Crystal Palace Win the FA Cup! — May 18, 2025 — starts at 0:00
Hey everyone, welcome to Right's House. Hope you're all safe and well. Today we can only talk about one thing, and it's Crystal Palace winning the FA Cup. Finally, their first major trophy in their history. And my guests are Bayola Quadry. And Ryan Hart. Well, South London. South London did it. You know what? It was such a magnificent You know the Palace fans. You were there, right? So yeah, yeah, yeah. I was there yesterday. It was brilliant. Because you know, that's my last FA Cup final, probably because obviously, you know the I T V now no longer doing the FA Cup. Yeah. It's going on T and T, which is a whole nother story in respect of Putting the FA cut behind a payable. Wow. Gee like BBC have got some games, but BBC have got no choice of the games they get. So Like when I was younger everybody the FA Cup is still and will always be. greatest football match in the world to me. Obviously the World Cup once I got is is is way up there, but the FA Cup what I saw so frequently. Exactly, bro. And so Again. You know, for that to happen. is a an absolute tragedy for youngsters who should be watching it on terrestrial TV, but like honestly the the the the Palace fans brilliant for the palace fans. I saw a brilliant thing on um Brilliant little theme on on Instagram where They were asking Palace fans before the game Question of Would you take winning the cup? Today. And never ever being able to watch Palace again. What w what w and and what would you do? And literally to a to a fan, everyone was saying we're we'd win it today. To have that major trophy. and know that what we've witnessed before You know I mean, we we now we've seen ourselves win a major trophy. Uh this this means something to you, man. I know we're gonna go for the game and For me, there's so many players with so many different stories, but You're saying that about the fans, the player sentiment. It's so much as well, like Real Hughes. After the game. Lish um said. For someone like me, a player who's not expected to win anything in their career. Can't tell you how much this means. And it puts something into spectrum, right? All of these guys are professionals. And this guy is saying, listen. Even though I've accomplished my dream of being a pro. I know it's very unlikely that I'm gonna win some. Can I manage to do that for this card? Also he was on the he was on the pitch in the six nil, wasn't he? Against Watford. He was. Yes, he was he was. You know, but like um you're you're pleased with um you know what Steve Parrish Yes. You know, like he came on for a little bit and But like when you listen to Steve Parrish in um in the interview what we had um in the show. Um it was brilliant. It was brilliant. And you could just feel The love and the warmth and the Dedication. And everything that that that he that he feels for that club come out into in that video. When he's talking about he came in Um And the club was literally there were at at Liquidation's door. You know, a he's a proper owner. He properly loves the club. He really wants the club to be successful. And the work he's done from that day to where Palace are today, when he got the cup and went to the fans. They erupted, and rightly so. Because that man is so He's he is Crystal Palace. It means the world to him. So for people like him, to see him have that moment, lift it. And you know, with the academy and everything, what he's started because he's recognised how important it is to make sure that we corral the South London talent and they're not going all over the country when they come from South London and Crystal Palace is right there. They owe it to that that that that county. They owe it to that city. Owe it to that borough, I should say. to make sure that they have an academy that can produce people because what that meant for South London yesterday. was magnificent. The thing that's gonna be amazing about this FA Cup win for Palace is that it maybe puts them in people's view. A little more. I'm sorry. I feel like so for example, not wanting to kind of I know Moose and I always do this, I bear with me. Later today Moose and I go into Union Berlin for something. They're known as like a Keats Club, they call it here. So it's like a neighborhood club. Same as St. Pauli. It's a literal neighborhood St. Pauli. And it's called a Keats Club. And I feel like in England we have a lot of city clubs, but because London is so dense and so densely populated and so big and it has so many clubs, I feel like It's very easy for the fandom of the clubs to spread all over the place. Is as close to a Keats Club. In that kind of identity. that you're gonna get, I think, in the Premier League. Genuinely. Yeah, I think so. Yeah. It's a good shit. I think I think personally a lot of people will look at the 'cause a lot of people I think get sw turned off a little bit with some of the Premier League stuff and you know, it's not like Palace are fully, fully fully quote unquote against modern football. I think a lot of international fans will have watched that final, seen the fans, seen the T fo, seen the flares, seen how