I'm Chris Vern, and joining us every week from the Rger dot com is Dave Jacobi, Jacobe You know what, Berno We're not talking about the N championship this episode MBA draft us last night What a day was for the Memphis Chriszies So I was down at the arena. They had a draft party, which Tons of people showed up for And one of the Oddest experiences I have ever had was watching a crowd. So The way it works is The draft is on and everybody is watching it on the jumbo tron Right? And the audio is going through. And when they announce The second pick of the NBA Draft The Utah jazz seelect Darren. Peterson. Hugew. Pandemonium. Pandemonium. It wouldn't make me feel great if I was a jazz fan. It was unbelievable Like people really had their hearts set on Cameron Boozer byy the time thing to fruition Um And so yeah, people in Memphis are super excited This episode of the Mismatch is presented to you by Weather teech Everyone knows winter is the MVP in making a mess. You don't need weather tech floor liners in the summer unless you hit the beach or go camping then you'd want a cargo liner or a road trip goes sideways Katchchup goes Rue Ice cream drips. Yeah You be I' pretty happy about those weather teech seat protectors So just to be clear, as the mud, you're inevitably going to step in this summer donon't need weather tech. unless you plan on doing summer So vis it. Weather tech dot com T We knew that with these top four guys, one of the things that we talked about last week is You could sit down with somebody incredibly persuasive and they could persuade you to believe that any of these guys should be the guy, right? Whether it is whether it is the Bonsta and he's always supposed to been this guy and he's got the superstar ceiling. sameame thing with Darren Peterson. overlook Whatever happened with this weird stuff at Kansas and this guy's got the highest ceiling Cameron Boozer. this guy has won at every single level. There is something to that and he just was college player of the year while being the youngest guy. and then obviously Caleb Wilson who has these thingsings that just can't develop what Caleb Wilson has, right? L Wilson has this crazy ass athleticism slash motor. And so you have this situation where One through four and this is what we knew when the lottery balls were dwn were drawn One through four We're going to be absolutely. I think all four of those fan basases are absolutely thrilled with what took place last night. And I can only speak for this especially when you are moving into a new era. When you have cornerstones like Cedric Howard who everybody loved last year and Camera Boozer. it's like, all right. now we got two guys now build out around that. obbviously Zach Ey. pererformed extremely well. Don't forget about Jon Well, Stu who drank is And here's a question I have for you As I sort of digest all of this, and we'll move off the grizzlies eventually, I'm sure Is Javarant staying on the team Nobody thinks so Okay But it is, but it look feels like You were inundated with all manner of The the timimberwolves are out and the Pelicans are out and the the kings are out Well, who's in? Who's still there right? And for what? you know what I mean? And like why trade no someone like Morant for forty cents on the dollar. This all makes for a very odd situation, right? Because you are in It's like Getting the divorce It's long and drawn out. You're still living in the same house The new partner of one of them has moved in Yeah, Wh also happened to wear number twelve his whole career mean It is a little awkward. There's no way around it. And certainly, look, we thought that was going to be done in February Now we're al ready to June. that it's still not done. So who knows? Who knows? Who knows what the market is? And I look, you know very well. I told you on the mismatch way back then I I wish I could sit down with the kid and just tell him like whatever you want This ain't the path to get it The other side of it is playing really well for the Memphis Grizzlies. Right. And this might be he might start the season on the Grizzies Who knows at this point Honestly because I think everybody was sitting there over the course of the past forty eight hours Waiting it out, especially after the honest thing Hakedown, right? It was like, okay, the honest thing is finally done So Now any team that fancy themselves as a hest team, i. e Miami where he did buy a house No once they got the yach as they done' like, all right, that's over. So it's like, what's left like really the Julius Randall thinks I was thought the nets might be a place where John Mara would end up. It's like,. Right No, you look around and you go Yeah. And then there's a bunch of point cards in the draft. So then there's a that means there's like three or four teams that just used a lottery pick on a point card includluding Sacramento with Darius Aacob. U Anyways, the way the draft played out last night, obviously, last thing on the camera boozer thing is know, we just talked about Jaen Brnton an inordinate amount over the course of the last three months for very good reason No we can still do it some more. You want to talk about Becky Hammon, you want to do the No, no. But one of the things I did' see Jen Bruds another the run now today. One of the things was that they always talked about He's a winner He wins. That's what he does. He wins. You could talk about this. you could talk about that. Why does this team always win That is the thing people are most excited about Boozer. He is the winningest preps player ever. So you get to this point He won four state championships. He won another championship. everyvery time he played EYBL his team won it. Every time he put on a USA jersey, he won a gold medal. like it's like on record. It's It's like all he's ever all he's ever done is won. So why If his brother didn't turn the ball over, maybe would have won the tournament And and I think you also have to look at that you know, and obviously they they got people by St. Johns in the end on that crazy crazy ending to a season But You looked up and down and like last year Cooper Flag w one, right And then Con Kannipa went forward and then Camen Malowak went what? like ten? something like that. I mean, it was a litter. There was no other dupe guys in this first round. Nobody went No, so Were they awesome? How did they have a chance at winning the national championship. there you have to look at that And you go, well, jeez. I mean, how outsized is he becausecause it wasn't like he was playing bunch of other high level NBA prospects at least according to the NBA. rightight? He was the one. You know, a lot of times you'll see these teams the great teams and they they're littered with drap picks Even Bruonntonss for that matter, right? It was Josh Hart. It was Miael Bridges, it was Done Div Vinenzo like there's a bunch of guys. vill op. I love your enthusiasm, Verno. I love what's happening here. I can tell how much you love him. Like not only is the new girlfriend l like your new girlfriend's walking around the house in lingerie and she's