Hello. Thanks for having me and thanks for you and recognizing your own name. That's when you're supposed to speak. Well done We got there ladies and gentlemen. It is the morning after the night before here in Boston where it finished Scotland won Hiti Nil ourur first win at a World Cup Since nineteen ninety and it was thanks John McGgin who secured a massive all three points at the Boston stadium. We'll get to the football very shortly but Ewan What's the atmosphere been like back home before we talk about what we've been up to here in Boston It's bouncing. There's a lot of excitement around Scotland after that win last night. It was a cage you win. it was a nervey win. I was at a wedding last night in Lock Loment and I got home About quarter past one this morning and sat in front of the TV with my son to watch the game last night. thought we started really well and then we get the goal. and look, we hung on and we're getting the details of the game, but it was a massive win, a win that we needed and sets up nicely for the game against Morocco. But yes, Scotland is bouncing just now All the videos I'm seeing from the Hydro from Edinburgh, from Inverness from Dundee Berdine right across the country. the place has been bouncing. I don't know if you've seen any of the videos yet from from the city centers across the country of people wandering the streets celebrating after Scotland had beaten in Haiti at four o'clock in the morning, the place was bouncing, city centers were bouncing, the places were mobbed. So yeah, it sets up nicely for Morocco and It was nice just to get a win and to be part of a World Cup after twenty eight years I can't believe you're wearing a hoodie over that. That's making me feel roasting. we're sitt here in thirty three degrees heat and I'm absolutely melting I've actually got nothing on underneath this. You can't even see underneath, but I've only got a scottle top out of ss Hey hold on a second. What wait wit wait w, wait wait what have you gotone below that Scotland Jerseyuseum you sat there half naked tell that the people of Boston are getting a show, not just the people back home. Let me tell you. See ask must have paid for a lot more than just this right anyyway. hearing me. We've had a We've had a good couple of days in Boston, you We spoke about it on the SDB radio show special on Saturday toutil Yes But Calum and I to The partarty of all parties It has to be said the other night the day before the game, thanks to the David Jarrow Foundation and street soccer of Scotland When you say you blagg your away' somewhere, right with didn't you really You with blagon ofviews. Well, I mean, we kind of dider on We kind of did Well we were invited, but then fin? No no, no, no, no, no, I'm going have to connect you two here, right? Because I know for a fact from my sources within the Scotland camp out there who were part of this party, were part of this event that was going on the night before we played Haiti, that you two blagged your way by telling said organizers and people at the door That you were part of the official event. You were the official media partner for the event. Is this true? Yes or no, Ronnie Charters Absolutely that it was a free barging. It had to be a ness some Yeah Well, we did right. So we were invited by David Jaro, a lovely guy. But he was like, listen, just go roam around and you can speak to whoever you want. You' get free access. There's a lot of celebs there And we were like We need to have a we bit of structure here. So we cornerered them as soon as they come up the stairs And we just gave him the whole Yep, SDV official media partners. Do do you have a quick word for the foundoundation everything? And the hangers see when you start that off, they can he walk by you because that's the reason you here as well. He's a pro Ronny Ch, isn't he? He's a So we Cinel Jared Butler Who smelled amazing by the way? The big man was in talk for him. And they had a good time, wasn't they? I really good then we a butler. We'll see we then get we then get We then get brought a very, very lovely woman Absolutely brillant, doed up to the names I thought she must be important So was followed by security guy,. any if P'sin youew things would get But I looked at Callum and Callum looked at Ie and we both knew we don't have a who this woman is. So the real technique for those listening at home is should event Like this happen where sometimes you get someone thrust upon you You do the wee quick. Just very quickly, could we have some Could you speak into the camera just for some levels, please. Can you just have your full name She said the full name. and Calvin I stillolwin. Oh Lovely, thank you for joining us. That said person was the one and only Claire Grogan of Gregory's Girl. And we were sitting right Gregory's Girl It wasn't until way into the evening we were sitting next to Cat Harvey having our dinner and Claire Grogan gets invited on stage and I says to Car, Oh look, that that's that woman. There she is. She is Cat is she? she? And the place when she gets on stage standing ovation. Yeah place goes mental. and You know, Calum and I, the three of us are so close to Cat Harvey, right? That was genuinely the first time I've ever thought that Cat Harvey was genuinely disappointed in us Be she wasally human that we did guys Greg this woman was. So thanks to Claire Groogan for joining us. So Claire Grooggan is a legend, absolute legend. She was in the band altered images. She had three or four massive hits in the early part of the midl. She' ser She's a singer course she has Rony Mate, you're letting yourself down here. She also staring Gre in this girl. She's She is a babe. So many teenage boys had a poster of her on their wall. I had a poster of Claire Grogan on my wall when I met her at the Scottish Music Awards about eight nine years ago I was I you go back to pris was. Back to being a fourteen, fifteen year old teenage boy when Claire Groan stood in front of me about eight years ago. I was a shivering wreck around her. and I cannot believe that you did not know who Claire Grogan was. Even when you heard her name, you didn't have a clue who she was. That just says everything you need That's just fucking young team. That's a young team If it was blue, I'd be the same as you you would, but it'sly, isn't it? Anyway one f. But which one? Okay I can put all the names of somebola. Anyway, So what we saying. Let's get back on sight. What an eight. We had Nathan Evans at Phoenix. We had Scaredvor We had Johnny Mark in the faithful. M Hat Harvey was up saying Hat Harvey was on stage singing Yes and I can boogie. Yeah. brought