheese ? This one is the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. No way . Sam , you are a highly effective person. That brings us sadly to the end of our regular game. You have twenty seven points the better of your two scores. And we're not going to end there. We're going to end on a good note with one of your questions from your category. Survivor Sport Mantle taglines or two thousand TV. I'll do taglines. Taglines. Yeah, why not? Here's your question. Some memories are best forgotten. Is the tagline for what two thousand Christopher Nolan film? My brother took me to see this because he didn't want to babysit me anymore. So he was like, just come with me to watch this movie with my friends as a fifth grader. I had no idea oh wow, what the hell is going on in this movie? I wasn't fifth grade , maybe it was seventh grade, but I still did it not. Yikes. I haven't watched it since because I'm like, that movie doesn't make any sense. We're looking for, I think it's momento. Yeah. In fact, we are looking for a Memento. Yeah , same we've got on a good note . You did it. I did it. You had a great game overall and we heard a lot of sports. We heard a lot of good stories. Anything you want to shout at or plug, obviously, since we're wrapping it up here. Just give me a follow on I know it trivia on Instagram or Facebook. That's all I ask. It's the world's greatest Instagram account. I'll say it over a lot of hot end. It's fantastic. You won't regret it, even if you have no way of playing I know it trivia. That's fair. Go follow it. I will say it's I try to make it entertaining at minimum . Let me give you some insight. Today is Star Wars day and Sam calls up on FaceTime, I assume, some of his regular trivia players in the Jacksonville area. No warning? With no warning. Yeah, they answered the phone cold . And he has some of his players do their best Chewbacca impression, which they all nailed it. They did that. Somebody asked me to do it. I'd be like, Aha, I would yeah, they were really good. That's actually pretty good. Wow. I think you know, I think that's the trick. You really had the one guy had to go outside , which I appreciated. That's Florida man. If you look up a gift, Florida man hurricane, he's the guy holding the American flag in the middle of the hurricane. That's actually him. Yeah, that's him. Yeah. You're kidding me. No Sand. That's like living in pop culture, this really is the trivia mecha. Jackson . It's amazing. Go follow Sam on Instagram , all the Facebook, et cetera, et cetera. You won't regret it. stay tuned for Sam. We'll have you hear more from Sam in the next couple years. Yeah. Bum bum, bum. Sam always great to see you. See you buddy. This is Tang s My name is Dalton Storm McGee. I am playing from Franklin, Tennessee. I'm a corporate manager for Verizon, and the specialty subjects I'm looking for are Star Wars, Pokemon, Ru Paul's Drag Race, and Anatomy and Physiology What do you recommend? I started watching the blacklist a lot and really enjoy it . I feel like I was late to that party. Everybody else and bring it up to oh I love the blacklist. I recommend the Devil Wears Prada two. Yeah, if you haven't seen it yet, I was very I expected a lot and was still not disappointed. It was excellent. I love the lines it drew between what media has done in the last twenty years. I mean, you forget how different that landscape was in two thousand six compared to now until you see them kind of poke holes at that . And I also hate that Merrill Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci haven't aged a day in twenty years. It's amazing what good skin care and excellent surgeons can do. Yes . But truthfully, uh, I really, really enjoyed the Devil Wars Prada two. And a lot of times sequels mess it up. So to do two it twenty years later and to still honor what the first one was, I could not recommend it more. All right, I'll check that out . What question should I ask the player who comes after you, the next guest , on tangents? I'll let you think about that for a minute. Okay, okay. Cause I'm gonna ask you the one that Sam Mitchell wanted to ask . That question is, what would the title of your autobiography be? I have to shout my brother out who suggested that it should be called Tried to Pray the Gay Oway. But in thinking about it, I got some feedback from those close to me and the one I really , really liked was from the ground up . The idea being, you know, pretty much everything that gives me joy in life is building something from nothing . So from the ground up as I actually think