I think it needed to be a movie for people who had never heard of Star Wars. Yeah. And also because Mando and Grogu, because there's like a whole series, I think that still people felt like bogged down by the lore of it. Yeah for sure. I was like, sure, Well I didn't watch all of Mando and Grogu and even if you don't have to watch it to enjoy the movie I think there's still like a Yeahah, you feel like you're missing out. Yeah. Youre you're coming late. Yeah Welcome back to the break room. It is Tuesday, may twenty sixth. There's a lot going on in the nerd worldld to stay on top of, so we're gonna do a round above the headlines. Hit the graphic. I do have a graphic for that. All right, Okay, great. So yeah, we're going to get to the headlines in just a minute but first, we had a holiday weekend. W on yesterday. Ryan, what'd you get up to? This weekend, I had a great time with my fiance and we went to Maguna Beach. Yeah. And we basically just sat on the beach Bakeaking the sun for hours. Yeah and then ate seafood because that seems right. Yeah, yeah yeah. Even though even though it's kind of messed up actually when you think about it, to eat fish in front of the fish's home. Yeah, that is a little like like, oh, I went to McDonald's but I went to the one that's like right outside the farm. Eact. Yeah. A little messed up, but the vibes are right. Yeah. so we did it anyway U Lona beach is crazy because it's a nice beach, but I didn't know there's The main street is like a freeway And the only way you can get across is through these like You press this button and warning lights flash. Yeah. And you just have to hope that they see it and slow down. Yeah. Otherwise you can get run over. I almost got run over. I was crazy. That's I have a friend who who is grandparents. so now it's his parents house, but his grandparents bought a house on I want to say Redondo, but like One of the beaches where it's like, it's their house, a street and then the beach. you know, like And I went to a party out there once, lovely time, but it was the same thing where it's like, I want to go to the beach, but there's like a stream of rollerbladers and past it was like playing frogernoy. You know, and then and then they're also right across the street from like a volleyball court. So even once you get across, there's still some like shucking and jiving you need to do before you can get to the water. Yeah, that sounds lovely. It was a good time. Did you grow up near the beach or no? Not really. And honestly, I wasn't really a beach guy. Yeah I didn't really I didn't seek it, but I always have a good time on the beach. My fiancee loves the beach. try to go as much as we can. Yeah. And she's been missing the sun, so we're like, it's gotta get a little golden. I grew up like my elementary school got flooded during Hurricane Andrew because like it was so close to to Long Island sound and like I used to just like, you know, still every time I' at my fol' placent down there or it's like literally a two minute drive I never go to the beach in California I cannot remember the last time It's so funny. I went to the beach in California. It's only when I'm in New England and I'm like Oh water temperatures are solid fifty two. Yeah I'll go in. you know, like I've heard from I think I think it was Joshua at work or someone else they like Ellie butes suck? And I guess I don't know any difference. but I think they're fine. I think they're fine. They're Yeah, my issue with LA beaches, partart of it is I'm not a swimmer. I'm not good at swimming. So my issue with LA beaches is my favorite thing about a beach is like when there's lots of rocks to like creep around on and explore and find like weird little critters and stuff And LA beaches have none of that. But if you go up the coast to like San Luis Abispo or like Moro Bay or Cayukos like greatreat beaches if if that's your style. If you're like Hey, the highlight of my day will be finding a colony of sea anemones. L yeah, then you're set. U But yeah, but because I'm not a swimmer or a surfer, it's like, what am I supposed to do here? Drown in the shallow end? That's fair. That's fair. What did I get up to this weekek? I played a lot of mass effffect Andromeda. I You know what Memorial Days for the gamers. It really, it really is. I started replaying Mas Fpect and drrameda. It is not best mass effect game What? Only because it's such a bloated open world take on that. because I've played it before I better understand where the good parts are and where the open world parts are and I can kind of like navigate it. So I did all I played a lot of that. My girlfriend started a biohock playthrough. She's never played before. Um, And so like when I'm not playing Mass effect in the background, I just hear like the, you know Little sisters and the big daddies run A lot of like old time like I'm sitting in the basement you know, like u kind of music. And then we have a pool. So we had some people over on Monday for a pool party which was like very chill. I was telling Brian beforehand, I'm so antisocial that even at a party in my own home. I found I found a way to be the least cric corner of it. the whole time. I mean it's your own place. so you kind of have a you get to you get to do it. You get to I know, I know. And also everyone there knows that like like like half of the partle was like, Berg is going be at a party. and I was like barely, you know, I live here but ye yeah, yeah. Yeahah literally I wrote I live here, period. That was my That was my reply. notot I'm going. just't I literally have to be here. But it was it was fun that everybody brought dogs, there were kids, you know, like that that's the level of socializing I can handle is being like, let me show you a cool like piece of a spine on my bookshelf, you know or whatever. Yeah. I want to say the same at parties. If a party doesn't have like a little section whereere people are playing video games or board games. Yes, I don't know what I'm doing. Yes, I don't know what I'm doing. Yes And like and like even when I used to go to bars, it's like, you know, if there's a pinbom machine like saw a shuffle board, great, I'm locking in. I'm doing that all night. Otherwise, what are we doing? Just we're just sitting? You know, like we're just sitting in paints. I don't want to for drinks I could do that at home, you know? I wantna talk to you. I to play game. Yeah. ye. somebody. Yeah. Yeah, it was it was a good time. Well, should we should we segay into the headlines of the day? So what we put a bunch of stuff in here. I think probably the biggest headline right now is Mando and Grogu came out on the twenty second Whatever Friday was Um The reviews and box office performance have been like terrible, but seems like a collective. Yeah, okay? Yeah You know, which on the one hand, like as someone who grew up on Star Wars One of the things, I haven't seen Mando and Grogo yet, so I can't comment directly on the movie you know, but one of the things that I was really excited to see in the Mando and Grogu trailer was how much like practical like puppetry and animatronics there were and stuff like that U And one of the things that I was apprehensive about was like, well, is this going to feel like you know, two or three episodes of of Mando season four that take the cut or whatever Um You know, and it seems like based on the reviews, everyone's like Yeah You know And so my kind of question and my sort of thking on it, because you haven't seen it yet either, right? No, not yet. I haven't had time. There's a whole galaxy to say. Honestly I feel like that in and of itself kind of shows the hype level of this movie. Yeah. where it's like even when us were in this world, we weren't like biting at the bit to watch it. No It' like we'll see. And then like we've heard like mixed reviews. Yeah, like obsession I was excited to see and then like I couldn't go see it the first week and it was out. and like people are still having a hard time Yeah getting tickets to it. likeike, you know, it's it's an instant classic. I loved it. but like You know, just the difference in like, will I get up off the couch for this one? That's where like buzz becomes really important. Like exactly. I might still watch it from my couch at a party in my home. you know, later on But you know, I guess my question is like For Star Wars, not just Mandome Grogu, but for