the house down and more importantly, two million dollars raised for street socer Scotland and the great David Duke, so brilliant. I feel like we should sign a non disclosure agreement though for some of the stuff that' been on in that room We did we did you proud you and put it that way. So see that that event you were at. What happens at the event stays at the event then, you won't be divulging too many of the stories from said Night. Absolutely not. wouldould you might know? No. Did you on? I to know if Ronnie I want to know if Ronnie putut any names in a tmbola F F funny you should say that, you c take away. At one point whenonny woke up, he turned to the boy, He hiss right and went can you just give her your name for level, please What wasn'ty's name? I was, Hello, how are you doing? We're from STV. Could you just give me a phone number for levels, please? Anyway. Union will enjoy this because at one point The cats singing on stage Johnny Mc and the Faithfulor are singing and like the place is absolutely bimcing I see The guys in front of me having a blast, people to my left, having a great time. And then I look to my right and I'm like, whereere's Ronnie going? She was standing right next to me. And I look and then I look up and he's the only person in the whole building on a table dancing. Is therees Oh that is that'll be American security woman come up and say, exxcuse me, sir, you're going to give yourself an injury. I says, I've done this beforehead. It' my first rodeo. Back you gate. Johnny Macpl. ight Oh,ro genuinely probablyro and it was genuinely the great and the good and Footballing royalty, Scottish celebrity royalty, you had Actors act, comedians, singers everyveryone Ronnie, can I please tell the story? So you and were're sat next to, right? Do you know who Daniel Sloss is you? the comedian? Yes. Yes, very well. I've interviewed done hundreds of times. He's a very big deal and he's got a Netflix official In fact, Y and he's got two Netflix specials and HBO specials, and I know because he kept bloody telling me. So Ronnie's sat next to him And for the whole time I'm chatting him, I'm like, I can't believe Daniellaus is here. I made him laugh twice, making a comedian laugh. I was like, this is the best night in my life. And Ronnie kept going, How David David, G and get a pite for a drink from the bar, G and get me a jint tonic. and I was like Is he being wide? Like Wh why is he being? And the next time he goes Donovan, Donovan, I'll take a junin and tonic, please. Thanks Pell. Cheers Donovan. And you could tell Daniel sauces a bit like, whoo is this prick and only Yesterday, Ronnie, on the card to the stadio when I showed him Daniel Sloss's Instagram that has seven hundred fifty thousand followers, did Ronnie go Cold him David the whole night. I just thought I was clubped next to this. I mean, he's lovely, right ote is amazing. But you know that way when you're sitting with comedians, you just try to make everybody laugh and I thought This guy's not funny. Is's's this guy think he's a comedian. I didn't know who he is? Honestly, and I thought, right, Don't if I just go get his in tonic' going gonna make up a bit of really horrible jokes I made the last year. But he's a lovely human being. Yeah, he's one of Scotland's best comedians I'm just see, I'm just so far attached fromless he's represented Scotland at the University song contest. I'llt have a clue who is. But it was loveveless And that was just Clare Rogan and Cl Rogan You m' Claire Rogan at University. Everyone else I ye I knew spoke to and it was great but I just I think I need my culture I need a wee bit of f up I'did you not sing yes or I can boogy alongside our first minister Me and The firstast Mis that, I'll know a lot of that Let me tell you, we're intertview them at the Meran and I don't know what it's like, right? because weve had a couple of wines, but I think when he speaks to all these political journals, it's all quite serious And they preamble would it come up, Firstast Minister would love to speak to you. Icial mia partners And and they He goes Ier and I start the I think it was one of the first it was just a complete pistak, but I think because it wasn't and serious, it was just light hearted and fun a bit of charity. And my first question to him was what gives you the right to wear a kilt when you've get legs like that? And he just I was I'm only kidding. justust the we joke first mis said I'm looking. And then we were chatting later And the wonderful Fred McCauley, right? the wonderful Fred Mcaulley who was the host and compair They talk talked to the first minister tackled me. talkalk to the first minister on the stage about what's going on. First first I would say how proud he is of the team and how proud he is all of the Tatan Ami are finding really innovative ways to get across the pond and Fred McCag goes I a few you came over on a ferry, didn't they It was bllant But to be fair Mter sweaty it was brillant And he genuinely was up for a lot. He was class. Foating around the room, it wasn't just, you know, an awkward politician like it was class, absolute class and having the time of his life, why would you know involved in Got involved, got involved. do I bigigging all night long? And seeee the day after the night before. I'm curious to know what that was like for you because you're up very, very late. I know you didn't get to your bed until about five AM in the morning and then you've got your job to do, which is then get yourself to the stadium and also obviously for Scotland versus Haiti. How did that day go for you, Ronnie, was it a painful day for you to take a while to get into the groove of things Of course, we were on the radio at two uil six. Yeah, which is nine till one hour time. So when you think if I get in at five in the morning, and was on airit two nine Is it coming back in me? You can you can do the m. You can do the math. All right, you can do the math M Chile we The thing with the heat is, it sweats out you Genuinely at Swz. you are just constantly roasting And by the time we get to the game and It's such a long, long day. I was I A couple of red bills or whatever it was throughout the day topped us up. Callin makes a really good coffee. He used to be a barista, if he's not told you. M You should know it's been this has been It's been one of those ones where you can imone. It's just been the time of these Tartan and Harmy of Hans' lives. We were on we had the lovely cat Harvey on the telew as you and I don't know if you saw Cat I didt see his eyes at six. Yeah. The reason I wanted to put Car on because we were discussing Carum is