I don't know why we're still here. I don't know. My bags are off packed, but here we are. Welcome to the STV radio foootball showh brought to you by Our good friends, CR Smiths. I am your host, Ronnie Charters in the back garden Joined in the front garden So many I don't have in bail att our Glasgow stududio and up next studios as you and Camed Youan Weve done like advice We'd done the castab Blanca moment at the end. We'ded off it at the sunset. Yeah, if truth be told, we weren't expecting Steve Clark to resign as soon as it was confirmed that Scotland had crashed out of the World Cup. but here we are with an emergency podcast. And my first question to you both is this Would you prefer the front or the bank guard then? Well, as you can see, the back garden is much more spacious. I've got a lovely I've got a lovely three acres back here. so pllenty of roomom activities. So yes, we are here for an emergency podcast because Yan is right Bombshell dropped. bye bye Scotland was the tagline Steve Clark steps down, resigns as Scotland national head coach after Scotland again last night were mathematically eliminated from the twenty twenty six Whatdled cup? Um You encamera your initial reaction Honorable The right thing to do, he was sat there with a new four year contract. He didn't have to walk. It was up to the SFA to make that tough decision for him and he walk away with a hefty pay packet So I applaud Steve Clark for being doing the honorble thing and doing the right thing. And I think he probably knew deep down after the way that he conducted himself with Connie McLaughlin, Eiley Barber, what he said about the Tartan Army and the Scottish media, but you should be thankful that you're here because of us and also this World Cup squad that he chose and leaving out form players. I just think throughout the run during this World Cup, he made so many, many mistakes. that I think he knew at the end of it, it was time to go in fair play honorable Plaud on I thank him for his work I thank him for getting us to three tournaments His record at each of those tournaments was shocking and he had to go. so fair play him I think history We'll look kindly on Steve Clark rightight now, Tatanami. are still quite raw to the fact. of how everything ended over here in America I think he misjudged a lot of the toen of the Tartan Army When you lose what I would argue to be probably the most loyal fan base ever It takes an awful lot for the Tartan arrmy to t. that you' you're you think of all the stories of that Cat Harveyest told us about bit the The generation of Tatan armi will follow them anywhere in everywhere. It doesn't matter if it's the back waters of Peru or all the way over to the other side of the world it's When you lose that, you are so cooked And he knew that, I think. He didn't help himself with his conduct. I think his conduct at the end was not befitting of a national head coach of this country Some of his comments you and you're right were not great. U But I think history Time' a great healer And we'll look back and go right he reset the clock U He did get us to three. He gave us some great memories He is responsible for me gaining about five kilogos and picking up my liver. So thanks Deve You didn't know what space of marita was until Steve Clark became a sccotit I think at the cold light of day, we can all get a weebit And I think some of the I say again, some of the stuff that has been banded about about the man was a weeb bit to OTT in certain sections But he had to gole abbsolutely had to go and u And he pened a letter in which she said the most emotional part of this goodbye was to his players. I think he was always very loyal to his players I I'm a little bit surprised the most emotional part wasn't to the supporters who gone through all that, but that's up to him. his way of doing it. I also find a little bit Considering how Ped off the top now we are The byye bye Scotland. I know why they're doing it because it sounds like you know you did byye by Rangers, byy bye Celtic when it was Kelly mananager I thought that was a little bit am It could have had a more serious towone to it because you know the Taianami have spent thousands to get here and have been severely let down by association in every way So I thought I was reading it going byye bye Scotland. That's a we bit All right, I'm off. Yep, I completely agree on that one. I would go a step further. I think it's really out of place. I don't really get it. As you say, it's This is a lot of people who spent a lot of money following Scotland across the world for their entire life and it felt like It was a needless stig when he left I wanted Steve Clark to leave this head held high? That was never going to happen given what happened at this tournament. I felt like that was just another job at the Titan Army that didn't really need it Celtic and Rangers fans or as much Scotland fans as everybody else I thought was a very odd comment I'm going to throw something into the equation there and I might be wrong and I'm sure I'll get a phone call from said individual After this goes out But that had a touch of the Darl Broadfots, in my opinion that statement Dald Broadfoot is there with PR SFA, Steve Clark Um And I think when you look at the start of this World Cup, there was a new Steve Clark. There was a different Steve Clark. He was smiling, he was joking, he was bubbly. good fun. He had and good fun That's a Darl Broadfoot touch in my opinion. he's the PR have sat in front of him and have gone, lookook, Steve, you're at the World Cups for first time in twenty eight years, donon't be as do as you normally are, don't be as serious as you normally are. And in fair play the guy came out, he