what the answer would be? There you go . Sam's by the way . Sam Mitchell, my life in a twin bed. Nice. That's a better selling title. And actually now that I think about it Ben was right because tried to pray that gay away would definitely sell off the shelf better than sell some books. Yeah . Dalton, where do you quiz ? I've been playing regularly at Brewhouse South Monday nights at ten PM in Franklin, Tennessee . I like that the game is at that time they cater it to letting other bartenders and servers be able to play pub trivia. I think that's super cool. Love that. Yeah, it's not my favorite format, but it's become more enjoyable now that I have my people I play with and we've got to know the other team s . The bit for me there has been that I get pickle beers, like a light beer with a pickle spear. Yes. You do get pickled when you drink. I'll tell you that. Yeah. Well, you got to get your electrolytes as you're losing them. Indeed. Other than that, Tuesday or Sunday nights with you. Tuesday. I know. I'm supposed to have it. No, it's something I look forward to every week, not just because I like your trivia, but it's nice to have, you know, Maine and Virginia, and Florida and Tennessee and Illinois. We all get together and the distance doesn't keep the friends away. That's why I like playing with people from all over. Yeah . All right , Dalton, speaking of trivia . A youre ready to make your game ? I am . We begin where Sam left off with this question. Powerful Lessons in Personal Change is the subtitle of What Best Selling nineteen eighty nine Business and Self Elf helpook b by Stephen Cub bey. It lays out the author's list of ideas on how to improve both personally and professionally. That would be the seven habits of highly effective people. Yeah, that would be the seven habits of highly effective people , and that is your first point and it gets you these tangents lists nineteen eighties books, subtitles or wildcard . So Russ, I'm playing a game within a game today, my fifth time on tangents.. Oh boy I decided to make tangents a drinking game. Oh no . So when I get a question right, I will take a shot of beer. When I get a question wrong, I will take a shot of whiskey. Oh boy. So those that were keeping track of my previous episodes, I'd probably not get that drunk because I'm not gonna do that well, but the beer, yeah, these are both local. I'm excited. It's my favorite vanilla cream ale from the Black Horse Brewing Company, Clarksville. That's the beer. And then the aforementioned Bell Mead Sour Mash. There you go. Hey, these are all terrible categories for me . Lists and subtitles are tempting, but I'm not a rookie to this show anymore. And I know those are probably Russ Friedwald pop culture categories. Yeah, probably . So I'm gonna start this game off with a wild card. Okay, wild card it is. And here you go . Not to be confused with the management company and record label behind DMX . What was the nickname given to the first United States Voluntary Cavalry formed in eighteen ninety eight for the Spanish American War? This is definitely something I know, so I have to ponder this . Um , what first came to mind was like rough riders Oh, that ass , yes. I'm gonna go with rough riders and rough riders is correct. That is your second point and it gets you these tangents, golf terms, rough in this case , rap , war or wildcard. Don't, did you take a shot of beer? Oh, thank you for holding me accountable, Russ. We appreciate accountability. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Golf terms is interesting because I actually do think there aren't many I don't know . That could be anything, but at least it would give me a jumping point to whatever that question would be. Correct? Wrap is out of the question. War, I know a lot about the Civil War , and I know a lot about World War two. End of knowledge of war . I'll try golf terms at least once. We'll see what pops up there. Okay , let's try golf terms then. In eight presidential elections since nineteen ninety six , they've received a total of almost seven million votes, but Ralph Nader, David Cobb Cy,nthia McKenney, Jill Stein, and Howie Hawkins have yet to earn a single electoral vote for what party? That would be the green party. The green party, as in the Golf Green Party. Dalton has taken his second shot of beer? Maybe you need another one for that first question. Oh, I did take it for the first. I was? Okay, all right. We're gathering three shots in you now. Of beer , and you have these tangents , golf terms, politics, elections or wild card . This is a harder choice for me because I don't think I'm gonna go politics because that could be scandals and all kinds of other stuff that I just wasn't around or alive for, but I really have spent a lot of time YouTube deep diving presidential elections . That one could be good for me. Golf terms though, it's just such a narrow way in. I can't believe I'm not picking elections. I'm gonna go golf terms again. Golf terms, give a go. Playing an iconic villain got him nowhere with the academy, but what former U. S. Marine Corps Lance Corporal earned back to back Oscar nominations for roles in black clansm an and marriage story. Yeah, I'm just going to start rattling off golf terms that were going to make sense for me. So it could be I don't think anybody's name is Hole in one , Birdie R ogie , Eagle 's name albatross is probably not a name . So it could be Fairway. We've already done green . We've already done rough . It could be like sand trap. That seems like it would be weird in there. Club . Seven hours later Hazard Iron Wedge driver Oh, I guess that could be it I don't think he was Autland's corporal M Am I missing that name up for a football player? The name that came to mind was Donald Driver . I guess I don't need a first name because it's Jeopardy rules. I'm going to go to that if I can't think of anything else to just say Driver . But But now I'm trying to think if that was that Packers wide receiver and I'm just crossing wires in my head . See, driver , Wedge, Hutter . Several months later, approach on on don't think I'm going to get anywhere else in this because Oscars are rough for me and I know what I'm not going to pick next for a tangent . I guess I'll just say driver . It is not Packer's wide receiver Donald Driver, but it is Adam Driver . Ah, yes . Yeah, that gets you another shot of beer. I had the shot of whiskey in my hand ready. Ooh, ready to go. No, Adam Driver. And that gets you these tang ents, golf terms, Oscars , twenty ten's films or HBO . A good segue to mention, I've pretty much watched Game of Thrones, the Sopranos , and yeah, that's HBO for me So not really although I seem to recall somebody picking a think it was Sarah Kalori's episode. She went on a HBO run for a bit and I really enjoyed it. And I'm like, well, there goes everything I know. Let's do golf terms again. Golf Germs again. Okay, here we go. And you've probably said all the golf germs in that last question. Okay. That's comforting . Yeah Shout out to the Up to Par podcast . Hell yeah . Here we go, next up for you in golf terms . Pepsi introduced the lemon lime soft drink team TEM in nineteen fifty nine to compete with Seven Up , and it lasted until nineteen eighty four when it was replac ed by what new product that touted ten percent real fruit juice . So when I think when I think of lemon lime soft drink by the PepseiCo , I think of Sierra Mist and I do seem to remember hearing on some podcasts. I don't know if it was yours or someone else's me thinking the answer was Sierra Mist to an older woman lemon lime peps and ity was something I hadn't heard of, so I'm a little weary of saying that. And I don't think mist would be a golf term you would use because it's not spelled the same in the golf context . Mountain Dew not lemon lime . I can think about this . Much, much, much later . Bag ball. Tea . Very way rough, trap, sand , water , hazard , uh hole . Caddy and where it's something with caddy. You have a driver's gun, wedge , putter, put chip I think chips in there . Approach . I don't want to give up on this because I feel like I've run exhausted golf cut terms. I feel like it's more likely that I've said the right one and it's not tricking something than it is that I haven't said something Four , could it be four ? The other thing that's driving me cra zy is I feel like I have seen on the bottom of a can ten percent real fruit juice. Tomorrow The Sierra Mist even get made anymore? Maybe that was what I first didn't realize. Maybe that's what I was thinking of when I said I'd heard something on a podcast and was thinking, I don't think I realized C or Mist was defunct. Mellow Yellow is Mountain Dew is Coke . Mountain Dew is Pepsi Co , but why it wouldn't have competed with seven up. I mean, I guess it could have competed, but or apples and oranges. I think I might have to take my first miss, but I don't think I'm gonna come up with a better lemon lime pepsi co product than Sierra Mist. Sierra Mist a good guess. It is a lemon lime soda, replaced by starry if I'm not mistaken. And this one you said orange , which is related