SCOTUS Defies Donald Trump! — Jun 29, 2026 — starts at 0:00
Here we go. Here we go. Good evening everybody. Elections have consequences . And some of those consequences came to fruition today because we had some major decisions by the Supreme Court. So good evening . Welcome everyone. Make sure you hit the like and the thumbs up. It does affect the algorithm more people become aware of our conversation in our channel. So I am so glad that you are here. Let us know where you are streaming from . We have some experts here who are going to talk to us about these decisions that are going to affect your life. Okay ? So the information that you're going to get today is going to be important to you moving forward , not only with your daily lives but also how you decide who you're going to vote for come November and then November of twenty twenty eight. Okay ? So four court decisions today, hit the like and the thumbs up again it affects the algorithm. All of these four court decisions matter. Some of them should scare you . Some of them you should feel comfortable about because I think it was a mixed bag. We will talk to Monique Presley in just moments and she'll discuss that with us. For ninety one years though, there has been a wall between the president and roughly two dozen agencies that Congress created to be independent, talking about the FTC, Federal Trade Commission, the EEOC, equal employment opportunities commission and the NLB, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the nuclear Regulatory Commission. These agencies regulate almost every facet of American life. That's why it's important for you. Your workplace, your credit , your products, the planes you fly on, the nuclear plants in your in your backyard , Congress created them to be independent from presidential politics so that when the president does change the experts running these agencies , they do not change with him . Okay when the president changes, I should say the folks who are running these agencies do not change with him. So that career scientists and economists I should say and lawyers can do their jobs based on facts and evidence and the law not based on who the president wants them to be loyal to, not based on ideology, politics or any of that. That wall , today the Supreme Court busted it down. That wall is gone. The Supreme Court ruled six to three today that Donald Trump had the right to fire the FTC commissioner Rebecca Slaughter without cause. That's a case that goes back. Monique is going to explain it to you. Without any reason at all, he can fire her simply because her continued service was inconsistent with his administration's priorities. That is the exact language they used inconsistent with his priorities. So they're expanding presidential powers by doing this. She was not corrupt misslaughter. She was not incompetent. She was not neglecting her duties . She just was not loyal enough to Donald Trump. And the Supreme Court said that is enough, as you can imagine , the three liberal justices said this is some crazy shit. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote that the president may remove his subordinates at will, at will. Justice Gorsuch wrote a concurring opinion and said the independent agencies are not so independent after all. And justice Sonia Sotomayora, who has now read two dissents from the bench in one week , two in a matter of a week, a matter of seven days, two, which almost never happens , read another one today, said the court gives the president a power unknown to even the English crown against which the founders revolted . Unknown even to the English crown cr,own. We're talking about the king here. Now there were some other things that were in not in favor of the president. And we'll discuss those. Let me bring in now Manique Cresley, attorney, legal mind, friend of the show, personal friend. Monique, was it a mixed bag or because I thought the decision about Lisa Cook, the former Fed, she's not the Fed chair, but she's a governor, all right, a Fed governor . So he said he could not fire her at will . And then there were other things about mail and ballots, which surprise me that he is so against mail and ballots because he mails in his own ballot to Florida every time he has to vote . So what happened today ? I think it was a better than average bag . When you weigh the things that are important, the ones that matter the most to the most people , obviously giving more power for these just no matter whether they did something wrong or not type firings , that's on the negative side of what the court came back with today And I could see how sometimes it seems like the court is saying, okay , we're about to sting over here . So where we can and where we have wiggle room, let's go ahead and give him something over here. I mean baby needs a blanket is kind of the way that things are going right now. And so that's going to end up going back to a lower court and he is going to be able to work his will with some of these federal appointees in these used to be more independent agencies than they are now. But that is juxtaposed with the court saying no with the Federal Reserve Board, you cannot just because you want to, just because of an accusation. Absent any findings of fact , just remove a governor in this instance , obviously , black woman , governor Dr. Lisa Cook. They said, You can't just fire her because you want to because there's some allegation malfeasance out there, these actually have to