You're super starred I'm right around the corner. Super star and the crowd goes wild. No it is. Well tell me all about it buddy yesterday I was walking out of the building and we were looking all around all day long and we figured you were at least going to get struck by lightning once or twice . How was your experience traverse world cup friendly yesterday? Yeah, I got to work it. They gave me a microphone as the Eng land's men's national team is taking on Costa Rica for a little pre tune up World Cup tournament friendly . It was breathtaking. It was stunning. It was it honestly feels like a fever dream. Really? Well, there are just some of those players and I'll I know it's not for everyone, but I've been following Jordan Henderson for the better part of the last eight years and there he was right there in front of me. What's who is the I don't mean this in a disrespect you? Don't worry. I don't mean I don't mean this in a disrespectful manner but you would know this person before I would. Who is this albino looking dude that is everybody's talking about? I don't even know who he plays for but he',s this giant like chic white dude and apparently he is a terminator esque kind of player. Do you know who I'm talking about maybe? Well, there is a player with the nickname Terminator and I believe you're talking about Erling Holland. Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking that maybe is him. He plays for Norway. He has a gigantic ponytail. Yeah, he's got a little Hey you guys energy . What is his name ? He does have a little Hey you guys energy Earling Holland. Perfect way to put it. Yeah , I don't want to just dominate this first segment here, but Jim, there it was, it was a very special day for me. I've been following the sport internationally for the last twenty years and I know what a thick guy or edge . Yeah, yeah, what I know just England fans they go hard. There's literal movies about it. Yeah . And there were so many wins between me and the England fans. I love it, man. There was two losses what were the two losses? Are you guys ready for this? Yeah . All right . Yeah, look at that Neanderthal. Look at it. That guy's mon aster. Erlene Holland is a scary looking man. Yeah . I am in front of the England fans and it's going good. Sweet Caroline is playing Da we're having a blast right and all of a sudden, man, I just I hear it breakout one person, two people , I can't say their chance, so I'll do my best, but they start going like S O and Wilson , S Owen Wilson. Oh, S . Owen Wilson. They thought you were Owen Wilson? They're not saying it's, there's I'm censoring myself S . Oh , they're calling me the S version of Owen Wilson. Oh, that's funny.. Hearing Yeah . I have never felt so knighted. It is. That's great. You said give them a little bit on the mind a little on the wind. Thank you. I did not. I didn't give him a no. It was absolutely unreal real mountains by this English national. Oh, they would have you lost my mind. I know. Because I can only do the impression really quietly. Oh need out of here. You had a microphone. That's not gonna translate live in front of twenty thousand people who are screaming England England . So it was overwhelmingly an England or an English crowd to it. Yes, we were told to treat it like a home team for England, but guess what? Jim, this is all right, that was the first loss, but guess what ? I looked at the fans and I said I wish I was Owen Wilson. Yeah, I think that's a loss. I mean that's on you. That's kind of cool. I think it's hopefully they're not just talking specifically nose. I think they're also talking, you know, hair and overall vibe because anybody was like, dude, owen Wilson's nose. I'd be like, and what else? Yeah . Yeah, I wouldn't want that . But so the other part of the England fans all of a sudden when that's happening, I even make a j oke on the mic going. I just want to say thank you to the England supporters for letting me know that I am a bad version of Owen Wilson . So I got, you know, I kind of yeah got in there a little bit. Got my banter on a little bit, having a blast and then Jim, there was just one moment. There's a moment, me, Samrina, we are right there in front of the England fans and we're having a blast and I see this guy and he's got the Bagger Vance hat. You know what I'm talking about? Yeah, yeah. He's older. Yeah . He's kind of, I'll be honest with you, little bit of an older British you. Okay, I like this already. Right. You're shorter, but the same weight. Oh, okay. Okay, yeah. Okay. Here's a little ratoon. Okay , and all of a sudden he looks at me and goes, F off , F off F off. He told you to f off for no reason all of a sudden backwards peace signs by boom right there in front of me. I'm getting I'm getting hitit with the Brish FUN for no reason for no reason. I couldn't tell you to be honest with you. I have no idea, but it's so I look at it . I'm such a kid in the candy shop. I'm like, this is awesome. It's like it's like back to like Don Rickles taking a shot at you. You're like, Oh God awesome. Oh, well that his wife taps him on the shoulder to be like, What's wrong? That's what I thought she was tapping on the shoulder. But as soon as the husband looks at the girl, the wife and this guy's probably like mid sixties and looks at his wife and goes tells him and explains it and then the wife looks at me and she starts going f off. Oh my god. Two people bleed into four people. Four people bleed into twelve quick because it's like a school fish. Oh yeah if one's doing it the others just kind of get in there like lemmings Yeah one fish goes left well guess what some of the fish are also gonna just go real fast, I think at its most, there's about a fifty person all of a sudden get move. They're all saying screw you to you . And we don't know why. Not really. It's the Owen Wilson thing . Did we ever find out why? Everything else went really well. Like I partied with them during the game, but there was that one moment and I loved every second of it. I don't know, man. That's awesome. I don't know if I English abuse. Well, I had a great experience though. That's kind of cool. It was phenomenal. Yeah, and you get to work it. You weren't even in the stands was just even better. You're closer to the action. I was right next to Jude Bellingham. I was right next to Harry Caine. those And words I never thought I would ever say. That's so crazy. And they're wearing them next to Harry Caine. Yes They were wearing the three lions. They're usually shaved. It's like the first time the England's men's national team has ever played in Orlando or been in Orlando for twenty years or maybe ever . And it's just I understand the World Cup is not for everybody, but the one thing that should be for everybody is our great country and our country right now has a great opportunity of being a really likeable host and so far I gotta say so good . So good. Very nice. The Europe an mind can't contain all right . Well, we throwing down at a gas station? All right, four hundred seven nine six one hundred and four one text us at seven seven zero three one was having a conversation with somebody yesterday and I we mentioned being a lawyer and he said he goes you don't have to have a degree to be a lawy er in Florida. Now I did not look this up because I did not want to know because he quoted the whole Kim Kardashian thing out in California. She didn't go to law school or did you go to law school? I did. She did. I know some states all you have to do is pass the bar. Right. If you do that, you could be a lawyer. And that's my question. Like in this state, I mean, is that the case? If you just went to the library or hopped online and you got a syllabus where you could study where you know, it kind of it kind of guided you toward what discipline of law you wanted to handle. You went in there, you studied, you studied, you studied and you took the bar and you passed it. Theoretically, you could not have a degree in law and still practice law in this state. I know a guy just got arrested for misrep misrepresenting himself as an attorney at a traffic stop. Yeah, I saw that. I know you can't fly a plane without a license. Well, that's in Canada. We know that. I would imagine, I mean, I assume in most places actually . Yeah, yeah. I would hope in most places, Jack , that you have to be a piloted or licensed pilot to get behind the jet. Yeah, 'cause we're all involved in that sentence. Yeah , I actually I told him I said, look, I'm going to save this tomorrow for. I'm not going to look this up . I said, Don't do it either. Listen to the show and we'll find out. We have the smartest listeners out there and these guys will certainly find that out. If in Florida, do you have to have a degree to be a lawyer or could you just go and self educate at libraries or online and still practice law legally? I don't know who would I don't know who would you hire somebody that did that? Yeah . Would you hire a lawyer that did not have a degree but yet maybe had a glowing record but did not go to law school . They just got their degree on their own. Isn't it? Would that be more difficult? Yeah, no, I think it shows a go get her attitude. Yeah, yeah. I think there's a tenacity involved and approvaleness, I respect. Yeah,. and you gotta be smart I mean, obviously you have to be able to retain this stuff. You have to be able to apply it in real time. And I think they're you said they had a good record. Yeah, I would just assume they had a good record right. I would think that would really speak for itself , but yeah, but still though, you walk into a lawyer's office and you don't see any of the stereotypical degrees or hanging up there in general conversation you ask, hey, I don't see your degree and you usually lawyers are super proud of their of their degrees and what 's your degree and because I didn't get one dude. I just went online and figured it out and they took the bar and passed it. You ready to go forward with your case? Yeah man, I good will hunting it. You know what I prefer to see on the wall like a nice wistful Thomas Kinkade painter? Do you really? Yeah , the painter of light? Yes . I mean those things are beautiful. I think you're probably not gonna find one of those in a lawyer's office of all the places. No way. I would trust the lawyer that would be like, yeah, I'm really good at it. So I just skipped the school part. I don't know, man. Really? I mean, we know we've seen athletes do that and be the best out there. That's athletes are different. Yeah, very different. That's cool. That's the most black and white like competition and form of communication, I think. I got a ring race in the No, I'm bringing up the fact that there's numbers. You can tell when a person wins a race. Yeah. That England match is really rubbing off and even that how I worded that sounded bad. All right, four hundred seven nine six one hundred four, text seven seven zero three one. We got a couple really interesting like perfect question topics to get to today plus a bunch of other stuff as well. Deb get somes news. Yeah, President Trump cancels strikes on Iran. Closer to home, a lawsuit demands a wording change to the property tax measure , and at least one hotel employee has that FIFA fever. We'll talk about that and more coming up next during JCS News. You gotta take a little break, we'll come back and get Deb's news and do more of the Jim Corporate Jostay right there. And think about it. When it comes to your own food, you can walk into a restaurant, see what's being made and know exact ly what you're getting. But with dog food, most brands keep that completely hidden . Just food for dogs does the opposite. They've built their entire brand around open kitchens. You can actually walk in and watch them prepare your dog's meals with real human grade ingredients like chicken, beef, carrots, and peas cooked right there in front of you. No mystery, no behind the scenes you're not allowed to see. That kind of transparency is rare in the pet food world, and it's a big reason they've become the number one vet recommended fresh dog food, earning trust from pet parents who want to feel confident in what they're feeding. When a brand is willing to show you exactly how your dog's food is made, it says a lot about the care, quality, and standards behind every meal they produce . Nothing to hide, everything to love. Hey everyone, it's Cal Penn, host of Earsay The Audible and I Heart Audio Bl ook Cub. This week on the podcast, I'm sitting down with Lily Chu, the author of the Audible Original Romantic Comedy Just Kiss Already. It's a story about a forensic anthropologist who secretly writes mystery novel s, an actress who adapts his book into a film, and what happens when a meme and a mediator collide with a slow burn romance ? It's performed by Simulu and Philippa Sue, and it is an absolute blast. When you actually hear the performance , you realize that other people aren't taking your words and what you thought was kind of a straightforward sentence like the cat in the corner is black . In my head, it's the cat in the corner is black, not the dog, not the derbil . But someone else might say it, the cat in the corner is black. That's always fascinating to me. How they just bring in all these different nuances and really make it fun and interesting and distinctive. I'm Jim'.s There Deb. Hello, Deb. And Ross with us today as well. Happy World Cup Day. You got it man. Let's get some news. Here's Deb . It's time for JCS news . Well, does this guy got to put his name on everything ? It's in my contract dude. Here's the news on the Jim Cober Show. And as always, JCS News is brought to you by that mortgage guy Don. President Trump is canceling new strikes on Iran. In a true social post this afternoon, the president said his decision is based on the fact that discussions with Iran, quote, have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, end quote. He went on to say that quote, final points have been in both concept and great detail approved by all parties involved. End quote, this comes after the U. S. and Iran have traded strikes throughout the week earlier today, Trump vowed to hit Iran quote very hard tonight end quote while also threatening to take over Iran's oil infrastructure point. I've also made that threat before. I bet you have. See, that's just like that canceled That's good news, but who knows by seven o'clock they could be something . Exactly. Let's see what the markets do. Fingers are gone fingers are crawling. The markets are way up so let's go. All right, in the meantime, a lockdown is over at the Pentagon after a reported hazardous material s incident , Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said normal operations have resumed nothing to see here . After testing confirmed no hazard existed, earlier, Parnell confirmed that systems within the Pentagon quote detected an air quality issue necessitating precautionary measures until we determine its significance. End quote. He said the department executed standard protection protocols as a result, some areas of the Pentagon were ev acuated due to the incidents. All right, back here closer to home, a decision by the Florida Supreme Court will have repercussions in November. The court announced yesterday it will not weigh in on the ist rerdicting debate as long as a lower court is considering an appeal . That means the map lawmakers approved and governor Ronda Santa signed will be in effect in the midterms this fall. Speaking of a voting, a complaint filed today demands the wording of the property tax referendum on November's