We are back with another episode of the Gay tenennis podcast. I'm Tony And I just wrapped up day nine at Wimbledon I have a really fun conversation with David Caine, who I finally got to meet in person at Wimbledon this week So that will be coming up, But before we do, I just kind of wanted to give a few updates First of all, I just have to say, I am so grateful. I had just like such a moment today. I am so grateful and it's so amazing that I'm here covering Wimbledon Hospitality in the organization. is literally unmatched. Like I have been to many slams, I've been to many tournaments and nothing is like Wimbled in. I keep saying how how well run it is. It's not as packed. I feel like I say this every episode. It's not as packed as you would think on the grounds. It's so organized, getting in and out even for fans of courts When you're at the US Open, you know, sometimes on like the outer courts, there will be people just literally sitting in the staircases you know, the volunteers are just letting in crowds of people without really keeping track. They really keep things like they have their shit together here, which is I really appreciate Actually a representative from Wimbledon came up to me today at my little Little workstation And she just swung by and she was just like, Hey, I wna make sure you're comfortable. She told me that she listened to my Wimbledon episodes and said I was a breath of fresh air. And she actually had a chuckle at the term Wimbledon gay, which if you remember, I'm trying to be a Wimbledon gay, I'm more of an ATP two hundred fifty gay If that's not allys shhip, I don't know what is I want to point out that I actually did like legitimately too much work today putting together a substack article about the Penko Siegeman drama from last night So If you have not suubbscribed, go to any of our social media The sub sack link is there. suubbscribe to the sububSstack. It's free, but you can also read the article. I break down all of the drama, all the different angles that I found on Twitter and it's just hilarious. I mean I even get into if you may remember there is a video of Laura Sieabin getting sprayed with water past Wimbledon the sprinkler system accidentally went off and sprayed her and she went fleeing. It's one of the funniest videos on the internet. So anyways, I even get into that Go check out the substack One thing I forgot to mention with my conversation with David, I did not give my gayest moment of the day, which I want to point out there was a gay cheering for Coco Gf Come on, Coco. comeome on, Coco And I just want to give that gay a shout because you made my life. it was so fun sitting near you. And I truly think you helped Coco get that serve together, get that game together. my God. I I was really thinking Coco was going to lose in straight sets when I was there. I watched that live And the way she turns it around, I get into it a little bit with David, but Such a fighter, but really it was her serve turned it around. She was so aggressive on her service games. I was going to ask her about that imp press, but I didn't get called on Okay, so maybe Wimbled in, there's some ally ship, but not totally because I didn't get called on in Cococo's press conference today, but that is quite all right And I will say today was also the Legends men's doubles. So when I talk about tennis trade matches, I talk about that sometimes I will have to say like I saw Robert Feru playing doubles today. Okay. So if that's not a tennis trade match, I don't know what is. He is still wearing the same white shorts he was wearing back when he played in one Wimbledon Fonini was here. I mean, the Legends Doubles was giving tennis trade All around But I've mentioned that a little bit with David Cain. anyyways I'm going to pass it off to my conversation with David. I hope y'all enjoy and I will be checking in with with you from Wimbledon from the rest of the way. Follow us on Twitter, follow us on Instagram, at the gay tenennis pod, and I will talk to y'all soon Enjoy this conversation with David Hello everybody. It is Tony. I am reporting live next to courourt fifteen, which the net is down. It's Chrisp. The court looks good and I am sitting here with my friend and. co host occasionally, I don't know how many times you've been on now. Misor David Cane, How are you, David? It's our first time potting in person and the sexual tension is really just explosive. So the net is down, but we're not It is explosive mostly because you are wearing short shorts. I am wearing what should be short shorts, but when you gain weight, your stomach, you're kind of your what is it called your like lfa or poop poop Y poopa pushes it down and turns short shorts into long shorts. You, however, are still looking fit. We are getting an increased amount of thie between the two of us. I wouldn't don't sell yourself short. We are. we are How are you doing today, David? Walk me through Wimbledon, what is it day nine today? Yeah I am exhausted. You would think my first lap around the career slam would be just a victory lap. but it's been a lot of hard work, a lot of hard hours filming for practice, doing a lot of social media this year at Wimbledon. but some really interesting results that I'm sure Tony is very excited to ask me about. am we were lucky enough to watch the Osaka Sabalinka match yesterday together Hang on one second Okay, let's go over here, maybe. Okay, we have just been really interrupted by a woman who has dropped something but she doesn't even know if it's on this court or another court But security is helping her. So we have now moved over to the baseline right on court fifteen. Yes, we were just getting into yesterday's