I have to mention Freaking Rainna Bringing in Sheep Stealer into battle though What was she thinking man? That was that did was she freaking thinking. She wants to be part of her family, which is all dragon people. And that desperation is why this even happened at all What's like Girl, we're in a war She actually brought dir she brought the derpy dragon to a neigh And she shot down her own people. Yeah. It just was not okay Hello everybody and welcome back to the Break rooom. I'm Alex Berg. I'm here with Brian Kim and it's Monday. Whatever the day after Father's Day is day was today twenty second, twenty third, something like that. This this will come out on Tuesday morning. So my attempts to figure out what day today is will be even less. acccurate tomorrow. U I mentioned to Twitch before we started, I haven't even like really said hi to you. Either digitally or in person You was so rude to me. I I gave it a day today. I came in I came in really flustered. It's got nothing to do with you. How was your weekend It was a pretty good weekend Yeah. So my sister came up from San Diego because it was Father's Day. Yeah We're gonna to do stuff around Father's Day. But before that, she really wanted to try this Taiwanese place she saw on TikTok And I gotta say you guys, Taiwanese food pretty yummy. Taiwanese Where was it? Yummy? It was somewhere in the SGV generally I Hamba. Yeah. someomewhere there. That's where all the good food is. No, yeah. it's so good Yeah. If you want some kind of East Asian food, specifically Chinese or Taiwanese, that's where you go. Have you been to the There's a mall in San Gabriel Valley. Yeah Yeah that has just a thousand different restaurants. crazy. Yes, and they're all cking good. Yeah. I went to like a tofu hot pot pot place there once. That was like phenomenal. That I think that's like one of the only malls left in Sokal in LA that's still like it's like popp in every day. Yes. It's so much people I just A lot of good food, a lot of good Yeah, there's like that huge like Asian grocery store all yeah this floor where you can get everything. like yeah. that look so good. M a recent thing, which is crazy. that you can go to a grocery store and a restaurant and shop for clothes. Yeahaces everything U but we had that we had Taiwanese food on Saturday and on Sunday was Father's Day. so I just went to visit my parents and my dad decided to make this like braised no, notraised but it was like a Baked lly. I don't exactly know what it's from. Itounds great. It work belly. Its good. Yeah, It's only so bad it can get. I' say. But happappy Father's Day to everyone who celebrates. Does you have to do anything for Father's Day? No. Ient I spent Father's Day wrestling with my pool, this is an unfortunate mealody to have happening at this point in American history. My pool has algae in it Uh just like just like the one in DC. And so I I spent Father's Day in like the most stereotypical like dad way of just like kind of like frowning at a seventy year old cool timer and trying to figure out how to like manually override it and like get like all the chemicals and shock to get the algae out of the pool. So it was uneventable. It was a good good weekend overall. but yeah I was very much in like true dad mode Gta get a dad vibe That was my dad. He cooked some food and after we ate, he sat down, put the World Cup on and fell asleep immediately. Yes. I talked to my father over the weekend and I was like, what you been up to? He's like, Oh, I'm just watching the World Cup. this is I was not there for this, but probably the most eventful thing of my weekend is might My family was out in in Ohio Like in southeastern Ohio hanging out at this this lakehouse and the first night they were all there My seven year old niece was fishing. And put a fish hook through my nine year old nephew And Apparently he took it pretty well. Okay. That's a nightmare. Yeah, but but the rest of the kids were just screaming and I heard about this. was like. I was really bummed to like not be out there with everybody, but when I heard that I was like, No, I'm good. That would have been terrible. Yeah. Oh my go. Yeah, yeah. the fishing hook on your mouth or like wherever it was hooked. It's like right in the middle of his cheek. Like it kind of looks punk as hell. L the picture of him sitting at the ER just like giving a peace sign. like that's pretty rad, but no. yeah. You're gonna not let live him down. He's gonna be the hey, rememember how you hooked Yeah in the face? Yes that's next. It is it is kind of like a family rite of passage to go to the lake and get injured in some way. Like I got thrown out of a golf cart. Dad almost got killed by my grandfather on an ATV. Like there's you know, those firework burns are just like a constant. Like there's's always something That's true. ATVs are high key dangerous. I love ATV writing. I haven't done it in a while, but I used to go every other year with like a church group. Yeah. I used to go to church But one of the years The guy was driving up the hill and like you're not supposed to drive fast because you don't know how Like steep the downfall is Yeah the other side But he just went off of it and just went and hit like a ditch and I don't know what part of the ATV like stabbed him into the tummy? Yeah And it was like one of those things where if it Any bit one way or the other, it could have hit something vital, but it just so happened it just hit flesh. So he was safe. Yeah, that it was bad. Yeah. I mean, that's the fun though. You know, like you're describing this to me. I'm like, hell, yeah, you got to go full speed. wrist No Ied or something I same this same like lake And this used to be strip mining country and my my grandfather bought it in like you know, the early sixties or something It be Father's Day. I know, I know. Doesn't she know you work or something? She does. I want text her now but We so I used to live at this piece of property in Ohio, which like now has like forest and stuff. When it was my family bought it, it was literally like strip mining country and just covered in slag and looked like Mars. All right I we took a nineteen eighty nine Ford Festiva L, which is like a tiny piece of shit car. Turned it like took off the hatchback, turned it into a flat bed. spray painted it, you know, like put new shocks on it and like like We did a monster garage. Yeah yeah And I took it out in the middle of the woods one day and it only got two radio stations. It got a Christian station that would always be like psalms and stuff And then a classic rock station. and I there was a huge tree in the way And I was like, God, I don't wantna have to like reverse all the way down this like path. And so I put on the classic rock station. It's Thunderstruck by ACD. And I was like, hell, you know, I was watching a lot of jackass at the time. I felt indestructible. And I went back and I just fucking flarted this fallen tree. And would you believe the tree stopped the car? I just smashed my head on the steering wheel while blaring thunderstruck. I was like, ye That's crazy bro. that's, you know, then you got to get fireworks involved. You know, you gott to be like shooting a Roman candle out the window just for kicks. You know, it's like it's it's what you gott It's what are people alive? That's the question. I don't know. That's the question. I don't know. Well, let's anyways, yeah, so this was my weekend was not that eventful. I sat around I read, I played God of War, likeike, you know, it was it was good, but you know, out in Ohio, shit's going down. That's where it's going down. Yeah. Go to Ohio you guys. Yeah, man. Buckkeye state. Okay, let's get into the news