I think in one of the quotes was from Emmy Pascal who was like Oh, this is gonna be like a more emotional impactful story rather than like world colliding crazy story. That's what you gotta do. I think once you get the scale so big, you just have to bring it in a little bit. Yeah. Just like one of my favorite trilogy of movies, the Trolls franchise How old is you? Bea the third one came out like two years. So I must I was twenty seven. L going. I'm in my twenties, okay? It's not weird yet Hello everybody and welcome back to the break room. You can tell today is a business day because of how many screens I have open in of me. I got a screen too. Yes, so today Brian and I are going to be chatting. We're taking the break room in a more casual direction where it feels like a work break room where literally we come when we are on our breaks from work Um So the two of us are gonna chat about a bunch of stuff, some of which will involve you. We hear you commentary. guys you guys are part of the world. You guys are part of the cono. You know, and and we'll take it from there. So let's let's start with the commentariat who is Pretty pissed with us right now. I think there's no reason to sugarcoat it. You guys can read the comments on the recent videos and on Reddit and everything else One, the one I'll address first is on Monday's episode, you know, we talked a lot about the box office returns of Mando Grogu and the state of the franchise. Neer of us have seen Mando Grogu Now We weren't reviewing Mando Grogu. There are times where we can't watch all the stuff we want to watch and we kind of have to prioritize based on what we're excited about, you know? And and I think talking about like, you know, where a movie falls In comparison to where the studio needs it to faall, that's a valid conversation you can have without seeing the movie. That in my mind was the conversation We were trying to have too the degree we fail to have that. happens I'm sorry. you know, like listen, this is the break room. Yeah' talking like, hey, you see the Mando movie? No, but it's crazy. It didn't do that well.. Yeah In the same way if a movie is blowing up at the box office, you're like, wow, I guess people really like this movie without having seen it, you know? And I think the difference there for us is Star Wars is So part of the Disney modern franchise thing at this point those movies do have such high budgets, the expectations for the returns on those budgets are so completely out of whack with what would be even a huge success for a more modestly budgeted movie. So that was That's that's part one. That's the combo the two of us were trying to have. There's another section of the commentary who are furious. It seems like not with either of us Um but also maybe with me, I don't know. U You know, about sort of a broad dismissal of certain aspects of the boys's family. weren't satisfied in season five That's fair. It sucks to not like something and have someone tell you you suck for not liking it. That's valid. I get that. I don't I've never been the type to take it that personally to be like, well, now I have to go on Reddit and get Eric to lock the comments for Rred because we're all being so toxic about it Um But you know, I will say my personal I also, I've seen a lot of stuff where it's like they' friends with the writers on the boys and now they defend the boys. We are not. I don't know anyone. I don't know anyone who works on the boys. I'm trying to think of even if I have any any friends who have been like you know, third background corpse in a scene or something like that. I don't think I do U nor do I have any friends on Daredevil Born again. My own personal preferen is, the boys did what it was trying to do a lot better than what Daredevil Born again was trying to do. , if you disagree with me That's fine. It's not going to affect my enjoyment of the boys or of Daredevil But part of what we're trying to do with Breakroom moving forward is be like, hey, this is more casual. This is me and Brian. We're not speaking for crritics for the internet with a capital I, you know it'll be more tight with our specific opinions. Yeah. and maybe maybe we' just argue with each other We just argue with the other We're the enemies here. You guys are not the enemies. You're just watching us argue with each other. No. I mean, truly like, you know, I don't wan to speak for Brian because I don't care for him, but that' the worst way to do it. Okay. Yeah it is We're on the show together, by the way. We're on the arch. You guys see what I'm talking about, what I have to deal with at work. This is why I come to a break room U But you know, it's like I feel fortunate to have a job where I can come on the internet and talk about the things I like and don't like and the reasons I like and don't like them. And if that lines up with your preferences, great. If not, I'm sorry. It is never our goal to actively antagonize or alienate the audience. So if that is happening, note heard, note taken,'ll do better in the future. Thank you for your patience I did also want to mention specifically about the Mandro Gregu thing. It just happened that the last weekend was Memorial Day weekend. Yeah. So like a lot of us had different plans Yeah. And a lot of us were also busy with other stuff and the people that could be on the break room happen to be Mienberg.. And we just happened to not watch it. And Mando Gregu happened to be a big thing on the news. So it felt like if we didn't talk about it at all, that'd be crazy. Yeah, that's even weirder. That's even weirdder likeike we just ignore it. I guess we could have been like, hey, we didn't watch it. We're ignoring it. no, but I I do think I do think state of the franchise is worth is worth reporting on But moving forward, we I want to be better at like watching the things and then talking about it a more informed way So notes heard We hear you guys. No turn So let's talk about Spider Man Brand new Day, which I've watched. U No, no, no, which is not out yet. but but we there's going to be an empire spread on Spider Man Brand new Day next week. And so we've gotten some sort of advanced quotes. One of the things that I thought was really interesting was Tom Holland talking about how his pitch for the for the movie had been Spider Man puberty. Yeah you know, which is so funny and just knowing what we've seen from the trailer of like, oh, his body' changing. It's like Yeah, great. You know, and for my money too the degree that Spider Man has always been a little bit of a coming of age story. you know, like I think that's that's spot on. And he he also had a quote