Star Wars at this point in its history as a franchise You know The fandom feels kind of split whereere I think you have people like me who, you know are either like elder millennials, GenX, even older who like, you know grew up on the first three movies And then like, you know, I never clockked in with the prequels. I thought Force Awakens and Last Jedi were pretty good. I didn't like the episode nine, whatever that was called. Yeah You know, and then you have the other people who are like, no, that's like there's like people who came up on the prequels and like, you know, because of that got really into clone wars and like stuff that's being explored more in the Fy corner of the universe like What is the bar both creatively and financially that Mando would have had to clear to please everybody? You know is that an impossible task in the first place? I guess it's sort of I think so. I think it's just I don't know if it's just becausecause Mando Grogu wasn't really like a big pillar of like U Star Wars stuff. it's like the Jedi stuff. It's not it was it did really I think we have to give credit where creditss due during pandemic It it had its it its moment Yeah. you know, like very very much so and deservedly so. you know, like not even to take anything away from it. But yeah, sorry, but yeah, not to not no no. it's I think It did do pretty well when I was debuted, but like From what I remember, like people kind of felt that the show went on like a downward turn. Yeah. It kind of like people didn't like it as much. And even with Star Wars proper, the mainline Star Wars, I think the same thing happened with those movies where at first everyone was like hyped and it was like o my got Star Wars is back. And then it slowly kind of like people were petered out of it. I was like, what is the second movie? and another the third movie? is Yeah What's going on here? And so the momentum has stopped. I think similar to MCU where like Pete the zeitgeist is that, oh, this isn't as like we don't these aren't must see things anymore. Yeah. And so with Mando Grogu, I think Mando Grogu needed to be like People love this movie. I think it needed to be a movie for people who had never heard of Star Wars. Y. Yeah, which is why I'm actually Very excited and hopeful for I think like Starfighter. same. it's like there's no context.'s I don't have no idea what's going on. and it could be exciting. especially given Ryan Gosling's previous big hit u Project Hella Mary where it was I mean, there was a book, but relatively I think no one really knew of the con. But I think also like, you know, just sort of piggybacking off what you're saying, like one of the things that I feel is a barrier to entry to any any huge franchise like Star Wars, like Marvel, like DC. you know, at this point, is this sense of I don't know where to jump in. Yeah. Is this the place where I jump in? If this movie doesn't stand alone, how do I jump in And you know, I think Starfighter seems like they're actively going like, Yeah, I don't just's a guy and it's a guy a spaceship shooting lasers. Like that's all you need to know, you know, like, which is great, you know, like and I hope that Um all the big franchises, but since we're talking about Star Wars specifically, I hope that something like Starfighter trades in on actor recognition as opposed to character recognition, right? Like MCU has really shifted things. so it's like, well, you don't really care Wh's playing the you're not going to see a Robert Downey Jr movie. you're going to see an Avengers movie, You know, like That's that's a different frame frame of mine I think it wass Rrian Gosling People are like, No, I'm a Ryan Gosling fan. I'll go see it because he's in. Yeah. You know, and with Mandor and Grogu, I think there are a lot of Pedro Pascal fans, but he's got the thing on half the time. you know, like it's not doesnn't hit the same, you know Yeah. And also because Mando and Grogu, because there's like a whole series, I think that still people felt like bogged down by the lore of it. for sure. I was like, sure, I didn't watch all of Mando and Grogu. and even if you don't have to watch it to enjoy the movie, I think there's still like a Yeah, you feel like you're missing out. Yeah. You you're coming late. Yeah. I need to know these characters My favorite two Star Wars things since the first three movies. O I guess I have to put a lump Rogue one in with Andor, But my favorite are Andor slash Rogue one, callall Rogue one Andor season three.. But you know, Andor and skeleton crew. And I think part of what I like about those is One, you know, like they do tie into things, but you don't need any prior knowledge. Like Andor, I think pulls off a very difficult feat in which It recontextualizes the first trilogy. in a way that strengthens the first trilogy. Yeah. And so even if you've never seen anything, like you can watch Andor and just appreciate it as a story about creeping fascism and corporate capture by fascist control and all this other stuff And then Skeleton crew which takes as granted that everything in Star Wars happened But because the main characters don't really know anything about it, except like I heard there might be a thing called Jedi, you know, like you the audience don't need to know any more than that either. And they're both also like Andor is very clearly like, you know, for like, you know, sort of a more mature end of the Star Wars fandom Sketon crew is like aggressively like, hey, Pretend you were twelve and you would love this Whereas they feel like sometimes like you know, the Fallony stuff falls into a little bit of a like middle ground between those two. and I'm notar who it is Yeah. It's funny because the Falloni verse stuff is almost like Like you you really have to know. but it's also this like Side world where it's not the main world And so it's like it's a it' Honestly, maybe the worst of all the world. Maybe Yeah and again, like I haven't seen Mando and Grogoo, so I'm not I'm not trying to say anything spe about that movie, you know, like U one way or the other, but Looking at the franchise as a whole You know, one of the things I read, I believe it was a variety review. I'm blanking on the name of the reviewer, but they were saying like, you know Nando and Grogu feels kind of smaller than the big like they said hundred we've come to expect from Star Wars And their conclusion was like, you know, depending on what you want from this movie, your mileage may vary like that's that's neither good or bad. It's just kind of how it is. They were like, well, maybe that's the path forward. You know, like maybe we've already like saved the entire galaxy. Maybe now we got to bring the stakes back down, make them more personal. Maybe that's what last Starfighter winds up being because it's about goosling in that kid. U But yeah, so that's that feels like that's kind of like the dominant thing from this this weekend. Not for sure. Yeah. yeah It might it might just be yeah, the Star Wars as a as a whole doesn't do the big epic stuff anymore. So all these like small stories that you can tell. Yeah. I mean s they could just do sci fi general. Well this is sci. So I have a friend who's an exec at a movie studio, which I will not name because I realized after I like clocked up this story in my head to tell that like maybe it's not for public consumption, but I think I think I can be like vague enough. But u Also it sounds like I just made up a friend. Oh my uncle in yeah, yeah. I' f of that. Yeah. But so she she was at a meeting where someone came to them and wanted to remake Starship Troopers. The Paul Verhoeven film based on the Robert Heinan novel And um And they wanted to and the film is famously satirical But also in the way of so much satire, the worst Chuds took the wrong messages from it Apparently these are the Chuds who they want to make the movie for. So like well we want to make Starship troopers, but we want to lean away from the satire and lean into just this is like a military like triumph movie And she was like, well, if you want to do that, Just make a new movie. You don't need the Starship Troopers' label for that. Just make a sci fi movie about people fighting aliens. like you can't copyright that concept. Just do it, you know, like And you know, I wonder if with' Star Wars, it's like, yeah, if they just made like again, Skeleton crerew, it's