results. We sat together watching Sabalenkca, Osaka What were your thoughts about that match? My thoughts were that Naomi Osaka played a near perfect match. You know, It's one of those things where I think in the context of the last three months of Sabolinka's career, it looks like a bad loss, but I think It's one of those times where when you're up against someone who can hit that hard and serve that well as Naomi did and has not since probably when she won the Aralian open in twenty twenty one. I mean, it was just a vintage performance from Naomi. Unfortunately she was not able to maintain the quarters, but just like a really phenomenal result of her that I do hope has long lasting effects leading into the rest of the year Yeah, if she advanced to her first quarterfinal here at Wimbledon, I thought she served incredibly well. I told you during the match, I was a little surprised Sabalinka didn't try changing it up M, but you said you didn't think that honestly there was a lot of opportunity for that because Hanos Naomi played Yeah, the openings on serve were just so narrow. She had maybe one or two looks at second serve' like a couple of maybe love fifteen or fifteen opportunities You have to be at such a high level in those moments too clinch and you know and convert those sorts of really narrow margins. And yeah, Ana didn't play God level tennis, but and it probably would have taken that level to really rest initiative away from Naomi, who was just so comfortable, so relaxed. From watching her practice multiple times this week, she's just been in such a good mood, smiling, laughing. just you feel like she's really hitting her stride, which is why I am surprised that the quarterfallal did not work out the way I assumed it was Okay, let's talk about the quarterfinals. She lost six seven six six four to Mukoa. I was there for the second set of this match. Did you see the fourall game I did not. I was watching the tiebreaker. Girl So Naomi starts the game by hitting two aces early in the game. By the end of the game, she hits two horrible double faults. She does not get a first serve on the ad side for several points in a row ends up losing the game on in swinging volley that went outside the doubles ally. It was one of the worst performances I've seen since my own performance when I lost a ten point tie break in the my fininals of gay games where I hit three double balls in one ten point tie break. We won't talk about it And then from there it was just pretty much over. So yeah, I mean, I guess Mhova is playing quite well What do you think of that semif final going in Mhova verse In some ways it feels inevitable because Mukava As that kind of all court game that we associate with grass Court tennis it has not really translated at this tournament over the last few years. but I do think this is Mukava's most consistent, most confident year. She started the season with her first one thousand title in Doha and just has also seemed really relaxed on the practice court and is a very different opponent from Aarina Sabanin I don't know if I'd want to warm up Carooline Muava playing someone like Sabalenis. I'm not totally surprised at the le. I'm a little surprised only because just Naomi was such nails in the fourth round. but that We're getting another Mukva golf Grand Sam semiinal. We're starting to see quite a few of those later stages of majors, which is interesting I have to think that Mukaba has the edge, but we're starting to see Coco offff perhaps going through the same phenomenon. We saw Ia Shkantk experience last year. When you make it to the second week of a grasscourore tournament like Wimbbleon, it starts to play a little bit like clay and I hass played phenomenal cllaycore tennis over the years. so is Coco started to look like M maybe Cook walks away with this Mumbled title. I will say there was a woman who was raising her arm up and snapping every time Naomi hit a winner or an Ace. Relatable. Yeah, relelatable. And that was my favorite part of that match. So thank you to her. She had her fan going, I was living. I actually tried to find her after could not. W she snapping the fan or snapping her fingers? She was snapping her fingers and then blowing the fan on her face while taking pictures. that. She had a great time at. a fan cl. I Ebody had a great time on that court until for all. and then Naomi stopped having a good time Um ye, you know, honestly, I don't know that I've seen Coco serve as well as she served speaking of serving. Today, she hit what I call the Serena serve, which is on the Due side tea. Ace after ace after ace. I've never seen that from her or at least not in a long time Do you think she holds up and beats Mukv? I'm asking you on the spot? I do. Yeah. to be honest because you know Cococo does so well When everything else is not going well is that she is the most tenacious competitor and she's one of the best athletes on tour, if not the best athlete on tour. And it's why I've stopped writing off Coa when she has these you know bad performances. And I think everyone knows that she has the lowest floor and maybe the highest ceiling of the players on tour because she could be so unplayable and really just force you into these errors, show up on Ct in twelve double faults. but I do think when we get to this stage of the tournament. She has played her way into form. If you're going to get Cocoa much like Serena, love this I am to compare Coco to anyone in Serena, much less Cocoa to Serena, you're going to have to get her in the earlier rounds. I think when Cokco's in the semif finals of a grand Slam, I don't expect the sorts of performances that maybe she's experienced in first