The president claims Americans are primed for a party in the USA as he kicks off a DC extravaganza to celebrate the country's two hundred fiftieth birthday . I am thrilled to declare that America is back . We're respected by everybody . Nobody's laughing at us anymore. But is comedian Larry David's review of the White House Cage match that kicked off the celebration , a snapshot of the emotional state of the union for a lot of people heading into july fourth. I was embarrassed to be nervous . Then, Adam Lambert is performing his latest hit and flashion F Brackiday to his superstar duet with Cynthia Revo, and feel good Friday about an all new Oprah Daily edition of View Your Deal Here come hop topics oo whoopp, wh ing . Sarah Haynes , Joy Bayhar , Anna Navarro , Sunny Hausten and Alyssa Farra Griffin . Now let's get things started Hello everybody and welcome to the show . Riny, TGIF, right? Yes . So Trump is touting a sixteen day extravag anza in DC to celebrate America's two hundred fiftieth anniversary or birthday, I guess , and is already doing a victory lap about making America patriotic again watch. I am thrilled to declare that America is back . We were dead. Now we're the hottest country anywhere in the world. We're respected by everybody. Nobody's laughing at us anymore. We have reclaimed our sovereignty, regained our liberty, restored our prosperity, and we have saved our country in all things. We're once again putting a thing called America first . But not everyone's waving the flag right now. Here's what Larry David said when he asked about the he was asked about the UFC event on the White House lawn earlier this month that kicked off the two hundred fiftieth celebration. Watch. It was a travesting. Yeah . What else can you say about it? It was embarrassing. I was embarrassed to be an American. Yeah. So I have to say, I'm very good friends with Larry David and so I'm not gonna I think he's right in many ways. I mean, do you listen to Trum p? We used to have friends around the world. Now we don't have them anymore. So what is he talking about? Yeah, but you know, I was thinking about this and there's some people that are going to take issue with Larry David saying something like that. But there's so many countries where if you said something like that about being embarrassed by that country, you would end up dead. People places like Iran, places like Cuba, places like North Korea, places like Nicaragua , where I fled. So I absolutely support and respect his right to have his feelings about this country and say them out loud. That is what makes America America. Because we're secure about it. That's why Because we didn't even f reedom. Because we believe in freedom. When I also the only thing I hear is when he says I'm embarrassed, I say, Don't give Trump that power because Trump is here for eight years out of two hundred fifty. That's a blip in time and I refuse to hand over my patriotism, my pride of this country because even the global community knows that Americans are not happy. So I would not decide that I represent Donald Trump as an American out in the world. He happens to be the current president. And that's what it is. You can be very embarrassed and mortified and horrified by Donald Trump. But by Donald Trump , but by Donald Trump , not the country. That's what I won't hand over to him. I think that's what he was saying because they were asking him specifically about the UFC event on the White House lawn. That embarrassed me. I thought it was tacky. I just thought it was trashy . I just, you know, they they uttered a slur against our former first lady, my forever first lady, Michelle Obama. There was plenty to be embarrassed about that UFC . Yes . And you know, and our he's getting on stage and saying that we are no longer the laughing stock of the world and we are the best country in the world. Well, seventy six percent of adults across thirty six nations that were surveyed have zero confidence in Trump. Like they, you know, our standing in the world because of this president has dropped. And that is just a fact. And so I can't say, you know, I'm embarrassed to be American, but I am embarrassed by this administration. I am embarrassed by Donald Trump and I am absolutely embarrassed by what happened on the White House lawn. I thought it was trash . Well, we talked about it before, but the country is bigger than anyone president and the presidency is bigger than any one president I am, very very, proud to be an American and I have been taking in the two hundred fiftieth anniversary celebration mostly by enjoying the World Cup. I don't know a thing about soccer or football . Good looking players, but watching people come from all over the world and discover things about America is giving me absolute life. There was a Japanese fan who basically posted this, I mean, I can't even read you the whole thing, but he discovered unlimited salsa and chips and it was like it just opened his eyes to a new world. He's a safe. He's gonna have to buy two seats when he gets home. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in its salsa. Scottish fans literally drank Boston out of beer Europeans went into a waffle house and were like, This is the greatest experience of my life. We are still a great nation. We are a strong nation. We have culture and it is waffle house. No, it just reminds us that the Wuorpld C kind of feels like there's so much that unites the world then divides us. And we should look for those moments because it can feel so dark around us . But there's this beauty of things that can bring us together. We're a fat nation all over here. I'm gonna have to take jail if he wants to happen when they get their heads. Enjoy our chill. You know what? You know, bottom list This thing that Trump did between the UFC fight and then this thing this week, remember and remember it turned, into a Trump rally because basically all the artists that had agreed to participate, most of them dropped out, at least the