that I really liked about how he felt very honored to be able to have Robert Downey Jr. kind of like pass the buck to him to take on Spider Man, not that Robert Downey Jr. was Spider Man, but there was still like a very nice sort of like older generation welcoming the younger generation in He would love to do that for someone in the future, whether that's Miles Morales or anyone else You know, And if so he would hang up his webs U, which Tom Holland is my favorite Spider man He's good Yeah. I think he's good. Y'all know I don't care for Toby. whichich is crazy. Toby is still my Spider Man. I gotta say, I just never, he was never my guy. He was just never my guy Even at the time, it was like not I like him. You know, like he's got a he's got a way I can I can see the vibes being weird, but I think that movie was the only my only intro is like Toby as a person. Yeah. I'm like this guy He knows how to swing webs and bio Weebs that he introduce bioebs. Ii That's what frustrates me is I think bio Weebs make so much more s. I know that Peter is smart People like that he's a tinkkeerer But I'm like, if he's so good at tinkering and he doesn't need to get bit by a radioactive spider. he could just tinker his way to beingider generally be Ironan Junior. Yeah, he could be Ion Man Junior. couldould have whichich is part of the passing of the torch sort of thing, but For me, I'm like, Spider bites you And you don't develop silk. You just get coming And spidey scense and there's no silk involved. You know? the spiders have spidey scense? It's not even kind of ye. they totally have sp. Yeah. So okay, y'all remember on Monday, I brought in my book on seaweeds I have another book, same series Spiders. and then there's another book actually I can get the titles in front of me right now. hang on. I keep a list of my books so I don't accidentally read something Does that happen a lot? Yeah, because I'll be like going through my shelf and be like Oh, here's a book that looks interesting. and then I'll be like, oh no, I already read this two years ago. Okay, so funny. The two books I want to cite here for you are the Biology of Spiders's thirird edition by Rainier F. Felix And then The Lives of Spiders by Himina Nelson, which is, I think more accessible than the first book But so basically what Spidey Sense is based on is the fact that spiders have You know, you picture a spider's leg, It's super hairy. Yeah Those hairs are nerve or sensory organs called trichoboth And the trichobothria are deeply sensitive to vibrations either in the air or through the webs. too the point where a lot of scientists have made the argument that like a spider's web is part of its expanded sensorium Kind of kindind of in the way that like if you had, you know, an earpod in one ear and you're M you know, your iPhone is a mic like out in the other room Your ear is functionally in the other room Those web that webbing in a lot of species of spider effectively extends their sensorium out there. But even without the web, those tricabothri are so sensitive to wind currents and stuff. and they have all different sizes of them. They're really fascinating A lot of the web stuff actually comes through small pressure sensors in their joints. But that's the idea is that a spider can actually kind of sense someone sneaking up behind it and be like, oh, crap because it has this expanded sensorium, but that's the sppidy sense. So why would you get bad? You can't make silk. Right. You gott you know expand that even further. Yeah, yeah. E it even further. Yeah, that's my thing. That's my thing. like if we're just inventing things, then Spider Man is Batman, you know, like But if we're getting bit, I also I like that like this This is like a second coming of like even though this is an older Spider Man It's like he's now actually becoming a Sider man Be before he was kind of effectively, I feel like a spider or Ironman junior. He had the iron spider ser. Yeah. Yeahah, ye Tony g him a lot of help. Yeah. And Tony's also the one who brought him into the fold war like yeah, yeah. But now we have a more grounded spidererman. I think in one of the quotes was from Emmy Pascal who was like Oh, this is gonna be like a more emotional impactful story rather than like world colliding crazy story. I love that personally because like I think you know, I'm rewatching, I'm basically binging the MCU for sake of Rotay Doomsday. You know, and it's like all stuff I've seen before, but you forget, you know, like Um, and So I rewatched Civil War last week and one of the things I really liked about Civil War is like What's at stake is really just kind of do we put Bucky in prison Like that's most of the story. And then what's really at stake is like are capap and Tony still going to be friends after this, you know, like and It's great. It works really well. You know, likewise in Guardians volume three, like it's kind of just about we got to save Rocket's life. And I think that You know, if those were the only kinds of stories we were telling in the MCU with these heroes, I would be like, come on, let's blow something But as as a change of pace, especially like, you know, kind of in this new era, like, you know, post post end game, post the failure of the Kang saaga, you know, and all that sort of stuff. I'm stoked and especially for this character. Yeah Like there are characters where I'm like, I don't care about your personal life But Spider Man, I'm like, that's the whole. Yeah, ye. That's the whole thing. Yeah. Yeahah. he's torn between two worlds. That's what you gotta do. I think once you get the scale so big, you just have to bring it in a little bit. Yeah. Just like one of my favorite trilogy of movies, the Trolls franchise. The first movie's about saving your community. The second movie is about saving the world. Yeah. The third movie was about saving a boy band. So they really just brought it back. Quite the ark. Yeah, no seriously. I was like, even after that. it was just a boyand a band of brothers if they can be still be family I will say trolls underrated, Mbe not underrated, but everybody should watch trolls. I love the trolls. I just I want to ask two questions and I promise I'm not going to judge you for your answers. Do you have kids? No. Okay, ye ye yeah, yeah, that'sine That's fine No judgment, no judgment. And then the second question is how old is you Well, when I was watching it, I was when did day it start? I was in my life Because the third one came out like two years. So I must I was twenty seven. Lve I'm in my twenties, okay? It's not weird yet In a few months when I'm thirty, it will be weird, but