we have missed. Since last we were here, we got a new Spider Man brand new day trailer and a new TV spot m I'm super stoked for this movie you know, I didn't need a new trailer to get me more stoked, but it was like the sort of thing where I was like, Yeah.. Like the first trailer was kind of like a moody like sad vibes and this one felt more like, oh yeah, this is gonna to be fun as hell. Its gonna to be super fun and they gave a lot more like information about like what exactly is happening. Yes. I mean they showed straight up that Tomal has like bio weebs. Yeah. we were kind of like guess we do that Yeahah, but just also, why do they keep going and like it splirting out? That's so nasty, dude. I don't know. It feels like some exec was like Don't kids love pimple popping videos? Let's get some of that going in there. You know I mean I guess I wanted to emphasize the grossness because I think even in the No way home. Even in no way home, him and Andrew Garfield are kind of gross. Bi it was crazy. So it's emphasizing that When just imagining you have webs in your arm, you could squeeze it out. That's gross. That That is so gross. Yeah, I am I know I'm in the minority on this. in that not only do I not like Toby as Spider Man But I prefer bio webs to web shooters. They make more sense to me. Oh yeah, think But I do kind of like that if you've been used to web shooters, then you start making webs. you're like, what the hell is this? You know No, it's gross, but I love it. I you know what? I'm I used to be maybe just because I'm in this industry where we like know of all these like U we kind of know ahead sort of like rumors of what's going to happen. Yeah. I like that they showed just they just showed Hulk. You know, it' was just like, oh, yeah Hulk's going to be in the movie. Yeah That's sick, especially because we've been people been clamoring for Svage Hulk for so long. Yes. L no one, a lot of people don't like smmart Hulk, which I get it I like Smart Hulk, but I like them as a change of pace, not the new norm. Yeah exactly. You know what I mean? Like So we have Savage Hulk how do you feel about like We were For all intenses purposes The villainous character in the trailer is Ge Greay. Like definitely knows Ge Greay I do feel about that being the case because As the introduction to Jean Greay and she's kind of playing this villainous role. Yeah, I feel that's really interesting An interesting take on Ge Greay ass a character. My guess is that Gene Gray and this is not I want to be clear, this is not a spoiler. this is not based on anything I've read. This is just Berg thought. Yeah Um my my take is that Ge Gray is going to be doing something that feels villainous and then we'll get more context and either it'll be someone's pulling her strings or, you know, she's doing it for reasons that we don't have access to in the first half of the movie or whatever. like I think she will be revealed to be Heroic U although potentially misguided in her heroism, you know, like I think that that's going to be her arc. That's very much a guess. I don't want anyone to think I read something that That isn't out there or something. but But I also kind of like that the That the movie knows the audience is savvy enough that they kind of have to come at it from a weird Right. You know, like we've we've had at this point Seververal Ge Grays, you know, u between the Fox films and Fox films, the rebooted Fox films was the animated series. YeahXen ninety seven. like've we've got a bunch of different takes on her and I kind of like Similar to how I was really a big fan of the ultimate series that Marvel was doing in the Os, I like that they're like, no, here's our version of Gean Greay, you know. So I'm sure to see that. The thing I'm most excited about from the trailer is all the different ways of webbing things that he's doing. Oh when he does the little torto Josephin and you know what I'm talking about? Yeah, That wass so good. Although man, it's so funny the memes some of the memes come out was like a high schooler me and as a high schooler just likeay spraying everywhere I mean it gross. Listen. I get it. Listen It is alsoso they presented it as gross, okay. They made they made the the worm the worm, the the string stuff web stuff really nasty looking. Yeah. That's what they're going to they're going Looks like jizm man. What say to say Children avert your ears, but The webbs look like Jiz. It does, it does. and he's spraying it everywhere. It's not okay. But I like he's creative. They're doing like yeah, because even in one of the other clips There's like an explosion of webs. Yeah. So it's not going be just stringy webs. It's gonna be like No Hines, which is really nice. I I remember you saying that like spiders actually do have multiple. Yeah yeah. it's part of what I was so excitedd see is like there's a there's a great So a lot of you may know David Abro is the voice of Planet Earth, Blue planet, all this stuff Back in the olden times, he used to be on camera, like as like a host who had traveled these places, and he has a series called Life of Insects And I believe the third episode is all about silk. notot only in spiders, but in other insects And it's a great introduction into all the different ways insects use silk sppiders can make, you know, basically their spinarettes or like these. you think of them as tiny toothpaste tubes with different kinds of toothpaste and you mix the toothpaste in this way and it makes a fluffy web versus like a stringy web versus a stretchy web, you know And so they have a whole bunch of different kinds of webs, which has always been part of the web shooters appeal is that, you know, Peter always has these like kind of different ways he's working them But I'm excited to see him be like, no, no, no. now I can just do this Yeah the way the spiders do it. Yeah. Yeah. suuper cool. I'm also all the new things I think I'm really excited about. I'm also excited to see how they do gene Greay just because Yeah, like in the trailer, she's very like teasing and very like sassy like when she's like, Oh, how how are you dealing with the monster inside you sm man. Time to take a look at MJ or whatever. It's like, whoa She's branding. It's crazy. Yeah. But you know, she's ultimately she's an X men. She's going be good. There's some good reason she's does she's doing whatever she's doing U Probably that the ODC like it'll be a flip. Yeah. I think it's going to be a A actually the evil one. Yeah. Treamele Telman turns out to be like, you know, King asshole or whatever. Yeah. exactly in his character I presume he's a delightful human being based solely on the way he dances on severance In other Marvel News on Father's Day this past weekend, Robert Downey Jr. shared a cran drawing on Instagram of Doom with a Ch. Yeah. And two were they balloons or kites that had the anti fantastic four and anti Avengers marks on them. Thisly one of those Heights kind of m sense because it's a pannel, but I forget. it's something H U I I'm tearing up because doctor Domb is so I wish he was my father. That's what I wanted. That was when when you had to go see your fcus. I wish you were more like doctor Dom. I wish you had magic and science together. I don't wantan to see your face. I want to go to life area now. U it's I really I think it's really emphasizing the like the parent childness of the entire film. Y. And we've been like kind of talking about this whole time Uh, which I guess they' yeah, they're really pushing that because, you know, doror Doom as I know it, I don't know if I necessarily Clock him as a father first. I know he has children, like he has a daughter. that's like important There's