ones that had had a number one hit in my lifetime . But contrast that to the Obama Center of Obanage , which so many people saw online and attended and was uplifting. And where Obama was able to do, this is why no wonder Trump is obsess soed with Obama. Obama basically took his Spotify playlist, his favorite artist and his favorite songs and said here, go get them. And they all showed up . Yeah, all of them all showed up. All of my god. That's why he's jealous. He's so jealous of him . And they were all so proud to be performing there in front of I called Mark Anthony because I saw that he had been there and he was the Latino. He was the one Latino artist when I called him when he was on his tour bus on his way back to Miami . And he the joy that was emanating out of him and the pride . And he told me what it meant to him as an American, as a proud American and Puerto Rican to perform in front of four different sets of presidents and first ladies bipartisan . Yeah . So yeah, that's something that Donald Trump will never think about also what I was struck by when I was watching the Obama Inaugural Presidential Library opening, he even had former heads of state show up. Angela Merkel was there. I mean, he made friends. Justin Trudeau. Justin Trudeau, he made friends with other state leaders because they respected him . And they continue to do so. Trump likes Mao Seatong, he likes Napoleon. Yes. Stuff like a state of them I also think it's this interesting moment and I feel like Democrats leaned into this in the twenty twenty four election where you know one side owns patriotism. And what I don't like when Donald Trump talks about like America's back it was gone, but because of here, America never left for me. Yeah. I've always loved this nation. I've always been proud of it. That doesn't mean it's not without flaws, but it doesn't need to be like it's all mine. They have any more. I have to say that I'm embarrassed for this country the way he's been treating immigrants. Yeah. He's been separating kids from their families. He's been doing, I mean, my family came over here like a hundred years ago. The Italians came here. You know, Italian Americans are some of the most patriotic people in the country. And one of the reasons is because they came from poverty in southern Italy and came here and they were like America. God bless America you know . And now he treats immigrants the way he treats them. And of course Larry is embarrassed to be an American. In that way, we should all be. Embarrassed of the president. So the Wall Street Journal interviewed parents who are using the GLP one weight loss drugs like Wegovi. You know all about that, right ? To help their kids as young as nine who are struggling with obesity, even though the FDA only approved some of these drugs for kids twelve years old enough. Obviously parents should consult their pediatricians. But if this was your kid , would you consider it? And the kid, you know, some kids are pre diabetic, whatever, and they're heavy. Would you give them kids born out I mean, I was a chubby kid and I've battled weight my entire life. I also think sometimes parents are a little crazy because there's a difference between having a kid who's maybe five pounds overweight and one that's eighty pounds overweight. But I remember when I first went on this shot, I asked the doctor, what are the long term effects? And they really don't know what the long term effects of using it for weight loss is. But she said to me, look, we don't know the long term effect of using these drugs for weight loss, but we do know the long term effects of morbid obesity. And my mother had just died of kidney disease brought on by diabetes. So for me, that was a choice, but that was my choice. I hate to think of what putting kids on these drugs will do for their mental state , for their self esteem . So I'm really kind of torn about it because also being the chubby kid or the fat kid means you're going to get bullied . Means that you're going to have issues when you know what he did we keep reading about how the brain is not even formed until you're twenty seven years old. And their body fast year to year. When you look at the pictures of kids around this age, that's why I'm, I mean, again, I am not an expert and I totally concede that it's child to child and the doctor advised. But when you look at a nine year old, they're they're not even right now at the age where they're the I mean, I'm sure it happens, but I haven't even witnessed them being aware of the bullying and things. So I feel like it will happen in the next couple years, but if they're saying twelve, there might be a reason for the body settling in a little more because right now if you look at my kids' pictures, their shape changes all the time and they're just they're not self medicating with food. They're young. They're actually using hunger cues. So like at that point, I don't know if you toy with it. I'm very torn over it because I think honestly consult a doctor because if a child is morbidly obese , that could have so many health consequences for them down the road. And if a doctor believes that medical intervention is necessary, I could be open to it. But my gut is a couple of things. You want to teach good lifestyle habits and good diet habits when somebody's young and can still inter nalize them. And not saying that these shots don't make you do that, but I think having a kid go through like you want to do physical activity. There's a reason we have physical education in the class like in school because we want kids to have those healthy lifestyle habits , teaching them diet early on so that they have those life skills forever. And I do worry about body image because I do think sometimes when parents say, hey, you are overweight , that sticks with the kid too. There has to be is there an issue with obesity in children now because they're always there? Well, that's the problem. twenty one that's the problem. Get them off their phone. Well, twenty