until then, I think I'm solid. So just like the first Trolls movie like what year do you think that came out Got to be twenty fourteen twenty sixteen. twenty sixteen. You would have been nineteen. I would have been nineteen. Yeah, okay. I think that's proper Trolls's age. I remembered Trolls the toys. h That's Iills for me. Is for me. All right. All right All right, All right. All right, all right, all right. Great. B. I mean, I'm super excited for Spider Man. I think that's It's very neck and neck for me in terms of summer movies I'm stoked on with Spider Man and the Odyssey For me, I think Odyssey beats it out a little bit only because I didn't like Troy U and thought you were gonna say trolls. I was like, what does that mean? Beause I didn't like trolls. What does that? It like if you're like if you're into like Greek mythology, you've basically got two options trolls or the Odyssey. R. I didn't like trolls Hey guys, I'm Brian, the host of Brian Enton Investigates. Most other true crime and breaking news podcasters are in their basement or studio Not me, I am out on the road every single week. From inside prisons to murder scenes, to active manhunts There really isn't anywhere I won't go. Coast to coast, I am all about old fashioned boots on the ground reporting You have to show up in person to cover the news and get the secrets And I have a way of getting people to talk I cover stories others ignore with a relentless determination to get to the truth Listen to Brian Enton invvestigates every day, wherever you get your podcasts Hey, I'm Ike Barren Holz. On my new show, Funny You Ask, trivia starts the conversation and then things immediately go off the rails. I ask a question. My guests think they know the answer? Sometimes they do. More often, they do not. And then the conversation takes a turn. One trivia question turns into stories about career highs, painful bombs And behind the scenes moments that probably should have remained private. You'll hear confidence, misplaced confidence, bold guesses, wrong answers, quick laughs, and the slow realization that maybe this was a bad idea to say out loud. If you like smart comedy, sharp conversations, and trivia that exist purely to melt people's brains, this is funny you ask with me Follow Funny You As with Iike Bererenholz on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts U You know, but for me, u Uh you know, the Odyssey wins out, but it's like kind of by a hair. and I think part of that is only because I've had Th Spider Man movies I really like already. There's a little bit more of a mold for that, but everything I've seen from Brand new Day looks fucking rad. I love Tom Holland. I love Din Daniel Creton So I think that's going to kick ass. Yeah I think that Spider Man is going be a pretty solid entry in this current era of MC. I would say like the weakest of the Spider Man movies and it's still a very good movie is the one with mysterious Spider Man far from home like And it's like That's still very good. Yeah. Really my only knock on is like Spider Man's in Europe. come on, let's get back to New York. What doing? know like He's American guy. Yeah like it is cool to see him in Venice and stuff. and I'm like that's not where he should be, you know. But and that movie is still great, stillill has like really great sequences, you know, so so I'm very much looking forward to Brand new day. I'm looking forward to this being part of a new trilogy, part of a reset The Spider Man Puberty idea really like Tickles me pink and also we should say T like in the quotes I've seen so far has been like They didn't really go for it, but there's elements of it in there, which is like great, love that. loveo to hear that. Okay, great. Well let's let's move on from Spider Man to We got some set photos of Bullseye on the set of Dred Double Borne against season three, which he's coming. I didn't know they're going to bring him back It really seemed like we were want be done off into the sunset. I mean, you know, who knows if And so in the set photos, he's got, you know, a cowl with the the white deadpool eyes, which I genuinely love the look of. And buulls eye was one of my favorite parts of Daredevil Born against seeason two, which as the commenters have noted, I did not care U, but you know, I'm curious with season three like You know, are we going to see him doing whatever he's doing for Mr. Charles overseas Is he coming back to New York for some reason having been like I mended my ways. I, you know, started a leopard colony or whatever, you know. Yeah, it's also interesting because I When was season three was approved pretty early. so they're still shooting season three was green lit before season two began airing Yeah Um And I think it might have been I think it might have been Greenlit way before that too. I don't know if I' top my head though Yeah Well, either way, I guess they knews like bullseye had to be like a mainstay in the series. I mean he's great. He's great. Well so good. I mean, you know, it's tough because one of the things that I think We all learned when we found out about the British TV ecosystem was like the way a lot of British TV works and, you know, the office, the original office being like the kind of prime example of this like You have two. short seasons And then maybe there's a Christmas special to wrap everything up But the British TV system is designed much more around limited series. You have an ending in mind Whereas the American TV system is designed much more around like Hey, if we can get this to go for twenty years, we will You know, and Disney doesn't have any shows like that yet. Maybe Daredevil is the show they're going to try to do that with. U You know, But so if that's the case and you have a character who fucking rules like Bullseye It's really difficult for the longevity of the show if that character hass been said goodbye to in a way that makes sense. you know, even Yeah, yeah,. Even Foggy, they're like, we can get a flashback of foggy in here and it's like, or you can let his story be done to make room for new stories, you know So the difference between those two being like, I was never that attached to Foggy. I've been very attached to bullseye from the moment he showed up Um So, you know, so I'm curious to see how that how that works back in It's going to take a lot for me to watch Daredevil Born again season three. I had given up on season one halfway through Thats Season two, I was like, they they Disney came out and they were like season one had some kinks in it We worked him out Here's season two. and I was like seeason two isll a lot of kinks Um so, you