more organic that felt. And also We'll now go and read up on the identity of palace and the history of palace. And I think it could I think it could really position them into like a a a global Um kind of almost like cult club status. Yeah. I I agree. And I think it works twofold as well, into that sort of global perception. I mean this is a club that is somewhat visible as well because of You know, the famous show. Of course. We all saw the stadium in there, so people have that affinity to it. But I think what's also um really interesting is you mentioned about how it's gonna be an awakening. This is a club, right? If you really look at their players and how Dougie Freeman before he left was recruiting and what they built there. built something special where the likes of Elise are going straight to Bayern as it's been tied with top six clubs for so long. They've now won. A trophy. They're now going to play European football. They have arguably one of the greatest catchment areas in the UK for young talent. In the world, in the world and also They've always been Everyone's like second club bar. I love Palace. I felt the full affinity to it. Yesterday. for me felt like the awakening to see that clip of Glasner saying Tally pet. You can't play like this. And to beat them in a final. Palace are not everyone's second flavour anymore. They are now their own things standing up amongst it and it's super excited. You know the thing with the only thing now Is that what you want to see? Obviously Managers sign up. 'Cause I'm not sure if that's done yet. You wanna make sure that now that you've got European football and you have won a major trophy and you know that you can do it, you've got Quality players in there. You now have to hold on to those players. Play this Europe next season, see how you do, see what you add to the the squad. And that surely is how you start to Make your move. In respect of going up. to the next level simply because of the players they have. And the fact that You are in London and you can still attract Player. Come to to Crystal Palace because Crystal Palace are doing something now. And I think that's what that might have announced as well yesterday, that they're ready to go. So next season's gonna be massive. In respect of how they capitalize. On this. on this on on this win, on this this this stage of their their history simply because I think it could be the moment like you say, Mayor where they wake up And then SA doesn't leave. Walton, who's everybody's caught in at the moment doesn't leave. Mark Gay doesn't leave. You know what I mean? You're bringing in players like Munoz. Who again was like energy in this in this breader. Unbelievable. You bring in those players. Now you will start to be able to attract those players because at some stage, if we're going to be totally honest, if they can continue to move, yes, you'll still probably get some of your gems. out simply because That's always gonna happen. But the main thing is it can you keep them together long enough? So as they can actually see, what what can we do? Can we do a forest? Can we can we have that kind of season? Can we do a villa? You know, even though they've got the history of doing it. Can we can you start being that club now? I think the palace are on the road to that. Before we go too big picture, should we chat a bit about about the game itself game. Absolutely Such a curious Like This pops up every now and again with clubs like Man City, right? As dominant as they are. And as much as they create. you kind of feel like it's not gonna be it. It's funny, it's like it always feels like it it goes that way. 'Cause it didn't feel like they would like digging in and like really, really, really like fellas lived their raps. As M said the n if you play if you dare If you dare bring this system, Pep. I'm gonna show you something and you could see like the pressure at the beginning, I thought, oh my word. 'Cause even like with Cities Lineup, it's the first time my Moosh, KD B, Harlem playing together, I thought all he's brought out the shiny toys, it's gonna be a Swan song and His just like it's fine. We're used to this. We like defending. Chris Richards headed everything away. We've got five at the back for a reason. Yeah. And that first breakaway you said about Minos. Oh my word. I've not seen like a wing back performance like that since. Venezuela the at the Euros. But you're just flying and no one can do anything with you. Oh yeah, it was they they they Literally and they I think Palace knew that. Whatever city are gonna throw at us today. We have enough and when we get our chance. We will take There's a slight you know discussion about a penalty save as well, which obviously has to go to your side as well, but oh, what a performance by Palace. Well it was as as w when you're watching it, you can see We know exactly how this is gonna set up, like you said there, Miyo. They're gonna play with a five at the back. Um they're gonna defend like their lives depend on it. And they did. And then when they break, they're gonna try and be as efficient as they can. And that's what we saw with especially with