be proven. She gets due process . This is going to have to go through the system. She's going to have to be allowed to respond . So it's going to go back and work its way through the courts. It will go back to the circuit court to figure out whether there was any justification for the firing. So I just hats off to Abby Loland Company, Job Well done in defending this case and ensuring that there is a check on presidential power in this instance. . Let me ask you full transparency at Abby Lowell is my attorney's fault. Journalists should be transparent. Now let, me say when you said giving him something, like giving him a bone, I thought of that too. It was like, you know, with because they couldn't rule with the Lisa Cook thing, it's just there was no law, I guess, precedent for that. So they had to give him the other thing with the at will employees. Is that what you're saying about that? Because I felt like it looked like they're handing him something 'cause they knew they couldn't give him the big thing. Right. I mean, an at will employees can be fired that but the difference has been that you used to not be able to do that in these pseudo independent or independent agencies. The president couldn't just come from on high. That's why Justice Sotomayor's opinion says what it says. It's more power than a king. You know, you don't even have immediate supervisors saying that there is an issue or wanting to terminate them as employees . And I hate to think of our Supreme Court as taking that kind of balancing test. Well, we're not going to give him this. So let's give him that. I also hate the way these decisions are rolling out because I see the people in the comments. I have no idea what they're going to do about birthright citizenship. I'm happy to come and talk to you about it tomorrow when we know. Oh, you will be here, young lady . They're saying it's gonna be tomorrow and we are all like, okay, they just did the right thing on mail and ballot. Sos what does this mean ? What is this saying? They did a terrible wrong thing on immigration. It's just I don't know, Don. I'm rambling. What's your next question? No, I know how you feel , Monique, because I was reading this all of these decisions today I want to bring in our DC correspondent because he's been doing this, Daniel Grinds to help us out here. Daniel, you have been studying these things. So good evening to you. So there are four today that were decided, but as Monique said, the big one, the one that people are concerned about, they were concerned about the least cooked thing. That was a huge thing. Maybe I'm balance a huge thing. As Monique said, the ones that mean the most to the most people , I think fairly so were decided in the people's favor and not in Donald Trump's favor . But the ones to the tomorrow, that birthright citizenship is the one that everybody is waiting on. And you said that the protocol is that they're not going to go away, right? Because they're going on vacation. They have to decide these things and announce them tomorrow. Yeah. Chief Justice John Roberts said that tomorrow is going to be the final decision day, which means we're going to hear the big cases. I mean, that's one of the beautiful things about the Supreme Court is we know at least that it's coming. We don't know obviously what they're going to decide it's going to be a big day Dawn. I mean ten AM we're going to get either. Probably they're going to start with there is a case about a West Virginia girl Monika probably speak more to the intricacies of the case, but it's going to be a case about transgender rights and it comes on the last day of Pride Month, but it's going to be can this transgender young girl participate in her school sports? It's going to have implications for transgender youth and just transgender people in public education settings more broadly. So that's going to be a big case. And then obviously the fourteenth amendment can they overturn birth right citizenship? President Trump, I don't know, Andy if you have this one, but he was again lying today saying the U. S. is the only country in the world that does birthright citizenship. That's just not true. There are a handful of countries that do it. So he continues to lie about that. He lies about the mail and ballot saying that we're the only one that does that. That's also not true. So he did say that he was going to accept the decision , which how else? I mean, I guess he could storm the Suprem e Court. So I don't know how what else he can do. He's going to have to accept the decision, but he did say that today from the Oval Office, Don. This is what he said about mail in ballots. Here it is What do you make the Supreme Court ruling today in regards to the mail in ballots? And what comes next for the SAVE Act after today's ruling? Well, because of the mail in ballot ruling, which was a little bit surprising, gives people more time to vote illegally, let's say . But the SAVE Act is even more important and that's the right to you have to be a citizen of our country. Okay, you have to show you a citizen of our country called citizenship . Voter ID by photo, photo voter ID , and no mail in ballots unless you're in the military disabled , you're ill, or you're away or even on a vacation. We're being very open about it. It's pretty easy . And we'll have honest elections. But the ruling, which a lot of people were waiting for, that was a ruling that was I think it was very detrimental to honest elections , but it