Alyssa Farah Griffin Talks Jalen Brunson, U.S.-Iran Deal, & Previews 'View' Interview With JD VanceJun 15, 2026 — starts at 0:00

All right, it is Monday, june fifteenth, a very special day. It's Alyssa Farrgrriffin's birthday Hello Alyisssa. Hello Brian. Very excited to have the birthday girl behind the table. All right, so first of all, you mentioned to me last week Birthdayays' not your thing. Is that accurate? Not really. So people would think that's weird this is weird about me because I'm on television for a living, but I don't really love attention being on me. It's never since I was a kid been kind of my thing. I think it's ' I'm technically the middle if you count all my sisters ' I like stepsisters and half sisters. I just I like to kind of blend in. So birthdays can sometimes stress me out. But I had a nice low key family birthday No. But then today was amazing. Today was amazing. You had the birthday gift of Jaen Bronson. Jalen Bronson, which It was very exciting. Did you watch the game on Saturday? Yes. I mean my son was not falling asleep, but I was like, we had the best entertainment. I'm like rocking him and watching the Kicks. and it was just amazing. Amazing. Yeah. So as you mentioned, we had the finals NVP, Jalen Brunson on for really his first sit down interview on any talk show solo, which is pretty cool I thought the conversation was great. He's a really down to earth guy. so level What did you make of him? I know you're not like a real like, hardcore basketball fan but I a sports fan in general. No So I am a self identified bandwagon fan. like about three or four weeks ago when the Kicks were on this winning streak. I was like, oh, I'm tuning in. this is so fun. There's this energy in New York and like all my f my friends in New York were really excited. And he's unbelievable. L just you kind of see the way he interacts with his team and there's suchuch a respect. There's such a like just this camaraderie in how they play that I love because like, listen, I get that sports get a little dirty and that's like kind of par for the course, but I just love that there's this positivity to this specific like areera of the Kicks. And then learning that he married his high school sweetheart, which is adorable. And then the question I asked him about he's offered this massive deal with the Kicks. He ended up taking less money so they could recruit other players and then ended up winning this finals winning team. So it's like you just you want to root for good people and he's easier to root for. I mean, you talk about being a bandwagon fan and you own it and I respect that It is funny because, you know, there's all these compilations online of people Big time smart sportscasters Guys he would know, guys who might be in this building who are saying don't spend money on Jayen Brunson. He's not worth it. That's your big move. You got Jayen Brunson. you think it's going to lead to a title. And now everybody is B and down to a guy who is right now the king of New Yorkity one hundred percent and couldn't be a nicer, more humble guy. that he thinks his parents is like just just such a good dude. He could run for mayayor tomorrow. one hundred percent. Donny would be out. It's. I think M Donny would vot for him. Donn would vote for him. So the other big segment we had today, it was like a really fun show today We hosted a big dog adoption segment. This has become your This is how Alyssa celebrates her birthdays on the view. Why did you want to do that again I just love it. like dogs being so much to me. I've got Herbie and Desi, my two puppies and I think of like They're my best friends, they're part of my family. and I think of like low moments I've had that like they were my little heart's outside of my body. They're emotionally supportive, they're the best creatures. And I think every family is better when they have a dog in it. Like once you have one, you just are like, I need one. So I just w to help shelter dogs find their forever homes. and it's like we have such a big platform here and the I mean, we've every year had the cutest most sweet dogs, but the ones this year were just unbelievable. They were unbelievable. I had this senior dog. He's ten years old, Alister and if I could, I would have taken him home myself. like he's just kind and calm and I have a really soft spot for senior dogs because They' They deserve to spend their twilight years just surrounded by love and companionship. and they're also really good in easy dogs because They know how to like be around people. It's not like training a puppy, which can be a lot of work, but every single one of them was so special. And if you want to adopt them, go to our website, find out I really liked Otis if he's a Ois such a stud he was great. So I was not a part of the actual on air part this time because and no one told me this is why, but this is my theory. The last time I was Everyone, you know, everyone wants the dog that like Whoopi Goldberg had or that, you know Joy Bhar walks out. Nobody won my dog for a while. He eventually got adopted, but I feel like I was I dped into the fold? No, not initially. So it was better for me to step aside and let let the h Whoopy's dog is gonna jump off the shelf. He was so cute and he's Whoope's dog. So I didn't want to hold any of the dogs back, but I was very concerned his name was Bruce. He eventually got taken, but it took a long time All right. so like we said, you can go to the link in our episode description. if you're thinking about adopting one of those dogs Go get them. Listen now exclusively on Audible and D of the audible after today are off with your head. I'm kidding Let's jump into politics on Sunday, and this is how much we had going on today. We