just a sci fi movie about kids finding a spaceship Tomorrow morning is knocking. Stock your fridge now. How about a creamy moocha Rappuccino drink? or a sweet vanilla? Smooth caramel maybe, orr white chocolate mocha. Whichever you choose, delicious coffee awaits. Find Starbucks Rappuccino drinks wherever you buy your groceries Introducing Taco Bell's new jalapeno citrus salsa with bright citrus real red jalapenos, guailo chiles. Usually, you add sauce to the food, but when the sauce is this good, the food is just there to get the sauce to your mouth That roed quesadia? notot a roed quesadia anymore Now it's a sauce shovel. Taco Bell'salapeno citrus salsa. Get it with any item on the cananttina chicken menu. while it's here. They participate in U.S Taco Bell locations for a limited time only while supplies last. contact store for availability. That's really all there is to it, you know, like or TV show, I guess. You know, like, you can do that. Star Wars is a broad enough universe that you can you can carve out a corner of it the way Tony Gilroy did, the way skeleton crew did and just like kind of have fun with it I just think I think these big IP have sllowly, generally speaking, lost trust in the audience has like lost, I think trust in L especially because the movieies are so expensive now. they like want a big epic really good thing. Yeah. So why I think Project Hel Mary benefited a lot from like really good word of mouth. L people Absolutely. This isute Fantastic movie. goo watch it. Also obsession. Yeah, you know like obsessions, like, you know, I would argue I hear what you're saying on the big epic thing. And I think for these big franchises, that's true I think for're going to the movies though, people just want a good time. you know, like because it has to be worth their money. I think obsession my neighbor's son in law was the key grip on obsession. Oh So I've got all this like, you know. It it's a documentary. But you know, like obsession was shot on a shoestring budget. I think it was like a million dollar budget. I want to say it was like a total of like three weeks of shooting. like something that even for a low budget movie is not much. I believe it had four total locations, which might mean zero company moves, might mean like one or two company moves. but really shot for nothing, but but really anchored by a very good script and incredible performances. You know, like in such a way where when you watch U the lead actress Indy Navvearette you're reminded that like, oh a good performance can be a special effect sequence that is just as thrilling as like a car chase or anything out of your your favorite or even your least favorite fast and Furious st. you know, And I think I think that when the When the vibe and when the reason behind the movie being made feels so self evident, it's like, hell yes. When the reason behind the movie feeling made be like, we got to keep the rights to these guys. Yeah you know, like then you're like, It's like was there a story that you had to tell with Mando Grogu? Yeah, ye. O did you just think that Grogu would sell exact We needed to sell more Grogu's Yeah, so I mean, again, like I am I grew up on Star Wars. It pisses me up. I'm pissed at my daughter Test to my daughter that she would never let me show her Star Wars as a kid and now that she's thirteen is too smart to be tricked into it U you know, and I want it to succeed. so there can't be like new generations of fans and maybe there are and I'm just, you know, too old and unable to use Twitch to be able to connect everything them. but Uh But yeah, it was it was seeing seeing the box office totals roll in and seeing it be underwhelming and seeing the critical reviews not even be bad. Just be right. It is fine, you know, like it just feels like this is a mass produced product now. in a world where media is so readily able to be consumed everywhere. Yeah, you need like a big reason to You're not just competing with the other movies of the box office weekend. you're competing with like Netflix's library, you know, like even YouTube and Yeah like you're competing with everything Um Let's segue into video games really quick. Okay? So there's a Sony state of play coming up, I believe on june second. God So next Monday, unless I'm doing the math wrong. That sounds right A And there's a couple of big things we're expecting to see there. We're expecting to see some footage or perhaps gameplay of Insomniacs new Wolverine. Oh yeah, that's right. whichich is very exciting. I'm really, really stoked for that. There's rumors we're going to get new God of War and new naughty dog news. I don't know how valid those are Okay. There's like there's like all sorts of I mean, Amazon is developing a God of War TV show and I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some footage for that, which I'm not as excited about as if we're going to get another God of War game The rumor is that the new God of War game is going to be based on Freya, you know, who's like a pretty big character in the first two and a huge character in Norse mythology broadly. But u but yeah, so like there's there's potentially some very exciting stuff There was a rumor going around a few weeks ago that we were on the cusp of getting a new GTA six trailer And not for nothing. todayoday was GTA six's original release date Yeah. I don't I don't know if if those really have any water behind them. Rockstar seems pretty tight liipped on it. But yeah, so am I am very excited for for Sony State of play. You know, like they're not like Nintendo will kind of roll out a direct with no warning. You know, you'll always find out like an hour later be like Nintendo did like an eight hour picopia stream this morning, you know? like But but yeah, but I'm really I just thought that all the Insomniac Spider Man games were so fucking good. and I'm really excited to see something more bloody and violent. Oh yeah. ye. I'm excited to see how what story they're going to tell with Wolverine. Yeah. just because yeah Wolverine is such a Thepider Man' like a story of a hero in New York and The home He's in he has to protect New York from all these villains. but Wolverine, you could really do anything. I feel like the core Wolverine story is always like, you know, at least cinematically has been. Why should I care? Yeah. And someone going, here's why you should care and I'm going I don't care. I guess I'll have a daughter or something. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, but I'm very much looking forward to that. So you know, maybe by this time next week, we'll have a little bit more news. GT six now, I think is supposed to come out November later this year. Yeah later this year. And it's still honestly, who knows with like all the stuff going on with rock stars and New Rockstara Rockar Where New Rockstar Oh God. Rockstar gaming because the whole like union stuff, I don't know if they solved any of that. I didn't really keep up. This game made it's going at one h the time. I mean, I think it's easy for people to forget that like the video game industry is larger than the bed industries of movie, TV and music. Um and by like not like, well, if you combine them video game still edges it out a little bit like still by a healthy fucking margin And at one point in time, GTA five and GTA online were the most Profitable, not like the most revenue, the most profitable entertainment objects in the history of humankind Rockstar games will put out GTA six how or high water. They they're banking on that being their next decade of income, you know, So it will come out, you know, and I think they're not unless they have to answer to the investors which they might not have to do with GTA six.. You know like they might be able to answer to investors with Exanded offerings or increased monetization of GTA five U you know, increased player counts or something like, hey, you sign up for GTA GTA online now and you get a discount on GTA six in a year. like you know, there's there's ways they can goose it so that the the the stockholders are still takaking care of But like There is no universe in which GTA six does not happen That's fair, That's fair and likely This year is twenty twenty six? Yeah Yeah, yeah. U Yeah I mean I'm excited. I also not recently, but this year, my fiance for the first time I played GTA five. Oh yeah. and I also U never seen