was enjoying himself. He was having fun with the media, he was having fun with the Tartan Army, Brilliant. and that statement had touch you the PR about it The other thing I would say is this is totally Steve Clark's decision. Yes, no outside influence. he decided to go From what we understand that there was surprise They had decided to do so so quickly and from within the association So It's kind of The chap is now closed will'll go on to the fact that The look for the association. to have given him a forty year deal and to walk after a month Maybe a month and a half into that four year deal raises serious questions as to the how we came to be in this position And I think speaking as we said, I know you and you've taken aim at Mike More and you've taken aim at Ian Maxwell and rightly so in this regard and We have to reset the do they have to reset the dial? We're going to touch on this new manager he he Steve Clark was rewarded For three qualifications That's not enough anymore. Yes, he got them to three major tournaments, but he was also rewarded. for three failures at said major tournaments. And his what it went to Ian Max T sorry, yeahah the third one came along, but the third one almost felt It' getting rewarded for that before we' even played. Yeah. ye. Exactly, exactly We can't do that anymore. Ian Maxwell can't come out and say, yeah, but look what he's got us too He's the most successful manager in his history And I think going forward, whoever this new man will be The bar has to be raised by the SFA because They are not looking good this well, this morning here, this afternoon, but you are you in Yeah The heat is on now for them and the fact also that We're setting here on the Monday No where are we? Sunday. It's a Sunday on a Sunday. You've got me washing in the Sath friends. Still No No interviews have been given by the association. No no. any player, manager or officials and they wink is wrong as a wrong They will all get on a flight today. they will all head back and the interview processes will begin for the new head coach, but I think to not round this off with something I think it's a really bad look. Yeah, but this is the Eururos all over again. We did this. We did this after the Hungary game. Steve Clarkke came out, had some really weird comments about foreign referees, which he was never really asked to explain and if he was, he just batted it away. We didn't speak to him again for what two or three months. He finally did an exit interview from a tournament in, I think it was September that we got pumped out in June That was only because they had to the release he squad for the Nationationss League. He was eight Contract exact that point. Exactly. I think you know, this isn't this isn't the first time that Steve Clark or the SFA have decided that when things don't go their way, they just shut up shop and don't say a word. And I think I agree with it. I agree with almost everything you've said. I would throw in that PR In their mind, they'll think it's good for me. the Scotland fans deserve an explanation from their manager. And know he's left now they deserve an explanation from their CEO of the SFA but I don't think they'll get one Listen, I've targeted Mike Morinei quite a bit over the last couple of podcasts and also on social media. He has become kind of like the invisible man at the top of the tree at the SFA And I decided to to have a go at him because he's as responsible as anybody for the situation we found ourselves in and to hand over a four year deal to a manager who had in previous tournaments failed miserably That needs to explain and The arrogance of Morni and the reason why he gave him a four year deal. It says it all about the SFA, they are untouchable I can say and do what I want and there's nothing that you can do And that's the arrogance of the SFA. It is For me and I nearly say some they probably get me in a lot of trouble No, I won't. For me From top to bottom, the SFA needs a complete overhaul from Morini, Maxwell call them Doncaster, the lot need to go, isn't it W you that under attack here? What is that I don't know I think is Mate Monani Hiden in the bushes Th are attacked by something I don't know what. I feel like I've invaders are a lost archit or something this is bad. Anyway, sorry to your f let's take yours about Yanflow. The only thing I would say and I said the storory last night I think the reason they gaveeve Clark a four year deal and the reason the SFA looks so bad right now, I think they were all convinced we'd get to the next part of this tournament, utterly convinced before the ball was kicked. And that's how we find ourselves in this absolute shit showow other the other thing is I think the add against of Steave Clark thinking that three points in a one no win was going to be enough. I genuinely believe now having looked back at the three games. that first game against H he thought, just get a win and that will be it. We will get through And we in fairness to us three, we were like, going, we'll see, we'll see. And I was wasn't convinced that a one mil win against Haiti was ever going to be enough And it's turned out unfortunately for Scotland, not to have been enough. And I think the arrogance of the SFAN and Steve Clark looking at the expanded World Cup, right, there's no chance we kind of qualify for this group. sureurely we're going to be Haiti and it'll be enough for us to get into the next round and we can all be hailed as heroes and history makers. Well, Mike Mulani and Ian Maxwell and Steve Clark, you got that one spectacularly wrong and you're wrong to offer him a four year deal before the World Cup You'd reward Steve Clark with a four year deal if you get us into