know, like after that, you know, I don't know what I think if I watch season three, it's going to be like Don't watch it for four weeks and then everybody's like No hear me out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. that's the level of word of mouth I would need. I mean, it's there's going to be, you know, I think we know from set photos as well and like kind of things going around like it's basically going to be a defenders season. Yeah, which was also not my favorite part of the Netflix you know, So Um, But Luke Cage and honestly, I know people kind of rag on Danny Rand, but just the idea of him being back is fun to me Yeah. I just like like yeah, we should have the iron fist back Um I think that's fun All right I'd related it to all that stuff. I did also want to say that the set photo with the new look of Bullseye I'm actually, I'll say it, I'm not the biggest fan because I liked his like scrappy look. And also you could see his eyes Yeah And the way his The Ifric to actor's name, but his eyes and the way he looks is such a good look. Wilson Baffle Wilson Bethel That guy has a look and his eyes is the perfect amount of like kind of psychotic, but like doesnesn't really care? Yeah. And He looks too superhero now. Yeah. He's a superhero. U which he's he's been taken by the CIA to do like covert missions I don't know if a superhero cow Makes sense for that. I'll tell you this Speaking from personal experience if you are hiding in tropical rainforest from your enemies you want your eyes to be bright white It is a fear tackic. Yeah is that scary. Yeah, ye Yeah that makes sense. Well, let's talk about. let's go from like, you know, if Bull's eye is too superheroly looking for you, let's go to like the far end of the superheroly looking spectrum. U We got an XMen ninety seven season two trailer today.. Part of the reason I have my laptop open is because our video on it is due to go live momentarily. And I need to make sure I'm not the reason it's held up The trailer forason I mean, I loveved season one. I grew up on the X Men animated series like Season two looks fucking rad to me. Dude, it looks so good. I think that show just goes so hard. It so hard and this is what Marvel is about man. likeike just theool things happening and especially because they're not they're not bogged down by the greater interconnectivity of the MCU world. they can do whatever they want and they can explore all the And also I am animation biased Hello animation. You've been cell pilled? I've been cell pilled? you know, I individual ye. I suppose, yeah, I'm an animation Yeah Yeah. ye, animated cell celluloid frame pill. Right. We just call you a cell. That's right. That's what they call me, a cell Hi It's it's just It's so beautiful, It's so vibrant. Like I think in this knew I The vibrancy of Marvel has been kind of gone for a minute Uh and X men ninety seven, season one and now season two it looks so good. and I think what they what At least season one did and I know that season two is going to do based on like the trailers is they did a really fun showcase of like how powers can work and be created. Oh man, there's a thing in the trailer of I think it's actually Morph making Wolverine's cllaws in front of Cyclops's eyes. so they like fan out in a thousand directions. It's like you mean this in this trailer In this most recent most recent trailer Gean Greay making pionic claws. Is that what it is yeah, as Je Greay doing this because I think so to like mimic Wolverine's cllas. and I'm like, why not? We've never seen anything like that. Y. That's so cool. O the fact that I think X Men ninety seven has single handedly made Cyclops one of the coolest X men. I think he wass always cool He was always kind of a dick A that. And in the shows before, I think he always was P v. Yeah, ye ye. But in Xen ninety seven, the fact he like uses it to like boost his momentum. Yeah just in that like first fight where he's saving Sunspot or whatever. Yeah, yeah. Oh my Godd. And we're going to get more of that stuff in this freaking new season. O of the marvel shows and products right now, I do think that's my currently most hp I think I canot I cannot wait. Yeah. I mean, you know, like I am excited for Vision Quest, but not as viscerally excited as I am for Xen ninety seven. Y. We've seen a lot more of X Men ninety seven. I know a lot more of what to expect. very different to be like, hey, here comes season two. I know it's going to bring me more of what I loved about season one as opposed to Vision Quest, which is like, well, yeah, it's part of this like spiritual trilogy with WandaVision and Agatha, but like You know, even the difference between WandavVision and Agatha was pretty stark. Th are very, very different types of shows U, And so all I know about Vision Quest is like Vision has these like deeply philosophical moments. I'm a dude who, you know, like grew up reading Philip K. Dick, which is insane to say now that I appreciate how drug fueled all this shit was. But you know, it's like I, you know, like and and unli, you know, the Matrix was like huge for me. That was So when the age you were when you were getting into trolls You were getting into I was getting into the m lot of Wow. You know, honestly, who won out here? I I'll tell you did and I'll tell you why I may have told this story on air before. so apologies if this is a repeat. But so the first Matrix movie, I think came out in ' ninety nine senior year of high school Same year is force awakens or Phantom Menis. Phantom menis I saw was like That's not what I want. Matrix is sick as hell, right? So then I go off to college and I'm like taking these like philosophy classes because the best thing you can do with your time at college is make your parents regret sending Eactly And so when the second Matrix movie came out I spent weeks beforehand reading like any philosophy of mind shit I could get my hands on. I think I might have been in a philosophy of mind class at the time And then the when I went to go see it, opening night, eightight eighth of mushrooms in the bathroom right before the movie starts. Full l No chocolate, nothing to wash it down with just aan and water. Dious. And then sat my seat ready to just be on the ride And the movie was so bad. It was so bad. And you know, when youre when you do that, time does not flow the same way as it does normally That movie was probably two and a half hours long. My subjective experience of it was much longer. And I was not on board for the movie very early on. So it's not like halfway through the movie. I was like, oh, I don't think this is for me. It was like, real