anyone play it. That game was crazy. It's crazy. Thatame is crazy. Yeah. So GJ six is gonna it's going to be buggers. I mean, I have been buggers By the time GTA three So my my father is an attorney And in the nineties, he worked for I can't remember if they were called takeake two or two K games back then, but the parent company that Rockstar spun out And while he was working for them, we would get free copies of their games. Yeah, just because like, you know, he, you know, he would work for them and they'd be like, o, you have kids, they like games here, take a couple. you know, So like Among like, you know that You know, in addition to like the games you've heard of also u Little known Star Wars fighting game Masters of Terra Kazi U Dungeons and Dragons fighting game, Iron and Blood Fighting g. Yeah, like like back like on the PS one when like the three D fighting game was like, you know But u but also GTA one and two on on PlayStation, you know? And so even by the time GTA three came out, like, which Again, people forget like GTA three is is arguably what popularized what we think of now is the open world concept of gaming. that like really was Fucking great, but at that point I'd been like, I've been playing some version of GTA for like eight years now, you know, like So I think GT and I've taken off since then, you know, like GTA six might be How I come back to the fold. Yeah. not I'm not broadly an open world gamer. I get stressed out when there's too many icons on my map. That's fair You know what I mean? Like I can do I can do Elden Ring or like Breath of the Wild because they're the opposite of that. say I like Breath of the Wild because it's so limited. You can choose There's an option to get rid of all the UI. Yeah. J just play and like that's It's great It's great.reat And then it makes it so when you discover something, you're like You're not like, why I was coming over here because there was a dot map. Yeah. You're like, I don't know, I saw a cool tree. I went to the tree. I found the horse shrine, you know, or whatever U, But so like I might I might check out GTA six if the reviews of like the the mainline story are good Yeah I think it will be. how old were you when you played the GTAs then? Oh GTA one, I think I played when I was like I think GTA one came out when I was fourteen or fifteen. Okay, okay. And then I think GTA two came out right before I went to college. So maybe like when I was like eighteen or something. It was more reasonable for you to play it. I was like, where you're like young and your dad was just like, here's a viitolin video game that people are gonna Also yes. I mean, you know, like keep in mind, I have two siblings and they played U But yeah,ah. So that's that's next week. Well, you know, if there's any good good news from there like W will rain Yeah, especially Wolverine. I think Wolverine is going to be Also, like rise of Hydra is still supposed to come out sometime this year. L That's the Captain America Black Panther onene set. I heard France. It was Oh, maybe I heard like a false news, but I thought it was like Low and shutdered Oh really? I haven't heard that. Yeah. so far as I know, it's it's still on the way, but it was supposed to come out like summer twenty twenty six did get delayed. So Who knows, who knows when that shows up? And of course one GTA does come out Every developer' going to give them at least like every's to clear out. sameame has happened with Silk song where all the indie guys We' like, no, no, no, no, no, we also want to go play Silk song this weekend, you know, Okay. other other news. We got a new Toy Story trailer today for Toy Story five. Have you had a chance to what. Okay. so yeah. So what So tell me your history with Toy Story and what are your thoughts on the new trailer I mean, I Toy Story is a great franchise. I think It's always heartfelt, it's always fun, it's always a good story I admittedly skipped for U I went one, two, three I was like One, two, three, trailer for five One two three, three four five Be like I was like, you know, the three was everyone always says it's such a great ending of the trilogy and it felt like oh, you're definitely rehashing it U Especially because the concept was more like, what is a toy I think like this concept with five is makes more makes more sense of like the evolution of toys. like should you play with toys now that like technology exist. Yeah have iPad, iPad kids. All that being said, even though I skippp four, I am excited for five. I kind of want to see how they treat You know, are they going to go like technology bad or like is moderation good or Yeah what's what's the role of toys in the modern era? I think that's really it's going to be super fun U but also in the trailer I think I saw I think there's some comments. I saw like You know, this the part where Jesse like rides a real horse. Yeah That like environment was like the environment I think she was abandoned and in her like flashback. Oh Re? They keep flashing back to the toorly thing Yeah. She was abandoned. I'm like why did they keep doing that? In the part where Jesse's also like punching the the computer or whatever yeah. The Agri is running away. You see a bunch of images saying I found your toys or something And like responding to like Cse Girl ninety five or whatever. Oh really. I think what's gonna to happen is she's gonna send her away to her original owner who's like been looking for her toy And I'm like wait, that's gonna be so weird. Yeah. It's like she's with her original owner who like abandoned her, but but also is now in college. jer. Yeah, whatever age she's in and obviously wants her back. I think she does successfully get it because we see the horse thing and I'm like, but then she has to Wrestle with being back with her, but What does it mean to be a toy you need to be played with? she still want to go back I think there's some potential for some crazy shenanigans Yeah, I mean, Toy Stories one were like you know, the first one came out again dating myself here. I was in high school, you know, like and that was a big deal both from a technological perspective, you know, like and just like, whoa, you know, it's just a great movie U When my daughter was young, that was one of the ones she would watch like, you know, three times a day on loop. And so then I like read this like BFI film book about like tooy story from like a film theory perspective and like getting into how was made and then I was like, now I can watch it with like a deeper appreciation. I'm like sry, you know, I really think the first three toy stories are fucking masterpieces All three of them. I think the I think the third one rightly gets put up on a pedestal because it is crazy that it was so good that it made people forget how good Toy Story was. Right two is arguably the weakest of the first three and it's still fantastic. It's that's no knock on two It's just a testament to the dizzying heights that three reached Four is five If you if for if four were a new franchise, you know, like if four were obiously like Dreamworks tries to do Toy story or whatever. like You'd be like, damn, that was great. Like It only pales in comparison to Toy Story three, which what an Toy Story one pales in comparison to Toy Story three, you know, like what an impossible standard. So You know, I will probably see five whether or not my daughter wants to just because I just because I like the franchise, you know, like Um But it is kind of at a point where I'm like Uh, you know, I sort of needed to The movie is not for me. I am not the target audience for this movie. so my list of demands is made very tongue in cheek acknowledging that like I don't think I'm the guy. You know, but it really does kind of need to prove to me Like, hey, Toy Story three felt like a final chap Toy Story four felt like another final chap Yeah If we're digging this back up, I need you to show me there's a reason Yeah. You know, like like do you remember . You just turned seventeen yesterday.. Also Brian made fun of me today because I referred to myself as grandpa in a DM. I referred to Gina as grandma. I just aren't grandpa grandp. Yeah. I just. I I be in literal number probably that's crazy. Could be this could be. but I You know, I don't know if you remember like when LCD sound System, like, you know, put out three albums and it was like, hey, We're