the last thirty two of the World Cup. But even when it's as easy as it is to get through to the knockout stage of the World Cup, we still it up And Mike Morani and Ian Maxwell also cannot escape criticism And it's nice to see how a lot of people have been led by us here on this podcast. It's nice to see other media outlets now be aware of' been made aware of Mike Morany and Max on the poor job that they're doing. and I think the pressure needs to be kept on them because the SFA and Scottish football' is in an absolute mess just now. And I said in the last podcast and I'll say it again, they ultimately, in my opinion, not in your opinion, Ronnie, or in Cal's opinion, in my opinion, They ultimately didn't really care because they are in a position where they are beholden to nobody. body apart from themselves and their own little clique, that's all they care about and they all look after each other. And that's always been the case for the SFA. This is nothing new. This has been the SFA for as long as I can remember. And I worked in your position years ago and it's always been the case and nothing has changed. But it's time that the Scottish football media and Scottish football fans from here on in now demand change and demand better because I think we as a football loving nation demand or deserve better, not just not that we should just demand it. We need to What's wrong with you call him, your door's hitting you in the face? Yeah, Chris Chris Harvey from SWV News is about to walk out topless. I'm just gonna to stop that before people see it I don't know people don't know thats, Chris. We want to bey the Chris H ofy nakedness. U fact you in the stories of this Airbnb will live will be forever honestly. The issue that we have for certain for certain quarters will be that Those men are in charge of the next stage or of the next cycle Be that is the end of a cycle. I think the squad is getting to the end of a cycle You think four years time in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, how many of our big players will be there I am not sure So looking ahead the favourite for the job. Roy, see before we get to the manager job, I'm going to I have since her last podcast, I have noticed There's there mean a lot of comments and a lot of opinion Particularly you Callum Yeah folk don't like me a lot, that's fine. A after I' went for Mulini and that There's been a lot said. And what I will say and I'm not here to defend you to because you too have got big enough mous to defend yourself. The position you find yourselves in being in that position You work in the Scottish football media You have to deal with chief executives and chairmans and players and managers on a week to week basis. And you walk a fine line, you walk a tightrope And what I would say in defense of you too, during the football season on the STV radio foootball show You are Tically you run in a position that you're in having to deal with Celtic rangers, etcera cera You're one of the few that is quite critical when you feel it's justified. There's other media individuals who are not as critical as you are But what I would see on that is this. Is that As I said, you walk this fine tight rope I don't. So when I say what I say, that is my opinion and at no point has Ronnie or has Callum ever ped me aside at the end of a podcast. I went, you need you rein it in, you need you cm doing a bit because you're going to make our jobs a misery. Now I know and I hope I'm not giving anything away here and I'm not breaking any confidentiality here. And I think the people who listen to the show should know this is that you too do get messages and phone calls from people within Scottish football because of some of the things that are said on this show. And at no point have you said to me, right you need to stop this because you're making our lives a misery. becausecause we're getting phone calls left right and center or our text messages left right and center, but some of the things are said on this show. I. e, you get a phone call, put pressure on me, so I shut my mouth. But you've never done that. Flutting with my mother was one that nearly my dad's phone call was could me. There was a few choice on. Yeah ye Oh, o oh my Christ there's a storm. heaven open in Miami, yeah. How a canopy? Ronie's in now he's walked out of his three acre garden You on that point, yeah, no, we never would. And I would also argue like, I take the point that you're trying to make, but I can't speak for Ronnie. I don't change my opinion because of what headad of Cs or at CEO says or thinks of me. I think all three of us are I like to think we're in a position where we say what we think. If I just said the thing that I thought was right, I wouldn't have a million notifications asking for me to apologize to you on this episode, which just very quickly will Cm, I would never have asked you to apologize, you're entitled to your opinion. Although your opinion was wrong, and it was wrong it was wrong in the eyes of many There's a lot Yeah, that's fine, but I'm saying I would never ask you to apologize for the way that you spoke to me or for the opinion that you shared on that particular show We're all entitled to our opinion. Now when I was in your position In the Naughties, I walked out tightrope, but I also got myself banned from Hdon on three occasions. I also got myself banned from Celtic Park in Hearts and also A actually never got banned from Rangers Wonder why? Well I've just realized of all the clubs you got. I've just realized of all the clubs I got bad for. One of them was Nar Rangers No. When you pay that when you pay that much for a club deck season ticket, I mean you deserve to say it. deserve to set you