England Struggle Against Ghana & Ronaldo ScoresJun 24, 2026 — starts at 0:00

Hello and welcome to the TFo Football podcast. I'm Joe Devine and I love it when people sing the flutes to me. Thanks producer Jamie. Now, what are we talking about on today's show? Well, before I get there, let me tell you we're recording this in the immediate aftermath of England Nil Nil Ghana. I'm very sad. But I'm joined by Carl Lank, which makes me much happier, Hi Kar Hello. you seem quite happy? Of course I'm quite happy. There you go. We've got a happy K anankor. we've got a mildly sad Kaya Kinak. I'm allright. I don't feel too sad. I'm fine. There you go. And we have a perplexed, confused and infuriated JJ Ball Hi That's right. We'll find out why very soon. Now, as I said, we're recording this in the immediate aftermath of the England Ghana game, so we don't know the results of anything that has happened after this point. We're also live on YouTube. So if you're listening to this afterwards, we were live when we said all these things and also we've just been live doing a watch along for the England Ghana game. We're doing those watch alongs most days, so if you want to join us You can head over to the athletic FC YouTube channel. in order to do so. Now, what do we talk about on tonight's show? Well, First off, England's inability to break down Ghana. We also we looked what looked like a clear penalty that England are pretty lucky wasn't given. Gha's a great performance we talk about too, we also play a Rndo, very excited to get to that part of the show And pass the first part of the show. Cristiana Ronaldo starts scoring for Portugal against Suzbekistan. we're going talk about a little bit. France win last night after a serious delay halfway through and Bapa makes it sixteen goals in sixteen World Cup appearances, which is absolutely wild. We're going to check in on points of Bad and we've got the fourth installment of the second handand eBay game very exciting. You don't know what that is K Carl, but you're going to love that bit. You're going to help us decide who the winner is as whoa, there we go. So with that all said, Later, someone will add music to this pause Yes, welcome. Okay, now let's begin of course by talking about England Nil Gha Nil. England held by very impressive Ghana side in Boston, a result which has essentially guaranteed both sides progress from Group L through to the round of thirty two, England just slightly ahead by one goal difference, as it turns out England only three of their nineteen shots on target, registering seventy nine percent possession, but were unable to break down Ghana's low block, but also Ghana's mid block at times in the second half as well. what I don't want to do blocks All of the different types of blocks. We shouldn't do down the defensive performance because it wasn't just one of sitting very, very deep on the mine. In fact, let's start there, Carl. Ghana were better than we expected and also they were deeper than England expected, according to Anthony Berry, Assistant coach at halft time, as well, said they were ten feet deeper than England had expected I mean, I'm very angry about it, but they were great. Yes. This has been something that's been in the offering For a while now, in that moment that Garana hiire Cosquiros So a very, very short turn aroundound, Auto addo was sacked in the march international breaks due to our fiveive one defeat to Austria. Carlos Karo has got announced. fewewer than seventy days before the tournament started. and the moment was announced, my eyres flew over my head and went, o Gara I'm going to play softerball. Now before we get into this, I've got to make this very clear. I was born in London, bothoth my parents are Guardian, I got messages throughout today about who I was supporting and I didn't give anyone answer until messages the British Museum at full time, saying, well now we get to keep the Asightic gold. Okay Carlos Kurz is known mostly in the United Kingdom and I'd say mostly in Western Europe for his time as the assistant manager to S Axberg as Magester United very famously. Mages United win the Champions League with Kurz as the assistant manager. He was very, very close with Cristiana Ronaldo when Chriana Ronaldo went from being this somewhat inefficient winger to this all conquering goal scoring pire Well known, I'd say in smaller international nations and what I term nations in the global South Be someone who gets teams, to Sufferable Yeah or Haramble depending on how you want to describe this. He gets teams gets that he gets a lot out of a little. Is he like to those teams what for a while Sam Allldardce was to like a relegation battling team in the Premier League? Almost. In fact, you could even make the argument and we nearly made this argument in twenty twenty two when I did some other TifFa videos that Karaserz is maybe one of the original progenators of Suffer Bable. Yeah. So this is a man who has managed Oman, Egypt he take he's taken Iran to three World Cups, including twenty twenty two where they lost six two to England and he's very, very well known to no one has fun when when a Kioskos side is playing it's a very, very well known overdog. Yeah if his teams are other David and up against alive, he will smother the space. it will be four hundred five one or five for one and it's very much if you're going to try and beat us, you are going to have to do it by slinging cross after cross after cross after cross after cross because Gana veryer much went ins that game with very little intention to get more than possession. Yeah. and they didn't. And they didn't. And I think it was really interesting in them And they were unlucky not to win That Barry at halftim, who's been quite enlightening with these halftime conversations said he believed Gha set up ten to twelve meters deeper than he expected, which I'm sorry should have expected that. However Gana were going to play against Panama was not how they're going to play against England because England are very much the strongest side and you also bring to the fact of thereort slightly more histor emotional narrative of playing against your former colonial power, there was definitely going to be some form of Gan are going to get up for this game more than we're going to get up again for Panama. Panama was a winnable match whereas playing England was very much we have to make sure Ghana don't get trrousced because they need to maintain their goal difference. Yeah I think that's why Ghana for The first half played in such a Doged And if you're not a Ghana fan, ressing fashion sureure, sure sure. I mean actually despite being very upset by England's maybe poor performance and we'll get on to talk about that a little bit, all three of us were watching that game props to the Ghana players defending. there were some lovely moments and as we say, I think I'm unlucky to not get a penalty, unlucky to perhaps not come away with the win One more thing, just on what you said there. You talked about Anthony Barry saying at halft time a little surprised how deep they were. Based on that, do you think that England may have selected different players they had if they'd expected Ghana to be ten players deeper? ten meters deeper The sort of tweet length review of this game was Ghana played suufferable to frustrate England to making bad football decisions. and I think the England team that was probably a little bit too respectful of Ghana's counter attacking threat. very surprised didn I mean alsoso Barry's half timee talk halfime intered BBC said the halftime talk was telling the players about patience. Yeah. whereereas I robably could have gone early with those changes Yeah because I don't think Athony Gordon had a very had a very good game Rese James and Madawi weren't quite clickking on the right hand side and we've gone a so preoccupied with force England out wide, England probably should have moved to improve their wide options quicker. C I' a point you were making as well? Yeah. ye, I just feel that England looked a lot better when Bakaya Saka came onto the pitch. I think they looked a lot better actually when Nony Mad went to the left hand side and was able to kind of get to the bylineer and put crosses in. I kind of feel that when you're up against low blocks There's particularly in modern game where wingers are always cutting inside onto their