H's Friday G showh World Cup rolls on with all sorts of drama Celtics aren't done dealing. Sixers have a lot of guys who think they're number ones. How's that going to work? Welcome in. It's great to see you. We're live in Chicago on a Friday. It is a summer version of the Heard. Great show ahead The six, the super six in one hour from now, the top six World Cup goals from this week. JayMac has heardline today headlines today. So we got a we got a pack show a Friday So Jalen Brown traded to the Sixers. Push shocy What is going on That is historic. Take a deep breath. Four things to remember. Number one Everybody has a boss Even Elon Musk, get's called the IRS. And u Aout a year ago, Trump Everybody's got a boss Brad Stevens is a general manager, not an owner. The Celtics are owned by an investment group that does not also own TD garden So they're not swimming in cash. It's not very profitable They've got two guys Tatum and Brown playing together for nine years. That's longer than Chack and Kobe Nine years, one title clearly falling behind San Antonio and Oklahoma City So the investment group Yeah, that's who owns the Celtics, the investment group that doesn't own the arena said We're going to move off one of these guys. We couldn't beat the good teams last year. We're falling behind Brad Stevens has a boss. and I think he also realized it. Number two is Trading super Max players in twenty twenty six It's hard Post control is everything Not stacking rosters. it's not the eighty Lakers. Think about this The Milwaukee Bx were're offered Jayen Brown and two first round picks Shayen Brown, all NBA two first round picks The Milwaukee buck said Nah, We'll take Tyler Ho rotational players and more picks What to hell That's the new NBA Number three. Analytics run baseball and basketball, not football. They run it. You're a hack. you're a dinosaur, you're Jurassic If you're in a front office in the NBA and baseball and you don't go all in on analytics The first thing the new lakor owners did buildu an analytics department. Why are the Dodgers the best run team in sports? Analytics department Analytically, I'm sorry, Jalen Brown, not a number one And he's a fifty seven million dollars player annually. There's a great article today by Sam Amick, exxcellent reporting in the athletic. The Celtics are unbeatable Tatum has thirty three percent usage rates Jayln Brown got to be number one last year He didn't want to go back to being a number two. It's in the story and Tatum can't get to that usage rate because Jamalen Brown wants shots Jalen Brown got a taste it. he likes. I don' blame But with Jalen Brown as a one, they weren't beating good teams last year So number three is analytics run this sport, analytically The Celtics believe Derek White was a better player last year And that was leaked Payton Pritchard eightight million Shayen Brown, fifty seven million Is Jalen is he seven times better than Peyton Brichard? He's better The way the Celtics look at it is Payton Pichard at eight million fits our formula. I'm looking at this morning. Jayalen Brown's career. I'm sorry Analytics Don't blame the messenger The Celtics for his entire tenure with the team are better when he's off the floor That's what they say So he's making fifty seven million a year. He doesn't want to move back to a number two according to the athletic. And guess what? The market forum wasn't very big They wanted Milwauket. No. It wasn't very big. Hell for Yanis it wasn't even huge. and he's a better player And number four is every NBA team Nobody is more formula driven and analytic driven Then the Celtics We've been talking about this for years. They have a formula. The Nick don't. You can say they're too driven by formula and analytics But to them They look at Payton Pritchard and think eight million do to fifty seven million. Pold George, by the way, analytically in his career is up there with LeBron James and Coi Leonard Jayalen Brown analytically in his career is right up next to Westbrook Okay. So Take a deep breath. fourour things are true Brad Stehvens saw the future. OKC San Antonio pulling away and Brad Stevens has a boss. Number two, there wasn't that big of a market Super Max players are hard to trade. Number three, analytically, say what you want. Jayen Brown It's not a one. He's a two. I don't care about all NBA, Analytics. Number four, nobody's more analytically driven than the Celtics and by the way Nine years is a long time together. nine years one title Kobe Shaack, eight years three. Like when you get a great tandem and you're pingem top of the market in a league now where you can't stack it and it's all about chemistry newew owners are like, we don't own the, we don't own the Ky Garden We're not profitable Not very. We got two guys nine years together, one starting to have Durability issues. We got to move one Here's Jalen Brown last night live streaming. He does that on the