How do you not fall in love with this team I don't know how you know fall in love with this team. I'm watching some of these big brands struggle and play passive and were're so aggressive I want to get back to the Jalen Brown gets tright of the Sixers. First of all, I think it's a great move by the Sixers But my takeaway is chill out Celtic fans Tatum, Payton Pritchard, Derek White, Paul George, Mitchell Robinson Potentially Treay Murphy, that team could get to the finals Listen There's an argument. Elon Musk is a genius. Mark Zuckerberg similarly Not always easy to work with. None always easy to work for can wear people out. I mean, there's an argument, Jayalen Brown literally is the smartest player in professional sports He was holding Harvard lectures at twenty one He was at an MIT robotics class. qualify I couldn't find the building that was in. He was at an MIT robotic session when he secured the largest contract in NBA history. He's obviously brilliant But you know, can he be a little heavy? I've said this for years Earon Rogers, who also like Brown went to cow And I was told this by two Hacker players years ago is that Aaron was moody and Earon was heavy and sometimes we don't want to be enlightened. We just want to be teammates. Listen, I'm seeing stuff leak out about Jayalen Brown from the Celtic side, like Derek White had a better year What So, you know, nobody's questioning. he's good. He's great But the analytics don't love him. hisis contract is massive and in about three weeks, I think he's eligible for an extension. Paul George isn't. They can move off Paul George's contract by the trading deadliner next year Boston's going to be good. Philly could be great Brown's amazing and brilliant. But sometimes I mean, I would tell you this, the smartest people I've ever worked with, I won't say for. I try to avoid bosses. The smartest people I've ever worked with in my life can be heavy And it's hard I've never suffered from that. You know, stuff comes in one ear, out the next, I forget it. That's the good thing to having ADHD. I don't remember anything U But, you know, the Celtics are like, it's time. Let's not get rigid. We got a title. He's still going to market. He's a great player That's where we are. This segment is brought to you by Halon, official partner of US soccer and the maker of Censidim, Toms, Voltteran Advil and Centrum. You can catch all his stuff worldld cut now on Foxports YouTube channel All right, I thought, you know, sometimes Bob, you don't plan stuff but it's good for you And I thought the red card us having to play a man down That's crisis management. and I think I think we got better as a soccer team byy the end of the night based on that. As a former coach of our national team, do you buy into that a little bit I buy into that one hundred percent I would say that the game as a whole was different than the other games So we had to understand things. We had to manage better. We had to be patient Bosnia wanted a slow game. They wanted to keep everything in front of them And so we had to wait for moments to come to go fast. And when they did come, off we went. and that's a credit. A lot to Balligan because as the focal point of the attack everyvery advantage He is relentless with runs with power with speed. So that was awesome. And then look to get to the second half Now we've got a one zero lead We're down a man and we found such a good balance between finding ways to still step up. and be aggressive and other moments of just being compact and organized. It was really smart. Bob, let me ask you, I know in football, which I know better, in football, like a lot of NFL teams, a majority of their practice is what they call red zone situations, crisis moments. Um When you were coaching the United States Men's national team, did you ever have sessions or practices where you in the middle of it said, okay, we lost land and on of it. We lost our star. We're a man down, adjust Do you coach for that You do. When you when you put teams together in training, you don't always play the first eleven against the next eleven You rotate some players, you make some changes, you create some situations where one team is down a man. So you're constantly trying to challenge the team to be ready for whatever happens on the field Your take on the red card, It was initially not even a yellow. So to go from a non yellow to a suspension feels really heavy to me. How did you view it I have two views. First is just generally in all sports, we want consistency. And we just get frustrated when we see things and it doesn't look the same one game versus the other game In terms of our football Sometimes I ask, what are we doing? Because if you slow a play down and you freeze it can make anything look bad. So that's right. We've got to find some version of the Fgrant one that allows the call to to recognize a bad foul, but understand it's it just is not a red card You know, I was saying this and Bob, and again, I'm going to lean on you here. Obviously two yellows are red. I said, I