obviously the producer when it comes to Pucing this whole thing. Tust me,'s done a brilliant job of it. And I was like, you know what One moment we just see here us from the Tartan arrmy And there's no one better than Cat Harvey, obviously. But You go on some of these foreign trips, right? and You go with different clubs and it sometimes it people don't want to speak to you. You try to approach in front of you Can I describe to you how good the atmosphere is here? I honestly can's And even the people of Boston are just in love with us. And it was the same in Cologne and Munich and everywh else we went It's unreal, Calam min it. A Yeah, I can't echo that enough. There's Americans who just stand and watch us sing No Scotland, No party. or they'll come along and put their arms around us. There was a point where we're filming with Scotland fans. It was like three days ago. So you know, we're still a weave out from the game. And there's all these Scotland fans drinking in this bar, Ronnie's speaking to them or getting some shots for the television And four Americans walked past with an American tops on an American flag and honestly they just got pulled into this whirlwind of fans going absolutely mentled and it's like, Oh, you do the front, get your flag out, which is not euphemism. And they all just sat down there while the Scotland fans are all in them and it's just the atmosphere is genuinely brilliant. I know that we all like to talk about ourselves the Tur Armys being amazing, but it's for reason We are the best fans. Maybe the Netherlands are on par, maybe, but the Tart A army has been class out here it' been brilliant And what I've loved about watching what's been going on there in Boston is the videos The videos have been sensational from all aspects of the Tartan Army. It has been a proper party. and I love that the police The fireman The officials have all got involved, they've all played their part. They're all wearing Scotland jerseys or doing Kyuppies and playing football with the Tartan Army in the middle of the street. It looks as though the people of Boston have embraced the Tartan Army, which is lovely to see Genuinely, no statues safe either They're all getting the juke of Wellington? There's traffic gos in every single statue in Boston they're loving. honestly and we've get obviously we're in an Airbnb right and they get local stations and stuff. The the equivalent of what the STVews at six would be over here Boston twenty five, I think the channel iss called They just don't know what to do with themselves because they don't know how he covered us because that everywhere And there's so much going on And one of the news segments was like, why has T traffic cones appeared in all statues and they were going around asking fans and there was like three vox pops, three interviews with fans. and they wouldn't they tell them, if you don't know, you'll never know was one of the reers class. It's been warm though, and listen we've give We are now in Boston until Saturday so we've got six more days here as well. first playate the Tatanamic is you and it's expensive over here. It's really expensive over here And it's it's It's so so warm And I don't know how some of them do it because they're all wearing kilts. And it's just tell you the temperature Last night even at the game nine PM local time smoked to ' the humidity it' the humidity combined with the heat, which is not great. So now that you've touched on it, the game itself We needed a win. It was a must win game. We got the win. You two were there last night. The atmosphere looked electric and the national anthem looked really Amazing. I mean, I was quite emotional watching it on the TV last night. But in regards to the game itself We get the one no when And that's the most important thing, but I thought the performance ononny wasn't Great No, we'll do chronological order. First of all, just in a sense of the scale of these stadiums. You and these are American football stadiums they' not Soccer stadiums right? they're not doing kind of football stadium it This it's just It's like the Super Bowl everyvery game is treated like the Super Bowl, right? There are pre game entertainment. there's the screens in and around you are going filed out.'s The National Anthem was unbelievable genuinely unbelieable. It was great. They' still dying in the stadium. He was he was he was in tears. There was genuine moments where you just have to just And do you know what I love about it as well As much as it was like a big moment There isn't a lot of phones You get to these big events and all you see is phones in the air There was a genuine sense of, right no this is quite a moment to actually you need to watch through your eyes, not through the lens of your camera A And then we get to the game. I thought and I genuinely thought See because the stadium's so big? I don't know what it was like on the tellle youoe, but It was so hard for any of the Tartan arrmy to sing in unison because they're so far away. I thought the atmosphere was a wee bit flat. It wasn't a handon When it was just a co and a noise the whole game No come across this flat, Ronie. I did. I The fact that there were so many Tartanami fans who'd been drinking all day, why would you not But by the time you get to name The game is not finished until half eleven Give what done They were absolutely done. Yeah. but You can say it's that un started, didn't Hi, completely. I thought we started okay I thought Bight would find them our feet early stages, there was a real nervousness There wasn't it There was'tly a composure and listen I I'll be guilty of this, kind of uerest underestimating Haiti to an extent They were a good footballing team. they knocked out a about quite well. and I think it took us five, ten minutes to go, all right, okay, We're not going to get seventy percent possition here. You know we're going to have to fight for it. For the positives though, what a win. I mean' An iconic win in the sense you're first at a World Cup in nineteen ninety. I don't think the achievement of that has really sunk in yet because that's For our generation It seemed as I won in the World Cup But for you and when you go to us three generations back It think for how long it's been since we'd had that, since people of a certain age has watched Scotland won a World Cup. So it might be Hiti, right, okay But it's still absolutely massive that you've se a generation of people have seen Scotland win a World Cup. That's kind of underestimated first and foremost. No, and listen I totally agree with that. and it was a must win game. However, we were speaking here