Um It suddenly went blind the other night Oh no. The impact on my life being that now this same friend's hundred pound chocolate lab is staying with us. Oh I see. Yeah. so I've got two very tiny dogs and our whole house is built around. There's tiny dogs. Their tails can't knock things over And I love this dog, George. He's so great. He like lays in bed with me at night. likeike'm I'm very happy he's there and that we're taking care of him for a few days. But it is just like a very different level of, oh, this dog stepped on me on its way to the door. all of a sudden becomes like a threat You know Last night he was sleeping in my bed and he was snoring so much I couldn't fall as sleep because it's like having like a it's having a small man in your bed Yeah, you know It is crazy how big big dogs can getes comparredative with a small dog. Yes and like, you know, my my my skew is particularly tiny. So for me it's like real You know, and then I got a video last night of Brazjall trying to pet George on the head. That's o. It's adorable. There is just not a moment of downtime where your brain ist know like might be making a big mistake, dude. you know, like what if the foundation' full of I don't know maggots or or whatever like yeah. so it's that is something that like My fiance and I were considering it's like benefits of home owning is obviously like if the proroperty growross in value, you also have something that grows in valuue, but everything also depends on you. Yeah. Like if the house breaks down or if you need to do like replacements, you need to repairs, that's all on you. I'm not a handy guy you know what I mean? Like L yeah, sure, you set me loose in like, you know, Dragonge Inquisition or something. I can find every little bit of ore I need to craft the best metal But like if there's like a light switch that isn't working and I go into like an oh or you know, a DIY or something, I'm going like, probably gonna to have a heart attack trying to fix this thing. you know? So yeah, well let's let's get into the the bounty of trailers we've gotten since since the last time we were here Some of which are these these Spider Man brand new dayay trailer leagues, which Full disclosure, I have not watched any of these trailers yet mainly because I like trailers and I want to watch one that doesn't have the giant Red X watermark over it. And I'm a freak, so I watched every single one of them. Yes every single one. So okay, so it certainly seems like there is some unpluggable leak hole in the Yeah broader Sony network somewhere. That iss what I'm saying. the fact that It's not just leaks that these leaks are so clean. They're like right. One of them was like four K like beautiful. Yeah, aside from the Rd X.. If you're inter reed Xx, that can beautiful. That's true. It's actually an X men T. Yeah By the way, X men are gonna be in this movie. So that's what makes me like really confused. Yeah. initially, I was like Is this Sony doing it on purpose?? But it definitely can't be because like that kind of, I will say, watching a trailer with an Xon it does kind of like kill the vibe where I'm like, I wanted to see it nice. That's exactly where I'm coming from. Yeah but it's out there. so I'm just like, well, I guess I have to see it just for the sake of Yeah knowing what's going on Uh yeah, it's I think it's crazy that So much is being leaked like at once. There was this one trailer and another version of that trailer leaked like basically the same tickets on sale trailer, but two different versions and also a social media version, like a square version. Yeah. But The other thing that leaked was They were doing, you know how like sometimes before screens at different countries like like hi LA or hey hey China or hey Shanghai or whatever like they had a supercut of a bunch of that from the actors. It was Oh weird. It was it was a Tom Hollands andendea and Sadie Sink and Jeno Batylon like they're just in a row all saying different one of them sing a different country sing hi. So like that got leaked too. Yeah. So it's like the fact that that also got leaked makes me feel like It definitely wasn't a sy because why would you leave? Yeah, it feels like it does feel like the call is coming from inside the house, but like Also, you know, I'm so curious when these trailers leak, like you know, I recognize obviously, I know the financials of YouTube inside and out, you know, the financials of of, you know Twitter and TikTok a little bit less so, but I get that more views equals like some kind of immediate gain You know, so it's one of those things where it's like, well to what end to leak so many versions if it's the same group of people leaking them, you know, or if it's different like It feels weird. I mean, it's so funny because I heard that there were leaked trailers now it was like Doomsday? Oh yeahah. that's the trailer that like might matter more. Right. it's so this is I don't know how true this is, but there was like word online that an unfinished version of the film is also out there Yeah and that somebody is selling that unfinished version. So I'm maybe thinking whoever's leaking this also has access to the unfinished version It's literally a trailer for their pired copy. not a trailer for the movie. I think that is what it is. Its like' legitimate like I have a like legitimate copy and I've leaked out all these like real trailers Yeah. So you can purchase the movie early from me in order to like see it But I'm like, why would you I don't know, I just don't understand why you would want to see an early unfinished cut of a movie? I don't even want to see the triil th with the. That what I'm saying Yeah, yeah. especially becausecause the movie is coming out in like a month or whatever. I will say there are, you know, from like a very like film nerd perspective, there is real value in seeing different versions of a movie. Like a couple of years ago I went as every nerd my age must do, I went down the bllade Runner rabbit hole. U of like finding like all the seven different versions and why each one was cut the way it was you know, like all that sort of stuff. Like that was really interesting and informative But this feels a little bit this doesn't feel like people go on like, well, if you're interested in how a film gets made, you're going want to watch this before it hits theaters, you know? Yeah, I don't know. as a former like, you know Pirate Bay Aficionado. You know, I don't