so many doom stories, you know since he was introduced in the sixties. I want to say like mid late sixties. You know, we're looking at like sixty years of doom canon that they can pull from But it does seem like there is some kind of like paternity childhood, you know, rearing theme going on based on The trailers that came out, not trailers, teasers that came out before the Avatar movies in January or whenever that was You know, and all the other stuff we've seen So it's like nice confirmation that that's a theme I remain steadfast in if you're going to be doing this kind of like cheeky marketing for the movie You also need to be doing actual marketing for the movie and release a trailer. Yeah you know, but and and some people online have been like, hey, Chill, there's no trailer yet. bigig deal. I'm like, no, it's not that there's no trailer. It's that they've been doing this like really like ketish ki like o, you know, like what if we show you a field of green and zoom out? It's like you guys are clearly marketing You're just refusing to do like the normal first step in the marketing playbook And I would accept all this other stuff so much more and be so much more excited for it If I wasn't made to feel like Hey, we know we have your attention. so fuck you, we're going to do a comp. Yeah. Hey guys, I'm Brian, the host of Brian Enton Investigates. Follow Funny You Ask with Ike Baronholz on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts You know, I've expressed that before. I'm not trying to just be a broken record, but it does make me think that I think they're just gonna to wait until Spiderm Man is done with to like really push. Yes. Doomsday. I guess they don't want to cannibalize their own like marketing stuff. Well, and it might be the case that something from It might be the case that Spider Man shows up something from the right. you know, it might be sort of a Far from home, you know, infinity War endgame kind of a thing where it was like, well, we can't really market this movie without spoiling something. And if that turns out to be the case I will genuinely be like, yeah, you know what? that made sense And still, right now, I'm annoyed. you know, And at least with the descriptions that we got from Eric of like what the actual trailer is, it's not like the They don't have to show anything. There's plenty of other stuff to show not cut U Actually, I was kind of like thinking about with the Spider Ran trailer too. The trailer that officially got released was like just slightly different from the leaks that got leaked. Yes. And I'm wondering if they just like scramble to be like, let's just try to make it a little bit different or if that was like a previous cut Um, I don't know, it's just interesting that All the same beats were there Yeah. like slightly different footage. Yeah, J just like trimming it a little bit here, trimm it a little bit there. I mean, that sounds to me I have one of my close friends. is an editor for a major tech company and I won't say anything else unless I accidentally say something I'm not supposed to Um But I mean, he's such a pro, like he won't tell me shit about what he's working on until after it's out. But like there's always sort of like a final polish round of notes where, you know, its it's a one to punch of the high level, you know, creative directors and VPs of marketing and stuff wanting to get in there and be like No no, no, trim this up, time that out, you know and And like, you know, then you have the various departments are like this this FX shot is not quite dumb, but this one is. so we can put this in instead. You know, like there's, there's all of these little Um Compromises, workarounds and straight up choices and preferences that come in at the very, very end. And so I wouldn't be surprised if the difference between the leak trailers and the final trailers was just that very normal process.. You know. That makes sense. Okay, great. We also got some other trailers. Shrek five. Thoughts. Freick five. I mean I'm actually just mostly like, whoa, they kind of changed a lot. Granted, the first teaser we got was just a teaser. Yeah. but the vibe and the story they're trying to tell it feels like so different. because the first trailer was so focused on the daughter character. U and kind of the TikTokyness of things But this one is like a lot It's like way different. They're going to like the far, far, far away land or whatever, like super far away land in this one and also more focus on the two sons They barely show the daughter character. She kind of is in the background on a witch's broom somewhere. But I'm like I feel like they Swy. The response to the first teaser and we're like, we got to change things go because people are not happy about it That teaser. So Okay, so I'm going age myself in front of your eyes. Whoa. I remember Smashmouth from before Shrek. I remember when Walking on the suun was their big single. I remember them in mystery Okay. So I've seen the first Shrek movie, but probably not in a long time U And I don't think I've seen any of the sequels. Whoa. So se two It was the good one. I don't think I don't think so. That's crazy. I mean, you know, the would the first Trek movie must have come out when I was like, if not a senior in high school, then maybe like early college. Yeah, fair enough. you know, which which it hits different watching it at that age. You know, and I haven't had a lot of cause to go back and like rewatch it except for the fact that my My wife has been so shhrek pilled by brain rot memes that that like her saying donkey randomly like in response to something is like a thing I'm aware of And one time she passed out on the couch and I put Shrek on so she'd wake up to it and feel weird. That mean So I haven't seen I haven't seen anything, you know, so I watched the Shrek trailer, but I was like none of these characters mean anything to me. You know, I it all just kind of like goes Yeah in one ear and out the other. ye It's it's the kind of movie that I will wind up watching if my daughter wants to watch it. Um She also, oh man, that's probably what she was call me. She went' saw That'woy Story five last. Right. And I told her to tell me about it. She called and I was like, I'm working out. You told me to tell you about it. Yeah, I know, I know. That's fair I will say Shrek five You know, I like the Shrek franchise. I think it's a lot of fun, but it is off the IP reboots and most of them are like nostalgia grabs, I think Shrank is one of the most Like if you if you don't know what's going on in Shrike and you go to Shrek five, I feel like you'll be so lost. Yeah because More than the other movies, there's so many characters that already exist that have already been introducing One, two, four to reintroduce them in this movie is going be like a whole thing. So I'm interested to see how well it does with like the younger audience Um, or people who haven't seen Trep Yeah. I mean, Shrek still has like the memeness of it. Yeah. peopleeople like Shrek as a meme. I can't tell how much of anybody's love of Shrek in twenty twenty six is genuine love of Shrek? orr like this is so fucking dumb. I'm going to meme the hell out of it. You know what I mean? Like there' There's so many layers of Irony, sarcasm and insincerity surrounding the Shrek fandom that I from the outside, I find it impossible to pierce And I think sureah. And I think someone like my wife would say like, well, I like it because it's stupid. And it's like, well, then what does that mean? Do you like it? or is it you know, like those are distinct categories Right. But but yeah, so we'll see. We also got a trailer for Disney's Hext new