stronger foot There's something to be said for like old school wing player where you can just beat a man and get the ball into the box. I know it sounds maybe traditional, but it works against these kind of teams. I do think England's best chances be it from set pieces when they were crossing balls into the box or from open play when they were getting into the by line and getting balls into the box. that's when they created their best moments and looked like they were going to cause gone are the most problems. I also think like Carl said that Thomas Tuool waited too long to make the changes like Marcus Rashford, for example. I know he cut in from the left and up've been saying that Madaay can look good on the left, but he only came on in the eighty second minute and looks to be more of a threat. Saka came on quite late. I know there's a fitness thing there But I just feel that maybe England' got such strength and depth. Come off the bench plays like Ebrettezer plays like Morgan Rogers made a real difference when they came on and occupied the central areas where Ghara were really comfortable in the first hour of the game Maybe you could have made those changes a bit quicker. you could made them a bit earlier. I think you could tell from P about fifty minutes in that Ghana weren't going to really change their game plan too much. How did you feel about the Rice Anison pivot it worked But I don't think it was needed for as long as it was needed So I get the idea of trying to be respectful of the counter stacking threat that Ghana had I just think that Rice is such a good play Andisten, to be fair is a good player that you can kind of leave one of them on their own to do that job. which often happened when they were stopping counter attacks. Yeah, yeah. And I think England looked their most threatening when they had Ez and Rogers ahead of Rice's alone pivot and I don't think you needed to ostensibly defensive midfielders against The Ghara team was as you saying, playing suufferball. so ye I don't think it was needed for as long as it was. Yeah. I mean JJ, we've heard a little little bit about this already, but England really struggled to break Ghana down in the game. It didn't feel as though I think you know Ghana had a half chance at the beginning of the second half, which we all instantly said, Well, that's the best chance of the game so far. So despite England having loads of the ball, they didn't really do that much with it No, bit. I mean, I said to you this is a bit like I'm watching loads of teams play against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. they' so much better. England are so much better They like there's lots of other ways you can choose how to win a game. The best way for Gana to do that is do exactly what they did, sit deep, you block in space. It means you can't get Gordon and whoever else running in behind, which we've seen them do in the first game and they're running behind. So don't let them do it know that they're going to struggle to try and break that down. you've think them do that for years. likeike then the last World Cup or the last two It's just like Nhing happens, they get a penalty, they score, then they hold up together and they get through, they play a good team they go out. That's what tends to have happened with England over the last while. And so they want to play more on the front foot, but you can't do that and the team's blocking all your space And then they were played a bit higher up, I think in the second half, Ghana. they tried to go a little bit at them so they could counteratack. The first half is a case of don't let them in, frustrate and then later you can go. It's like there's no, I don't think they're doing lots of overly tactical things. It's just like D don't let them in, don't frustrate don't do frustrate, don't let them in and then you can go from there. You give yourself a platform to build from because then you know that your whole plan is to get the fast ls forward, you might snatch something And as long as the rules of the game are applied, you should be able to get your just rewards like penalties when someone slides into you from the air from behind. And so those are kind of things that you want to happen, you know. players slide on air. Well, of course if someone flies through the air and tackles you from behind in the penalty area normally it's a penalty But you cant Sometimes the rules change. Sometimes they change. And so Gana tried to deal with that as well. I thought there was no need to be fetious Now we all agree it was a penalty. how about that? One thingne point you did make in the second half though is you mentioned Phil Foden's name three or four times and you just kept saying, I think Phil Foden would have made the difference in this game. I thought it was a huge error for England. So like I agree with some of what Ky is saying, but I don't think it's that bad to just wait a bit longer. You to trust the players and they're basically through anyway. If you start taking them off early because you're not good enough. it just sends a wrong message. I think you just wait and it's every chance you get that random penalty again, they're depending so well. thousand million times in Scotland. You do it again and again and again a one mistake and then you end up conceding, but that's the you knowicane completely Exactly So that could have been it, you know these things happen, you get have to get a chance and it happens. So they didn't they've got a point. they're still in the World Cup, but's it's all fine. And my point I was going to make was because because your question was Foden. Foden. Yeah. So like if you're playing against teams like that and you want you want lots of movement to give options to pass to And so you often had like Kanes dropping out, but he should be in the last lines we can score. I know he does this wonderful thing where he wonders, but just leaving the front lines we can score. He didn't do that much dropping g. There's no needame th. They were so deep like what you to do youd just be like playing in your own box for no reason So Forden players at Forden help you speed the play up when you're trying to zing in and one touch pass things like that. I don't doubt playays at Bellinghon can do it, but he feels heavier than someone like Forden Well like Rogers even. so like I'm sorry. Phil Foden Innational football and Phil Forden Manchester City two very def I'm fully with you Phil Forden against this guun in defence would have been eaten alive I think later on, I don't into from the start, but like later on when you're trying to ping it into him, I don't think Fdem was just for one touches though. I think the player that Tuu should have brought on was Mainu I disagree. ag We had It should have been Bron wasn't actually a final third player to bring on that inter playay. It's someone who can offer press resistance in centr your midfield. No because I think it carries the ball too much. So like so he carries it and what you want is to fire the ball forward. No you need you need to carry it to There's nothing to carry into. There's nosemble the sha and a structure. that Guardian P place would have panicked if Maineew beat the first last line. I put it to you. he would have lost the ball doing that and they would haveit on the counter attack. Whereas if you have players you Perhaps.erhaps that's the risk and that's why too she didn't br him entirely. but I think Phil Foden in an English shirt is so vastly different from Phil Fod in Manchester. And again, I totally get it. you want Indeed, if there was a player that you that' left back at home. Givesite. Yeah, that's the That's the. Thank you. So that's the thing, right Sos I don't necessarily mean literally fotating but that sort of thing.. Like when you watch catalysts. Yeah when you watch Spain and Germany as well, when your opinion one touch passes, you need players that can do that to try unlock that and had the rotations and stuff like that. So like Gordon can't beat his man on the outside, can't do it. Madawak he was struggling to it on the right but did a lot better and they're so deep there' no space run into anyway. So you new players in the middle who were moving to offer you the bounce passes. and then he saw it towards the end, just slow like like trad England just like taking two, three, four touches when you