is what it is. Basically they're keeping it a little bit the way it is now. They may have a little bit of a restriction on based on the word abouting fir the parliamentarian. And then you have the very important one, the slaughter case, which we'll talk about if you ask that question, but okay, Moni, he just I saw you shaking your head. Why does this man? man This just li es through his teeth over and over and over again, he can't help himself. And again, let's just himself. Let's just be very clear about this. He is not in the military he mails in his ballot . He should not have an exception or any exemption even as president of the United States for mail in ballot. It's okay for him, but it's not okay for anyone else. And it does not be does not increase the incidence or likeness or liveliness of voter fraud. It's just not true . Of which there is no evidence. And that's why I was shaking my head because this big lie he just contin ues to keep telling it . And by saying that giving people more time for their mail in ballots to be counted, that the court ruled that yes, they can be turned in up to election day and then you get the grace period after that that stays in place. He says more time to vote illegally . The only time the vote is legal is when he wins . Any other time the vote is illegal and it is not based in fact and it is so damaging and dangerous because there are people who only get their news from places that spout these lies as if they are true without any foundation whatsoever. And then it's also just it's dangerous and degrading to our country. He's an embarrassment in so many different ways, but to me this is one of the most egregious because our ability to have free and fair elections and to put in office the person of our choosing at the ballot box is one of the fundamentals of this country. It is one of those we fought blood d,ied to have it , and we now are again fighting for it. And he doesn't mind tearing all of that up from the root to suit his own selfish purposes . Well, and if I can just jump in here, y'all know why he did it. He is publicly posting on truth social, we need to pass the Save America Act, blow up the filibuster. And all that is a voter disenfranchisement act. It's going to require a voter ID to register to vote. You're going to have to have a passport, a hard ID. That's going to mean millions of people are going to be left out in the cold, not able to vote. And that is exactly what this president wants. He wants that voter disenfranchisement bill to pass. And you know who else wants it to pass? And again, Andy, if you have this , play it because it's powerful. We had this in the newsletter. Speaker Johnson was over the weekend was talking to the face, I think it was on Friday, the f aith coalition, a bunch of donors to the Republican Party. And he said, listen , all you have to do is get out there and vote and we got to make sure we pass this save America Act because I am going to protect you . And Democrats are going to get into office and they're going to actually do what Congress is supposed to do, which is oversight of the executive branch. And he said, Ooh, don't do that. I will be there to protect you. Andy, if you have it, can you play that? Because I think that is what Republicans they're saying the quiet part out loud dog . Yeah, I'm not sure if Andy has that. Andy, do you have that sound by? No, I'll find it from earlier. But what just going on what Daniel said, it also holds the two things fold into one. Like the reason Speaker Johnson wants this, the reason Trump wants this is not just in order to generally they are thinking about the midter ms. And that is why I don't talk to anybody about anything right now without mentioning registering to vote, being prepared to vote, having a voter plan, getting voters out because they know the only way to hold on to power is to keep as many people from possible as voting in November. Otherwise they are toast, they are out of here. And the reason that matters is not just to check on the president's power, but for these Supreme Court cases , where they're sending things back, where they're refusing to take the bigger issue and they're saying it's up to Congress whether we have a right to autonomy to our body, it's up to Congress in order to put the right legislation in place for voting rights or for George Floyd justice and policing. They're saying Congress, Congress, Congress, not this Congress that we have . And so the only way we will get those stronger measures that we need for the things that the court is not willing to do with its branch of government is by getting in members in the Senate and then the House who are willing to do their job, pass laws, stricter laws, clearer laws so that it can't get to the Supreme Court and then claim that Congress was all of a sudden unclear after they've decided four cases in a row where Congress was crystal clear . And now on the fifth case , they're like, well , we're unsure of the intent of it's ridiculous, the gymnastics, the bending over backward in order to not do their jobs and to acquiesce to this man. Yeah, let's this is the one for Mike Johnson that you mentioned, here it is. If we were to we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats , y'all impeachment is not even the big concern. They will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body and then they'll go after the president's family, the cabinet, his donors and friends. Half of you in this room