property. Uh this look this looked fun to me, you know, like again, probably not a movie I'm going to rush out and see unless my my daughter wants to see it U But looked like a fun coming of age like, hey, I discovered magic powers Yeah thing. you know. It is kind of those like classic I'm the weird kid and something's weird, but then I find something to like Yeahah, here's my community. I found my people. Yeah. this one's magic, you know, kind of Harry Potter esque. Yeah. I will say though, even though I think the movie looks fine For me, Disney and Pixar and I know they're different entities, but I'm just grouping them together been a little bit their style has been. Boring late in a way that hasn't really grabbed my That was why we got so excited about Gotto, right? Like finally looked distinct compared to something like Sony Yeah, you know, that where every movie feels like, oh, this is not only this movie's own artistic style, but it fits the themes in the story and you know, like Like Mitchells versus the machines, it feels distinct from Was teeenage Nitch Turtle Sony, you know, like like those two feel distinct, feel distinct from Spider verse, you know, like I mean, in spider Rse, they play with the frame rates so that when like Miles finally gets his groove, you know, like that then he's smoother like it's You know, I feel a real innovation coming from that side of animated films that I don't feel from Disney Pixar. Yeah. That's not a judgement on the quality of the films themselves, you know But I totally hear what you're saying. Yeah. It's just kind of disappointing to me just because Disney used to be the kings of this. Yeah. they were the forefront of animation and now it feels like they're falling behind someone on Twitter did like It was kind of ragging on them with a side by side comparison of the hex trailer and the trailer for Oh, what was a movie? It's a Dreamorks movie I was like two girls from the Philippes, but like Oh my go It come out recently? No, it's it's going to come out. Dream works Filipino movie U Forgotten Island So there's a trailer for Forgotten Island. It's about like these two girls who are like best friends with their kids and they're growing apart and they get transported to this magical island. but the whole gimmick is that The longer they stay in the island, the more they forget about each other's pasts. And so it's this like struggle of like tryrying to remember your best friend or your childhood, but like it's like another growing up thing, I think. Yeah. Yeah just like falling out of touch with people and being like, I can't believe we used to be the same person as now There's nothing yet. But you know, not only is that concept you know, more novel. just the way that the trailer was cut, the way that the animation, the way they animated it, I just felt so much more fresher Uh And just seeing it side by side was just particularly like, you know was that and Someone pointed this out with the trailer for Ellio. and who knows if this is actually what Disney did, but they noticed that in all of the shots, at least in the trailers and maybe in the movie itself The subject is always center frame. and their theory is that it's to make it easier to be cut for vertical format Yeah When you see that as the When you have that context, you kind of notice it also in hext where everything is a center frame. And so it just kind of leads to a bland looking movie. So interesting.' animation is meant to be like, whoa, it's a caricature of real life, you know? Yeah And because of that, there should be much more dynamic stuff with it. So it just makes me, especially because hext is a original IP Because There's nothing. for them to like there's no previous visual language exact established. They could They could go crazy with it, whichich is why it's a little disappointing But you know what? This is just not at Disney' era I don't know. This' is not Disne' att least in the animation front. This that's not their era. This is the land of Sony animations and DreamWorks animations, which I think currently Yeah I mean, Son is killing it on animation. They're they're they're they're destroying it. It's great Let's talk non animation for a minute I put this in the prompter because I was curious about it. I don't know if Brian cares, but. we got a new trailer for Clara and the Sun today, Taika Yi Ti's adaptation of Kazuo Ishigoro's sci fi novel Um the trailer looks The trailer feels to me as someone who read the book feels a different very different in tone from from the source material I can't tell how much of that is You know, Taikaaiti kind of carries his own sort of like you know, childish like levity with things, even in something like JoJo Rabbit, which is ultimately like a pretty heavy movie. You know, so for me coming at it from the book, I saw the trail was like Maybe, although Jenet Orteega looks phenomenally well castast, What were your thoughts? I'm curious? Yeah I find that interesting. I mean, I'm always I'm kind of a sucker for stories about like What is What does it mean to be a human? What does it mean to be conscious? What does it mean to be whatever? So that's what it looks like to me, the story is about like an AI creation or like a toy robot friend who like learns to be human or what it means to be human U And then somehow the family, all that stuff like that seems interesting to me. I think honestly more than that concept itself is just I like Taikoi TV stuff And Jenna Orteego looks really good in this role. Shes it's also so fun to see her playing a Wednesday. Yeahight you know, like she, it seems like she's having a lot of fun with it, just just based on the trailer which I'm like, Oh, yeah, great And I love Amy Adams, you know, like I love Natasha Leone. like it look it looks like a really solid. forecast I tend to like Tko White TT more than I don't, although I recently watched Thor Love and Thunder, which is it's I can't quite put my finger on why it's tough, but it is. Yeah because it's so similar to Ragnarok. It should be Yeah. No that's what I was was. And it has parts I really like. I don't think it's I think people like really hate it on it Um And I get it, but I think people got like a little bit like too worked up about it Um But yeah, so I'm curious about Claire on the Sun. I think the book is really interesting I think Tikea White TT is due for another like, you know, Jojo Rabbit Hnt for the Wilder People type film. So I'm curious to see what what he does with this, but But yeah, the if you've read the b I don't want to say I don't want to spoil anything for people who haven't read the book, but there is a disconnect for me tonally between the book and the trailer and I'm I'm open to it, but it's there. Yeah We also last week got our first look at President Curtis, the new Rick and Morty spinoff, which will be premiering in July I Spoiler alert my wife wrote on on the first season. I don't want to know that yet. spoilers. Spoiler. Yeah, yeah. I said spoiler. Yeah. What did I mean I didn't say full disclosure. That was what I meant. Yeah. That's not a spoiler. That doesn't What to hang out anything So yeah, so I will be attending the premier event in a couple weeks. Animation premieres are great because I can just dress the way I normally dress and everyone else is like, yeah, who cares? You know. But u But yeah, first the first trailer looked fun it wasn't a trailer. It was just like a scene from the show. I was surprised they chose a scene without Keith David in it because it's all about David's present character. Yeah, so that's that's going to be on my radar coming up very soon Yeah, I mean, I've Iill am a fan of Rick and