probably need to be speeding it up and get the tempo going. But like also there's no rush yet. like you don't want to rush it and give it away. They're all right. Like everyone's going all panickic. It's that both these teams now have a ninety percent chance to topping group L I'd say bracket and the way it's currently structured means England Okay, there's this Threat shall we say, that England might end up playing Mexico in Mexico city, but I still think England's got the talent And squad that get past them. those are the kind of games and events and environments that you want at a World Cup. England will is this will probably be the most unique fixture England will have at this World Cup campaign. Yeah. Every other team in this tournament will want to play football a little bit more than Ghana led by Carscaros. What do you think about Dial Congo and the round of thirty two, that's currently the most likely team D Congo have more attacking players and a greater more of a collective structure in their defensive scheme. I think there are some particularly when we look at the African nations. There are some African nations that play defensive football and there are some African nations that are actually good at defending. So Morocco' both. So Morocco have a very, very good collective defensive structure and also their one v one defendant is quite good. What you saw a lot Today. Tonight now, I should say, is Garana players orker' creating situations where the defensive scheme was, you have to beat your opposite player one v one. Yeah. Now when you have a match upp like Sinea up against Anthony Gordon, Sinea just went, I am not you're going to try and cut inside every single time and I can I match you in a sprint And he locked him up every single time. and whenever it got too tricky, maybe someone came over. And there were two or three moments right in the first half stoppage time. Guardian structure broke down. So then you just saw three or four Guardian players just collapse on English players. So three Guardian players running over to stop Harry Kinge before he gets that shot off and then moments like there four Gardian players just surrounding Maduo which again is the sort of offensive stuff that you Yeah you see in say NFA cup fourth round when it's a team that playing a slightly rotated team because they have Champions League duties against the somewh far lower down the pyramid, which is We arere just going to throw bodies at this and hope that the ball bounces in our favour Other teams, particularly when you get in the knockout round will go, well, if we throw three defenders at you in this circumstance, hopefully England will have the forceight to go, wait three defenders around on me. That means there's one less defender somewhere else pining it over. Yeah But it happened once, I think, during the whole game and then then nothing came of it. I think it I think it's a unique situation of playing against an opponent that's going to be way up for playing in England basically bought seventy percent of teams at this walk upp due to the historical context. going up against the manager who has made setting underdogs up in a defensive fashion his bread and butter for the better part of fifteen years. and an England team that unfortunately Sccer is dealing with an Achilles injury and get out of their own way Yeah. How do you feel about Anthony Gordonant left wing right now I don't think he's that great unless he's got space to run into behind. Obviously he's a fantastic footballer and I would have my abd in a heartbeat. etcet. A lovely guy, I'm sure Let's go out for drinks, but yeah, I don't think It works in that against that sort of thing. I've never seen him be able to go past a man with a real bit of magic. There's no like croquettas in there. It's all like run fast Pmer like Im a prem Link player, run, you'll be amazing in Spain. think It' be fantast. I think'll be very good Barcelon. I think Hansy Flake of the high pressing system and the highline defensive line be really, really useful there. and he likes he can be good at crashing the back. He puts in the shift as well. I like play and he puts in the shift doesn't get space to running bide and If there doesn't a space to runin behind, it can be quite hard for him to get most of his game off and there was This is making a ten percent chance he was going to be allowed to run in behind against a Gh. But you've spoken there about how unique the Ghanaian challenge is right? and a lot of the criticism of this England squad is they left out players like Fon and like Palmmer, like Gibbs White, players who are sort of technicians in behind. But this squad To me built to get the best out of Harricane. Absolutely. Players like Anthony Gordon and players like Nonny Maduke, players like Marcus Rashford Bak Kayasaka get the best out of Harrry Kane because he can drop a bit deep and you get those guys running behind. and The England squad Thomas Tles built it to play a very specific and certain type of football that Ghana are uniquely equipped to counteract and when you don't offer any space in behind, it's going to struggle. But the kind of games that England are going to face if they want to go deep into these tournaments are not going to be more like Ghana. They're going to be more like the Croatia game which they had in the first game So I think you can argue that maybe Thomas Tool should have built A Swiss Army knife type squad that was capable of dealing with all sorts of challenges they're going to come up against. or you can have a squad that's kind of more like a machete that's just going to come and just cut through all the opposition and get the best out of their best player who is Harry Kaine. So I don't think the struggles tonight of indication for people who are critical of the squad that Thomas Ter picked. I kind of think it's the opposite and kind of focusing too much on this individual game. England not going to I don't think England will go to win World Cup They're not going to w or lose the Worldup bas on this particular group stage game. I think the challenges that are coming up are going to be bigger and different. I still think this English squad is really well equipped to deal with those. So I think that yeah Thomas Tule can still feel vindicated as vindicated he did against Coratia and, you know, on another night. Harrry Kane takes that chance and you know, we're not talking about these kind of things. No do you think based on the two games you've seen in England that they have enough to Win everything I think I worry After today's performance that it depends entirely on the teams that we come up against And also I think that I agree with the points being made by Karl and by Kaya that maybe Ghana do pose somewhat of a unique threat against England I think any any other team though only has to look at what Gana have done And think, well, that worked quite well. R Ben thatr France France are, but Dio Congo might. like Mexico and Mexico City might do that, right?ike you you might think actually look you know as an England fan, I look around at the other elite teams who will possibly win this tournament. and I'm looking for what their weaknesses are And I think England's weakness has been exposed today, which is that they couldn't break down a low block despite the fact that it was a terrific defensive performance They They didn't look like scoring until the seventieth minute when there was the, you know, they have a header which on replay wasn't even going in anyway. I think it was also interesting that towards the second half, you could see Thomas Stel get visibly agitated towards Decklan Rice Yeah and other players at the speed at which they were progress in the ball. So in against Croatia Barry mentioned this sort of twenty twenty four yards. in the middle and so there's this belief in England camp that. They need to accelerate play in the twenty four yards in the middle field and you need to really move it out of this quickly because if you don't teams will get too settled and then the game becomes far too turged. and they were terrible at that time. what he's been doing all season as well. Yeah like So it's really hard when players are trained to do one thing all season long and it's so successful and then changing the tempo completely so alien. we saw like Arsenalss Delan Rice in the second half