really have much ground to stand on here, but it feels bad. And you know, mostly I want the people made the movie to have people watch it it was meant to be seen. one hundred percent like It's I guess also whoever leaked it because all the watermarks are on the thing. So we know like kind of generally where it's from. like is losing your job worth getting like Well, how much would a person pay for a leaked movie? twenty fifty bucks. Yeah hundred bucks. Yeah. It cannot be worth a paycheck. That what I'm thinking U I say really wanted clloud. It's not like we're still in the day of DVD bootlegs where it's if you get it early, then you can sell it in Tes square out of us. Oh you know Yeah, it's weird. So I mean, I'm excited for a new trailer for Spider Man. Like I'm I'm hyped on the movie. you know, the the trailer that is currently legally out is like, you know, kind of downbeat and I want to see the one that's like Oh my God, we're gonna be fighting the hand and Tombstone and, you know, the villains trailer, whatever. But But yeah, so anyways, hopefully we'll get a new trailer soon. It feels like with a leak of this scale, the right move for Sony would just be like, we know you already saw it. Yeah. just watch it for real. F like how the boys did it. Yes, unless there's still VFX processing that needs to be done on some of those shots Yeah. It is unfortunate like for some reason, it seemed like Sony more than other companies just doesn't have their security down. Well, they had the huge two years ago. Yeah. That's what I'm saying. like Disney, this would just Maybes we're associating the brand with how secure they are, S things will never happen with Disney Pper U but I mean, It feels like yeah, it does feel like every couple of years, Sony's just like We left our laptop at a bus terminal, you know, and someone got in there. Well, you know, Abby, who has a former breakroom head, used to work at a trailer house and she she just had a combo with Eric and Jess about the trailer leaks and how This might have happened and all that sort of stuff, which will go up on Sunday on newew Rock stars with Sneak peeak this week. So yeah, and I was producing that and there's a lot of good knowledge. A lot of good knowledge, especially from Abby herself, because she works so directly why all this might happening. Abby is also the reason why I She convinced me that it probably wasn't like five D chests from Sony Be when I initially saw I was like, there's no way Sony didn't do this on purpose. It's so clean. It's so everywhere. they're not knocking it down U But she's like, no, it's I've worked on trailers and that's how it goes and it's probably just leaked. from there and I' like that that sucks. Yeah, that sucks. Yeah. I've got a friend who works for Apple, you know, talking about secure companies and he He goes up there and he cuts their like big launch videos for stuff. Oh sure. And fun man the I'll like ask him how work is going and he'll just go like, I can't talk about it. Like he's on a CIA blacku or something like that. And this is like one of my my close friends, you know, like it's It it's so instilled at that company that like you do not speak of anything because you actually don't know what details are important and which ones are and just the only way is to not let anything out. Yeah I'm say Which is wild. I'll be like, who are you working with on this project?' like You know, like, because I have other friends who work up there with them and I' be like, Okaykay, all right, sorry, you know U Okay, well let's get into some of the trailers that were released legitimately this week justust this morning, Thursday morning, I believe, we got the Gto trailer from Pixar Looked great to me. That's cute. It's cute. It. Yeah. I'm not I don't always I don't always go in for the cute movies. And I'll be honest at the very start of the show I was like I don't, but as soon as I get distracted by the mo I was like, okay, I' forward Cird movie. I'm particularly excited because As much as Pixar has built a brand for themselves as like the Like premium animated movie studio. I will say I think they've been Dropping the ball recently in terms of getting people excited about their movies Yeah.ree. partarticularly like Dreamworks and Sony animations have been kicking so much butt with the R movies L stylistically, with cameras, with how they're animating. L you know, Spiderverse changed the game for animation Absolutely. I don't think I don't think you get something like Mitchell's versse Machines for like the most recent teenage Mut and Ninge Turtle movie without Spiderverse Exactly kindind of being like, hey It doesn't all have to look like this. know. And even like Dreamworks with and boots, less wish. I think that movie was also very dynamic and fun and stylized. and they also had a very dreamy colored or like watercolorish aesthetic Um that I think Pixar in general has been Kind of stagnant in terms of Ellie's style. But And They had a more like goofy like goopy style with like Luca, but they all have this Yeah, the bean mouth Bean mouth rubber hose arms. Yeah for some reason, I don't know I couldn't tell you exactly why, but so many people have this like weird aversion to the bean mouth. Pople it doesn't bother me. I do I do appreciate when an animated movie makes like more of a choice. Yeah. But I think bean mouth has come to kind of just be animated Yeah in like in a way, at least for me, doesn't bump It's it's, I guess it's that it's the genericness of it. Yeah And the fact that I remember this was even a thing during like Stehven Universe era. When I watched it, people were making fun of the Beanmouth thing where I think people had this idea that everybody from Cal Arts had this style. Yes everyverybody rags on Cal Arts for it And it was kind of like, oh, it's like a nepotism thing. you have to you adopt a style and you're like I don't really I also don't really know why it's such so hated. Pixar haven't really changed what they look like. in a long time. Yeah. But Gato, I think is the most variant the most significant change in style they had in like the past however many It feels that way. And you know, and also for me, like I think you're spot on about the style of it like looks fun and new U But also like, you know, it the Pixar has at this point Deserve it or not a reputation for being like, this movie is going to make you cry. You know, Yeah you're going to think about