retiring. We're packing it in. And like James Murphy gave this like huge, great final concert at Madison Square Garden and like they did a documentary on it and all this stuff. And then like You know, six years later, He decided to release another album and was like and put out this letter that like one, everybody gave him shit because they're like, you told us this was the end. likeike we really emotionally invested it. And I thought he acknowledged that in his own like rambly way Uh, You know, and the thing he said when they put out the album was like, yeah, I mean, I could just make a new band called like, you know, James Murphy and and the Jumps or something, But like I don't want to make music without these people who you already know as LCD sound systems. So we might as well And the new album' great, you know, like u That was the one that had O baby and American Dream and call the police on it. but u You know, so if Toy Story five is that like, you know, return of LCD sound system, I'm here for it. If it starts to feel like I think you guys just are running out of mascots to sell toys. Yeah, then it goes on the pile of like, Hey Pixar needs a new hit, you know, like it can't just all be sequels all the way down U so I'm again, I'm rooting for it. I'm always rooting for it. Yeah I do wonder if Toy Story even Is the target demo even children anymore. I don't know. because this is so parent coded of like iPad bad guys, don't you know? And like And then you'll be like all the vindictive not vindictive. Like parents are like, I knew I know iPad is bad. This is gonna verify that for I do think Toy Story has always been a little bit parent coded. That's fair. You know, but I think in the way I think parent coded in the way the best children's media is. We're like, you know I'll take Coco, for instance, just to take like a movie that's like, I think it might be a Coco two in the works Coco is fucking phenomenal. And also Encanto is fucking phenomenal But u But they they also deal with like pretty mature themes. You know, Coco talks about like death and legacy and Encanto' about like family and like dark family secrets and all this shit and Toy story has always been a little bit about like the things you have to say goodbye to when you grow up and move on, you know, which is like, so there they are a little parent coded, but they're parent coded in the way where it's like We want parents to watch this movie with their kids. You know, it's not just we want a movie that parents can put on for their kids to shut them up I think a lot of kids movies really are. And like no shade. Sometimes that's the boot. You just need to be able to check your email you know, It like I can't pretend we're all dogs anymore. Just please go watch Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse for like I just need I just need a minute. you know, That's okay. There's room for that too. But Toy Story has always felt to me at least since I was old enough to clock it Oh, this was always meant to be like something a parent and a kid share Yeah that helps guide both a parent and a kid through what could be a tricky conversation. othertherwise, you know, when are you going to bring up def You know, when you tell your kid like, you know until it's like you have to. But if you watch Cocoa, you can be like, yeah, you know what it's sad when people die, but we celebrate them through remembering them. And like and Ofnda is a way that like people do it some places. you know, like that's great, you know, like But u But yeah, Toy Story might be a way for parents to be like, you should really put down the iPad. It's killing your other toys. Your toys are gonna be sad. Yeah, yeah iPad. And then the parents are the ones who buy. Yes, exactly. Yeah, I mean, I remember when my daughter was little, she would watch these YouTube videos and it was when she was potty training and' be like, And sit in the bathroom, use my phone to watch associating potty time with phones immediately. And man and she would just be like,, I'm not done yet because she's watching her videos and like come so funny. Gaming the system. And my brother's kid does it too. Maybe it's just a family thing, but yeah, my brother's kid will faceetime me and be like, My dad said I could use the iPad while I was on the toilet. So calling you be like Thanks bud Let's hang out. Yeah the bathroom. Yeah, yeah. That's such a I mean, listen, I do the same thing. I'm like, I can't be on TikTok time. but if I'm in the bathroom like, one I just sit here do nothing. It's so funny. I gota scroll. It's so funny because I go to the bathroom like I'm sitting here and doing nothing.. I mean, that's beautiful. This is like the before times. I go to the bathroom like it's still nineteen ninety two You know, like You just like kind of listen to like the birds out the window. you know That' beautiful. I'm not trying to hang out You know what? You know what I mean? likeike whyy do I want to spend more time in the fucking bathroom? you know? likeike that's not that's not something I need assistance to do. It's not a goal I have. It just feels in this modern era where we're always on something I feel so weird if I'm pooping or if I'm eating without a phone in front of me, I'm like, wow, I'm doing just the action. Yeah. I can't I'll freak myself. I won't bring a book into the bathroom because again, I don't want to be in there long enough to get into a book, but I'll read while I'm eating and stuff. likeike that's like Or again stare out the window and listen to birds like, you know, like I'm Imagine that. I know. I know. I can It's different things,s different thing. Okay, so let's Let's continue moving on what we got We got Oh. Okay, u u Vought Rising had a trailer come out Yeah. it was leaked. shhortly after the boys finale U And then Amazon posted online going like here, this way you don't have to watch it on someone's phone.. I love I love the marketing team U I'm excited for Bought Rising. What were your thoughts on watching the trailer? I'm also excited. I think I just like the Bys universe. Yeah. It's just a fun place to be in despite all the like horrific things, but it it's like horrifying in a almost mortal combat esque way. Yeah, it veers over to slapsticks for me for sure. It's just so over the top and it's so crazy that Um it's it becomes fun it becomes less like about the gore. And the fact that this is in the past the World War two era Yeah great the World War two ish era. Yeah, I think it's like, I think it's immediately post warar like nineteen fifties Jess Gina were saying. Oh that's right because Clara Vat is clearly not a Nazi anymore or she's she is but she's not not the man ons a Nazi, always a Naz That's fair.'s f. You don't you don knowt sign up to help Hitler take over the plane and then go like that was a f. What if they were really sorry Yeah I don't care. I sry. Apologize all you like' live your life. I don't got to forgive you, you Yeah, it's going to be and because it's in the past and It's the satire is not going to be so direct with our current world I do wonder if that's going to help or hurt vot raising Yeah, not sure. I'm curious. I mean, like, you know, the Mid mid century mid twentieth century America I think Madmen does this really well, but like, you know, was was such an era where the image of what America was was so out of lockstep with the reality of what America impossible to imagine now, I'm sure For many of our younger viewers, But I was there in the fifties I was president at the testrazy. Yeahah did. But you know, and I think one of the things the boys did really well overall, you know, was kind of show like, hey, here's the Here's the story you're being told about what this thing is, what soups are, how good they are And here's the reality, which is like much darker, sadder and grosser. Yeah You know, And so I think mid century America gives like a lot of fun landscape for that to play with. I haven't really read much about it other than You know, it's going be like Soldier Boy and Clire of Vu and then you know, the birth of Vu. likeike so I don't know if that's what they're angling for But knowing that the kinds of storylines that the boys tended to follow and the sorts of political commentary the show very clearly made It does feel like that is a pretty rich playground for them to monkey around on And I actually think generally