We're thinking about the season coming into view and We're thinking about quarterbacks because we're always thinking about quarterbacks. and I'm joined this week, not just by Dom Corbett, but by Adam Murphf Murphit from fiveive Yard Rush because he is our favorite. He is our favorite quarterback guest. and the plan today is we're going to give you a quick primer. on the draft eligible quarterbacks that you need to keep an eye out for. in the twenty twenty six NFL season. And it's not that all these quarterbacks will declare for the draft but they could declare for the draft. They are they are in the mix. Before we get into those, I want to talk about a quarterback who was hoping to play college football, then was hoping to play in the NFL And now isn't quite sure where he's going to go and that's Brendon Swsby Of course, he went into rehab after stints at Indiana and Cincinnati because of a gambling issue. He was meant to play for Texas Tech this season That then wasn't happening. He declared for the NFL trying to get in the supplemental draft. the NFL has said no Dumb. Quick top line thoughts on Brendan Swsby as a talent And I want to know If he's if he's able to play football somewhere in the next twelve months, where do you think he might be drafted? in the twenty twenty seven draft I mean, from Sorsby it is it is a disaster. It is quite literally the worst possible case scenario. He is without NFL football, without college football, seemably. Now his talent As to his talent can be answered with the fact that the NFL basically didn't let him be in a supplemental draft. You can bet your bottom doll of it if he was talented enough The NFL would have let him come in. you know, we've seen the NFL, right, you know, make apologies for all sorts of things. you know, unfortunately for them and for us as fans, gambling is Not that high on that list of things that the NFL has made apologies for and has made space for. So the fact that the NFL has said to him, sorry, mate doors closed kind of shows you there is to know about his talent. I mean, we've seen a lot of things. He's a first round he would have been in the first round. No, he wouldn't have been in the first round this year. not a chance of it. I think he would have been a firm day two guy, potentially a third round player where I would have you know realistly seen him go the board. And with him then not potentially playing football this year, you know, maybe UFL. I mean, who knows really, But with him not playing coll well football, it seems up until this point I don't see him being more than a day three guy if it comes aroundound to him eventually declaring for next year's draft, which is at the moment, you know his only option into playing in the NFL really Yeah, I can see him Day three potentially potentially undrafted. I think you can be on a roster. We will monitor the situation. but for now, Murf, let's come to you first. I want to know Who is the number one quarterback that you're most interested in who is draft eligible colloege football this coming season I think for me, it's got to be Dante More.. Oh my God, okay Yeah. I think for me, Dante Mor now listen Do I think he is the the sexiest pick in terms of He's going to get you out of your seat. He's going to do all the flash and the razzle, dazzle No But if you're asking me today, now I'm going to caveat this in the sense of Nobody saw the Joe Barrow meteoric rise that happened. everyveryone thought two was going to be like the number one. No one really saw the Caleb William rise the way it was mayaybe less so than they have You know, Joe right. So everything we talk about now can very easily go out of the window. It can take one player to go on a generational run for a season to put themselves into this sort of top ten top five top one overall conversation But for me right now, I just what I look at is I look at the players that are most pro ready. Now these aren't necessarily the people I think have the highest upside who I think have sort of the Rasmut has to win games on their own, the style of the personality. But you look at Dante Mooor and he has everything to kind of go into call like to go into the NFL now. I still think there's elemental pieces I'd like to see this year. But Really solid completion percentage rate, seventy two percent led the FBS in bigig time throwes last year with thirty. U in terms of the impact he has the EPA per dropback, all of those statistical markers are really good, decent mechanics seek can re coverage quickly You know, he has all the sort of attributes from a release speed, touch, downfield placement Allough that's great there are two significant weaknesses to him One, not a run threat, not a great athlete. He' a pretty average And also he absolutely it against pressure and he has to get better at managing pressure And at this level, that's his biggest I think he can get away without being the natural athlete because his pocket passing skills are enough But this year, if I was to say, what does Dante Mor have to do to go from where I have him now which might be still one in the class, but in terms of like the range I've got him in to be the first overall, he's got to manage pressure. He's got to get better at doing that. But I think he has all the mechanics and everything be the most successful quarterback in the NFL and I have him going inside the top ten. And I think that the three guys I have at the top are very close I don't I couldn't kill Dom for having a different order to me, but I think For me, I look at who's ready now, Duntingm is probably the one that's the most ready with a small developmental area around pressure You obviously, you did not, you did not love Dante More as the as the number