So that's why we're on today Speaking of raw U there was a lot of really good stuff And I want to talk about Chad Gable because of the five star conversation, but I want to bring up two very important parts of Raw before we get there. One There's been a lot of discussion over the years about LA Kight and what his ceiling is and whether he should get pushed and Is this the what could be holding him back If there's anything holding him back, I would say it's the decision making process that leads you to make a John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt joke in Paris, France. He made his real official return to raw And I gott to tell you Does he feel like he has a new can of paint For to k of paint on him right now. Dude, no, that he he's one of these Instagram videos where like people buy the five hundred dollars like BMW and like totally remodel it and they bring it back and everyone and you just look at it and you're like, what it's like this is like a two hundred thousand dollars car now. Crazy I not a super pop when he came out Like I expected the first pop, right? when you saw his face the first time I don't think I expected him to turn baby face so seamlessly If for no compelling baby face too. like Y. apologizing, you know what I mean? The difference between The difference between him doing him apologizing and going over with the crowd and everything like that and him doing it as a heel Like he's continuing the gimmick is like a razor thip. When' the last time Somebody had a match like that you know a five star plus match or the instant classic match that gets read, you know broadcast on Netflix, it's talked about. When was the last time we had a match like that that both guys didn't come out looking better afterwards, even if one of them was a heel. the I think that's kind of like that's what happens. I think that's kind of what happens. likeike we've seen Okay. okay. I' thaking of I'm thinking of like even way back in the day, right? the first triangle ladder match with like the Dudleys and Edgin Christian and Jeff Hardy or whatever. no, it wasn't even the trial It was the tit, the Terry Invitational tournament, right? And they had Jeff and the Hardy boys and Ned and Christian And I think, you know, I think Ed and Christian were the heels, but they just came out And they like absorb the crowd. the crowd kind of knows that like they just saw something that like is rare and special and like They just kind of like, whatever. Whatever plans you might have had, like, it doesn't overtake the fact that like at the end of the day, the quickest way to become a baby face is to have a classic wrestling match. You know what I mean? Like That's true. Okay. so that actually gets back gets to the question I was going to ask in the cold open pushed off I'm sure there are people with in WWE, I actually know for fact. There are people with in WWE that take objection to the star ratings or that, you know, well at least I mean, certainly makes the case that you know If WWE is in a different business than AW And the big matches they put on their big events are every bit is good match the year candidates, everything else. It's just, you know, we're not all, we're not all working on the on the Dave Meltzer scale here You know, we just But you know, it's still a little bit disingenuous, right? I mean, you can say, yeah, Cody Rhodes versus whoever was, you know, the greatest match of my lifetime because like I love Cody Rhodes and I'm like obsessed with him But that doesn't This is such a dumb conversation. The star ratings are indeed very flawed, right? becausecause it is inherently flawed to be flawed because Dave Melzer is not is one person making those decisions. Well we also could be overrating the importance of a star system. I don't Yeah. No, we don't. I don' think those I don't think those thousands of people in Mexico or those people in Paris We're like Man, this is the match they got. Five and whatever stars. I think they're just like We got a since we got a sincerely great payoff from like a year plus long story from a guy we've been dying to see in something important And now he's more important than ever. becausecause the story is over and now we're excited to see what comes from that we've saw Like how great he could be, you know how great he is and Shy Gable and Ludic Kays and's in his Grande Americano and anticipation of a potential new push. Well first, let me ask this question. Should WWE actively be seeking out M five star matches I think when it calls for it. and here's the thing. That's the thing about quote unquote five star matches. L I never subscribed to the fact that like, But you said that they got that they come out Baby face and heel come out looking better from however you wanted define these matches But like the fact that the match was spectacular, is just part of it, right? Like this is a story that people were immediately felt something about They either thought it was stupid or thought it was disrespectful of culture or they thought it was A waste of Chad Gable's time. like there was using AI for some of these like like everybody felt away about the El Grande Americano Story al They shouldt. Gable gets hurt. He's out for a long time Kaiser comes in and takes the mantle of El Grande Americano Goes to Mexico becomes the biggest star in AAA From a story that like or from a gimmick that a lot of people really felt strongly about like racially, socially You know, wrestling wise, like everybody had a thought on this and Ludwig Kaiser slash, you know, Marcel Bartl nd day, wherever you want to call them. this thing. and made it The best thing happened in WWE television. like by far, like Better than what's going on with the bloodline, better than what's whatever's going on with Cody B than what's going on in the women's division. El Grande and ell Grande and The atmosphere of Mexico was must see television And on top of that The fucking match is unbelievable So I don't think they need to seek out. five star matches because you can have a five star match Or you can have a match that's really good and really long and has a lot of kickouts and has a lot of finishing moves and all that type of stuff To me, it doesn't necessarily make it a five star match. The five star match comes The lead up and the follow through Like the lead up to it had had had the had the importance of a big time an and then it delivered. Yes. So is the law is your By your argument Does every major feud start out? tryrying to be a five star match then pend you're always trying to tell a big story. Depending on the feud. I think depending on the feud, You kind of know When or when not a match is going to have a desirable blow offff. Oh sure sure And when you can have a desirable blow But at the beginning. Yeah, but at the beginning You know, you want everything to catch fire You got to have some hope. Well,kay, let me ask this a different way because I actually agree with your point from the very beginning that everybody comes out of matches like that looking great But if you