of the season. So when England was three two up against Croatia Having watched as JJ soort eloquently put it, Trad England or South England At three two against Croatia, I was looking at te everythingvision going England are far to open what's going on here You should just fall back into your shape, try and smother the game Essentially, do some suufferall Because Southgate mentioned that ahead of year of twenty twenty, he commissed they did a report looking into winning international teams. They looked at Portugal in twenty sixteen. Santos Lo Suffable. France in twenty eighteen, Dchamps love Sufferable. and he there's essentially the English FA went, you win international tournaments by. playing that way playing the way D Chrumps as France did, playing the way that Portugal did in twenty sixteen, which is you essentially kill off twenty minutes by playing really slowly and then you go for that set piece goal and you sit on that and you hope that your superior collective defending or One v one defending will essentially just smother the space What we're seeing at this World Cup in particular for we eight teams Things being split into quarters, however you want to describe it and also a far smaller gap between the haveves and the have nots is teams that are trying to sit on one goal leads get punished because the ball bounce varis, however Um So Tushu is trying to change that. He's trying to not play in that south gate just sit it Problem here for England, I think, especially against Garnals, they didn't get that first goal Yeah. So they couldn't default back into Southgate methods even though They fell back into it at some level there. They couldn't fall back into an un comfortable shape they wanted to, I should say. Yeah. And then this new method, this accelerated very, very quickly in that middle I think they're far too respectful of Gona really. Delan Rice mentioned Ghana being strong the coun attack She she mentioned Gana being str on the counter atttack. I've watched a lot of Ghana games When they counter attack, they very rarely do it with more than two players because they've got so many men behind the ball In a two or three times Semenyo got the ball And today he had basically no support or Nky Willams gotten the ball. and he had to pause because he needs to wait for players to get back. Pus it's okay to foul them as last man and' nothing happen. It happenens. Yeah. which confused me, of course from the perspective of going, you don't need to have be passing the ball circulating around especially when you' got play like Dckan Rice who is in my mind, absolutely phenomenal stoping charteracts by himself. Yeah So yeah, England inadvertently playing into Gardian hands Um They couldn't default a suufferable because they're up against amaster a suufferable. Very sad out suufferable. I'm not really sad about that. I'm sad. sad. you go to around the thirty two? I don't know becauseuse I want everything all the time. A the English mindset. there you go. that's the one. Just before we move on, we're going to go to a break and play Rndo very quickly, but I want to get you the most animated I've seen you in I think two and a half years It was a penalty, JJ It's one of the most nonsensical decisions I have ever seen now. I will say it fully It's ridiculous. If anyone hasn't seen this the time code, you can go and watch it somewhere like the BBC dam. Oh I've skipped where it was, but anyway it happened in the game. Sventy eighth minute U E coner he leaps in, he flies in from behind with two feet The Canadian player is fully in behind running through on goal. He's in the box about to shoot. It'ss a goal score opportunity. Cag's flying in B both feet and manages to hook him around them and foul him on the side and the back It's a It It couldn't be more of a foul. if you were deliberately trying to get sent off, that's what you would do. I think it could be more of a foul, but it is a one hundred of course he could have like put his feet into his back or like No no, he just could have done a much a worse foul. Yeah, I think there's a worse foul in there. I agree it's a penalty. It's very, very funny.. But the weird thing is that not only good obviously it's obviously a penalty and probably a red car for denying go score opportunity No one says anything. What was was we? You're right. We asked the live chat for people all around the world who are watching in their respective countries. And just every couple of minutes, another message would come in from somewhere else in the world saying, yeah, the Danish commentary aren't talking about it. the Irish commentary aren't talking about it. was' offs I've watched it. It's not offsite. We didn't hear from anyone doing Ghanaian commentary and I expect they may have mentioned it. I don't know But it was weird. Wayne Rooney put an update on the BBC live bllog saying I think that was penalty. I wouldn't be insp to see that given. But it was weird how how little, I mean it's not weird that look the English commentators didn't really want to talk about it, but ye Yeah, like it's it's fine and welliled seem like I think that probably was a penalty, but it it's not that it's, I think probably was got way with one there. It is It is a blatant foul It is It's he dives in with two feet from behind, ticks him out he's about to shoot. It It's not unclear. Yeah, it's so clear. It's my comparison earlier being hyperbolic was like the Schumacher clothesline, you know? Like it's obviously it's just happened. It's like if you say like you walk into sayay you we walk into the tesco outside there and then suddenly a werewolf comes out with it goes runs away again. Yeah and you're going like Did you just see that werewolf? Eone was like, n, what you you talking about? Yeah, would you like did It did and it bit you of milk. Now you're going to be werewolf, but'shing do about it and it's gone and you're like, where did the werewolf come from? You've lost me now. the biting part of it, I supp taking me on the idea that England failing To get a positive result. It hadn't even crossed anyone's mind that Ghana might get a positive result. I think people living on the adults, They think like the adults are, well they've not seen it. So obviously must be something that's probably an offs. I think genuine is people. It's because it was an offside and it was confusing and then the play carried on quickly. I think we sat here thinking the offside happened after the foul, but because there were two possible times when it could have happened I genuinely think because it was blown for offside, people just didn't then think about it afterwards As opposed to if it was a question, was this a foul or not, I think everyone would be saying what you're saying now. Yeah. I think a lot of people just assumed that the offside was for the first pass to Seno.'s not the one that it actually was, which was unfortunately also, it could have been a goal. I mean, that's the other part of it is that The garnet play, the garnet play unfortunately blocked teammate shot the line. I do Yes. so I do shot into Seno, which this will be Let it back to Ghian perspective Ghana with very good defensive againgst The' bad attack They open They're blocking each other shots play open player attackax has been a longstanding issue for Ghana for Iry the better part of five years. there They could really used that penalty O maybe one day I'll try and write a piece as to why Ghana has found as a nation has found it really hard to u sort of find their goals scoring successor to Asmojan Quite painful watching someone like Brian Ebeneza Boby play and score for the Netherlands like. for Ghana or indeed other I think Eddie and Ketia is is while we're talking still having conversations back and forth with the Ghania FA. really? Edd Keta might one day play for a Ghanian national team. I know he initially said he wanted to wait for England, but I think you might chang his mind there. That's not me confirming or anything rumbling in the corner for that's more than one worldld cup now. Yeah. So So much of Ghana's system relies on the Nascent potential threat of Semeno. Yeah in that he will very often be stationed past halfway line and he is very often where the ball is hit into Because Gya very rarely attack with more than one player, every time he gets the ball, he's like, well, I've got a beat. I basically have