your relationship with your family now. You know, and and Some of those are like my favorite Pixar movie. you know I think Cococo is a fucking masterpiece, you know? But this one just looked fun and I didn't I didn't realize until watching the trailer. I was like Oh yeah, movie can be fun. you know, like That's true. Yeah. I mean that's I found refreshing. That's what I'm also saying like Pixar has this It's hard to call it u likeike pretentious because it's not It's not pretentious for se. It's like, yeah, it's gonna be about it's going to get you deep in your feelings. Yeah. It's going be a beautiful animation. It has an emotional heft that you don't associate with a studio like Dreamworks. Yeah you know or something like that This is a Bose moment. It's also possible that like the next trailer is it'd be like Go one hundred percent. Yeah. You know what? being a pixar movie? It's gota I I know. There are cats. Mbe everyone gets adopted. mayaybe like a guy in the streets or something, but I know there's there's no universe in which all those three cats wind up okay. Yeah Yeah, so we got we got the Go trailer this week. We also got the social reckoning trailer. Yeah which I watch this trailer, you know, I'm not a huge fan of the social network, although the the soundtrack is one I listen to all the time. It's such a good. if you're reading a book You're reading like a sci fi book and you want it to feel like kind of intense put on social network track You skip over the Mountain King thing, you know, the bumpum, pump, bum, bumpump put you know, click the checkbox that doesn't play. But But you know, social Network, I think I'm in the minority in not liking that movie. It was obviously very critically received. People really liked it. You know, Earon Sorkins back for this one. We've got Jeremy Strong post Sccession, Mikey Madison post Anora. Jeremy Allen White posts the Bear likeike it these' a very stacked cast U, you know, And so for me coming into this trailer as a as someone who didn't particularly love the first movie I do think this trailer looks good. Like this looks like this could be a really good movie I love the idea of taking Zuck down a peg or two. you know, likeike I got no problem with that You know, so I don't know if this is going to be one I wind up seeing in theaters, but I am I'm surprised to find that I'm more open to it than I thought I would be It's it's I think it is more interesteresting because like it's it is about the drama that Facebook, at least this drama like we live through Yeah You know, the history of Face how it came about. It's like, It's interesting to see where this mega corporation came from the origin story, but It's also interesting because we know how like Facebook went through all this political drama because like Be like with their algorithms. Help the genocide. Help really bad things Rad. And so to see that happen is on the big screen, I think can be informative and interesting to watch. It's just a little weird that Zuckerberg is still doing like alive and well. like did he have to approve of this or anything? or like I don't know how this works Uh because it's It doesn't seem like a favorable That'sable of him I mean, if nothing else, Jeremy Strong is really nailing Zuck's like dead eyed he' like stupid you know, fringe bang haircut like this is a free Zuckerberg rebrand. are you trying to be a dude bro? Yeah, yeah ye. When I showed up wearing like oversized black t shirts chunky watch everywhere. Ely hair. Yeah, yeah. You know what? he did I will say he did look more human After that fact. But This is from the era where Zuck would be like, I enjoy toast and then he would eat dry toast in like a promo video that was seemingly just about him actually being a human boy. I was like, man. so funny. But the trailer I think did do a good job of like showing how tense this movie's gonna be. Yeah Yeah it' it was like, oh my go, this is going to be like a thriller almost. Yeah,'m and broadly I'm not a fan of Earon Sorkin, but you know, a few good men's slaps, although I kind of credit Reiner with that. You know, So'm I'm probably going to see it, but I'm not going to rush to see it. You know, if it comes out and the buzz is really good around it, then I'll probably go see it that following Yeah. I think I'm with you We got our final Moana trailer, which you me and Brandon watched together before Masters of the Universe. That's right. It wasn't there. I'll tell I'll tell you what really colored my viewing experience of that trailer was Brandon leaning over to me right when it started, just going, the rock's got no nipples. I was like I was like what?'. then Maui shows up and I was like He's right, there's no nipples on. nles. Bra just goes, it's uncanny as hell. Which is it's so funny 'cause like as a stylistic choice in animation, you kind of forgive it. But it's like a person has nipples, man. Yeah It's fine. Yes It's fine. I remember when Batman's suit had nipples. That's what I like A suit had nipples Yeah, I mean, you know, on the one hand, I really love Moana. That was that was one of the movies when my daughter was little. we would watch loooop Yeah, you know. And so on the one hand, like the trailer looks like it's going to tell the same story, which I think is a good story. It looks like it has a lot of the same set pieces. U, but it looks it looks so similar to the original Uh, that part of me is like, well P is just going to be the same Phe character model from the thenen I'm just gonna to go watch the animated one. Yeah I kind of wanted the trailer to take bigger swings other than Well, you know, in the original, he's half great white. now he's half. you know, like I sort of want it to and maybe the movie will you know, um, But yeah, I kind of want more More zigs and zags Yeah. and I mean, I've felt this way about Disney animated or li live actions for a long time or it's like I think the animated versions will always be better, but clearly they make so much money that they're gonna keep doing it. Yeah, I was just pulling numbers for we have an upcoming Road to Doomsday on Logan, which I don't know when that's Aar. Logan came out in twenty seventeen. I was pulling the box office numbers for the end of twenty seventeen And there was a Beauty in the Beast live action remake that year with Emma Watson and Dan Gest That made one point two five billion dollars. You know what I mean? And my memory at the time is that critics