just a few days ago when we're looking ahead to the game. I thought we'd scored at least three. I think you said it would be before Ronnie. I think said it would be for as well. And I think we felt that after seeing us so well in that first half against Bolivia where we absolutely blitzed them and scored four goals and we were making the case. Is there an argument that that team that started in the first half against Bolivia? does that go again? against Haiti made this slight change and took Christie out and put McGin in and then McGin gets a goal that wins us that game last night. I just felt as though We showed way too much respect to Haiti, particularly in that second half. we sat off them. and I know the conditions and the heat probably played its part as well, but I just thought the win was important The way we went about it worried me ahead to the next two games, which are massive and I'm just a wee bit concerned that our lack of goals last night might come back to haunt us if we want to get out the group. I think you're bang on you and I think He will If we go out with this tournament, it will be on goal difference obviously because we've got three points now and we could have scored more goals and we absolutely should have and we will get to like the negatives of that soon. but I think It's really easy to forget that we could have been standing here onn these two balconies in this Airbnb in Boston and you in the studio were talking about Scotland drawing one all with Haiti or losing one nil to Haiti. was there's a real chance they could have scored that headather, which I'm sure we'll get to, but we're not've got three points. We've got a win in the World Cup and As much as we would have loved to have scored a couple more goals, we are in a good position in the sense that there's going to be other teams who play their first game and we'll have zero points and we did the business just maybe not quite to the extent that we should have. Let me ask you this then I felt more relief than celebratory at the end of that game. I took our deep breath, but as you can hear I'm crooaky because I' shouting at the TV for much of the game. Did we over celebrate that win? We did play the second lowest ranked team at the World Cup and the eighty third ranked team in the world. I just felt as though we over celebrated it We were expected to win against Haiti. Yes, we haven't won a World Cup game for so many years. But I just thought this wasn't Brazil, this wast Morocco, this wasn't in Switzerland or in Norway, this was Haiti. And I just thought we should have tempered that slightly because our big challenges are ahead of us I think I take your point right, I do, but I think only time will tell if we over celebrate it. because see if we get a point against Morocco three points against Morocco or a point against Brazil or three points against Brazil. No one's looking at the Haiti game and going lookook at them celebrating, how dare they? However, we get battered foril in both games, then yeah, I think people look back in hindsight and go Why did they celebrate a one mill win against the eighty third, eighty fourth rank team in the world? Yeah should have gone that hard. But But like you know, as a Scotland player, the dream All of our dream would be to play for Scotland at the World Cup. These guys did it and they won. So I'm not going to give a hard time for that. I mean, I was celebrating. I was running doing the ramp in the stadium and Ronnie as Ronnie says like it takes so long to get anywhere in these stadiums. I was running down because me mean Ronny had to be in the area where getting interview the players and I was genuinely running c eating and celebrating all at the same time trying to get to the place I needed to be. So no, I'm not going to give a hard time for that, celebrate all you want and then when we get pumped off the other two teams, then I'll say it was too much ub hard you and you I just look at yester's games, right? There was four teams yesterday who were favorites to win football matches, Switzerland, Brazil, U and Turkey We were all only once to w one it. Cups are hot These games aren't easy There's the reason all these teams are at a World Cup, right now all there's forty eight teams and it's expanded There's going to be teams that don't win And I just think Just for a second take a beat and go we've won a game becausecause you look at yesterday Right now, the Switzerland fans' calling for his manager to be sacked after a one old draw guitar There's Turkey who now look as if they may not even get to thud because Australia pumped them. And Brazil and Morocco basically canceling each other out. Now we know how good they are. But it's easy And Clke said afterfter was listened we were resilient. It was a mus wing game we know that and've won it. What it does do is If you look at the positives of us slightly If Morocco don't win this game in Friday Be in trouble. It's a hell of a lot of pressure now on that team. I know they're brilliant, right? O course they are Jesus. I was looking at that game and I'm thinking, what a unit. That first half. I was like two honestly it was like two gladiators going against each other and we' the re line at the back going on we're next don no. But they were brilliant In terms of John McGinnwright? What a fantastic moment for him He has been petimy of what a Scotland fan and a Scotland player should be You treat everyone with Grace to Corum, He's the best person' to interview. There's no ego with him He's just a we guy for Clyde Bank living a dream for a footballing family, of course And I have to read it, I've got the list here. The list of players who have scored a World Cup Joe Jordan, Archie Gammel, Kennety Gleash, John Walk Gordon Stratting, Stuart McCall, Mo Johnson John Collins and Craig Budley and no John again. That's that There's a list for you And I'm so glad it's John Mcgan. We were laughing last night in twenty eight years when weve missed the next seven we beforeord and Joh McGghn going, what was it like when you scored? Did you remember? And you know what was actually quite interesting about the goal that we scored is twenty eight years since we were being at a World Cup. We scored that goal in the twenty eighth minute. No the feels they ft like that. Al ye Can I just for I'm going to be a wee bit negative here, right See the last three major tournaments apart for I mean Calam Mcregs go. We've scored some absolute ho as of go way Hi because that's anotherllar bank with lookfion When's for Siw coming Hi You know what I would say again, we're celebrating the win and and we needed that win and