trade At one point, it was fine and out of nowhere it just went left. I definitely think it's more to it It definitely is more to it. I know Brad is getting a lot of the criticism but You know I just wish that more to it could have been explained. I just wish that they had the respect to just tell me what exactly what it was And I would I would have understood and I would have respected that. man they packed me up Dan they roll me up, pack me up S andar, buddy Um Read the Athletic, the Sam Amic article says a lot Okay, so this was interesting. LeBron James, who, according to Rich Paul, W wouldould be willing to play now for the veteran minimum three point nine million. He now has the greatest value in the history of American sports, if that's what he's willing to pay for I mean, that's like walking into a car lot seeing A little older Bentley, it's a used Bentley, but you're like it's Bentley.' give away for tw thousandve hundred dollars. I'll take it. I don't need it. I don't even have a garage space. I'll take it. behind Rich Paul I think he's talking to Max Kelleran There's a there's a board and on the board are all the teams listed? And for the radio audience, I'll try to explain this. Clearly, LeBron is is considering everything. Under the Dallas Mavericks, you see the world The word oil Golf. and a GM's name Under the Denver nuggets, you see Stan Cronky's name owner of the team undernder the Celtics Jason Tatum Brad Stevenens Under Cleveland it itss relationships, Kobe Altan and Dan Gilbert seventy sixers Miami, it's just players But there's players and owners, GM, lifestyle, investments, oil, LeBron is considering everything. And I've said this before. I've moved cross country now when I moved to Chicago five times Taxes. Airports, location, family whether You consider everything. and LeBron James is I come back to two things T teams, Golden State Drayon Steph play a high IQ, high functioning basketball I mean, Draymon and urry are in just a symmetry that is historically Special I think LeBron fits. I think LeBron also has always appreciated veteran players who are really, really smart. And Stehan Draymon are going a thousand miles an hour, that ecosystem is not for young players It's close to L.A He's got a great coach who he respects and it's a winning culture Number two is Cleveland. He's got a house there It's almost a museum Um He's got relationships. he's been there twice. I do think he would be embraced. They didn't they didn't they weren't H on the Brom we left Cleveland second time They said, thank you, we got them a title. they weren't harsh. So a golden state in Cleveland worked for me, but it does show you that LeBron is a businessman And and when Tom Brady, remember when we broke the story, Tom Brady going to Tampa. on anonymous source, by the way. When I broke that would not have broken it without it. When I broke that story One of the things Tom thought about. He wanted to go to Miami first Right? Like No state tax, weather, division. There was a lot of things. Tom wanted to face the Patriots again He didn't get that, but he chose Tampa. But a lot of what he chose in Tampa was Bruce Aryans and wide receivers. because in New England they couldn't draft wide receivers So guys like LeBron and Brady They consider everything. I mean, Messi chose the MLS in Miami. Why didn't he choose he had many options You know, when you get up to the billionaire status and you're as an entrepreneurial as Rich Paul and LeBron James, you're considering oil Gf Ownership, general manager, relationships Golden State, Cleveland feel like one and two to me or maybe Cleveland one Golden state two.ere's Rich Pall and why the warriors would be attractive to goolf would be tremendous with those guys. What about playing basketball with those? Oh, I mean, come on, Max You tell back What you tell me It Stephan Drake. What I will say to you is Stef andre obviously, you get F time champions like you are, you get some of the highest IQ basketball. You get a guy in Joe Lacup who I've told you this the whole time wants to win. He's not, he wants to win and a great business mind at that I think it makes sense And I'll ad Jason Timp in one hour at three point nine million, call me crazy, but could he go back to the Lakers I'm serious. I mean could great play initiator now that they got Rim protection I mean, would it sounds crazy. But I mean, Kevin Durant went to the Warriors at one point You know, Jaylen Brown just got traded for thirty five year old Paul George in division against the rival. That is fascinating, by the way. the whole part of the Jayalen Brown trade that's not being discussed. I'm going to talk about it around the corner I cannot believe it's not being discussed There are four players for the Sixers who view themselves as number one Bad Maxie Brown and if you don't think VJ Edgecombe doesn't, he averaged fifteen shots as a rookie firstirst game in