speaking, mod rising might be Maybe that's wrong. I'm thinking it might be more notot popular, but more well received because the It seems like most of it is like lore and powers and showcasing I hate to say the non political stuff. Yeah. which is which I think You know, the boys itself It's a political show it a satire. So it had to do all the things, but I think that At least in a viewing experience, a lot of people who like, I don't like politics, my things kind of took issue with that. Yeah. Whereas this might be a lot more generally Well I think also even if it is, let's say it's as political. Yeah, there's an extra hoop that you have to jump through. to feel attacked if you disagree with what it'm saying. You know like sure. If you're u you know, if you're a Trump voter in twenty twenty six and you watch the boys, it's difficult not to feel like they're criticizing Trump and the Republican Party because they are. Yeah. But if you're that same person, you're watching vought Rising, like you know, if they're making broad comments about certain political philosophies you may agree with or align with There's a little bit of remove there. It's not as like yeah, we we Trump did AI Jesus yesterday and then today's episode of the Boys had Homelander thinking he was the second company of God. You know, like that's there's a little bit more distance, a little more breathing room there. So I don't know. and also period peace stuff is always fun. You know I'm saying it's fun. We might get into it next, but like Sider Spider Nar is also like I wish I had energy to watch it last night. I'm so excited to check it out. I've heard the reviews I've seen of it have been like It's super fun and inessential And I'm like, yeah Great. Yeah. good. I don't need everything to be like, if you don't watch this, you'll die! You know, like thats that's too much for me. I don't know. I need some pressure to watch this otherwise Yeah, yeah. I'm just sit here do nothing. I'm excited for it too, because it's also sort of a period piece. It's in the Yeahah, for sure. Nndescript that era. Yeah Interw war era. Yeah, the inter warar era. So interw and post warar Boys' post warar Spider Marain War seems like it's inter war. Yeah ye. And that just it creates Yeah becausecause there's like a level of separation, I think there can be more fun with it. It's like, oh my go, look at these like old timey stuff going on. I did get to watch the first episode So far, it looks like it's going to be a You're watching in color, right? I yeah. U bllack and white, it goes over my head. I'm like this is not a real show anymore. This is fake. t I'm not watching history channel. I'm watching fun things, which is Spiderman. But it's the best part of like What if I think, like the Marvel What if series. Y. where you get to see What if Spider Man was in interwar era and he was a detective? What would that look like? And what would what if the powers were different and like the way they got it and like All these characters How would they react in this era of the world? I think it's just so much fun to watch and I can't wait to watch the rest of it Yeah I also I also love like, you know, with Spider Noir or Spider Man noir, I keep I think Yeahah Spider Man noir, right? Like You know, like one of the things that I think is so fun about One of the things that DC Cics does really well And I'll cite Red Sun here as my favorite example of it. Is there ellseworld stuff. You know, like Red Sun is just hey, Superman landed in Soviet Russia. Oh yeah, yeah ye instead of, you know America. what goes on there? And at some point you could see Batman in a hat with like the ear flaps and the fur. you're like fuck yeah, this is great. you know, like you know, and Spiderm Man War feels just like that where it's likees, Hey, you know what? we're not gonna like we just think it would be fun to see Webs in nineteen thirties, New York Mbe with a fist fight at a whiskey fueled jazz club. you know, like that's and I'm like, yeah, you know what? great. Like if that's the operating thesis of the show Fantastic. I'm all for it. And that's exactly right. all you need to know is the concept of the hero and then seeing a new skin with it. It's also not lost on me that both vought Rising and Spiderm Man Wir are overseen by Amazon MGM. And it's the timing, I'm certain because of how these things work Right? Or they' both bearing on Amazon at least? Is vont ot rising. Yeah, I think it is airing on Amazon. Is it's Amazon. Yeah. It's Amazon. Yeah. Yeahah. I was a of confused because I was like oh, I forget. U until recently that vot rising or or the boys is a Sony TV production. This is being distributed by Amazon. Right. But yeah Yeah. and Sony also owns the right Spider Man. the corporate the corporate rat king of who's connected to who is so tangled But like, you know, I'm certain just because of having some familiarity with how things are developed There is not one guy you know, it's not Jeff Bezos with a cigar going like, explore genre time period. you know, like this's just not That's not how it happens, but it is kind of funny that Vought Rising is maybe getting a little bit of a marketing push tee up with S Aermmandaar So that's like, oh, hey, youre watching Spider Man Noir? You already like this kind of period piece thing Here'sra way to the boys that might like just one decade later different set of characters, you know, like that. That feels like smart marketing to me if it's intentional If it's unintentional happenppstance and that's still great. Also, just generally speaking, I think they since they are both Sony productions, I'm liking Sony decided to just be like, hey, we're just gonna make stuff and then distribute it like a bunch of places.. Like all the Sony movies that are on Netflix, I forgget Kop Dm H was a Sony production. Yes. Mitchell versus the Machines, I think, was that the That was I think that one was originally Sony, but then when Netflix bought it, they made Mitchells and the machines put in that weird like ten minute intro where they tell the whole plot of the movie where it's like like because if you watch Mitchell's in the machines Uh There's like ten minutes at the game with're like anyways, my family's crazy and machines take over. Oh I vaguely remember. And then if you watch it, you kind of realize how tacked on that is because then the machines aren't a reveal And the fact that there's machines taking over is treated in the movie like holy shit, what is happening? We were just going to college. And it's because Netflix has like, you know, kind of standing orders to be like you need to tell our audience what's going on before they space out and start doing chores you know, like, which pops up in all sorts of Netflix stuff. That was one of the more egregious ones where I seeing it. But I yeah, I really love Mitchels the machines. I'm not trying to I'm not trying to not Sony mean Sony still got the spiderverse. Look, Sony sometimes sometimes they kill it. Sometimes k is good. That kind of So do is PlayStation. You know what mean? Yeah. That's true. Yeah, so I'm stuck for that. So okay, now let's let's segue from Nerd News into a new segment we're calling Brian's cororner Only because that's how Brian wrote it. It' my. and I didn't bother to change it before I wrote it It would ch would have been sad. I would have made it Kim's corner honestly, just for s of just for sake of theiteration changed it It would have been my only chang. would have been my only tweak. Kim's corner U But u but that's just because, you know, you get those hard consonant sounds it's satisfying st out loud U But okay, walk me through. what have you been this is something we're going to trying on the brereak room more more, but like ye just truly What have you been engaging with that you're not engaging with for work? like just like in your downtime and leisure reading and anything you're curious about? That's what I want to hear And I'm here to say it in my corner. I just I've been seeing news here and there, but most recently I don't know if you've been hearing the thing with Hawaii has like implemented a new law that is their way of countering corporate money into politics? Yeah because it was the whole There was a way to fight against what is it? Citizens United, the ruling?ure. where I think that ruling was that corporations are considered as people. so