that's all that matters. And I don't think we get anything. I think we get he hot against Brazil. We can forget that. but I was listening to Pat Evan and Charlie Adam and also James McFadden as well. And like what I'd said to you boys yesterday I didn't want Brazil and Morocco to draw becauses number shootout for me in my opinion, who finishes top there. I'd rather Brazil win and then Brazil then get hating in its game and they win that then they can take their foot off the pedal a wee bit because they of six points. rightight now those two are gunning to get seven points each because that's what I think happened in the second halfon between Brazil and Morocco They went toe to toe in that first half and at some point during the second half, they went, you know what? Let's just take the draw here and we'll pump the next two teams that we've got and then we'll see who finishes top on goal difference. And I think that's where it might go against Scottland. So I forget Brazil right now because I think Brazil in thirty five degree heat in Miami is going to be a nightmare for us and I can't see us getting anything against Brazil I think our game that we need to target to get that point it guarantees us knockout football is Morocco on Friday. That's the game we need to aim for because I don't think the heat of Miami is going to help us in any way, shape or form We will see we will see, right, we're going to continue this discussion, but we'll be right back after the break when we hear from our sponsors The STV radio foootball showh is brought to you by CR Smith. See they the ony that's in the adverts. He's pale. he's going get his he done Is that different person The one thing I'll say right see working working in the tellail of you and write and you'll know this yourself. See when you have a bad cut of months Bike price can you go back three months and look how good you used to look or vice versa? What' I think about wearing that t shirt? and it's that no ide honestly Ronnie, you were looking like a tramp in those adverts Yeah, we talk about you behind your back. We just I just feel this feel it I feel it half an hour into the cording. this is the point where Mamma Chartters points to the screot and calls you a very naughty world. That's what we've got Right, We're back. We are back here in Boston. Calm Bell and I in Boston, you and back in Glasgow. One thing I was going to add and I was thoughtking about this after about an hour last night is Whoy did we miss Bellig out more We're dead see that composose in the middle of the partark somebody put the in the ball because it's not Mcom that's Nomy Tommy's game., it's not John McGinn's game and You know, it might be Tyler Fletcher's game in a few years time But I think it was only lost on his it may have been lost on his beforehand, but I think last night you go off S even if he didn't start the game, see you throw ony Blly when it was getting away by Hir I and what you could have done It just shows you how big I was glad he was there last night and being a part of it because that must have been gutting for him for what happened am There was just that I don't know if it was nervousness, but we're sitting. and I don't think the refE helped by the way in this point I was going to make the stop start this bonkers Yeah rightight. I'm thinking let the game flow. It's we niggly stuff that the players want to get on way as well. stop trying to make it all but you There was, I think that's There was a nervousness And we spoke to Angus Gunn, we spoke to John McGn, we spoke to Jack Henry afterwards And they all say, listen, we need to upward game. We do And I don't know if if it's case of when we get to Morocco, do we go three fifty, two Yes because that forward in the middle of the park was getting overrun Yeah. would I would say why I would say Ronny and I was delighted to see the player saying we need to do better and they all acknowledged that they weren' in the great against Haiti. It did The performance did remind me of some of our performances in the two previous Euros. There was a nervousness about us which I didn't expect obviously it's the World Cup I can only imagine having the weight of I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to have the weight of a nation on your shoulders. but I thought after the two Euros that will have learned so much from that it didn't look like that last night and I'm happy here the players acknowledge you they weren't good, but they've got the win. they now look forward to Morocco G back to the referee, you knew it was always going to be about him because he had a mooawk. Someday runs on the picture of a Mohawk. It's all about him. It's all about him. one hundred percent. So that was been given before we even gamed start when I seen him stood in the tunnel But not l said, all it mattered last night was to get the win and Steve Clark was bang on the money. But I do think and Aa we chat with Callen before you appeared Ronnie earlier about what we do against Morocco and I think we go with a back five. I think if Hickey and Robertson his wing backs. I think you bring Tirerney in as the left side D center back alongside either Mcenna and Henry or Hanley and Henry I would probably still stick with Hanley and Henry because I thought they were very good against Haiti And here is the controversial point I'm going to make I I would drop John McGin. I thought he gave up possessition way too easily last night. apart from his goal, I didn't think he was particularly good. He didn't help Robertson in any way shape or form and Robertson was getting done quite regularly down the right side. Whereas on the other side, I thought Dke helped Hickey brilliantly. He was defensively, he was very good and he was very sound and he was a threat going forward as well. I would drop McGinn And I'd have Ferguson, McTominy and Christie. Christie who's just signed a new deal with Bournemouth plays that number six role for Bournemouth is outstanding for Bournemouth in that role. I would have him in there and then you can pick whoever you want up top. So I would go with that It's kind of lake Five, three, two with that maybe orr maybe maybe you do put McGinn in there or you put McGin and you support the striker possibly But my point to that, youe was Domican was no worse than anyone else out there. I thought Fergs was head and shoulder Scotland's best player last night. I thought he was. I know for me being an was I think I take your point about McGinn and I made that point in the podcast he did the day before the game, but obviously he's John McGinn and he scored so I'm glad he started. I'm glad