the NBA, thirty six points, twenty four shots. You think he's now going to go to a four Hey, go ahead guys, I'll shoot nine times VJ Edgecombe is a stud They got four ones Do yourself a favor everyverybody saidnd Nick nurse a Christmas present because that is going to be I mean, that is going to be wild. JMac brought this up at the end of yesterday's show. it's a great point Who's callsing games Who's the number one? Hell, who's the number three And in the NBA, that matters. It's just like NFL wide receivers. likeike, hey guys, I don't mind Be a number two. I don't want to be a number three Like it matters. theseese guys and I've always backed NBA players on this. Your careers are short. I can do this forever, A lawyer can do it forever, a nurse can do it forever You know, if you're a great athlete, you're like, bro, I got to buy eight years of prime wide receiver prrime guy. Philadelphia now has four guys who view themselves as one and I think three of them have a great argument It's going to be tough. Listen. they're going to win fifty plus games. We know that. There's too much talent to not win fifty. But when it comes to the playoffs, a tough series against the Nicks. The Nicks have defined roles, right? It's Brunson's team. He's the son. They operate around him.. I don't know how that works for Nick Nurse. By the way, I will say I saw a report that the Celtics did ask for Edgecomb initially Yeah in the trade and Philly was like not happening guys. Okay sorry That's a great point. It's not like Brad Stevens made two calls Yeah. He called the league They couldn't move they couldn't move Jalen Brown because again, analytics run the sport and everybody in the league like fifty seven million For that player, the league views Jalen as a two analytically. and the league is run by analytics. Don't you think Ee Udoka in Houston who coached Brown to a title wouldould have been interested? He I mean, he knows Jalen Brown as well as anybody. He was with the Celtics And the rocket showed zero interest in Jalen Brown. To me, that's a little surprising, Colin. I don't think the market was as robust as he thought. Okay, there's a saying that went around forever and you can no longer say it, That's next. It's the round of sixteen from the historic As Stadium for a massive clash between Mexico at England at eightight Eastern Then Monday, following the United States win over Bosnia They head to Seattle to take on Belgium at eight Eastern, catch all the action on Fox. He an attacking midfielder for the United States men's national team, his second World Cup appearance. Gio Ryna is now joining us on the show. Bundus Liga playing in the German League before that Nottingham English Premier League He scored his first World Cup goal against Paraguay, which was electric. It's magical. I said the first half against Paraguay, Go I said, okay, I've been watching our United States men's and women's teams For as long as I can remember That's the greatest half I've ever seen of soccer As part of that moment of as part of this team That opening half for the World Cup What it feel like Yeah, you're spot on. I think we expect that from ourselves. We know we can do the talent we have, but more than anything, the collectiveness and the group that we have. You know, we really believe in ourselves and each other and we, you know, when you have that team chemistry that goes way far than anything else. So Yeah. That first half, we felt we made a statement in this tournament and you know that we're here, that we're arrived and we wanted to go pretty far. And yeah, now we're where I want to be and just want to keep progressing The Balligan Rd card, it went from no yellow to a suspension, which felt like an an inappropriately large gap. I always thought VAR was mostly about offsides, not about The intensity of a collision. How did it land for the players To be honest, I was warm up at the time, so I think it caught all of us a bit off guard. I think when you see the replay, ye, if you pause it right on the action,, of course, it can look a little bit dirty, but if you really just watch it fast pace and It's a soccer play. It's two guys fighting for the ball, feet get tangled up and he accidentally steps on someone's ankle and We're all confused. obviously don't agree with the decision, but in the end Whoever fills in for him this this coming Monday is going to be going to be after ready to go and yeah, we have twenty six guys who are ready to play All right, the number nine, Ricardo Peppi, obviously sixteen goals in the Dutch League a pouisic could move over. Do we know right now? who's going to fill in No, we don't, we don't. We just arrived in Seattle yesterday. so I'm sure the coaches are going to make a great decision and we really trust them to put us in the best position to win Rio, I said the perfect spot. in America, North America to play is Seattle, which I honestly feel like