the first goal. You know, so that instantly makes you believe Well bring anything you've got 'cause we could take your Your hardest punch at the moment, which is if we're gonna be totally honest with City It's very slow. It's very labored. You actually get time. I wouldn't say make mistakes, but you actually get time to get yourself in a position without having to feel like you have to do it with urgency because they're so slow in the build up. And waiting to try and get into the spaces where now with Palace with the five at the back. They can't go into those little gaps where they plu pass it in between. The full back and the centre half. So they've blocked that all off and then City It just looked Toothless. They did, but they also created quite a lot of chances. Mm-hmm. There were a couple of chances that City I think should have done a lot better with. Yeah. And we know that. And I think that the this is why as much as it will infuriate City fans, the Henderson red not red. You could say, Well, how can you say it didn't really matter that much because he was so influential for the rest of the game, but I still I still think City had enough to put two or three pass Palace. They did, and and then wasn't even the uh one of those great. I don't think they were worldies. I think they were like there was there was just some I don't I think there was some finishing that wasn't unbelievable. But I mean should we talk about the SA Gold first. Oh SA my boy even though it wasn't the cleanest finish. It was a ball that's a hymn finish. That's a hymn finish. That's a hymn finish because the ball came in at such pace. You know, if you get good contact with it, it it didn't come off of his his boots. Yeah. Yeah. So You know, but the the ball in makes you have to deal with that. So if you get a good contact on it, it goes in because the ball's coming in with such pace. It's just I've got a question for you right though, like as a forward player. You know when you carry out certain passages of play in training? How does it feel when they come alive in moments like that because as a goal was a replica of the goal in the semi final. It's a goal that we've done many times this season where it's play at the back, get to Mateta out wide, cut him, bang. It's it's like a beautiful swim to it. You know, all you y you know, because what happens is you do shadow play and you see You see actually see teams on the picture now. Doing shadow play before the match, what they're gonna do, what they do to make sure you get your muscle memory right. So once you see It starts happen so. Obviously Muny's because oh was it um O'Reilly was t he's too narrow. So Munoz, once that ball goes over that midfield, Munoz is gone. Right, 'cause he says right. Mateta will hold this. He will link and then I'm I'm in free because obviously our rise. So that you as a forward You can see it happening. So then all you say is right, I've got to get in now. So I've got to get in because this is going to come in and he's and he's not going to be looking who he's putting it into, and he's going to probably put it in with pace. So all you're thinking about going in there is. Contact. Let me get the good contact because this is what we practice. So all I need to do is make sure I get my good contact and get it on target. once you see the play building, you just that's all you're thinking about in your head. That's what I'll what I'd be thinking about if I was a striker. 'cause we've d all the work that we've worked on, it's up to me to make sure that it goes in the net. So Coming off of his Is his shin shows that his body is ready to his body's ready. He's not leaning back. He's he's ready to go bam and and just like side foot it in the goal. It's like when I watched it, I thought that is just so beautifully constructed. And because he's got such ability. can get it off if he's like near his calf and it still goes in on the shit. Because he's his his body's in the right is in the right like position to to tap that in. It's it's brilliant goal. Yeah. I'm here. I deserve to be here. I know how good I am. But he's scoring all those big games, right? All the big games leading up. He's been the main the main focal part of me. We wouldn't say that it was Ezra's greatest game, but he was the difference. He he finished the goal. And what was great about it again is that it actually felt like when I was younger, like Final where it's the big guy versus the little guy who's coming up. You could feel a different energy rather than and I'm not being disrespectful to Chelsea or City or Liverpool or Arsenal or anybody. But it just felt like yeah, but these two are here all the time. That's not disrespectful, it's just a fact. It's a fact. It was it really was Yeah, it felt different. It f it felt like it felt like you listen to like you say what Like what Will you said. about like you know what it means for him to win it. A player like him. He didn't expect to win anything. And this is what Teams like Palace and Brighton and Brentford. All those things Bournemouth should be aiming for. players aiming to say, Well, yes, I can do it. And I think Palace