ballot be changed. Weston city attorney Jamie Cole says the title of the measure save our homes from excessive property taxes as a slogan. So when we look at it as a whole, the vowel title and the vowel summary, it is basically a campaign slogan, a campaign flyer, it's inaccurate and it's misleading . Cole says the measure falsely claims that it will benefit Florida taxpayers, protect core services and small businesses . According to him, it does the opposite. Yeah, I can tell you what it is isn't, which a good microphone . This has been a hot topic. I know we talked about it a lot past couple of days. I was on I went I went to social media last night. Oh no I did. You mentioned winter spring. So I read not only the mayor's post and then the thread just how many people are just engaged on this topic and then I was talking to mortgage people today and just a lot of people with the city today. Yeah, yeah. Megan Slate is going to be with us next Wednesday. She's OVIO's mayor. So we'll find out what she has to say because their city's getting hit pretty good with it. I mean, even production companies, you know, and you think of all the people that provide staging and sound systems and all of these vendors that come out to this will have serious ripple effects with all of the things that cities do and the other vendors that they have to work with to execute things. Those businesses are going to be severely impacted as well. The main takeaway that I'm getting from the people who , whether they're either concerned or they're on the fence or they're against it is show us where the replacement money will come from. Exactly. You know, don't just say, oh, we got you, Talahasse wille take care . Just show us how are they going to cover these budget shortfalls? I posed that question to a couple people texting yesterday and they both are they both answered that's above my pay grade will youing to make the argument one way but not willing to accept or even listen to an argument the other way. And look, I again I'm on the fence and we'll talk to Slate Mayor Slate Wednesday after and if you want to hear Art Woodruff who is the mayor of Sanford's interview that's on our podcast now . Also something that we've talked about for several years doesn't seem to be improving because a stark traffic warning for commuters A new National Report says Florida holds how many out of the twenty seven most dangerous metropolitan areas for pedestrians in the country? thirty two See Ross that number is greater than twenty. twenty of them. Okay, that one for years we've been the most dangerous place to walk and ride a bicycle We have. All right, you say twenty out of twenty seven, Jack, what say you? Okay , I fear for my life when I ride. However, yeah, I think about you every time there's a cycling story. Thank you . But why you're weird. Thank you . But by your reaction, I'm going to go a little less. I'm going to go fifteen. Russia. I'll go five. Okay, pointss Ros. It's actually nine out of the twenty seven, but still for one state, right? Yeah . Miami Dade and Broward are listed as a major hazard zone while the Daytona Beach area ranks worst in the nation. Yeah . Worst . Well, you got all those beach goers. You've got A one A, you've got people speeding on A one A. They run them over on the beach over on the beach like every other weekend over there man. That's ridiculous. It's a good point. Again, experts blame high speed arterial roads and a severe lack of safe pedestrian crosswalks . I mean, it was really to be honest, it was only recently I learned that according to the law , it's not when a pedestrian is in the crosswalk you're supposed to stop, it's when they're on the sidewalk waiting to cross. That is the law. I think a lot of drivers assume like I did, they have to actively be in the process of crossing the road for you to have to slow down and stop for them and that's when you get popped by law enforcement. I had a the white light that says I could cross four hundred thirty four on my bike . I just started and a car came blowing . They ran that red light , but if I was ten feet ahead would have took me out. I mean, they didn't even slow for that red light and Jim's pissed that he missed . Sold my motorcycle because of traffic in this city. Yeah, like I stopped riding. My wife wouldn't ride with me anymore. And like I loved riding with my wife. So after she said, I can't ride on the bike anymore because I'm absolutely horrified we're going to get hit by somebody not paying attention.al I just sold it. I was like, Yeah, you're right, it sucks. I already had three indies to begin with. Well, I already told you I used to have a Nashiki that I was trying to race and of course I had the toe clips and then wrote it a few times on Kirkman and was like, yeah, no, we're gonna get rid of this here racing bike because I'm not doing toe clips on Kirkman. You should have just driven it on the race track . I feel you guys razor scooter. I had a wheelie bar and that thing could get you up . So I had I also had to retire my hog days Richard The city of Orlando has removed the iconic Pulse Nightclub sign days before the ten year anniversary of the mass shooting, which is tomorrow. Can you guys believe tomorrow it's been ten years already? Yeah. Crews began the multiday process of removing the sign on Wednesday. It's part of their plan to demo the site and build a permanent memorial dedicated to the victims and survivors of the june tw elfth, twenty sixteen massacre. The project is expected to be complete by the fall of twenty twenty seven. All right, this next story, just when you thought this unsavory story couldn't get any worse . Here we go. A seminal county teenager is facing child porn charges . The charges against Eltamont Springs's fifteen year old Isabelle Valdez come as she's already in jail for allegedly plotting to kill a classmate at Lake Brantley High School five months ago. She was one half of that that duo that ? Yes. The other one yep is the fourteen year old girl and they were recorded in the back of the patrol car joking about not having makeup on and what their mugshots gonna look like. You know, the worst part about this story that I heard today on Fox thirty five was the mother of the victim talking about and this makes me feel bad because you and I talk about our love for true crime all the time. Yes . But apparently that's becoming a real issue in schools today . The mother of the victim said she sees it with her son's friends with these two girls and it's almost like a cult like mentality. Again, these girls their plot was to kill a classmate who looked like the shooter at Sandy Hook. Right, yeah, yeah, because they were they were managed with and they were obsessed with him and they talked about how the true crime community was going to treat their crime. And so anyway , I knew we could bring it back to you guys being the reason for this . No, but I mean as a girl example as adults, you have to be kidding like I'm not a, I don't have kids and you 're kids are grown. So it's but they love murder shows. But they're grown. They're not fourteen and fifteen years old. For years and years true, crime has been one of the most popular podcasts for it without a doubt. You can make the argument that like kind of kick started podcast into that next world. I mean, some of the other popular ones. I mean, there's so many of them. This show. Yeah, absolutely. Well, out of the ten new charges she's now facing, this fifteen year old girl is probably never going to get out of prison for the rest of her life. The FDLE says , yeah, I'm going to just skip that part. Meanwhile, state law enforcement officials , including the state attorney general and the head of FDLE, joined a news conference in Okella to announce arrests in the latest child sex predator sting there. Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods says one suspect twenty six year old Patrick Han tried to meet someone he thought was a fourteen year old girl in a store bathroom. Let's just say it it didn't work out well for him . Now when my deputy showed up . He literally crapped in his pants. Oh scared him to death. Can we scare something out of him? Can we say for sure that Florida is the king of news clips . I mean there's there is Merch ant. There is no state that even comes close when it comes to news bills . There was that was that Arizona. Yeah, Arapaya got has been gone for a while. We've got like five heavy hitters in this shit . It's like the Florida sheriffs just was like we'll take what Acne is doing . Well get this you guys. The fifty eight suspects arrested during the six days sting include a Navy officer , a second grade teacher, a pop warner football coach, an elementary school teacher , and even a student I don't detectives posed as children aged seven to fifteen to their parents. Again, you know, to think like a predator, that's why they become , that's why they join these professions, become teachers, pediatricians , coaches because it gives them access to their drug . The sad part is I know how successful it must be for them online . Yes , considering how successful the bus are. Yeah , right. You would think if that was you were going to do that, think, oh, it's going to be a cop and you wouldn't do that, but three times. That's why when you talk about the recidivism rate of child of child predators, you know, it's near one hundred percent. I think it's in the in the high nineties. And one of the reasons I always find these things amazing is it's not like there's a shortage of information that chances are you're talking to a cop and they still can't do it. They still the urge is so great that they still can't fight the urge to possibly spend jail time as a chomo, which is the language I guess they use for them. Almost guaranteed a life of complete hell and they can't they can't stop themselves. But that even with all that on the table, they still go through with it. But that's also why parents need to be , you know, aware and just maybe have a little bit of a jaund ice eye around any adult that's around your child because you can't assume they went into that profession because they're quote unquote good people. I remember star. I remember so many people telling me like Ross before after you have a kid, movies are gonna be different. You know what? I have found out to be even more different than anything else is news stories. Yeah, just like hearing change news stories because you guys are parents. I took a line out of the previous story because I'm like, No, no, no, no, no need to hear. I'm not going to read I'm not, going to tell that too. And that's good because not only are we parents, but thousands of people listening right now and you're right, it's those stories like that, like just movies where kids get hurt, it just it's something that I just can' cant't watch. I either walk you're a parent. That San Lucci movie with that nope. The lovely bones. Oh thank you. Oh yeah. Oh , try reading the book. Yeah, no thanks. Yeah, try reading the book. Again, we're trying to a bad example. Stop it . No, I mean, if you think that's bad, dude. And we tell you what, not just the regular book, the illustrated version of it. And she told Jim to read the book. Reading the book. Don't read the color version. I'm not gonna gloss over the fact that Dev just goes Yeah, try reading the book. Yeah. Well, I didn't know what to expect. Oh yeah, because yeah, I don't know what to expect. The movie's awful. I've never been able to see the movie. Like the fifth time I saw it . All right. Florida remains largely in drought, but conditions are improving slightly in some areas. The U. S. drought monitor map shows the highest levels dropping from about fifty three percent of the state to around thirty one percent. That's a nice drop. The worst category known as exceptional drought has also shrunk significantly. However, areas of severe drought have expanded to nearly forty percent of the state as dry conditions persist, but Noah forecasters are issuing an El Nino advisory saying thresholds have been met for equatorial Pacific Sea surface temperatures. Good job on that Oh my god, you should get Disney tickets for that. I should have gotten a don for that. Mark that Sorry . And those warmer water shifting towards South America, National Weather Service, Miami Meteorologist Chuck Caracoza says for Florida, that means more than just fewer hurricanes . Heading into the winter months, it typically associates with a more wetter pattern with higher chances of severe thunderstorms , stronger thunderstorms during that time frame. So chances are also more than sixty percent likely that a very strong or what they call super elnino could form, which could lead to dangerously high temperatures like in twenty twenty four when the record was smashed for the world's highest average temperature . And unfortunately, while it drops the chances for our Atlantic hurricane season, it ups the chances for the Pacific. Yeah, of course we're talking to Noah Bergen today from Fox thirty five to explain exactly how that may affect our weather over the summer. Well he's our Noah weather today good one Jader nice Good one. All right, new state records released just this morning show a massive spike in alligator rem ovals at Florida's biggest theme park. Data from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission reveals that trappers have pulled four hundred and fourteen nuisance alligators from Walt Disney World property over the last ten years. I saw that number today and I'm like, damn. Well, that's ever since that little three year old boy. I mean, you guys remember this weekend, ten years ago was one of the worst weekends in all of Central Florida. You had Christina Grimmy. That ten year annivers ary was exactly. And then you have the Pulse Nightclip shooting . And then that Sunday the little boy was snatched out of the water at one of the Disney resorts. Right. So the aggressive safety program again was launched following the tragic death of that toddler at the resort back in twenty sixteen and state officials say the ongoing alligator sweeps are necessary to protect the millions of tourists flooding into central Florida every summer and you even see it on out the springs and stuff. People just treat the natural world like it is a theme park and at a theme park. You might think it's an animatronic Yeah I'll never forget that when Disney they pulled the like the not the Robinhood, but hangs out with Tinker Bell . Peter Pan the Peter Pan Alligator Crocodile , there was like a meme greet for that character and then after that happened they pulled that perform at the war. Even at the end of that ride, isn't he straddling the giant crocodiles ? Oh, that's right, that's right. How many did they pull ? four fourteen over the last ten years . Where do they go? They're in the universal . Okay, real quick. Extra eyes are on the World Cup host city, Miami as the soccer tournament officially kicks off this afternoon. Miami Beach police chief Wayne Jones says security is a top priority with the official kickoff watch party and Carlos Vees concert at Miami Beach's Lumis Park that got kicked off it too but list,en to this security . We have a state of the art real time intelligence center and so from the moment a person comes across one of our bridges , cause into the city, we will see what you do. So make it worth there looking FIFA fan festival opens on Saturday at downtown Miami's Bayfront Park. It's expected to draw up about thirty thousand people a day through july fifth. And then finally a security guard in Miami