there's an argument. It's the best soccer city in North America. The crowds are, I mean, I talk to people who go there. It's different than even Los Angeles, Santa Clara, New York, Philadelphia, you know, Dallas, Houston, these great soccer places G give me your thoughts about playing in Seattle, the intensity of the crowd, American soil, and the advantage it appears to be for not only you guys, but Mexico. It just feels like it's worth a goal Yeah, obviously we played there just a couple of games ago against Australia. and I think we've all said it's probably the best atmosphere and the best fans we've had so far since we've been here Port really, yeah, feels like a twelfth manute at times the extra boost, the extra energy You know, all your families and family and friends there, and of course, everybody watching back home is just we feel the support It's amazing. I can't than everybody enough We're going to need them again. It's going to be a tough game and you know, hopefully us feeding off them and then feeding off us, we can you know, get to the next round. Is there an argument, Go that playing a man down was actually Crisis management And that in the long run, it's better for the team. It put you in a really difficult spot. Yeah, I think u We weren't really phased, to be honest, I think it was of course You know, you never want to go down in a knockout game to ten men, but We're prepared. I think you saw the rest twenty five, thirty minutes just They really didn't have much after where you see a lot of teams going down to ten men and they really struggled to see out games. But of course Maliak's amazing free kick made it a bit easier. Yeah. we all felt the same way with that one in. We all took a breath when that went in. so Yeah. We felt composed. Like I said, a lot of us are four years older than the last World Cup. so we've dealt with experiences like this in the past. so it was just relying on each other and working together and yeah being as his family You know, Joe, I said this. I always went into World Cups Cautiously optimistic. Could we get out of the group stage? I always felt yes. Could we win a knockout stage game? And I said before this World Cup after watching the Senegal German friendlies This is different We're deeper, our midfield, our speed, our athleticism We're different. I don't feel that now. Now France is the best team I've seen and almost by a notch. Do you think there's part of the world and part of the competition that still doesn't understand talented this United States team is I would like to think so. I mean, if you just number one, look at the players and where they're playing on our team. it's really top level clubs all over Europe And you obviously combine that with a great staff and a great coach at the same thing, all the best teams in the world But I think more than anything side our talent is Just the team we have, the collectiveness, the chemistry, the just enjoyment of being together every day and working together every day, it really goes so much far than anything. so It's like twenty six brothers plus the staff is really like one big family There's no clicks, there's no groups. It's just really just guys who love to go to war with each other You're in a great spot with his coaching staff. What has Mauricio Poetino? what is your relationship like with him It's fantastic. You know, ever since we first met each other in the first camp, he's just you fueled all of us with confidence, especially myself. So love yeah, just very laid back, very friendly, but at the same time demands a lot on the pitch, but you know, also outside training and you know, downtime, very easy to speak to brings a very lovely. easy going energy. So a really good balance of you know when we need to perform and when the pressure is there to show up, but also knows how to take it down off the field and enjoy time with the team You guys face Belgium in March. They're an older team. I tend to think it's an advantage not only playing in Seattle, but our youth as the tournament goes on helps. Younger athletes in their prime recover faster. Belgium's older. You know, I watch them against Senegal. I think they're very beatable. That loss What do you take from it an advantage now having been kind of Beaten soundly. I mean, what do you take from that that match Yeah, I think so looking back, it's definitely a good experience play a really, really high level opponent. I think obviously if we didn't play those teams and you know, we end up here in the World Cupay, we'd be a bit You know losts we're not really sure what what the future games could be like, but this is where we want it to be. And you know, at this stage of Tourament, there's only going to be really, really high level teams So yeah, obviously it wasn't our best game against them last time but you know, it was a different camp, a different time, different squad. So yeah, we know, they're