younger. his voice is coming from your bedroom. I love your enthusiasm for this Hs here's the thing There's nothing better than drafting a guy that you have literally zero concerns about. Yes. It's also. What are the concerns? it's like athleticism. It's like I don't know, I watched you play basketball. Looks pretty athletic. It's like you know what I mean? I didn't look I because I did a little research for this, you know, because I've been locked into the Kicks. So I did a ton of YouTube dives and I was like, all right, let me see How like legitimate these like He's not that athletic concerns are. was like zero Zero Zero. Yeah mayaybe he can't jump out the gym and windmill dunk on people, but like he is just such a elite decision maker. It makes up all anticipation and processing makes up for athleticism Here's the other thing, Jobi Think about who we talk about as the best players in the NBA and obviously Brunson has moved into that class. Brunson SGA, Yokage, Luke like it's not exactly the b you know Yes. above the rim. I would say Jest Yonis is sort of the exception there. He is sort his phys physical gifts are sort of the key to his game. but Yeah, I mean, ask Yokage about athleticism And he's wildly considered to be the best player in basketball All four are super excited. I think The draft was really going to start it five and I know that Once news came out to Key Waggler had canceled Uh, you know, workouts with some teams below then everybody kind of got the sniff that, okay, that's probably going to be the clipper. So he did end up going there. In fact I guess six was the first time like Oh Be Miichel Brown junior from Louisville went to Brooklyn and my God, he looked depressed He looked young. I mean God, he look so t how old is this? I was watching with my wife and my sister in law who know nothing about sports or basketball. And they're just like, how old is that child? And one thing that I found odd Did you see the Netss draft room celebration did not They stood up like they won the championship. It looked like one of those teams that gets selected to the NCA tournament that's like on the bubble. Like they're standing up, they're cheering, they're hugging, they're high fiveing. and I was like Guys the What do you know that I don't know Did they think that Brown was going to get picked before five I don't know. I think it's, you know, you you have to be entasm. You have to be excited. And the other thing is's don't forget' the same point off that drafted five first rers last year. Well, and here's the other thing and this this goes without saying getting selected seven This has a very real possibility of us looking back and going how How did he go seven Right? Like what did he need to do? when you lead a a loaded conference like the SEC. When you lead that conference and scoring and ass system become the first guy to do it since Pete Merovit and And your coach who has coached literally of the awesome guards over the last twenty years saying you're the guy And it's like he's coached Maxi and he's coach Giles Alexander and he's coach Derek Rose and he's coach Devin Booker and he's coach and he's out there saying like you Do not pass on this guy. And then six teams dead So he's A co is by far the most interesting of the You know, and the kings got him at seven That is super fascinating to me because I think there's a very real possibility that ACf comes in and especially on that team, which is losing on a regular basis is putting up some pretty freaky numbers everybody's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. But I mean L look, we talked about this a couple of years ago. It's like, bro, just take the Califery guard You've got up If I if I told you I've got a eighty percent hit rate What kind of money do you want to put down on this blackjack table? You'd be like all of it. all what marker can I get right? Yeah. And I mean, the hit rate is crazy and a lot of times you end up with an all NBA player and he's there telling you like this's one thing that even if you want to say that He's a big talker Perry has been amazing evaluator of guard talent over the course of his career. And if you think about like a manual quickly even, you know what I mean? likeike Yeah. and again, who knows sometimes and I know that there's going to be people that bring up like, you know, Rob Dillingham that didn't work, right? No, But but again, so there's always going to be exceptions to the rule This is going to but over the course of time And when they put up those stats at the end of the year when I was watching the SEC tournament and they're like, here's A cups numbers and here's all these Friggin NBA all NBA caliber players and here's what they did when they played at Kentucky under Caliperry or Memphis under Calperry and you're like Why are his numbers better than literally every It's crazy. Like And the Iye test is like he jumps off the screen was especially those tourament games it's just like, come on I I love Wag Lar Brown too though. You know what I mean? I don't know. I know I think all these guyss like I look at ACuff being like I can't believe he fell seven. I'm like, Yes, sure. Totally Brown is pulling up from so deep. razy It's crazy the way this stuff all plays out too because Part of me that watched last year's draft class and even if you go through last year's draft class and you're like, all right, Find the guy who's not going to be good And it's like, well, damn man, they all pretty were they all pretty much for good. And it's like this pretty much I the Malwk that you know you mentioned didn't see him. He just didn't really like No, we didn't see. I was kind of go I thought he was going to they could use a big, you know, right. but and he had the injuries played in the J League a lot whatever else. But Also, the crazy thing is Part of me that thought especially after seeing last year's Now There's a couple things that are taking place. Number one playing college bask There's there's less of the where the foreers we don't know what you look there's one Wh the next guy We'll get there. like there' the German guys that play college Right. They're going and even like, you know, it used to be And there would be some of these guys, whether it was Christian Anderson or it was Hein Steinbach or Hin Steinbach or it was Technically Yorga. We're gonna get to it. because we've got a big problem here The mismatch I mean an enormous problem I hope so. I'm going get to it. I love tension in my relationships. Well, there's about to be some V Serious tension Regarding Ging It's hard to figure out. So there's two things going on. Number one, they're playing in college basketball, College basketball is loaded now because these international players like there's a kid right now who's actually going to be going to Arkansas next year. after we're done with the podcast, I would encourage anybody to go just type in on YouTube Fish free lookook at this son of a bit. It's going to Arkansas next year and it is on Believable Like can't And you're like that is the kind of guy that would just go