Beach is facing felony burglary charges. Police have arrested thirty three year old Carlos Mendoza, a Grand Beach Hotel Guard after surveillance footage, showed him allegedly using a master key to break into a guest room , you can imagine, right? So many international travelers so much money . But he didn't take cash or jewelry. What do you think he took? Food ? No. Underwear? No. Oh, Jesus . Condoms . No., pictures I'm disappointed in you, Ross. Yeah, me too. Why? Because he stole an official FIFA referee uniform. Belonging to a soccer official visiting South Florida, the uniform uniform has since been returned. Wow, that'd be kind of dangerous, right? Using a uniform to get on the field and do something stupid? I thought it was gonna fill in for that one official that they wouldn't let him get exactly.. Yeah I got this. Did you see the official that referee the Somalian referee goes back to Somalia and he's like given a hero's welcome? Yeah. Well, yeah, I mean, we're here for you . And you know what's funny is that even if you got the, you know, you still reffing, people hate refs. It doesn't matter where you're at. So that whole story's a paradox. And that concludes your JCS news. All right, four hundred seven nine one six one test us at seven seven zero three one back in one sect with more of the Jim Colbert . I really had to make the decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections and it's like okay yo y o is this indulgent ? I And really thought about it. I was like, No, at this point, it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that deeply emotion ally affected me and I left it on the mic. That's great it served the story. People will say like, Oh my God, I cried at the end. Not being able to take the bar exam without a law degree sounds like a rule that was made up by a bunch of people that spent their entire lives playing for and then paying for a formal education that they don't want to get vote raced by some guy who just got fed up one day and went and took the bar exam to fight them. Yeah . Also, the send and try again button on talk backs need to be separated . Hey guys, I hope you guys are doing well. You guys are talking about lawyers and having law degrees and stuff like that. I hear this attorney on Glen Clausman's section of the radio. He's a southern gentleman and he sounds pretty good. I'd use him as my attorney. Thanks. Bye I've never been accredited by any official literally anything ever we believe got his degree in a laundromat . But he'll be here later today. The only degree that I have is deodorant. Welcome back to the Gym Corporate show. I'm Jim there's Deb. Hello, Jack. Yep, and Faticus. Smelling nice. Oh, stanky Faticus over there for sure. Smelling nice, not stanky. Saw a piece today I thought was kind of interesting and it was an argument because you know, restaurant prices are high. People are kind of, you know, complaining. Things are expensive, very expensive. So the article was in on in all caps. Yeah, it was nobody's yelling. No, it was an argument. It was a debate in this the debate was , you know, there's something there's an under there's an underlying issue here that people aren't considering. He says, look, I've been an analyst for restaurants for a while, you know, trying to get those guys streamlined into making sure the profit margin s are good, making sure they're buying from the right people, their vendors are good , that their employees are good, you know, just basically , you know, just making their businesses more efficient through advice and analyzing the information coming into the restaurant. He said, look, of course, food prices are definitely part of that, but there is another reason why the restaurant business is really suffering right now. Want to take a shot at what they may be? Okay, so it's not food prices. Not food prices or anything like that according to this guy why people are not going . Well, why restaurants aren't doing that well? Yeah, I'm gonna say no man workers like they can't get people to do what they want staffing issues . I'm going to go a cliente. I'm going to say ooh , well we did talk earlier about the fact right that Gen Z they're going to dinner earlier that they're like the early bird special kids and they don't drink when they go and have dinner. I think it's an Uberit's generation. It definitely is an Uber each generation, but even then the restaurant would get the ticket, right? They would sell sell the food, right? Ozypmic GOP one's they he says that if you look at the analytics , even the regulars that come in when you consider like one in six people or one in a five out of or six out of ten people in the U . S. are using some form of GLP one to lose weight that even if the regulars come in, their check tab is twenty to thirty percent cheaper than it was when they were when they were not taking GLP once . So even though those people are still going to the restaurants they're not buying as much. They're not eating as much . They're sharing plates, they're sharing an appetizer. They're not getting the big steak anymore. They're buying the smaller portion dishes and and when you consider the volume of people that are on these GLP ones, you could certainly see that would be the case. You gotta adjust, right? Yeah, you got to adjust, I guess. I'm a tapest place. I was gonna say yeah, you go with smaller bites, maybe higher quality ingredients with a little bit of a bigger price. Ross used to do his normalized normalized sharing entres or something. You do that, don't you? That's what we do now. Actually, because both of us don't eat as much as we used to. So when we get to restaurants, we will usually get an appetizer that we enjoy. And that happens with H. Right. Does it really it does I'm in the same damn boat and we share the entree and then we get a dessert. So we wind up saving ourselves usually twenty five to forty dollars whatever it is based on the entree we'd be buying. Are you so you're not on a you're not I'm not on a GLP one. No. No, Zempic. No. You thought about it? Is it obvious ? Is that your on it? Is that the joke you're trying to get to that I'm not on it? It's obvious. No, you look good. I was just wondering if you were on it. No, I wouldn't take one th.ough Why not? I just don't I don't do stuff like that, dude. I just don't do it. I've never taken or been on years ago actually, let me take that back. When we first started the show, I took I was part of a weight loss thing because it was a good client. I needed the money to be dad honest with you . And you know, it it did okay, but I wasn't really committed to it, but you know, and I kind of felt the same way , you know, where it's like, okay, do I want to take that to lose weight? And there was for lack of a better term, an icky feeling about it. Like I was like, I don't know, it felt like if I hadn't tried my best without it then is that kind of taking a shortcut , but the benefits they are talking about the side effects the side effects are so positive that it might just be smart medication for your overall health. Well, Mayam Balaya Big Bang theory does blossom as well back in the bank blossom as well as Jeopardy Stint. She took it once. Oh and it blanked her up and it blanked her up. She said she had dehydration, she had to have IV fluids. She took one dose and she said she felt the effects immediately. Stop taking the medication and that's my fear, Jack. My fear is that you end up being that one person that ends up with like debilitating side effects and it doesn't necessarily take that long for that to happen. And you I've heard that you have to keep taking it that motivate the weight comes back . Most people who stop taking it revert right back to their old eating habits and gain the weight right back. I think they're working I. saw something about how they're changing that, but also I learned another side effect that's for some people like a brain fog, but it changes the things you have interest in the person they were focusing on was a Cubs fan lived and died by the Cubs. And then when he was on it and taking it really didn't it's air it's a loss of interest in general because I say it all can factor down to sex it can, factor down to rel ationships. I put too much money into miniatures. It factors into all these things. You just kind of lose interest in stuff. That said, they said he adjusted his medication and that interest came up. Very nice. All right, so that's a pretty big side effect . Not for everyone. Skinny but I hate everything . I just say it's like because I had to say feeling I'm like, is it cheating? Is I know? And if you take it good for you, if it works, that's wonderful you are healthier today because of it. However , you know, if there's other benefits as well, maybe we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss. And not only exactly, but then there's the other fact ors. There's ozempic face. Oh yeah, ozemic face. Have you heard of ozempic face? Ozempic butt. That's right. You know, where you lose so much weight so quickly that you just have all the skin that hangs on you because you're not losing weight naturally and your body isn't getting that time to adjust. And as many you look like you got Starship Trooper . And the funny thing is now you won't even get credit for losing weight the right way because if you come up, you lose little weight, people are going to automatically ask you which one is it? What did that were like Obi or you zip? And then when they say no, that's not a list of all he won't admit it. Yeah exactly. They don't admit it, four seven nine one six one hundred four one, text us at seven seven zero three one for the full list of side effects, CRAD and golf digest . You know, I know there's been a lot of overtone Keyson Ross calling you fat . Whoa. You know, I'm pointing this finger at myself too. It ain't fat, bro. We're just well fed. Yeah, man, that's all there is to it. Amohawk. I'm just extra healthy. As I used to say in high school, I'm just big boned. Yeah, right here. If you look at somebody and go, are you on Ozempic? Yeah that is kind of a compliment. Is it really? All right, very good. Somebody ever says it to me, I'll let them know. All right, welcome back to the Jim Corporate show. four point one I'm Jim Devon Ross are here as well . Let's do some Chloe G time. If it's happening in Central Florida, it's on her radar, giving you a reason to get off the couch and out of the house. It's time to find out what there is to see with Chloe G from the Orlando Weekly. Labor, Chloe G. That intro makes me feel so famous. This is the highlight of your weekend . Nobody gets an introduction like that. How you are doing Chloe, good to see you? I have a lot of fun stuff to go over for this week. I'm really excited . I am going to kick us off with an event tonight actually. So getting an early start on the weekend . Comedian David Jolly is perform ing at the Funny Bone Comedy Club tonight. This is not the David Jolly running for governor for Florida. He actually is also from Florida, the comedian, and he largely got his start performing in Orlando Comedy Club. So this is kind of like a homecoming show. He recently gained a pretty big following for the skits that he does about kind of like exaggerated everyday workplace situations and characters he throws in there . He has he now is relocated to Austin and touring nationally, but tonight's his homecoming . One of our writers at the Weekly actually interviewed him ahead of his show and he's clearly very in love with Orlando's comedy scene and has a lot of passionate for it. So I think that's going to make for a very big or very very great show . So that is tonight at the Funny Bone at seven PM and tickets start at twenty seven dollars.. Very nice Yeah, we talked to Dave a little bit yesterday. He's an old friend of ours. Yeah, a really good guy. And yeah, go to the show tonight. He's awesome. Yeah, I've thrown up drunk behind a car with David Jolly and he made me into a man. Yeah, right. That's how you know it's gonna be a good night. Yeah . He's sober now, by the way, I should clarify that . He'll still be funny. It's okay. Also today , the World Cup kicked off . So Orlando and its surrounding neighborhood s are going to be littered with watch parties for the next few weeks. Some big ones that I'm going to highlight right now are at sports and social . This is one of the bars within Point Orlando on iDrive. It's that big entertainment venue that has a bunch of venues, a bunch of arts inside of it . They are going to be showing every single match from now until july nineteenth, is what they're saying on the screens that cover the walls inside . And then it's not just going to be that the games are kind of passively on. They're also going to do like a watch party atmosphere for every single match. There's going to be drink specials, giveaways , contests, and then they're doing a match day warm up set of specials before every game starts with really cheap drinks. Three dollar beers. Cocktail. Oh, that sounds like a couple dollars for a shot. Oh my god, almighty. That's like you're making a drink and the drink is a fight.. Yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And there'll be food too so, you know, you can like cushion yourself a little bit. If you have a team you're rooting for, watch parties. Like I'm like, oh, I could just watch it at home. But I was watching all of these clips of Nick's watch parties from ninety band after that win and it was just like it's just the excitement level is off the chase really is. I was lucky to go to one watch party back in ' ninety four when it came around and it was completely insane. Nine in the morning with a bunch of England fans and it was a blast. It really was. And I wasn't even really into soccer at all, but that party was great. Yeah, no, the crowd and the atmosphere, wherever you're watching definitely makes it for sure. Another one I want to highlight is at the Final Whistle at Thornton Park Pub . So this is a soccer themed pop up bar that just started earlier this year to kick off Orlando City season , but they are extending it through the summer for the World Cup. So they have matches playing on all the screens inside with the sound on . The whole bar is decked out in Orlando City and Orlando Pride and some other soccer team mem orabilia. They have kits hanging from the ceiling, there's banners everywhere. They're gonna do food and drink specials all throughout the tournament. Okay , and that is happening in Thornton Park pretty much every day through the nineteenth. We also Orlando Weekly has a long list available of all the other watch parties around town and beyond. Orlando Weekly. com orlandoec . com we got some in Sandford Lake, Mary Mount, Dora, a ton in the core of Orlando. Harp and Kelt is a really big one. Left Lucky Leprechon is a really big one. ALA Carte, they're all doing really big watch parties, events, specialty drinks and food. It'll be a whole thing for the whole month. Very nice. Very nice. Even more drinking we have alright , you seem very irritated with us . This sweet Chloe just even more drinking. Oh God, I'm really I'm really alcohol forward today. I'm gonna tell you how alcohol . I love that. She's like a she's like a mom. Oh, more drinking . I think she just named the show today. It was just alcohol forward exactly I'm feeling alcohol forward myself. I'm just be safe. All right, very lot of drinks. What's your favorite drink real quick? Oh, tequila soda. Tequila and soda. Yeah. All right, very nice on tequila now it starts to taste like water. Oh yeah, yeah. What's her go to tequila? Ooh, Espalone. All right, all right, very nice. She knows. So the Pride and Proud pub crawl is happening in Thornton Park this week for Pride month . So there will be drag shows and hopping from bar to bar all over the area. So burtons, cavos, the outpost, the dust , every bar crawler is going to get a going to are going to get four drink tickets and then there's going to be a big after party at the bar anthem after the crawl kind of wraps up. So that is on Saturday. It starts at six PM and it just goes into the night t.ick Andets for this crawl start at twenty two dollars. All right, not bad. Yet another pub crawl. Oh my god, almighty. So this one is the I think you're making a statement about how you feel about our audience. She has plans to do it this weekend. This all seems like fun stuff. This one you're gonna love though. So this is a dress like a dad pub crawl. I'll just leave for more exactly Harris calls it going out . YouTube bitch. I don't want to hear it. Dad as I am, yeah. Yeah , listen, we've got two different styles. Okay. That's it. Marsters are talking about it today and every image they said looked just like what Ryan Holmes wears on a deli base . Yeah, maybe it's just like a, you know, like third roll seat of a monster's thing that you have to wear a golf shirt. For sure. Yeah, so this is happening in Court Curry Ford West. This is an annual crawl that they do where attendees dress like a dad. So there's a lot of socks and sandals, a lot of bucket hats, like polo shirts, fl owery button down, t shirts tucked into khaki shorts. Regret yeah, socks with sandals. Yeah, socks with crocs. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah , ladies and self respect. A lot of jet. I can wear my dad around my ne ck This year's tagline is cold beer, bad outfits, and great decisions. All right, very nice. And neck dead. Yes. And neck dead. So you'll hit a bunch of bars in the area. There's going to be drinks and food, there's going to be raffle prizes, there will be a costume contest, so really like think out this sock and sandal combination. And then there's going to be a dad joke contest as well . The event is going to be a fundraiser for the nonprofit that supports the district's local business community, which is Court Curry Ford West Inc. . And the crawl is six to eleven PMickets. T are fifteen dollars in advance and twenty dollars there and it's going to kick off at Charlie's bakery from five to seven and then the vintage chair from seven to ten. Ask the question Ross is that down is that where Pizza Berno is in that area? Is that the same area of curry Ford or no? I believe so. Okay, so that there's an Irish bar down there too, right? Yes, yeah, yeah. It's right there on the corner, but I can't remember the name of the cloud out cottage cottage. Yay ' thats's a a that big they've been there for a long time. Dude, that's a killer little spot. I hear no one ever talking about my buddy turn me on that joint and not only is it a cool spot, the food there's bananas good. Yeah, I know they always get really excited for, of course, their St. Patrick's Day. We always kind of like them in our roundups of where to drink green beer . So I know they're really excited about that . All right, so that is the dress like a dad pub crawl on Sunday on Mills Avenue, there's going to be a hot dog eating contest at Dirty Laundry, which is the outdoor patio bar kind of behind Lil Indies . So that's going to start at one PM on Saturday , your ten dollars ticket at the door is going to get you one hot dog and one twisted tea. If you want to compete in the actual competition , you can go to their website to sign up beforehand. You have to be able to eat ten hot dogs in five minutes with or without the help of water . Disgusting and also they're encouraging you to dress up unspecified how hot dog content. Yeah I, don't know. I mean, yeah, I guess your best Joey chestnut Yeah, something fun. Something fun of options there. Yeah, yeah. Costume. Yeah, jean chores. Just wear jean shorts. Yeah, something good. Chloe, have you ever watched one of those before those competitive eating hot dogs like the Coney Island thing they don't forget horrible. I don't understand how they do. I literally cannot watch it. Yeah, no, it'll make me do you think you can eat ten hot dogs in five minutes? No way . I don't even want to think think do you you're gonna eat five hot dogs in five minutes? A hot dog a minute? I don't think I could eat five hot dogs in a day. You don't think so? No , but I think I could give up ten bucks for a hot dog in a twisted. No joke dude. No, for sure And then the Grand Prize is going to be a twisted tea branded cooler and then the event itself is benefiting the bounty food pantry. we're being wholesome here with this disgusting hot dog eating. Very good. Finally, my last event for you this weekend is going to be at the doctor Phillips Center on Sunday. They are hosting Opera Okie . So this is Opera and Karaoke mixed together. Oh , that's that's Jim. Yeah, that's all we're thinking. All right . So it's gonna be some of the singers from Opera Orlando performing opera takes on pop hits from throughout the year. That sounds fun . So opera but high energy, lots of dancing, lots of big dancing going on. There's going to be special games and prizes. Our music is coming from a variety of artists and bands, backstreet boys, Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson, Brittany Spears, Billy Joel, any popp y you can think of. So that's Sunday at five and seven thirty PM there's going to be two showings and tickets start at forty five dollars. Very nice. Yep, and that's what I have for you guys. Good job. Give it a job Look at that. There's a lot. There's a lot to drink. There's a lot to do. What's the busiest season for you guys when you just, you know, not special stuff like the best of or anything like that or the what is the busiest time of year for you? Is it holiday season? Like fall or is it spring? Fall is busy because it's always so packed with events. There's so much to do. There's always those big concerts in Orlando are happening throughout the fall. Also a lot of restaurant openings, big restaurant openings in the fall. Summer though , obviously because of Best of and there's also always so much because the tourism , people are going to the theme park there's just more people in Orlando so there's more to report on. Oh wow, crazy. All right, well we'll see you next week for sure. You guys give it up good laughing for Chloe G. You can read Hurry Pages of Orlandlando Weekly or oWecly. com. Always good to see you, Chloe. Thank you, you too. You got it. All right, four hundred seven nine six one four one. Text us at seven seven zero three one in a second we're going to talk to you Noah Bergen. He's from Fox ninety five or Orlando. find We out're gonna exactly what the super elmino is and how it's gonna affect this summer. We'll do that next. Hey everyone, it's Calpen, host of EarSave, the Audible and I Heart Audio Book Club this week on the podcast. I'm sitting down with divergent author Veronica Roth to talk about her sprawling new novel Seek the Traitor's Sun. It's a sci fi fantasy epic about two protagonists on opposite sides of a war and a prophecy neither of them wanted. My first book was Divergent and when that came out like because it was so popular, I think it attracted like mostly positivity, but the negativity I sucked in like a sponge. And I think it was like critiques of things I liked when I was like, you know, I was twenty three and I wrote this book and it had all my dorky little cheesy or maybe unrealistic loves in it and I started to feel a lot of shame about those things. And so for the rest of my career , I steered away from those little things that like make you feel pleasure when you read, but I also was like saying no to these parts of myself that I then was like, screw it. Yeah . So that's this book . Listen to Earsay, the Audible and IHA book club on theH AiRT radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Your pet is your bestie , your therapist. Your perfect match. Thanks for tuning in today. We appreciate that guys. Hope you're having a wonderful Thursday. I am Jim. There's Dev. Hello, Jack, yo and Ross. Let's talk you look at the news all day today all you're seeing is super el Ninjo El Nino how it's going to affect us as a as a people and I'm kind of interested in that we, went to the source Noah Bergwin. Jesus, Noah Bergwin is Fox ninety five Orlando's Weeklyn Senior Meteorologist, giving up in Labrador. Noah. Potentially you're gonna get in. Change that last name, dude, it's a tough . You just call me Noah Noah's good. Yeah, very good. Noah, how you doing? Anyway Bricky man, how are you? Good, man. I gotta tell you, the news is everywhere. I told Debbie when I got into today because she brought up the El Nino News. I said, man, it is everywhere front page everywhere today. And I don't know that a lot of people know what it is. I really don't know what it is. I've experienced one a couple years ago and I remember it being in LA when it's supposed to be seventy degrees and it was eighty eight degrees. So how will this affect us ? You know, first of all, isn't it crazy that something four thousand miles away impacts our weather? Yeah. Like you can't see this. You know, I get emails from people and say, how the heck? Why first of all, why do I care that the Pacific is hot? Like, you know, we live in Orlando, like it's nowhere near us. I think the simplest way of putting it, Jim is just that when there's a really big El Nina, there's very few hurricanes in hurricane season. So for once, I get to be not the bearer of doom and gloom in the news. Yeah, that's great. Yes. That's a rare . There's always a second side of that coin. What will it do for us? Of course, if there's no hurricane season, I guess that takes away a lot of the damp the humid air, the warm humid air is that the deal or how does it do that ? You are a smart man because there is a side the other side of that is that in winter , so it looks like we're in an El Nino now. It's not strong yet. So the intensity of El Nino or La Nina, there's the two things. El Nino, all that is that the water in the Pacific is either hot or cold. And if it's hot, it's El Nino, if it's cold, it's Lina. Hurricane season, El Nino means few storms. La Ninja means a lot , but if the El Nino holds into next winter , it would actually surprise you. And I know this might catch me some flat because some people say, how can you tell me the weather six months from now? You can't even get tomorrow right . But one of the most well understood one of the most well understood things with El Nino is actually not hurricane season. It's actually Florida's win . And we get a lot of rain and severe thunderstorms actually in November to March when we're in El Ninos. It only happens maybe about every five to ten years and actually a lot of the big tornado outbreaks in central Florida around Orlando in Kissemi in ninety eight , two thousand seven Groundhog Day . They were all really big El Ninia years. So the side of the coin is while we might not get a hurricane, the upcoming winter will unless it goes away likely be very wet in otherwise the dry season. Yeah because no, I remember back in ninety eight. I don't know if you guys remember trying to Christmas shop when it was it seemed like one dayluge after another . that Is Noah what we could kind of maybe expect this holiday season as well ? Yeah, definitely definitely the winter. I mean, look, forecast can change. I try to be an open and transparent meteorologist. I'm not going to hide from the fact that things are wrong sometimes and change, right ? But it would be a shock if the elminia was not still in place this winter . So and just if it's if it is, there's going to be a lot of rain and normally we only average like five inches of rain the whole winter in Orlando. Yeah, yeah. In El Nino years it's like double triple that . Yeah, that tornado outbreak in ' ninety eight was absolutely awful. You remember having a win on the west side of town it actually took some lives and completely destroyed an apartment complex. It was gnarly. It's dozens and dozens. So it's just gonna rain all Christmas time, dude, that sucks . Well, what? I don't mind it's not his way. Ross. Not him. Come on , he exists . Yeah, I didn't mention anything about Christmas. That is good . Ross . No , no coal in my stocking because of this no. No, so you mentioned, okay, El Nino, warmer temperatures in the Pacific, which means more moderate storm season for us, but I thought warmer temperatures were worse or storms. Does that mean like the Atlantic is inversely proportionate there 's where it's cooler or why is it calmer storm? Does it mean the actually is it more important than the Gulf the Gulf heat than the than the Atlantic or no ? Both of you are correct. Both I would say yes . It's actually less the water temperature for the Atlantic when the Pacific is in El Nino more what the winds in the jet stream are doing because when you're when you're in El Nino in the Pacific, there's a lot of hurricanes. So Hawaii, Mexic o, and it may come as a shock, but southern California, if there were to get remnants of a hurricane, it would be in a really strong Alina year like this. And in the Atlantic, what all of that, they get a huge hurricane season in the East Pacific and Elenews. What that does for us is creates a lot of winds here so that when you go on a plane at that cruising altitude, the winds up there are really strong in hurricane season in the Atlantic because of all that activity in the Pacific and what that does is makes it really hard to get a lot of hurricanes. So it really doesn't matter what the water temperature is because it could be a thousand degrees. The wind is too strong up a lot. Yeah, for sure. Well, no, that's pretty crazy, man. So this is why we ask the person with the degree. Yeah. So no it says basically I just I just get paid to be wrong after degree is just on paper. So if you say if you take anything from this, just know that Noah says that the weather's gonna kill Santa this way Santa cannot fly 'cause no one said it cannot lie. Your gifts are gonna have to come ground ground. No, you've been at Appox thirty five a short time, but do you when you come into a new area, do you have to kind of research what has happened historically weather wise? You understand like when you reference ninety eight or maybe some of the major storms that we've had ? Yes. When I walked in here and people meet me at the grocery store and they say, Hey, yeah, I had my house blown over in two thousand seven. Yeah , I have to cool I don't know. Like what was that? Tell me about it. Yes, like Charlie was really big like and I had, you know, like we all know you guys all know True Orlando Central Floridians know Charlie is our benchmark storm. Yeah. All those storms that have been bad. But if you ask anybody who's a true Orlando resident for a good portion of their life. Charlie is the store that's the measuring stick. Not any of the others. Where did you come to Florida from ? A small town in Western Kentucky outside of Nashville, Paduca Paduca is that in Is it part of Tornado Alley up there ? Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah yeah worst tornado I covered there was an EF four in twenty twenty one it was actually one of the longest tornadoes in American history. Wow, I think I remember the news stories about that one. Yeah. And you know, we just had that weird little trimmer thing from that earthquake near Cuba, but as a weather person, which weather anomalies scares you the most ? Oh, tornadoes. Yeah, definitely. Do you let me What? It's hard for me to watch that because I have to have a couple drinks or something because you know, there's so much that's scientifically wrong and I'm just sitting there I'm sitting there going that would never happen and I'm like hey hey know what we 're doing a dinner river cruise at a Sanford on Saturday so I'm, wondering can you go, in there in the Fox thirty five weather machine ? We're looking for no rain from about four PM to eight. Can you make that happen? Also seventy five degrees and light humidity would be nice. Yeah. Dial that up for us. I will send you my Venmo and we'll get that right over here. Oh yeah, there you go. You gotta give it up for Noah guys Christmas . We're already at one hundred and four point one. I am Jim. There's a hello Jack and Ross as well. Let's reason. Let's do Colbert Court. When you are listening to is real , well, sort of the participants are not actors as a fact. This is, however, a real case that will be decided here in our forum . The Colbert court. That's right, Colbert bought you by our good friend Glenn Clausman, and Clausman Law thata's KLA US MAN WALL dot com offices right there in Winter Park four hundred seven nine one seven seventeen eighteen car crash call that guy right there, mister Glenn Clauseman, good loud for Glen Clauseman See that one built up. We've been working on it. Thanks. Thanks very good. Very good. How was your, how's your trip to down there fancy town ? Yeah, we were in Palm Beach for a statewide national statewide trial lawyer's convention happens once a year. Yeah . It was a good experience. I mean, some of the top lawyers in the state doing seminars, a good learning experience and a great venue I was at. So it was a lot of fun for four days. Actually, that was the question I was going to ask you. You've been in the game quite a while . I would say that you are a seasoned attorney here in Central Florida. That's true . And the thought of learning something new about law in the state seems almost in impractical for a guy with your much your experience, but that happens. Oh, not really. It is a learning experience. There's for instance, there's stuff I don't do. I have a wheelhouse, which is motor vehicle collisions, whether it's motorcycle, truck, car, but there's things like products liability, there's medical malpractice, there's premises liability. There was a seminar by one of the top attorneys in the state who focuses on drownings, pool drownings . And just learning about this stuff and knowing who if I get a call for something, who the best lawyers are in the state to refer something like that to, it's pretty valuable. And medical malpractice, I don't do that, but there were some good seminars on that. So I learn what to look for and I know who to send stuff to if I get it, that's something that I don't do. Plus there's always an update on the current law and how different lawyers, how some of the top lawyers in the state are dealing with it. So it's always nice to hear what they're doing is make sure I'm doing the same thing or if I'm not I need to jump in and do it. Have you ever headed up one of the seminars? Yes, but it's probably ten years ago I used to make presentations, but since I started my own practice, I have not been up there It's a time consuming thing to put it all together and to do it. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Well, Glenn drops by every Thursday and has for quite a while now. And what we do is we go over a case that he's litigating. Is this an actual case we have today? This is a case somebody called me about . Okay, very good. We'll read the case. We'll go around the room trying to figure out if the members of the show can figure it out and then we'll turn it over to Glenn and find out what actually happens. This segment is to just kind of make you aware of how the legalities work when it comes to getting in a car accident, the steps you should take to make sure that you can ensure that you're gonna get paid for your accident, you know, for your injuries and whatnot. And here we go, you guys ready? Ready? Let's do it. Yep. The idea is trying to help people. Yeah, that's right . Chelsea and Gina are waitresses on their way home on i four when Gina's vehicle gets rear ended by Carl's pickup truck . Carl only has ten thousand dollars in auto insurance to pay for the injuries to Chelsea. Chelsea's thirty years old, she has a herniated disc in her neck from the collision. Chelsea owns a car and lives with roommates and she has no uninsured motorist coverage. Carl's insurance has agreed to pay Chelsea the ten thousand dollars, but Chelsea has unpaid medical bills of almost ten thousand dollars, no health insurance and is still getting treatment for her neck injury. Chelsea's law lawyer told her there's nothing more he can do for her other than trying to get her medical bill balances reduced. Chelsea wants a second opinion. Can you help her Do we know if the pickup truck is involved with a business . There's no other insurance, no other insurance on the pickup truck. On a business truck, it's owned by the fellow Carl who is the driver. I'm not a lawyer, but it seems like we got a case solved then. Where do you go from there? Wow, that's what Agus. She must be a movie here. Okay, so she owns a car and she lives with roommates. Why is that important? It would not be in there if it wasn't important, right? She has no uninsured motors coverage. Carls Insurance is agreed to pay Chelsea the ten K of course because they'd love to just write the check for ten grand and be gone because her continuing treatment could be more expensive down the road. They certainly want her to sign a release so they can only pay her to ten K and then move on and regardless of what happens down the road, she would never be able to return another dollar. That's what's happening here. Okay, for sure. That's what's happening. Our key is find out how we can get her more money to pay for those treatments that she has to continue to get. And they mentioned she has roommates . No other insurance. So is there ? So there's no homeowner's insurance there renting right. Renter's insurance. Homeowners insurance would not apply to a motor vehicle . That's what I was about to say. Well , we're looking for all sources of money. I understand . What about her passenger that was with her? There has been no mention of the fact of the other waitress that was in the car with her. She the other person's the driver. The driver . Right. Okay, so if she's the driver and the injured . Gina's the driver, Chelsea's the one who's hurt. So Gina, we need to go after Gina's insurance then because if Carl can only Yes. If Carl can only give the ten thousand that he has and Gina is the driver of the car in which Chelsea is injured, then we need to go after Gina's insurance to help her passenger. I concur with my colleague . That's the only other source of insurance money that's available here. He doesn't look excited about it, but it's the only thing we can do. No, you're you're gonna give it up. Listen, we've taken the bar. We know what we're talking about. Fatigus. We have Fatigus here. Go on into the quitting canoe . We give your screwed next case. I mean, you know, she had ten thousand of her own insurance to pay toward medical bills, but that's all gone also. Right. So she has got ten thousand left. So she's got that does not at fault. No superndered. Has still No, she's a passenger in that vehicle. Correct. If Gina has stacked, what if she has the what if she has enough insurance instead of just the bare bones, could you use her uninsured motorist coverage? Just are you saying Gina's uninsured motorist coverage? Chelsea Carl doesn't have enough to cover the injuries that were sustained in the accident that Gina is not responsible for correct . But that's the only way I could see that she could get that extra money to cover her injuries is to go after Gina not go after but, to use Gina's uninsured motorist copyright. I think Councillor Roberts Carson is on the right path here judging by your response. And that's hyphenated by the way. And it says 's exactly the answer. Yeah , she's a passenger in Gina's car. So she's entitled to Gina's uninsured motorist coverage. Wow, really. Gina happens to have twenty five thousand and the other lawyer apparently didn't check into that or for some reason didn't let Chelsea know why the right lawyer matters exactly exactly because this is another fire debt. Deborah could have it Dember nailed it open and the other guy missed out. Well, well, well, iss M Roberts , look at us. I was about to say the same . Exactly. Work forward, right? Work forward. Yeah, you all are getting better every week. Yeah, that's very good. And what took eight years basically We're no Kardashian . Yeah. What is interesting about this is like so does this will this cause Gina's insurance to increase even though it really didn't affect her or benefit her at all. Yeah, good question. It's not supposed to because Gina was not at fault. As an insurance company, you're not supposed to rape someone for a non fault event, but unfortunately there's really no teeth to that law and how do you prove when her rates go up that the rates have gone up because of a claim made by Chelsea versus some other reason ? That's the problem . So Glenn, I had done a story on Tuesday earlier this week and I've been chomping at the bit to ask you to ask you about it. Okay . So the story is that the USA insurance policy insurance company says some policyholders here in Florida are going to be getting almost a billion dollars in combined savings and returns , including a five hundred million dollar dividend. Now USA says this is possible because of Florida's civil litigation and tort reforms that passed three years ago. I see the smile the eye smile . Now the company says those reforms have led to fewer lawsuits and lower legal costs. If that is truly the case, then why are just now ? Why is it only USA? Why isn't every other major auto insurer out there coming back and praising Florida's tort reform and giving us some of our damn money back ? Well sorry. Why should they give you the money back if they don't have to at this point? But what I suspect will happen is just before the next legislative session when there's a movement again to try to change Florida's insurance laws to require people to have car insurance they get an accident that's going to pay for someone else's injuries. It's called bodily injury liability coverage. You know, Florida doesn't require it now. We've been pushing for Florida acquired for a long, long time . And every legislative session, the insurance industry doesn't want it to happen. And they try to hang it on fraud, right? Try to hang it on fraud. There's so that there's so very few fraud . That's the major word now is fraud. Well, now the major word is going to be oh it's the trial lawyers and all the lawsuits and we got rid of all those lawsuits that reason for that reason we can lower the rates. And it's true. There's so many there's fewer lawsuits for not paying medical bills, but what's happening is the medical bills aren't getting paid. Yeah , the other thing too is, I mean, you can't roll the dice like you could before because you are now having to, you know, you now are going to be responsible for some of the money, right? As of before , it wasn't like that. I mean, so I sure it does take out frivol ous lawsuits, but how many are actually frivolous compared to how many people this actually hurts down the road? That's great point. You know, the thing is they complain that there were lawyer fees were a lot of lawyer fees for a lot of law suits, but the real thing is there's no lawsuit if you're going to pay the claim properly. There's no lawsuit and attorneys fees being recovered against you if you're going to do the right thing and pay the claim in the first place. The only time that there's lawsu its and attorneys fees are when you don't pay the claims and you later lose on something you shouldn't have you know you should have paid in the beginning and then you got to pay the lawyer fees. Hey go back to this case with Chelsea and Jina never really mentions Gina's getting her car fixed. What happens with that if ten K if all that ten thousand dollars went to take care of Chelsea's injuries, what happened to Gina's vehicle? Will that be her own insurance paying for her own car? Yes, good question. Everybody has to have insurance to pay for damage you do to someone else's car, which is crazy. You have to have ten thousand dollars to pay for damage you do to someone else's car when it's your fault. You don't have to have insurance to pay for someone else's injuries when it's your fault. So Carl had ten thousand dollars to pay towards the damage to Gina's car and I assume it was less than anything about it and that covers it. And if it was more and Gina had collis ion coverage, her collision coverage would have paid her more to get a car fix. And obviously that's easy to understand because a car fixing a car is a finite number. Yeah, it's not someone there you go continually going through a spinal injury and having and having treatments for the next three years to be so they can walk again. That could cost tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars. That's when that's happening. It's still nice to know the state is looking after our cars. I mean, maybe not our bodies but at least our cars. a lot of it's to do with the fact that a lot of people have loans on their cars and the banking industry wants to make sure that there's coverage to pay those loans when a car gets damaged. Yeah. Glenn, if Genius car damage exceeded ten thousand dollars, which is the policy that Carl, the guy who hit her had right. You said her collision coverage would cover the rest. Her collision coverage would pay it and then go after Carl's to get the ten grand back that Carl has. Would she have to meet a deductible for what they have to pay. She would, but then her insurance company would go after Carl's insurance company for the day they would get the ten thousand dollars and they're obligated to pay her the first five hundred or a thousand, whatever her deductible is from the ten thousand dollars they would recover from Carl's insurance. But this is also where GAAP insurance can come into play as well because that loan is like really this is like a real high in car or whatever and there's a massive gap there and virtually no chance to get it from Carl. I mean, that's what GAAP insurance is for. Yeah, gap insurance, usually I hear about it when a car's totaled. Yeah, yeah. And there's not enough coverage to pay for the total loss of the car and then you just gap steps in. And I mean, I've had calls about gap insurance and it's become so tricky's. al Itmost like they've got so many clauses cramped doors. Yeah, so many clauses in there that they don't end up hardly paying anything. Oh wow, really. Yeah. Wow. The one thing that we can take away is that everyone should have uninsured motors covered. Absolutely. Absolutely. It was beneficial that Gina had uninsured motor coverage. Save her ass, didn't it? Yeah. Yeah. So if you have uninsured motor coverage and someone's a passenger gets hurt in your car, your uninsured motor coverage can protect them. And if you're in someone else's car and they have unsuinred motor coverage, you're protected to that extent too. That's good advice. Taylor's oldest time. Speaking of Taylor's oldest time , can we go back to the year two thousand? Glenn, I was wondering if you knew if Carl was a big fan of great children's cinema as in the Flint Stones in Viva Rock Vegas, they had cars, didn't they? Yes, they did. Yes, yes. And they had to pedal with the little Toz. Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. Because it was before an engine was made. Yeah ,. yeah Do you think they had no insured motorist coverage? You know, that's where my brain's been at. Bedrock and that bedrock, I'm not sure that they were selling it back then, but I bet you when the Jetsons came around, they were selling it. We were getting awful close to the Jetsons. So cl ose. Well yeah. And apologize to the Flintstones for catching a stray there . Didn't they just rescue? Didn't they just rescue rescue some people at sea with a drone? Yeah, yeah, the pilots from the Yeah, from the shut down plane. They literally rescu ed this guys with a drone with a drone ship. Yeah. Yeah, how crazy. Congratulations Pol o ship. To attorney Deborah Roberts slash Carson for solving the case of the two rear ended waitresses. Oh my god . I am sitting down with Ray Porter , the narrator of Andy Weir's audiobook project Hail Mary Massive Sci fi adventure about survival and science and what happens when you wake up alone very far from Earth? I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections and it's like okay yo y o is this indulgent? And I really thought about it. I was like, No, at this point it would kind of be betraying the trust the author and the listener have in telling this story if I don't go through it. But there's places in this book that deep ly emotionally affected me and I left it on the mic. That's great because it served the story. People will say like, Oh my God, I cried at the end. It's like, yeah, dude, me too. Listen to Earsay, the Audible and I HARTudi Aobookub Cl on the IHR radio app or wherever you get your podcast . Protect your pet with insurance from Petsbest. You're listening to the Jim Coleberg show also available to watch at the Jim Colbert Show on YouTube . Good afternoon, the Jim Colbert show, Prince of the Island and today I'm forty seven years old plus one day . But Jimmy, I will tell you this is the iony . These two girls did not commit murder nor rape the boy , but they are held in january without bone . The cruise boy that raped and murder a girl is out freely with no bone whatsoever . What the I don't know what he's talking about the the two girls who were planning to kill the kid. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. They're in without bond , but the kid from the cruise ship who at the case where the step sister was raped and murdered. He's out on bond like he's in out right now living with an uncle. And that's the first time him being cut off couldn't have been more perfect. Right. Absolutely . Good after noon morning cold Caroo. Man, I am always loving Glen's segment. He always brings such a great vibe to the show, always teaching us something new. And I mean, the vast amount of knowledge we've gained over the years is great, including adding uninsured motor coverage to my plan years ago now. But I actually had a really good thing with my insurance last month, wanted to go payment bill. Realized I was month ahead. Always a great thing with that. Oh man I love it. Thank you out . It's like finding a twenty in the dry. I love the show. Yep. Super El Nino season should mean fewer, stronger storms, but just remember this, don't be unprepared. Andrew happened during a super elino season , it can still happen. Don't let your guard down . Storm. One hundred percent. First storm and only storm that season. Welcome back to the Jim Cover show. I'm Jim there's Debbie. Jack. Yes. And Ross, Histro. We'll be getting some Ross thoughts here in about an hour or so as we move through the day. Like finding that twenty in the dryer, there's another see, I don't think you guys balance your checkbooks, do you ? No , no, no, no, I don't have a checkbook by me. I mean, I have one. We don't need to balance it. I write a year. I feel like I'm talking typewriters and right now because I do balance my checkbook every month and sometimes if you put a charge in there twice and then when you go to balances you realize that's like found money. Oh yeah it's like oh I paid that bill Oh no that's money I don't have to take it. There is nothing like that and we've had that experience before but it didn't turn out that way because my wife found a one of those casino little things there when you cash out of a like a slot machine Yeah it doesn't give you money anymore it gives you this little slip to take up to the cage well when she's playing and drinking you know she doesn't think about it sometimes if we get home from a cruise and she finds one of those in her pockets and it's worth like, it's not fifty bucks. It's a it's a pretty good number. We're like, What do we do with this? You got to buy a whole nother cruise. We have to collect it. And that's exactly what we had to do. We had to do it. And we were lucky. Let me tell you we got lucky that they that they gave us the money and they did because I mean yeah, I don't think they had to whoa whoa whoa, why? Because we left the ship and I think there's a time thing. They were really cool though because we called in advance the minute she found it we called them and we let them know hey we have another cruise booked and we want to make sure we can use this and they they wouldn't give us an answer. They said hey look, just get on the boat and go to the cage and try to catch and try and try to cache it and see what happens. And believe it or not, it worked. She got the money. You know, four hundred bucks. I would think it would work, but like I wonder how much money they make by not dispensing cash. Oh man, right. How many times have someone lost a slip or something. Oh man. Oh, it's a whole bunch of what they bank . There are people who walk through casinos just to see if people have left credits on the machine because they don't know how the machine works. And believe it or not, there's quite a few. Guess what? I don't know how those I just see these giant screens and it's like it's all like way too much happening is a lot and I have to tell you that's one of the reasons I don't play but my wife has learned those things like left she speak s that language, that slot language. She can actually walk around and see certain machines and how they're about to pay off based on levels of certain like bonuses that you get while you're playing. People will play it and if they don't win, they just move on not realizing that the money they've been putting in there has been building up these pots or these you know, these other bonus programs so they're about to get paid. If they just play a little bit longer they will they will get paid on our first cruise the one that we did two years ago we , cash giant with that theory just walking around looking for machines that were on the verge of paying off and playing them for a little bit and hitting them. God not a slot machine guy. Yeah, I'm not either. The lights, man. I just look at the lights. Yeah , it doesn't seem like you're doing anything at smashing button. Yeah, it's just I mean hey, if you win and she's got if she has a system there's no system per se, but we can you can advance yourself by knowing how the machine's pay out. I mean, you just told Central Florida like, Hey, man, don't quit gambling. I didn't tell the there's a wall. You got to power through that. You have to pay attention, but you do have to power through a little bit . So power through the losses never stop trying . So I'll saw this story on USA today and I find it kind of interesting because I don't know how to kind of process this. And what they were talking about is the best fried chicken joint in the U S. What is the best fast food fried chicken fast food? Yeah, fast food. Well, I think most fried chicken that we consume is probably fast food, you know, fried chicken. I'm thinking, what's that famous one in the Nashville Hot where there was like hatdie bees? Haddy Bees. Yeah, there's a couple of them out there. Haddy Bees is very famous for sure. Who do you think won the best fried chicken? Dave's hot chicken. You said Dave's hot chicken? Yeah. What do you think? Pop eyes? Pop eyes? It's fast food, you say? Yeah, yeah. Chick filt . See, and that's the answer, but that ain't right. I'm about to wait and just delaying that chicken. They consider that right back in that is not fried chicken. It is not it is chicken that's been fried. Technically it is, but it is not the fried chicken that we know that is fried chicken it has to be on the bone. To me, it has got to be on the bone. Even chicken strips , although they're fried chicken, if you ask me how their fried chicken is, I'm like, they don't serve fried chicken. It's got to be on the bone or it's not fried chicken. I know that sounds completely ridiculous. It doesn't. No, because that's exactly what you imagine when you say fried chicken. Exactly. But you said chick fil A because did you just think it was gonna be a swerve? I was just trying to think of a chicken restaurant. Yeah Sorry . Yeah , Chick Fil AKC Popeyes raising canes , all of those places have been considered that. What do you think they thought the best burger was? Well at this point, they're probably going to go with long John Silver. But yeah, chick fil . I'll go five guys. Five guys is the answer. That's right. And who you want the big part of that story is not it really isn't that surprising that five guys came in first. It is surprising who came in second Burger King Burger King came in second dude. Wow. McDonald's was way down the list and even Wendy's was way down. Burger King must be on one right now dude because they and the numbers were good for Burger King saw again. I saw a commercial last night. It's it's their campaign of we listen to you. We're focusing on making the whopper, the whopper again and quality burger. And yeah, I tried it recently because of that advertising and it was better. Wasn't really the time I had it at the previous time. I'll give you an idea how close it is. Five guys ranked first with fifteen point five percent of the vote. Burger King came in second with fifteen percent lost to five guys by half a percent and five guys is like, if you get a burger fries and a soda there and like twenty two dollars an hour or something? It's not cheap. Yeah . I mean, but you also get fries to feed a small nation. Right. Exactly. They're damn good fries. I always fall guilty of that. I love seeing that brown bag sweaty looking back at me . Yeah . Oh yeah. There's something that that really drives it home when you see the oil stained back. , you know it's gonna be good. And when you take a bite of a fry and you're like, I know I'm about to get a pimple on the side of my mouth. Dude, I tell you gotta something else too. You know, when we used to get these burgers from this place in town called Jerry's Drive In, which is just your stereotypical old school drive in cafe from an old the burgers were wrapped in that it's it's kind of like the same burger paper that burger king uses, but it's that old paper diner kind of semi wrapped and it'll have the oil on the outside from the burger because they don't care how much fat contents in there. And that goes to the bag. That you're a hundred percent right , dude. That greasy bag is that is the indicator that your burger's going to be supreme. And I remember hearing a great little spiel about the psychology of what it does to the customer when they get when you see as a customer you see them scoop up fries they put the cup of fries in the bag then they grab another scoop not of via cup but with the scooper right into the bag and then you just feel like oh, I got, my self a deal. Exactly. It's just corporate policy. Yeah, it's the cheapest thing they could possibly serve you. Somebody texted us about Maryland fried chicken. I've never tried that. That reminds me of the beefy king of the fried chicken restaurants. Yeah , yeah, Maryland is old school. I was gonna say, I've only seen one. I think it's like in the Belle Isle area. Is there something like that? There was one for years up on Edgewater and Lee Road right there and that little I for,get the it's called Northgate or something area, but that that one was the last one I remember seeing and it was just a lot like original chicken from KFC as I remember . Okay. And then nobody been just churches. That's right, chicken is damn good. Have you guys ever been to a churches? I don't know. Chicken. Dude, I mean they're super old school, but let me tell you man, they have fried okra and it is unbelievably good. They did a good job. Look at a Maryland fried chicken in Lee's burg.. Yeah It's laughing over jack . Not for chicken . I go there for God Pizza, who do you think won't for pizza? Oh, not say pizza hunt. Chains shouldn't even I don't think they should be allowed. Who do you think one for pizza? Best national chain for pizza. Papa John's? No , I'm gonna guess because I think every city has one of these. Anthony's. Oh nice. Okay Anthony go that's just go Marco's. I'll go all right, Domino's . And what'd you say? My last one or my first one. What'd you say your first one was? My first one was Papa John's. Oh yeah, John. Marco's. Papa John's comes in third, actually. Don't say pizza. Domino's comes in second. Oh, I'll go hungry Howeys. Little Caesars comes in fourth and pizza hut is the number one pizza chain in America according to this study. But okay, is that sales? Yeah, yeah, I think it is sales, yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, no it doesn,'t take any of that. You got forty four thousand responses between March and February from march twenty twenty five to February of twenty six and America's favorite fast food chains and that's exactly what this is. four Fort thousandy people polled and that's how it came out. But there's also those are the same people that said chickley was fried chicken. Exactly. So who knows? Yeah, that's a little disgraceful. Yeah . And then actually in an outburger came in third. I heard that's supposed to be like the best burger in America. I haven't had one. Which one is that? In Nautburger? I think they're only on the West Coast. Yeah, they are. I like a good culverse butter burger. Culver's damn. Have you had Culver? Ise've had C ulver, I've had in and out. Yeah , but I enjoy both. I enjoyed the name of In and Out because I always thought that was funny. I take it literal. Krolls hamburgers is the best. Have you guys ever do you guys ever choose something because of the fries ? Like I used to everybody used to hate steak and shake fries but I love steak and shake . I went through a minute there where I could not eat any other burger than steak and shake because of the fries . Have you guys do you guys make choices like that? One of the reasons I do like Culver's, but I don't like Culver's fries. They have the crinkle fries. They don't cook them enough. You gotta get them real crispy, man. Yeah, they're sad. Okay, it's sad. I know it's sad. When those fries are all floppy and it's just all flaced of a potato experience. You don't want that. Yeah, and as you get older, it's a reminder . Yeah, you better put some blue pills in that oil . Better crack those things open. Better blue chew those fries. Blue chew Fries. All right, we had a major controversy that happened online and I it's a really sensitive subject. I'm not joking. This is not a joke, but we are going