showed that yesterday. And that's why it felt so good, because it felt like just the underdog doing it, but an underdog that I'm moving in the right direction have done it. And that's what's good. It changes the whole mindset of the player now. What I wanted to flag as well is, um you mentioned like as a having that moment and I feel like it's important for players to have moments but then to then be sort of translated into an outcome and I think with Palace. He said in the interview as well, he said, We've been here three times. And Punching gave a really good interview in the lead up to this, saying that people still remember him for his performance. Against United. You mentioned about doing a broadcast for this game and honestly, like I've seen those goals that you scored before, but I was so moved. Brace you scored. People become cult heroes for their efforts of these sort of clubs, right? For Ezre to now have this moment where I'm not here to have conversation about whether he's a bigger legend and this and that. He had his moment. This is a player that went through so much rejection. now get to a place where you're at the pinnacle and you've done it. Is is beautiful, but Dean Henderson as well, man. Of course. The situation's a situation, right? But to have that sort of performance. Wembley. It's a game winning performance, isn't it? It's a game winning performance. That's the performance that puts you in cult status for forever. But then we do have to talk about the fa the fact, Ryora. Yeah. I'm watching that and I'm thinking again P GM I Wress that up with the words what they say It wasn't Stopping a direct opportunity on goal. Which is ludicrous. ludicrous he's out of it they' saying yeah his feet was in the box and he's he's hands outside the box and he's he's moved away from the striker. Joe this is this is funny though, like because because I I've talked about this a few times about how I feel like the rule should be This is nothing to do with this game, by the way, but I feel like the rule should actually be if your feet are in the box, you can handle it whatever wherever it's. No, it's like in the NBA, right? As long as your feet are in the bounds and like you can jump out of bounds and like hook it back in as long as your feet are in. Right, the the thing with that is is then with the with the offside and justified it, by the way. No, no, of course not. But like what I could say to that is it's like Arson Venger trying to bring back the if your feet are on side but your shoulder rock so you're bending your run, you're still on side. It's like You're offside if you do that now. So if you've got your feet in the box and you handle it outside the box, you're outside the box. My issue is it's like It's a it's a terrible decision. Yeah, it's delightful. It's a really bad decision. It's a really bad decision and Zach. There's no point having CC TV if we're not gonna catch any thieves. Like what's the point of having surveillance if we're not gonna use it. Sorry, but we are going to think he was gonna go to that. I hear it. What's the point of having surveillance cameras if you're gonna look at them and go That's okay. Uh it's okay. That's exactly what That's what VAR is. I'm gonna say at some stage on one of my broadcasts, Mayoa. Cause I'm in the building with them as well. Don't use this as a workshopping thing. No, I'm workshopping. This is workshopping. I'm gonna say, what's it called? You know, you've got people upstairs. It's like having CC TV, but you let the thieves just get away. I'm gonna say it, bro. They reviewed it. They reviewed it and thought No man it's cool. It's only taken on all your pup, it's not a TV just for most to be so sorry, can I so with stuff like this, right? Mm When stuff when something like this so glaringly obvious doesn't go the way you expect it it's gonna go. I'm I try and think like Yeah, I try and Be the VAR. You know, like try and put myself in that room. Why am I not a war like uh making this decision? Only thing I can think of. Was that they They felt like it wasn't quote unquote deliberate outside the box. And the reason I know no I know I know I know I know and I'm I I think he should have gone. Right, but I'm like The only thing I imagine so you remember didn't Ramsdale do one a few weeks ago, but he was outside the box, he was on his knees and the ball was on the floor. So he was looking at the line and he was looking at the ball. Henson gets himself in a mess. And you can, I think he's like, I don't know if I'm outside or not. I'm just gonna boom like that. But it was g I think it was the height of it. And the kind of indecision is the only thing that must have like it must be the only thing that saved it. I don't think it is either. But I'm like that must be the only thing they were thinking of. But I think the height of the ball, it makes it even more incriminating because we're talking about City being slow. Ball is the one thing that really works there. Highland's going through on goal. You know what time it is. And ultimately when the keeper usually goes at that. The way he's punched it is kind of like I don't wanna Whack