Mark Belling podcast is presented by you Lon For quality shipping and industrial supplies, U Mine has everything in stock Visit youline. com Mark Belling Podcast is a production of IHart Radio podcasts I'm going to explain the whole problem. What problem? Well, I think I can explain just about every problem that we have and I have ideas on solving all of them. but this one's pretty simple We have a property tax problem. in many parts of the country and in particular here in Wisconsin And we keep discussing ways to ease the burden and so on, but all of it is an attempt manage the problem. I want to tell you what the problem is because nobody wants to land at that point evenven though it's fairly obvious So we'll get to that in just a moment. Have you ever been offered an add on option for premium? Gove service. ULine provides only one type of service, the best From knowledgeable customer service available twenty four seven three hundred sixty five to keeping every product in stock ready to ship the same day When your business needs quality shipping supplies, reliable warehouse equipment, or office furniture fast, contact you Lied. and get the best service Because ULine believes service is essential Not an option This is going to sound trite And maybe it is trait But it's true The reason that any type of tax is too high is because we're spending too much money In Wisconsin and this is similar to other states for those of you outside of Wisconsin, but in particular, Wisconsin Property taxes are used to fund really only two things. There's more than that, but primarily two Your local government and the schools The state kicks in a big chunk of money to assist in running the schools But if you take a look at the property tax bill, just about every community put that thing in and they'll break it down for you An enormous percentage of your property tax dollar goes to the schools. There's a report out today from A Conservative think tank's called Institute for Reforming Government It explains the problem. Here are the numbers rightight now in Wisconsin We have a total of seven hundred ninety one thousand seven hundred and ninety four public school students. Those are the numbers from last year, twenty twenty five. So there's seven hundred ninety one thousand seven hundred and ninety four kids that go to public schools I don't know if they count the four K, the kids before kindergarten or not, but that's the number and then going obviously all the way to seniors in high school, and we're only counting public schools That is the lowest number that we've had In decades So the number of kids that we have in the schools keeps going down Two major reasons for the decline The first is the long term decline in the birth rate. There is nothing there that would indicate this is going to reverse. The birth rate has been declining significantly in particular with the millennial group that Delayed marriage And then when there was marriage, very, very small families, lower than the generation above them the Z's, which was lower than the millennials, and so on baby boomers by definition created this huge group of people And then you had another wave that came in When their kids were being raised, but that large group of their kids, the millennials, had drastically lower birth rates. Even if the G Z's reverse that There aren't as many of them as there are millennials. So that's the first part. We have fewer students Because there's fewer people making kids. The only thing that mitigates against that is the illegal immigration situation has resulted in a lot of kids going to schools of people that weren't born in the United States So that's mitigated against and created some number of students to cut into this decline. The second factor that's going on is the growth of private schools More and more parents are sending their kids to schools other public schools in the areas that have school choice, There's tremendous market for parents to send their kids somewhere other than the public schools. So those two factors So that's the number that we have. Let put it into context, seven hundred ninety one thousand Our population in Wisconsin iss a little bit shy of six million That number of people are kids between, you know, senior in high school and when they start school who go to the public schools. remember that number Here's the other up cururrent employment. by public schools in Wisconsin. This is all of them combined is one hundred thirteen thousand one hundred and seventy one That is the highest number ever begin to see the problem We have more staff than ever while the number of students is at a decades long low fewer students to teach but more people working for the schools. Now they break down the numbers The great growth in employment is not people that are certified as teachers This is the thing that just shocks people who haven't paid close attention who maybe of my generation or even younger than that You would not believe the number of people who work in the schools I struggle to figure out what it is that they all do. Now we're going to dive into the number These are the IRG report is using numbers from DPI, the State Department of Public Instruction From twenty twenty to twenty twenty six W Wisconsin Public Schools lost one hundred and eighty seven licensed staff Licensed staff are generally teachers They require a license. added one thousand five hundred and eighty one other staff So while the headcount for the teachers actually declined, very small amount, less than two hundred over the six year period The employment of non teachers And that would be all over the map Custodians Health workers Specialists All that That increased by fifteen hundred and eighty one During that same period of time, enrollment dropped sixty three thousand. Now that's an enormous decline in six years Remember, and I know I'm giving you a lot of numbers here seven hundred ninety thousand is the current number of total students It was eight hundred fifty four thousand just six years ago So that's a very strong decline off the top of my head about sixcent or seven percent in just six years. and shows every indication of continuing So The number of students declining and declining and declining But the staff tone continues to go up One of the culprits here is COVID And the IRG report goes into that During COVID, the federal government gave schools of additional money and they use that money to hire staff. Some of that money is now drying up The argument was, okay, we have COVID, we have a need for additional staff. We're doing remote learning, so on. alsoso carpet bombed the country with massive amounts of money with his American Recovery Act prorogram And they pumped in all of this money that they said was transitional. they helped the schools Deal with this crisis that was upending things. The probleroblem in government is that you can never do anything temporarily. So they got all of these stuff. They didn't have them before But no they claim they still need them Even though their enrollment is declining The staffers that were supposed to be temporary, they say that they continue to need them. So they don't want to get rid of them. So that means since they're not getting the same federal COVID money to pay for them They're looking to the local taxpayer to carry this or shit of the prop Special needs diagnoses We could go through this forever The number of kids that are being diagnosed as having some sort of a disability almost all cases, they're not physical disabilities. They're learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, any kid that acts up Part of it is The desire on the parts of so many parents to get their kids eligible for SSI, the federal program Well, that means they have to be declared to have some sort of a disability. So that means all the public schools, they have to hire Aditional staff to deal with this supposed disability also The whole thing of kids being on the so called spectrum No one knows if there actually is that much of an increase in autism. I had never heard of autism when I was a kid. Now you might say, yeah well, you were a kid in the Civil War Jason's a little bit younger than me. Do you remember any kids when you were in grade school being autistic M. And again It may be that this condition is increasing all of the reasons that RF K Junr. and others have been focusing on or It may be kids who have different personality quirks are now being classified is somewhere being on the spectrum The truth may be somewhere in between It may well be that a lot of the factors in our society are contributing to children acting in a fashion that appears to be autistic. Nonetheless, they're getting all of these diagnoses And since we know of all these kids diagnosed is this that or the other thing We hire specialists to address this again, these are not teachers But you can see that the schools themselves have a vested interest in classifying as many kids as possible being this disability or that disability because it becomes a reason to hire more people Remember, the private schools are not a profit making organization. prorofit making organizations are constantly cutting staff, cutting staff cutting staff, cutting staff trying to live within their means. The schools don't have any incentive to do that If you're a superintendent, why do you want to cut st that You just want to have a larger and larger empire there In the year twenty ten, now that's a little over fifteen years ago twwelve percent of Wisconsin public school first graders received Disability classification. That still strikes me as shockingly high, but that was twenty ten In twenty twenty, fifteen percent of first graders did In twenty twenty six, nineteen percent