I was wrong. I can't believe he got man in the match. and no disrespect him. We love him, as you said Ron, he's the best guy but Ganon Dke, which is a good shout from you Ron, or Louis Ferguson for me, were so clearly the best players in the park for Scotland. I was really surprised by that for the selection, I mean, I think we're in a really tough spot because if you play five three two, then how do you fit Ben Gan and doke in that in that formation because you' going to start him I to face start. But just see, I watched the extended highlights of Morocco against Brazil and Hiimi' not's not fullback. he's a winger. He had more shots on gold than any other player in the game yester.s a fullb. I mean, it's crazy, but they're an outstanding footballing side. They're really, really good. And I think you just have to keep this one tight. I don't think we can afford to have a luxury player like Ben, Ganon Dke. I would bring him on if we need in the second half. I would go with in a three field You've just said yourself You and you've just said yourself that Ben Ganon Des really helped out Aron Hickey. He wasn't luxury player the opposite. He was a workhorse Yeah, I know, but see last night now when you look at Lewis Ferguson, who plays for Bologna is an attack and midfielder. You look Sott Mc Toman, who plays for Napolle is an attack in midfielder. They' were asked to do a role that they're not used to doing. for Scotland and I think what we need to do is free up McTominy. So you'd probably go with maybe McGinn Christy and u Ferguson in the middle and maybe I' McTomney supporting the lone striker And then you've got also the two wing backs as well. I think we have to go tight because look, we've got the three points We're in a good position. If we get a point against Morocco, we are dancing through to the last thirty two. We'd have to give a hoot about Brazil or what happens against Brazil. I think the game for us to guarantee our knockout phase position is a game against Morocco and I'd go really defensive and I'd go tight and I'd play our strongest players and just hold out point and maybe Nicka win who knows I think that's where Steve Clark said his best though in those kind of games. I agree. I don't think if you I don't think if you say it Steve Clark, right go play swashbuckling football and One three or four now let's not his game. So that's what gives me a web of hope and you saw what it was like when he was a comandic manager. I mean, the old firm dreaded playing against them because he knew how to play against teams who were fast and dynamic and You just restraight the hell at them Yeah you just ustrate them. I think there's also a there's a conundrum up top because Shanklin wasn't very good. Yeah. She Adams wasn't very good. When Lyon Dightates came on He won more headers in the What was he on for tw minutes. Th the other two strikers put together. Ronnie, what I would say is the Ranger striker was shight and hope that continues in the next season. don't worried Listen. ladies and gentlemen, we will get to what's going on at Ibrookks very, very soon. Don't you worry about that? I know that's the reason. I don't half you' you care but Scotland J here to talk about that but we'll get to it ladies and gentlemen. We will get to it Yes, so all attention turns to Friday. And listen It's just great to be a part of it Where we Moroco There's so many good games on the go at the World Cup at the moment I'll see it I'll see it again The pressures on Morocco, if they do not win I think is R Ronie I think everyone's going to be Haiti. I think we can all agree on that and I think Morocco are going to bey what you say well They're going' going every teams going to go through possibly apart from Haiti in that group because everyone's going to be Haiti. so Brazil and Morocco minimum we' going to get four points. So they're going through. But it's also you're right. It's a case of they'll be looking at each other's other results going, right? Yes. correct. Morocco will be going, Brazila going to pump Haiti. We need to try and cancel the goals. So it's an arms race to see who gets that top spot. You're right, absolutely right It's a shootout. It's shotout to who finishes top in that group and hopefully we don't pay for our lack of goals against Haiti getting by missing out because of goal difference. It's a sixty percent chance if we finish on three points and a negative two goal difference. sixty percent chance That's so we are That's where we are The team are heading back to Charlotte. They're actually by the time of this recording, they'll be in the air heading back to Charlotte North Carolina for the next two or three days. They'll then fly back on Wednesday evening here to Boston before Match day minus one on Thursday and the big game again on Friday. The game on Friday will be three hours earlier this time eleven PM UK, six PM loocal time And what I will see you in as There was a huge difference locally here And those three hours in terms of the heat If they thought it was bad at nine o'clock, I mean you could see I mean I think Ben Ganadke had to change his top just how drench they was those three hours trrust me ladies and gents, sitting in ne your hse back in Scotland or wh wherever you're watching in the world. That is a huge three hour difference in terms of the temperature and the humidity here. What was it like Ronny when you were there at the stadium at six PM I know you were there in plenty of time for the game. wasas hot as. Boiling It was supposed to look like a soda And you're in heat's going to be a st shade Especially in that open air, I mean that it's Gillette stadium, but they're notowed to call it Gillette because of sponsorships, but the Boston Stadium It's so open It's so vast There's no shade, there's no nothing. When you're in it, you're in it and its it's so Hot and sticky and catch a breath And thought I thought you could tell. I know you can do all the training in the world, but nothing compares you to a World Cup level of match play And you can tell that they've I mean, at the end towards I mean, M Tomany had made a a run where he was almost one on one on the right hand sides Yeah, he just couldn't he get to the book? N. He ran.amed didnn't get to the b r around at the time bo. And can we talk about something really cool? see what I just want to throw in I know we're talking about the positives, but this is my real negative from the match. What is this absolute woke nonsense of making the substitute stand in their full kit for the field game I'm not having that. The opening went O you sa' sw foot when and all the players walked