into Highland. So it's kind of like, oh, I've got to do something. And he just kind of like parried it. Parry it away. If you didn't parry it away and you went into Ireland, it's a foul and it's a red card because you've gone through. Yeah. And ultimately, you're so far away from your goal. That you're so far away. It should have just like headed it. Like just for forgetting right. Yeah, but that I he he obviously lost his his position where he was. Yeah, because even him 'Cause if he Harlan's coming too quick, right, if he goes to head that we're looking at a probably a really quite a dangerous situation. Do you remember when Sanchez had it with um Harland the other against Chelsea, where he came out and was like oh And then he had to leave it and then obviously Harland does what he does. It's weird that It's so funny because in the pre match Harland spoke about speaking to Steve Warnock, right, and saying that sometimes you need to just kick it long. And that's the only thing that seems to be working for C at the moment. Get this guy running behind, but that's conversation for another day. Anderson should have been gone. Yeah, I think so too. I mean just to just to just just for anyone who is in any kind of doubt, I think you should have gone. I'm just like there must be something here that I'm missing because this decision is so. Yeah, but right. You're right to you're right to say it, Ryan, because it wasn't given. So whether It's what you think um you what they might have been thinking about, or what it doesn't make no difference 'cause they thought something. 'Cause they didn't think they thought something. So it's you know what I mean? So it's not like oh you're you you're just stating some facts there about somebody had a different view on it, which is Crazy view. Even the penalty. Right. Right, yeah. So the penalty. Let's move on to the penalty then. We should and the thing is with with the penalty, first I would say Sarique Mitchell to make that challenge was a really poor challenge. Because it it didn't need to do it. You know what I mean? But like again, you get wrapped up in it. You know what I mean? You get wrapped up in it. I thought he was doing well with the um W with the his winger in respect of his defenses. So I I thought he got too close. There was a man behind him. Best thing you can do there. is not tackle, try to tackle and get the ball, but go to block it. Block the cross. So instead of you going to tackle him w trying to move the ball from him, you go a yard this way and so you block it. I could not understand as a defender. Why he made the challenge and like people saying blood. Massive the grape just it just Richard just wrote adrenaline. Adrenaline because like it's exactly what it was because the touch on the ball was was very small. It's it's minute, you couldn't see. But at the same time You know? Just on the challenge, y you you could see why, yeah, I could see where he's giving that. But if you see the touch and as small as it might be And he's touched the ball. I've got to be right. Mm-hmm. So after that. Cup fan or are you giving the ball away for a penny? Say again? Like you made Mike Harlan. But you giving away. Bro, y you know the thing is, is that um when I was playing Would you be giving no giving that to nobody. And I think we're talking about Erlen Harland. You know what I mean? You're talking about your so that's your go to guy. How many golden boots this man is scoring goals even when he's sleeping and they count. Why are you not taking that pen? I know you've missed a couple, so what? You should be taking that penalty. You're the number nine. You're the main guy to say, right, let me take this penalty, get this game going, get us back in the game, and bam. Did not fancy my moush. And it's the same with um Jolene Lesc. Jolyn Lescott said, You know something, I'm just not I'm not sure. Not sure. It wasn't a moment for him. Yeah, it was a massive moment for him because like especially he's coming to the he's coming to this season. halfway through he's come from a transitional side to a very possessional heavy side. And you know, he's and he's done okay, he's adapted okay. You can it's interesting to see how he's gonna get on next season. But I just think with everything that's going on I just don't think that he was the one that should have taken the penalty. It should have been Harland had taken that penny. For the seasons he for the seasons he's he's had in respect to coming in. It's pretty good in January. It's been fantastic. Tinge with that. Gonna have to think about that. What? city would have looked like without him coming in. 