of first graders did You see what's happening? This is accelerating Between twenty, ten and twenty We went to fifteen percent to nineteen percent of first the graders classified as having a disability But between twenty, twenty and twenty, twenty six, only six years We went from fifteen to nineteen So this thing is At this rate, and this is not an exaggeration by about twenty fifty five, they're going to claim half the kids have a disability So again, when they claim these things It becomes a rationale to hire more people to address all of these Alleged needs to the report As IRG demonstrated in its COVID nineteen aid report Some districts have passed referenda maintain staff weren't supported by one time federal pandemic aid Districts that did so like Euclair and Wuaatosa Now you're talking here two of the worst school districts in Wisconsin Both are cities that had a history of being rather conservative. both midd sizizeed cities in that fifty to sixty thousand range roughly speaking. think Guaatosa may be a little higher. While W Tosa and E' Clair have both become liberal, for a lot of reasons, the biggesty is overwhelming number of public employees who live there O'Clair is a big university town, has a lot of government workers there And whilea Tosa Now that Milwaukee got rid of the residency rule, the Milwaukee public employees and a lot of the teachers they moved it So they got all of this aid to hire more staff during COVID. But then When they didn't have the money to pay for them anymore, they went to the taxpayers for these massive referendums and they passed. So they keep the massive number of employees, even though the outside aid isn't coming in and the enrollment is going down Districts that did so like Oclar and Wuatosa now face difficult cuts next year. Arts, physical education, elementary education that still leave them with far more staff and fewer students in twenty twenty You know, as I say, this is explaining the entire problem So they pass these referendums, okay, that gets some money for another couple of years to keep paying all of these staffers that they didn't have before. Now that money runs out Now they have to cut And where do they cut arere they cutting all of these additional staff positions that they created before? No, now they're going into actual education. We're going to cut arts teachers and we're going to cut the list here. Fiad teachers, elementary education teachers So the public freaks out they're cutting all of these features And as I said, when I went through these numbers, our actual number of teachers And the term is licensenseed. so that would mean teachers and some of the administrators. thoseose are who are licensed licensed by DPI certification to teach. That number has been flatlined slightly lower than it was a few years ago. But it's all these other staff, specialists building and grounds, this that and the other thing reason our property taxes are so high is because in particular with the schools Local government spends too much money too, but S schoolools spend local government, We're seeing a population increase. so government does have more people to have to tend to, but the schools have fewer people to serve The reason property taxes are so high is because we spend so much damn money on the schools And who's responsible for spending so much money on the schools Public We put these referendum questions on the ballot And most of them pass in this most recent election, a few of them went down. A higher percentage went down than normal. That might be because the way the economy is right now It might be because people are finally saying enough is enough It might be because fewer kids are going to the schools. That means that there are fewer parents that are in the voter block and parents tend to vote for the referendums. don't know But the schools keep crying poor as they keep hiring additional staff. as their enrollment continues to declide One thing I've doubted There is no liberal versus conservative Trend on this Very rare School districts that The voter blaces primarily conservative are just as likely to pass referendums as when they're liberal. Now you take these liberal communities on the restaurant like Stwood. They pass every referendum they put on the ballot But there are some fairly conservative communities that are passing right and left as well Again, you do get the sense that there may be some resistance here, particularly when it comes to these building referendums The Arowhead School District, huge district geographically and population wise in Waucashhaw County They tried to pass a referendum. All they do is run the high school. They don't even run the elementary schools. They tried to pass a referendum to down one of the schools, build the whole thing hundreds of hundreds of millions of dollars. The taxpayer said no to that utterly unnated. The arrowhead school board and administration is constantly crying that they're poor They're not poor Their staffing levels are through the rough They'll claim that they have all of these needs, but are they needs or are they Self created needs What's that That's something that you say you have to do And then turn around and say, now we need money to do this thing that we decided that we had to do Keep classifying students as being this that or the other thing and come up with excuses to hire money to pay money to hire people to provide those services I've made this point a few times I'm going to make it again I wish I remember who told me this, but it's probably multiple people. Somebody Somebody that's in business I think it was construction, but I'm not sure. It might have been computer systems, IT systems. In fact, I think that's what it was. This goes back years back and those of you that are long timee listeners to me have heard me tell the story a zillion times. this is zillion and what guy said When I go into a business to make a proposal on a system upgrade or whatever it is that we do There's usually one person in the meeting and I have to convince that person and they're the project manager overseas and theyre the one that signs off on it And usually what happens is you present to that person and that person goes to their boss and they either say yes or no They'd been to go to the schools, there's always twelve people in the meeting You know, when I do a public records request of something pertaining to the schools You always get like eleven copies of the same record. You know why becausecause that's how many people are se seed on the record In other words, somebody emails someone and nine or ten or eleven other people get copies of that. So when you do the records request, you're getting the copy that went to each of the persons because they all deal with that subject In other words, you have lot everything's done by committees and you have lots of people doing the same thing until there was pressure to get rid of those people You will not see I just quickly off the top of my head and it's really simple bathroom. It's amazing how the numbers work out almost perfectly. It's one for seven seven hundred ninety one thousand, one hundred thirteen thousand I can do that math pretty good in my head. seeven times one hundred and thirteen is almost exactly seven hundred ninety one. So it's almost exactly one employee for every seven students Crazy When you consider, depending on the school, the average classroom is somewhere between eighteen and thirty four. They're all over the map But a lot of them are in the twenties that means, let's imagine that The average class side of Wisconsin is one is twenty five. It may be lower than But if it is, it's going to be in that bub That means you have two people for every teacher No, you may not want to hear that that's the problem, but that's the problem Which brings us now, I always like to use one example. An alicitor has contacted me complaining about this There's a school district in Milwaukee County Greenfield. It happens to be the school district that The IHart Milwaukee headquarters community is based in. constantly asking for referendums. I'm gonna to share a portion of this person's letter because he's specific here to The community of Greenfield and The specifics, probably most of you don't care about because every community has different specifics, but they're all the same rationale that we need more money they're at it again. I live in Greenfield with my wife and four school aged kids Our taxes are insane. We pay eight thousand four hundred dollars a year, grranted our house is a market value of around five hundred thousandars And we're on about an acre of land, but it's still out of control off that two thousand six hundred and fifty goes to Greenfield Schools Last week, the district sent out a feeler survey through the D of See, they hire these companies. There used to be one that did all of them They survey in which they survey the residents of the community. The surveys are never an attempt. this is me now and not the literr. They're never an attempt to find out what people actually think about whether or not the schools need more money. The surveys are an attempt to start convincing people to pass the referendum. Whenever government does this s, it's like Marty Brooks' study over at the convention center You hired a company, Do we need to build do we need a convention center hotel in Milwaukee Of course, they came back and said, we need a convention center hotel. Brors is saying, Oh, I didn't tell them that's what they had to conclude. They always conclude what it is that you want to hear S the down of a group to see if they can ram through more school referendums. The phrasing from the consultant is what ticks me off. They offer up about four options