to score the goal of the tournament to get anything here. Yeah. So it's almost like a false counter attacking th and Aaki Williams had a similar thing there as well. Yeah ye. Avoidance of werewolves is key too as well to the You've got to avoid those werewolves also we've gott to go to an advertisement break now because I'm about fifteen minutes overdue, but producer Ryan's not here today. So what are you gonna do? Hey Okay, we're back from that break. That was good. That was a fun one. Now we're gonna to play a Rndo. Have you played a Rndo before Carl? In real life, yes. In real life. Okay, but what about on the Tifo football podcast? No. hereere's how the Rndo works. Let me tell you. Now the Rndo I give you a question that has multiple correct answers. We go round in a circle, we give correct answers. If you give me an incorrect answer, you are rejected from the Rndo. If you dither or dilly dally or take too long or if I don't like your attitude, I'll kick you from the Rndo myself The final person standing is named Rndo deel Ray, I know that's wrong. and today's category is as follows what I'm looking for Our players who are amongst the top twenty five players ever with the most England appearances, England caps, okay? So you just got to be in the top twenty five. We don't have to get in order. We just have to get a player from the JJ I'm going to start with you Can you start with someone else? I completely so't? It know I don't know where I was for the last ten seconds. That's weird. I'm just looking for players who have the twenty five in the top twenty five England national team appearances all time. We've played for England Okay. Not more than twenty five times all time. Top twenty five appearance. Way Rooney. Hey, what's a penalty? Yeah. Wayne Rooney's in there one hundred twenty appearances, Ka David Beckham. David Beckham is in their one hundred and fifteen appearances. Well done more than enough to be in by the way, Carl. Hryan Harry Kaine is, of course in their one hundred and sixteen appearances. JJ? Stephen Gerard. Stephen Gerard Yes, Stephen Gerard is there. Peter Shelton. Peter Shelton Is there one hundred and twenty five appearances? of course Back to youk. B more Bobby Mul, yeah, hundred eightight J Gary Liner. Gary Linaker is there with eighty on the lower end on the lower end, but he is there. Okay Ashley Cole. Ashley Cole, you got one hundred and seven. John Terry is there with seventy eight.ow. One of the lowest in his. In fact, is it possible that John Terry was the joint lowest. Oh wow. There's another player on seventy eight What's the lowest number we're looking for here? Seventy eight. seventy eight. o okay's some over seventy. seventy eight. There must be so many players. Yeah there's still over ten left. Harry McGuire. Harry McGuire is of course not one of those. Of course he's no.. Of course He is not. Kaya? Stephen Gerard. Yes. Stehven Gerard. That has already been said. Y. Do you not remember you said Th then I said Stephven Gerrard. Stephen Gerard. Yeah did. I mean even say someone else You even laughed at it. I know, I meant someone else name, but I can't say it because I don''t the answer. So Carl, you're the last person standing You need to get one I've done that. You need to get one more correct answer, Carl. othertherwise' wearing an Englland shirt Carl, you need to get one more correct answer to be named Rondoe Elray Oh Slim mus is pressure Um The good news is also, I forgot to tell you this at the beginning, but because it's your first Rndo, you get a debutant's Grace and you haven't used it yet. get it You still get Jordick. Jordan Pickford, of course, eighty six appearances. Well done Dell Ray. Now who's ready to hear who you could have had? Frank Lampard. Frank Lampard, of course you could have had Frank Lampard. No more shouting. No more shouting out now you remember? I don't like it when you shout out afterwards because the g the game's finished otherwise it just takes forever. This isn't a real game. It's a pretend game for a podcast You could have had Bobby Charlon, Brian Robinson, Gary Nevill, Joh Barnes, John Stones, Jordan Henderson, Kenny Sanson. you could have had. Karl Walker, Michael Loewen, Rahem Sterling, of course, Rahem Stterling. Ray Wilkins, Rha Ferdinand, Stuart Pearson, Billy Wright Wow. How about that? Billy's right with one hundreds six of appearces. Can I get an ID on Michael Owens's appearces, please? Michael Owen' appearance is eighty nine. That's woof Notar the bottom. Not the bottom Michael Owen. It's. It's not yet it basically stops in. two thousand six. Yeah. Yeahah, absolutely. And Boby Chelon and Billy Wright, the only players left with over one hundreds. I think did pretty well in terms of the major ones there But actually you did well, Carl, the other guys, the guys who've played this several times before Very bad. Genuinely angry at myself. Usually poor form. How long have we been going, by the way? feeleels like a long time Oh, theyre not so long. thirty minutes. That's about right. Okay, terrific. Now, where do we go next well? Portugal five. Nil Uzbekistan. This was in the dayayss early kickoff. Portugal in Houston, the venue apparently with the most goals scored at this World Cup so far, That's according to Sam Matterface. Well, I mean, and other people, but that's where we heard it. And there were even more goals today there were more goals today. Cristiano Ronaldo got his World Cup scoring started with a brace to become the first player to score in six men's World Cups. Nice to get a record there, you know That's a good nice record there. A lovely free kick from Nuna Mendes or Nuna Mend, as I believe the Portuguese would say. in fact, the Portuguese would say Non Men a nice own goal that I quite of enjoyed that. there' been many own goals haven't they any num? Ma Cox has written an excellent piece on the Riseone goals. It was in the response to The United States getting one against Australia and Cox's argument was We're seeing a lot of wingers Get to the by line and do that low cross that was so popular. Right If you watch a lot of Manchester City around about twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen p back across, which is causing a lot of defenders to inadvertently bungle it into inadvertent own goals. We'd recommend it. Love that. And then also a tasteful taking off the back of the net finisher from Rafa Lay out to make it funly lifted finish in there. Very good. One that just keeps rising, you know Yeah that sort of idea It's lovely when you attack it as the force set to go. If I just hit it this way, a defender will probably get their body across the blocket. so let me actually make some effort to ross Let me eat this. Also Kusinov looked a little bit sad at the end. I mean, Uzbeka son's chances of qualification are now looking incredibly, incredibly slim. Portugal qualifer of course, whether in second or first is still to be determined, a little hard to judge JJ, I would say from their performance due to the opposition in this game, but nice to see them score five goals Portugal are a good team and should do very well in the tournament. They have lovely players The manager seems to best he seems obsessed with making them as boring as he possibly can. right. But the players the players get through. ye, and then Ronaldoviously screams under the camera. I'm back, I'm back. Right. Yes, he did Where did he go? He did indeed do that. I mean, he what did you make of Ronaldo getting two goals in this game C? I think Pch were a lot better because they were a lot better at getting the best out of Rel Opinions may vary as to whether or not Krishana andol should still be the the leading man and the person they build the Portugal team around. But if you're going to haveving your team, you should throw in loads of crosses Yeah because And you should play Uzbekistan. You should play sling your loads of crosses and do it early because his movement in around the box perhaps isn't as good is S Senat for is now obviously is forty one years age There are times wherealdo is making runs. Because in his head he perhaps still think he's twenty six. Yeah. you're going, well, no, you need to Phaps maneuver yourself in a different way. But even at forty one, he remains exceptional in the air. So if you put those across in the a, you can attack his head. I think also that was what was useful