a very good team. Really, really good players who have played at the highest level for the last ten to fifteen years. So we're going to have to be at our best if we want to win this game and yeah definitely going to review them, do all the tactical stuff we need to do in the next couple of days and then ye be ready to go on Monday U, I know you can't spend a lot of time watching the entire World Cup fromrom merchandise to ratings to attendance, it has collectively takaking our attention away We're in the middle of aaseball season. It overlaap with the NBA finals. It overlaped with the NHL Stanley Cup, the US. O peopleeople are watching this. Can you feel it? Do the team feel that America is all in on this for? We've always we've always put our arms around patriotism and the World Cup. This feels different. att least to me, does it to you Yeah, I think we expected the support to be there, but This has really blowown our socks off from Number one, just the fans and stadium, howr how egric it has been. And then of course, you see Social media. The wasash parties You know the numerous messages that we're all receiving after games from people back home. It's just hard to put into words. We didn't expect to be this good, but I'm sure they're going to keep showing out. and we can't think them enough. Dio, congratulations to you and good luck against Belgium. Thank you. Thank you very much. appreciate it Well the gratitude and humility you get from the United States Men'snational team players has been, I mean, it's just palpable. It's just an impossible team not to root for. And it's hard not to root for our fans. I watch what you watch and We've behaved, we've been gracious, We've been just wacky enough. I thought it was amazing Wing all the video of the Malik Tillman free kick There was like a kid, like a seven year old kid who had a camera from behind the net He's doing like play by play and it's just it's just been amazing I called one of the, you know, big shots, one of the suits yesterday. I'm like, you guys should be proud. This is really something else It is just Kind of freaked out watching Spain though yesterday. Jay Mac didn't put me in a great mood. Yikes. Jay Mac for the news No No no no Hed L News. All right let's go to the NBA bigig trade kind of in the Western conference. De Andre Aiden gets shipped from the Lakers to the Washington Wizards. We'll get to the trickle down for Washington in a moment, but the Lakers get in return Jaden Hardy kind of a bouncy six four wing shooting a bit of a question, but he's a playmaker. He can get to the tenin He played with Luca in Dallas. He did he can move. He turns twenty four this weekend. So he's a young guy with some upside, a little bit of a bilo. And listen, online all these people are coming after me. You said Deandre Ayon was good. No, guys. I said his value of his contract, he only made eight million dollars. Yeah. So for that, that's not a bad price. The problem is JJ Reddick could not deal with him. I got buddies who live across the street from Ayon out here in California. Apparently, Reddick is with the moving trucks, getting him the hell out of town I'm just kidding about the JJ R Deandndre Aiden is a bounce around the league guy. He's always had a much higher opinion of his status in the league. He was a number one pick. He's got offensive skill, but he's one of those guys. if he doesn't get looks and shots, you can lose him and you're not getting Luca and Austin Reeves are going to do this scoring on this team. Grimes is going to get a lot of looks Kexler is more of a defensive guy. but you know, if I got nothing against Deon R Aiden, he is what he's become kind of a bounce around the lead guy and you know, not always the easiest guy to coach. whatever. he's leaving town U But I my take is Sometimes it's just about filling boxes Right? Like that's all it's about. Okay, Lakers needed to get bigger and wider, check check. They needed more three point shooting, check check, even drafted it. They needed to get younger, check check. So Deonreay Ayon didn't really Jared Vanderbilt's a defender. Walker Kessler's a defender. So they've got two guys with size who will defend. They lose Marcus Mart, but Marcus Mart was an older player. Yeah. I just remind people, I know everybody all the Lakers roster stinks Do you guys remember who PJ Washington was before Luca made him Do you remember who Daniel Gafford was? I'm just telling you, Luca can raise the level of these guys because playing with him, open shots and rim running. Real quick, Colin, on the wizards angle of this So they don't want to move off Anthony Davis Right? They they want him on their back line I don't know. arere they getting such a good offer from the warriors now that it's like, well shucks. If we could bring in Aiton Maybe now we trade Anthony David. I don't know what the thinking is there, but I wonder if LeBron to Golden