love when sports tweak things. The VAR didn't exist before like twenty eighteen. The hydration breaks. So soccer, baseball, all these sports tweak Could I argue that as the stakes are raised in the World Cup knockout stage, maybe not in the group stage maybe not in the European Championship or Copa But in the knockout stage of the World Cup that you have two levels of red cards First level automatic ejection But no suspension Second level red card is both That would be an outrageous, egregious intentional Does that make sense or is that too would that deviate too much from history? No, it does make sense and all sports need to find ways to adapt So far in this World Cup, what have we seen? We've seen stars And so as we get into knockout phase, quarterfinals, semifinals. We don't want days where those stars are in the stands. We want to see them on the field I thought Bob, I thought VAR was created. to get the kind of right wrong. like goal, no goal, off sides, not off sides. I didn't think replay was about discussing intensity of compact Like I always thought it was like basically for a ball is it in or is it out offsides or no offsidees Were you surprised that they used it with no yellow card for an intensity argument It's a real challenge how you use VAR because there are plays in our game that regardless of how you look at it It's fifty fifty or fifty one forty nine. And when we are using VAR to look and almost referee the game a second time or a third time, it still comes down to the human eye. and so we want exact calls, but the game just doesn't work that way. I'm watching Mexico's dominant at Aztecca. I couldn't tell you the last time they lost there. I'm watching our, you know, Santa Clara, Seatta I think Seattle iss as good a soccer city as North America has Could I Ricardo Peppi is scored sixteen goals in the Dutch League. He's obviously capable. He's not Ballan, but he's darn capable is Seattle In this perfect world, as Belgium is older They get shorter rest in the group stage Could I make an argument the one place that may be worth half a goal to us is Seattle and it's the perfect destination being a star down. In this World Cup, I think we're seeing many stadiums that give us a half goal or a goal Because the response in the country and inside the stadium has been amazing And Seattle is also special. It's a place where the U S. has always played well. The fans are really loud. So I expect that that's going to work in our favor. Okay, withithout Malligan Pulisics the set upp man. willill he need to be more aggressive? I thought My only criticism last night, I don't know if it's on Pochatino. I didn't get enough of Pulisic in the first fifteen to twenty minutes. I did later. There was an energy burst, But now he doesn't have Balligan. He doesn't have his cleanup hitter. He doesn't have his nine, his striker Do you go in with a completely different game plan No. I think if we leave the position, the nine out for a second and we look at the other nine field players The relationships, the ideas, the movements are in total sync right now. And so what changes is just the profile of the striker Balligan, direct Like I said earlier, relentless Peppy a little bit more of a link up player, but he's still smart and I think in his own way, he can find advantages in the box and he's a good finisher. So I think the rest of the football, the understanding between Tillman and McKenney and polalisic and Robinson and Dust, this part doesn't change at all And then we just have a different type of striker and hopefully he can get some chances and take advantage What does Belgium do that concerns you Belgium is the best team that we will have faced in this World Cup. But they're also not the Belgium of a few years ago. No. But they have some players that aren't capable at any moment of making a big play. And so off all things yesterday, D Bronna comes out at halftime. He's been one of their stars for a long time I don't know what will happen because in the second half when they needed to push the game, It happened with a lot of guys that came on the field, But the Bina sees certain windows, se certain passes can play certain balls that if the defender tunes out for a second, he can make you pay. So it's the quality of some of their best players that will be a little bit different than we've seen so far in this worldorld Cup. Yeah, Yeah, it's funny. Balligan has a little bit Messy is probably the best I've ever seen. There's an intuition. There's a sense of where the ball with they used to say this Bob about at Wayne Gretky. He knew where the puck was before it got there And I feel like Balligan's got that kind of, I don't know if it's EQ. I don't know what it is, but Balligan is always in the right place at the right time. Do you coach that? Am I overstating it? What does it mean as a striker He just recognizes the moments when there's an advantage. And then as I said earlier He runs hard. And so the defenders They get worn out. They deal with a guy who just keeps coming and coming and