early on, I was like, not only is this not for me I am deeply aware there's nowhere for me to go. And then of course the movie ends and everyone I went to go see it with was like, ugh How was that for you? I was like, not good. You know. So yeah I appreciate the commitment though. You could have been like, I'm getting outt of here. I don't wantan to watch this movie. but you were like, I have to see this through. It was pre smartphones Like I didn't even have a cell phone. Like, you know, I was in the Hudson Valley at a movie theater in a strip mall I said there was nothing el. There was nowhere to go, you know? Like there was nothing to do. nothing to do But yeah, but anyways, but yeah, I am excited for Vision Quest, but I don't really know what it's gonna be. So my excitement for it is hampered not through any lack of faith in the property or anything but more just a sort of uncertainty for it, whereas X Men feels a little bit like, oh shit, you had a burger in in and out. tryry it animal style, by guy. You know exactly. That's how it feels. Exactly. It's like it's what you want and more of it and crazier Vision uest, it's like, here's a new restaurant that you've never heard of and could be good. Could be good. I don't know. Do you like the Banana Republic? You'll probably like the gap Yeah you know like you might like Old Navy, you know? like but u Okay, well while we're talking about animated stuff, Moving off of actuallyay ninety seven So Prime Vide ordered three animated shows via the Jedi creatorss fund which is So disheartening. It's so disheartening. And I understand it just It's I think what's crazy to me is these Big companies pushing this AI generative AI specifically onto an audience. Maybe it's my circle, my bubble that I feel like nobody wants this But they're pushing it anyway, which is what's so crazy to me. When was the last time you I'll say this I'm deeply skeptical of AI U I think in limited targeted applications, it can machine learning, which is AI AI as a term now is also difficult because it encompasses too much I think there's a lot of machine learning that we that is rightfully called AI, but speaks to something different from generative AI Um, that is So useful. so, so so useful in terms of like finding new proteins or new genetic sequences, or new drugs or analyzing molecular structure, analyzing astronomical data. There's there's so much stuff that I think it's very genuinely good for making children's TV is not one of them. And I, you know, for as much as like it might be the case that I am in a bubble of like minded people, Um I can't remember the last time I heard anybody, even like, you know, one of my like, you know, older relatives who's not on my same wa of length Or last time I saw a headline anywhere I've seen tons of headlines that are like, people find out this thing was AI and get mad Yeah I've never seen a headline that was like, peopleeople find out this thing was AI and get excited. R. You know? like it feels like it's very much being pushed F the top down Not because it's what people want to see, but because it's a way for these people to trim down on overhead from hiring people so that they can make more money off of less work. Yeah. it's both in a creative aspect, if you use generative AI to like animate stuff, you cut down on like worker costs. and also top down If you push AI as something you have to use, I this is what a lot of tech companies have been doing is they're forcing their employees to use AI in order to justify the product itself. and the more people who use it, it becomes more important and they can like invest more. And I think everyone believes. And to a certain extent, there is a possibility that whatever like this could be the next like internet thing where After you know, when the interternet first started, there was a boom of a bunch of companies that eventually fell because the dot com bubble burst.ure If you have nothing nice to say, you can sit with us I'm Suzanne Lambert, comedian, mean girl and internet menace, and this is the mean but true podcast Every week, a special guest in I will talk culture, current events, romance, whatever we feel like. I'm Witney Cummings and I have a podcast called Good For You Where I don't deliver the news because I'm not a door, but I will give you the weirdest take and truest opinion on the news. The world is insane and sometimes it takes an insane person to make it all make sense. And when it comes to what's going on in the world, I promise to bum you out because that is social media's job. If you want to laugh about this whole nightmare called life, check out Good for You New episodes every week What if your favorite podcast felt like calling your funniest, most honest friend with the nicest ass? The one who tells you the truth and makes you snort laugh and pee a little? That's idiot. That's my show. I'm Laura Clary, and I've been oversharing with the internet for over a decade, and I'm really good at it Every episode, we dig into the real stuff. We cover everything nobody wants to admit out loud. The moments that are equal parts humiliating and also kind of funny. Parenting fails, relelationship fails, mental health fails, sobriety fails. Just kidding. We're not failing. I have zero filter and it's kind of a problem. Subscribe to Idiot for free on Apple podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you're listening right now I'll see you there dot com bubble by the way, and this is this point is well made meet me in the bathroom brought us the early ATts music scene in New York that included the strokes, TV on the radio, LCD sound system, Yay yaz, like So, you know,. good things can come from failure. Exactly. We might get the next one of those. Yeah. get a new James Murphy U, but Hi All that to say is like there's a world where AI can completely revolutionize the next whatever decades. But the way they're doing it just specifically in the arts, man, it's like I get it in a technical aspect, but I watch the arts to see what a person can do Yeah. And especially because I've said it already, I love animation. So this is so disappointing. Not to defend them using it, but One of the creators I wanted to like bring up specifically was Jorge Gutierz, who he created L T Greay, which was a show on Nickelodeon. And he also did a bunch of other stuff. He I think created the book of L movie and also did a bunch of other movies for like Netflix and whatnot He's one of the creators that they're asking to make this generated stuff Animation as an industry is pretty on a downturn right now. Like it is o yeah, maybe one of the worst times to