will be targeted. I run the protection program. I'll take care of you, okay? We're going to win the material. Okay . All right. There it is . I'm surprised is that it all live. I mean, aren't they supposed to , but aren't they isn't that their job is to do I don't know if it's to investigate people, but Donald Trump is investigating everyone. could he is he talking about? Donald Trump is investigating everyone. And that's why he said not just Trump and his family in case they don't care anymore them right now, but he said you too , that is intimidation , that is threat , that is throwing everyone's personal emotional stake into something that is not supposed to be individual personal, emotional. They are there to do a job for the American people . And he's saying, Oh, no, if we win, I'll protect you, you personally . If we lose, you're gonna be investigated. And I mean, unless you've been around there committing crimes, that's false . And Don , as you said, this is exactly what Congress is supposed to do. When the president wastes sixteen plus million dollars of the American public's taxpayer funds to clean up the national the reflecting pool and it doesn't work. And then he gives a no bid contract offer to one of his friends, Congress is supposed to step in and say, wait, wait, wait a minute. We're going to investigate this. Something is fishy. Or where the president completely blows up the White House to build a ballroom and it's supposed to be not taxpayer funded. It's supposed to be all private donors, whether it ends up being taxpayer funded, Congress is supposed to st ep in and say, wait a minute, that's not okay. If the president unilaterally tries to go to war with Iran, Congress is supposed to step in and say, wait a minute, not okay. That is what Congress's job. We all learned this in the fifth grade , the system of checks and balances. And Speaker Johnson just stood up there at that podium and said, Oh no, Congress actually wants to do its job. I want to make sure we don't continue to do our job. Yeah If you can explain because one of the viewers put something in the comments that I think is really important where he said the Save Act is really about the president having control over the voter rolls. And it's also about disenfranchising women who may their maiden name may be different than their married name on their identifications, people who don't have access to not everyone has a passport and certain documents, but people who don't have access to those will restrict them from voting. In America, I thought the process was to open up the open up the polls and the possibility the access to the voting box rather than restricting the access for people to be able to vote. And that seems like what Republicans Republicans are trying to do with the SAVE Act . Right, because the only way that they keep power is if they have less people voting. They do not trust the American people . They don't trust the voting population make the right decision . They only trust their own power and have to ensure it through as the person who's watching said, access to voting roles. They've been trying state by state to get states to cooperate and turn over voting rolls saying it's necessary for Ice or for public safety eff theyort're making the of fall these reas ons. They're trying to present issues where in different states, they want to federalize it where you have to present this documentation, unified documentation, some of which we know disproportionately affects people of color and disproportionately affects those who are poor because getting a passport is expensive . Only a small percentage actually of the population in the United States has one and sometimes people in larger areas go with out having drivers' licenses, don't need them in order to do their work, get back and forth. And so these are all things that are a tax. This is a way to keep people from being able to vote. My son has only been voting for a year now. And when we were getting ready to go vote in the primary last week in Maryland, we voted early because we knew we would be on travel. He's like, I made sure I had the preamble memorized in case they tried to do something funny . The kids know, Don , they know that we are seconds away from a jellybean counting experience . That is exactly where we are, and I laughed him off, but it is true and for our young people to be in this experience that our grandparents fought to get us out of is shameful. It's shameful. I love that your son remembered it. And the only reason I don't remember it, I don't think I remember it from school. I think I remember it from schoolhouse rock We the people in order to form a perfect union. Established justice in sure domestic. Now rem Iember from school. It's sure domestic tranquility . Now I'm going to say that again dog because I don't remember that being at school . Provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity . Do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America, right? That's it. Yeah . So Don. Schoolhouse Rock graduate. School house rack and I'm just a bill. But yeah, yeah, I think that was a school house rock. I remember it was the song We the people in order to form a more perfect union. And that was what your son remembered and they were showing the tea party and yes. That's it. Anybody who hasn't watched the full School House Rock series, now is your time because we need everybody to have as much information as possible to understand civics and