Mortarty. I think that world is really fun. And I think there was Maybe a good play to not show a clip with President Curtis just to be like, you know, even though he's like, I guess the rick of this S U having a strong like secondary cast, I think is I do think it's much more of an ensemble Y than than than Rick and Morty was at least when Rick and Morty first started. I do think the intent ofind presresident Curtis is, you know, and people in the comments are like, oh, this feels like inside job, but for Broick and Morty, which is like, yeah, great But yeah, so I'm stoked for it. you know, I have because because my wife wrote on it Like there is so much wrapped up for the two of us and like the response to this show of like Oh sure. Yeah, like if if the if the Rick and Morty fans who are like Rider dies, like, you know, who aren't just like Royalland fanboys like come come and show up for it Great If the Gimme My saauce Bitch crew shows up, you know, like that's not good, you know, like So it' it's the Rick and Morty fandom is really runs real hot and real cold. And which which one you get is always a little bit of a gamble. So we're hoping the good ones show up I'll show up for it.. Itnes f. Thank you. Thank you. I think the best part of Rick and Morty is when like the sci fi gets really stupid. And I think every time it's an episode with the presidents, the sci fi is like Stupid. Yeah. It doesn't make its if you is stupid in a normal Rick and Morty likeike turning into a turkey. Yes, I was going to say the Thanksgiving episode is Yes. And hopefully like, you know, it' all you know, hopefully people will please watch it. if please Please message all the execs, you know relentlessly, saying, give us more seasons of this Beacause also at this point now I know a lot of the other writer room I'm like, these are all great people. They're all very funny So yeah I'm excited for that. GTA six released a video showing the new cover art, dude. And that's at ten million views Imagine just being part of Rockstars it's a guaranteed hit. It's a guaranteed hit. It's a guaranteed hit. I mean' crazy people are hungry. It is On the one hand, it is a guaranteed hit. I think it would be very surprising for GTA six to bomb. However The amount of development time and capital that has gone into GTA six alsoso means that like what might be a mega hit for a regular game sure will not even scratch the surface for what they need to recoup in costs However, it bears mentioning that GTA five, or GT Oline you came out with GTA five was at one point Uh the most profitable entertainment product ever made. Yeah. So not the highest revenue, the most profitable, you know? And so that's what Rockstar is banking on here. Yeah. People are coming into this game expecting to play it for a decade, which is wild. A. You know, and But but it is to me Video games don't even have boxes anymore. I've been buying everythingly since like PS four Switch one era, you know, like So to know that there is cover art and that's a big deal is like what? Hi everyone. I'm Whitney Cummings. and I have a podcast called Good for You where I don't deliver the news because I'm not a door, but I will give you the weirdest take and truest opinion on the news. The world is insane and sometimes it takes an insane person to make it all make sense. And when it comes to what's going on in the world, I promise. to bum you out because that is social media's job. If you want to laugh about this whole nightmare called life, check out Good for You newew episodes every week People just want anything GTA six, I think. Yeahes for sure. for sure. Please give me more news. I mean, I think I'm not like a GTA like rid or die Uh I When I was young, my father did legal work for take two Yeah became two K. And so I played the the PS PS one ports of GTA one and two when they came out. And then GTA three obviously Allright Like I haven't really come back to it. like just open world games are not my thing, even though I think they're like pretty great games and really well done. and you know, But I Even for me, man, that trailer with the Tom Petty song for GT six, like that was a great fucking trailer and like that got me really excited for the game. Yeah. You know, So like, I will probably check this one out I' mean honestly same just because The GTA hype has never been higher Uh, and Yeah I've also haven't really played any of the the previous GTAs. where now that everybody's looking forward to this, I'm like, I kind of want to ride the wave. Yeah, I want to ride the w I want to ride the wavave. Yeah. Yeah playay this game U I'm yeah, I'm super, I'm super excited for it. in other video game news, you know, because u God of War Lo Fe got that like twenty three minute. like gameplay look. Me and my wife went through and replayed God of War last week and now we're on God of War Ragnarok U and it's so funny knowing Everything that happens in Ragnarok and knowing, you know what's going on with Lofi That like so much of the first game is like, by the way, The kid is Loki And his mother secretly a giant. You know, it And so like you're playing the first game and like you get to the end and that's like meant to be like the Boom, you know, check this out and you're like, Oh yeah. yeah, yeah. no, that's interesting, you know But those games are great. I'm super excited for Lo Fe, but But yes, is it is very cool U That was my weekend, basically. I played God to War and I read Cersei. For those of you who are asking what book I'm on, I'm rereading Ceri to prep for the Odyssey in July And man, Ceri is a great way to prep. It's real good. It's real, real good Um So We're going to get to house the Dragon seeason three momentarily. We're leaving it to the end to avoid spoilers, which I should have said at the beginning. But you released your first video essay this week? Yeah. You gott to send that around. I should. I should post it on our slack or something. Yes. No, yeah I mentioned this last week, I launched my channel and I recently launched my first video U I'm really proud of it U Even though you made it, Even though I made it. Yeah. And I know it's hard to believe.eresting. There's just a weird te. U so it's a really fun video and if you guys Would like to check it out. I'll link the video in the description or. Put it in pinn comment. Yeah. Or maybe I'll pin it. Who knows? Yeah I run this channel. I'll do whatever I want. Do it. Yeah, it's you know, I mentioned this, it's about rage games, Fudian games and why I think people play it U There are many reasons why someone would play it, but I took the route of like, I think it's about U like catharsis and like the feeling you get. it's a safe place to Feel rage Yeah in a world that doesn't really let you feel rage and it helps you form communities and whatever So I make my case there. I really like it And you know what, it might help the algorithm because I will that's not lie algorithm is not happy with my video . Nobody cares. Nobody cares. which is fine, I just fine. The algorithms giveiveh the algorithm, takeeth away. It's okay. I get it. I still think it's a good video. I just think the topic wise people probably just don't care as much anymore because the wave of Fudian games has kind of waned Well, because what when did baby steps come out That wasn't too long ago Yeah, That's the most recent. It's the most recent one by Benfati. But even then I think when it was big there was like these key games I was getting over it, Jump King Pga stuck U What was the one with everybody trying to climb their way up Yeah O up ye. When that was happening, that was peak Yeah Fot and game fever. Yes. It's definitely has died down. I do love