coming. He doesn't need a lot of service. He just needs that in the right moments, they look for him and balls get played and now he's going to take advantage. And so even Tillman's pass, it doesn't work perfectly, but when the ball comes loose Baligan is faster to the second ball and he's a great finisher So there was a little private discussion between a couple of our lads before the Malik Telman free kick and they were whispering and they, you know, it's, And I was thinking to myself Uh, you know, don't don't look at the wall. D't don't like give it away. So what do you think they were discussing in that moment Yeah, you always put a group of players over the ball and then there's a little discussion of what does the wall look like Is this going to be more a right footed shot, a left footed shot by having multiple players over the ball, you're also hiding what's going to happen. But I think it was pretty clear that with all the disguise that Tillman was going to take it and his technique to get the ball up and over the wall. From that distance is fantastic That was something else. That was just, you know, it's so interesting because you've been in these shoes You've been here before And, you know, and I've watched you coach and afterfter that kick I watched Mauricio. he was like us. He was like me on my couch is u I just thought it was so, I want to go back to the red card When the red card happens, we got a little bit lucky, Bob, because four minutes later there was a hydration break. So we got a little tactical reboot I did feel for about a minute after The red card. We were trying to get our C legs a little bit. We weren't quite sure Should we be aggressive? Sould we be passive? Did you sense that or did you feel they were under control immediately I think for a few minutes, we needed to get our bearings And these hydration breraks can help you in certain situations. Oh yeah. And that was one. And then I think there's a few ideas, there's encouragement. And then at that point, it's not simply what the coaches are saying. It's a chance for players to talk to each other And you want to find, like I said earlier, some balance. You don't want to just drop deep and defend for thirty minutes in your box but you want to be smart you hear always about being compact. So the distances between players become very important. And then as the one player steps up, you just need the rest of the team to move up a little bit with him so that the spaces are really kept tight. Um Bob, this has been fantastic. His Fox YouTube page on the World Cup I will say Bob, I think I've watched everybody play three times, att least parts of it France looks France is the only team I watch And I think We don't match up with them. We don't look the same How do you feel about that France is incredible. and to your point Men when they attack they have players that are so good and their' understanding that that they have created in this World Cup in their attacking play and they're also balanced. their central defenders are so strong and so athletic. So yes. There's the top team And then there's a next group. and I think we are starting to make a clear statement that we're ready to be in that next group. I don't know if England can beat Mexico and Az tacred. you have a strong opinion on that I don't think there are sure of what's going to hit them because when you go in there And you don't have enough time to acclimatize, that altitude hits you hard and When you make hard runs, the time it takes to recover takes longer. So they're going to deal with something that's very new. I'm sure their sports science people have been planning and preparing, but when you get there It's not easy Yeah All right, Bob Bradley, Foxports YouTube channel, as always, coach, I appreciate you stopping our show. It's been great. Thanks for having me As always Yeah, it's I can remember years ago. I at of college, I got a job in Las Vegas, which is the desert. And I'd never been to Lake Tahoe before. And at the time I was like, you know, I was running a lot and I don't know how I was doing that, but I got into running for a while and I went up to Lake Tahoe in the summer in the elevation I literally was getting winded in this house on the mountain, walking up the stairs to the kitchen It's like, well I'm exhausted. It's nine thirty in the morning. I just walked from the basement upstairs So you know, as Tcca Mexico City, which is I've been told the greatest food city in the world It's supposed to be unbelievable U But if you're not yeah, two thousand feet higher elevation than Denver, which we call mile high city So I don't know. when's the last time they lost Mexico lost in Ezeca. It has been a while I am utterly confused B LeBron James Story I I do I do not understand this I wonder can we get Rich Paul on the show? Honestly, does he have time I don't understand this story. So I don't want a strong opinion on it because I don't understand it I'll get to it in a second. One more Hed? According to Sham Sharana, who I trust been around knows