today was Bernardasver didn't play Yes. and I think the hors shoe football that they played in their first That was exactly what I thoughtone. They moved it way quicker and that third goal was a really, really good goal because it's Bruno Feranz' on the transition, which We all know how good he is if you watch to Premi foot how good is in that transition. I think he's a lot better at Fernandez, I should say iss a lot better now at carrying the ball, possibly because of that Yeah or ten months he spent playing as a deeper middle in the Rub in Aameron. he's just a lot more confident doing that. The weight of the pass to get to Ronaldo was fantastic. And if Ronaldo's finish really, really good, again, one of those finishes were that that's why you've scored so many goals because so many other attackers if they're in that wide position Perhaps just go, let me get this on target but Ronaldo, the ball ends up pretty much bang inside. The far post and it's like, yeah, you manoeuver that shot or hit the ball in such a way that you went. I'm going to max absolutely maximize my chance of scoring. and if I'm going to miss it's because I'm going to hit the post rather than playing it safe. So really amazing finish that was veryer good third goal. Ronaldo seems happy. Also Ronaldo pointing to his head after Nuno Menez freakaking because the entire very much look if it wasbecist Star and everyone else at the home was going well, Ronald's going to shoot this probably hit the wall. So then for Mendez to shoot in a completely different way, you know, more of a traditional in stepping free kick I think caught everyone by surprise and probably helped scoring the goal. Hence where Ronaldo like pointed to his head. Very much so. I've got a cynical opinion about this, wouldould you like to hear it? Please. My cynical opinion about this game, Ronaldo's performance again, a wonderful finish for that goal that you were talking about there. I think actually a very good performance. The thing that my cynicism tells me though is that for Ronaldo's first goal He immediately runs over to the bench to celebrate with everyone, which to me makes me think, well, this is the Ronaldo PR machine in action here. This is Ronaldo responding to the criticism that he's an individual and messy as a team player, right? Everyone's criticized him a lot over the last week. A lot of people have said that perhaps the Portugal team would be better if he wasn't in it and that maybe he's too selfish a player, plays as an individual instead of as a team. So I thought his initial celebration running over to the bench to celebrate was to indicate to everyone, No, look, I'm a team player. I love my team and my team love me. And then as you say, the Nuno Mendees free kick goal Ronaldo taps his own head as though to either indicate they're like, oh, we tricked you out that tricks you there, as you said, or that was my idea. And look, I let my teammates take free kicks as well. JJ Kyer and I we were chatting about his terrible free kick record just as he was. So he showed us in that moment and then he made sure that we knew he showed us in that moment.ure. That's my cynism as it relates to him that he's still very concerned with how the outside world rates him. I think there are a couple of players at this World Cup that are very aware of their pub public slash online good So you can perhaps factor Christiana and Alva into this. It certainly seems to me that Kilin and Bappe has paid attention to all the memes depicting him as some sort of dictator or the actual president O France. So there was there wass that amazing little bit after the thunderstorm where Mba seems to be directing some of the cleaning stuff as to how to properly sweep thingsings and you're going, Well, he's definitelying the dictator memes The British Pimeinister available currently if he's interested There you go could be. Now Portugal, if they win the group, they would most likely be on the side of the draw with Argentina, with England. How do you having seen them today? how do you rate their chances against bigger teams U I mean, certainly better because it feels like a lot of the stress that was on them is gone. I still think So the view of the Ronaldo goals today, a lot of people were saying, Ha, told you so. you were wrong to criticiseize Ronaldo. can't believe they have ever doubted him. I In commentary, I think Ledixon even said if you are if you love football, you'd be happy to see that moment, which I thought was maybe a misunderstanding of what's going on here. but I still don't feel that Portugal are set up to state to get the best out of the best players. So England set up to get the best out of Harricane France, get the best out of Killin and Bape, Spain, Lamini Mo, Argentina, Car Exactly, very much Leona Messi. I think that Portugal's best player is Bruneo Fernandez.. I don't think they're set up to get the best out of him I think they're set up to get the best out of Christiano Ronaldo. I think there's a world in which it can work. I think the two can work really well together. I just don't haven't seen That much evidence of it. I know they had the assist today, but I don't think there's going to be too many times where Br sorry, when Christian Ronaldo is running in behind the defense. Yeah leaves that much space as Azbekistan did today I still think that up against bigger teams, they'll have issues and I still think that Ronaldo will not press against the bigger ses. I think that's a big problem. I don't think you can have off the ball passengers. A lot of people asking why isn't R Rafa Lo playing for Portugz because you can't have two passengers off the ball. It's just not possible So I think Portugal still have some fundamental flaws that haven't been answered by a win against a hand to win, but a win against an opposition who will great. Everything you said there, my brain iss going Portugal would have struggled against Ghana Yeahep ye It sounds of a low get. Except they have a striker like Ronaldo who can score the goal in the box. like that's what he brings Can Kain not do thatt can score the goal in the bar. He could if he wasn't always hanging out in the spot a circle there are going to be times in England games where two or some member of the coaching staff will have to tellar Ary againaine stop dropping beep and get the ball. Genuinely, but that's I get all the arguments with Ronaldo. I'm totally understand all of them. But the reason he's in there is because like your other options are that you play Netto is a false nine. we' talking this earlier. I've seen him do loads.'s he's not great at it. You play Leo. I just don't get it really. Iller Ramos, right R must forget but he misses chances like regularly. Yeah He drifts in and out in games all the time because that's what strikers do and Ronaldo is still like, you know, he's a phenomenal machine that's managed to get where he is and the movement for the goal, the first one, like he waits times it perfectly, gets in front of the defender and smashes a volleie. It's perfect technique. it's brilliant movement. It's everything you're supposed to do. he's like the ultimate robot striker. He does everything you're supposed to do because he knows to do it. and he doesn't come the difference is he's like the robotess like the artist genius Maverick which just comes to him Ronaldo does what the that we does. And if you're trying to get the ball into the box against teams who are defending with everyone around you That's how you score or you ping it from thirty yards and goes off someone goes in. you like I think that's the value he has. And that's why I think amongst other things leadership will get on the end of chances for Portugal in a way that Gonzala Ramos Raelao and Netto are not going to be able to do. Exactly. I guarantee he probably generates even though he's often out of games and and he's old and you know, whatever you think of him as a person or whatever, like he probably generates more than other players. The fascinating thing with Christian around is he's a footballer of bask term gravity. So ueniable attackking gravity in that If Christianaralo enters the final third and stands in an area no matter what team you are, what defend you are, whatever your defensive scheme is, you should probably pay attention to where he is and go All right, I'm going go pick Ronalo because