for the taxpayer, saying option one doesn't increase our tax. Options two, three and four increase it modestly by five do, fourteen and nineteen dollars per one hundred thousand dollars of market value respectively. They don't even mention how much our tax would decrease by simply doing nothing And then it goes on and they talk about the number of things that they want to do in that community There is not a school district in the state of Wisconsin. that I'm aware of that needs a tax increase There may be a handful in areas where They were once rural and they're being subdivided like crazy in which The enrollment count is going up ' very rare because even in those areas where there's lots of subdivisions, you're also mitigated against by the rapidly declining birth rate. you may be able to find some where they say, well our enrollment is going up, we need more schools to handle all of this. In fact, in most cases The school districts are so overbuilt that they need to close schools And that's when you get tax parents offten crying, Who don't close the school that my kid goes to? kid goes to the other school gives a crap I always like to count out how many count out up how many kid schools I went to before I graduated from high school, It's amazing I have to keep doing it manually. I went to one school for kindergarten. Another school for the first grade Another school for grades two, three and a portion of four. then another school for grades four through eight, we only moveved once during this and then the same school through high school. Was I traumatized that I didn't move from kindergarten to first grade. they changed the geographic lines. I went to one school for kindergarten and a different school for the first grade. So on After first grade, I went to the Catholic school. Catholic school didn't offer for the first grade. When do that school for grades two, three and the portion of the four Was I Tv it? No In the fourth grade, they They were building a new school. This was the baby. manifestation of the baby boom kids are cranking like crazy and this is when they needed more schools. They built a new Catholic school in the community was it It got finished in the middle of the school year We went to school at a Friday and one school at on the Monday, the kids of us that lived on the south end of town went to the other school I mean, these people are talking, o, you can't close this school. It'll be so traumatic for my kids. We I went from one school to another over a weekend So what? You see my points though until we are willing to address the fact that we have a declining number of users of public schools but a rapid increase in the amount of people that we are hiring to run them. We'll never address the property tax problem Now there's two groups of people out there that complain about property taxes. The people who know that we're spending too much money and vote against all this stuff. And the people complain about the property taxes, but are in favor of spending all the money and vote for all the referendums The second group of you You're full of crap. You're a bunch of photies If your support know this money going into the schools and then turn it around and whinding about your property taxes, you're just a phone Now, if on the other hand, like me, you understand that we are drastically overspending, especially for the schools and that's the reason the property taxes are so high thenen we're on the same page This story is Clearly related That deal that Tony Evers and the Republican legislatative leaders struck to significantly increase public school funding by the state. while at the same time providing Property tax relief and income tax relief It would be property tax relief the state would because of the surplus, kick money into lower property taxes statewide and then also issue three hundred dollars rebate checks to everyone We paid income taxes in the last year. six hundred, a couple, three hundred per person They were able to do this because the state surplus is huge As you probably recall, the deal failed in the legislature. pass the state assembly, so let's focus on the Senate every Democrat in the state Senate voted against it All but three of the Republicans voted for it So All but three Republicans voted yes Every Democrat voted no Evers The governor is a Democrat couldouldn't get a single Democrat in the state Senate. to vote for the bill. It failed by a vote one or two, I'm got a little fuzzy on that Jason, do you have that off the top of your head Anyway, it was either one or two votes. My point is is that if Evers had gotten just a couple of Democrats to vote for this. He doesn't even need all of them or most of them or even half or even a third It passes But he couldn't get any to do it Now over on the Republican side, as I said, three Republicans broke ranks from their leader and voted no So is this the Republicans' fault or the Democrats fault? Well, I think pretty sim it's pretty simple. When you have a compromise deal Evers is a Democrat. The legislative leaders are Republicans. That means members of both parties have to vote for the compromise because there are going to be some in each party that don't like it. Any compromise you do, there are going to be some people that don't like it, and there are some Republicans who thought way too much of this goes to the schools And I wanted it. I think way too much of this goes as I just went through this whole thing. The schools get too damn much money now On the other hand, Tony Evers being the governor and a Democrat is not going to support any tax cuts He's the guy that used his veto pen to create an automatic four hundred year increase in property taxes So the only chance the Republicans are going to get to cut taxes It's the cut a deal in which you can have Evers give more money to the schools and you turn around to give this taxay to taxpayers because we have all this money later Likewise, with regard to the Democrats. The Democrats in the Senate voted against it because not because they're opposed to the aid of the schools They were hacked off that there were any tax cuts in it. they wanted to spend all of it So okay, in order to get this passed, that means Evers has to get some Democrats to vote for it. The Republican leaders get some of their people to get for it and you get more than half Not one Democrat in the Senate voted for it. None. so it fails Over the weekend actuallyct Yesterday, I'm doing this on a Wednesday. came out on a Tuesday. Mark at University laaw School Bool It's the most prominent statewide polling operation. It's operated out of the market University law school. It's run by Charles Franklin They surveyed Wisconsin Nights on whether or not they wanted the deal to pass I don't think I've ever seen a Marquette Lwpool this lapsated and anything ever eighty percent supported That means eighty percent didn't get what they wanted. It was across the board The numbers were differed by a percentage or two moreore than eighty percent of Republican support, I don't have the exact number front. It was right around eighty percent both of Republicans, Democrats, and independents First of all, everybody, especially in the economy right now with gas prices, want of the rebate checks. For the people who payid property taxes, they're screaming for any kind of relief And then the people that support all this money for the schools, When are they going to get the Republicans to commit to hundreds of millions more in school aid Yet the deal failed This brings us to the question of who's going to be harmed by the legislature not passing something that eighty percent supported Some believe the big losers are going to be state assembly Republicans, why Assembly Republicans, they all wanted it And even some assembly Democrats wanted it. because But while it passed their chamber, it didn't pass in the Senate because it didn't pass. They can't run around as they run for reelection holding all these rebate checks and saying, I did this, I did this, I did this Even though they wanted to do it and they controll the assembly, they now lose the ability brag about this great thing that they got done over in the state Senate Half the members of the Senate up for election We have the redrawn legislative districts that now favor the Democrats Will a Republican that voted for this benefit Well the Democrat that voted against it Suffer. Now again, many of them live in resideing districts that are not close. They're either very Democratic or very Republican districts, but in the swing districts, there's probably going to be a ramification here. Did the Democrats cost themselves a chance to take control of the state Senate by some Democratic senators. killing this deal Mabbe. But now There's the Tiffany fact Tom Tiffy, Republican candidate for governor is not by the way. I forget which station it was. There was one of the TV stations's websites said that Tiffany voted against this deal. Tiffany's not in the legislature. He had no vote. He's in the Congress he did oppose the deal urge Republicans to vote against it By the way, none of them listed to you As I said, there were only three Republicans that opposed it and I think all three of them would have voted no regardless of what Tom Tiffany had to say Steve Noss is two of the senators who left R lame Ducks are not running for reelection. Steve Noss is one of them that he isn't going to vote for anything that spends more money on the schools You have Rob Hutton, who's Waatosa Brookfield. He's not running for reelection Neith of them are going to be impacted by anything that Tiffany says. Chris Capping is the final one, very conservative guy I don't think Tiffany's position is the reason he voted against it