didn't really get into this Iran stuff, but Trump announced that the U. S. and Iran had reached a great deal He said it would be signed on Friday. I heard earlier today that the vice president is saying it's been digitally signed already Its like an auto pen situation, which I thought we weren't. Yeah, we're not f of auto pens, right? But maybe it was a docu sign I don't know. the old docu sign. Yeah. but in any case We've heard this before, which is I guess why it's not biggest news in the world right this second. And we're also there we're fuzzy on a lot of the details What do you make of what's happening so far Yes. So we are fuzzy on the details, and he's calling it a deal, I would call a memorandum of understanding.ese It's usually like a precursor to an actual deal. But based on what's public and what we know, and I caveat to say, we have not seen it. We dont There's information that could be additional does not sound dramatically different than Obama's Iran deal, which Republicans myself included, spent years criticizing and saying that it didn't do enough to prevent Iran from having a nuclear weapon. So if that ends up being the case, that means that we got into a conflict allowed the global economy to be just thrown into chaos because of the closing of the strait, only to end up in a deal that's very, very similar to the one he took us out of a number of years ago. And American lives were lost. And we cannot forget thirteen American service members were killed. And I feel like that keeps getting lost when I'm seeing Iran coverage is like it doesn't feel like a war sometimes when you're not seeing a ton of people shift off and you're not you hearing about it in your community, I have a connection to what one of the gentlemen who was who passed away and was killed and it's it feels like we're not recognizing that enough and spending enough time focusing on it. But what I also think is very dangerous is we allowed Iran to play the card of closing the Strait of Hormz. And that means that going forward and it worked. it worked. They know that they can do that. And I worry that they have tremendous leverage now. That's kind of their Trump card, if you will. And I was very critical of the Obama GCPOA because we unfroze their frozen assets, which then could be used for their terrorist activities in the region. Now the number that's being associated with this is even more money than the Obama administration ever unfroze and sanctions relief. I think this is something I'll definitely want to ask the Vice President about tomorrow. He was reportedly one of the chief negotiating partners I just want to get some clarity. And final thing which I haven't heard people talking about much is Trump has negotiated deals in the past where there are sort of what were actually called secret annexes, the deal with the Taliban that actually I worked on when I was at the Department of Defense. In that context, I do think it was appropriate because There were sensitivities with regard to national security. But I'd be curious does this have any secret annexes that may not go before Congress or the American people Yeah There is so much we don't know And I as somebody who on the show supported the killing of the Ayatlla would love to see the Iranian people overthrow that regime, which is the greatest state sponsor of terrorism in the world U I struggle to see how we are in a better place today than we were at the outset of the conflict So you have questions? I've got a lot of questions. All right. Well, hopefully we'll get some answers. And again Hopefully We can find peace here. I mean that' be a wonderful thing.'s really important to say is I even saw some of my friends like some of the Obama bros, Pods of America pointing out that Listen, they'll take it. a bad deal but ending a war where people have died is better than nothing. And I think that's actually good way to look at things. like I do not want to see this conflict perpetuated first and foremost because of American liivves being at risk. and then of course, secondarily, like it really has had a burden on people, the gas prices when inflation's already high. So I want to see a resolution But I'm nervous. it's a bad deal. Yeah. And it's worth asking was it worth it at the end. What did we get? Yeah. And luckily, we've got the vice president tomorrow. There you go. All right, so the president celebrated his eightieth birthday last night, which is kind of being you know, the number isn't getting a lot of play. It was Sunday's UFC fight on the White House South laawn We talked about the leading up to it, what we were talking about. But what did you think of the festivities in the end? I mean By the way, I would like to point out we did this is a weekend view topic. Gemini women, we are lovely. Gemini men are chaotic. Okay, so listen, I don't personally have any problem with the UFC fight, with UFC in general and doing it at the White House Except for that well, except for a few things. UFC is not for me. I don't like sports that are where people are hitting each other too hard. I don't like seeing people get hurt. I'm already thinking about the sports. I don't want my son to play down the road. But I do know people who are die hard UFC fans and they love it. I mention like they've got ten million subscribers on YouTube. It is incredibly popular with a certain fan base My issue is twofold. I don't really think it's the federal government's job to entertain us. I think that there are ways to celebrate this incredible anniversary of our country that are accessible to everyone, like some of the things they're doing at national parks that like anybody can attend and is also viewable by anyone. But this was a pay perview fight