this like splintering of video games into like sub sub sub genres. you know, like I was reading an article yesterday or the day before about some new Belatro like and I'm like Belatro like But like Belatro like is already like a deck building rogue like. Yeah, it's like Belatro is already a deconstruction of Slay the spire, you know. And so there's like Belatro likes now is like so funny to me You know, and I I get it's if you are a video game writer, you know, like if you're a journalist or a viewer or whatever, the The pressure to accurately label a genre, you know, and then the blowback everybody gets this second they come up with a new genre name. you know, is It's so wild like, you know, Steam recently labeled some sururvivors like a bullet heaven game and everyone was like, it's not bullet heaven. And I'm like, I Yeah yeah. That's as good a name as sururvivors like, you know, just trying to like take it away from the IP. So we don't endind up with another twenty years of Metroidvania, you know, But it is it is so funny to me how niche the genres get. And when you find the one that clicks with you, baby. That's a good that's a good feeling It's funny. I actually saw this game. It was I guess a Bolatra like, I don't know if you saw it' the same game. It was, but it was pool No, I haven't seen that. Yeah, it's like a pool game, but each circle or each ball you can like upgrade the ball and the different things when you hit things, give you multipliers and points. But the layout of like There's like the anntte and likeah the bet and I guess they like took it from Belachro, but I Gres just keep popping up. They just keep popping up. Yeah. I was more so in video games than any other Oh yeah. I mean, because I think also with video games, the distribution model is such that like They tend to be largely community based you know, Friend slop is a new another another genre that's popped up which I actually dislike the name of that one because it feels like it's just a dig on games that are trying to capture that like during the pandemic when we were like among us, you know, But yeah, but I do think video games spew out genres because so much of it is like, well, I'm one developer who made a game for me. Right, you know. And then it tends to be community driven marketing as opposed to the sort of top down corporate marketing where there is a little bit less innovation with genres. But even then you get stuff like Pragmata, which is like, you know, it's half puzzle game, half action game, you know there's interesting stuff going on. Let's talk about House of the Dragon seeason three. Dragon is Dragon time. Now This morning, Brian slacked me and said, I want to do the show about House of the Dragon today And I said, I haven't seen seasons one or two I will do my best to catch up by the time we take So I watched the like, you know, catch up video Eric made summarizing seeasons one and two And then I watched all of the first episode of season three. I'm gonna to go out on a limb here and say this is a good show. like watching this episode of S three, I was like, Damn, this is like really well done. I don't have. I don't know who half these characters are, or what their names are, what their alliances are, but like it was always very clear to me like what was going on and all that stuff. And I'm now inspired to go catch up properly on it. Yeah, I don't exactly remember Wh? but I do have a recollection that House of the Dragon generally was kind of a controversial show in terms of like It's split between people who really like and really don't like. Yeah. I couldn't tell you exactly why. so you guys will tell me in the comments. that's for sure But I've been I've been liking it. and I think this first premier episode for this season has been a solid premiere. It just like starts reallyally hard with like the fights, the like the sea battle. I think is cool. That was awesome. That' so cool. And so like, you know, we can we can do like a loose recap, you know, at the beginning of and this is the loosest of recaps because I wrote it and I was like, you know what? I'm going take I'm going to take some inspiration from Jonathan Van Ness and not look up the names of anybody This back For those you who remember Funny or Die, this was John Van Ness was on Gay of Thrones delightful human being. To me, at least. Okay, so the loosest of recaps, we start off with a lady taming a wild dragon cheep stealer. to be fair, all the names are like R I know they're like gay or R, they all have A or HAE. It is hard to I still can't remember it all So sheep stealer gets tamed by this by this lady. The burnt king, who I think was Aemon. Agon it was Aegon got burnt. Yeah. He sneaks away from King's Landing and gets captured pretty quickly. Matt Smith and the Tully Amy meet up with the old guard from the North and the Riverlands. Rhaenyra gets ready to head out, but she gets locked in the room by her son Jace The pirate tririarchy meets up with the Black fleet slash Corlus on the open seas and that's where we get the Battle of the guullet. There's a great sequence where Corless leads someone who I think is named bitchfist. I think I think her real name is Shiracco, but I think they call her bitchfist. I think that's the ship's name. The ship's name. Oh that makes sense because it rams her. Yeah. That's that's so fucking funny ye. because I was like, damn, that's a hell of a badass nick. It's also good for a pirate. yeah Okay, all right, that makes more sense. So Corlus leads the ship bitch fist into these narrows. There's a really great sequence of like them navigating that her like throwing the Lannister advisor overboard in his armor to like lighten their loads so they don't dr I thought that was awesome U Sheep stealers shows up, burns some Targaryens by accident because that dragon ain't tamed Jace's Dragon dies after being grappneeled and Jace dies along with it. Yeah. That's kind of the end of the episode. So There I just want to go on record Brian, I didn't even let Brian look at this summary before I put it imprompter. Any errors in there are my own. Come for me, not him. But u But yeah, I thought I thought this was great to the point where watching it, I was like, Oh, you know, the things that annoyed me so much about Game of Thrones that made me kind of walk away from from the franchise midays midway through that show's run were I didn't like it as an adaptation. I had read all the books, I knew them really well U And I felt like the show was spinning its wheels a lot I've not read Fire and Blood. and so I don't have that same kind of like, that's not how it happens in the novels. Energy, you know Um but it's also just reallyally I thought the the battle sequence was really well directed, really well shot, really clearly laid out. L I don't know, what were your thoughts of someone who has been waiting for this since the end of season two. I mean, I ight? I think this is kind of what The entire show like we know as part of dramatic irony it's going to all end really badly for basically everybody Yeah and we're kind of waiting for that to happen. Season one and two, we're all just build up building that tension for this to finally break. And I think now it's the start of that break where we get this first big epic fight between, you know, the two sides. Yeah. And the green in the blacks. The green in the blacks. And I I think what's Really? I guess fun about this and I guess war in general and what they're showing is how much of the fighting and war is It's personal and not really like there's no like Clear I don't know the words, but like There's a bad guy or good guy necessarily. It's just all people who