want to see what you are Wait a minute, although I thought I was going to get baned from Riers when I turned up for the unveiling of Deit McKinnness there the other day. I got pulled aside. It's a story from maybe later in the podcast, but I got pulled aside and pulled into a hallway by Alan Potts Oh Godd, you've named him. Oh Yeah, I know, but it's good. it's not but there's a wee tease for you. I'll tell you the story about how I got into that media conference a little later, but I thought I was going to get banned from Rangers for the first time there last week. However, I didn't me as you know. But let's stick with Scotland. take back in. We get it You can see what you like. we can all see what you like. The next manager of Scotland This is going to divide so much opinion. It is already dividing so much opinion I'll run you through the favorites list. Top of the tree. Davy Mys, one year left on his Everton contract. And then, thanks to no one else, but you and Cameron He's got Anne Posta Coglu second on the list to be the Scotland Mag Well, done't you all because of you and Cavvin. The PR machine is incredible in this place. Honestly, I think we could pick a random manager from the other side of the world and between the three of us, if we keep tweetaking it You'll probably make its weird back taking odds or I think we should try that changly, right? justust pick somebody, pick some random guy. other names on the list. Folk mananager John McGLenn I'm Stehven Naysmith his assistant, Steve Clark's assistant is also on the list Brenda Rogers Robbie Keeen, Martin O'Neill, Stephen Gerard all on the list. Can we discuss the ange in the room You and Cameron and supposed to cood glu As you know, Ronnie and Callp I've been banging on of it Anch Postakogla for two years. I wanted him after the debacle in Germany Euro twenty twenty four and I've been banging that drum for two years. so it's nothing new. All I did during the week was to retweet my thoughts on Ange Posto Coglu. become the new Scotland manager. Now sat in the ITV studios, STVs studios, ITV STV studios for the World Cup And I I think next time he appears on TV, Mark Pugash is clearly going to ask him the question. so it'll be interesting to see what he's going to say about the situation with the national team job. I would love Ange Posta Corlu. I do think we need something fresh from outside to come in with a new set of eyes, a different outlook, a different way of doing it. However, my problem with that is that is someone of the standard ofch Postcogla going to work with Mike Multraney I think he's big you' got bigger problems than that you and you we are we are Dream in here, I would love it to be Ange Posta Cogaglu, Gually, is my number one choice. It's never happening in a month of Sundays. We cannot afford Ange Posta Coglu. This is the salary, Steve Clark of an Aberdeeen manager And you want to get a guy who has a severance package from to of what was it seven million pounds? No way in hele As Ange Post to Cagley becoming the Scotland manager, we cannot afford him. We'veat in interviews with Ange Sports to Cgla where has stated on numerous occasions that it's not the money, it's about the football project. Scotland right now is a football project. It's the end of a cycle. The difference being he cannot go out and buy players that suits his way of playing That's where it could be interesting I mean, For nothing, running a blockbuster name at a helllm would be brilliant. Ronny you've s in front Ange Postooglu over many years when he was a Celtic manager. and you're writing what you're saying. He's all about the footballing project. You look at the job he did at Australia, you look at the job they did in Asia, look at the job that he did at Celtic as well I think he might listen and would probably be interested to sit down and have a conversation. My problem is when he sits down you have that conversation, that he's gonna to listen to Ly of and Maxwell and Mike M anything I'm not working with these muppets, not a chance Everything has to be right for Ange Posto Coglu to take that job and unfortunately, I don't think we have the people in place that he would want to work with. And that's why I've always said that the SFA needs ripped up from top to bottom. I would love Ange Posto Coglu to take the job. He is my only choice. I don't want anybody else on that list. That's no disrespect to John McGlinn or David Moyys I want Post to Corlu. I want him in the job. I think that he could do a great job. and see the nationationss League campaign it's coming up in September. He uses that And you don't give two monkeys what the results are, because you're looking at the bigger picture from two years till now when we are co hosting the Eururos. Steve Clark made a massive error in the buildup to his World Cup. He completely ignored the players that were informed, your' Bowys, your Barney Stewart, your Calvin Millers, yourre Lenon Miller, etcetera, et ccera. to go with his H his players who were out of form who weren to getting game time. That's where it was the beginning of the end for Steve Clark. I think someone like and Ange Posta Coglu who doesn't give a shit for reputations. It's all about if you're good enough You're going to play. And if you're informed, you're going to play. I think Steve Clark was far too loyal to too many shite players You know I say Ange' for Ange. If Ange can work with a basket case that is Celtic football Club, then he can work with the SFA If you can w with D with Daysisney, can wk anyone. Oh, that's light Well, that's the light. there you go You know though? you know what I'm saying? It's there's so material about he works with the importance is he works