how a bill gets to be a law if it does get to do that and how our basic and the basics of our government , our government works. We're going to talk about transgender students and also more about birthright citizenships which are two biggies that are coming tomorrow, but first a word from our sponsors. The Don Lemon show is brought to you by the Freedom fromigion Rel Foundation. As America approaches its two hundred fiftieth anniversary, here is something that is worth remembering . Freedom in this country includes the right to believe, the right to change your beliefs and the right not to believe at all. Those freedoms only work when government stays neutral. The founders rejected monarchy and divine rule and wrote a constitution with no state religion, no religious test, and a government accountable to the people , that framework protects all of us. Today, we're seeing renewed debates about the role of religion in our schools, our courts, and our public life. That's why organizations like the Freedom From Religion Foundation continue doing this work. They're helping defend the First Amendment because it protects everybody's freedom of conscience. As we move toward America's two hundred fiftieth anniversary, it is worth asking what kind of country we want to leave behind. Visit FRF. Here we go, roll it Andy . We in order to form a more perfect union , establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility provide for the common defense , promote the general to spare of and secure the blessings of liberty , do ourselves and our posterity do ordain and to ab estlish this constitution for the United States of America in seventeen eighty seven. There you go. So okay, here's the thing. I don't remember that one dog . Well, you guys 'cause you're twelve years old. You're young But also Monique, I mean, let's just talk about it. We need more of that because little things caught on. And when you think seventeen eighty seven, seventeen eighty six, like all of it, there was, you know, how a bill becomes a law. I'm just a bill. Yes, I'm only a bill until they vote for me on Capitol Hill until whatever. And then that was how we learned. I mean, that helped me . So we need more civics. We need more people who understand the basics of government. Actually , someone should make Donald Trump sit down and listen or watch the entire schoolhouse rock from start to finish. He would fall asleep, but the family The thing is we need it because even while people are frustrated , it would help if they knew which branch of government is actually responsible for solving the thing about which they're frustrated. Because lots of times people are just like, They need to do something, they need to do something . And they'll want Congress to do something Congress can't do. They'll be trying to get the executive branch to do something that's just supposed to be in the Supreme Court or supposed to be in the legislature and schoolhouse rock and basic civics is what can help us at least to have a better understanding so that we can target our frustration and target our advocacy and our activism in the right direction. And it's it definitely it's not advanced citizenship. That should be the basics . Okay, so let's talk about the so we talked about the rulings today . There are there four more to come, which include birth right citizenship and transgender athletes. Am I correct? Daniel, is that right? Yes, that's right. Those are the two big two big ones that are coming tomorrow . The West Virginia case and the birthright citizens citizenship case or yeah. And I think there's a negative related to transgender rights, but I don't see the name of it. It's a consolidated case. They're consolidated case. That's right . So there are two cases that are related to title II and the transgender case. And basically , the one that is kind of leading it is a West Virginia young transgender girl from West Virginia, and she's suming to be able to participate in school sports, right? Listen, we all graduated from high school. We were all there when students were on the swim team, on the hockey team, whatever. They are great for building bonds with your classmates , you are traveling together. It's a great extracurricular to put on that resume for college. And the Supreme Court could strip that away from every transgender youth across this country. And let me just say this Don . There are two things. One, the numbers here, I don't have them, but they are overwhelmingly small. There is there's not that many transgender youth trying to participate sports. I will say I've got friends. Listen, I'm a gay man. I've got friends and I'm sure you do too, Don , who when we're talking about adults and this whole separation of adults and in sports. They're not any remote MAGA. And even they say, you know what ? There are biological differences between males and females and if you like a Caitlin Jinner transitioned later in life then maybe , you know, maybe there's there should be a conversation about adults and where people can align. Now again, I'm very progressive so I'm going to say what the people play where they want to play and compete with whom they're going to compete against. But I'm open to that argument of people who say, listen, I'm not conservative and I don't hate trans people, but when you're an adult , that's one thing. But when you're talking about a child , you're going to strip this away from a child , it's just wild done . And I think what they're