he's Raldo. Now the really intriguing thing is Unlike a lot of strikers who enter that, post thirty post thirty five half life where they perhaps can't run as much. A lot more of those defenders will go, I'm going to go stand over here because it could create more space for other people. whereas Ronaldo will wander in those areas go I'm wandering here because I want to score Um Is it sensible for him to do that all the time? Your minds may vary. It didn't seem that effective in the very first game. It seemed very effective here against Uzbekistan. And the the Bruno Fernandz Ronal though interaction is a particularly interesting one in that Coverred United for basically nearly all of Fernandez is time at or Trafford. Fernandez has two major attacking passes. He basically tries many three balls out wide so to like a Marcus Rashford figure or a So many couldn't Gamriel Lbertan or yeah why nots rememember him Yes or to a wide player and he doesn't he plays those through balls way more than he plays the through ball ahead of him straight forward. Yeah because obviously so many teams want to play in the compact space. Yeah whereereas Ronald though Renald ideally wants to attack that left half space, but he's still a little bit more centralized than how Fernandez D wants to play the ball. and there's always been this sort of Friction's too heavy a word for it because I think these are two very intelligent players and they definitely know how to look out for each other in a way. There's tension Yeah, why not Gonalo Ramos is still a worse striker than Chrisarian Ronalo, but perhaps that worsness, more orthodox nature might be more favorable to how Fernandz wants to do. However, this is all a moot point because as you say, Portugal is always going to be built to get the most at Cristiano Ronaldo. Yeah. to get the best at Cristiano Ronaldo means they're going to have to swing in loads of crosses. if Rinaldo is going to score a lot of got. If Ronaldo' is going to break his knnockout goal World Cup duck. It will most likely be with a header because that's the thing he's still better at most than about. Definitely again Uzbekstan. Definitely again Uzbekan. Well, listen so far, the North American Worldup has been theorup of stars, hasn't it? of individual stars as evidenced in the games yesterday as well, that happened after we'd all gone home. France three N Iraq, France securing their place in the round of thirty two in the first game to feature a lightning delay in the the lightning delays, but it's a funny term. Itounds like something I should' not glladi is. It feels like an oxy Mor on. It it's quite quick. Well, as I said, Kilinian Bae scored sixteen World Cup goals now in sixteen World Cup games's pretty incredible. But also Norway beating the Senegal three two, Norway also confirming their progress through to the group stage. It's setting up a fascinating final game in that group between the two of them. That's on Friday. And Erlling Holland has now scored four goals in just two World Cup games. So who the hell knows which of those is better? It' B's better.s like for France. Hreand said it himself in his postmatch. was about said what you think about ing Frz.'ll probably be us because they're probably going to w the tournament, which I really like H. I love that guy. He plays his role. so funny ery well for ninety minutes. you can dislike him for ninety minutes when he's up against your team but everything else's like, you're probably quite sound and really funny. There was a really good TikTok I saw the other day where they just went through all of his designer Hermae bags and you're going, this is a manatter of supreme taste as well. Um France team, you say it's built to get the best out of Kidombapa? Yeah Tell me more Well, I think if you look at the way Michael Ellisa, for example, was moved In the second half against Senegal where they moved in more centrals to try and play those three balls quicker to Mbapee who's got lightning pace and once he gets away from you, there's no chance of catching him. That to me strikes me as a team who are built to try and get the best out of a forward who wants to run in behind You look at the sacrifices Uman Dembelle who is a Ballandor winner Riny Ballandor winner correct. Yeah. lookook at the sacrifices he's making to again get the best out of Killian and Bappay in that team. There's Ruer takes a bit of a backseat. I feel as though the way they play, the way they try and get the ball forward so quickly and not do the wholeorsehoe of death and the slow football we saw England doing tonight That to me strikes me as a team who's trying to get the best out of a striker who is probably one of the best in the world. I read that more as when they moved Lisa in and put D Blly out to the wide area it made them much better defensively because they were covered in the wide areas because the Belly's much better than that. And because they have those fast lads, it makes sense to play those fast things all the time. I think you're probably right there's a certain element of playing towards Babai, but I think it genuinely is because all the players suit playing in that way because they're all swapping around liketing Bapppy drift to them out and billy runners in, but definitely when theyre playing off ball bly going to the right side Andllic going inside. Maybe it's actually to get Elici on the ball. I I think I think maybe he's this focus part. I think Elise is the spice that makes the sauce. Yeah. I think the transformation in the first half, the second half against Senegal, the first half against Senegal All France's players want to come short to defeat. words you want them to want one of them to run in behind is fascinating very clearly would be like five to fifty percent better football bin off. his affinity to the ball a little bit more thoughtought a little bit more like Cristian Ronaldo, instead of viewing himself more as like this centralized play making hub. I think he'd score you more goals And Eise say The leastays chemistry of Baday is fascinating to me. So the goal the goal they get were in Bpe sort of Almost a nutug but he gets blocked and loous sort of scampers over passasses the ball back to him. before him backes Oh cheersate and then opens his body up Get that cold finish Those who understand each other loaths and if France do win the tournament, in Battle would probably win the awards But I think this will be one where four or five years later we'll be sat down going, It's actually Eisa in If you I like it In certain circles. I like you remember the one I always make is if Euro twenty sixteen, Christianala wins Portugal's First it International trophy, but Nanny was phenomenal that time Yeah rightight. and him doing some of the dog work on both sides of b all allowed Renal Lo to focus on great.anist The scoring The streets don't forget Nanny, do they They do not particularly not in Portugal. Now listen, Jordan won to Algeria, also a quick shout for Algeria who beat Jordan to go level on points with Austria, that's setting up another fascinating face off in the finalroup group game there for a place in the round of thirty two. As it stands, Algeria A are could be one of the best third place teams, but who knows what will happen old I worry about Alja' goalkeep. Do you? That's a very niche worry. had two very shaky performances. and earlier today I saw a little segment from Joe Hart, where Joe Hart appined that there might be something off with this world cup ball He said the ball is not spinning or curling in the way that you'd expect with shots above shoulder height There is like another layer to this theory like this might have something to do with the sensor in the ESball. So the sensor was centralized for the last World Cup But this time it's more to the internal wall and therefore there's been counterweights on the other side of the wall, which is now I'm not a physician, but this might affect the way the ball spins We need a greater sample size for this. This is me wink wink ninety ninetyifo and the athletic to give me three or four of these high class balls to go in the park with Liam Farm to test it. So we'll see that. But yes, look, he's the son of Zedan Zians are down very disappointed with our Jurious performance in their first game And there have been two or three times of one v ones where Allderia's goalkeeper