with these players I don't think it'll be Anntw Postacoglu. I don't know if it'll be is it time to move away from it the manager of the national team has to be Scottish? Yeah, that that that is a is a an ethos in a manta that can that limits you as a football leing nation If you only select your managers, you're going to come up against a cycle where there's not really any good Scottish managers available. And if you start wedging in just because the guy comes from Scotland and he can sing flower to Scotland You could setit back your nation. E The England manager is a German. We're so past this whole national identity thing It has to be the best man for the job. We should be scouting far and wide and see if we don't know who the guy is I don't m that I'd rather a new project. I would rather someone who's not currying favor or cozying up to the SFA that we have to completely start again, rip this up and that includes the youth levels as well I mean, we have to really take a real longong hard look The progression of youth I know we've got the likes of Curtis, Ganondoke and Fletcher and all that coming through. It's not enough That's not bo that's not a backbone of a team that's going to take you to the next two World Cups So we really this is so crucial to get this, right would Would it be an issue if it was an Englishm No, I just want the best man for the job. That's it. I just want the best man for the job. You look at this World Cup, for example, Jesse Marsh In Canada what's a job he's done playing outstanding. I then you look at Poatino with the United States. this was a USA team that were expected to crash out during the group stages because they were so bad But they've played some of the best football at this World Cup and scoring goals for fun. They've been an excellent watch. So I don't think It matters where the manager is from as long as they are good at what they do and they're also going to give young players an opportunity. And look you look at the like your Luke Graames in this world and your Lennon Millers, your Barny Stewarts and your Kiran Bowys, et ccetera, et cetera. You can see there's some good young players that are coming through We just need a manager who trusts in them believes in them, and will give them that opportunity ahead of the euros in twenty twenty eight. I would ask you both this question and I think according know the answer, do you trust the people in charge of the Scottish Football Association to appoint the right person to do that because I thought No That's why Morini has to go. Ronnie mentioned there about this cycle has come to an end. The Steve Clark cycle has come to an end So should the cycle of Mike Moreini come to an end I think it it needs a complete overhaul as I've said before and on numerous occasions and on social media And I'm not going to let this go because I do think that the Scottish football iss an absolute mess just now as we discussed during the season. I think Wy Coam has to go. She's not good at what he does. I think Ian Maxwell has to go. She's not good at what he does. Mike Mulani has to go. alsoso who needs to go? Neil Doncaster.s It's too cozy. They're all in demolish Hdon this should be a watershed moment for Scottish football This cycle is done. theirir cycle is done. He needs to go back to Allah You are honestly Camden. So So this is where we are. So the Scotland team are 're heading off in the next day See before Ronnyie saw it, Ronnie, Ronny, can I just go back and let's just let's just go around room again before because we've moved away from the managers now just before you talk to the team and what they're doing and everything Cab Who's your next scot? Okay, who do you want it to be? Who's it more likely to be So who'd you want it to be I want it to be Anropost the Coglue. I genuine think we're more likely to get somebody like Neil Lennon The Nanjaposts the Cga Ron C you canan you imagine when they will let a Disney pick a single Rangers player for the next three years Just for the drvez. How would it to be an suppost the co glue? I think It'll be David Mys. The one I would throw in there would be Roberto Martinez He's leaving Portugal He has a Scottish connection and his wife. I can't even know any Scottish game Calum, we're a cash rich association who's just turned the biggest profit in our history and we will not end up any of it We won't the h m the manager because it's the SFA.'s the way it's all's that's not right That's not a good argument to make. If you have fact the business there is evidence based becausecause the managers get paid the salary of the Aberdeen manager. Roberta Martines is not taking that salary. And P' not taking that salary. But theny was Tony Mobbery was completely was certain Lvel of manager at Celtic and then Brendon Rogers became the most. paid manager because if there's a better manager out there, and you go going to pay him That's how it works. Yeah dont We we don't have that ambition as an SFA. we just don't. So Well let's see. Let's I would throw I would say Roberta Martin is as someone I would like to keep my eye on. I mean, I don't He's got international experience. I don't know onene he would want or two that He's the right man for it, but I just There's a connection there that I think we can't avoid. I like that, Ronnie S Malononey' assisted. It would take three and a half weeks for the SFA to renegotiate with Celtic the contract right off. I do like that, Ronnie. I do like that. It even thought about Roberto Martinez who has obviously already announced that after this World Cup, you'll no longer be the Portugal manager. You'll probably want a shot at club management before he goes back up a national fold I'm with you boys