have all these things that they want to fight and do and they're all doing things out of their own kind of selfish interest. but it just happens to a lign. and the result of that of these people who are powerful is like a massive scale war Uh, like You know, Jace feels like as the prince, he wants to feel heard and stuff. and every time, even though it's for his protection, every time his mom says like ignores him knock it off. He has more of like a desire to go out and fight. even th ifough he shouldn't and doesn't have to. Um, the Even though the leaders of the two Naval armies, they have their main mission It's really like the triarchy. The triarchy, the leader of the triarchy, the Siraco? Siraco, where she's like, I want to basically she wants to take down Coralus. Yes. That's like her main objective.. notot this whole it's all heists within heists. Yes, ye ye. Everyone is using this war as a means get their own goal. Yeah. And the result is the same. a result is still war happening, everyveryone dies, but it's just By It's a tragic it's really tragic to see how all this is going down because of misunderstandings because of all these different things. Yeah, it feels like, you know, and I think this is when the the Game of Thrones books are at their best You know, when you read a storm of swwords you know, and you get to these major events, things like, you know, the Red Wedding or or in I think it's in the second book in Clash Kings where it's the Battle of Blackwater. Like you see how like, yeah, these things do have like a high level strategic element for like, well, it makes sense to capture this keep. It makes sense to block off this waterway. It makes sense to take out this rival sort of a thing Um, When you start getting into the nitty gritty of like, well, but why is that the best solution to this problem? You find that the landscape is littered with petty grudges and ambitions. And I think something that George R. Martin did really well in the novels when he was still writing them is I mean, you know, he's put out a ton of novellas and stuff since dance a Dragon and so whatever. But but I think something he does really well is kind of illustrate how much All power really does is let people play out those petty grudges with people who have nothing to do with it impunity. you know. U I would say even in Kights of the Seven Kingdoms, U it's another showcase of like a kind of non consequential There was some family quarrels and via this knight who like notot like a fake night who wants to be part of this thing The result of it was like tragedy, the prince, the crown prince dying Uh was kind of like There was no real conflict, but like These devastating tragic events happen anyway. Yeah. I think the Game of Thrones world is kind of like really good at showing that kind of stuff U I remember in u I'm not like tuned into the How the internet or whoever or the people watching this, how they feel about it. But I know in U Eric's how they did your homework video, you kind of mentioned how some people wanted the All They wanted to see the two queens of both sides basically go crazy and have their power with with impunity Um Whereas in the show is showing it more as like, They both don't want the conflict to happen, but It's happening anyway. Yeah. It has its own momentum at this. Yeah exactly. So even though they both are trying to find different ways about the conflict it's ratcheting up anyway. And I guess I don't know how I feel necessarily with that, where on one hand it is more Interesting where it's like Uh The result of tragedy is sometimes beyond your control and it just happens, whereas I It could be more badass if like the quQeen is just like, I'm going to do what I want to do and whatever So I wonder what the general audience feels about that, but so far, I'm still liking it. I'm still like really enjoying it. Yeah. I mean again, having not read Fire and Blood, you know, I don't have anything to be like, well in the books. It was this way because then that leads to this thing three books later, you know, which I did have watching Game of Thrones and was probably Inufferable. Yeah. But I don't agree so quickly with me Inufferableall. You agreed very quickly We know this We know what are we thking you? What? Not even an ounce of pushback. I know I'm sure you were reasonable and well spoken. But you know, I think in general there is a A trope that I don't like for a few reasons of either reducing, you know, like in fany specifically like having like a madness, you know, where it's like, you know, if anybody has any kind of mental illness, they're a mustache twirling villain And then there's also a trope of Well, you know, if it's a female character and anything happens to any of her kids, she goes crazy and there's there's no consoling her You know, and I think that You know, for characters who are as impactful as uh that Milsons and Ryus are Rhayra Ren Raeny,Qeen Yeah Raenra. I think Brainus might be one of the dragons or maybe one of the other. I don't know. But But for characters that are going to be essential to a show, you know, you kind of want them to be a little bit more multifaceted because it opens up more storytelling opportunities, more interesting ways to tell story. It's You know, there's no need to use a chainsaw if you're getting by fine with a scalpel and Again, having not seen seasons one or two, you know, like some my my analysis of this is necessarily more shallow than someone who's been watching it all along and has read the source material Um, I found both of those I found both of the characters and performances compelling in a way that'm like yeah, I wouldn't change anything Yeah, u And I think it also fits the meta narrative of the original novella, which it's like It's a person retelling the stories he's heard from people. Yeah. so none of it is necessarily like strictly canon. Yeah. It's all folks like stories. And I think in a situation like this, if you don't know what's going on inside the minds of these people and you're observing it from the outside. It does look like two crazy people fighting for like pers. Of course. And so that's what the So I think it's giving that more context, I think is always's It's a good thing to give more com to that. Yeah, yeah, which I think they did very successfully. Now a couple other interesting observations I had while watching the Battle of the Gaallet, which I thought was really well done. I went through a brief largely because of hardcore history, but then in small part because of the Game ofrones Hcore Game of Thrones parody podcast I was doing at the time Um, Uh, yeah, I went through like a brief u like Ancient naval warfare like history binge. And I was there were a couple small details I was really happy to see represented well during the Battle of Gallet One was what a big deal fire is on a ship. And two was what a big deal having the decks slick with blood is. There's like one or two shots of people slipping on gore and that like being an important thing in a ship battle And I think like that That really just for some reason it felt like if that detail wasn't there, I probably wouldn't have noticed its absence But I really appreciated its presence. You know, I thought was was really great. Or even like when the ships ram into the other ships, the fact that they're losing balance and it's hard to fight on a let alone just water, but like if everything is rocking and shaking That would be crazy. Yes, be crazy. Yes. And you know, the Lannister Chud wearing his full armor and her being like, what's that way? off you go It's like Yeahah, like you wouldn't you wouldn't want that on a ship. I thought that