one pick there from Murf. Be we go into who yours is just briefly tell us Wh Why not dancec anymore I to be fair, I'm looking at him through the lens still I think of last year's draft class. All of these guys have a whole year to get better, improve their game and so you have to look at them differently as to when they are coming out and playing the NFL this year, right there's so much space for improvement withith more, I just think he lacked the The Junseix to give a really annoying kind of like drafty angle of oh, he got to watch the t to work that. Like he was just kind of missing that killer instinct, I think, Dante Mor and had and is in a very good situation, you know relative to college Ch obviously the Oregon are a very good team and their coached very well. I was just looking at Dante Mor which was just always looking for a bit more from him really, but that's the same with the whole Oregon offense. when Kenyon Tadk did nothing and they was, you know, he was a really highly drafted player in the end. So maybe it's just a byproduct of a kind of bizarre Oregon team, but with more, I just want to see him be that guy this year I think and I think you've made the point perfectly. you have to almost evaluate Oregon players differently to other schemes because they have a really set identity, especially at quarterback. U What you've just described about him is exactly what people leveraged at Justin Herbert. Exactly the same thing in the Jav process bit boring kind of a good player, not amazing, questions about mechanics, footwork, etcetera. He goes fifth overall actually aheaded to her. and we look at now in the NFL. He's a completely different quarterback And I think that there's I do think that the Oregon system hamstrings mayaybe this is where my lens is hamstrings' quarterbacks So I just look at the mechanics and I look at the pieces off him. Yes, there's things to improve, but I actually think take him out of that organce offense, put him in a pro offense if he could work on the pressure on the pressure He's a top fifteen quarterback for me, potentially in the future And Id say top fifteen. I mean, like when you average out, like the bottom drops out of current quarterback crop and new crops come in. I think he's got I think had of potential I think that's fair. I think that's fair, rightight D. So who's your who's your number one quarterback to watch in college football, draft eligible I'm really glad that Murph went for Danty Moore because I'm just taking Arch Manning here. I mean, he is in my opinion, the clear KQB one. I agree that it's not like a huge drop off it. Danty Moore is my two brother. I'm not going crazy here. It's not that time of year just yet, but Arch Manning, I just think that He actually I made a video about this on my YouTube channel during the draft season before before the draft happened that if Mch Manning were to declare in last year's class, he would have been my KubBi one Fernando Mendoza. Now that is just because of the ceiling that I think Arch Manning still has and has shown that he can just make every single throw in the plg. I mean this guy is a quarterback built in a lab almost and he's got that unbelievable arm count. He's got the rushing threat as well. I mean, he ran for one hundred fifty five yards and two touchdowns against Michigan in the bowl game. Like he is a really damn good athlete as a quarterback and there's also just a really good quarterback. I think a lot of people Including myself, to a degree, wrote him off after a disastrou start of the season. and it was a disastrous start of the season. I'm making, no excuses for that. It was poor. But there was a rumor of this kind of like injury that he was playing with, this shoulder. I mean, he really did it like a different quarterback in the second half of the season. But by then people had already said that Arch Manning is the first ever college football bust and this whole thing was just know, nepotism I mean, I love the arm talent. I love that you can make every throw in the book downfield lazy, can throw with touch, great outside the numbers six four two twenty. He just played so much better than I think people gave him credit for And I think that what's important is I did see Arch Manning be that guy, right? the offense around him bizarrely was just not good last. The offensive line was a downright disaster There's a whole cut up on on Twitter on X of his wide receivers just shelling passes that he is thrown at at that way. He became the offense. and I think he struggled because that was what he had to do to start the season was be that guy in a position where he hadn't played a lot of football, a lot of eyes on him at Ohio state in week one I just think that Arch Manning has all the tools, all the potential. Again, he's not there yet, donon't get me wrong, but I just love that high ceiling kind of guy. I love it. I'm not a low floor ceiling. I'm not a low floor quarterback. I'm a high ceiling quarterback lover and that is Arch Manning. and he's If he has a good season, if he continues to develop as he did over the course of last season after after the poor start There's no way he falls out of the top ten of the first round, right? And I think far We are we are assuming he will declare barring anything strange happening this season that he will declare for the twenty twenty seven droft. Muff covered Dom's top two Arch maning your number two or have you got a different number two He was my three Okay again. And and I think his Dom and I evaluate very differently, which is why I think this is such a good show Dom is expressed. he likes the really high ceiling, go and get them, the flare. We've had this a few times. I like vibes. I'm a big