'Cause I think he kind of gave them like a little sprink of life. I think they would have been in big trouble, but I also feel like This moment I mean, for the rest of the game it was just more of the city onslaught, didn't manage to get through K D B. was show him why he is KDB, but ultimately he was then also showing why he was playing like Ryan Shorecrest at some point 'cause he's just having to get stuck in 'cause that midfield battle was so difficult for him, right? That penalty save, I think coming off the back of like that ten minutes. So you had like Henderson's the Henderson decision. Yeah and then the penalty save. That felt to me Like it switched City's mentality a little bit, which we'll probably talk about in a bit. But that that was a big moment. Speaking of big moments, we talk a lot about really big moments in football, but you know what? Actually, sometimes a little support can go a long way, which is what is so cool about Cabry game changing wins, an initiative That highlights the small acts. that have the power to make big difference to players. Grab the hob knobs today and make it a McVitties moment. After the penalty save, Mio, you were talking about how um it kind of looked like Man City realise they might be in more of a fight than they thought they would be. Yeah. You know something, can I just say quickly, Right? It's the worst thing that could ever happen to you, I think, even in in a final. W especially when you're trying to get back in the game and you is Your goalie saves it because it's almost like you scoring. It's so it's it's deflating because then you're thinking, Okay, we're gonna get back in the game. Bam. The goalie saves it and you feel even worse than you did before. It's like watching Liverpool in eighty eight with Wimbledon. You know what I mean? It was like that. But then then all of a sudden we wouldn't get it. Yeah. We wouldn't get another an another like another another win than go, Miyowa. It's it's a culmination of things. He shouldn't be here. Mm-hmm. It makes a penalty save. The person that should have taken it for us hasn't taken it. Everything everything we've tried to do so far hasn't worked. Hasn't worked, bro. Dude it's like when you it's like when you're watching a movie and something happens at the beginning, you're like, that's important. I don't know why. We're gonna come back to that. Yeah. It's like, you know, I mean that old school Mickey Mask thing and it's like we'll need this tool for later. But you know what? It puts your like you you look at the Man City players and as good as they were, you know, Doku, it seemed like Doku came on and he he tried. He he tried, you know what I mean? And again, you like you say, right, I did make some chances. Ken. You have to go to the fact that Palace's defensive work yesterday was elite and it had to be. I remember Roy Keane at the start of the game he started the game said they they're gonna have to defend well and the goalkeeper's gonna have to have a great game. You win these games. It's when when your goalkeeper has a great game. Yeah, go on. Yeah. I find it interesting, 'cause football is a very simple game, right? And I think Often in a modern game things are Complicated. We have all of these like complexities and you know the matrix and all these things happening. But what you just said right now just really stuck out to me because Football. What I saying The keeper's gonna have to be very good. And the defense is gonna have to be solid. That's what every single football game should be. It's just it's just the basics. It's the four goalkeeper is good. It's the four square peg. Then wh wh Roy's Roy's argument would be You have to play well in these big games. Yeah. That's what it will come down to, but the simplicity of it is exactly that. And that goalkeeper had arguably you have to say He had the game of his career yesterday. He was very fortunate to be on there, but he had the game of his career. 'Cause he he he contributes. majorly for to t to Palace winning that. And he did it while wearing a cap, which is just throwing it way back. The FA Cup final? This is now this is the magic of the cut. I'll tell I'll tell you how long I haven't seen a cat for 'cause my miss my wife He texted me and says, he's got a cap on. I've no basis or anything on this, but in just like bias in my head. Southampton goalkeepers. Always wear wearers. They wear caps. big moment for him. I think what I loved about this game as well is you think about Mark Gahey, you know. Being a captain at a young age, winning, great story. As a, you know, all of those rejections winning. Um, you've got people at Will Who's that you've mentioned right at the beginning, was in that six nil loss. Win in. Joe Ward. He's leaving the game, getting that moment to lift the great captains that are lifting. at Wembley putting your name amongst that as well. Dean Henderson's an animals of gay he as well to let you have that as well. Honestly and I don't expect I don't expect anything different from him. I think he gets it, he understands it. You got two you got two South London boys on that team, Eddie and Ketia, Gay. They they're local. They understand it. Eze as well, actually. They they understand it. Um, even Mitchell, we had that mistake. He's he's from Brent. Yeah. He grow up seeing stadium, so to be to play on your turf and have You know, a moment to win. It's it's beautiful, man. It's a first major trophy. And you know what? We're speaking a lot, but you've got to give up to the manager as well, man. Yeah, man, man's coming. Uh can I just read you some quotes from Ollie Glasnow? Miguel Delaney was there, he wrote he was in