his stuff We've got a million sources LeBron James is now willing to sign a veteran minimum at three point nine million annually Well and just go back to the Lakers. LeBron James and agent Rich Paul said, quote LeBron wants a pursuit of complete happiness. The quote is complete happiness. Okay He wasn't happy in L.A. I know he was overjoyed. They drafted his son. I was told from a source that would know LeBron loves LA. his family loves LA. They should And If the Lakers would have gone to Rich and LeBron. I mean, maybe they did. I don't think they would If they would have gone to LeBron and offered him three point nine million I think they would have had every right to say, guys Give me a freakaking break on this. Mill L Brone a businessman. You know, he knows what he's doing I think if they would have offered in three point nine, he would have been fittingly Annoyed And I think Rich Paul would have been reasonably Um, ticked off But now it says he'll play for three nine and he wants to seek happiness. Now I would say this, happiness is like a rainbow. Some days you start the day happy, the end the day. I tell my kids this all the time. Dad, I want to be happy. and I'm like, what does that mean That's You could see a rainbow in the morning and be happy, hear birds chirping and be happy. and then somebody breaks up with you an hour later and you're crying. Like happppiness doesn't last that entire day. There is no vallhola. There's no perfect happiness But I was told he really liked LA. Now I understand the ans with for a year Austin Reeves being more highly compensated, But Austin and LeBron get along great. That's another thing I've been told. They really like each other. LeBron James embraced Austin Reeves and LeBron doesn't embrace All the young guys Kyle Kzma Lonzo Ball LeBron always embraceed Austin Reeves. So I know that's not a problem. Luca loves him. LeBron loves Austin Reeves. You can you watch him play. Remember when Who's the defensive guy. The Lakers got undrafted, placelays for O KC. Alx Caruso. Lebron loved Alx Caruso I mean, you could tell because Caruso was such a dog on the defense event Like LeBron will show you who he likes with his body language. He's always liked Austin Reeves So here's Rich Paul on the Bonze future Once he got to a place to where he said, listen, man I understand where things are And I get it. I know that's where I could probably make the most money you know, for me where I'm at today, you know, it's probably not the best thing for me to do. I probably would just go away from that. So And I said, are you one hundred percent Sure And he said, yes, I'm one hundred percent sure that's that's not a place I would want to return Okay, so that I'm going to take from the Max Kellermman, Rich Pulk discussion there that the Lakers never offered him three point nine because if LeBron told Rich Paul and Rich Paul just told us, I can probably make the most money there than the Lakers didn't offer in three point nine. And I dont and I think that would be insulting I mean it'd be insulting to walk up to Tom Brady in Tampa and say, we'd like you to have the league minimum. I mean, you just just don't do that. That's not That's not classy. Like you can you can say I'll give you fifteen I'm not going to say you're going to be the lowest paid guy in the roster or among them. All right, J Mack with the news No, no, no, no. T turn on the news All right, K, let's go to USA Bosnia. stillill a lot of meat on that bone. obbviously, the Malik Tillman goal was incredible. But did you know this Tilman had his footstepped on and had to switch his boots out at halftime, Kin. Great stuff on the interview with Jenny Taft, here it is, Tilman talking about it I was in pain, but my my shoe was cut so This is why I changed the boot here. Someone stepped on me Oh yeah, it's just pain, I guess notothing too bad. Now I think we have a photo of it, the bloody sock. They're calling this the most famous bloody sock since Kurt Silling. if you remember that one in the MOB post season. there it is. T I mean, that's pretty gnarly A. You know, and had to change out the right boot. And of course he bangs home the game win and kick great call from Stu Holden predicted that Landon Donovan before this had the greatest goal for the United States men's national team ever. Y. That was the greatest goal ever. I think this is what's the greatest free kick U I mean, I'll be totally honest about this. I mean, this is how gifted Malik Tilman is I don't think we ever made that Maybe Land and Donovan could Maybe Pelica could Dempsei click Dempsei in his prime. he could bend it I we just have not had many athletes that can do this. That is world class. That is that is ba, That's what the Gs do. That's something we just didn't have in our arsenal. Yeah. That is everything now We can do everything, Colin. I mean,'s'm reading I'm reading some of these analytic nerdy soccer guys. They're saying, listen We may even not even need Balligan to beat Belgium. That's how poorly they've performed again just the