vibbees guy. big vibes guy. And listen and again, I preface what I said at the start My three, you could have them in any order. I'm not going to kill anyone. I think they are relatively close I have banning at three. I just have some mechanical concerns. that he needs to tidy up For me, I think dealing with pressure comes with coaching. That's something that coaching can teach That's something that you surround yourself different system and he is given the opportunities as you can learn. Mechanics much harder. If you think about golf, how difficult it is to change a golf swing You know, I think that's a harder challenge. There are some flaws in Arch Manning's mechanics. For me, he misses too many short throws Um his sort of base under pressure really sort of narrows and so as a result his release point just kind of goes a bit wonky if you ever watch him under pressure. Now I give you, he got much better over the season. I grant you he doesn't have the best talent around him either. It would be interesting seeing see where he does, but he has mechanical problems that I don't think my other two quarterbacks do. That's why I've got him at three If he fixes those, I see him being the one overall. In the sense of for me, he's got the highest range of outcomes to where he could be the one in this class If we talked about ten years from now could be the generational talent But for right now I've got him at three because he has some fundamental flaws, the other twoes don't Well, I'm excited to know who your number two is Denmth. so Pull this out of our misery? I think most people would have probably worked this out, but I've got Julia saying out of a high stake U for me again So I'm very much like a process. I'm very much about the mechanics because I think there's the things you can't teach and then the things you can He has for me all the things that you can't teach First of all, really high completion percentage We're looking at overall very, very low turnurnover worthy play rate one point four percent last year was the second best in the nation seventy four point two accurate throw rate, which is great. His bal placement for me. better than anybodys in this jff class. he can make all the throws. He's got excellent footwork. likeike if you look at the way that he goes through his reads, his mechanics, the way he drops back. He just has a really it's really smooth. Like everything about him mechanically is absolutely brilliant Um he can attack down the field. I know there's going to be some dings on his size, right? I get it and that's going to be an issue. And I think at the same point, I think you just have to We've seen this. six one two hundred eight is not the end of the world. We've seen six foot one quarterbacks be successful in this league. So I think There is a part of that you kind of have to evaluate, but they think it's going to get overvaluated and that's fine because someone will get a steal here. The other question you've got is whether the supporting cast is boosting him up. That is a legitimate question. I think for me he is strong in the pocket, can do everything you need to do. He's probably the most coachable. to guy fits in really well into most NFL grooms the way he carries himself as a leader as well. and he's faced the most pressure that you can face in college being in a big program you know, winning national titles, being part of organizations like that, he's going to be really ready for that situation. So sayaying over managers because the mechanics are there. But Syan does not have that ability to be best quarterback or in the top three quarterbacks in the NFL A much Banning does, That's kind of the difference. So I've gone on where they are mechanics today wouldn't shock me if The order changes over time I mean, I think I feel Probably most people Most people would have those three players in their top three, But Dom, it sounds like you have someone different in your top three. So who is it? I'm just surprised at Julian Saying too. like I like Julian Sing. I just it's that question of Manzlle Evans almost. you know what I mean? Like when you're throwing to someone that is Jeremiah Smith, how how can you possibly separate that in the evaluation? But that is our that is our roles at the end of the day. I mean, I've got Drew Mastermaker. Okay Not overly thrilled about that though. Not overly thrilled. I'm not gonna lie. It's one of those classes which has a lot of people in it that I think after my top to of Dante Mor and Arch mananning. I'm really like, okay, I got to see something P pretty substantial here from you this year to really bump it up. And like my have said, you know, Jo Barr came out of essentially nowhere to be, you know, the first ever play on one of the best quarterbacks in the league. So it can absolutely happen. But with Mess to makeer what I like from him firstal vibes, and what are we talking about here. I mean didn' start in high school. L that is unbeliev. I mean, He't play he goingt play quarterback Yeah is he was a zero star recruit No scholarship offers And he was a punter and a safety Yeah. So he didn't actuallyually play in high school. J just played Punter, you know, not back Yeah Exactly. Yeah, yeah yeah. But he reds shirts his first year, then starts all fourteen games last year to transferred to Oklahoma state, obviously, you know, big season fame. I'm really liking his six three two, fifteen. He's got that NFL quarterback build. can hit the middle of the field, really well, which I think is a really underrated skill in NFL quarterbacks. I mean Someone like Jalen Hurts can't really do that in the NFL that well. So it's not something that all NFL goalsbs can do by any means. And when you have the