the press conference. Mm. Glasner said, I told the players after the game I get a feeling for a group of players and I've got this feeling through the season that we can achieve incredible things. We have great characters. You need this to achieve a pot to achieve a pot impossible things. And he said the biggest success we can have is not Winning the trophy. that is we could give thousands of our fans a moment for their lives. Mm. We can give them great times. Maybe they have some problems. We give them hours and days. They can forget all of this, just being happy. This is the biggest achievement sportsmen can do. And we did it for many, many people. Unbelievable. And then the final thing he said was nobody expected Frankfurt to win the Europa League. Nobody expected Palace to win the FA Cup. You can see what you get with patience. This I think is a key thing because Loads of c um I said this on Stadio not too long ago. Loads of clubs. panicked at at the beginning of the season when they went on that horrible run. Yeah. And we were like it was like 'Cause Klasna came in last season. Mm. And was just transformed Palace. We were like and we were so excited about it. This is a great manager. And this is a great this is a really exciting appointment. Yeah, because if because you you you had pla like even as they obviously as they coming back losing Elise. As they're coming back and obviously from the Euros, it it took his time. time for Ezekiel to get himself going again. I remember talking about him at the start of the scene, I was saying at some stage We're gonna need to see more from Ebay. Everett. gonna need to see more because they need him right now, in that time. And They didn't panic. And played himself in. Play himself in the form at the right time. I had a conversation with him, it's gonna go out. At some point um saying that I'm You won't mind me saying this. We talked offline about this. Mm-hmm. And I was like Bro, you know they're you know they're saying stuff about your your end of the season, 'cause the end of the season always finds a bit of form. He was like, Yeah, you know, it's uh a hairy and I was like, What is that? And he said, You know what? It's been an interesting season. When you have a run in mate, we all know that football's about partnerships, right? Lisa was a great running mate for him. Not only did they have great chemistry on the pitch, they had amazing chemistry off it. And suddenly the weight of that output is now upon one person. It's very, very difficult to then just do all of that. In all of his interviews recently when he's been speaking about stuff, he said that how he's actually transitioned from growing up wanting to not make people enjoy the game. to get an output. But in Palace's team he's also had to work Incredibly hard as well. He's doing a lot of legwork in there. You're seeing someone that's this, you three or your player getting into challenges. So now he's probably at a point in the season where I'm feeling fresh. I'm fully conditioned. And I'm just floating and you know what? Even in this run where he's been scoring goals, he missed a penny against Newcastle that could have dampened his confidence. But you can just tell he's at flow state. So yeah, it it's great to see and um Something that really stood out to me is you mentioned Glasner um winning at Frankfurt and winning that Palace, right? There's something about the Eagles, right? He loves it, doesn't he? Yeah, man. He just he just loves them Eagles. Yeah. Man's got an affinity with him. But you know what? He's got he's had a track record everywhere he's gone. He he did really well at Wolfsburg as well when he came to the Bundesliga and Palace in the Europa League next season. Could be cut yeah. I'd love I'm so excited to see who they can Who they can add to that squad. Now to to bolster it a bit because Um If they get ahead of steam. You know, and la again, yeah, Dougie Freeman should get a lot of credit, man, with with what he's done, the way that he's farmed championship and just picked out gems. You know, at least a as a you know I mean? And and and and Walton, bro. And now essay from M from Mill Warner. So you y you just wanna see them Get them together, s sign the manager up. sign a manager and I'm very excited. Uh when they For the summer. I'm very excited for the summer. Even Lerma Lerma coming on, bro. And and and just stepping in for that's an unbelievable win a cup final. Stepping in cent centre half and bam, doing a job. Fantastic. This felt like a really special final. Obviously Man City fans are gonna be super disappointed they've won A lot of these. Um especially recently. And they've won eight. Uh Man City won seven. Especially the one for there. 2023, 2020 uh twenty nineteen. This felt like what? I mean, I know less than one in twenty one. 