round, second rounds, even third rounds. but I think You know, against a player like Mukova, who she's beaten at at these stages of slams before has a really good record against her I think it's coco and It's incredible to think that we're pentally matches away from Coco Be being three quarters the way to a Kistlam Is she going to do it? Yeah, I think so. Really. I don't see anyone from the bottom half beating her either if she's playing well. I mean Linda Nooskva probably is the favorite to make the final out out in the bottom half of the draw. That'll be a very next Jenny sort of final. I feel like it's a really big potentially coming out party for Linda Noskva who I feel like is probably one of the players that tennis inssiders know pretty well, but we don't even know her that well because she hasn't really necessarily performed well at the biggest tournaments, you know making it deep at these tournaments. So she's someone who you really pay attention to in the third round, fourth round, quarterfinals is not someone we're used to making deep runs, it's certainly at Gndlamamp tournaments. So I think it'll be really interesting to see how the world gets introduced to Nooskiva if it is a Nooskiva golf final But but even then golf has so much experience that It really is tough to see anyone other than Coco walking away with this. If you've never seen the Noscova Robakana Australian Oen, I think third round tie break that went to about seven hundred twenty two to seven hundred twenty, go watch it, find it. It's so good. I would agree. honestly, I was a little disappointed in the Madison Keys performance from yesterday The margins are just thin on grass and I feel like you can tell that more Um when you're here watching it live than even on TV Okay, let's change gears Did you see Robert Fara today on the grounds with his white shorts mister Doubles King. Do you know who I'm talking about? Well, I know who that is, but I was going to ask if you're you're the last person watching men's doubles. Okay, I love men's Doubles. D't get me started. I watched a lot yesterday. That be the end of your album, The last man Watching M'sles. Oh my God. Okay, the last queen. Okay. Okay. well then I guess that's a no. Well, I went out there to watch that And I've got very vividag.. It's the same as it was when he won the tournament here several years ago He's still rocking Yeah, he's still rocking the tight shorts. What about the men's side? Are you carrying at all? I'm finding myself to not be as interested in the men's single side right now. Let's getting meianic Center again. I mean, I didn't know what we were in for given how Rolling Gars played out. You know, the men's side is still very, very top heavy. and if you don't have those two top guys anchoring the field. thingsings can get a little squirrely, but you know, Jonakson has played some really consistent tennis, watchatched a lot of amber practs this week and he's been in a really good form as well. It's hard to see anyone taking this lam away from Jonakon giving him a chance to defend this title Yeah, I've been I don't know. I just haven't been as interested. Okay, my last question. I know you've been really into real Housewives of Rhode Island. Oh my God. If a real Housewives. I absolutely am obsessed with the show. It is one of the first real Housewives that I've actually watched every episode of totally in it Obsessed with the people in quite a while in a few years. You know what I mean? Where I'm like, it's appointment television. If you had to describe this Wimbledon so far as one of the ladies from Reoyal Housewives of Rhode Island Who would you pick and why? And if I need to go first, I can It's a little I feel like it's a little Joellllen. I feel like the truth will come out. You know we're seeing the truth of like who is really standing up to the pressure and it's a Coco Gf, It's a Jonnic senter. Like those are two probably of the most tenacious best competitors we have on tour who really hold up through, you know, both experienence a lot of adversity in Rolling Garros, you know, came back swinging and looking to bring the receipts, you know, against their rivals here at a tournament that know, certainly favors one, doesn't necessarily favor the other and they're both playing some really great tennis. I think. Your husbands Rentless Rentlessness is I think the theme of the theme of the day here. Okay. Jo Ellen, I'm hoping she has a really good season too. If If you're listening, Joan, which I'm sure you are, don't overdo it. I am working while in concert. Oh my god, stop. I can't. I was actually gonna say Ashley, I, who when we talk Re Hos flies of Re Island. Yes, exactly. When we have our full conversation about this season, you'll understand that I think she's very underestimated and underrated on this season. She does important work on that. She's been very important And we know her already. She's a familiar face. She's been on the bachelor and I feel like this Wimbled and we're seeing a lot of things that look familiar to me. Like you said, we're seeing Gf Mukva again. We're seeing cinner. We saw Osaka lose to Mukova in a tight match, which we've seen that several times. So it's like a familiar face that we kind of know, but still new and fresh And so I'm going with Ashleye. We're seeing stability in the midst of chaos. I feel like I could have used that as Asley Mask honestly during Osaka. like. Okay, last question, have you had a gayest moment of the week so far at this tournament or today I mean, honestly hang out with you pretty good. Oh my God, it so is. It really is. It's been so nice seeing you. David, plug away. whereere can people find you you're gay app.