on paramount So if you're an average American who wants to celebrate the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary and wants to tune in for this, you had to pay to.ike I take a little issue with why be clear you had to pay to joinaramountlus. It wasn't payer.es. You had to pay to have the app to get access to it. And I would have loved if they would have perhaps offered it on CBS because that comes with most basic cable packages. In granted over the air Yeah. Yeah, somethingomet like that UFC paid for the programming, the production, but the security around the events, I presume the fly overver, that's all taxpayer money. So I feel like It should be accessible to anyone. and Clay Travis from Out Kick I don't agree with a lot, but he made the same point where he's like, come on, if this is for America, it should be available and accessible to everyone to watch. Yeah. So there's that and then There's the Michelle Obama point. I let Sonny have the floor on this because she said it much more eloquently than I could have The roots of racism of those things that have been said about Michelle Obama But what I also think about is If you're not offended by that Switch the names. Think if somebody in a future presidency decides to make a slur against Melania Trump and you're a Republican, how outraged you'd be? How many segments there'd be on cable newews talking about it and criticizing it and saying how it's, you know beneath the building and the land that it was set on. I just thought it was it was disgraceful. like just honestly, to compare that athlete to Jayalen Brunson, someone who thinks his God, his family, his parents and somebody else who used that moment of winning to say something just so gross. And that fighter thanked Jesus right before saying that, which is how they How does that compute for people? I will never get it. I don't know. L we're all made in the image of God and then you want to honor my God and then say something like that about our former first lady makeake it makeakes sense. Yeah. And that's the thing. I mean, listen, I enjoy UFC fight too. It seems odd to me on the White House lawn. I was trying to think like, if it were a baseball game, what I have any problem with? probablyrobably not America's pastime and everything else. But I think it's the like the val like one of the fighters ended up having to like go to the hospital. he was like, I mean, and that happens all the time in UFC I kind of feel the same. like A b like yeah, some kind of like exhibition baseball game I would think was awesome. I think I'm not super comfortable with people just pelting each other at You know, right The flyover was awesome. I love the flyover., the fly me too. too att a baseball game at a football game, anywhere. Yeah. All right, so you mentioned it, you refer to it. Tmorrow is a very big day. We have the vice presresident of the United States, JD Vance with us tomorrow. What are you looking to hear from him here Um A lot, a lot. and I'm really grateful that his team's having him come on. We have We invite a lot of Republicans on and I don't think people realize a lot of them don't come on because they realize this is a table where you're going to get questions from people with different viewpoints we've invited the vice presresident several times. Yeah. And I really, really am grateful to his team and him that he's making himself available. So I spent the weekend reading his book and And I'd read Hill Bill Eology, his former book Hb but It's really worth a read It makes me kind of understand him more. So I think there'll be a lot of there'll be questions about the book and a lot about his faith, but I really have a lot of policy questions right now. Like the most consistent thing I hear from our audience is like Where is the relief we were promised? The economic situation in this country is not great. I never blame all one president or all one administration. I think that there's impacts that you know can date back years. But we were really promised and a lot of people put their faith and trust in this president and vice president that they were going to improve their economic situation and people aren't feeling that. So there's a lot of good questions to be asked. Andm also curious to see what he's like. I know most people in Trump's orbit, but he wasn't in the first term. so I've actually I was I've never met him. I rememember that Mike Pence did an event for him when he was running for his senate seat, I think election Eve, we were in Ohio and he did a big rally. So I've been around him, but I wasn't even introduced to him at that. But I'm curious to see what he's like. And What's so unique about our show is We're a news program, but we're not a Jake Tapper interviewer or're not meet the press. an opinion,. in the way that we ask questions, we're able to kind of show a different side of leaders And I think that, you know some of these shows, it's really just, okay, we want the answers to these questions. There's a chance there's an opportunity for people to show their personality a little bit to show their softer side because we're a daytime opinion show of all women. And so I'll be curious to see like Do we get kind of to see more of JD Vance and who he is? Like he's soon to be a father. He's got I believe it's his fourth child on the way. Usa's Vance is pregnant and due very soon. So like Just to get a sense of who he is as a person would is really interesting to. Yeah. And they'll be tough questions and there always are I think every question will be tough. and I do think his teams ready for that. Yeah. I'm sure that he is and he's a smart guy. So it would be interesting to see how our millennial vice president, let's see. There we go