were like, this ain't good. You know, but it's still just a you know, money machine. so there's like a this For some, I mean, I get it, but like animation has always had a U and energy about it, that's like it's for kids whichich is not true, but I think like from people I know, some people are like I just can't get into animation. It's fake. I don't get it. and it's like also feels for children because, you know, you grow up with children's animation. But being live action suddenly makes it more real Yeah. And so I think there's more people notot just like children and families like go out to see it But the same time If they're gonna keep doing the remakes, just keep remakeaking the old ones. I don't know why they're going back to Moana. Yeah, yeah. Tangled, honesty, Tangled is my all timer one of my favorites. Tangled is great. It's so good. Tangled's really, really good. Honestly a live action Tangled might be a lot of fun. That's Katherine Han' gonna be in it as Oh, that's right. They are doing it. But why is it not before Moana? Moana is so recent, especially Moana too There already I don't understand. Yeah. I don't understand. Yeah. I get it. And particularly Moana I've had this feeling with Moana the animated movie as well where because it's on the ocean and like most of the time For some reason, it feels kind of weirdly uncanny watching it because there's almost no background or anything happening. Yeah. It's just like characters on a boat with endless ocean around. And so even in the animated world, it felt a little empty Um whichich was fine 'cause there's a bunch of other stuff happening. But in live action I feel like I sense it even more. Or the fact that it's ocean, they're definitely like green screening at all. Yeah, they're not they're not going Christopher Nolan and on and IMax out to the middle of the South Pacific. I'm saying. Yeah. And so it all makes it clear make it more obvious to me that it's fake. And so I'm like, I don't know if Moana, particularly of all the other animated movies like works well live action. Can you soord the stone Yeah don't get the action re. W classics. Yeah And like whenever Tangled live action comes out, I think that'll actually bang because it's, you know, it's like medievalish times Yeah It's a lot more grounded and like you can see the castle, you can go to the bar, you can U ight with a pan, like all that is very like physical I think can lend itself well to live action But We want to make some money. We want to make some money. Hey. moreore power to him. What other trailers we got this week? Oh we got social recogn. Oh we we got the whalefall trailer. Yeah. Now frequent viewers of the show will know that I am a whale boy If I said I was a whale boy, you would agree. You would look at my whale arm and be like, yeah, that guy like. And if I said I was a squid boy, you would agree. You would look at my squid arm. So that guy like That's true. So you know, it would probably not surprise anybody that I'm pretty excited for a whale fall. Yeah. I mean, that trailer looked U , my only qual and I forced Zach to record N our underground episode with me yesterday where I talked at him about Wales for thirty minutes you want whale knowledge, goo make sure to watch that when it comes out Monday. Yeah, but yeah, whale fall, I thought the whalefall trailer looked really good. That action sequence that's basically the whole trailer of Austin neighbs getting swallowed by a sperm whale. I was like, this sperm whale looks good. They got the biology right Um I think the sperm wha swallowing a humumbold squid. It's clearly in Monterey because there's like a kelp forest up there like Um I'm so curious how they how the movie feels because the book is in a whale. Yeah.. like gonna be like close up while he's like in the digestive tract the whole time or something. That'd be Yeah, I mean, I think the the only thing I can really compare it to is one hundred and twenty seven hours where it's like, you know, but even then you get the fun of watching James Franco drink his own stale piss, you know, like, I don't know That's fun. That's fun for. You know when you go to a movie and you're like, this movie had everything. It's just I wanted to see someone drink stale piss and then you're like, doom comes along with the still suits and you're like now we're back. That'. Yeah, so I'm really curious to see how it goes. You know, Zach was telling me a little bit about the director and some of his past work, The guy was a producer on cocaine bear and o day Christen Stewart, alien, but it's a research base at the bottom of the scene type movie. You know, which made me optimistic and I really liked Austin Abrams and weapons. I don't really know them for much else But Yeah, so I'm I'm super excited for Walefall. I think I think whalefall coming out must feel for me The way that like Iron Man coming out in two thousand eight felt for like You know, like people who like knew the MCU and for the comics, you know, where I'm like Someone's going to want to know what's going on. I'm going to be the guy they call. We got to do a whalefall breakdown. on doing rock stars. It's Berg on the camera. You know what it is camer for it. Yes alwaysways fearful Now let's switch from movies to the Nintendo Direct that happened earlier this week. This was a big week for just games. I mean, it's so many announcements. Yeah, because you just, I mean, we talked a little bit about we talked a lot about state of play. We talked a little bit about the Xbox showowcase, a little bit about summer Games Fest U Nintendo Direct feels like that's kind of Rounding things out. I'm sure we'll also get a slew of indie game news here and there, you know Um But was there anything from the Nintendo Direct that particularly stood out to you not in terms of what you think like the biggest game is going to be, but like you were the most excited Um, for me, I there's a few things that I noted. one, It's funny ' becausecause a lot of these games I knew were already happening, but just think more news is great. I was surprised by how many ports Yeah there were announced. Like I felt like Halfty's games were like and now you can play it on Nintendo you know, Especially 'cause S switch to, I mean, they're trying to push a Switch to is like more powerful or whatever. I mean it is, definitely it definitely looks better than Switch, even handheld, but yeah, one hundred percent, which also fun fact