determining is whether it violates Title II and whether it violates a woman's access to sport, to intercollegiate sport and they're going to have to come up with an answer for that. And I do acknowledge it on your show before, Don, that there are complications and there are ways to see the concerns in terms of fair competition in sports that people can raise those concerns . But there are ways to figure that out that are not violative constitutional rights of people, that are not denying someone's status as a woman or as a man and when transgender means woman some people aren't willing to accept that . And so I think you have to figure out what the law says about someone's gender, someone's sex, and then from there figure out what rights they have. And then once you figure out what you can't deny, then you have to figure out whether it's by weight class, whether it's by strength, whether it's by size, whatever it is, there are other ways to make things fair or fairer and it's it can't be though that this is the way that it's done where we again go way back from progress we supposedly made for as Daniel said a small like microsc opic percentile of people in the United States . Yeah . Tomorrow is the final day of this term. There are two cases still pending. As we said, you just mentioned one of them. The other one is birthright citizenship , Trump versus Barbara, right? The fourteenth Amendment . The Constitutional Guarantee that every child born on American soil is an American citizen, a guarantee that has been the law since eighteen sixty eight , I believe, since the amendment was passed specifically to ensure free black people and their children could never be stripped of their citizenship. Again, it's always about the black people, guys. Trump's executive order has been bl ocked by multiple federal courts and has never taken effect. The court appeared to likely during oral arguments decide against Trump. That's what folks are saying, but this is the same time the cour thatt has ruled six to three against Haitians and Syrians last week. I mean, this just happened and people were shocked and six to three to give Trump the power to fire independent agency heads just today . So I would say Mon,ique, do not assume anything as it relates to this because as we know, no tradition, no norm has been a roadblock for this administration in this court . Right. And the Constitution isn't a thing . So even where it's been clear and we've been functioning in a particular way for decade after decade after decade in this country, this court willing to call itself a liar because that's what they do when they've been clear about something in prior cases and then they come back and look at it again as if it's a case of first impression when it's not. So I don't know what they're going to do tomorrow, but I know if they do the wrong thing, the only way we survive it is if we put the right people in Congress to fix it. So I'm embracing one way or the other. I think today was encouraging. They did stand up against the regime in some major ways. Whatever is going to happen tomorrow, we're in a long night of wait and see. Well, and my understanding is that Trump's legal team has prepared him for a loss here and that overturning the fourteenth amendment would be unprecedented . So y'all know I, tend to view the world with some flowery rosy glasses, a little more optimistic. So I'm optimistic the court. It may be five to four, which would sadden me. I think this should be a clear nine nine oh case , but I think the court is going to do the right thing tomorrow and side with legal precedent. But you know what, you know, I do want to say this Don. Trump knows the point that you made. That's every time that he's railed against a birthright citizenship, he brings up this was for slaves. Why aren't we still doing this? This was for the children of slaves. We shouldn't still be doing this in twenty twenty six. And it's just another way for this president to continue to hurt marginalized people, people who are just coming to the United States, who are seeking a better life . And it happens there's a lot of different examples of this. It's not just people coming here and having their children on American soil because they want to have a better life. It's people here who just happened to, oh my goodness, my child here, born here in America. You know, it's just wild to me that this has been a legal standard for decades and it could all be turned away tomorrow. I don't think it's going to happen, but it could. Take us through tomorrow, Daniel. What do we look for? What's going to happen? Well, I mean, again, I think the decision is going to come down right at ten AM. We're going to be live on air. So Monique sounds like you're going to be joining us tomorrow . So we can get these live and get the live reaction . So and they are going to make these decisions done and then they're going to high tail it on out of town to start their summer vacation. So the decisions will drop if everyone loves, I check out the Scotus blog. It's a great source for someone who unlike Monique, I don't have a great legal mind. So it breaks it down for those of us who don't have that great legal mind. But we're going to expect that probably the transgender case and as Monique noted, there are two cases that they have put together, but it's all about Title II and whether that is violating girls' rights. And then we can expect the birthright citizenship. Probably all by ten thirty