But There are many and I'm one of them, I think that this was a terrible miscalculation by Tiffany even though the Democrats primarily killed this bal I'm just I'm telling you right now, this is what's going to happen I'm never wrong, by the way, about these things. Jason, you're a talk show host, you can mark this down and steal my point and just claim that you came up to you on your own. steal it like two months ag now. When we get to the general election, which will be after the August primary and which got all these Democrats running I guarantee you The Democrats are going to run ads attacking Tom Tiffany running for governors saying Tom Tiffany is the reason you didn't get a tax cut Even though all the Democrats voted against it They're going to blame it on Tiffany because he opposed it always concerned about who Republican candidates hire as their advisors The reason I'm concerned about this is There's not a much dumber group of people in America than the people who serve as consultants and advisors for Republican candidates for public office Few of them are very good Most of them are bad and some of them stink Tiffy actually could have gotten away with saying nothing because he's not involved in this. He's not in the legislature and he's not the governor But he shot off his mouth and said, vote against it. Now again, I don't think he had anything to do with them killing it, but this is what their ad is going to be now that especially they know that everybody wanted this thing passed Wh's who the political blame goes to for not passing something that apparently everybody wanted? Well, twenty percent didn't want is On its face, you would think that the blame would go too the Democrats since they were the ones that opposed it, but In the minds of the voter oute there, but at Tony Eberts is a Democratic. it was his plan compomplicated I think Tom Tiffany is a spectacular candidate for governor for all of the reasons that I've gone through. The Democrats are nominating a Marxist. In Wisconsin, Republicans cannot afford to make what I will call unforced errors Is that a tennis term Unfce their Yeah. I think, you know, if you like miss your serve or something or you've got a clean it's not because the other player made a great shot your volly just misses and goes out of bounds. It's an unforced err Tiffany didn't need to get involved in something like this that if he was, he should have and again This isn't rocket science Why wouldn't most people who are taxpayers now again, if you're very ideologically driven like me. You can rule the dice and say Maybe Tiffany's gonna to win, we keep control of the legislature. We'll take the whole surplus for tax relief and stop giving any of it to the schools But this was one of those deals and it happens when you got a lot of money laying around and we have a lot of money laying around because we're taxing people too much in which you can give one side what they want and both sides what they want. and nobody paid anything. That's why people supported this. If this was like lowering one tax and raising another to pay for more money for the schools, but for the people who are going to get the property tax relief, do they wish that it was more? Yeah, but they're not going to say I don't want this money and I don't want the rebate check. And likewise the people support the schools, G' take all this money So again, if you're somebody in to get the Democrats that voted against this, they think they're going to win the governorship. They think they're going to take over the legislature. They're full of themselves right now. And maybe they will. And they think, okay, we'll pass the whole thing and we'll just spend all of it and give it all to the schools We want to do it, and that's where they're coming from. That's why they all voted no And I think from the perspective of Tiffany Remember, Tiffity belie if Tiffity wins, he doesn't want this surplus all gone. He wants to come in and use it for tax relief when he's the governor. Pty might not win And by opposing this now I think it's going to be used against him Albeit unfairly because as I say, I don't think the Tom Tiffany had anything to do with this thing failing because only three Republicans voted against it and I don't think He was the reason that any of them voted against it. Let me move to this story Ted Oswald Top killer This is one of the most famous cases in southeastern Wisconsin in the last fifty years. I still remember the afternoon that I was doing the show. It happened in the morning in Walkahaw It was a bank robbery. They turned into a police pursuit of the two suspects and then a shootout involving the police and the suspects. A police officer was killed C captain from Walkashha, city of Walkasha, not Walkashhaw County, although multiple jurisdiction were responding, It was a Walkashhaw police captain James Lutz, who was shot and killed The two robbers were our father and son, James and Ted Oswald. Ted is the son He's now fifty It tells you how long ago this happened? wasas ninety four. Yeah, nineteen ninety four Ted Oswald is asking to have his sentence commuted Hannah hiss father Wisconsin, for those of outside of Wisconsin, does not have the death penalty. So they were both sentenced to life in prison without parole Tony Evers signed an executive order a few weeks ago And an executive order.' the same thing Trump uses all the time An executive order has the effect of law if there is no law on the books that addresses the issue Evers signed an executive order giving him the authority to commute Sentences. what does commuta sense? Ended So while we got rid of foraro all in Wisconsin Evers is creating this other concept, commutation It's like a pardon Cutation means I'm not pardoning you. I'm just letting you out Pardon and you know, public officials have their philosophy on this Obama had a zillion pardons. Clinton had azillion pardons, Trump has azillion pardons Scottalker, when he was the governor knew how many pardons he issued, none, he didn't believe in him Pardon nobody These are not pardons, they're commutations. commutation is exactly this. Let's suppose you've served you're sentenced to life, you've served thirty one years, you're commuted doesn't mean you're not guilty. It means you just get to get out Evers, with an executive order, signed himself the ability to do this People that have these life without parole type sentences are often not just regular Certain murders just become more horrifying than others Broo, for exam Well, a lot of the cop killing sentences are along these lines. Ted Oswald is claiming I was under the sway of my father. I was just a kid. He was nineteen etcetera. now I' a different guy and so what. So he's asking Evers to commute his sentence Now that Evers has signed this thing, giving himself this authority Here's another thing. I'm just going to tell you right now and I'm going to guarantee it with my reputation You you know when Evers is going to do these computations You all ought to know this, but there's a reason why I'm doing the podcast and you're all just measly listeners to the podcast. and that is because I know the answer. We're really smart people. When Back when I did the radio show, you could call it, this is when the lights would be lighting up the people trying to claim that they knew the answer. I would often pick on my former producer, Paul and say, do you know what he's going to do? Paul would not of course. know, the answer, but there's again a reason I'm in here and he was in there. So here's the answer After the November election, Tony Evers is going to hand down commutations like crazy. becausecause there's nothing anybody can do about it. Eords is a lame duck. he's not running for reelection anyway, but If he issued the commutations now, they could become a campaign issue for whomever the Democrat is that's running They could become a campaign issue in which Republicans use against Democrats running for the legislature byy Evers waiting until that period. And again, it's just like the president. We swear in the new governor of Wisconsin The first business day we don know presresident is january twentieth, The governor of Wisconsin is the first business day after New Year's Day. That's when the governor swned The election is the first Tuesday in November that gives you about eight weeks in November and December That's when Evers is going to do the commutations. So they're all, anybody who's eligible is now requesting. why wouldn't you? You thought you were doomed, You thought you were in the jug for the rest of your life. and now Evers has given himself this power. And why would he give himself that power unless he intended to use it I don't know if Oswald specifically will be let out was one of the most heinous cases imaginable kill the cop because you wanted to get away with robbing a bank. I mean, they robbed the bank. The cops came upon them. They weren't going to get away with rather than go to jail for robbing the bank Wh is a pretty significant sentence, but it's that life They got in the shootout with the cop and killed the police officer justust because they weren't willing to do time for robbing the bank. It's what of I'm not saying that murder ever has any justification, but there's no mitigation here This wasn't somebody enraged with a spouse or a bad marriage or This was, I don't want to go to prison for ten years. I'm going kill the cop was trying to apprehend me You are listening to the what knownly Mark Belling podcast If you've got a great looking car and you want it to look like its very best self, do what I did and take it to Charisma Customs. I wanted to protect my vehicle without doing a lot of maintenance. Charisma Customs makes it simple