to talk about this next. And so just gird yourself, we'll do that right after this. This is Bethany Frankl from just Be with Bethany Frankl. Most dog food is marketing, not nutrition. I'm sitting down with divergent author Veronica Roth to talk about her sprawling new novel Seek the Traitor's Sun. It's a sci fi fantasy epic about two protagonists on opposite sides of a war and a prophecy neither of them wanted. My first book was Divergent and when that came out like because it was so popular, I think it attracted like mostly positivity but the negativity I sucked in like a sponge . And I think it was like critiques of things I liked when I was like, you know, I was twenty three and I wrote this book and it had all my dorky little cheesy or maybe unrealistic loves in it . And I started to feel a lot of shame about those things. And so for the rest of my career I steered from those little things that like make you feel pleasure when you read, but I also was like saying no to these parts of myself that I then was like, screw it. Yeah . So that's this book . Listen to Earsay, the Audible and IHA Audiobook Club on theH AiR radio app or wherever you get your podcasts. Everything's good. All right , you know, I was thinking during this segment. I got to tell you I you know, I when I saw the story today, I was like, this is like an incredible talker , but it is not a, you know, it is not a savory story. So I don't know if I should do it. I told Deb what it was. What do you think of Deborah? Is that a is that an odd thing to talk about? How can you not now? Yeah. Yeah. Well, okay, I'll tell you what's up. I'm gonna tell you, maybe you guys can help me out because I really did not know where to go with this to be honest with you. I just found it to be a really unique, you know, what you say perfect question, Ross. All right, yeah, a little perfect deb ate. A little perfect debate thing Let me go back to the original story here real quick and I'll do this because as I started kind of reading the story again and reclimating myself with it, I was like, God , that's kind of a bummer, but you know, well life is filled with bummers. Yeah. Are you familiar with a YouTuber named Jesse Ridgeway I am not. Yeah, I'm not either. And I really don't even know what kind of content Jesse Ridgeway creates, but he made news today because I guess part of Jesse Ridgeway's thing is is you share people his YouTube name is McGugger Nuggets He's not sorry I can't nobody I know it's just it's hard to have serious convers ations right yeah yeah with McGugger Nuggets Yeah McGugger Nuggets who has four million followers and basically as they as mister McGugger Nuggets shares his life story which you, know bloggers and YouTubers will, you know, he's sharing everything , right? So they go through the context of sharing what he and his wife are going through in life. And one of those things were they found out that they were pregnant, right? Got it. Okay , and he acknowledged that. They were talking about it and as they talked about it, he also shared this and he is, you know, they're getting destroyed online for it. Yeah, he and his wife. Yeah, they did the is it amniocentesis is that the test? I believe so. And they found out that they were more than likely going to have a downschild have a child with down syndrome and they chose to end the pregnancy . Now again that is a super heavy topic. I don't even know where to go with it, but I found it interesting that he chose to share that online as part of the continuing story of his wife's pregnancy . So there's a lot of people, I believe would make that decision, but sharing it is right component and you could say that's it's over sharing or you could also say that's Balzi. It no question. Let me read you a couple paragraphs from the story so you can get an idea of how this guy has handled this with his wife. He goes, quote, I know some of you may be very disappointed to hear this news. We are devastated. This has been an extremely traumatic for both of us, especially his wife. She underwent the procedure earlier this week and is on the men. Thankfully, everything went smoothly but emotionally were drained . He listened he listed some statistics that D syownndrome babies have heart defects, seventy five percent have hearing issues, and half will also have eyesight challenges, added that impaired immune functions, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, delayed physical development, poaor. mjor He listed all these things that come along with Down syndrome and his whole take was that he wouldn't want to put a child through that life. Yeah, that's that's a sentence right there, just scoffing and disrespecting an entire community . That to be honest with you is one of the most beloved sectors of humanity on the planet. Yeah, it's like hearing RFK Jr. talk about what autistic people around the neurodivergence spectrum are never going to accomplish in their life. And then you go on Instagram and they're like, okay, let's listen and it says as he says he continues on and this how he end iss it s.ad It golyes the list is long . Feel free to look it up. Down syndrome isn't a blessing . It's objectively crappy but he uses the S word there from a health perspective and then of course immediately im,mediately he got handled online because, you know, there are people out there that have kids that are downs and immediately started going, you know, all of those things could be true, but my , you know, my life has never been more blessed and to say, I mean, just there's so many sentences there that I'm like oh God I mean the best first thing is that he said that it's not a blessing but, it is some people's blessings. It is. Yeah, a matter of fact, the one person said right here it says quote, My son has down syndrome. He's one of the best things that's ever happened to me. The list of conditions sounds terrifying at first, but modern medicine can do so much for them. If you ever get a positive screening, I promise you won't regret welcoming your child . And then you know, a lot of those and to be honest with you, the story doesn't print many responses of positivity . Some of them basically say, hey, look, you know, you're you're grown adult. You can do what you want. This is your choice. You know, you guys are have to live with this for the remainder of your existence. You know, and I mean, that's as positive as it got really and he said he also said this blew up in my face because nobody talks about it . That's true. Yes. They do the tests and you know for most people that comes back negative and you just you say, oh, thank goodness and you move on . But when it doesn't, how many people have made that decision ? They just stayed mom . And back . I was going to say back to your your point, Jack me. To , this just points to one of the cancers of social media, and that is your belief that you have to share everything in your life with me, and then you're not going to like it when I share my opinion. And basically he says that as well. He says quote, this is the guy Ridgeway, the son the father, McGugger Nuggets. He says, I've never seen such hate and vitriol for two people grieving the loss of their unborn child and making an impossible decision. What an idiot . I know tone deaf, right? The last twenty four hours have exposed a size of a side of humanity that is deeply disturbing being called a murderous piece of s vil compared to Hitler and even receiving non stop death threat s have been par for the course. What was he expecting? I don't really know what he was expecting. But that would apply to anyone who terminates a pregnancy, would it not? Not necessarily . I don't think so. Maybe I think the sympathetic nature of a downs child or is it down child probably makes this worse. I mean, I would agree with you on the surface. Like logically that makes sense, but I think if you look at a, you know, a group of people who are , you know, I don't know underprivileged is that a word? Is that a word to use there or a group of people that are Yeah different and they are I said it before is like there's some of the most beloved people on the plan at least in my universally that I've seen and to go ahead and say that it's not just to be so public about it because just to clarify a quick stances I',m completely with Deb is that this is a side effect. You live by the people, well, you will die by the people . You could have just kept your pregnancy quiet. You could have just, there's so many angles you could have taken with this story. You chose to make it front and center front page news. You know what Jack brings a very good point. Let me ask because Jack that it's a very good point. If he just says we didn't think we're ready for the baby yet and doesn't mention that the child was pre diagnosed or the chan youces know, were very high that the child was going to be a downschild. Do you think the responses would have been as hateful? Yeah. I think you think so I'm going to tell you. I tell you though dude, I just took your say to pick up on what you're saying there I and I think do think the sympathetic nature of that of that situation does make it considerably worse it's a little bit different but it's the same absolute value of disdain and you're not going to be celebrated because of your actions actions and they shouldn't be celebrated and you can say, oh, well this platform is I share my life. So why not share this? Well basically you've chosen to monetize and make a career out of your personal life and you're choosing to share this. Therefore you're choosing to monetize opinion termincy termin ating a pregnancy and you're choosing the digital world over the real world to me, that's what I'm hearing is that like you have put number one priority above your family's privacy the internet and reaction and then you're shot nice and you'd be all upset when you put it out. It's like brother , you made this closet. Yeah this, he goes on to continue. This is the last thing he says as part of the article. He goes, the reason this blew up is quite simple. It's because nobody talks about it. He writes that in all caps. Then he continues, I can't blame people for not talking about these vulnerable experiences public ly because you see the disgusting backlash that ensues. Why? It's very divisive. Luckily after twenty years on the internet, this is par for the course for me taking on the crazies . So I'm glad I can further help the conversation. God this gu,y is so full of himself. Is there any room in the room for anyone other than me myself and I? But he is right about it. About it. No wrong. Yeah, there is no and I don't disagree with you on that, but that conversation doesn't happen. I just remember being in the doctor's office and they explained what this test was and what it would reveal and fortunately you know, I say fortunately for us , it's negative because I wanted, you know, a healthy baby, you know , so I don't mean to disrespect anyone who has a Down's child. I think it's wonderful loving . And I think maybe what they bring in your life is, you know, what God intended. But can we be real that nobody's really cheering when that happens? Agree. I mean, we can be real about that. Right. I mean, nobody nobody's, you know, nobody's going out to eat that night if they find out they're having a child with downs. It would be weird to root for it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And so how many people have made this decision and just not said anything you just don't know about it . But because people don't talk about it to them, it's like this is like a new development but how long have they been doing this test? Yeah. I don't know years ago but it's his professorial tone . It's his I know better than you. I am the gatekeeper of this discussion. It's just like sit down and shut the FIES. You barely look like you have pubic hair It's hard to take any advice from someone called McGugger Nugget. Seriously, keep your ass private and then you don't have to answer these comments. And they're in their early twenties. I mean, you know, again life is just there's a lot of people on the internet that thinks every part of life should be on the internet. Every conversation should be had. We should have this as a discourse or a discussion. In this scenario, this is as hyper personal as it gets. This stays with you and your family . Yeah, and your parents and you lean on the people that hopefully you've leaned on and before not a Facebook group and let me tell you something else man. Can you imagine if they do wind up crying again and they don't and they do have a pregnancy that doesn't show that they're going to have downs and they have that child think about that child's legacy now considering that this is now part of the Internet stories world and it's not going to go away. That child is going to live with this as you know they get to that age . I just couldn't agree with Debb Moore. It's just that and even more so broader than social media is that this is the side effect of the internet and getting paid for clicks and likes and like all right, well how do we write something? All right, then you write something and then all right, how do we do something bigger and better? I've been saying this for years is like how do you beat a guy getting gored by a bull, right? So AKA this is real life that to people, we get to watch this pop popcorn eat it and me there's such callousness . There's a sickness to that and I so I'm a little worried about the trajectory of entertainment media when what you're watching is real. Yeah . Well, the other part of this it's even worse. I just say even worse, but I just saw this now. I don't know that this is the case, but apparently one of these people that commented on on that thread was a follower of this guy. And I guess part of their story arc at least one point in their life was is they went through the story of their dog that had cancer and the money they had to spend to save their dog from cancer so when the commenters you know said that all said well you 'll spend the time and money it takes to you know to save a dog from cancer but you know and I don't know if that's a good comparison , but that was mentioned in the story. Yeah, if anybody out there who's trying to and listen, all four of us have kind of dealt with it. We put our stuff out there. We end up going my name's Ross. My name's Jack and like, there's a side effect and we all have our own lines of like, well I'm taking that to the grave and this is one of those things that it's just such a sign of the time sickness of the soul. Somebody just said, could you imagine if they did this for the clicks and none of this was actually true . Oh, that's that's what you're talking about, right? Like, could you imagine it would be worse almost some out? Yes, it would be. It wouldn't be, but I mean it would be But it wouldn't be you right. Yes. It wouldn't be the first careful there. It wouldn't be the first rodeo for the internet of doing basically something in that ilk. Do you remember when that one woman who got basically canceled and everyone lost the internet gra, bbed their pitchforks because she was making their kid cry, making her kid cry for this one video. Oh yeah. And then all of a sudden she uploaded a wrong edited version. So you saw her direct her son crying. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, that's yeah by like taking something yeah and then here's the thing what's sick is that end result they got paid more only she got caught well someone just texted us and said I have a child that was supposed to have down syndrome still had them. Again, it's just a test , you know, I mean , but that's that's a gamble that maybe you choose not to take. But like Ross said, that should be a choice that's between the married couple, their parents, their family , their tribe, and your tribe is not the internet Is the wife quoted at all in this because I mean really she's the one who bears the child but, also the ultimate decision on this and has to do with the backlash of her husband, mister McNuggets decision to make it public. It doesn't really look it doesn't look like she really has much to offer here . It's pretty much him because I mean he is the, you know, the star of the channel as mister McJuggle nuggets. Internet posts all come with like first degree intention. This video, I have not seen it, but I'm assuming it was edited . There was an upload. There was something in Final Cut, maybe premiere. And then there was the typing of the description. And then they hit post that like this is hours of work to spread the message. This isn't one of those like oops I dropped something. Do you think that they thought they were going to look at be looked at virtuously? Do you do you think that because it I mean, I kind of with Dev. This guy sounds like a bit of a narcissist and kind of sounds like he thought that people are going to hop on a up on a podium and clap for the making this big decision. That's kind of how it sounds. You know what I thought? I thought I bet you he went this is good content. Yeah, man, I'd hate to hear that. That's unbelievable. Why else did you post it? I wasn't even part of it, almost didn't knew the story. Just because of the sensitive nature of it. I mean, that's how that's how it hit me. Like, I'm not even involved with this. This is just a radio segment story and I almost didn't do it because of the sensitivity nature of this comment. These are this story. These big YouTubers, four million people, they're not thinking, oh, what's going to make me feel good or bad or bad? Like they're they're putting hours into these pieces of content and then hitting post yeah, I hope he prioritized the digital world, man. You live and die by the people. All right, Texer just wrote in that they had the test done with her son twenty six years ago. It was a positive test. I asked if she wanted to terminate the pregnancy . She said no and their son was born completely normal . And she said, people make decisions based on fear and unreliable tests. And speaking of that, someone said that test is grossly inaccurate. The number of people who get told they will have a downs child and the child ends up not having that as crazy high. It depends on when you take it and how you take it said that they had two nieces were told would be positive for downs and we not're. Wow. All right, four hundred seven nine one six four one text seven seven zero three one by the way if you want to read that story in its full content. It's a Fox thirty five Orlando story so you can slide right over there and click on it. I think it's still up on the site right now. Let's take a look right you guys a little bit up. It's time for Trivia , we'll do that next. Most dog food brands don't really want you seeing how their food is made. Just food for dogs is the opposite . They actually invite you in. It's a story about a forensic anthropologist who secretly writes mystery novels, an actress who adapts his book into a film, and what happens when a meme and a mediator collide with a slow burn romance . It's performed by Simulu and Philippa Sue, and it is an absolute blast. When you actually hear the performance , you realize that other people aren't taking your words and what you thought was kind of a straightforward sentence like the cat in the corner is black . In my head, it's the cat in the corner is black, not the dog, not the derbal . But someone else might say it, the cat in the corner is pl.ac Thated's always fascinating to me at how they just bring in all these different nuances and really make it fun and interesting and distinctive. We do have a lot of serious talk backs on it, but we're going into a game no at six hundred twenty. I can share that. Very. Yeah good. All right, welcome back to the Gem Cororpation show. I'm Jimmy Debs. Hello. Jack Yo and Ross. Take five. And Jack has the old Jackie sack. Let's find out what's in there. All aboard, chucky chuck, chew, chew. Click it clack y clack. Alternately, they might a pair of tickets to see train . Let's go number four. Four it is. Kate, how you doing? Shut up, Ross. Hi. Hey, wanna play a little game with us? Let's do it. And let's do it. Oh, she knows the language. All right, Kate, this is a real easy game. We got a question here for you. Four answers. One of these answers is not true, Kay ? Trying to fool you, but if you can find it, I will send you over to see Jack and his Jackie Sack and you can find something nice for yourself. Are you ready? Yeah . All right, let's go. Here we go. On this day in nineteen eighty six, American actor and filmmaker started as a Disney star . He transformed himself into a serious actor . He spent some time in the tank downe Jr. He's known for being arrested and eccentric . Cory Feldman. Oh Shia Buff. Shia La Buff was born on this day. Buff. That's right was born on this day. Here three fun facts about Shia and one Bourbon Street brawl of a lie. All right. We're pledged. We're talking about Shia Above here, Kate. Which one of these is untrue? Are you ready? Here we go. Number one, his name translated from Hebrew means praise God for beef. Number two, he's been arrested at least eleven times. His first was for shoplifting Nike steakers at just twelve years old. Number three, he has twelve tattoos. Two of them are of ra pp raerpper Missy Elliott and they're on his knees. Or lastly in the W W two drama that's World War two Fury, he didn't think the makeup was realistic so he slashed his face with a knife twice to create the scars . Which of those is a lie ? Um let's go to God that's the one right on your arm How old do you think he was when he was arrested the first time I don't know forty nine. You didn't even hear the guess. All right, nine years old. He was nine years old . Oh my gosh. You got a you'inreer a w there, Kate. Thanks for thinking about it hard and getting the right answers. Now that Kate I guess will do. Yeah, his name translated from Hebrew does mean praise God for beef. Does your name Yeah, God he was arrested at least eleven times. He was his first shoplifting was Nike Steakers at just nine years old. Wow . He does have twelve tattoos and two of them God, how could you not choose that ? Because if you know anything about Shia, that makes sense. Of all the ones , the one that makes like he has twelve just do it twelve come true . Two of them are of rapper Missy Elliott and they are on his knees and then in the World two War drama Fury, he did not think the makeup was realistic enough. So he literally cut his own face with a knife so he could have the scars and look legit. And there's more to that in a second. Wow . Some other things about Sh ia Labuf that you may not know from the same movie Fury, the one where he cut his face, he also went to a dentist and had one of his bottom teeth removed because it was true to the character as it was written in the book or in the script. His father was a professional clown who trained chickens for the circus . Now doesn't that set it up for the Missy Elliott tattoos on his knees? And then lastly here , while filming a mov ie, he took real LSD . Now the movie required him to like take acid, but it was supposed to be just acid. He wasn't going to act. He did not do that. He actually took LSD and wound up choking out the director. Oh geez . In a frenzied panic for being high on LSD. So just do it . He's got to be worth like twenty million dollars. He drives a Nissan camera or a Toyota Camry or a Nissan Maxima. I hate that I love Shia Lebuff. He is a millennial deity. We don't we don't it's not like we look up to him , but we just really appreciate that he really represents like he's one of us. He's authentic. I don't even know I don't know anybody in old Hollywood you can compare him to maybe Brando a little bit but Brando wasn't that crazy in the kit you know why if they were you wouldn't have known about it Yeah. , just because of how they protected people . Back in the day they did and this guy was a maniac. I can't think of anybody as destructive as cat that's an actor. I mean, Hunter S. Thompson was pretty gnarly. You know, the fear fear and loving. Yeah that, guy. I mean , he was pretty crazy, but man, not an actor like that. I mean, they're like the last interview he just had was with channel five with Andrew Callahan and he talks about when he was in jail Burban Street like, he Yeah's, man, I met a lot of good people that night. Carl Carl, I shout out to Carl. I hope Carl and his wife like really figure out what they've been going through. And he's talking about someone he was just in jail with that night and there's just this real weird down to earthness there. I remember seeing footage of him rapping at Boneru, but not on stage, just in a cipher with his blunt in his hand like he's just this magic mystical millennial man. Maybe a true artist, right? Because he also was in that video for that Cia song like a dancing like was it didn't you do a version of that like doing a performative dance? I think he's departive dance, I should say. I think goes hard in the artist world. Yeah , his performances are also good. He's not a bad actor. Thought . Yes. Okay , so I've got good news. Are you ready for it? Yes, I am the good news. Just saw my son and my wife laugh harder than they have in their lives collectively. As a pageant family , the Page household, there was an event that happened and then it kept happening and it has made everyone cry laugh. The bad news wildly at my expense . We'll find out what that is right after the This is Bethany Frankl from Just Be with Bethany Frankl. Let me be blunt, most dog food is junk. It just is. And I'm not feeding junk to big and smalls. That is why they eat just food for dogs. It's real, one hundred percent human grade food with ingredients I actually recognize, not mystery pellets pretending to be healthy. And once I switched the differe, nce was obvious better digestion, better skin, more energy, dogs who actually feel good instead of just surviving dinner. Here's the thing, you care about quality , you make an intentional choice to be healthy . So why are you gambling with your dog's health? So let's think about our furry babies. All right, welcome back to the Jim Colbert show. We're already a one new four point one. I'm Jim DevJack and Rosser here as well. Speaking of Ross, let's get some thoughts. Bur r. It's weird. You got to be proactive. Make sure that the AC unit is going to last the summer. Mills Air can come over and check that out. That's what I did. I am a six foot two man filled with no air conditioning regret millsair . com Now Jim, Jack, Deb Glorious moment this morning seeing my wife fall to her knees with laughter because my son had just fallen to his knees of laughter. , those are the moments you cherish, right? Loads are the moments you try and remember forever. When your kid laughs themselves like done . I And've I la'veu laghedughed so much. It's so cute off the brick. It's uncut not from Miami stuff. Yeah . And by the way, dude, that is like one of the great sounds of being a human is the laughter of a , especially a baby. That is just that cackling laughter. They can't control themselves. And there's so many little isms and cliches that people who , you know, when I when they found out that I was gonna be a dad that have reached out and told me like , you know, don't some things are good for far but far from good. You know, like all these little colloquial what's the word colloquial lisms? Yeah, that's fine. Okay, we'll move on a little colloquial as a man. Good job. But we all had to take a scenic route on the local local . I love the fact that Jack jumped in archipelago. I like how when Jack can't say a word, he just becomes a ghost to hit fifteen seconds behind. Listen to it again. It was very ghost like where I'm going with this is that I love making my family laugh. I have enjoyed it and one thing that the cliche that probably turned out to be the most true was my mother in law telling me and she goes, this is so exciting. You guys are just going to laugh and smile so much more and she was beyond right . I just keep thinking about that simple sentence. You guys are going to laugh and smile so much more. She didn't exactly describe the foundation of the laughing or the smiling because I've had some crazy person laughs throughout this whole almost two years now of being a dad . And I've had some crazy people person smiles of like just go to bed, you know, you but a lot of times they are positive smiles. But this morning something, man, God, I don't know how I feel about this. I don't even I asked Jack if I should share this and he was like, oh yeah, dude , you gotta share that . I wear pajamas We all wear pajamas. What do you mean uh oh? Okay, go ahead. We don't all wear pajamas . I do not wear pajamas. I don't wear a pajamas. What does that? What do you mean? You don't wear a pajamas? I say naked. Well, we're not in an we're not seventeen the fifties Dickens book. So careful with the Dickens . I have the butt flap and buttons. What do you think I am? Scrooge? But flap I don't want one of those . I don't have sounds that like a great acoustic duo. But flattened butt ons. I have pajamas and this morning . This morning I was wearing pajamas and I was wearing a white shirt and it honestly felt even more Americana. It felt even more like fruit of the loom commercial. Very hef of you. Yeah, I just felt very Norman Rockwell. Yeah, yeah. And then my wife is wearing her pink silk pajamas. more All right, they've got shapes on it like random like, you know , okay. Whatever , dude. So I go ahead my son is also wearing pajamas and he's got little sharks and trees on his cool. Oh, that's cute.. Pajama family Yeah, pajama families. Yeah, right. We're on the couch and it's truly like this is the best. This is the most fulfilled I think I can feel. I go get some ice coffee and as soon as I go to get ice coffee coffee I get, done, I pour the coffee and then I look, oh, my son's right there in front of me and then the first thing he does is that he goes up to like uppie, get pick me up. Yeah . And then as soon as he goes up he picked me up, his hands are also right in front of the drawstrings of my pajamas. Okay , right? Okay. Oh, he got pants by his own son . And he pulls them No , and he pulls quick enough and just how it all happened so fast is that like it got stuck on my on my stuff . All right , and then he yanks again . This thing flops. Does that happen? It has like a all of a sudden yeah he paints me and all of a sudden my junk is out and it's like right there in front of him and then what happens ? Little man just dies of laughter. Just he epsteined you then laughed. Could not it was the flop that got me? It was guess what? It was the flop that got him because when he on that second pole busy from the first pole it got smashed down. The second pole it was released. So this thing like a smash down a little door stopper thing. Yeah, I had a little bit . And my wife she sees it. Yeah, sees him drop to the floor for laughter. And everyone's just laughing at my dog, dude . I'm drinking ice coffee and everyone's my son, my wife is just laughing at my package