will have these decisions. , what? Monique, what? What was that phase? No, I mean that's exactly right. We'll know , we'll know tomorrow. Oh, don't go. Go ahead, Money. No, go, go, what'd you want to ask? So a lot of people, Don will read the tea leaves based on how the oral arguments went. And so when we're talking about the transgender case, a lot of people do expect the Supreme Court to rule against trans youth and the Idaho law and a lot of the laws that ban transgender youth participation in sports, we expect the court to ban that. But based on the oral arguments, they expect the court to uphold birthright citizenship. But again, I'm at the great legal mind. We've got one. So Nik, what do you think? No, just based on your argument about legal what happened at oral argum ent, that is the thinking right now . And again, another mixed bag, that's sad. But based on the way the oral arguments went, the questions that the court put before the lawyers, it looks like birthright citizenship should be safe tomorrow and it does look like there's a real issue with the transgender case. But again, it's something that a law can fix if the law is brok en, lock and fix it . But that would put a lot of people in citizenship limbo like and sort of never like what will they do? What will they decide for people who I guess are they going to be grandfathered in ? Like how will that work if they if they against it? It would have to be forward thinking would have to be, but I can't conceive of it. So the Ted Cruz better pack his bags and go . Wait, wait, isn't it isn't that does that provide an issue? I guess it doesn't for Melania Trump because she was what is it ? What do you call a chain migration that was part of it? She was part of chain migration and whatever. Well, and now she might benefit from being married to Trump, which I guess Ted Cruz would as well, but Monique, I've been wanted to ask you about this. I just want to play this moment because I know that you and I have discussed this and this person's history , Andy rolled this from one Megan . And look, this has been going on for over a dozen years. Go home , get out . We know our country's better than yours. That's because we filled it with our work ethic and our culture and our values . You being here only dilutes it for us, those who built it and live it. And half of you people more than half of you won't assimilate . We don't want you. We don't care if you're offended. Get out , go home. Go back to fucking Haiti. Sorry . I'm just, I'm thinking about our friends in Ohio who've been dealing with these TPS Haitians for years now who are drunk driving all over their towns and killing people. This is the whole cats and dogs thing. They don't want to live like Americans live . And this was supposed to be a t emporary it was supposed to be temporary help and it's turned into another backdorway of allowing someone permanent residency here and they take advantage of all of our public services and our Monique She's terrible I saw what you said about it. I saw it on Instagram and listen, I mean people talk long enough until they reveal exactly who they are. Out of the mouth the heart speaks, there's a lot of hatred in her heart and she is bleeding racism . And obviously she's very wrong on historical facts, but that doesn't surprise me either. I don't know who built what in the country she thinks she lives in or what culture she's talking about, but she's she's got all of that so very wrong as Angela has this shirt that she's always wearing and I think there's a hat too . You know, we built this motor for free ness. That's obviously the truth of the matter . And that woman is lost dark, hateful moments Did you have any reaction to that this weekend as you I don't know if you saw it because I know you were celebrating pride . Oh yeah, Dawn. I was too busy enjoying my self with all my gay friends, the drag queens, we were fan floppin'. Listen . So I didn't have time for Megan's evilness and her evil attitude, but I got chills when I just listened to that because you could feel the hatred in the vitriol. And let me just tell you, as a person who's been a reporter now for over a decade and I've talked to Trump voters in Trump one point zero versus Trump two point zero , it is I don't even know I don't even know what the right word would be. I'm going to say sad but that doesn't even feel powerful enough because when I talk to people in Trump one point zero, they would come out so fast to condemn words like that . Trump one point zero voters were they did not want to be perceived as racist or as evil or vile. They said listen we're voting for this man because he's a quote unquote great business man. We look we watch the apprentice. You fast forward to twenty twenty six. And I have not heard and this has been out as you said, Don since this weekend, I have not heard or seen anybody in the Republican Party come out and condemn Meghan's comments. And I know that she's an not elected official , but she's got a powerful platform. And if I was a conservative commentator, that's the first thing I would have done the moment that she did it. I would have got on there and said that's not okay. That in our party, we accept everybody. Like, I just don't get why we haven't even seen that. That's unacceptable in twenty twenty six. You can't because in their party, they don't accept any everybody, Daniel. That's why we're in the place that we're in right now. That's why we have the Supreme Court