be an animator. Oh you don't got to tell me my my girlfriend writes for animated TV. likeike it's it's tough. It is really tough. Yeah. And this being maybe the only thing he can see where an animation can give him money to give people opportunities to make something, I can see why he would take it. Um That being said, it is like it's just culturally disappointing that we' got to this point. I think I think also like you know, you raised an interesting point, which is like it's important to for people like me who are like butt hurt about the AI of it all It's important to direct your anger in the right way, right? Like I'm anoyed at Amazon You know, if Amazon Yeah, like if Amazon came to me and I was like, you know, someone who wasasn't super secure financially, was looking for any creative opportunity I could get, had lived through you know, the past decade of the the Hollywood like you know, streaming rise in strikes and the demolishment of the traditional model like You know, the people who are creating these shows might not feel like they have a ton of options other than to just say no. which like, yeah, that's always an option, but like, you know You got to put food on the table Yeah. you know, And so I guess'm I'm more annoyed u Amazon for being like and here's the option we're willing to extend This is I know that there's divisions within the corporation between like the people who build the rockets and the people who you know, make the TV shows obviously. But it's it's hard to point to someone like Amazon and be like They're scrappy Yeah Yeah exactly know like. they they could have taken this AI creator fund and just made it a regular creator fund, an animation f But they decided that AI was the way they wanted to go. So it is ultimately theirir fault Um, And I don't know how much they're offering, but if someone was like, Hey, here's like millions of dollars to make an AI show You some people might bite it, you know? Hard to say no. hard to say no, especially if that's the only opp you know, like if that's the only opportunity you're being given Yeah, reallyally difficult to to turn that down but also probably difficult in other ways to take it. Yeah, you know. Yeah. especially here, like the backlash that he's getting is also pretty immense, which so it's hard to be like on one hand, I get the backlash. On the other hand, o, that sucks But that's the kind of things you got away when you Yeah take deals like this. It's part of. take deals like this. Well, so let's let's move on to Berg Rom Brian Room U the subBRs of Break Room. Yeah I think in in my Bg room, the highlight news is that I started playing zer zero seven first lightight last night on PS five It fucking ripsude. It's so fun. I'm like I'm like probably like three, three and a half hours into it Before I got so sleepy As you do? I I got so sleepy. I was like, I was playing with my girlfriend. I was like, I got to go to bed And She's like, great, I get to play bioshock. was like That's sobody. Good for you But yeah, so I'm very early on and it's still, you know, I would say the The you know, knee jerk without having played the full game review is like If you enjoy Uncharted or like that style of like first person action adventure very cinematic type game experience, you'll be all over zero zero seven first lightight, you know. And if you're a Bond fan, like you know, I grew up on Bond You know, it's like You got Q, you got Money Penny, you got M, you know, like There's a rogue agent. you know, like It's fun and the u the The partart I finished playing through last night is like basically an extended tutorial prologue But it's it's done really, really well it's just it's handled in a way that is stillill fun and still kind of moving things forward makes sense narratively for where you meet Bond in the story and is just has a bunch of like really, really, really fun sequences that I enjoyed quite a bit. Yeah, that's exciting because the I didn't play it, but the I'm pretty sure the developers who made this game were also the ones who made the The Hitman series or the most recent Hitman game. Yeah, I heard the most recent Hitman game was great, but ye I hadn't played any of them. So I was like, I don't know It's interesting because I think I follow a streamer who like loves a Hitman game and what he loves about that game is that like you can basically it's a huge sandbox. So you can do whatever you want to like get the targets that you want to kill. It's like you can take a bomb and plant it here and make it like a secret thing and maybe you some poke someone with us get sick needle and and you got killed them in the bathroom. So it's like you can do whatever you want and like solve the it's like a is a puzzle game that has like infinite solutions. Well, so that's one of the things I'm enjoying so much about z seven first light so far is You know, I'm not really like a stealth game guy. But when it's done when stealth games are done well, there is like a level of like, oh God, I don't want to fuck this up. that that like really adds to it. Um, and u And I think that like the so far in double seven first lightight, like you have you always have the option of stealth, it feels like. Yes. Maybe that'll change in later levels. I'm sure there's levels where you don't. but Uh, and then when you fuck up the stealth Things go south so fast and like you might not die, but you definitely get the sense that you would have been better off stealthing and that makes the next time you try at the stakes that much higher, which like that's a really fun sort of like you know, loop as a player to get to experience U and it looks really good. Again, I'm playing it on a Playsttation five. My father's going to play it on a switch to. Probably handheld knowing him. Just gonna say, I feel like The game is made for a Higher fidelity, but you know what swwitch workors? Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. I mean, that's why like, you know all the switch games are like, we slightly upgraded the graphics from N sixty four and you're like, yeah, this is better than N sixty four. I mean, but also you know, there's games like Breath of the Wild, Terearss the Kingdom that are just or Donkey Kong banza that are just absolutely fucking gorgeous. You know, uh, But yeah, it's so I'm very excited to play it. I have a feeling that's going to be like my whole weekend is like I have a couple improv shows I have to go do. and I think each of them is going to be me going like How need to leave a house for another fifteen minutes. I got time. You just put it in your improv. You bring your I know. They're like, Ohh my Godd, a meter's coming. on the plan. Yeah. exactly. Yeahes, so I'm super stoked about it. I highly recommend it to anybody who's looking for a new game to play right now. Ag, particularly if you're like in this like sort of single player thing which is one of my happier places. I really should play more single player games. I really should. You can play rivals in An time. I know. I'm gonna play playtil you die. This is my life. During college, I got really into competitor smmash. Like I made a club and did the whole like Toury running thing. Yeah But that was the only game I played for like four years. Yeah. And I'm like, dude, I like video games. I need to expand my taste. I constantly be eating McDonalds. So I have a friend who hosts a video game podcast where the whole bit is they play bad video games. Okay. fun. And at this point it's been going for a while, but I remember talking to her Uh when u like maybe like four or five months everyone's like, how's it going? She's like I hate it. She's like, I used to play good video games. But now I have a job where I have to play not only bad video games, but as soon as I finish a bad video game, I have to go play another bad video game Ver Ver funny. should't have done it. Very funny. Yeah, it's just it was like when I asked her about it, she immediately aged like twenty years, you know, whichich I thought was pretty great What have we got in the Bryan Room segment today? In the Brian Room Like I mentioned before, I'm an animation guy and one of the ones that I like the most in the past decade or so was adventure time. sureure. Really love the main series Um, and they got like a bunch of aside or they had like a spiritual successoron and Gon and whole different thing for more like adults like they grew with the audience. Yeah. And so u I didn't find this outntil like today. they're doing an Aventure time prequel U G Is that awward coming back for it? I don't know any of the details. T be fair. I just know that they're premiering it in IGN Live I don't know if this's the first episode or something. I mean, you know we'll be there, right? Yeah ye yeah. So new rockars will be at IGNline. Rock stars. U ye. so come watch us. We're going to do a live taping of road to Doomsday. We're going to do some other stuff there. I think we'll be there on Sunday but I believe so Sunday june seventh. Yeah What's interesting to me is that I think adventure timeime was maybe the first U. I would to just say maybe the first children's media that first started off as like a quirky like Aventure of the day, every episode was something like silly. Lore kept building upon it And it eventually became something like crazy lorefilled and re prettyty deep instead of being silly. And the F and cake, I think evolved upon that. It was a lot more lore stuff Um But evente side quests Their whole premise is it's It's a prequel before all that And so it's back to like silly adventures. Oh fun. So it's pretty fun, but I'm now wondering and maybe this is just a question for all remakes, like who's this for becausecause I think what Adventuree did do well is it first got a bunch of kids to like this like quirky fun show. Yeah. and it kind of grew with the audience of maturity. Well it's the Harry Potter trick, right?ike, you know, which JK rowling. Fuck anyone who's anti trans. But yeah, but like that that is the trick and it's a rare one You know, And so it is like, yeah, well, if you're going to come back like You know, is it the case that something like Adventure Time SideQuest is going to hook a new audience who will then be able to go discover Adventure time on their own. Like is this a new way in because because' adventure time at this point does feel daunting to dive in. That's fair, you know, that's And yeah, maybe as a way for like newer kids who haven't been through all the adventure time stuff, they can get into this. And because it's a prequel, it'll make sense to continue on to the main adventure timeeline. Exactly. So that makes sense U I guess I'm also We need We need more new IP you guys. We just need more new IP. come on. A lot of indie studios are doing like fun stuff, but And again, it's just because animation is on a downturn. There's just not as many shows anymore Uh, but It's exciting to have Adventureim back At the same time, I like Wh's this for Is it for me?? Did you ever finish watching? 'cause I remember we had talked about it briefly and you were like two or three episodes in Did you ever finish watching common side effects? I got like halfway through and I was watching with my fiance, and she was like, I need to be in a mood to watch this ' it's like such a thing. Yeah. And then we she hasn't been in that mood for a while and And I'm like, come on, we gotta finish it.old on. I gota No, I want tona watch something like sillier and's to watch YouTube stuff. Yeahah. U ye, because it is like It's it's always funny. But it does get like Heavy like ye, yeah, yeah. it's I loved it. That was like one of my favorite. I mean, I love it too. And I want to watch the other thing that madeakesca ra. Scavenger' Rin, I think is Scavenger's Rin is brilliant I went into that. I found out about Scavenger's Rign because my girlfriend was developing an animated project with Amazon that had no AI. And someone had recommended the short that eventually became Scavenger's Rign. Oh cool to her as like a sci fi like, you know, like maybe this art style is like interesting or something And we watched that and I was like, oh, this is great. And then watching Scavengers Rign and I don't know whether or not this is true, but the impression I got watching it was like You guys pitched What if we made a sci fi nature documentary And the studio said, no. And so you said, well, what if it is a sci fi Nature documentary But we're there because a human ship crashed. And now they're just like dealing with this ecosystem becausecause the way that the show portrays the planet and all the life on it, has clearly been given so much detailed and subtle thought and it's Really, really fucking abessid I like the story too. I like the voice acting quite a bit. Um But what really the main impression I left watching scavengers Rign with was like Holy shit, these guys are science nerds. You know, like which is my' a show for me. I like guys. And also watching common side effects I'm like, you know, they' they're asking about like the substrate of like, you know, where the magical mushroom grows. I was like, Yeahah, what kind of substrate is it coprophilic? you know, like you need that need a What's the story here. likeike where Yeahah, where do