them spending money in politics was under free speech. Yeah. I said I was allowed. But because of the Supreme Court ruling, they couldn't undermine that really. But the way Hawaii did it, which is really exciting, is they decided to U not look at if corporations have the right to vote, but if they have the power to vote at all Dout the United States history, the states had the power to give corporations their legitimacy. Yeah. That's the state jurisdiction. And so the way Hawaii did it was if you put money into politics or company, you cannot operate in Hawi. Oh, interesteresting. We were going to strip your power to operate right If you decide to put money into politics as a corporation. And so that way it doesn't undermine what the Yeah you still can So can But if you do, we're gonna to freaking, you can't operate here anymore. I love. I think that's so cool. That's great. because money in politics, look, I know politics is a thing, but I think we can all agree money in politics bad. It's so terrible. It's bad. It's I mean, it is crazy when, you know, it's the sort of thing where this is not a new or deep revelation, but when you're like, like the rich keep getting richer, it's like because they structure the system to get them more like we don't need trillionaires. L a political system that allows billionaires and trillionaires is a choice. Y. And we're seeing gerrymandering being ratcheted up to a whole the gerrymandering recently has been so racist that that the courts are like, Alabama, you can't do that. you know, like Um You know, and so but that all comes from ultimately the influence of the wealthy via corporations in politics. And I'm excited to see that fucking get under And really exciting. It reallyally excitingcause also if California did that, that'd be huge. Like when California implements new fuel standards, we're such a huge economy that the whole country has to follow suit So like Take a lesson. Yeah new su or whoever's going to be next. I mean, even corporations, you know, Hawaii is still relatively small, but there's like Hospitality people hospitel is huge. That's huge. So all the hotel airlines. Any airline. Yeah, they have to abide by this Otherwise they'll be barred from working in Hawaii. Yeah I obviously, there's going to have to be like a lot of political and court fights to make this like really happen. Yeah. But the fact that I got I think ratified is really exciting Gives me hope, honestly, guys, if I can be real with everybody Politics is given me a dreary. like I was feeling down all the time. No I know it's hard to believe. Yeah. we're' an Asian American man in this country? I know. I know. we're killing it out here. But no, it's I've been told you're gonna replace me and take my job. That. This is what I have heard. spepecifically on Asian American O my Facebook page and my many times forwarded email threads that I'm on. Wow. This is what I hear Yeah There's forward forward forward, RE forward forward forward. have to scroll down. But yeah Getting money out of politics is great Bless you, Hawaii and I've heard also that a lot of other states, like twelve other states are doing similar things. Um I'm super excited for that and half related, not really, only in terms of The idea of optimism. I've been recently reading abundance Is that the Ezra Kleine book? I haven't read it. I've read reviews of it, but I haven't read it. Ezra Kleine and I forget the other person, but it's a they wrote it together. Yeah. And I remember When it was first popping off It was such a Like People were talking smack about the book like it was it felt very flashpoint when it came out. Yeah. I know and look, I'm described by myself as pretty lefty. I'm just gonna say it, I' gonna say it. And even in my circles, people there were like in fighting and like a bunch of people I feel like the people on the left were the people who were the most upset. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And it's so interesting me reading the book now. I'm like, what was all that h up about? I don't understand. Yeah, I wish I could remember because I haven't I haven't read the book So I don't feel like I could say like, well, here's the argument the book makes and here's where it differs. I think part of it was about like housing stock And anyime a book You know, like I felt this way when I read sapiens by you've all Noah Harari, where it's like Now I'm going make a broad sweeping claim You know, u It's it's tough to that's a tough sure That's a tough shot to call, you know, Yeah ye, But again, I haven't, I haven't read I haven't read abbundance, so I can't speak more specifically to it. other than, yeah, I kind of remember people being pissed about it. All I'm saying is guys, you should read it just because reading is good I haven't read in literally maybe years, but like I said in the beginning of the show, I was at the beach with not much to do and I was like, you know what? I'll read a book. Now I'm going to use this to segue into Before knowing Brian had put Brian's corner in the script today I brought something for showh and tell, mainly because my dog was sitting on it I had to move her off of it. But since we're talking about Not only books, but also the beach Here's what I'm currently reading. Wow. Saweed. It's called seaweed. W wow It is Nonfiction. It is about Seaweed It's part of a series of books from Princeton University Press that I really, really love U that has like great they're like these great natural histories and then at the end of each like section They'll have these gorgeous like full page photos of specific species W with life histories and all sorts of other stuff in there. I know that. That'saeed. Yeah. Yeah, and I don't know anything about seaweed. So I was like, well, I'll buy a book on seaweed. It was on sale. I think you're like the ideal learning person. You don't know something, look you read it other than other people who just say anything they want. Yeah half of my books are like, some's like, whyy are you reading that book? Because I don't know shit about squirrels. And like D did you learn it? like? No, it was a bad book I'n finish it. I don't like it. you know, But this one this one am I am liking. I grew up near the coast. Seaweed made our local beach almost unswimmable for like most of the year 'ause you would just like go in, it was like Long Island Sounds. So like that's already a little bit weird You know, but you'd like go in and just be like all this like fucking kelps, you know, slapping on your ankles and then there was always this like brown seaweed like laying around It was all slimy But but so I grew up I grew up not loving it, but now also it's delicious now. Now I'm an adult I'm like, dude, we've been sleeping on seaweed. The spinach of the deep you know, like Yeah, so that's that's my show and tell. If anyone wants to learn about seaweed, you can get U seaweeds, a natural history of art. Plets, seeaeeds and other alga by Julie A. Phillips Fr Princeton University Press, I highly recommend signing up for their mailing list. You'll get discounts on books all the time. What's are the most interesting seaweed facts you've learned thus reading this That seaweed are represented in four of the six kingdoms of of it's like prokaryotic, ekaryotic I think there's one seaweed that's I think I think u Animals and fungi don't have any seaweed replicants, but I think there're seaweed that are like And also that seaweed, I'll see if I can pulull this diagram because it's great U But so a lot of we all know that the broad story with evolution is survival of the fittest, descent with modification Ly Marglas, who' another one of my favorite popular science writers U advance this idea of endosymbiosis the nuclei in our cells has different DNA than our nuclei And the reason that is is because at some point billions of years ago in evolution Something single celled like an amoeba, ate something that couldn't be digested. Well, so the same thing happened after seaweed happened. And so we have lineages of animals that evolved from algae. Like weird or not animals. I don't know what you call dinoflagellate. Maybe the pro karyotes, but are youkaryotes? I get them mixed up. But classic. But yeah, yeah, yeah. But the book has like all these like really great diagrams breaking that down and like certain seaweed have really interesting life cycles and