middle of the field, it just opens up every other throw, right? You know, the defense has to worry about everything else as well. You can throw on the move can make players out of the pocket. He can basically just operate as a passer at a high level in any sort of situation at any sort of manner, which I think is a really good skill to have as a you know, potentially a one to watch as a prospect. However, this guy having not played in high school and playing for North Texas for a single year has the most bonkous throwing motion you've ever seen. That's why I think's going to hate this guy, right? Like the mechanics on Drew Messtermaker. I can hear the cogs turning when he's throwing his bball. like There's no smoothness. there's no U like detachment, you know, when you watch the bestterback in league, it's like it's like they' walking to the shops you know, they make these throwsout even having to think. Mester Maker holds the ball genuinely like at his belly button And it just makes the whole throwing motion so long. And when you have a long throwing motion, eas to get the easier to have the ball knocked out by defensive line and easy for defenders to jump on route, etcetera, etcetera. That's just a byproduct, right of him not starting at in high school playing at North Texas. donon't have coaching. hisis lower body is not syn to his upper body, losing out on zip and accuracy and he just force balls into dangerous areas. Really this guy is a byproduct of just not playing that much football, which is why I think that this year is really big for him because he will play a lot of football at a higher level. And I think that things like throw motions and like, you know, general kind of like Body mechanics, I think is very coachable, not to the point where you can throw like Tom Brady by any means, but you can definitely improve in that, I think more so than speed or athletism or you know ball placement, for example. That's kind of all things I think can come with improved coaching and mechanics. I got mad on Mester Maker I've got them at three. I think I still work in that one and wint questestion is then, if he follows his current trajectory, right? So not like he has the great season of all time or he has an awful season but just carries on at the trajectory that he's currently on Which round would you be picked in Be I think the three other quarterbacks we've talked about are nailed on first rounders if I don't think Julian saying is nailed on first roundnder I think if he continues. I think if he continues. Yeah I think if he shows him if he's showing improvement and I'm, you know, the trajectory has to be upward, right this notote this down, right?' the June. It be like we'll have this conversation in, you know, no matter what, nine months. If Julian Sayan is the first rounder, I will eat my hat I think I think Julian Seying's got everything to be a first round pick. and the thing that people like about him is the fact that the way that he'll carry himself, the way that he's been in the big situation. he'll takeick a lot of boxes from an NFL evaluation standpoint. I'm a Ben, he's a definite first roundnder, barring some at answer your question to answer your question If he continues on this trajectory, then I can see him being like a day two guy like a second That'sam That's if he if he continues that straight trajectory, I first, I don't really think hell' even really declare to be honest with you this year. I think that goes for quite a lot of guys. I think he you could do with two more seasons ye. Yeah at a higher level exactly at a higher level of, you know, gets to know the coach, gets to know the gets to know the scheme and you just get more under your belt when you play for the in the same situation twice in a year and he can do with more coaching and don't get me wrong And as we know said to're blue in the face, the NFL is not a developmental league anym. So these guys will want to stay. but If he does have a kind of a bit more of an uptick, I can see him overtaking the Julian Sands when you're six, three, two fifteen, that you have that kind of your foot is in the doorm more so I'm Arch Manning.'m Madison Skinner, I'm Ev Yovich. G me someone else Well the listen should be watching. Yeah, I had M make it four and I actually think he's got the Jackson Dart be traded back into the first round if everything breaks right for him. but sure. So I was there with him. So my next on the list is is CJ carar So he for me, like this is where This is the last name I'm going to give you before I think there is a significant drop off for me. So you know, I'm not a fan of Notre Dame by any stretch of imagination, but I look at the things that he does well Re great mechanics, really compact, it's repeatable. It's that smooth that completely smooth motion you look at his back shoulder his boundary placement, he plays with that anticipation He's really good at protecting the football. He only took eight sacks last year. It's time to throw two point five four perfect for the NFL There is some issues in the fact that he has got a light frame. He doesn't really do a lot off script Um But I look at what And he needs more time For me, again, I would like to see him remain But if I look at the class, if it was to declare a day, I think for me, he's got that potential to knock on the door and be an NFL starter. And I think for me, as it stands today These are the five names, I would say have a clear pathway to being an NFL starter. Everyone else, I think That needs to be a significant shift in order to be a starter at some point in the NFL, which can easily happen And we see happen of how we see it will happen. It will happen. We just don't know Who will be? We don't