prrotection film for chips, ceramic coating for long term shine, and ceramic tint for comfort and privacy. You'll be stunned by the finished result Mine looks better than the day I bought it Charisma Customs in Delafield If you want your vehicle done, right? This is the Mark Belling podcast. I want to revisit a topic. We discussed, I don' remember what it was. It wasn't yet this year. It was in a season one There are different times in which this kind of topic comes up and I'm going to use a specific example here Let's imagine you live in any community, any city that you want to head Just about every city borders another city. Sometimes it borders a rural area So it's one or the other. You'll have to orordder something. When I lived in Kokana when the north side of town boordered Little shoot The Sou S of Tone bordered Kimberly And the east side of town. bered farms. That was undeveloped area, but on the other side, there were two other municipalities Combined Locks got itself in there as well. Believe it or not, Combined Locks is a suburb of Kimberlyy. You wouldn't think that Kimberley could have a suburb, but that's what combined Locks is. Let's imagine I'll just use the example of the north side of Kakana orre on the Kakana little shoot line Let's imagine Little shoot decides they want to approve something right on their side of the line Now let's go to Milwaukee and Wakasaw Cy one hundred twenty fourth street. is the dividing line between Milwaukee and Waucashhaire Counties on the west side of Milwaukee east of Waucashhaire O a stretch of that East sideide one hundred twenty fourth Street You know, these side of the street Isuava Tossa You cross the street, you're at Brookfield. You go further up in there are other communities Let's imagine Brookfield decides they want to do something on the west side of the street You live on the east side of the street. What say do you have it it Nothing becausecause you don't live there. This is quite an interesting story. Now what happens when you've got two communities that are butting up against one another And one community green lights and goes ahead with something that the other community really doesn't want. Should an adjacent community have any input? on something that goes on in the other community I've been contacted by and the story is being raised in news coverage. It's been covered quite extensively in southeastn Wisconsin. It's the Breck complex It's to be located in Big Bed We're talking here in area of southern Wauckashaw County This is an area that yearsars ago was Very rural Not just farmland rural, often woods rural But Wauckashha County is booming. The sprawl that has occurred there is is this kind of story that's happening all over the United States. This portion of Waucashhaw County is going from almost entirely undeveloped to rapidly becoming developed There are a lot more people that live there, but there are still some areas that are not developed. But when you have people that are out there in these areas and we're now talking a pretty good chunk away from the city of Milwaukee They want to have facilities and things to do. and often it means retail comes in. The retail though usually occurs along a main drag and people on the you know, like For example, in Wackashaw Cy, lots of stuff J just north and south of Interstate ninety four There isn't much residential right on the interstate But now let's talk about getting away from it a bit The proposal in Big Bend is for an enormous sports complex These things there' been a there's already a couple of them in our area and They're popping up all over the United States, baseball complex, stuff like that The complex could, theoretically in the future contain more than just sports could and this isn't in the proposal have an entertainment portion of it and so on This is similar to, but the same as what's going on in Franklin. Franklin has this big athle and entertainment complex called the Rock And the people in Franklin love the rock, and a lot of people in Soueast of Wisconsin love the rock. It's a great facility peopleople live right near the rock can't stand all the noise and the traffic from the concerts and the events. They don't like it. But if you live two miles away, it's great to have something this close. Well, now let's go here in that community. all the people involved are from Franklin This proposal is to build The sports complex Right next, I would make fun of the name B Ben, but as I say, I live four months of the year in Florida and The names of our communities down there are humiliatingly stupid I live in Sunny Isles Beach Yousually look at the ones that are around. someome of the ones that are llando have o names like Kassimi, that's a good I'm assuming Native American name, but a lot of these communities at Florida will have names that make it sound like they're Arizona is the worst. They're like Paradise Valley and Sun City. Anway You know why they call it big bed. Somewhere on there some river took a bed. Big bed. Next to big bend is Vernon rather rural, undeveloped, still rather quiet area. The residents of Vernon Also the residents of the village of Wakashhaw. Now this is not to I just I think we should pass alw Wisconsin that you can't have two communities with the same name. It gets confusing. The city of Waucashhaw, they're not involved in this Some of the area to the outside of Wuashha is the village of Waucasha. It used to be the town they incorporated aop annexations. So the village of Wakashhaw is largely a rural area outside of Wakashhaw. The other community is the village of Vernon People who live in that portion of the village of Waucasha and the village of Vernon going nuts over this proposal in big bad They don't want it But It's not in Vernon. It's not in the village of Waucashaw It's in big bed And they are appealing to someone, anyone to assist them in stopping this. They're saying this is way too big for this part of the region I'm going to share one listener's email to me. won't read his name I don'd like to do I was a huge fan of your radio show for many years and now an avid podcast listener. It's very nice for him to say, couldould be tactical. This is his way of trying to get me on his side nice to say I wanted to ask if you were aware, I am aware Of a very large sports complex planned for the village of Big Bed and a parcel of property bordering two other communities, the village of Waash on the village of Vverded The planed development is enormous You don't some people exaggerate that word. It's really, it is really big Quick online search, and he's right. this has been widely cou And you can find all the details. What amazes me is how a three person planning commission in a neighboring community ve a project which is going to impact so many homeowners who live in neighboring communities the vast majority of which are not in favor of the development. Now you raises some points in many of our smaller communities around here You don't have the same, and it's a good thing. You don't have the same infrastructure of government For example, city of Brookfield I mean Brookfields a city There's a full time mayor. Sicky's full time City council, large members and they've got lots of city commissions Brookfield being a very developed community. They've got zoning. There's all sorts of questions over mixed use. They got a city plan and they have this sideed the other thing Some of the smaller communities that we have obviously have smaller staffs and they have small boards Apparently, the planning commission in Big Bend is three people They approve this you're giving a lot of power small planning boards and small village boards In this case though The thing that's frosting the other people is they're not even in that community and they see these three people over there in Big Ben and you could say, well, what's it for Big Ben? Well guess it's in it for B big Band Everybody's got high property taxes. You get all this development in here. Maybe they believe that this development is going to result in an increase in the property base. They can therefore tax the individuals that are coming in and the developments that will occur to lower their own taxes But it doesn't lower the taxes of the two adjacent communities because the property taxes aren't paid to them. They're only paid to big bet What amazes me is how a three person planning commission in a neighboring community prorove a project which is going to impact so many homeowners who live in neighborh communities, the vast majority of which are not favor of the development. Residents in Wakasha, he means the village of Waasha and Vernon, don't view this as your typical knot in my backyard opposition The proposed location of this development is a mostly rural area It's not meant to improve the lives of local residents posossibly it ces future tax revenue for Big Bend at what cost to it and neighboring communities It's been reported that many studies, traffic, noise pollution and others have been bypassed a fast track development I can't verify that, but the entire proposal seems odd. I would love to hear from you on this. Well Various news reports and I have a story here from TMJ four, Fx six and so on The residents of Big Bnd apparently are split. Now again, this is according to reporting, I've read that. I've not done any independent reporting of my own So big band is split But the other two communities are overwhelmingly opposed I'm not proposing a position on this, but I think it's an interesting thing to consider. Should residents of adjacent communities have any say in these kinds of things No, normally I would say clearly not. Wala Tosa doesn't get to stop Brookfield from doing what Brookfield wants to do because Watosa