I just wanted to give you my condolences Your dad was really quite the character when we were in college. Rind me to tell you about mister Grumball. I think you told me the Monopoly man, right? Yeah. But your dad did a spot on impression of him. That it was hilarious. I gotta go, but my thoughts are with you and your family. Next time I'm in New York, we should meet and get coffee or something, huh Yeah, looking forward to it. Thank you, Bill Hello everyone. I'm Hannah Green Blatt Louis Greenblatt was my father. He started this theater in nineteen seventy nine When he took all the money, he saved editing wedding videos and bought a rundown bakery He turned it into a place where the community could watch all the movies that he loved And he loved this place, more than words can describe. and he put his Heart and soul to it Tonight we were going to have a special guest, but unfortunately, he had to cancel And I know that you all expected him to be here and I don't know what to say. I really wish I had more to say about my father, but I just have this movie theater You still is screening, right Yes, the feature presentation will still be screened as planned. Sry, sorry, everyone. Sorry. I usually an introvert. I don't really do this very often Oh thank you. I just wanted to say that this I started coming to this theater when I was in high school. I was not a very confident kid. talalking about movies helped me find my voice, and I just wanted to say I really love this place. No, than you so much for that. My dad would have actually really appreciated that. U Oh, Yes, ma'am. Would you like to say something Hi Hi, yees. since that guy shared something, I just wanted to say my late husband and I used to come to the midnight screening all the time That's really sweet. Thank you for sharing that. Do you have any favorite screenings you remember seeing? Yeah, actually we once saw an entire evening of Buster Keaton films. Our favorite was the one with the train. The General. I really love that one too. One time my dad took me to see the mask and he went on and on about how Jim Carerey was carrying on the tradition of physical comedy. He's Buster Keaton. He's Charlie Chaplin. That guy is gonna do great things And What about you, sir? Could someone pass down the mic a few seats We could do this all night if you want, folks Every year you guys would do a week of William Castle horror movies leading up to Halloween. and your dad dressed up like a doctor warning customers to enter at their own risk. He even printed out waivers to signs saying the theater was not responsible for any distress you could suffer Thank you. Yes, you sir I remember coming in here for the first time because I got caught in the rain. and it was when they were doing a Kurosawa marathon and I had never seen a single Kurosawa film before. and now he's like my favorite filmmaker of all time. And I'm not somebody who considers himself a cineophile. Yeah, I'm sure he'd really love to hear that Phantom of the Paradise. Dood knight of the hunter. These sho horses, don't they? Panice. I've got something I'd like to share. Could you pass the mic down, please Thank you Hi folks. I'm Rina. U Lewis was my older brother I remember on my sixteenth birthday, he came down from NYU to Coney Island where we grew up Our mother had died the year earlier. It was a Saturday night and on Saturday nights The three of us would go to the movies and then get a hot dog at Nathan's. Of course, he wanted to show me this movie.. What was the name of it? It was some Italian movie Do you w to just describe it? It's the one where the Swedish lady lives on a volcano. Dromboli. Dromboli. That's it. Thank you. Lewis knew I loveved that Swedish lady. Ingrid Bergman. Okay, yes. I get it. you're all very cultured Anyway, I lo her in that movie where the murderer iss on the train. Murereress. All right, Okay, you know what? I knew that one actually Anyway, I wasn't interested in seeing some old black and white Italian film about some chick living on a volcano and being sad He said, lookook, just go with me. If you're really bored will leave, I've seen it before So we go We sit down and I'm bored instantly Oh, just get over yourselves So I nudge Lewis. I whisper, Hey, can we go And then I see He's crying So I look up to see what he's crying about And there's this scene in the movie where these fishermen Puling these big tuna onto their boats and it's very disturbing They're jamming hooks into the fish and the fish are struggling Ugh They don't cut away. It's like a ten minute scene I look around and I see other people in the audience and they're squirming in their seats while watching it And you know what I start crying to When the movie was over, he just said I'm glad we can still do this together Then we got hot dogs Thank you But and You know I used to really hate this place I used to think that my dad just wasted his entire life here instead of I don't know, being with his family But now I realized that he in this theater We' one and the same And maybe sometimes you've got to take the people you love Exactly as they are And I love movies because of my dad. and Sounds like everyone in this room does too So thank you all And Without further ado, in the true spirit of the midnight screening I present to you our feature presentation.