to the draft lottery, right? And then we' be talking about the finish fak. goo look at him. watch some of these dunks This kid has. Oh the finisher. Well because now So here's the deal. is finished freak and the next one is finished freak basketball. I don't want to find out what the finished freak non basketball is It's probably fair I mean, the highlights are Ridiculous. This guy is like jumping from like inside the free throw line. It's like what is this? They're going to love his ass in Arkansas. Anyway. here's what I'm saying you can get live Jacobbe reactions. You can get four and five million dollars play it in college now. sometimes maybe even more And so if you're not a top twenty pick for sure A lot of these guys are just playing to college. So here's what's happening So there's two things that are taking place that I do think make it much, much harder to figure out guys that are just not going to be good. And I think that we are going to have less Boss than we have had in the past Number one You have already put an inordinate amount of money in their pocket So the guys that are going to not like that that was the mountaintop. I have reached it. now my like that was what I was working towards. I accomplished my goal Those guys now, you're going to get to find out earlier because they're all getting paid while they're in college and they're getting and they're rich while they're in college. So you're going to find out who really wantsed and who really doesn't And then the other thing is because of the amount of money that is circulating through college basketball guysu are just going to go to college and then we get to see like so You're either going to get exposed or you are going to prove to be awesome on that level. And that's why I say like all of these guys, again, I'm not telling you that they're all going to work out But I am going to tell you unlike years in the past All of them prove to be awesome. Like those ones that we have just talked about. They they showed they played on that level. You put a bunch of money in their pockets and they still performed at an extremely high level. And so there's part of me that does wonder are we just going to is the evaluation process getting easier Well don't forget you can declare and undeclare too So it just feels like the crop of players to choose from is just going to be elevated because all the exposure The fact that they've been evaluated and paid And you can declare, work out for teams, figure you're going to go a little bit later and then just go back into college, play another year and put more video on tpe And there isn't going to be like the swing for the Fances, you know U Let's just say like, Frankie Smokes, who the Nicks once took, right I you doar something about We're just saying he comes to college basketball now and then we're going to find out if he's good or not You know what I'm saying?ike that's the a that's the aides that we're in. These guys from overseas are going and they're playing in in NCAA basketball because that's where they can make the most money. You know? and And there's also a network of coaches and scouts and, you know, it's when you're sort of domestically in the system, there's be more information given to the people that make decisions. No question. And there was only one. those guys Really that is a like We're not real sure U he was projected sometimes in the lottery early in this process or maybe even a few weeks ago in this process And then I had the raraziest U experience last night Pump faking went on We talk Three different Grizzies pick for at least twenty seconds First it was Bennett Sturt and then it's like noope. they've traded Bennett Sturt And then it was a bookca from from Stanford. It's like no. they've traded aooka and they traded down and they got five second round picks before they went with twenty one and this all leads into the one guy that I had not evaluated the most because he was playing for the New Zealand Breakers and he wasn't. He's the only one that's two years the breakers. It was not like a one year thing. And also like not a college basketball player. like all everybody else a college basketball player. So like here is Almost all of them, you watch them in college and you're like, I know that translates. I know that translates. I know that translates. And this is one of those. this is like the old school and beA pink This guy was playing for the New Zealand Breakers and then you go watch his breakers highlights and Of course it's a mix tape of them They look good. Yeah. Yeah, right. It's like shot't miss. Are you looking for support in your weight management journey? Zbounds Terzepetide may be able to help. I watch the whole thing This is going to cause incredible tension in the mismatch family How did my team Draft a Mexican guy named Lopez And I don't get one text a long time Mismatch producer Jesse Lopez. Oh wow Mexican Jesse Lopez Mexican Karim Lopez drafted to Bernos team Mexican guy ever So Eduardo Nahara, the first ever Mexican guy drafted in the first round of the NBA draft get as much as a teax. N a single text. A Mexican flag at the table No, it is inside here for the lining of the jacket Yeah It's a moment man It's a I mean Immediately, I'm like, I can't wait I can't wait for Jesse to see this. Also's wor worth noting that Jesse iss in the West cooast. So it's like it's like too late It's like seven hundred thirty. For sure, I'm going to get I better have my Lopez jersey by Monday And I'd be like, say less Wow A guy bearing his name. from Mexico making history Unbelievable. not going to Memphis. Not one text One Who is it Who's Jesse? Jesse, do you want to defend yourself? Wh's a more Lopez to Chris Vernon Turn if your backking the Lopezes in your life Turn your mic on Jesse L. You need to You need to answer for yourself on that. You won't do it. because I was hurt He was Whinged the World Cup He was definitely watchhing the world. I mean, I thought he was a piston for like half an hour. I was confused. I don't think he knew either. Fair. He was wearing a piston. He didn't know either. So that's fair. Fair defense of yourself Jesse Lopefz you're out you're back out back out of the dog house. It's so funny because all these guys like you had you had all these guys wearing a grizzlly hats None of which are going to play for the grizzies. It's didn' You know, sometimes that can't untangle it. I'm like, what are therizies doing? do they traff to him or not trapping? then they get the next spick And they are still they still haven't fixed this And let me tell you why they need to fix this because as a and I'm going to speak for all of the sports collector nerds out there like me change it because these rookie carts had that on there. right? I've got a bunch of Kevin loveove Grizzly' rookies and it makes no And then the OJ Mayo, he's wearing the Minnesota hat And it's like this This is stupid. likeike we got to do we got to fix the hat thing the night of the draft. We have to because Adam Silver is going up there talking about the trades. likeike just give them