is at Brookfield. And Let's imagine Elm Grobe wants to do something, should Brookfield which borders Elm Grobe be able to stop that If the United States wants to do something, should Canada be able to stop us comomes, however So I mean, I think that principle is pretty unarrguable If you live in a community, you should be able to control what goes on in your community. But when something happens right on a border And that something is something that's huge and radically alters the way of life of the region. You know? community line maybe at a certain place, but you're talking about a way of life and the kind of setting that you're in The sports complex is so large. it's not going to be for the people of Big Ben. They'll be part of those that use it, but this is going to attract Young people in athletic groups and all the people that are could use a sports complex from all over southeastern Wisconsin No there's a tremendous desire for these things Anywhere you go in the country, you see these big sports complexes way away from cities in metro areas. The first thing that has to happen is they've got and you might say, well, why don't they do it in a more developed area If you want to do something this big, you have to take something that currently isn't used for anything You can't go into the city of Waucasha and buy up a huge chunk of land of stuff that's already being used. What's going to be easier to develop is something that's currently only farmland or woods So it's going to be in an undeveloped area This is the same argument that occurs all the time with sprawl. I mean, you go back forty and fifty years, people who first the first ones to move to Brookfield, they were moving to farm fields Brookefield is now as urban as the city of Milwaukee is A lot of people who move to an area that's relative you see the same argument out there in the Sussex area West Bnds a slinger of Richfield and so on, the community south of West Bend. All of these debates go on. People want to get away from all the hustle, bustle the noise of the city. But once they get there, they want to be the last one who comes and the next thing you know You're sitting at the stop and go lighted slinger for five minutes rather than fifteen seconds because there's way more people there But at least in those instances, sllinger can decide what's in slinger And mononominey Falls can decide what's in mononominey falls When something is right on the line and completely changes the atmosphere of the area It certainly can be and I'm sure in Big Ben itself, this is pitting people against one another. Some who live there wanted, some don't And usually the way it works is if you live a mile and a half away, you're completely in favor of it. If you live right next door, you totally don't want it. But imagine the people who are griping here, but have no say at all Should they have a say It's hard for me to figure out how we can properly allow them a say I mean, the borderline is the borderline On this side of the line is the other community commommunities should be able to determine their fate, but I understand it The difficulty for people who Their own community doesn't want to have any kind of development. They want to keep things the way they are but right next door to them Somebody's trying to turn it into a metropolis. Let's go to Texas We have yet another case of a Republican incumbent, in this case, a United States Senator thrown out of office. And once again It was the Trump endorsed candidate who beat him Now there's an asterisk to this I think Trump endorsed Bill Pxton the winner when he figured out the paxs that was going to win anyway Corn and John Coran is a longime senator from Texas. Remember Senators serve six year terms I won't say he's a writo. But he's certainly not MGa He has voted with the president I would say at almost, not everything, almost everything There are a couple of issues though in which she hasn't And One of the things that's stuck in Trump'craw which again, you go back to january sixth of twenty twenty Cnn was not one of those who voted to convict and remove Trump from office, but he did criticize Trump Trump is still furious over thee. False blame that he got for january sixth So okay, now here's Paxton. he's the attorney general of Texas He's more of a Mga type Republican than Ctnon You can even see it by looking at them. Cornon looks like he walks straight out of the country cllub. I mean, he can't help, but that's how he looks. Packaxs it looks like he walks straight out of a Magga. Pxton has baggage He's very controversial in Texas But he's really loved by the majority of conservatives Packson decides I'm going to run against Cornet In Texas, they have the runoff system in their primaries. You have to get fifty percent of the vote in order to win So there were more than the two of them running. There were some also rans in there as well. So they held the primary. Nobody got over fifty percent of the vote, but corning Paxton, that's the challenge you got more than corornon So they have a runoff, a head on head primary The only two that are on the ballot are packed and inced A couple of weeks ago, Trump endorsed Paxton Pxton was leading in the pools, but it was close I believe that Trump endorsed Paxton because he thought Paxton was going to win. so let's get Paxton on his side and p credit when Paxton does win that they held the election Despite what the poll said it wasn't close packed and destroyed courorded He beat him by twenty six points So Paxon is going to be the Republican nominee for the United States Senate. Once again I acknowledge I don't think that Trump gets the credit for Paxton winning. I think Pxton was going to win anyway I think Trump is responsible for the margin The poulls were two, three, four, five points. It was twenty six Again, I think that for all of the arguments that are coming from some on the right that Trump has lost the mega base and the Republicans have turned their backs on Trump The Trump endorsement is still golden in Republican primaries keeps beating the people. mostly these old bull establishment types that he doesn't like A week earlier in Kentucky, the exact opposite Paper Republican. Thomas Massey was, if anything consonservative for Trump. He was a purist libertarian and didn't and thought that Trump was model, you know, moving too much in the middle of certain things, didnn't support the war, etcetera Mancy became one of these who was just always voting against Trump, claiming that Trump was selling out Mega supported the opponent to Masssei. Masy lost If you're a Republican who bucks Trump, the majority of Republican voters are going to throw you out Here's what's problematic Texas isn't a swing state, but it's getting there What's happening in Texas is you have such a migration inward from California and other places There are so many major universities goovernment institutions and so on Texas presents an outstanding way of life Big cities in Texas are deemocratic Dallas and Houston in particular are very democratic cities San Antonio Lesso But some of these metro areas in the suburbs of some of these communities, the same kind of suburbanites you say have on our north shore here Then you add in the large immigrant population includcluding some illegals. It's not allowed legal for them to vote, but they may be voting Texas is going from say a sixty forty Republican state. Ted Cruz ran for reelection in the most recent election. I think he wentin by about seven or eight points when Trump defeated Kamala This is off the top of my head. It was it was it was not close. I think it was like ten or eleven points But it wasn't like a thirty nine or forty point kind of state. It's the type of state where the Democrats have been getting closer and they think that they could win They believe that Paxton has who has baggage And it hass made a number of statements that are clearly more mega than say Cornyan will alienate some suburban voters. They're going to portray him as extreme. There are some who are concerned Texas could go Democrat It's the same concern that occurred in Georgia Georgia another state that had been solidly Republican has been becoming Democratic over the years. Both United States Senators from Georgia Democrat. You saw the whole disastrous election that occurred in twenty twenty there the Trump lost. They had to have two run offffs. They had two seats at the same time because there was a vacancy Republican candidates were unpopular. They lost both of the seats Republicans have a have had a hard time putting up candidate who can appeal to the swing voters If you have an overwhelmingly Republican state, you don't need to worry about swing voters. but when you have a state Like Georgia, you need somebody Wisconsin's the same thing You need a Republican who has the ability to get moderates to vote for you. And the Democrats need the same thing Democrat has to be able to get moderates to vote for them It's certainly possible that by choosing Paxton the Republicans could lose the seat. On the other hand, if Paxton wins You'll get someone who is more solidly pro Trump in that seat than they had with Cornin So without regard to who strategically you should have voted for, The takeaway from it again is obvious. If Trump is opposing you in a Republican primary, you are probably going to lose And again, without regard to what anybody thinks about the war or anything else pertaining to Trump. I'm just reporting what's happening here. endndse someone the vast majority of Republicans are going to back the candidate Trump endorses, even if it was someone that they had voted for repeatedly in years past All right, now this The loose You know what the loose is I asked Jason You're doing