to this because the name of it is slice . Oh well, cheers my first whiskey shot to slice . I like missing questions on Tannas that I had no chance at. Yeah, there you go. Slice it is. Reintroduced, by the way, in twenty twenty five , apparently back on the market. I'll just check it out. All right , your tangents then, golf terms, which you've chosen three times now. Food and drink , companies or wild card . Golf terms treated new well, the irony of missing slice is it's why I'm not good at golf . It's also why I missed that question. I'm gonna take a off ramp here and go somewhere I've flirted with before in Tangas. We're going to do food and drink. Food and drink. Plenty of material here. Yeah. All right, here we go. The online travel magazine Thrillist describes it as an amalgam of Americanized Chinese food, Hawaiian tradition, and bar food. What common menu item in American Chinese restaurants gets its name from a Hawaiian word that originally meant shellfish . Hawaiian word is not going to help me. I'm not familiar with Hawaiian etymology at all and I feel like anytime I encounter it it, doesn't make any sense to me. Common menu item is pretty much gonna be my only way in on this, I think. Trying to think through like Panda Express . If it's Americanized, maybe that's a good place to start brainstorming . I think the only thing that I would say I'm not confident in saying so I will reset my game . Resetting tangents would have been fun to say magazines, travel or food and drink. Your answer poop poo platter. Poop platter. Yep. So you needed a little PT flea back door there for me from buggy . Yeah, there you go . We're gonna reset your board and that gets you these tangents. Rupaul's drag race, which you had last time you were on anatomy, Star Wars , or Pokemon , which I we may have dipped into Pokemon a little bit, but I don't think we've done too much on here with Pokemon. I don't think you have at all. I've been thinking a lot because now of course when you reset the board, the problem is you have too many good options for yourself and I know who you are as a writer. But I think that Pokemon is probably one where there's a disparaging knowledge gap between us. Probably. And where would it go from Pokemon? It could go to animals, it could go to video games . So I think because I've not heard it on tangents really , we're going to go to Pokemon. This might be our first dip in Pokemon. I'm so excited. Yeah, here we go. And your first question in Pokemon is this . Their original success came from their augmented reality game Ingress , but what company named for a nineteenth century whaling vessel leveled up in twenty sixteen with the massively mainstream game Pokemon Go . Okay , I'm turning it on in my brain . I play it every single day, Russ. Oh wow. I do. Hm , I have to sit on this . Um several months later . And the Pokemon Go Fest is happening again in Chicago in June and I am not going. I wish I knew when it was before I had to put my time in off. What's interesting about the reference to Ingris here is when I started playing Pokemon Go years ago, that's how I found out about what Ingris was and Ied so download it just to see what it was about. I thought it was super lame . I'm trying to think God this would suck after all this time to finally pick Pokemon and get it wrong. Especially when I play this game every day . For those that are enjoying the audio medium, I'm closing my eyes and just turning it on in my head. There's a white screen that has the answer on it as soon as you open the damn game . Niantic . Got it. I'm a visual guy. That worked. Yep. Yeah, Niantic, the name of the company . And that is your fifth point . Did you get that shot of beer? I did, yes. Okay . Fifth point, five shots of beer now. And one shot . One shot of whiskey . And these tangents. Pokemon. Am I saying that right? Pokemon? Funny you ask. There's actually an accident over the E h, yeah. And in the original anime, the Pokebecks referred to itself and them as Pokemon and like Pokemon and Poke mon. Yeah. Pocket Monsters . Correct. Also a town in Central Illinois . Here's one of your tangents . Niantic . For old school people, you remember Niantic Harrisown High School. It's now Sangaman Valley or Sang aman Valley, yes. Yeah. Video games or ships. Video games is tempting, of course, but let's stay with Pokemon and see where it takes us. Staying with Pokemon. All right, here we go. Introduced in nineteen ninety six, what seed Pokemon species in the grass and monster groups is numerically the first of the one thousand twenty