the right hat. Well also they spent so much time on their hair. Right I mean a lot of times the hat is just resting on top of the hair It just looks ridiculous. What are we doing? I can't believe I'm having to let Jesse off the hook for think he this fense that was defense. That was a defense. He is wearing a piston tat. However became pretty clear about four minutes later that he was in fact a Memphis Grizzly and you could have gotten a text at that point. That's fair Also fair All right. So will look we went through A cuuff and Kingston Flemings went eight to Atlanta This kid had the best interviews ever honestly. likes to Fleming so impressive. And then Morez Johnson went nine, which is high interesting people expected and That's when you know a coach loves a guy. Y Dusty May is obviously now the head coach of Dallas and You know He went to bat for this kid. And everybody loved him. He's an absolute dog great to get the pair alongside Cooper flag. And let me just say, I've got an interesting perspective on Dusty May because he might be One of the most Unbelievable Sliding doors moment in basketball history. Oh, So let's explain So A couple of years ago, well, this is several years ago now U Memphis Bketball had a really good team and they played Florida Atlantic in the NCA tournament game went down to the very end and there's a loose ball and Memphis tries to call time out and they aren't awarded a time out and Florida Atlantic go wins a jump ball. they go down. they hit the game winner As you know Purdue had gotten knocked out. So you get to play like the sixteen seed in the next round, right? And it ended up Florida Atlantic went all the way to the final four that year And then based on them going to the final four He gets the Michigan job. does an unbelievable and it's like H now. is awarded That time I's awarded None of this happens None of it But he went from Florida Atlantic. They end up going to the right the draw breaks you end up going to the final four. And he also, and let me just say this Sky is one of the best basketball coaches on planet Earth. I I as soon as they hired him, I was like, whoa now because I do think I also think he has like the kind of demeanor for the NBA. And I'm just a huge fan of it. What he did at Florida Atlantic and then going taking a step up and going to Michigan, getting that job and winning a national championship there. didnid't take too long either. No. it didn't take too long. No, this guy is a great basketball coach. And also he gets in the building and he's just like I no one has more data has spent more time Morez Johnson jior than I have. That's right. That's right. So just trust me on this one. I always said like when Reedad Shepherd doesn't play, it's like, you know what? they've got a whole staff of people evaluating Reed Shepherd spending all the time with Reed Shepherd. They know his weaknesses and strengths and they decide not to put him on the basketball court. So who am I to say like they should play Reedad Shepherd? You know what I mean? Like they have all the data. He has all the data on He know those michion. He knows this kid. He knows exactly what he brings to the team He knows how to use him to get the best out of him Like all of it A Um, Then you got to ten and it was Braden Burry's. uh from Arizona. who again, like all of these guys were like top ten. twenty high school players. likeike they were always supposed to be good. Of course their top ten picks in the NBA And then they all and it all kind of bed up, But I mean, your Johnson went to Juo There was no shock though There was nobody like even the Morz Johnon thing, especially after they had hired Dusty May Everybody's sitting there going And also it tells you something 's the one he took because there's three of them M And he could have taken any of them Mhm Could have taken any of them. And that's who we took More as John. I love and so that wasn't surprising. And then Burry's going ten. I mean, it's like all right, Burry's is still on the board. like The mo drafts this nailed this year. Maybe it was a little bit of different order. Yeah yeah. But I mean generally Let's say all the way down to like fourteen Those were pretty much the fourteen names in everybody's thing. Imagine being nine goingoing to play for your college coach a future star like Cooper Flag Highri Irving as your point guard And then imagine going ten going to the bocks with a new coach A new locker room trade rumors everywhere, pererhaps some unhappy teammates Like big difference Big difference. J like That's where it is where you get drafted is just it always is such a big difference. I think will help a lot And also, how about this for a crazy story? That story that was going around about John Sire being offered the Dallas job do So like, They could have had Cooper flags coach possibly if he would have left, but instead they've got their ninth picks coach Moris Johnson Judor like there is certainly a familiarity already with the guy that they just used the top ten pick on and I u Both those guys are dogs. I mean, I would be so I would be over honestly, like I would be super thrilled if I was a Dallas fan because I'm like, all right, going forward. I'm building around around these two guys who are mega competitors You know, I mean, Um The rest after As I said, fourteen, unless you want to consider Steinbach But I mean everybody had those names. someome of them were some of them were like, you know, obviously some people had differentiffere order of these There wasn't a shock There wasn't like a whoa moment in any of in any of this or really like big trades. There were trades. you know, like the Nicks moved out and Grizzy did some stuff. I'm glad you wasn' like there weren't like someone moved up to four You know what I mean? Three first rounders in the future to move up to get a guy I'm glad you brought this up because obviously this was a point of discussion last night I had said many times as has everybody that I wasn't particularly setting my sights on sixteen, which is where Memphis is second pick on because they never take that pick like they always trade up. So what you do is you take like just like they did last year when they got such a coward. It's like, all right, we take our middle of the first round. We give you another first round or next year to be able to get up to get your guy. U They traded down this year. And as you said, there was no movement. And I thought about this last night when I was talking to my friends as we're watching this all play out. and I was like, I wonder And they're smarter people than me that are going to be able to say this is true or not hardard to say. Yeah, aybe, you know what you're Probably not anybody smarter than me did The rules the way things are going to be going forward. Yes impact Yeah specifically where it's like, bro As of next year This is all a crap shoot Whereas this year, this is my sure thing. I know for sure I am getting somebody whatever, the twelfth best available player in the draft, the thirteenth best available player in the draft. and