out. I thought you said the full game was going on here Because then awkwardly you then have to walk to the bench. After me on the field. It was super b home It's also Americanized you honestly. You've got the lovely American anchor woman who's standing in the middle going, I can't hear you, Scotch land. you're like, Hey He's a mic. Jent mean Jush You had the New England Patriot cheerleaders ant to sing Talflower to Scotland or whatever they were like, Yester I can boog it. I was like Leave it to me Jim F forgon to start dancing Henry. away win't take your Nice t tightes and now there you go. This is not what football is. Don't try to Americanize football Oh you we did get to when we were coming through security to get into the stadium right behind us in the queue it was the full cheerleading team So I just said Hi guys, how doing got a wee photo not for anywone. It's amazing what happens when Cara goes out the window. Jesus Christ the boy was like a dog and he win the weelasses to it that minivan. I was like Kar, w minute to go can we just stay for the week? we quick photo, please? And was Dany'sir. It was Danny's hair and the lens of his sunglasses, making sure he looked good. so he did, Hi Kara, hope you're well listening to this one. Don't worry Guys, I'll show you the picture later. I looked absolutely bllant I'm surprised you' not put into the grip chart yet already I know. And also one right one qu thing because this is this is mad. I know you both know, but I put up that video yesterday of the Tartan Army Bolat partarty leaving and it went mad online. But the most important thing is I put it out from the podcast Instagram account We had CBS sports Galato in our DMs yesterday, lads asking if we could take our content did you s the mal? I said you say you give it I said, we'll do it if you give his Terry on you and the podcast. Was it Terry on me? yes, or was it I originally wrote Terry Hndry Honestly, He's in charge of the social media account y. but did a good job yesterday. Jayeling. N did a great job. The color is broen. Right. So Scotland oneon hitting now well done to sleep L out and the booyys Dad is proud and we roll on to Friday. But before we go, ladies and gentlemen, don't talk We've got time We've got Tame. I really need gro. becausecause the big news coming from IBrockx And I think the big news is basically it's everyone, but Colin Chisholm who's lea to Ibrooks, you and I think you're in trouble here. Just wait waitust wait utill Colin Chisholm's standing on the touchline saying simply the best. Th thenen you'll be in trouble You're a cr. You are as dead tennis Ladies and gentlemen, Dead Mcinnis is on his way to his old club of Ibrocks Danny Rule is about to be announced as a new manager of Reedel Salzburg and it's all swiftly done and that Dereit McKinnis is going to become the new manager of Rangers. you and Cameron in your initial reaction. Pissed off It's been the worst month I've ever experienced being a Hearts fan Let me just take that back. Heart schooling administration was the worst time I've ever felt being a hearts fan. This is This is the second wororst thing that's happened to me is a hearts fan It's been the shittest month I can imagine in football. You're losing the league in the final few minutes at Celtic Park on the last day of the season. a week later you lose your captain, Lauren Shanklin to Rangers and then Three weeks later, you're losing your manager alsoso to Rangers and it just feels like a proper kick in the bs and it hurts upset, I'm annoyed, I'm pissed off. I was receiving voice notes from friendriends of ours in the podcast world and friends of ours who are in the media Gredo and Big Rangers fans all messaging me sending me voice notes. I told them where to go.ot interested in speaking to anyone about it. I can't be our them. They're all dick headads what I would say is u McKinness going is huge and it's massive. I don't know where hearts go from here. I've heard that John McGln is very much on the shortlist to replace Mcin, M McKinnness I don't think he will get the gig, but again, nothing would surprise me with what's going on in Scottish football in recent months What else I would say is my biggest fear right now, I wasm speaking a few Rangers fans last night is that there is strong rumors and chat around for me possibly leaving during this transfer window. And if that happens, my fear is is that Deb at McKinis will go to the Rangers board and say, I don't care what you have to do, but I want cloud O Braga here. That is my biggest fear now. It's bad enough losing Shanklin. It's bad enough losing McKinnis But if we were to lose Claudio Braga, I'm giving up football I'm giving up. can not handle that ' going to go watch Cicket y'' saying it, but it's Celtic won the league and you're still here. so let's be honest, you know I think it's I appeared on some Hearts fans forum right where I upset some of your p youe because I said a comment when Rangers took Lauren Shanklland to say You've had all well and good But there is still a hierarchy of Scottish football in the old fromum. if they want your best play, they'll take them. It's the same with your manager I think hearts really need to regroup quickly here. and it has to be sorted quickly Can I ask this genuinely because I don't know the answer? Does Jamestone Analytics have a managerial database like they would a player database Yes, if you look at the managers they brought in at Brighton and Union San Jalaz, they do have that database of managers and they already have managers that they would approach There're always two or three steps ahead because things like this can happen where either a manager is going to get sacked for poor performances or because he leaves to go to another club. So I don't think it'll be long before Harts replace McGinis. I think that could happen within a week or two. It needs to happen quickly because the transfer window opens soon and we're going to be in qualifiers for Europe very soon as well And the players are back in a preseason train, I think at the end of this month. So we need to get a new manager in sooner rather than later Listen seeee De at McKinness. I love the guy and I have supported McKinnness throughout the years and everything that he's done and I've always targeted McKinnness as a man I've always wanted at Hearts. Every time the Hearts job became available, whenever I was asked, I would say, I want Det McKinis. I want Denn Mcinnis. I want Deb McKinnness. I wanted him before Nielsen. I wanted him before Critchley. I wanted him before Nay Smith. I just wanted McKinnness in the door because of what he