and' as I said, I've been sae for two years and post to cooglue for me. but I'm going I agree with Callum. I think there's a really good chance it might be The time for David Moyce to take this job with only a year left at Everton and Everton have had a real tough season of it Um I think that's not a bad show, but is And not disrespect to David Moyys, is that just seamld seam Mld? Thats that way of thinking I would rather have John McGlittenon than David Moyce because I a brand of football. And I know they didn't get to the World Cup. But see the job that Craig Bellamy has done for Wales is unbelievable. and this is without the superstar players your Gareth Bales or your Ramsys, etceter. He has taken an average squad of players and they're playing some amazing football. It's exciting. It's front foot, it's forward thinking, they're scoring goals. and they were so unlucky not to qualify for this World Cup The reason they're not there is because they didn't score the penalties and the penalty shoot against Bosnia. And that so are we do we look at someone in that I mean that young up and coming up and coming fresh thinking, fresh ideas because Craig Bell andy and was he not tied for the Celtic job as well, Ron? Yeah yeah, abbsolutely. Yeah absolutely. Yeah, someone of that elk someone. Younger, a bit fiery. Yeah woralking his way up. And the way that Craig Bellamy speaks with the media, he speaks with the fans, I think he's I think he's a top top coach in the making. I really do and he's bigger and better than Wales. Something for McKennedy. Wh's he uptake? Oh, Remember was McKennedy and he was buying about how good a coach Sifny was No I' know, we'd have Syfery as assistant head coach of Scotland. I can't have that much Much likely it can of be Jon McGlenn because I kind of have called Donaldson as the captain of Scotland for the next. I'm sorry, John. But the other point I'll make this is a really we slight one, but it's one that's very important is we've backed ourselves in a corner with Steve Clark because the amount of Scotland songs that mentionions Steve Clark and his name that we're gonna to have to subo. Yeah Is Stehie Clark's manan' better thanZan How you speing How do you spepect ns post to cog when in that to you The STV radio foootball Sh is brought to you by CRSmith. Ronnie, you were saying there that obviously the team in the SFA will be heading back home today Do you expect the SFE Mike Mulani or Aine Maxwell to put a statement out to face the media. Do you think're going to say anything? What do you understand? What do you know Well you might as well release a statement last night out on the back of Clark's departure. Okay It was nothing it was more of a thank you, Steve than looking forward or addressing any of the issues that have come up. I think they'll be lucky in the sense that the football season might take over Domestic action might retome Hey lot sooner? I would like us to be in a position where we get home and each meedia outle get's a one to one with Steve with Ian Maxwell or Mike Mulini to a Top this through Hly unlikely in my opinion our chance I think I think there's a chance that they might because they are under of a lot of pressure. If you just need to go into social media to see the pressure that Mike Moren and Maxwell are under, that they're going to have to face it at some point. It's not going to go away. so why not just Just face it right now, sit in front of you Ronnie and just face those questions now I't know I you listen to I don't know I don't know what they're thinking, but if the if they And even the slightly in the slightest way the They'll get away with us They have severely underestimated the anger of the Tartan Army at this point And the problem is the anger they can now not take that anger out on Steve Clark because as you mentioned, he's done the honorable thing. that anger is still there and it has to go on someone And the only other people to do it all as those on the fifth floor at handed So I hope the pressure tolls because they should front up They are the leaders of our game And to be fair to Ian Maxwell, he's not We do at a Vham several times throughout the year and he doesn't shy away from any questions. A decent guy, Guinely a decent guy I like him a lot. nice This is this is a big test of his leadership. A big test of his to M Morain's leadership So what is the plan today Roner? the players and the team leaving today and then when are you when are your boys on the plane? That's a great question, Je, because I feel like I just probably don't. I'll probably go and cover another whyy don't we pick another team, Kallum? Let's go become Kate VirD fans and just stay here for two weeks Ronnie. My liver can't handle it. This was Ronnie and I were talking about doing this podcast this morning six hours ago over the white wine in the living room of the sameV werein. I can't keep going It's nine we' been drunk telling each other how much we love each other you No, you're a best palals.. We can't let you car draggers didn't let us. Don't let them win No so it. So yeah, the team are still in Charlotte. They are making their way home I think they'll make their way back individually. I don't think they'll go as a they flew out as a team but I think they'll fly back individually which is Also a nicely poetic way of saying that that's why we're in this position because there' more individuals in the team at this point. We fly back Ma Might Monday night US time. so we will be in the arms of our lovers Tuesday night But maybe it's at arms of each other after this who knows genuinely know. This is when it's doneed So we fly it's genuinely I know this is what we're wrapping up and we're reflecting