stuff. And so I'm a big fan. and like this is the Without exaggeration, this is probably like the eighth or ninth book in this series I've read And they're all bangers.' they're all bangers. It's not all seaeed.' different No, no, no, they're all different bang. I read about about seaweed. Yeah I read one about bees, one about beetles, one about moths, one about octopuses. The one on viruses was not for me, but only because the pictures weren't as interesting. I thought the information was very good That's fair. But yeah like I like a good picture in my b. We do not have I feel like viruses They're so small, we can't even like actually see what. It's all like computer assisted. And again, the information is the author, Marilyn, I think Jay Rusnik of that particular book Fantastic, really great at explaining stuff, but just didn't like the pictures as much. That's not her fault. That's not her fault. You can't take a picture of a virus and make it look cool, you know? L yeah. So I'm not knocking her for that. Okay, what alsoso, you told me there's been some evo drama U this is just like a fun thing. I play I play a game called Rrivals of V Thd, which is smmash cllone um a content creator named Ludwig is He has a company that is a publisher for video games and he helped publish Rrivals of Eether And at EVo, if you guys don't know, EVo is the largest fighting game tournament in the world. It's like where the stars are made. as a push to get H the numbers up, he basically gave free admissions to anyone who wants to play rivals of Eether. And so that bumped up the numbers a lot Yeah. And the way Eo does their like who gets to make it in the final stage is purely on pop like how many people are playing the game. And so we made it to like top four or five or something So we'll be able to be streamed on finals on Saturday on the big stage, which is exciting for me. Yeah. for a lot of the other FGC, the fight game communities there are not happy Yeah. They're like, what the hell? This is like astrourfing. I'm like, Yeah, so is it like a zero sum thing? becausecause like I have played fighting games and I'm aware of evo but it's like not you know, I' not I'm not steeped into the way you are. I got too much seaweed work to do. Clearly. But you know, is it the case that it's zero sum where it's like, hey, there's only going to be like six things streamed and rivals of Eether took like I don't know the new Tek and game spot or something. It's basically that. And it wasn't Titles will like always win like street fighter tech in. they'll have their spot on Sunday, which is like the bigger day Buting some of the smaller games that we beat out. And I think the thing is Evo fighting game community in general has always had a contentious relationship with platform fighters or games like smash. Yeah. because They treat smash and Smash like games like not real fighting games. R? becausecause it's like not as combo based It is a different genre. Yeah yeah I think that's true. I think it's still a fighting game. Ultimately, you're fighting. Yeah. I mean like I've seen, I remember when the Sash first Switch came out Watching a finals match between someone playing as ROB and someone else playing his Pirana Pant? like these are two characters that I tried once each and was like never again. You know, like onlyn if I'm playing random for some reason And it was like incredible. you know, like and so it's like yeah, I think it's I think it's still a fighting game. but yeah, I get why it doesn't feel the same as like a street fighter or Teken or Tokon or you know, one of those And I get I get that some of you guys are upset All I can say is get your own millionaire to back it up. Yeah, get your ownwig. Get your own lwig . That's very funny. There was one other thing I wanted to in Bird Corner I wanted to bring up wasasn't Mass Effect Andromeda Oh, u so just in like other like, you know, when I'm when I'm not in here. I am just diving on science crap constantly. Like it's just that's my happy place is like reading a book about the sea orr like, you know, reading a long article on something like that And I recently, I think it was on the read it U ask physics community. Someone was asking like, well, what's at the center of a black hole, which then eventually led to as many U Reddit combos in that community do led me to the PBS spaceime YouTube page, which I don't know if you're familiar with, but It's Great. It's it's so good. It's so well done. Yeah. But they posted a video about what's at the interior of a black hole. And the true answer is no one knows. We literally cannot find out But There's a school of thought now that is taking sort of two I'm going to summarize this and probably get it wrong. So Please go look up the thing about Plank stars on PBS space Pank I want to hear about Um I But so they're thinking at the center of the black holes what the host of PBS sppaceetime something o doubed. I'm blanking on his first name. Thank Richard. calls a shard of frozen Big Bang matter The idea being that and this is known this is as black holes age, they evaporate, which is something called hawking radiation Because at the edge of a black hole, we're like, hey, you cross this line Nothing's getting back, not light, not anything Quantum fluctuations in the vacuum of the universe will spawn two particles to keep with mass parity. One will go this way, and the other will go into the black hole and that causes a little bit of evacuation Um Over time as that happens, the black hole gets smaller and smaller and smaller until It entraps an area of space that can't get any smaller because it exists at the plank length, which according to quantum mechanics, quantum is just this. Yeah, yeah the smallest it can be, right? Like so You know, the whole thing with quantum mechanics was like, well, we think nature happens in discrete chunks. Those are quanta, the mechanics of how those function are quantum mechanics Um And they're thinking that like The event horizon of the black hole shrinks to a plank length And then what's left inside is so impossibly dense. It's basically a big bang that is bounded from the rest of the universe by the fact that I' is frozen because it's so dense that we can't ever see it happen Yeah. And there's I believe it's Lee Smoolen, I think who had the black hole evolution theory of the universe, which is like The bl the universe is fine tuned not for life, but to create black holes And and like so it'll eventually become like all black holes. But if that's the case, then like it all becomes these little like tiny little white hole shards Yeah, which I thought was just like fucking raad. Like I I love that. So theory is E black hole creates their own big bang inside well, I guess we don't know, I think we don't know. but yeah in time What will happen is as the black hole evaporates, what's left will be this little bit. So like you know like you spill some water orr like spill soda is a better example. Okay. All the liquid evaporates, you're left with just like that little sticky tacky bit Everything from the black hole evaporates, but the sticky tacky bit is a frozen shard of Big Bang called a Plankck star Okay Yeah, a plague star. Yeah. fucking rad, right? Interesting. So yeah, I don't know, I don't know if that's the case. Part of the issue is that our math breaks down at the center of black holes and everything goes to infinity. Yeah. I read an article in Quantum magazine recently by a mathat about a mathematician who argues that there is no such thing as infinity which would solve certain problems like this in mathematics. I am nowhere near qualified to either recap that article or like, you know, weigh in on how. Why they're watching this show so you can recap that article. Yeah. So you understand quuantum Physics. I think if we could understand, it wouldn't be worth understanding.ro Brocoliing Broadly speaking. But but yeah, I mean, you know, I've had this Fucking Schrodinger's cat tattoo for, you know, a decade plus at this point. So, you know, I'm just say my first barono into these into these choppy waters. Oh yeah. Okay, we've been going for a little bit here. We've probably got to f up the studio. Is there anything else we need to get to before we sign off for the day I don't think so. Okay other than thanks for listening to us, ye. Thanks for listening. Thanks for watching everybody.