State now picks up steam now that Athan's in Washington and you could move off AD. I don't know You think this makes it more or less likely that AD gets traded I don't think it has a bearing. No no, no, I shouldn't say that. I mean A started a bunch of games last year for the Lakers. I'm not saying it was good, but the wizards to me, Deandre Ayton, Trey Young, AJ De Bona, Anthony Davis. It's a weird roster. Yeah. I don't love it. I really don't like it. I don't like the Wizard roster at all. I may have to downshift that forty to forty five wins a little bit in a moment. All right anyways, let's move on listen Let's go to the NFL, Colin, and specifically college football. Obviously the draft next year, everybody's geeked It's going to be a loaded draft. So you your guy Tod McSay And I know he's your guy. I know him a little bit I'm not banging on him here, but we know when you make lists. You got to do something different to get people to click because everybody's doing a list. Wh Why do we To list Arch Manning is the fourth best quarterback in the twenty seven draft class He was atrocious his first six weeks last year. Atrocious. And how was he his final six weeks I mean, listen, you want to talk atrocious. I love Lenora Sellars. He is a walking sack. He literally walks into sacks. It is such a red flag for him. NFL teams are not gonna even look at him. Okay. I tell you an executive that I trust through the years. I just got into this conversation probably two weeks ago wishing an executive in the NFL a happy summer and he we sent a couple of texts People like CJ Carr from Notre Dame. Oh yeah, I would if you one made him one, I would get it. I CJ Carr is going to get a lot of momentum for the number one player. Yeah. By the way, Dante Moore, love them. rooll that Indiana tape in a big spot against a big team. Dante Moore is excellent. I will say I like Julian S saying more than the market That's a risky roll ofonight for a guy who likes big strapping six five quarterbacks. I still like our chances So you know, big story Usually when you have a really good player And you trade him, you get a lot back. And a lot of people were shocked. The Celtics traded Jayen Brown to the rival Sixers. How could it happen First of all, remember these four things, these four. Number one, everybody has a boss Even Elon Musk, it's called the IRS. And About a year ago, Trump Everybody's got a boss Brad Stevens is a general manager, not an owner The Celtics are owned by an investment group that does not also own TD garden So they're not swimming in cash It's not very profitable They've got two guys Katum and Brown playing together for nine years. That's longer than Chack and Kobe Nine years, onene title And they're clearly falling behind San Antonio and Oklahoma City. So the investment group, yeah, that's who owns the Celtics, the investment group that doesn't own the arena said We're going to move off one of these guys. We couldn't beat the good teams last year. We're falling behind. Brad Stevens has a boss. and I think he also realized it. Number two is Trading super Max players in twenty twenty six It's hard Post control is everything N's not stacking rosters. It's not the eighty Lakers Think about this. The Milwaukee Bx We're offered Jayen Brown and two first round picks Jayen Brown, all NBA two first round picks. The Milwaukee buck said Nah, We'll take Tyler Hero rotational players and more picks to hell? That's the new NBA Number three. Analytics run baseball and basketball, not football. They run it. You're a hack, you're a dinosaur, you're Jurassic. If you're in a front office in the NBA and baseball and you don't go all in on analytics The first thing the new lakor owners did Bu an analytics department Why are the Dodgers the best run team in sports? Analytics department Analytically, I'm sorry, Jalen Brown, not a number one. And he's a fifty seven million dollars player annually. There's a great article today by Sam Amick, excellent reporting in the athletic The Celtics are unbeatable when Tatum has thirty three percent usage rate Jayen Brown got to be number one last year He didn't want to go back to being a number two. It's in the story and Tatum can't get to that usage rate because Jalen Brown want shots Jalen Brown got a taste it. likes. I don't blame. But with Jalen Brown as a one, they weren't beating good teams last year So number three is analytics run this sport, analytically The Celtics believe Derek White was a better player last year and that was leaked Kayton Pritchard eightight million Jhalen Brown, fifty seven million Is Jalen is he seven times better than Peyton Britard? He's better The way the Celtics look at it is Payton purchured at eight million fits our formula I'm looking at it this morning Jalen Brown's career. I'm sorry. Analytics Don't blame the messenger The Celtics for his entire tenure with the team are better when he's off the floor.