was just a nice A nice little touch of how like, hey, these people they're using these pirates as a means of convenience. She knows it. She's going to get them back. Yeah I also loved the Dragon Vverse ship combat. and the thing it reminded me of is There's an author named Donna Staff. I think it's D A A N A ST d AF. who has written multiple books about prehistoric mollusquks, encephalopods and their evolution. And she also wrote Princeton University Press's Octopus book, which is great. The liives of Octopuses But anyways, she talks about how when in the early oceans before the bony fish evolved You had all these like, you know, like Allright Um, you know, like kind of like protoc crustration, crustaceans and arthropods who had like, you know, lived on the sea flloor And then all of a sudden you got these molluscks, things like you know, early Amonites or Orthoseris or you know, something like that that had these shells that they could float They literally just came out of a different plane of existence would just like tentacle down and eat something and go away. And watching the the Battle of the Gul, that was how the Dragons felt where it was like Yeah, man, Drag is just gonna to show up like, you know, and they had grappnals and stuff, which I thought was interesting, but But I loved just the fear of like Sorry, your whole ship is burning now man, bad luck, you know. It really showing the power of dragons how important it is in this world. Yeah It's having an air Force when people only as a Navy. Exactly. Yeah. But yeah, when the when they came to burn all the ship. I was like, dude, this is crazy. It's almost over. Yes. Which is why I think to show how impressive the triarchy are the right Triarchy. Triarchy, where like they know how to take down dragon via grapple stuff. I love that.taching it to an anchor, It was like, whoa, so that's so smart. Yeah, well, that was my other thing is watching that. I was like, oh, this is You know, what whalers used to do is they would harpoon a whale And then the end of the harccoon line would be tied to their like little long boat.. That's the Nantucket Sleigh ride is the whale's going around, but the force of having to drag the boat keeps it from being able to dive and tires it out. And I loved seeing that like, oh yeah, when you grapple, you know, hit the dragon with that thing It's not like an immediate like, you know, immediate kill But it will like over time, you know, and then it's like dragging it through the other ships and the rope is like its whole thing. I thought I just thought that whole sequence was So well done, it really felt like a lot of thoughtw and love and like kind of a childildlike glee of like, hell yeah, what if we had a dragon going after a boat got put into it in a way that I really enjoyed watching Yeah I have to mention Freaking Rayna Bringing in Sheep Stealer into battle though What was she thinking, man? That was that did was she freaking thinking. Also forgget my this just not everybody else's takeaway with Sheep stealer A dragon needs an Orthodont. I got huge giant huge underbite. I think they're really trying to sell that like this dragon is kind of dumb or kind of is not like all right in the head with the but it's I I get that because in the in the other u Seasons It's a whole thing with Reya like wanting a dragon, but none of the dragons is taking to her. Yeah. And so she wants to be part of her family, which is all dragon people. And that desperation is why this even happened at all What's like Girl, we're in a war She actually brought the dir she brought the derpy dragon into a nighal bight you know And she shot down her own people. Yeah. It just was not okay And then they were gonna her her siblings or her cousins or whatever were gonna like take her down until Jace realized like, Ohh my god, it's right up. Yeah. I can't hit her. I think that almost Ns not single handly, but that was a big factor why Jace wound up dying. Yeah, J wound up die. Yeah That's like bad. It's just This show is so good at making things like Yeah, somebody just wants to be part of the family and her desperation to do that. Yeah causes the downfall of her family. And also she's trying to do a good thing, right? Like she'sentally trying to help. She's like, I think I finally have a way I can pitch in. you know, like you you you really understand the character motivation Again withithout having seen the first two seasons Yeah, So yes, I really liked it. I think I'll keep watching it. You know, whether or not I find that I' still I talked to my father this weekend and he was like, man, Spider Man noir is great. Have you watched it yet? And I was like, I have. You know, but u So whether or not I find the time to go back and watch the first two seasons, we will see, But I'm certainly going to keep up with this one Do they know how many seasons they're trying to do I know A fourth is coming out. Okay And I'm like thinking that that's probably the last, but I think there's no confirmation that that's the last. R. I don't think they said final season.. But season four is a thing that has been green lid Okay att least for what I'm aware of, which is interesting because I feel like season three is going to be peak Everything is going go to crap and everything iss destroyed. Yeah. Maybe they're just going to deal with the aftermath in season four We'll see And maybe it more we see like more of what happens and it kind of leads to Night of the seven Kingdoms because I think that's happening about a hundred years after this whole ordeal. Oh really? Yeah. Okay Um, But we'll see, we'll see Bither way I'm ready for more destruction and more chaos and more heartbreak. Yes, season. Yes. And like watching it, I was like, I'm such an asshole, you know, because I put off watching this show because I was like, give thrones burn me you know And then watching it, I'm like, Oh, a dragon is basically just a sick ass dinosaur. Yeah. Yeah ast dinosaur. It's sick. And I feel like they also ued thes CGI budget for this season ' real. It's gonna be dragon fights. They're gonna go crazy because I think before they used to like, it's always in the caves or where it's night where you don't have to really Oh yeah, yeah. it was kind of daytime, they were like, we're gonna show you the dragons. It's dragonim U, so that's It's It's going to go crazy. and it's going to be really sad because they're already setting up how A. Was Amond was still in the was still at the castle because he wanted to protect the castle sacrifice himself, essentially a fight U Melicent Melic Wait, is that the Olivia Cook's character? Yes.. Millicent is like you gott to gleve, you trying to like do these sneaky ways trying to save him but make him leave in order for the castle to Be taken. U and then in the trailers we see that like a lot of the The citizens don't necessarily would like Queen Rera Raya Oh my God, these is names By next week I'll have them down down pat, but I do not I literally watched this episode two and a half hours ago. Yeah ye Yeah It' it's going to be another one of those things where things seem to go one way or another, but tragedy hits. and man, next episode where the queen sees that her son is dead is going to be devastating. Yeah. It's going to be devastating U It is And I guess this is just war. It is crazy how When he dies, it's a little Anntome Matric is not the right word, but it's very good qui it. It's yeah, it's not like a You know, he didn't like fly his dragon screaming into the side of the ship going like long live the blank. you know, like he just like hooks himself from the dragon surfaces justust gets shot Yeah Yeah, ye he dies. noody to bring home.