as badly on these questions as Paul, but I'm part of it is I ask the question but I don't think that you're going to know the answer You just still look to me like a Ferrari guy. You're not a Ferrari guy, are you If you had the money, would you be a Ferrari guy you wouldn't be See, Ferraris are like First of all, not only cannot most people not afford them, they're also a cult If you see somebody who drives a Ferrari, I'm just telling you car before that was a Ferrari and the one before that was a Ferrari. Obviously, there's the first one. But the people who buy Ferraris almost always stick with Ferraris forever. partart of it is Ferray is a brilliantly running company they Obviously, they're not a mass marketer But they limit their production They limit it enough that they can make money. It's large enough that they can make money, but they make the cars hard to get. often to buy a new Ferrari. You have to already own a Ferrari to get on the allocation for the next car When they introduce a car, there's often a waiting list of year to eighteen months for you to get in line to get the car. and often you have to be a Ferrari owner to get in line for that vehicle So they develop tremendous loyalty over the years and undeniably it's a great product like every other automobile maker And a lot of the exotic automobile makers are embracing electric My own belief is that the electric vehicle thing. which certainly had peaked a year and a half ago is going to have another boom if gas prices are this high by the end of the year And again, I think they're going to go down. I think theyll go down when the war is over, but I'm not convinced of that. I could be wrong If gas prices drop like say ck a quarter a gallon by the end of the year, I don't think that this is going to do anything for electric vehicles. If they stay where they are the EV thing is going to kick in again And you saw, you know, the big push that occurred with Tesla occurred when you had the really, really high of gasoline prices that were in place under By Then gas prices crashed. And suddenly, people didn't think gasoline powered cars are all that bad after all Now gas prices have exploded again on the high end of the market, all the automakers are including electric vehicles in their line. Mercedes is a bunch of them Porsche has a bunch of them and the reason for them is These vehicles, I mean, Syle and power is their whole thing EV technology is simply superior to gasoline technology The EVs don't require a transmission that spurts in this amount of power and that amount of power, it can apply instantly You don't have to have a gasoline engine. electric vehicle has almost infinite amounts of battery power. and the if they're trying to create these vehicles that just go really, really fast. It's a better way of doing it than the gasoline engines On the other hand, many people who drive cars like Ferrari and Porsches. They like the gasoline powers vehicles just fine, so you have to offer both Ferrar has never had an EV Until now They're naming it the loose Now you might say that's a dumb name. See, if you're an exotic car company though Every name they choose seems to be a dumb name because they want to have a name that doesn't sound like anything else Some of the some of the exotic car companies they just have letters for their names. likeike all the Mercedes cars arere just letters A lot of our letters. BMWs are numbers Ferrari though always has a name. the loose One of the things that has made Ferrari Ferrari. You know, they're Italian. The Italians are just great It stuffs that looks good I mean, they are. I mean, if you Italian food not only tastes great, it looks good on the plate Italian clothing, the menswear, the Italian arch, Italian art, anything that's visual, the Italians excel at and Ferraris are beautiful vehicles Here's the loose I hate to be one of those people that because everybody says something's ugly, I'm going to say it's ugly. A lot of people are like that They don't have any taste of their own. so when people say something is ugly, they just jump in and say, yeah, it's ugly or the opposite When everybody says something is attractive, they'll say that it's attractive because they don't know any better. The Lse is being ridiculed for its appearance You're going to have to look this up online and you can all do it.'ve just I am astonished by this. This is You know, a lot of times when you create a new look on something It's just that it's jarring. and a few years later every automaker has turned out copying you. You know, BMW got a lot of heat years ago for the bangled butt on their vehicles putting this big inflated rear end On the c from Chris Bangle who went to school at Wisconsin He was the design chief for BMW and they put this big rear end kind of the softened curves and the BMWs weren't boxy anymore. That every luxury maker or. Banggal got fired, but He turned out to be ahead of his time because that type of look on the cars continued forever Same thing' happened with regard to the grills that You know, Toyota and Lexas started to put in like this mean looking grill and people thought it was too mean looking and now every grill is aggressive. So you can create a look on a vehicle that is just too it's occurring before you're used to it and five years later you become accustomed to it because everybody's copied it I suppose that could happen or I'm just telegoop This is one of the ugliest c The one the Wall Street Journal has here It's like a light it's a Cross between pink and purple. so the color is weird to begin with But the grill on it is, remember, electric vehicles don't need an air intake. So if they create a grill, it's just for looks. You know, Tesla has no grill. Tesla just decided, you know, Musk's who makes his vehicles to look all like one another and they're very utilitarian. Tesla's all look to me just generic, but that's the look that he's looking for. He's not doing this for style. He's doing it for the purposes of just making a superior automobile Well, Ferrari, part of their whole thing is look, so it's not really a grill. It's just like there's a fold, an indentation in the front of the car that creates an appearance of being a grill And then the front windshield goes almost all the way covering where the hood is. so there's like glass over the top. remember because there's not An engine in there it's not covering anything. Then there's this side thing C is being mocked and ridiculed online It's so bad that yesterday and again, I'm doing the podcast on Wednesday, Ferrari stock went down like five percent For all of these exotic car manufacturers, their growth is going to be in EV's There's very little reason that anybody kn's going to come around Its they're driving Ferraris or porsches and so on In order to get a newer market, they've got to add something they don't currently have and match what everybody else is doing and have an electric vehicle as part of their offering And it seems like people on the very higher end are more into electric vehicles than on the lower end There are certainly, I think, way more People that spend one hundred thousand dollars on a car interested in buying an EV then somebody spends twenty seven thousand dollars on a car And Ferrari doesn't have that many models. This one is apparently so ugly that people think it's going to be the one Ferrari that won't sell. We'll see whether or not it does or it does. There's a photo here of They gifted one of them to Pope Leo. think of the pulp Why would you give the pope a Ferrari Well, they are. I've just Is this all here. you got Pope Leo standing next to a Co of Ferrari. and then the loose. So you can look at it up and decide for yourself, but I agree with the critics. I think it's pretty ugly. You're listen to Mark Belling podcast How much would it take for you to be wealthy and financially comfortable Schwab recently asked Americans that question. mostost said at least two million dollars You might have a different number for yourself. Makes sense, since you have your own ideas about travel, retirement, and the legacy you want to leave. That means you need custom advice building a personalized plan. The team at Annex Wealth Management is ready to listen and help. Annex Wealth Management, give them a call. K the difference. This is the Mark Beelling podcast We are in the early stages of this story So it's hard to see how it's going to play out, but it is certainly possible the Green Bay Packers have lost one of their best players. Josh Jacobs The star running back, one of the best running backs in the National foootball League was arrested and is now criminally charged over the weekend in Green Bay with domestic abuse Jacobs through his attorney is adamantly Denying No, it isn't a specific denial and we're not going to see that. until the case moves forward if it moves forward Is he denying all of it? some of it Or is he saying I wasn't the aggressor? donon't know The Packers have OTAs this week.s it's not like training cap. A couple of times a year the players come and have like team workouts and so on. And that's why they're all up in Green B acccording to the criminal complaint. or at least the charging information that's been released so far Jacobs is accused of domestic abuse in connection with an incident that occurred over the weekend Among the charges that are against him are strangulation, Criminal damage to property intntimidating a victim Battery, disorderly conduct, and then strangulation and suffocation There's no specific on it yet in which it's specifically and again, I'm doing this podcast on Wednesday afternoon. There's nothing that specifically describes how he supposedly suffocated and strangled We don't have a defense