analytics. I listen, I watched Belgium. Seneg I watch the whole thing and Belgium was outplayed. and then Senegal got kind of strangely passive late and got Belgium back into it But it was funny. I'm talking to Jason, I'm texting him, and I'm like, I literally was watching and it was two one I went to the kitchen to get It's clear eyed. It's the club soda. Yeah. I went to the kitchen and I'm like, I text Jason and I'm like, man We got another. Good team eliminated. He's like, what are you talking about Belgium just equalized it. I'm like what I went back down the hall and it's like, oh my God. I mean it was, we've had some wild finishes. Jelon, you never want to get ahead of yourself, but Spain is playing here at about ninety minutes. If you want to start scouting for the quarterfinal matchup USA Spain. that's slow check out Spain. Spain has not given up a goal yet in the group play Pret decent s out there. Can I throw this at you then? Because of the technology and the helmet, home field advantage in the NFL is down to I think about a point point a half I mean, Green Bay maybe two points or New Orleans maybe two points, but largely so fari maybe like half a point But largely, home field advantage in our football has been reduced because of the equipment in the helmet I'm trying to think and we watch the New York Knicks go to Philly, go I mean, New York Kicks home or away didn't matter where they played. So I watched basketball. it did not matter for the Kicks Is soccer and baseball, it's always been about pitching. If I've got the better pitcher, you know, I can quiet a crowd very quickly is soccer now Maybe at the World Cup level because of the intensity of the crowds You're seeing winning streaks at Aztecca. There's no other sport that has seven year winning streaks at a home stadium. I'm watching this World Cup There is no question that being on our soil has elevated our team. If this game was In Belgium, I don't think we win. No yes. I think Seattle is absolutely worth half a goal of a goal. I really do. Well it's interesting because, you know, you saw Pulisic on the sideline yesterday just trying to fire the crowd up. Let's hear it. and people are going crazy. You're not getting that overseas. Hell Canada advance to the knockouts and want a game. Well, Canada, what have they ever done in the World Cup And now you get got a couple home games. you're on US. soil now and it's like, oh my gosh, Mexico at home, rolling I mean, I think homefield is a lot, Colin. This is just What a great jly. All right, let's move back to the NBA and this Jayalen Brown trade to the Sers I didn't realize how big of a blockbuster it was. We're at the point now that the Sixers, according to the athletic, are expressing interest in LeBron James. Now there's a couple layers to this, Colin For starters, I'm just going to ask is LeBron he's still good. twenty one, seven and six or whatever you average Is he at this stage going to be like A difference maker to put someone over the top. if you're like top four ast Oh, wait, wait makes you w. Okay. So you doing that? Well, in Philadelphia, so here's what you have in Philadelphia Youth Maxie explosive, yum Edgecb, crazy explosive, Yng Jayen Brown Prime Super athletic, that usually translates to if you do get hurt, you recover faster. You're gonna get a lot of games from those guys. One of the things that hurts LeBron in L.A is Austin Reevess durability issues Luca's durability issues For LeBron too go to a Tita, you could say MBad's got issues Absolutely fair. But if you told me Edgecomb, Maxie Brown and LeBron This team, I think athletically would protect him and beads a Rim prrotector would protect LebBron I don't think there's any question LeBron in Philadelphia. Interesting. would be a really good fit. R I did not anticipate you going there. So my question would be Maxi is like a thirty point a game guy in the playoffs. He's extraordinary offensively Jaalen Brown's going to eat at some of that. and you know Joellelenbede, if he's healthy, he's going to want the ball. because Joeln Bed feels like it's his team. Wh team is it going to be if LeBron shows up? Well, ye. I mean, J. You know it's Wendby's team. You know it's SGA's team. It's Jalen Brunson's team I don't know who the guy is'. No listen, this is a very fair question The only downside to Jayen Brown to the Sixers. and I think it's the only downside. You can say the contract's big, but VJ Ed Combe is free basically for four years. Right? So you're paying, you know, you got a freebie there who's an all star ish level Gifted player So my take is, and it's a very legitimate criticism, this matters in the NBA. I don' think it I don't think it should, but it does. Jayen Brown clearly viewed himself as a one. I think he is a one I think Tatum's a better one, but it's inches not feet It's like when LeBron went to Miami. Bosch had been a one. It was D Wade City and LeBron and reportedly after about three practices, D Wade went It'its LeBron's team. That's not LeBron now. LeBron's not at that level. although