that going forward, the fact that The traded picks are also a crap shoot, right? Like so You would always look at these teams and go, do I want to bet against this team or not bet against Exactly. right. And so Now the betting against somebody in the future, right? Like It was gold if you have a Sacramento or Brooklyn pick. Oh yeah, right because it's like And even next year when I think it's Houston. Houston has Brooklyn's pick next year donon't look as good and just don't You could use everyone said to me that traded five first round picks for Michaell Bridges. I'm like, Yeahah, but let's find out. let's look where those first round picks like end up being like what players those picks turn into because not all first round picks are created equal. That was the old system. Now Right It's they're not all created equal, but it's flattened out a lot. It's flattened out a lot Oh yeah and and again. So I think teams like this was a sure thing. This is the last year of this being like I know where I'm picking and There's going to be a big feeling out process to see how the draft plays out to know because You don't know who's going to get lucky next year. Like there's no way to know. It used to be you could just bet against sorry team You can't do that anymore R U my system The warriors who did not make the playoffs or bounceding the plan Have a pretty good chance of getting a good pick You know what I mean L they're a good team with stars Yeah, know Jby Belly got hurt So just k. And so the point is you can't think about the draft the way you have always thought about the draft And so I think teams were much less likely to moveo off of those U in the past U One of the things that was interesting was as the first round is playing out was because a guy that I quite liked at Alabama and I've mentioned a couple times on the show the Baron Fylon. He was like ranked as Uh Jay Billis is best available prospect. So It's always a terrible spot to be in, right? Because you know, you're the best available prospect and then everybody keeps passing guys But youre not getting picked. I mean, Shore Sanders had to live with the Melk Kiper on the bottom like two It is right So Fylons wasn't nearly as bad, but Vylon is that guy and then he finally gets selected by the Philadelphia seventy sixters. And the reason this was so fascinating to me is because I was going to be keenly aware not only of where Pylon went, but more importantly Who the Sixers took? because and this is going to be one that you might have forgotten So One of the reasons when it all went down in the end U with Darl Mory being ousted from Philadelphia There was a lot of yeah and look at what he gaveoin McCain. Jerry McCain And now you look at it and as of right now It's Laron Filon and two second round picks and they kept saying like just let it play out play out. We're not going to know the return until late and it's like You know, if you would have traded Ja McCay for File on a two second round p, that's not That looks like That's not that Dpended on what depended on what you think about, you know And I think it's MCain has big splashy performances. like, you know, he has those big ones when he's hot, but he's not always hot Well, and that could have looked super ridiculous Right deepending on who they took. Well also the Thunder could be champions and McCain could have, you know, twenty point game in a close out. you know, It was really bad. It still might have been goofy, but it looks way better today than it did yesterday is what I'm. Yeah. It's not time to run a victory lap if you're the six front office, butes. But you're hoping Phylon works out for Multiple reasons. Yeah. otherther ones that stood out Obuckco O Corey from Stanford went much higher than most of the mos had him going H. U he went higher than Mox had him going. Aent might have gone a little bit lower than had him going. He's getting a lot of he's getting a lot of camera time when people were about to pick and I was like, let's's let's let's spread this around A die Mara. I thought could go I mean, if he would have gone in the top ten it wouldn't have surprised me and there's no question that when you saw a die Mara pick Everybody immediately thought about Weemby of. Oh, they took the seven three guy with the fifty foot wingspan It's just a lot to put on him. like you're going to fix our Wimby problem. He's like, dude, I'm nineteen. You Like I just got to the league. like And so they end up with Do you think there's any Do you think there's anything hardest stine implications Oh, that's interesting I mean Jo't You don't I mean I mean, they're already starting to you know, sift through that payroll. You saw them drop Aaron Wiggins and you saw that, you know, I mean like where you're moving Is Joe might go Isaiah Jo Ludor mean, again, youre you' and you've got a bunch of like Obviously young guy. Oh, Kendrick Williams. It's another one that they say they're not going to, you know So I mean that roster is going to look. significantly different. And the crazy thing is You know, everybody forgets this. They took the gigantic guy from Georgetown last year Sver who didn't play Yeah. So they're just gonna to have like a shed Mara Sorber. Hartenstein, if they keep him Like much That'ontt's front court. Play all at once. It's going to be it's going to be a hell of a picture when they take it a media day.' to be like our for our for seven footers All standing exerise. Cberity might be the shortest And he might not be on the team, but because he's going to be expensive, but he had He had some of those big, big games against Wenby Are you looking for support in your weight management journey? Pick up these Mfly two, we were just like, oh, they Hartenstein is the Wimbie stopper gettingetting a little bit lower in that first round. I think the the next surprise might have been Jayen Aquaintance. O about before this guy was Uh I mean, a major league recruit like five star five star five star also guy that Age seventeen and went to Arizona state was awesome, but he blew out his knee Man, you All I'll tell you is there's absolutely A zero point zero percent chance Jayen Aquaintance goes twenty if he wasn't med flagged by. bunch of teams. rightight because I mean It is he is one of those When you're trying to figure out like, all right, what translates to the NBA? And you watch him rebound and block shots and you're like, that that part. L, I mean, we've seen Mitchell Robinson. We've seen Rob Williams. We see like he looks like so many guys where it's like I can totally see him. And the good thing is he goes to an unbelievable situation in San Antonio where it's like He can need we need you to do rebound and block shots. No, the same way that you had Al Horford once upon a time and you brought in Rob Williams or you have you know, Carl Anthony Townseson, you bring him Mitchell Robinson. you watch he's the kind of guy that plays sixteen minutes and has twelve points to ten rebounds justust like those guys like he's going to get the ball and he's and he's going to block shots and it's just, I