have a big fe, let's just take it to the most basic level separate from what the point you just made, which I do agree with as well Like Why not have You know Kevin Owens versus Roman Reigns, when that was the going feud, however long ago that was Why not just say, okay, you guys get thirty five minutes in the main event? You know, regardless of like how invested. I mean, I think people pretty invested in that story at the time, But if you have a big main event goodood workers in it Why not say let's just go like at the day of the show? Let's just go for five Let's just do it M I don't think they say let's go for five. I think I think if you're the main event, you should be trying to go for a f if you're the main event, you're trying to have the best match poss in end adds to the fact that like, Ludwick Kaiser and Chad Gable have never main eented anything I don't think. I don't think they've ever made invented anything ever in WWETV. This isn't just, hey, let's go for a five This is our first main event You know what I mean? Like this is our first like, we are the top billing on this show on this WWE produced show. may not be Rw SmackDown or WrestleMania, whatever, but like I think as a person who's a master of their craft, they're trying to perfect their craft ve spoken to both of these guys at length throughout, you know, the majority of this feud or the majority of this you know, these gimmicks And hard press for us to think that they don't give a fuck about this. Of course they're going to go and try and put out the best match that they could possibly have I don't know if they go out and say to each other, Hey, let's go have a five star match. I think they go out and say like, yo We've put a year and a half of our lives into these characters. We owe it to ourselves. I owe it to you If I'm Chad Gable and I owe it to you If I'm Ludy Kaiser to give you everything. I'll bleed for you. I'll rip my hair out, you'll take my mask off When I say punch me and lean into that shit, like I think it's all sort of like a common knowledge or all sort of a understood understand It's all understood that That trust that you build in with somebody that you wrestled for so long or feuded with for so long culminates in a match like that. likeike when you see a match that good? You don't see, hey, let's go out and have a five star match. You see, hey, these are two guys that really trust each other that really have like grown as far as like You know, working together for that long being in the road for that long and seeing towns for that long. where I know I could lay in this form into your face and I know you're going to lay in this form into my face. and I know If I belieleed, I'm going to give you a little A little nick on the forehead. I was like,, we've done ray three weeks in a row But like Ray in his like deep into his forties was putting on like four star matches on episodes of Raw That' just kind of crazy Yeah Um Ray's unbelievable, man. Like I'm not as Bret Hart's favorite wrester. Anytime we talk to him, he can't stop gushing about how Ray Mystero is the best and You know, we had conversations in earlier shows about like, oh yeah El Santo. He might be the greatest, biggest lucadur of all time. I'm like It's Rbro. Like it is Ray, like that mask alone Ray Mystero is clearly The Jordan of Lucradors Just like just like twelve year olds now have no concept of who Michael Jordan was and can't rate him appropriately, let alone yourre Robert Parrish or Wilt Chamberlain or whoever else. There's no way we have any concept of really what the height of Santo El Santo was like I have a hard time believing. And also whatever his height was measures up to what Rays accomplished in his in his career However big he was at one time. But yes, Ray Mysterio probably the best of all time. Really, really great. And it it does feel like WWE's gotten to a point where we're seeing fresh matches For the first time in a long time. I know like the post, I guess we're fining the end of the summer of let's try some shit, but like Yep. But like they've got enough young, young slash new stars that you can do stuff. like throw Ray in the ring with them and make it feel really cool and like a really big deal and that they had the The guts to wait this long on a pintaray match. I thought was pretty cool too. Um, have they never with have they wrestled before And They've tagged I don't know if wrestled each other. Yeah Um Anyway That was a really superb match. I want to get back to Gable for one minute. Judging by your judging by the reactions he got last night. What is the ceiling. for Chad Gable I feel like Chad Gable could be a world heavyweight chan Like Um I'm sure he'll be like entrenched into his IC title story once again Um Fill around the Luchad doors, Pence is the intercinal champion Wouldn't surprise me if you wins the Incinal championship Boy As far as the ceiling is concerned, like first off Gable was already in great shape. Like he will put you on your fucking head You know what I mean? Germans are probably the closest we've got to Gables because they kind of have a similar body type. I think Gable's probably a little smaller, but Watching someone that big get tossed that high in the air and dropped on your head But was it the war rate? I do think Baby Face is the right move But I do wonder if I mean, it's funny as huge reaction he got last night Do you think that he's You know, W the announcers when they were talking about Triple Mania, that you notice, they kept saying Mexican wrestling promotion AAA is having the biggest show of the year as if Again, we might be in dumbing it down territory I do think there's an element to which they're worried that like kids are going to make their parents buy a pay per view or something that's like not that doesn't have any of their favorite wrestlers in it, right? And they'll. I mean, I guess they it wouldn't even be a paper vview, So I don't know, but it does seem like they're going out of their way to differentiate And then five seconds later they're like, and all of your favorite stars will be there. And you know, Dom Mysterio and whatever U So it's a little confusing. but I do wonder if they're just do you think Chad Gable, if that match had happened at WrestleMania exactly the way that it happened that he would be more over in WWE now. Like do you think there's still a disconnect between AAA and WWE proper Or do you think it's more helpful that it happened in AAA? That's so you have these big moments so that you can actually very easily in your memory, make your way through the timeline. That's it's actually it's really smart stuff But yeah, sometimes those moments when you look back the stuff in between those aren't so good But I think that's just it's not like anything that happened last night or any of those times during the bloodline. I think the biggest complaints during the bloodline were just The second half of Roman Reigns run when everybody said all of his matches are the same Those were the thoseose were the complaints. and listen enjoyed all of.