that we have right now. I know you said that that Trump one point zero, I don't think Trump one point zero even care. I think Trump one point zero was they didn't they had to overlook so much racism and bigotry if they claim not to be it. They had to overlook it, which I think is worse than them actually being it . So if I'm not a if look, if I'm not a Yachtsi, as they say , but I support the people who are . And because it's good for me , I believe economically , then I think that I'm worse than the people who actually believe in it, because I actually can associate and I might have empathy and compassion for the people that they're oppressing, but yet and still I'm voting for their oppressor. So I don't know if those people actually really do believe that they are not racist. I think that they are that maybe they're just deluding themselves, but that's just me . And I mean, listen, you grew up new, you grew up in New Orleans. So I grew up from a place called Winchester, Virginia. And it is about an hour and a half north of DC . My parents in our little cul de sac . I remember this vividly even though I was ten had a Gor sign up front of our house. All of our neighbors had bush signs in two thousand, and we all remember how contentious the two thousand election was. But I just think back to, you know, my childhood and how my parents were going to our neighbors houses for election night, even as one as contentious as two thousand election, and they stayed friends with all their conservative friends even after that election , Don. And George Bush ran on compassionate conservatism way back in two thousand . So I just think about that in the childhood I had and then I fast forward to again twenty sixteen, I maybe I'm giving the b themenef it of the doubt, but I'd like to believe that these people aren't racist at least they weren't racist , but I don't think there's any benefit of the doubt left . I don't know about that, Daniel I think that no, no, I think that they're racist. I do. I think that there's the bulk. There's a huge chunk of Maga that is racist if not most of Maga is racist. And again, if they are not, then they certainly overlooked a lot of racism and bigotry and homophobia and transphobia and sexism and all and grifting and just all the things in order to to support Donald Trump . So that doesn't for me, that doesn't let them off the hook. And just not knowing that you're a bigot is not enough. Monique, how do you feel about that? Right. I think that it's their wor se things than being racist . I think because racism is a power structure , and a lot of these people in Maga World don't have any power. They're mostly just haters. They're prejudiced. They have a thought process that it's no matter how bad off they are, that they're better off than the black man down the road . But that doesn't mean that they control anything that happens . Racists who are in power like Donald Trump are dangerous, but it's really dangerous to me, as Don Just said, the people who are willing to stand down all of their values , who are who don't believe that they are racist who don't believe that white people are superior to black people or brown people, who don't believe that that should be the way that this country runs itself or that voting shouldn't be equal. They say that they don't believe all of those things, but they're willing to just put it all to the side and vote for this man once or twice or three times for their wallet didn't work out for them, but they voted for their wallet, for their businesses , for their own selfish interests, and to maintain power because it's okay for black folks to have all the rights in the world until we exercise them. But when we start using them to change the way that things are done in this country, then it turns into a big problem. It's like, I'll let you have everything until you try to get my money, my businesses. I mean, that is how doctor King ended up being killed, being assassinated. It wasn't until he started talking about economic freedom that they would like get rid of him now. And that is what we are dealing with here. We are dealing with an economic battle and the poor people who are voting against their own interests are the least of it. The people who are the most dangerous are the people who are voting their exact interests and don't care who it hurts . Those are my thoughts . Daniel, you're outnumbered . Why don't we just say one last thing to try to get you on my side because Monique, that is the point I was going to make. I think it's capitalism. I think these people are voting in their own self interest so they're willing to, even if they themselves don't identify as a racist, they just go, listen, I get that he's a little bit racist, terrible, whatever, but like, I'm going to get a tax cut. So that's capitalism. I think that's how I think that's their mindset. I'm not excusing it. That's not okay. But I don't know if I can then fully say everybody in the MAGA movement is racist. Listen, it's filled with a lot of hatred, a lot of vitriol. We just saw racist Megan Kelly right there. So I'm not going to sit here and say and be naive that the MAGA movement does not have a whole lot, way too much racism in it. But I don't know if one hundred percent of Trump voters r areacist . I never said one hundred percent. I said the bulk of them, but I do think that look, not maybe not all of them are racist, but all the racists voted for Donald Trump. To be sure That one' gsone.