mean his knee must be busush because I That's the weird thing. He's like pointo where it's worth it You know I mean, once you get down to twenty, it's worth it. But all I'm telling you is there's nineteen other teams that had to have med fllagged him because there's no way he drops to twenty unless it's. Well, they also get Terrs F Junior who I I brought this up last week and the prospector' not even going to get to talk about these guys told you tooere is the prospect He's coming I told you two guys last week though And I said Zubie. and Tarisy that there is going to be an impact that the NBA is ages And there's going to be These guys that were unbelievable in college that proved to be I Unbelievable in college and that They are going seems like much of a I know what I'm getting and people are much more comfortable doing the I know what I'm getting. I mean, Last, I told you that there's been a assembly line of guys that get conference players of the year, conference tournament players of the year on really good teams like and then end up being good in the NBA and they're like, wow Well, I also think I think you detailed earlier in this pod, which was intelligent because you are the smartest person, I know You know what you're getting more now Just in general Like there's just less guesswor. What did you go watch Even if you want to say, well, well it's against Fman tyype in Taris Turis Reed Furmanstad That was the first round of the NCAA tournament. I mist Huh? I missed that game. Okay, I'm gonna tell you, hold on. Tauris. Taris R Jior Not ph no. Verman That Here we go. H it pops up Tarars Junior posted thirty one points and twenty seven rebounds while shooting Wh shooting twelve of fifteen. to lead Yukon over Fermman in the first round of the NCA tournament. ty one at twenty seven Like what are we talking about twenty seven rebounds Agent. It's a lot of rebound thirty I was watching the game thirirty one and twenty seven Every basketball was his It was outrageous. It is It's interesting. If you think about the spurs and what they're trying to do, it feels like they're trying to replace people. I think they're try to replace Cornet. They like also we've got a we've got a tall seven five guy that needs a little protection and let's just. I mean, these guys are bruisers. b. ence and read Good ball comes off the rim. Good luck if that's who's playing power forward and center You ain't getting the ball, brother. You know what? one thing's interesting is they There's a lot of of Wemby contests But You know, the offensive player shoots some crazy floater, but it leads to an offensive rebound becausecause when we can test. And I think that that they're going to shore that up Well here's the other thing and they were big. That wass one thing about the mo when they were playing the Kicks. I was like, Yeahah, they've got a huge guy who's very tall, but he's not strong and then The Nigs are kind of bigger everyhere else is that point car Also with this team like for this is toughness for when you have to play somebody like the Kicks. Also When you know your major competition is Oklahoma City Hey Bring your one hundred and eighty pound seven footer and we'll bring these rock filers because they just got these guysy I'm telling you These guys rebound rates are Bananas and they all get thispouse and their're toughest shit And so it's like, all right, we're going to bring this who we're bringing to the party ball comes off the rim Do I want Jaden Quains or do I want to die Mara? because I'm telling you one of them' getting thrown in the third row And I think I think I basically no, it ain't Jane Quayton's brother. I think they're basically just saying one of these is gonna to hit. Oh yeah. Oh and also they they had a success with this years ago They took a guy whose knees were Wreick Dan Blair and he was helpful for him. likeike he played a pit and whatever and it's like You're in a position with them where it's like, bro. What if this guy all right, let's say his knees go to crap after four or five years. Okaykay four We got four or five years of every repound the twenty second rebound. U So they were super interesting. like the way the the spurs I loved it. I did. I thought it was interesting too. I loved what the sppurs did. I did And it's also the spurs in the Thunder, you just have organizational faith that they know what they're doing No question Um You do wonder on some of these guys Once you past the top twenty That's the other interesting thing is you wonder how many of these guys go. Damn man I should have just got him Ped another year at college, B big band on campus and made by five million bucks now I counterpoint because now I got drafted in the in the twenties counterpoint or I'm still on the board. There's some of these guys that did not get drafted. So they don't have guaranteed. Tter pointoint when you get drafted twenty through thirty, a lot of times you're going to a good team like the Spurse Fair enough. You know what I mean? Wh that makes a world of difference you know, going to an organization like the Spurs versus many other organizations that don't need to name And some of them might have done good with just the fit, right? Like where it's like Koa P es from Arizona and now he's getting to go down the street to Phoenix and the thir and he was the thirtieth pick in the draft even if he slipped Sac who was a massive highigh school recruits going to the Celtics. Swinton played at Houston, right?. He's going and playing in Boston. and soing the play development there. like that's the thing is is it might be best for your development In term you might get yourself a second contract because you are a contributor on a on a winning team. It's a player national national games And then even if you don't get a second contract with that team, you might get one somewhere else I really thought, especially with The apron, the second apron U teeams looking and going Here's how we Here's how we want to build out our team to compete next year. I thought there would be way more movement Yeah Well also also no trades, no trades that involve players Yeah, none like NBA players That's not we one. If you look at draft history, even, I mean, they're not always big huge blockbusters, but usually someone moves somewhere O future picks I last wee. I'm moving this player and this pick pick to go forty five spots' No that I think I think the flat and lottery ods had a lot to do with that You did. I I think they had a lot to do with that But he also like the unknown of the future Mhm And just like If you're in the playoffs orr you kind of have an even chance to get the number one pick It's kind of how it works now There Yeahah, one ball, two ball, three balls, whatever. Lance Armstrong, But like, why are we Why are we like like the odds don't change that much. You know what I mean? And the next thing was weird. Can we just talk about the next for a second? I know this won the championship and I'm whatever, But it wass just weird to watch them just like move down, move down, get out, save money Oh man And there's