know who will be the Fernando Mendoza or the Joe Burrow. Correct. And I think for me right now, CJTar is the last guy I look at of this list and go There's a clear pathway right now based on trajectory and mechanics and ability to where they can get to be an NFL starter Would you have someone different in your top five than Dom I think I think you just have to put Lonora Sellers in there I think you have to. I know that the guy. I mean, I've seen Lenora Sellz make some of the best players on the football field of any college quarterback to, you know, that's come out in the last five years. I mean his sac evasion is crazy, his athletism is off the chart, his arm strength is great. However takes a crazy amount of sack. So sack evasion, yeah, of course, brilliant, but also he allows himself to be put in a situation whereby there are multiple defenders barreling down on him way too often. And I've seen him throw an interception on a hitch to the slot that was intercepted by the boundary cornerback because he sailed that ball right over the wide receiver's head five yards down the field. So the thing with Norisellers is that those athletic traits always have NFL gems salivating. likeike just as a point of principle, this guy will be drafted. and I think the top three rounds, no questions ask, no S buts or maybeies. However, how high within that range will depend massively on if he can actually do something this year with those traits that he has because Unfortunately for the last, two years in for South Carolina, he has just for whatever reason, not really put it all together. There have been really high moments but really low moments. and for Lenora Sellers, it's about basically cutting down both extremes because you have to cut out that really low end and to do so think you have to also turn down those really high end plays. And if sellers can kind of turn it down Th those traits are drone to get him drafted in the first round if he can play a semi decent game of football I want to put just before we get out of here, I want to put both of you on the spot a little bit And it's where we've talked about and Mur if you brought it up, the idea of like A Joe Borrow Not quite coming out of nowhere not being one of the top ranked quarterbacks at the start of the season and then being the clear number one If if you had to guess right now of the players that we've not discussed. Who has got the best chance of catapulting themselves right into the top of the first round. like someone who's got an interesting skill set has a crazy high ceiling potentially should also be an absolute disaster. E if you' got a name there and I know that Murth's going to not say DJ Lagway who transferred to Florida to Baylor. Um, And I'm not quite sure actually and Don was not going to say Trinidad Chambless Um, because he does not like him But to me, and I'm not saying either of those are who I would pick, but those are the sort of players I feel who could If someone was going to have just a crazy season that you're like, I was not expecting that. Th are the thoseose are the sort of players. A either have you got someone catapult themselves up Yeah, got I've got one that I haven't watched and one that I have. one that I haven't is Drake Lindseay from Minnesota. I just a lot of names around him. And again, I cannot attest to that truthfulness either way because I have not watched his tape, but now I've been hearing from Minnesota for small school, he can kind of like fit that bill. But the one that I just have to I have to say becausecause I just love him and I always will love. Geometer L Okay John Matr, I love the play style. He had an injury last year. come on give the guy a break. It happens in football. And John Mater plays for a big team in Oklahoma. you know, Joe Bar at LSU. I think you have to have a bit like quite a lot of eyes on you sometimes to really break into that quarterback market. And if John Mata can again, kind of rein it in a bit and tone down his his just backyard playstyle of touch andit a good patch of games. I think John Matire again let's not forget the beginning of last year. He was first after like three weeks was like number one and Hman in the Hismon race. So he's got that in him H to do it for a whole season. But I think it's possible Murth, last word from you. G me a Give me a play. I was there with Lindseay. I have watched him. I'm a big fan of Lindseay. I think that's definitely one to watch The other one I'm going to give you is Sam Leavet and transferring to LSU I think this guy Dom will love him because he's all thatack Wilson two pointer. Yeah, he really he's a bit more than that for me. I think he got genuine threat speed. I think for me, you know, what he does on the ground he's going to be brilliant. Um The fact that Ellis you have looked at him or have recruited him. he's gone there and he's going to play there, That's going to be really significant. He, you know, for me It is average arm strength. he will need to improve that. but I tell you now with the way that the modern NFL is He looks like the guy that can kind of capitalize and put in a really really good career and could shoot upboards really, really quickly if he can succeed at LSU, which all eyes will be on LSU this year. So he is going to be facing a lot of pressure He comes through that guy's going to go all the way to the moon. He'll be in the conversation the top five quarterbacks in this class If he has good year and then it's whether or not he declres Well, it's obviously going to be another exciting college football season. It's going to be another exciting season of overreacting to everything that every college quarterback does and whether they are now earning their money.