There's an option in the settings where you can turn handheld mode into like essentially docked mode. where it like increases the power so that it just suck your battery to. It sucks your battery way more, but it becomes like your're docked. Yeah. It works better. anyyway. You guys can try that. Um I'm I really love the rhythm Heaven series I love that freaking series. When I was a kid, I used to like Whenever songs are playing on the radio, I tap on the windows and annoying my parents. But then I thought in my head, I'm like Wouldn't it be cool if a game was like that? And then I discovered rhythm heaven for the DS Yeah literally tapping to the rhythm and different games. I'm like, Wait, this is so cool. And ever since then every single rhythm heaven after I just got I like I really love rhythm games and here's my qualm with other mainstream rhythm games. Yeah, let me hear it. They're not Really rhythm games and the fact that it's just spamming a billion notes at you. it's more like reaction games and like memorizing games. Yeah Like a lot of it's kind like DDR where DDR is a memory game or is a rhythm game, but with so many notes happening at once It's almost barely it's not really to the rhythm. It's almost just memorizing certain track and how and when to press things. Yeah Whereas rhythm heaven, it truly is just like practicing your like c that the timing of different kinds of rhythm and the fact that You know, like Rhythm Heaven is just so fun and quirky I really appreciate the series. So knowing when that's coming now and getting more news, that's great for me Um I saw a little thing on. Oh, and the other big thing for me is I'm a huge splplatoon guy Yeah I love a Satoon shirt just the other day, I believe.. Yeah yeah ye ye. There was a Uniclo collaboration with Splatoon. And I just immediately, I'm like, I'm getting every single one of these. Yeah I just have to. Yeah. I wear a Splatoon jacket. One time I wore a Splatoon shirt and a jacket. someone point it out in the comments. I appreciate you. But something about that series really clicked with me. I generally I kind of don't like shooters. Because aiming is really hard. Yeah Are you on PC or I guessun you're on you're on Yeah.stune is on, you know, swwitch and the way you originally. I evenven like mouse and keyboard,'s just so precise. I'm really bad at aiming. It sos really hard But splatounon I think kind of invented a new way to aim, which is using the gyro controls. And so you know you generally move the screen with your right stick, but for precision aiming kind of like a mouse, you use the gyro In order to it's so funny, I hate Gyro aiming. It's I shut it off as soon as like Like I played so a friend of mine lent me her Wiu so I could play Breath of the Wild Oh yeah yeah. And for those you who don't remember the Wi U controllers, this massive thing. and had ye I couldn't figure out why whenever I was aiming it was like you know And I finally realized it had like a gyroscope in it and I was like, this sucks. I shut it off and was great with it ever since. but yeah That's so funny, you prefer the gyro. I hundred percent, I think every console shooter should have gyro aiming.ild att least as an option It's just For I don't know why. It's is so intuitive for me. Like the moment I picked it, I'm like, oh, I get it And Splatoon was the only shooter I actually got good at. Yeah. Every shooter, I suck. I'm so bad, but this one really clicked. I bring all that to say Splatoon Raiders is coming out and that is their first single player spinoff game. Okay. So normally it's a four v four team shooter, but this is their first for a to single player. Swatunon and single player, I think some of the best stuff like legitimately, some people buy Satunon just for single player stuff. Um And the fact that'm making a dedicated game just for that and or focusing on that, I think is really great Splatoon mechanically, I think can work in so many different ways that I'm really happy they're focusing on single player. So if anybody wants to playpllatoon but afraid of the multiplayer, get Splatoon Raiders. It's going to be good. I promise. Is it willill Splatoon Raiders have like a multiplayer option as well or they'll be like you can go back and play Splatoon two. Yeahah, currently it'splatoon three Um, and that's their u Yeah, that's where you play the multiplayer stuff. I think Splatoon Raiders is designed to be just single player. Yeah. And eventually they'll make Splatoon four and whenever that happens, that'll be to the next Satoon Yeah game Everybody jumps on. But in the interim, haveving something in the middle to play for fun. I think it's great. But those are the main big things that Yeah, I mean. You know, for me, so I'm a console gamer. I have an Xbox, a Playsttation and a switch. and I'll kind of go through like heavy periods on each. you know, it's like right now I'm in a Playsttation period because I'm replaying God of War U I was on I was in a big Xbox phase for a while because like Vampire crawlers and like something else was on Game passass. That was like fucking great. U You know, and you know, so I switch around. So, you know, right now I'm in a switch fallow period. I'm going to come roaring back in two weeks because I pre orered Starfox. So like you know, when I was going through the Nintendo Re, the thing that struck me was the amount of ports. Yeah. And then a second thing that I'll get to momentarily You know, which I thought was interesting because the the amount of ports coming for the Nintendo switch too U is happening around the same time that Xboxes Csole exclusivity, whole strategy. Like I was just reading an article this morning. I think in ArS Technica, it was either ArSechnica or games indndustry. Biz that was talking about how You know Xbox jacked up the price of Game passass, lost millions of subscribers U you know, they they're trying to figure out what proroject Helix is really going to be, you know, their their next gen console onene of the things that I think Nintendo has always done great success is be like, hey, a Nintendo console always feels different from the other one You know, like there's there's a sense in which when I'm playing a game on PlayStation or Xbox even if it's not an exclusive to one of those I don't really, you know, the controllers are so similar. The gameplay is so similar. The graphics are identical, you know U, Switch has a different vibe for better or