a they're moving out of thirty one. stick around get point aroundound f. Okay right Sure Sure. Oh I mean, look, in getting second round picks the most It's like a smart thing your team can do. so you have them. but is that got five second rpics yesterday. No, but it's not fun It's only fun It's only fun when your team then uses those and it's like all right, here's two second rounders for Aaron Wiggins, here's two second rounds Markcus smart. It is how you attain a player that somebody's trying to offload. like so they do come up. and they are useful so that you can throw them and have them as you know, in Warchestas trades, but it's not fun to acquire them. No, it's not got. But they're sort of like the toy in the happay meeal in a trade. It's like, you know, they traded such and such in two first round picks and a second round pick. know what I mean? It's always that and some ha meal toys Well, and also like if there is somebody that you're just trying to offload You can get Julius Randall for second round pit Wild That's how that works though. I mean you know I'm not just a Randle fan, but like it's just somebody that's you I figured you had already bought your net season tickets No too expensive. I can't afford those. I can't afford those either They should just have on their media guide him and Porter Junior just fighting over the ball. L away wrestling it away from each other That is gonna be unbelievable. Well, honestly like that's why I thought like John Mrant would work because you could put him on the poster. You know what I mean Like you could put John Marant poster, put a big put his face in a big Bbard outside of the building No, they should just get at a poor Miuel Brown. He probably knew like a bro, I'm never touching the ball. That's why press last night in the green room It was like Oh my God because he's a chucker too. They should go get Cam Thomas back dude. I was when I look at the tape of him, I was like, why doesn't this work? I su from so far away drive? I mean, those finishes are going to be a lot harder in the NBA sureure. But he'll adjust. I liked him. I like I really like the draft all of it. One loser from the draft Be I'm so used to seeing this man that it no longer jars me. But my wife and sister in law have not been exposed to Adam Silver and his presentation that much Tough It was a tough tough living room for Adam Silver. You thought he looked like a villain There was a lot discussed that was not respectful to our commissioner who is a very nice gentleman. I've happen to met a couple of times and And I was just it was it was it was it was Interesting because I'm just so used to it. You know what I mean? But it's interesting to see his presentation exposed to neutral non NBA fans Well, you know, when the kids say you get, you get mogged, right? That's like if I one up you like you got bogged Righting did this guy. He got mogged by Gell because Gell is like humping these guys when they get drafted You mean Bu it a whole segment Yeah it's a lot. The hugs are getting longer and longer and longer and Adam Silver is still all business Bro, the guy from the NFL. he's like pre comfer all business. I prefer all really? I prefer all business. I think it's way funnier if they like just, you know act like their're family Yeah Cel thing makes me laugh so hard. I mean, he's dapping them up like Oh yeah. it's all coordinated. I think they coordinate. it's like we're to do dap hug. Yeah know Yes Whereas J look like Yeah, he does a picture. He does a handshake picture. He's a lawy emoyer. Yeah. It's pict. And also if you get trained or something, just come back out with a different hat. We'll take the picture again. T a commercial break ion. All right. I know where is that lookook. We're going to have to get this podcast up so people could listen to it before the NBA draft I'm gonna to go get You're never going to believe we showed up at the house A your house Yeah, he's here I'm gonna go get the prospector He's here God, He's definitely in the kitchen eating everything in the fridge because he's been hard at work prospector We haven't heard from him for months. do you want to know why we haven't heard from him for months? Because he does more research on these prospects than anybody. He doesn't just goo into YouTube and put someone's name in and watch a seven minute clip. That's how I prep for the draft prospector, he researches, he hires private investigators. He talks to a large network U coaches outs. And he has a bunch of historical data that he goes into. He also has medical information twenty three in me genetic information on every single prospect that he then runs through an algorithm that spits out. Where's that just podcast So the prospect, ladies gentleen Time to shine Oh, prospector. So yeah,. I know you've been prospecting. I hardly hear sur my mom So we don' wored about it. Don't worry about it. We're here to listen. We're here to listen. We're here to listen All right, prospector. Obviously the first round of the NBA draft was last night. I know you're very prepared for this and evaluate these prospects intensely were there were there any picks that you just sort of didn't love last night. Last time Golden State took a guy from Michigan. He got his ass beat. This guy get his ass beat too. Gayond Green is going to hate Jaxel Lxembg. And you see that kid last night? He went and did the interview. You know what the first thing he said was? I hst the. Hey,'try prospector told you this kid was snoofy told you the kid was goofy You can go back to months ago when the prospector was on He said, Y,xel Get him out. Get him out. G no use for him. Who was the other one the prospector told you about months ago? You tell me Ned aminent Eat a sandwich No chance. It's like, Hey, we just traded Yanis. Have fun with this piece of crap Anybody in the history of the world was a bu It's Nate Amen. those poor those poor sats Por saps taken Nate Aen Yeah, he'll be good in ten years Unfortunately He'll be in Europe Pix upck He did Oh yeah little a little bit an onman Exactly what I thought Those are two that stood out believe they took them and When the prospector' right, the prospector's right The kid literally took to the podium and said, I hated the greatest player in the history of your organization going hate him. Rrammon' going to hate him. What did I tell you? Why does nobody listen to what the prospector said? And you should have known when Dusty May didn't take him. He's like, I don't want that goofy son of a bitch She's got no excuse. He's twenty four fregin years old No wisdom U prospector A man, those ones didn't lag them The prospector, first of all, just thank you for your presence and your insight. I know that you go deep and dive deep in your research when you're looking at these players. and it's not just about the first round for you, it's about the second round. The second round is this evening sort of like, That's where the prospector shines. Please explain secondecond round That's where he should Well you're digging for go That's what I say. find some shiny