eight currently included in the national Poke . While I am not inclined to pick this Pokemon to start off my red and blue journey because I'm a squirrel guy . That's why this Pokemon is not only yeah , I also like never mind this Pokemon is the correct answer is also hanging from my rearview mirror in my car and is here in my hand as a pop figure . This is Bulbassar. Yeah, it is . Bulbas ar is correct. That is your sixth point. What kind of beer are we drinking again? It is the vanilla cream eel from Black Horse Brewer Bringco in Clarksville, Tennessee. Yeah, good trains going on. It's the closest thing I can find to Hana Fate's double bean. Double bean dream. Yeah. That is my favorite beer in central Illinois and this is my favorite beer in central Tennessee. Gotcha. Well, good, good stuff. Wonder why they call it Central Illinois but Middle Tennessee. Illinois tall. Tennessee's wide . Well, there's that. All right, Dalton, your tangents are Pokemon , the nineteen nineties monsters or lists . We're gonna stay with Pokemon. Staying with Pokemon . Your third in Pokemon is this , I mean, you can't miss this. This is this is a non specialty night pub quiz level question in a general knowledge round. An unlocked question, if you will. An unlocked question , if you will. Recognizable by his baseball cap and vest . What character is the main human protagonist of the Pokemon franchise Voiced by a woman that would be Ash Ketchum. Your seventh point in seventh shot of beer . This could be very interesting. We're having fun. We're having fun. Yeah, dusty sleigh over here. Your tangents after your seventh point in your seventh shot a beer pokemon , characters , franchises or wild card let's ride it out. Don't want to waste it. Ridin' it? Speaking of waste a minute. I also dispilled a drop on my it's hard to pour the first beer shot of beer. Yeah. It's not an angle that a beer can likes. Right. Shouldn't pour it. Chug it . All right we're sticking with Pokemon . The Pokemon cadabra was the subject of a lengthy lawsuit between Nintendo and one British Israeli illusionist who claimed that the spoon bending cadabra was an unlawful use of his likeness . This is interesting . I have never heard this . So I'm trying to think I'm trying to I don't think it's Chris Angel. He doesn't strike me as British Israeli. I'm trying to think which ones have a British accent. I want to say David Blaine does . Is that a I don't know if that's a magician? I think it is. I'm trying to think of magicians I know Blaine , maybe Copperfield? Is that a magician? I'm now realizing I can only name like five total magicians maybe. Hm , who was bending spoons with his mind? It's crazy because I do feel like I've seen a clip of Chris Angel bending a spoon. Now it could have been a copy of an actual more famous bit , which is what I'm concerned about . Pokemon came out in nineteen ninety six . So this can't be Somebody too old , but also can't be somebody too new because Cadabra came out at that time. So they can't be a lawsuit infringement on somebody that was popular in the two thousands, which tells me it's not Chris Ange l. Much, much, much later I'm looking at this whiskey and I might have to take it. I think I'm not going to be able to talk myself out of guessing David Blaine, but I'll say Blaine. Just saying Blaine to be safe. Yeah. You suffer from not only being raised Jehovah's Witness magic was apparently forbidden, but also this is this is definitely before your time. This is Yuri Geller. Oh yeah , you know what? Here's to a taking whisky shot when I never would have got in a million years. See, there you go. Love it. Bottom being, whisky shot number two is down the gullet . And we'll have to refill that one more time , but hopefully we have to refill the other glass many more times. Seven points, two misses and these tangents . Pokemon , law , magic, which I would guess you would avoid or Nintendo . Nintendo is a very tempting off ramp because you never know it's gonna come from the last one. Right. But in terms of surviving, I absolutely know more about Pokemon than Nintendo generally speaking because there's a lot of old Nintendo that would get me . So I'm gonna try to finish my hopefully first encounter with Pokemon, though I'm guessing you might not have more than five questions in there. You never know. Never know. All right, Pokemon is then . And next up , all right, well, listen , congrats on your next point. The good news is you don't have to drink that whisky, and here is your next question. Considered a was o as a Japanese word composed