did at Aberdeen He knows Scottish football, and he comes into at Tyncastle and what a year he gave us. and it will go down In history, in the cold light day and a few years from now that we've been delighted to been part of and how close we came to winning the league and and rattling the two big teams in Glasgow However He doesn't get that gig without hearts Hearts have made Dedk McKinness. He doesn't get one of the biggest jobs in Scottish foootball without hearts She att least should have stayed for another year He should have stayed another year. He's only been C shut your face. I didn't have any issues with Lauren Shanklin leaving to go to Rangers. Be he'd given four great years to Hearts. He nearly won us a league. So it was a great sever to the club. And he's coming towards the end of his career. I can fully understand why he went to Rangers and I don't hold a grudge against Laurece Shanklin. Dead MKinisa pressed off put him back on the map. He is getting a Ranger' job because of what he's done at Hearts. should he should have shown us a wee bit more loyalty and stayed for at least one more season and told Ran your argument to Laurence Shanklin leaving is because It was his last big move. It was a team boy cloth as a kid and loved This' exact same for Dredt McGinnness. No This is Dt Mcinnis the last chance man R is you there is a world right Hearts are not the biggest team. You're not the be all and end all. Dereret McGinnis isn't ingrained in the Gorgy boys and you're calling chishols and you're here we go. It's no a thing Dery McKinnis is the best manager in Scotland and is moving to one of the biggest clubs in Scotland. I don't see what R Ron D McConney has always wanted to manage Rangers. He's turned them down twice because the timing wasn't right. Now Rangers have got their act together off the field. They've got a good squad, they've got someone in there And Andrew Kavanagh, who can sort it out. You and you've just had a reality check Pow Hearts are not anywhere near a biggest club as Rangers. and see if your manager leaves for Rangers. What do you mean loyalty? Loyalty Wh? D be a good manager before Hearts and he'll be a good manager after Hearts. The other point I'll meet T is. I said to you at the end of the season, this was Harts's best chance in which to win the title Now that Derek McKinnis, the man that you love and the man that you say is the best manager in Scotland, think of the job he's about to do at Rangers Do you honestly think that hearts are only going to get strength to strength in ranges and Celtic will be challenged again next season Dedit McKinnis was a Kilmarnck manager before he was given the job at Hearts last summer. Right. We we gave him the opportunity and we supported him. We backed him And he was the man that we have put back on the map when it comes to being Right, but what does that get you? What do you want Rony guys are an f Hes right. He's absolutely bang on,, no, no foootball is selfish. This is what happens. Football is selfish in the same way that in the same way that hearts would have sacked him if he'd lost his first ten games Heart he owes Hearts nothing. He did an amazing job and he's got an amazing job now. goodood for him. You need it. I know you're heart right. I get it. You're upset, but mate, you're embarrassing yourself. Right See you two muppets and you're going to have to bleep that. These are two muppets sat there in Boston. I've made my point clear that Dereie McKinness should have and should have said to Rangers, not now. He should at least giveven hearts one more year and to walk out on the club the way that he has done, I think is shambolic and it's embarrassing You' a child off You are a child. ten minutes ago, ten minutes ago you were saying how you thank him for the X Y Z. you're all out of the place. And I get why, you're all out of the place because your club's all over the place at the moment. You've lost your captain. to manage. after we end that? No, absolutely not. No eight mines. Well'm not going eight minute right. You just carry on. I'm going Oh look We've got these gentlemadies and gentlemen. We a We've got the Fost wal coat And it isn't even done yet Wow. The boss is all of that you Well done, son. So The other point I was going to make because we're going to continue because for those listening and unable to watch Yes, his tail is between his legs. He's walked out because he can handle the fact that sometimes in football There's always a bigger fish, as they say So The final point we'll make Callum is The job at Deit McKinnison Rangers. I mean He's always muchuch like Ywan says hearts have always been the one I've always envisioned them being a hearts manager There's always been a thing where you Ted McKenn is going to be the Ranger manager one day with Laord and Shanklland in the He's got a transfer budget. he's going to have to move some players on, but It's an exciting time to be interest just fun Mate, like I generally think when Martin O'Neil signed on for Celtic, the first thing I said to you were together I think in Charlotte when we were watching the Scotland team train. I said, that's Celtic won the league because Martin O'Neal wins things. I think the only thing that's put a spanner on the works for that is Deit McKinnness being Rangerers mananager. He will, as you said, he will get that act together because Rangers have the squad, they have the infrastructure They obviously have the fan base. And the one thing they were missing was someone to link that all togetherher, someone who quote gets it. Dredit Mcinnis gets it, and I think we're on for a genuinely brilliant title race again next season, just with hearts. sorry folks What do you thinkk youin Ladies and gentlemen, such a child, honestly, we love it. We are so we're so back this're so so back We've had two weeks off and now we're ready to go. So from Cum Bell and myself in Boston and from the petulant little cry baby Petulant little cry baby, you in Cameron, who's sitting probably in the toilet of Upneick studio crying in te' glasses in his handkerchief, and his stale hearts jersey It's a very good afternoon from Boston, a very good afternoon from Glasgow and Callum Belt, when are we back? Thank you. You are a consumer pro because I was wondering if youd get that. We'll release the next episode on the Thursday, the day before the Morocco game on the Friday, thenen we'll put another one out on the Saturday, the day after the Morocco game. So look out for both of those That's if Ew in turns up because I've seen I've heard Anne Budge is going to be in the blue room next week. So we might all be trouble.