rock Digging for gold to. find some shiny rock. Digging for a gold. second round. and that's where the fer started What do you look for in the second round? There's a couple different kinds of players in the second round that the prospector loves First I was always supposed to be good category These are guys that work previously highly ranked But now they have fallen for one reason or another Another one is guysu that were super accomplished But they're seniors And so A just NBA holds it against them In the end When they end up being good in the NBA, you're like, Ohh, well, this guy didn' do this and he did do this. like he showed us he was good when he was in college But everybody had different reasons. We just saw a little kid who was once named Jalen Bronsson. win an NBA championship and he said Did they miss about me? Everything And what I'm telling you is there's all manner of guys that get drafted in the second round where it was like, what did you want me to do? My team won. I was mega accomplished. What do you want me to do So those are the kind of guys. And then, you know, obviously there's freaks of nature There's also beyond Fits of nature. There's tough guys Prospector always likes tough guys. Prospector loves tough guys. All right, well Now that we know the types of players that you look for in the second round, what specific players in this Night's draft second round Do you have that fit those, you know profiles Oh I didn't do all that research Oh okay, Okay Thank you for allowing. Thank you for letting us know the type of player that you look for the second round invan second' looking for time. That's just types go That's a dick for gold. D look for types. Just kidding. Prosspectsors got. Oh Come on The prospector ain't been preparing for this moment, his whole life it werere supposed to be good Isaiah Evans was a five star recruiting the thirteenth rank plate player in a loaded High school class P it d can shoot the cover off the ball ill in the grain room. I think you slept there last night.. Suddenly the sun closed Another one that applies Mali Thomas He is paying for the crimes of Rob Dillingham Ain't his fault Lake Thomas also ranked in the top fifteen of his high school class Be like a malk monk ty All right Thomas anotherother cali guard by the way. So there's Isaiah Isaiah Evven Ck Thomas And I'm going to give you the deepest cut of all of them. the deepest cut This guy was ranked as a top ten high school player Nobody knows it Because it happened like ten years ago Dylan Mitchell. Dylan Mitchell Okay, He has some work to do. He was ranked eighth in his class to Texas. if he would have come out after his freshman year. He's one of those guys with high upside somebody probably takes high in the NBA draft. He's still sitting around in the second round He cannot shoot Oh, he can't throw a basketball through a sixty inch TV from five feet away. Okay Here's the trick with Dylan Guess what he doesn't do S The prospector loves guys that know exactly who they are I don't shoot because that's not what I do But he rebounds. He passes. He dribbles. He makes his teammates better Fs like a condor. And he played for that good Sain. John's team. So you know he'll defend And he was always supposed to be really good take a project like him. I say, lookook, I can teach him how to shoot well enough because he does all the other stuff him and Trvon Brazil from Arkansas very Herb Jones'. You know what I mean where it's like another guy the prospector look Once upon a time. There's a place for you when you're a megaaththlete that's long as crap and could defend. And so those are names to watch out for Dylan Mitchell, maybe even a little Brazzil, Trayvon Brazzle. The other ones God Brzz's kind of the freakaking nature type more. He's more the freakaking nature not like the huge high school and that kid that poor kid blew out his knee or else he would have been a first roundnder three years ago too. U So we got Isai Evans Mali Thomas, Dylan Mitchell is the deep cut. Then you've got guy Ryan Conwell, the prospector was watching the NCAA tournament where Louisville played Michigan State and they played them without the kid that just got drafted number six Overall Michuel Brown. Ryan Conwell was their best player And this kid hurt his foot to where he's limping around everywhere in the game And he has to go back and it's like, oh God. they already playing without Miuel Brown. Now they lost Ryan Conwell, right comes out at halftime and the prospector wrote this down during the NCAA tournament because you never forget stuff like this. interterview the kids. This kid gets on the microphone. And he said They asked him, how are you feeling? because he was limping around everywhere Kid gets in the microphone. He goes. I'm good The less. I'm going to give it everything I have no matter how I feel And he went out there with the bump foot and gutted that thing out the entire app and the prospector wrote it down. Give me that guy. I want gut I want guys like that. I don't care how I feel playing as hard as I can And then There's one more, there's two more I'm sorry, two more Darren Peterson AJ De Bona, Kingst Flemings There's like fifteen of them that were all in the bigig twelve, right Mhm Who was big twelve player of the year Jayden Bradley from Arizona. AJ De Bona, Kingston Flemings, Darren Peterson, Chris Ceneck on and on and on and on and on All played in the big twelve. Wh was a conference tournament player MVP Jaden Bradley from Arizona All the other Arizona guys have already gotten drafted, right? Yeah. All I'm telling you is this I'm not going to be shocked if we look back and go. Oh wow. the guy who won conference player of the year conference tournament player of the year. and was on a team that was thirty six and three in the best team in the country turnurned out to be good All I read The prospector looks up what everybody wrote about Jaden Bradley and it's all just a list of crap he can't do. Well how It's a great point. That's a great point, prospector. canan't do anything es he win? Sounds like Jn Brun get player of the year. How did he get conference tournament MVP Let they get all of their shit The guy has got a full trophy room and everybody is listed the million things he can't do What can he do? Why does he win everything He's still on the board And then I'm going throw one other name And this is just a I do one thing I'm amazing at it. These are always good second round findes The value cross boine. And he's either projected to not go tonight or get underndrafted But his name? Tyler Billido from UCLA And you say, who is that? It's a big white guy that shoots Oh These guys have spots in the league, right? Like we look up and there's Saylor Sireman and there's the Duncan Robinson and Dean Wade and Sam Merrill, whatever like I don't know if this kid can do anything else, but he is in believable shooter. He shot forty six percent from three and he's huge He's like six, nine, six, ten Tyler Billido. So it's like, all right thing else I know This guy can do this and he can shoot He can