of English loan words , the name Pokemon is a portmanteau of what two words Yeah . The fact that the first half of this sentence, I was like, why does Rest I'm gonna get this in the movie? Okay, I got it. This is Pocket Monsters, of course. This is, of course, pocket monster, Pocket Monsters, yes . And one more beer down the hatch and you now have eight points and eight beer shots and these tangents Sadly, as you see there on the screen, Pokemon limit reached , which leaves you with Japan , language or words . I like etymology. I like roots of words, I like that kind of stuff. So I think I'm safer going to words. We're going with words from the Latin for I shall please , what word has been used since eighteen eleven to describe a treatment meant to please rather than benefit a patient ? The first thing that comes to mind for me when I think that it's just not that's actually benefiting them. Oh , yeah, I think this would have to be place bo . This would indeed have to be place bo . Get you to nine points and nine shots of beer and it gets you these tangents Latin words ends with O or Medicine . I think the safe bet for me here is medicine. All right, medicine it is just to play it safe. And here we go. Russian physician Nikolai Karatkov's discovery of certain sounds led to improvements on what medical device invented in eighteen eighty one by Samuel Siegfried Karl von Bosch, and given a name from the Greek for pulse and pressure measure. Pulse tells me that you're looking for what we would commonly call like a blood pressure cuff, but I think it's called a sphigmanometer. Don't it is called a sphigm anometer. That's a good one. And it gets you to ten points. You're double digits now on both points and beer shots Away we go folks . Sphigm inometer gets you Russia , science , medicine , or language There it is again, man. What did you teach children in school? Honors anatomy and physiology , a little bit of everything you kind of have to do with it all, but honors anatomy and physiology was my bread and butter and then so science. Yeah, an honors freshman biology. So like science and medicine are both strong for me . I'm gonna go with science It's the obvious choice here. Sure, sure, sure, sure. Science it is. Here we go . Vegans and people with pernicious anemia may need to supplement their diets with what vitamin, also known as cobalamin or extrinsic factor. Yes, I'm I guess I could be going out. I'm pretty sure what vegans lack an extrinsic factor kobalam, I and at the end of a word just means it's a protein . So what came to mind initially was B twelve . I think that they struggle with that, but I for some reason think that B twelve is an intrinsic factor . And that's what's throwing me off is that this says extrinsic factor and that is literally definitionally the opposite . What else could they be? So what they're lacking is protein . Excuse me, it's not A, it's not C , it's not D . That does kind of limit the it seems like trust your gut, it's potatrivia . But it's definitely not AC or D, so I'm just going to go with it. I'm going to guess this is vitamin B twelve . Like we're playing bingo B twelve. Yeah. B twelve. It's I think a intrinsic factor has something to do with stomach lining or something like that. Okay, that could be the fact that I've had eleven shots of beer and two shots of whiskey. You're burning away your stomach lining as we speak. Not one points now and eleven shots of beer which gets you to alpha numerics speaking of B twelve , food and drink , health or science. Yeah, they're all great. I would be a fool to not pick science. I mean, it's pub trivia. It's got to be something that my freshman learned. You would think, right? You would hope. Going sci ence? Yeah, we'll go science. I knew Sphigma Monometer, so I've never come in the world right now. Exactly. Right Here we go in science . Cases of plumbism or saturnism have dropped dramatically since nineteen seventies regulations limited the risk of neurological damage due to exposure to what substance . There's two things I'm worried about here I think that we took lead poisoning more seriously , and I think we took asbestos more seriously. And I think that we started taking those most seriously at the same time Um , but no, but we don't take that. I still don't think we take lead poisoning seriously . Asbestos feels more like a science classroom thing to me. That's maybe what I'm thinking why you would have said this because the old science lab tables were frequently made with asbestos . Lead poisoning I've never heard called plumbism or