just sort of Finches away from the ball at a crucial moments. So if I do it hard to get something They were very disappoint in the first house. They need the goalkeeper to rise imate level of the outfields ahead of him. You certainly never want to disappoint SZedan. No, you do not. Asolutely. piece of act there. Jordan, unfortunately, have just come undone because Yeah, Shamee Garner could defend their set say. Good lord. Anyway, listen, let's have a quick advert break and when we come back, we'll wrap things up with a little bit of points ofad and the second handand eBay game Okay, we're back now a quick sojourn over to points about Now there are six games tomorrow That's on Wednesday. We're actually not here tomorrow on Wednesday because there's six games so we've just gone ah screw. We're not coming in. Scotland versus Brazil. That's right. Well And Scotland versus Brazil is on at what time? eleven. It's on eleven. So I think that would have been the watch along game and it's a bit too late for us. So instead we'll be back on on Thursday. But there are many gam stars. we're not going to go through all of them because that will just take absolutely forever. I will put point you though, JJ towards your prediction for Scotland, Brazil. You have rather confidently predicted a two one victory too I think I've underpled that a little bit to Scotland. Sotland ye Yeah. how about that? Couldn't be a couple more depending on who they put in the midfield, but it could be three or four one. Could be. How about that? Tell me more about this because the Brail's midfield I'm doing a bit, Carl. I want to know more. No you know, I genuinely think from watching Brazil in the first game against Morocco and from watching Scotland in their first game, despite thinking Scotland were just terrible in their first game, I do think they're exactly the kind of team that could get a draw or maybe you know snatch a win in a kind of Ghana style way Yeah or in way that g Ill against Brazil. Preface this by saying I had a feeling about the Germany game in the Euros when we got absolutely done I do have many feelings though I would say ninety nine point nine percent of them don't come true. No much it's got the feeling Lower percent than that. I think there's just something about this. In my head what happens is we genuinely either draw or beat Brazil Yeah And then we played Mexico in the next round. This is what I thought was going to happen from the very start of the thing. I played Haiti almost exactly how I thought we would do. I'd like to seen a bit more. Morocco, like that's the most extreme version of Sufferball you've ever seen. But if they hadn't scored in the first minute, could quite easily got a point. and also drram again got fell in the box. So like it could have been the penalty, could have been like whatever. could have been these things, wasn't right? We got lucky with him suffering against Haiti But there's something with that Brazil midfield And also they're through, do you know, they don't need I think I think you get I think you get a draw. I mean, it would be I can't, I mean, the absolute scenes. I can't tell you like being in Boston, like It's so fun. that everyone there is having the best time ever. If we were to not be awful at football at the same time. I don't know what would happen But they' Yeah, Are you going to be watching this at home? I'm going to be in Glasgow. I'm watching in the garage and planingning a show just before it. It's going to be ull of full of people like six hundred people is tremendous. It's going to go off. Well elsewhere in points of bad. I want to point our direction towards the Czech Republic versus Mexico Kaya, you've gone for two one to to check here in that in that Yeah. I think Mexico going to do a lot of changes because they've won the group and I think they've already toppped the group So Czech Republic need to win that game. to have a chance of going through. They're only on one point so far. Got it. If they get four points, they're basically through if not certainly through. So yeah, I expect them to G go through that a bit more and expect Mexico to yeah rotate and Maybe justs rest few n but but homeomeworld up and all who knows some of those Anthing can happen? Absolutely. Well, we've all gone for South Korea to be South Africa from various different scores. We've all done the same with Morocco and Haiti. There's a little bit of uncertainty around the Switzerland Canada game. We're split there. I've gone for a two one win to Switzerland. John's gone for two all JJ you've gone one knal to Canada. Kaa has gone one knal to Switzerland. So I think we're totally split on that game. But Canada Again, a good example of a team who were totally awful in their first game and they're very, very good in their second game. Who knows what's going to happen? home home home tour same with their Switzerland actually similarly bad in their in their first game and then pretty good in their second Yeah, I don't know I f Switzerland were okay actually in their first game. they just weren't clinical at all. Right. I didn't watch it. I'm just saying Yeah play. I think in their second game, they found their clinical edge in the last fifteen minutes. I expect them to have enough to overpower Canada who are now missing a really important player because Kon they got a really nasty injury in the last game. Okay. Okay. well now listen, the moment that everybody's been waiting for, it's time to play The second handand challenge. Yeah, the second handand eBay challenge. So bad music here. you sing it Sehand challenge. There it is. Okaykay, now what do we do? It's aroundound four of the second handand challenge. Heres the second handand challenge works, Carl, okay. What we've done is we've given JJ and John differentifferent amounts of money each time And they've gone away and looked on eBay to find cool football memorabilia that fits different categories. So already in the first week we had the bargain round, where they had under twenty pounds each. We've got the cult herero round, thirty pounds. Yesterday was the international Inident round, where there was some controversy over JJ's Nelson Mandela tie. JJ did say that there was pictures of Nelson Mandela on the tie There is not pictures. I ha't seen the tie I' seen the t. V they hadn't seen the tie. a picture of it. Now one thing I will say though is there have been comments in the TFA football discord because John JJ unfortunately didn't win as adjudicated by Musurquwanga on the basis that there was some misinformation in his description of the tie. However We all looked at John MackKenzie's two thousand two World Cup watch, which says it's a two thousand two World Cup watch As it turns out, it's a two thousand six Oh worldld cup watchatch. And I just cannot I cannot stand by and say that a similar amount of disinformation thatost lost to the point, JJ can stand for a victory. So it's going to be scrubbed from the record. No one won, No one won the international incident round. there was a huge incident during the international incident round. zero winers. So it's still only two Nils to John he's won all them so far. And in fact, if you look at the top of the shelves over there, unhelfully the viewers can't see that, but there's a Manchester United chess set. That's what John got for twenty pounds. We love that one. Now today it's round four thoughtful gift giver. Very good. This is the weirder the better round. The weirder the better. You both had sixty pounds each to spend and there were no rules beyond the fact that the stranger the item, the better. Now JJ I would you like to go first or would you like to see what John's got? I think go John first. Okay. Now John's not here obviously, so Ka It is both able to show us on he's awkwardly grabbing his microphone. He's going to show us what John has bought for sixty pounds. and as a reminder, this is the weirder, the better round. Sohould I read what John sent me to read first? What' not post? I think you need to decide, but then also whatever it is, remember it's an audio podcast as well. I kind of describe what you're saying the So this I mean, to be honest, it looks like a blind for a window. It does look like a blind doesn' it J Proucers Jamie and I spent about, I think fifteen minutes trying to unwrap it outside. There was so much bubble wrap on it. Great.