of him other than his attorney saying he denies all of it Is this going to be a case of sexual contact in which there's discussion over consensual or not Is the suffocation strangulation? Is Jacob's going to claim that this is like a sex game kind of thing that People do Or is he going to claim it never happened at all and the victim is making it up Now we certainly know that there are cases like this where athletes are accused of things that they don't do There are also cases like this in which athletes do terrible things to women because they think they can get away with anything We don't know which of the two it's going to be If Jacobs takes a conviction as some other athletes have done, he's facing the likelihood of a lengthy suspension from the NFL But these cases have been handled all over the map in many instances. player and the victim reach an accommodation out of court and the charges get dropped because the victim no longer cooperates. If that happens, would it impact any NFL action with regard to Jacobs. Again, none of this we know. we also don't know if it is indeed a true allegation. I don't know. There there are almost no specifics here at all. And again, there may be by the time you hear this, but I haven't seen a specific criminal complaint. that describes exactly how any of it occurred The allegations he faces are obviously Serious now some of these terms battery that's a very broad category Is this beating the hell out of someone or is it shoving them around Again, don't know Is it a push? Or is it a smack the strangulation of suffocation There are different degrees of that. We just don't know the answer to that. I think Jacobs has struck most people as being A pretty decent and a good guy, but When you get involved in these situations We also don't know At least I don't at this point nott know if the victim is someone that he is had a known long term relationship with Or is it somebody that he met that night And again, the denial that came from the lawyer very, very strong terms, total denial There aren't any specifics about the incident or a specific kind of explanation by Jacobs as to what occurred. If the case does go forward, which means that the victim has to continue to cooperate in as we all know in many of these cases, they stop cooperating often because A settlement has been reached justust don't know how it's going to play itself out. Not other stores Milwaukee Bwers are playing very, very well. The brewer's manager is Everybody loves Pat Murphy, I think in part because of this. The brewers on Tuesday night Speak the Stt Louis Cardinals behind yet another strong pitching performance this one from I Kyle Harrison I think it's possible that trade is going to go down as the best trade in the history of the Milwaukee Bwers possible. The Brewer's got Kyle Harrison, Shane Grohan, who's also been pitching very good and David Hamilton who at the moment is the starting third baseman. for three bad third basem for the key man that they gave up was Caleb Durbin who is Just a disaster. Caleb appears to be a one year wonder. He's hitting one hundred sixty for Boston with one home run Playing better as the other third baseman in the trade. Andrew Monstterio is now starting over Durban in Boston. He's hitting around two hundred fifty And they threw in another third baseman named Anthony Sigler So the brewers throughre three cast off third baseman and they got one of the best pictures in baseball and Kyle Harrison, somebody who looks like he's going to be really good and Shane Drohan and at least a serviceable third baseman until they can get somebody better and David Hamilton. anyyway, Brewers won the game After Uay, Star relief beefitcher came in in the athetic. Now, apparently there was some history to this, which led to the incident Ybay allowed a couple of runners to get on base with a couple of outs, and then he struck out the final guy to retire the side And after he struck out, for those of you who don't know your rebay I've just s in watching, I think he's nuts. I just think he's nuts, but kind of nuts in a good way. Some relievers are crazy And Yurebebe has this. He's very flamboyant out there in the mound. The way that he holds his glove and some of the histriotics that he has. He's flamboy He also is one of these guys that celebrates a lot after and out. Well, in this instance He did. It's described as a WWE like Sratch What did they call it a crotch Cotch dagger. So I guess he like you went to he's got us moving toward his crotch. throwing shoveving his hands towards his crotch and And what are those things you see some people? The manager of the brewers, Pat Murphy, ripped him after the game saying he can't stand it. He said that Ubeay embarrassed himself and embarrassed the team A few hours later, Yurbebe apologized said he shouldn't have done. of There are many managers who will call out their player for doing something like this after their player actually was successful, but Murphy's really old school He's one of these guys who's willing to say that somebody made a jackass out of himself. but he said that's what Yveay did Yurbebe did say, however, that there was some history to this and I just figured that there had to be because I've never seen Ybebe do this. He usually does the fist pumper puts his hand under his glove and so on I've never seen him like jumping around grabbing the crotch or anything like that Uurebe said prior to the game The cardinalss manager Carlos Marmal got into it with some brewers and was gesturing toward players before the game implying that he was going to throw at their heads. Brewer Cardinal rivalry is one that's had a fair amount of history to it I don't know if that's true or not and Murphy said he wasn't sure about it, but Ubeay said it happened and I'm going to take care of it and defend my guys There was also a situation where somebody had a pitch thrown close to their head In baseball now you're just and part of it is everybody throws harder than they used toid throwing at somebody's head and brushing somebody back used to be part of the game and now people take incredible offense at it and so on. You learned a lot about Pat Murphy by the fact that he's not going to tolerate guys doing something like this and Ubeay apologized. As I do this program, the Chicago Cubs have now lost ten games in a row The cubs have played exactly one third of their season It is almost mathematically impossible for this to be true, but it is. in one third of a season The cubs have had two ten game winning streaks And one ten game losing streak First of all, it's just hard to win or lose that many games in a row anyway. Secondly, they're doing it over a universe of only fifty four games, but thirdly. If you're good enough to win Kenon a row twice, you wouldn't think it's possible you could be bad enough to lose tenenon a row only a few weeks later They've gone from first place to last place and the losing streraak now as I do this podcast that Wednesday afternoon stands at ten. I have a suggestion I believe If the cubs lose two more games All of their stupid fans have to come to Wisconsin and buy us hamburgers I suppose they'll make them white castles. We have our promotion that if the brewers ever win twelve it or we get free hamburgers from George Webb So if the cubs lose twelve in a row, I think that they have to come up here end Give us hamburgers. Having said that, that probably means that streeak is going to end tonight and I put a reverse jinx in the cubs in. They'll come around and win. If they don't start winning, I do wonder Craig Cnsel is in trouble down there There's a lot of complaining from their fans about councsel who is the highest paid manager in major League baseball history Infuriated brewer fans when he left the brewerers to Take it. forty million dollars contract over five years with the Cubs It turned out to be one of those things that was a blessing in disguise. I mean, Bwer fans love Murphy The brewers have been better since cououncil has gone I'm open to the possibility that the success that Craig had at Milwaukee was because he was getting a lot of input from Pat Murphy When Counselil was hired, the first thing that he did is he hired Murphy to be his dugout coach Councils go on, the brewers are better He's goingone to the Cubs and I'm not saying they've been bad. They got off to a spectacular start this season They were a playoff caliber team last year. We played them in the playoffs played them in the postseason. they haven't been bad But there's a lot of grumbling out there. when a team hits these bad losing streaks, often managers get fired. However It would mean that the cubs would be on the hook unless there's a buyout written into a Craigs contract They'd be on the hook for twenty million dollars That's a lot to eat for a player, but to eat for a manager Now again, with the buio might mean that he doesn't get the full amount of money, but He's got a forty a forty million dollars five year deal and he's one third of the way through the third year So he's made about eighteen of the forty million so far if they got rid of him. Does that mean that the Cubs would have to pay twenty two million or is it simply that they would never do that without regard to the dissatisfaction. It's also possible the cubs turn things around, but it's just weird They started the season twenty and three. And they're now twenty nine and twenty six. Brewer is back in the They had the year, what year was that? We called the team streak It was The year that they opened the season with twelve wins in a row won that Easter Sunday game with the two home runs in the ninth inning Th won another one. They actually won thirteen games to start the season And they lost twelve