he' not that far off But I do think The tension will be Brown just averaged thirty points. He's not going to twenty two And Maxi is still an ascending great player. He' not going to nineteen and Edgecomb is just damn good. he's going to create points. So will there be a little Um, I don't even I don't want to over hype it But I do think that's a real thing in the NBA. I think I don't think that's a football thing or a baseball thing. usually because it's just the quarterback, right? in the NFL. the quarterback runs a show. after the game, the media goes to the quarterback And that guy sets the agenda for the kind of the narrative. Colin, after the game, who are you going to? You go to Maxie? you go to Brown and Bede I think this is a real thing. the sixixers. It's not going to be easy. Nick Nurse has has a tall order here. Yeah, I'm not I'm not saying it's easy. I will say this. is that I don't think Jalen Brunson is the most talented Nick. I think OG is. Jayen Brunson is viewed as the closer justust because of his guile, his toughness, his smarts, his ability to kind of Steve Nash get a shot off despite smaller size It'll be interesting to watch The Sixers, who's your closure No, I could argue I What'll make them lethal? If I'm Nick nurse, I can argue, you don't know who my clothes were. I can go to MBed. I can go to Brown. I can go to I got three closers. I think you can sell that to your team. But if you go on a seven game losing streak that's a harder s If you're winning you can change closers. I think when you if you struggle in Philadelphia may not struggle. If I told you MBed played fifty eight games, you know this teams out right. You know this is the top three se in the East. Yeahally Where are we on LeBronch? It works with the sixixers? you think he does so. But is that the best fit for him? I know know this's a different question. Well he wants he wants to play with good players. He's not going somewhere to lose. So I don't I don't think he could go to the spurs, right? I just that doesn't seem I don't Let me show man. just listen. And this is not a knock on Rich Paul or LeBron This is Weemby's franchise. Yeah, I don't think it's gonna work. If LeBron went there and they won a title LeBron would get a lot of credit and probably deservedly so. I don't think you do that to Wamby. I think it's his franchise. Yeah. And again, I know this is harsh. We like LeBron Con, I just don't know that he moves the needle anywhere right now. I know that sounds harsh. Weird, findind the team Philelphia He is when has LeBron ever played with scores and doesn't get them the ball in appropriate spots. He is one of the best passers in this league for twenty years. He not as flashy as magic LeBron is an absolutely a class distributor. You go watch LeBron highlights. When LeBron passes, if you ever noticed this, it's never a guy's feet It is literally en shooting. But when he plays with bigigs, what do they become Go to the three point line and make me shots, Kevin L loveve, Chris Bosch.. I don't want you clogg in the lane. Could I argue MBed likes to shoot outside more than I'm comfortable with anyway? I mean, honestly,' comfortable outside. Yeah It's a good. You're right. No MB loves to drift outside. Anthony Davis didn't, but MBed loves to drift outside. LeBron. Yeah. I' Anthony Davis is the best big LeBron' played with. You're right. Yeah That's fair inside. All right, final story calling is Caleb Williams, your guy in Chicago. He's talking about completion percentage. That was a big knock on him last year. fifty eight percent One of the worst in the league. H he is on a podcast, Caleb talking about his completion percentage and how he needs to improve Obviously I want to get that up, get the completion percentage up But some of the things that that I do that I do on the field is it negatively impacts that. so We'll get it up this just to shut everybody up. So we'll get it We'll make everybody's heart feel warm. and lovely and it' also help us, you know, in the long run of winning games . He's right down there with JJ. McCarthy inompletion percentage He was, It's just a fact. I'm sorry. The greater the horsepower, the less concerned I am with your completion I. I'm joking by if he got to be if he got to sixty one and a half percent I mean, first of all He went into last season. we were concerned about sax. He didn't get saacked I mean, literally We were concerned about, okay, will he be good late and g? He was great. L was great. He made huge leaps last year. He didn't improve on everything. but of the five things that needed worked, he was better at four. And I think this will be the year that he cleans it up and gets the sixty two percent. When are we getting your USC guy Caleb Williams on the show, Colin He's a big deal. He is It's not easy to get on the shop There's nothing against him. He's just busy. He's gotuff going on. He's the Chicago Bears quarterback. It's kind of the big deal. A Jay M back for the News. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The HeD liive.