saturinism I might be about to finish my game with another extremely average score .. Maybe not Yeah, I have dropped dramatically. Lead is still a problem. Asbestos is not, I'm gonna say asbestos. Dalton, you know the periodic table of elements. Yes. Do you know what the abbreviation for lead is on the periodic table? I think it's like PB PB. It's something like that. Short for maybe plumbum. Ombism. Of course it is. That's right. Yeah . Plumbum gets you lead and one more shot of whiskey. Oh , the bad news is, that's your third miss. The good news is, though, we're gonna end on a good note. I'm happy that I've gotten all every sub episode I've had hit double digits and that's a lot of people's goals. So I'm like counting my blessings. I just really want to hit twenty. That's honestly I would love to hit twenty. We're going to have to get there with more Pokemon questions, apparently. Apparently, right, right, Russ, get going. Yeah. Yeah We're going to end on a good note, though. And your topics again for listeners, RuPaul's Drag Race, Anatomy , Star Wars or Pokemon. I mean we got to keep exposing the Pokemon here. Let's do it. Okay, here we go in Pokemon then . The Pokemon franchise got its start as a pair of games designed for what gaming system ? One of my favorite gaming systems, handheld gaming system nineteen ninety six that whoa whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, I think the Game Boy maybe is what you're talking about, but the game color is what red and blue are on in the United States. I don't know if green in the Japan was on the regular game boy. I'm going to go with Game Boy Color. You're just gonna say Game Boy because it goes back further than the colors games, ye.ah Did it it really really, did come out on the gameboy? Yeah , look it up. Pokemon , first console . Gameboy. It was ninety six, but it is the Game Boy. Yeah. Well shit. Well, listen, it's close enough , we would say. I play it on a color it works. Yeah, exactly. Good job. Dalton we in on a good note. I can guess what you want to shout out and plug. No, I got nothing. No, I'm just kidding . Um Yeah, obviously I want to plug lockdown. Season three is wrapping up or has recently wrapped up as the case might be. There's a very exciting thirty two player single elimination tournament coming up. I think it's going to be a blast. Check out lockdown . I'm remarkably proud of what it's become and the joy that I've got from it and that I've heard from other people. Russ, I know you don't like specific praise, but sure don't. Genuinely tangents is what made me want to also do something like this. And I think lockdown has taken off. So thank you for paving the way for me and for whoever else might also be inspired I don't think it's showed up on the show before, but when I first had a concept for lockdown, I sent you , here's what I think this should be. Please give me critical feedback and you went, well, it's a tangent clone. If you heard the original recording Yeah, Mikey, Damn, you're right. And so it became something different because you gave me a thing I wanted to do and were kind and constructive and everything that it's grown from all the people I've got to know , it's just such a joy. So check out Lockdown trivia, sign up to play, enjoy the All Stars tournament and local elections matter more than presidential elections in a lot of ways . So please get out, let your voice be heard, vote, vote, vote, vote, vote. It's not just the hype of the presidential election. You need to vote for your governor, you need to vote for your Congresspeople. You need to vote for your senators, you need to vote for your school boards. You need to get out and make sure that what you care about is being represented. Please go vote. Rude to your mother. Thanks, Dalton. One more shot of beer for that. That is now twelve shots of beer, three shots of whiskey. Dude, I got to go play Pub trivia tonight . You got pickle beers to drink . Got pickle beers to drink already tonight. It's good times. Thanks, Dalton. Thank you, Russ ia . I want to say something actually nice. It's not just completely a circle jerk for myself . I like three sheets as well. I'm expanding my Wisconsin beer knowledge. Spotted cow . Two women, my favorite for Nugleris. Oh , I actually have not had two women, but Chase has said he likes it a lot. Well, yeah, makes sense. Checks out. Well, there's that . I don't know how you do it. I'm a one take guy, okay? I'm a professional russ. I know what I'm doing. Every time you drink, I'm gonna take a bite of ice cream. Heaven. Perfect.