one percent phones. There's a lot of genetic diets That's what they think. twenty one so poverty. There's a lot of kids who live in food gases where they can't get vegetables. And they don't eat and they can't eat well. So twenty one percent of US children and teens, ages two to nineteen, do have obesity , according to data collected by the CDC. But in the nineteen seventies, only about five percent of children and teens had obesity. So our food isn't as good as it used to be. Yes, kids are on their phones, much more. Kids used to play outside, but obesity has been found to be genetic . Right. And so a lot of it. A lot of this. A lot of it is a family that feeds them a lot. I think if the kid is twelve and over and your doctor is saying, this your child is obese and this drug will help, I don't have a problem with it. Well, we also got a quack dock doctors though out there who are medicating just very easily without for just getting the money. And it was it you that just pointed out poverty because supplemental food is never the best quality food. So sadly the people that are struggling the most to eat at all are being given food that will naturally jack their system. So you're not in favor of it for not really. I think they're too young I don't think I would take it if I weren't in my reproductive years like that or breastfeeding or something like that, I think there's issues that you would not do. No, because it's different if I'm making the decision for myself , then I'm making it, you know, for somebody else. You know what I mean? most w doonct'orst prescribe it while breastfeeding or if you're trying to get pregnant. Really? Okay, I want to try to get it further . Talk to your pediatrician. Your pediatrician. Yeah, that's the key to the whole all of this with the measles and polio shots , everything. We'll be right back Madonna is in the news. Madonna, Madonna, Madonna , Rabin Williams, very funny. Anyway, she's been entertaining and shocking audiences for decades, but she recently told Interview Magazine that she no longer has any intention of taking her clothes off. What about you, Joy? I don't want to shock the world. The sixty seven year old icon says, this is her quote. I don't want to be naked because everybody's naked. I want to do what people are not doing, which is thinking and wearing clothing. Wait, wait, go. So wait , so I read this article right to prepare for this . And then I open up Instagram and I see a picture of her which is very similar to like basic correct. I'm like correct. I'm like the whole thing is sheer and I'm practically seeing her huha. Yeah . So this is after that interview. So she was an interview. She must have changed it. That's from yesterday. She changed her mind . By lunch, it's my daughter. She can do whatever the hell she wants. I think fifty is the cutoff. Nothing. No, it depends Jaylo's in her fifties. Yeah. Martha Stewart was on the cover. Berry. No, you don't want to say Nana is naked. You know what I mean? It's not right. Listen, if I had the thigh gap that Madonna , my mat is really hot. You don't want that. I look like Madonna, I'd be out there in two coconut shells and a band aid . Where's the bandy? Where does the bandaid go? Yeah, that could be a problem . I do love the implication that no one's thinking though. She's like, everyone's naked and no one's thinking. No, it's like that's pretty accurate. No, but you know, but to be, I mean, when I go to the doctor, I bring a blindfold with me . Just in case I'm gonna be naked. I don't even like the doctor to see me naked. No really. I'm not my best self naked. Well, there are days there are moments, we'll say , but I don't like I feel clothes give me confidence. Like it's how you wear your clothes. That's the first impression. It's yeah, you know, I don't know. So I'm not a hooty shower anyway. But was she naked? Was Madonna actually naked in her shows or partly naked? Was she one of the naked over you? The things the things the cars cones. Jump on those cones are now knee pants . She has a sex book. She's very sex positive, but the only thing I was surprised by was the implication that like pop stars are more naked now than they were. I feel like we've been naked for like decad es now. Any more naked yeah . And in fact, there's actually more who aren't now, like Billy Elish and stuff. Now you can just think you don't have to be naked . But she was kind of on the cutting edge of the provocative, you know, I mean no one, came out with cone boobs in tow ers. All right, that's enough for this . That was pop star Adam Lambert performing with Cynthia Arrivo in Jesus Christ superstar at the Hollywood Bowl. His new album simply called Adam is dropping soon. He's here to tell us about it right now. Please welcome the very talented Adam Lambert. Hi . Hi. Hey. How are you? I'm good how are you? Well, you know, we just saw a clip of you and Cynthia Rivo. Wow at the Hollywood Bowl. That was last August you did that and people are still going nuts over it. Did you think it was gonna be such a big hit? No , not at all. I mean, I was really excited. You know, I've wanted to sing that show since I was like a kid. Oh, really. I never have done it ever. I've seen it a hundred times. And when they told Cynthia was going to be playing Jesus, I said, Oh , God sign me up, you know, and I was really exc . But yeah, I had so much fun and it was so intense and it was only three shows, but a dream. Had you been at the Hollywood Bowl before? I played the Hollywood Bowl with Queen. I think twenty sixteen, seventeen, something like that. Venue. Yeah, yeah. Well, you walked out here to Eat You Alive from your self titled album. Yeah , the new one. Yeah , I understand New York served as a big inspiration for this album . And you recently moved here from LA. So do have you had any classic New York moments? Like how you're at the treatment exactly. Listen, I've been visiting for years. Always have fun here. Always had a great time. Know a lot of