on it. It has been A whlind Four weeks. out here. It's been incredible four weeks and that's where Thanks Steve Clark for loving us Thisess opportunity Be I said we butered the ass right out of this. Yeah, we've noticeing every podcast we've done. I hope our loyal listeners and viewers have appreciated how early we've had to get up to put together. We started this thing of doing you about three days into it, but Callum was like, when will there be daily vlog? That lasted about three days until we actually got into tournament. We could stud have any type. She said better people like, Oh like to we vlogs, when are they coming back? I was like, hey Never ca. Yeah No happening. So we know listen, listen, I'm here in Glasgow, right? And I've enjoyed every podcast that we've done from this World Cup. But not only have I noticed it punters have noticed it as well. Each time we've done a podcast Both sets of eyes from Miami I've looked like piss holes on the snow We know how good a time you've had when you've not Now listen, you work hard, you play hard. That has been abundantly clear. You've done a great job on STV news, you've done a great job in on the podcast. You've done brilliantly there in regards to your job, but you have also partied hard and we've all witnessed it. We could all see it. The amount of comments from punters going, look how hung over Ronnie Lus this morning. Where was he last night? One wee story I've got for you before we go went we drove down to Florida Keys which is like two hours from Miami, where we are. with Pete our cameraman and Chris Harvey, the other sports presenter here because we had one day off. we got one day off genuinely in the four weeks, we had one day off and it We went down, we drove down, we went into this wee bar. it was brilliant films. What was the films car that was filmed The new Roadhouse film was that filmed there were Jake Jyillenh and also there was a Humphrey Boggart number back in the day that was filmed there. Right So we're sitting and we're playing pool and all this and Chris Harry comes over to his I've just met a couple we' going on a boat. Sorry. I've just met a couple that are taking us on a boat. And there, twenty minutes later, we find ourselves in the middle of the floor of the Keys Literally Fming it alone. with this couple that we certainly Lisa. Certainlyisa. B shout it to Certain Lisa who Carum Hoffpest just kept calling the guy Matthew for substes dont Matthew Matthew. and Guinely they could have just shot us. just we did not know who these people were. This was not risk assist. honestly SDV right now' listening to this going. three different forms you you follow it before you get on a boat with two random rednecks who have guns and just have guns. Let's just go in a boat. It was it was one of the best ones ever, but it was such a mental experience. and if If that was if that was the end, Calum, I'd happily it well, I wouldn't have because you had your tap off. that's not the last moment I wanted to see in my life. I like a newborn fisher my top off. It's not a good look, but you know, went on a boat in the keys, you know? Yeah. Exactly. See before we do wrap up, just let me tease it earlier when Deb McKinnessis was unveiled as the new Rangers manager last. just tumbed up? Right, So let me tell you the story Because I did genuinely think it was going to be the first time I was going to get banned from IBrox, having never been banned from IBrox in all the years I've worked in football, banned everywhere else, but never at IBrox, but I thought it was going to happen last week You guys obviously were in the United States yourself Raman, Chris Harvey you were all there. But I knew that Brandon was going to I Broox for the media conference And I had said to Graham, our boss and to the chief I'm going to go along to represent STV radio. We've got STV, the news department are going to be there. I'm going to go along as STV radio So I had forgot how it works because before You go along to N these media conversces, you have to make the club aware that you are turning up because your name would be on a list. So I get out the car outside the main door at Ibrox and coming up the path was Andy Devlin from the Sun and also David Edgar from the Heart and Hand podcast. I see them, shake hands. how you doing? Oh Oh, you've turned up. this is going to be interesting because of the things I'd been saying about it than making his previously. So I go in the door to where the media conference is going to be. and there's three people stood at the door in front of a small table Ticking off the media people that are on the list And I walk up to the table and I could see, I don't know who it was, tall guy with dark hair, his face said it all you doing here? He didn't say it, but I could see it in his face. What the? are you doing here? And I lean over and there was a guy we kind of red a shir who was ticking names off a list And he went and I went, lookook, I'm not on that list. I goes, but Ronnie and Callum and Raman and Chris are in America, so I'm here to cover for the boys. No Jesus right. Are you kidding me? No, no, no, no, no. No, wait, wait, wait I goes I'm here to cover for the boys and I just forgot to fill out the form to send to you. so I'm really sorry. And they went So who's ahead of the PR at Rangers again? Nick? Right? So so the the red headed the red e the red headed boy goes Okay, Uan, right Okay, I'll phone ahead to Nick, but just make your way over to there. and he pointed in a direction where the media assemble before taken into the media conference itself. so they're all assembled all their computers out. So I walked in. So when I walked into this room, I kid you not The