worse. So I was surprised at the number of ports being announced at the Nintendo Direct feels like a potentially there's always been third party stuff on on Nintendo. But for a Nintendo direct to be so light on first party offerings in comparison to ports felt significant. U Splitoon, obviously a huge first party offering, but also Ocarina of Time remake And so you know, this one's interesting to me because I am not I don't look back on the N sixty four era with a lot of fond and nostalgia. interestnteresting I know. I'm the only one and it makes me feel s I have to I have to acknowledge how much in the minority I am here. I think everyone else my age is like What? You don't like Mario Kard sixty four and I'm like, that's now No, ye. It's an era. I mean, I played a crap ton of N sixty four, You know, it's like I played Glden Eye till my eyes bled. I played Mario Kard You know, I played the new Tetris was like my Tetris. The first one where you could swap a piece in and out. like And sixty four, I think does deserve a lot of praise for a lot of its games. But to me, the main issue with the N sixty four was that the ideas behind the games were kind of exceeded the capacity of the console. Yeah. And I think a lot of that was fixed with GameCube. It's part of why I'm excited to play the new Starfox, even though I just pointed out. she's like, it already came out. you already played it. And I was like, yeah, but the port on the Nintendo Switch online sucked and You know, so Occarina of T coming back, I I didn't Everyone else my age loves it. It's widely regarded in when you read people who are video game critics or people who look at the industry from bird's eye view, it's widely regarded as a watershed moment in ging. Again, I have to I just want to really stress, I know I'm in the minority here by not having my mind blown by Occarina of time. Just say you hate Zelda. Just say you hateZea. I love Zelda. I love Zelda, but my Zelda was linked to the past. Yeah. That was the one where I was like, hell, yeah, that's a Zelda game, you know, But but I'm very curious with the remake and there's pretty interesting conversation going on about like Well, how faithful of a remake will it be and how much will it kind of cue towards more modern conventions in gaming. Yeah. you know. And I don't know. I don't have as much of a dog in that fight, particularly because I wasn't that attached to the original. Did you play in the original? Were you wereere you like an arena I Admittedly, I never beat Occaran ofp timeime Yeah. I got to basically like halfway of the game And I was a really fearful kid. Like I just things in the game would scare me.. Oh yeah. we all know how terrified Brian is of everything. Yeah. You're so scared. I really was. it'd be like even in Donkey Kong sixty four, there's like a level where it's like a toy chest or something and the mecca Kremlings, they're like toy mechcaa Kremlings, but like for some reason that freaked me out. Yeah. And I couldn't play that level. So I just would not finish the game. I same thing with Aar of Time There was a certain dungeon or something that like When I was a kid, I'm like, I'm so scared Yeah. I don't want to play anymore. So I never finished a game, but I did like the first half where I play. Yeah, sure I'm interested to see how Much day modernize it Operative time Everyone says it's like 's It's a game changing entry into the Zeldo franchise, which is true But it's also if you go back and play it, like it feels dated. Yeah. it's very of its time. Yeah, not not as a criticism, just like Yeah, what was revolutionary in the mid nineties doesn't doesn't necessarily hold likeike I remember playing u There was a Diablo two port not too long ago, Diablo two resurrected, I think it's called. And I love Diablo. Diablo two, I played constantly in college, you know, and u And I went back and replayed it and was like, oh yeah, some of the quality of life stuff just bumps in a way it didn't bump me then. Yeah. So I'm curious to try Oarina of Time from a relatively fresh perspective. But I also have a know that Nintendo's really got a weird needle to thread where it's like, well, is this just a graphic Re update, you are you changing the game significantly I mean, I really think Breath of the Wild and T teears of the Kingdom are Phenomenal games. I don't think we would have gotten those without something like Ocarina of Time U But part of what makes them so phenomenal is the ability to go do the game in any order you want. Yeah. And Occarine of Time famously is not that. It's much more linear. It's much more gated behind Do you have these items or whatever to progress a little more of like a metetroidvania kind of situation in that sense? So yeah, I don't know. I'm very curious about it. I think they might go the route of it being more than just the a remaster like graphics going up because in the three DS, they did make Hey Ocper of time remake Yeah with like better graphics. That was essentially it was essentially the same game with better graphics and a couple of quality life stuff. But if they'd bringing this to the switch too I just feel like they have to do something even more It's going it's going to be hard not to compare it to Breath of the Wild and the calamity games, I guess. Yeah one hundred percent. Yeah. So we'll see U Yeah, I'm optimistic for it. I am. I am also optimistic. And now that I'm an adult, I'm not scared of these video games anymore h I'm kind of excited to play them again It is funny though, the teaser they showed of like Link uh, you know, baby Link in in the in the bed where he looks so ot realistic, but like it's so textured Yeah that people are kind of making fun of it because there's there's one guy who made like what if Ocrey of Time was an unreal engine It's like it almost looks like that. Yeah It's just so weirdly realistic that I'm like, wait, it's kind of I I'm now used to Zelda in the more like cartoony sell shadated Yeah vibe seeing like Skin textures and hair textures was like this is cool. Now we gotta get them yasified with whatever the Nidia AI is like, I want hereere's what I want out of a Zelda game. I want a real fuckable link I can't say that. I say it, I say it. That Link is a child. I say Oh, that Link is a child. Oh, so it's okay for people on the internet to be angry that they can't fuck female characters but I say I wna fuck a male character and all of a sudden I'm the That is I'm the problem