they get the protein from? You know, like u So I appreciate those little touches that make it feel very like did and thought out, but also common side effects is fucking hilarious. Yeah. I know, it's so good. It so good. I need to finish it. There's there's a lot of that's the thing. There's a lot of adult animation. I think they're like getting a lot more that I like really like artistic, I guess iss the where I'm from. What are you watching right now? besides trolls. I've just been repeating trolls one, two and three over and over. You find a trolls movie that speaks to you. you watch, you stick with it. I'm saying it's Justin Timperlake's best work yet. Yeah as Branch. Um Well, Rick and Morty's back so I've actually just been catching up with Rick and Morty. I think season nine. Yeah, we're on season nine now. And so I watched the most recent episode and I I know Rick and Morty has like a whole roller coaster of like fandom stuff where at first everyone like, this is a genius show. and then it became too highty toidy. L everyone was like, you have to be a high IQ to watch this show. And then people started hating the show. Um and then the whole Royman drama and all that stuff. but U I've loved Rega Morty since the beginning and I still I just think it's cool to have fun sci fi concepts and constantlyap toying around. Yeah it's a cool World. And I enjoy what they're doing with this now. Uh especially because You know, I think Rick had a whole arc like over all the seasons of like him getting revenge on his like the prime rick because he killed his wife or the whole thing. And then they Ended that pretty like season was seven or was pretty early Um, I think I was seven Uh, And it's like, well, they're on for like at least Three more seasons. They signed to ten season order after season three. So whichich means at least thirteen seasons. I think so. Okay. So the fact that they like ended that like really big arc early and now they're back to just like things I think that's really fun. Yeah. And you know they got a spinoff coming too, right? I've heard. I've heard. Yeah, President Curtis. Thats yes.'t I think I remember hearing also that we weren't sure where that's going or you were sure I don't know if No, they announced it at I don't know when it's being released, but they announced it publicly. I've known about it for a while because my girlfriend wrote on it It' spoiler alert But I I That That kind announced at Harmon announced it at Comicon twenty twenty five It does not have a release date in so far as I know. Keith David is doing the voice of the President, which is great. There's a bunch of other really fucking solid people in the voice cast, which is great. And I, you know, it's like one of those things where it's like I know Every episode of it I know it at the level of like, you know, my girlfriend would come home from work and be like I gotta go find a book on Lepprechaun. You know like Like that kind of stuff. So yeah, that's that's coming. There's a Rick and Morty movie coming now. Oh what' I'm keeping up. The Rick and Morty movie's been announced and I'm blanking on his name, but the guy directing it is someone who's been directing the animation for Rick and Morty of the show for ages. Oh crazy. So like, you know, exactly who you would want. Yeah That ha'ving been said. The community movie was announced quite a while back and we've yet to see a community movie. so you know It'll it'll get done when Harmon gets around to it R. But But yeah, well, well, cool great. I'm glad to hear with more is good. The only thing I'm watching right now is Widows Bay and I fucking Lo. I've heard. Well, I've only seen some comments in either Breakrooom or New Rockckstar being like you guys gott to cover Widow's Bay. Dude and it is so goddamn good. I mean, I u You know, it's the premise of the show is it's a horror comedy set on a remote island off the coast of Maine This remote island basically has every kind of curse you can imagine. right? Like all just piled up, you know And it it's created by Katie Dipppold, who's a comedy writer who did Ars and Rec, the Ghostbusters movie Heat. And then the pilot episode was directed by Hero Marai, who did a lot of Atlanta, I believe. He directed Donald Glover's This is America Music video U So it it's deeply fucking funny and looks great. On top of it, Katie is also just a huge horror nerd. So it's also just like J such a love letter to everything The most recent episode takes place in the seventeen hundreds And like is pitch perfect in terms of dialogue, dressed, the way the houses are, like again, which is only stuff I know because I grew up in a seaside town in New England. Oh sure. Yeah. You know, and like every third school field trip will be like, let's go to the historical Society and see how they used to make oats, you know or whatever U how did they make oats? know fucking pullem from an oak tree. Oh. ye. Yeah. I don't know I wasn't paying attention should ask gu guys what it was. Yeah. They milk an oak goat. ye. o comes out. Yeah. Oak comes out of goats. That's why they call them goats. It's short for goat oat. Oh good, that exactly. But yeah, so Widows Bay is really great. It's on Apple TV, which I know a lot of people don't have, which is tough, but It is really, really fucking good. and the performances are great. If you like Stehen Root, if you like Matthew Reese There's a woman named, I believe Kato Flynn, who I was not aware of at all before this show who has like a fantastic all, fantastic performance in basically a breakout episode just for that character. Betty Gilpin and Hamish Linkleter were in this past episode as leads. like I mean, it's justs it's fucking great. It's so good Apple TV is the home of all the sleeper hs, man. It really is. And also Apple TV doesn't advertise anything. This is how Apple TV advertises Yeah. They just make something very good and then I have to go, is anyone else watching this? You know? Inder why. I wonder why. I don't againain, like it's like Apple and Amazon are not scrappy up and coming up they don't have to Yeah. But then why make things at all? That' that's what I'm enjing. Wh Why make things at all? Yeah. Why make things at all if you're not gonna fucking get people to watch. Who knows? who can say and Okay, well, I think that's that's probably it for today's break room U We are We're figuring it out right now, you guys. So I can't tell you when we'll be back other than we will be back next week Yeah. when we come back, it's going to be me and Brian. Honestly, if J if Justin Timberlake shared the comments, I would be excited too. Oh my go. Banch himself.