atmosphere. there was, you know he that little bit of chit a chatter. like l that noise of chit a ch. And then I walked in. everyveryone turned to see the door swing open. it was me you could the silence was deafening There's like, G, what's he doing here So I ended up speaking to Ian from this is IBrox podcast and David Edgar was there and Emma Dodds and there was a load of people in there. And I stood chatting away with everyone and about ten minutes after I'd walked through the door, I got a tap on the shoulder from Alan Potts who's also part of the PR department at Rangers He goes, can I have a word? And I got taken out of the room? And I thought, Oh here we go, I'm going to get banned from Rangers. Yes, I could put on the list. I gently thought I was getting kicked to it and he took me in that little hallway between the main door and the media the media bit And we were stood there and he went You you shouldn't be here. you're not on the list. You have to give us notice that you're going to be here. And I went, Mate You know, Ronnie and Callum and Raman and Chris H they're all in America and I mean, there's no one else here to do the job. And he went Brandon's here Oh yeah. N. Vight And I went. mate, he goes. I goes, A I getting kickedill you went? No That's not what we do here. I'm not kicking you. He goes, hereere's my number. this is class from Rangers. isays, hereere's my number If you ever want to come to a media conference or anything, just drop me a line. just drop me a message, just drop me or make a phone call. he goes to let you know how this is going to work. I'm not going to stop you from asking a question. If you want to ask a question, it's fine, just put your hand up and I'll give you a micphone. And then he told me exactly where he s said, blah, blah, blah, blah blah. Class, brilliant, professional. They could have thrown me out. They had every right to throw me out, but they didn't. And they allowed me to go into the media conference. However, I was also aware that Allen is a fan of the podcast He listens to the podcast, He said some things that will remain private between us and Yeah, he six He's a lovely lovely guy and At no point did they tell me you can't say this, you can't ask this, but I was made aware that Dereie McKinnness was very much aware of things that I'd been saying it was also very public what I had been saying and I was supp put of that video of me saying that Darren McKinnis had let himself down So I go to the media conference and I'm sat at the corner next to Brandon from STV and all the other media boys and then the microphone comes to me. And I ask my three questions. and again, I's what we put on record. see the third question that I asked where I asked De McKinis to give the Harz fans some assurances that he's not going to sign any Harse players. was That was said very much tongue in cheek with the hope that he might answer the question I got to laugh as well when I asked the question. however he did answer it. How you you on Can I say really quickly? I got sent the clip of you asking questions and L lotad of people saying like, canan you believe this? What's you on about? Ronny I watched it together and thought you were absolutely banging on me your question. Nothing wrong with it. was was you did nothing wrong in that press conference. A lot I think I think there was a few Rangers founds who were like going, who do you think you are as a heart supporter and from a club like hearts to tell Rangers one of thegest clubs incotish football, one of the biggest clubs in world football what not to do. Who do you think you are? We'll take whoever we want, We'll do whatever we want. But fair playay Dad in Mc Kenness he answered the question. But Jim Gillespie, the new chief executive, he clamped me massively I'm not going to give any assurances to any football club. We'll sign who we want. I really like Jim Gillispy. I've got a lot of time for the boys. So after that had happened, what happened at the end of the media conference is that Denn McCinis got off from the stage and he walked on the stage and the first thing he did, he turned around, looked at me and went cheers you and gave me that kind of wee reassuring nod I then went up the stairs to the main stand and then Debah McKinnness and I, along with Jim Gillespy, the chief executive had a chat And I will not break that confidence of what we discussed in the main stand What I would say about Jim Gillespy is that First impressions count He's a good guy. He's going to call it as he sees it. is's no going to take any bullshit. He's got a bit of a sense of humor about him as well. I really liked him and I think it's somebody that Rangers need. I think they've got the right person at the helm there He came across really well. It'd greating that your Christy hearts, jersey when bragging and Devil and end up at do that comes under the sun ten minutes. But Yeah, but Derek and I shoot cans. How this how still going None of None allights. Yeah I'm sittting you in thirty eight degree heat right now, surrounded by lizards It's not a nice way to describe Chris Hary. But what I would say fair pl arrangers, they were very professional, could have kicked me out, they didn't. and and it and was wait wait wait, that was Over the moon that Deie McKinnis took the time out to chat to me and explain certain things to me. And what he said in that media conference was from. Ione of that trust. No, no, no, no anyone. Shut your face shoot. what I'm saying is what he said in the media comeres about what he felt at hearts and his feelings for hearts are all true. He's not just offering lip service to the heart support. Ronnie, please move us on. I beg We're done. I'm done.