Is is that inaerative time. He is a child. granted he's a Kokiri, which like a little elf people, so maybe I don't know how that works, but regardless. Whoa dude.ardess. I don't know how Kokiri works It is. Yeahah. I just yeah, I'm optimistic for it. It's, you know, it's weird to be an elder millennial and be So the target demo for the nostalgia babar Fx sixty four. And somehow not at all for this other thing that came out around the same time. you know. I want I still want more new stuff done Nintendo. I want more new stuff U actually speaking of They do have the new fire emblem. Yeah, I was gonna say, that was the other one that kind of caught my eye. I didn't come to fire Emblem until three houses. That was my first fire Emble game. Yeah yeah. which I didn't know When I started playing Fire Emblem three houses, I didn't know how much of how much the game was tactical combat plus dating s. And so this was right when I was playing Fire Emblem three houses right when my current wife and I started dating. We had been friends beforeand And she'd come over and there would be these scenes. There was some professor. I don't remember what her name was She She had gigantic breasts and was constantly There was a plotline where like she lost her underpants at some point. You'd have to take her on te dates and like And and so my wife would call the game magic Titties. That is She'd come over She'd like, Oh, youre playing magic Titties again and be like, Yeah,'re playingagic Titties. That is so funny that of them has now that image with it. 'a I think that I think that has been more of like A The dating Sim aspect of it was more integrated modern I Iire blow. I don't know if it started with fates But The current era, that's where it happened. Like old Fire Emble was just purely tactnical fight. Yes, which is what when fire emmble freehouses came out. A friend of mine was like, dude, you love into the breach, You love fal fancy tactics? Like, you're gonna to love this. I was like, hell, yeah. U and I at the game and I did I did One of the things I will say for the dating sim elements of Fire A of Th houses is like If you want your troops to be their best Yeah, you gota you got to have a good tea party You gott to bre the right snacks, the right tea, the right conversational topics. L you gott to do your research, you know? Like it didn't really matter in a way that made me get very invested in it, even though at first I was like, I don't want to have to do a fucking tea party. I wantan to go like bust the night's head open. but yeah Fpire them is so funny because I don't know if they have it in the modern era, but like originally, like there's permaets and fire emmblem. Yeah. And I remember when I first my first fire emmblem was on like a Game Boy addvance or DS I forget which one U And I didn't know about Permadath and my favorite character, I just attached to him, died and there was just no way to get him back Yeah. And I'm like, I'm never playing this again and I stoped playing. Yeah. I know it was part of the game, but I just didn't like it as a kid. It's tough. It's tough when you've like invested so much time into like that guy. L I think Final fantasy tactics had a similar thing where it's like, well, they die But if you can get to them and get their soul, you can survive them or whatever But otherwise they're gone. Yeah. And like the amount of times I was like, I spent forever working the job class system to get this high level like calculator geomancer or whatever, you know, like h very, very aggivated very aggivated Yeah, so I might check out Fire emblem It will it will depend on how much Part of the issue my issue with three houses was it felt embarrassing to play. I really enjoyed it. But it it did make me feel like, you know, every time my girlfriend showed up, like I had to convince her I'm not like ranking waifus in the privacy of my bedroom afterwards. It is very much like has become an anime game Wh has like a certain You know, anime games are fun and good and good quality, but you cannot deny that there is like a stink about it in like the public sphere You know, Yeah there's some qualities to an anime game that people associate with it. O of them being? Magic cittities. Magicittities. That's how it magic cittitiesies I thought it was interesting that in the direct, there's also The Jujitsu Kaizen vampire Survivor game? Yeah, so I'm very familiar with Ponkol's output. I played the I started playing vampire survivors, I think two years before Csole. And then I got crawlers as soon as it came out. But so explain to me what but I don't know Jiujitssu Kaisen at all. So explain to me what this is. I mean, Judis Kaisen shown in anime, you know, your classic teenagers in high school, they get powers and like fight things and Jesu Kaisen, they're like demons or spirits. I forgget exact. It's been a long time. I didn't catch up with Jesus Kaizen. I watched like season one, read the comics or the manga for a little bit, I dropped it. Yeah, I think it's just vampire Survivor with Adriu Kaisen skin over it. Okay But what's really interesting is that it's kind of a battle rooyale as well. L a bunch of people are playing in the same maybe. But at the end it's only it's a one v one and it's two people fighting each other That's wild. Which is crazy. with the vampire sllayers like, I mean, was to say especially vampire survivors where the whole thing is like you don't have to fire any weapons. Yeah. It's just like going to be be to bullet around. Yeah, whichich I think is kind of cool. Yeah. I really like that. And I do like that vampire sururvivors They're getting the opportunity to make stuff like this. Yeah because I think they're really cool. I think the developers are really cool. So to get opportunities to put IP onto it and make it more unique. I think it's really fun. Yeah. I I haven't kept with Judg'suise in a long time, so I might not pick it up, but I just thought it was cool that a collab was happening at all. Yeah and also I'm just I'm rooting, you know Ponk' still kind of a small outfit. I'm like, hell yeah. L anytime someone tiny can compete with the big boys, I'm like, abbsolutely go for it. Go nuts. It's crazy And there's also I thought it was so funny that it was the Nintendo direct that He decided to launch a new Kingdom Hearts Ford trailer? Yes. Be it's classically it was classically a PlayStation exclusive. Yes. Ice the mainline games U, But I mean, there