people here from the theater community . It was just time. It was time for a change . You know, I think life comes in chapters and I was like, I'm ready for the next one. Yeah. Let's do it. Yeah, and I'm loving. I'm living downtown. They're killing me too. Yeah, you are funny. I would wear this. I would this looks like the most nightmarish thing to wear through TSA. I've never done that. These are good UK shoes and lethal weapons. Absolutely. For New York for the song.. I live downtown Tell me about your new chapter. You say that you hope your songs on this album, Adam, connect with anyone who's been through the process of self acceptance . So when you're writing, what does that feel like? What does that look like? It's therapy really. I mean, on this album, especially, I challenge myself to just not filter myself at all. So yes, there are songs that are uplifting and about confidence and me patting myself on the back, but then there's also songs in this album that are very revealing and me kind of looking in the mirror and going, well, you messed up here. This isn't a good thing that you did. And recognizing your faults and what you need to work on is so important and accepting yourself fully , or else how can you grow? And as you know, as a creator, this is what I wanted to put into this project because even though it's all very personal to me , I feel like most of the ideas are pretty universal and everyone 's gone through some sort of version of that realization before. Well, that's good. Yeah. That's good. That's the beauty of art. You can kind of find your way into and connect with people, you know? It's my favorite thing. Well, the New York Pr Midayarch is this Sunday , and you've been a light for so many people since you busted onto the scene on American Idol in two thousand nine. I can't believe it's been that long. I remember watching . I can't believe it's been long either. I'm like, seventeen years. It's crazy. Let's not do the math Are there artists or songs that were there for you as you were kind of coming to terms with your own like that you related to on a universal level? Not necessarily when I was coming to terms with my identity, my sexuality. There wasn't much. There wasn't a lot. And so I think one of the things when I got into this business after Idol , I wanted to own it. I wanted to be proud publicly of who I was and talk about it as in some hope that it would create a ripple effect of positivity for people. I think at that time visibility was so, so important because there wasn't a lot of in people's minds, I think in the mainstream public, there wasn't a big diversity of what the LGBTQ community looked like. Yeah. It was kind of like a couple stereotypes. So I was like, you know, let's let's be proud and open and like not be shameful about it. And the spectrum that we are. There's so many different ways. And it's changed a lot. It sure has . But what music inspired you? Oh, I mean, on this album, I actually went and sort of referenced a handful of artists from the nineties that I really loved. When I first was a teenager and listening to pop music and alternative music, the groups that always made a big impression on me were the ones that blended a little bit of that alt rock thing with electronic . So this album is very much a love letter to that type of production and that world. You know, they say like with an album like it's all about world building. So I was like, okay, let's do it. The whole thing is needs to sound cohesive. I wanted to create art for it that kind of evoked your imagination. It's almost like science fiction, almost. Some of the imagery like a post like these. Yeah, it's like yeah, it's like a post apocalyptic future thing. Tin man . Well yeah. Well, you have a heart somewhere in the middle. It feels very Egyptian to me. Yeah, there's like a couple different things. Some Deckos, some Egyptian. Yes, articles. Maybe a little Freddie Mercury's got a little bit of a little bit of dune. Yeah. A little dune. I just wanted to I think the inspiration behind it was, you know , we're living in an interesting time right now . It's not necessarily a walk in the park. There's a lot of challenges, people are frustrated, there's a lot of anxiety. I wanted to like face that feeling and not shy away from it. Some great words horse with no name. It's crazy with no water. I mean , and it's to me it's like you can do one of two things as a pop artist. You can either create full escapism, which is very important as well. Yeah, or you look at what's going on and you kind of embrace it. And even though these are about personal experiences, I think a lot of the feelings on here can translate to like the general feeling that we're all kind of in there. We'll see themselves in it. I hope so. Yeah. Yeah. Now you're doing album release shows in a few cities, including right here in New York at the Brooklyn Paramount on july fifteenth. Everyone, go check it out . And now you're going to sing under the rhythm for us. Tell us about this song. This is the new single. Filmed a video a couple of weeks ago that I'm really into. The album starts out. It's kind of heavy, it's a bit dark in the first half. And then it kind of turns a corner . There's a big breakdown ball ad and then this song comes and it's this is sort of about acknowledging that you're going through or you've been through something difficult and then figuring out a way to pick yourself up and carry on one foot in front of the other, one day at a time . You know, that's really important to be able to push on. Yeah. So it's hopefully it inspires people and lifts them up. . You're a wonderful talent adam. Oh, thank you. An interesting and talented and b rillian in many ways. I just talked to you. Keep your self. Well, so the way The new album is called Adam. It's simple, but it says it. Yeah. And it's out July tenth to find out when he's coming to a city near you. Go to our website performing under the rhythm. Here's Adam Lambert Where is my mom ?