was a lot of like side games that were on Nintendo consoles U But yeah, there was like, I guess we're gonna announce more Kina Marsa under Nintendo direct And I think it's to help boost the sales of the Kinom Hearts collection that they're selling. R, whichich is like one through three So you get to play one through three, catch up and then play four. Yeah I know Evan was really excited. I was gonna say I don't care about Kingdom Hearts, but it would feel disrespectful to. Evan's leegacy on B to not at least shout it out I also saw there was some controversy over whether or not the Kingdom Hearts collllection cover art had been created using AI. Yeah. people pointing out like some inconsistencies in Sora's shoes and Donald had too many fingers on one hand or not the same amount of fingers was different. Yeah, you know. and I will not use this to turn into an AI tirade because m's too short and I'm not caffeinated enough. It is I am heartened by the fact that more and more frequently it seems to be the case when people find out that AI was used in something, whether that's early development art on something like Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis or Claire Obscure or Promotional art like like Sora that they are disappointed Yeah that feels like the right direction to be moving in to me, But at the same time I also know that sometimes mistakes like that can happen from humans. I Yeahah, That's what I'm saying. You know, like And so I don't, I don't know I haven't I haven't dug deep enough on it.m I'm not a graphic designer. I don't have the grounds to say like, it's definitely AI, you know, or whatever Um, But I do think it's telling that Its it's a sign of the times, as they say That so many things are AI Yeah that rather than thinking, oh, hey, somebody screwed up and like putting an extra finger on Donald It's the immediate thing is like it must be AI. and I don't like You know. Yeah. So I I don't know. I don't know whether these are human mistakes or AI mistakes or whatever. That's like the other consequence that you don't even think about with like AI generated things is that even Like it's now harder to distinguish what is what? Yeah. just you just can't really know. Yeah. And so everything is suspicious now. Yes which is what's which is what sucks U I'm tired of being suspicious. I just want to know what's real. That's all I want to know. Just tell me, please. Yes. One more thing I just wanted to point out in the director, I think is fun is there was a one piece like dining game, like a diner dash game U It was like one piece gourmet food or something. Oh was say Grandrand Gourmet. One piece Grand Gourmet. and I only wanted to point it out because the logo looks really similar to a board game called onene Piece Pentop Panic And The reason why I know this is because my fiance worked on that game. Oh She actually made that logo. No she. Yeah. She used to work at a toy company, a small toy company who developed one piece Mental banic And she helped design like the look of it and we were both looking at the The logo of one piece Grand Gourmet like wait a minute, that was kind of familiar. Yeah. becausecause it's both about like food stuff. Yeah, ye. And granted, you can't There's not a lot to go off of it. So it's like the colors of one piece plus like some cutlery and the hat on the logo. It was kind of similar to her logo where the hat on the logo, it was a forkin knife But this one had a forking spoon something it was a little bit different. We'll neverally distinct. We'll never know if they stole the logo ID or not, but I just was like You know, where they definitely took the idea. Yeah definitely think the U I'm not I'm not related to any of these I'm not situated. this is not Binding I don't know if they took it. Right, right. You're not making an allegation. I'm not making an allegation I'm just saying the have similar vibes I think it're just funine. just watching like, wait, it looks familiar. The other game and this is a game that like I don't really know much about the gameplay, but every time I see art for it, it's gorgeous is orbitals. Oh ye seems like it's very specifically coded to like early eighties anime feels like you you know animation better than I do. so if I'm talking out my ass, please correct me. but u You know, When they first announced Orbitals, I read about like what kind of game it is. and I don't remember anything about what I read other than I went like, oh, it's not for me, but it's gorgeous. And I wanted to flag it just because it It does I just I love when a game has like such a unique style likeike I was you know, it was like after the PlayStation direct when we were talking about Komori, you know, where it's like, I don't know if I'll play Kamori. It looks great and I love Yokai stuff so I probably will. But like, you know, it's easy to forget that for years, you know, certainly through like the PS one, PS two, PS three, PS four era, everybody was chasing photorealism. Yeah. And that was considered sort of the pinnacle of what gamees should look like And I like that we're kind of getting to a place where people are going like, well For certain things, yeah, you want photorealism Not for this, you know, and I just I really love the look of orbitals. I probably won't play it But it does look unique in a way that I really want to support. Yeah. You know, and it feels like a co op there needs to be a little bit of that. And I think both of us are like, I don't want to do that. you know Interesting, so it was out of respect. Yeah I think guys were like seething. you're like, you gott to go over there. and why don't you going there? or you want to go this way? No. No, no, no, no. But I am looking forward to, it's so funny because like I w't play that, but I'm hoping when my daughter gets out of this summer convince her to play Star Fox co op with me where one person pilots and the othererss gunner all right right. That's got strong double dash vibes and double dash double dash is the best of the Mario cards. like that was a that was a peak. They definitely yeah, Double dash is a good one. So good. so good. And I said, okay, so I started pulling my pants back up, but then I felt sheepish doing it while basically making eye contact with him. So my instinct was to turn around But then that just meant that I was turning around and in front of me Like just like right in his face. like this poor guy That's so funny.