'Cause it came f a few years after the Premier League title. It felt slightly different for Leicester, right? Still amazing, don't get me wrong, I'm not for one second like talking that down, but I think If it happens without the Premier League title the few years before, it's even bigger that FA Cup. This is what the probably the Biggest FA Cup win since Wigan. Well look at you just have to look at how long Palace have never won a trophy in their history. This this is This is ma this is massive, right? Yeah. You know when I think of it, this is w sorry, go on, Mayo, go on, I'll say it after. No, I'll say it. I think it's the the context of the season. I think When the draw started to unravel. You kinda went, Oh. Something can happen here. And I think once Forest didn't win in the semifinal and City did what they did needed to do, you kinda thought, Oh, it might be the same old story. But as you mentioned, it's their first It's their first major trophy in the history. And When you looked at the teams. You probably fall Yeah, like City are gonna do them over, but they didn't. I mean, when Leicester beat I think they beat us. That game you looked at Lester's team and you thought to yourself You've got Tillismans, you got players that can you know, they can cause an upset. And we went in a great way. So Yeah, this is definitely a a a big one. Yeah. Big one. And it's because of the fan base as well. You know what I was gonna say about them finally winning the first one. I'm you go back to our one in nineteen ninety and you look at the team what we had. When we came from eighty five We progressed brilliantly through Up until ninety. Um just before I left, we're to cut to the cup final. got into the um the the the uh the first division. We finished third. Obviously remember, like this is the first trophy in Palace's history. I believe And this is how close it is. That we were seven minutes away from having this moment here. what it could have done for that team and Steve Coppel. 'Cause we finished third that team. Just win in that. And having that winning mentality w that we've won something and we're challenging in this division. 'Cause it's a time we we finished third, we couldn't get into Europe because of everything what happened with Liverpool with ISIL. So if we could have won it then, which I'm hoping that could've ha what's gonna happen for Palace now. Team kicks on. Because I think our team would have kicked on with that win. So that's how big I think this win is. I know it's come thirty five years later, whatever it is, but You know what I mean? That's why the fans said they would take a win and never watch again if that was was was given to them. So I'm really excited for Palace and Steve Parish. European football coming to you. Fright. So them European buses bro they're gonna How do you get there bro everybody's always complaining about how do we get to Paris bro it's so hard to get to What I really love and we've alluded to it is and I really love the fact that Even though this is a moment for the current team. It's been great to see how previous teams have embraced this team and given them their moment. Like, right, I've got to give I've got to shout you out. What you did was amazing. Watching Wilf. Just you know, watching the boys on, amazing, watching Balassy. watch the boys on and and literally channel his energy. Amazing. This is a real club where play for Palace, I think you have to really understand the club and community. Um you have to understand that it's it's more than just football and that's with every club, but there's something special about Palace. So for them to have this moment and the efforts of so many players, past and present, to be sort of ending in a moment like this is it's it's beautiful. I think everybody recognises what it means. 'Cause it is a great football club. It is. It's a great football club. It's a great and you know, and y when you get the right m owner, th they've had some owners before They could never get into the same vicinity as a businessman. Or a or a fan. that they say that they were. um before Steve Parish. That's why you hear some really negative things said about him by former owners or former chairman and that but like they couldn't do what he's doing. Because it was it requires patience and skill to navigate. what he's navigated to get Palace to where they are, with Dougie Freeman, with the recruitment. you know, with the spending. You know what I mean? With the different managers they've gone through to try to get to where they are and now all aligned for palace. So it should be very exciting for Palace fans. Right now it should be very exciting for Palace fans. And so why I have to go back to what I said Um earlier on. They have to make sure that that manager is signed up. I don't think he's signed up yet. I think he's um he's still nego maybe negotiating because I'm hearing that Borussia Dortmund want him. Why wouldn't they? Oh, I don't know. I think that 'cause Kovach has done such a He got them into the Champions League, which they looked miles away from that before. He joiled. So I I think I think he's he's got another year left at least. So he's not gonna go to the city. You can't tell me that that win that win doesn't make that that that that puts you out it's like a light you've sent out. I mean I think his I think his track record's been there though. You know what I mean? Like I think the European thing is the big but I think winning the FA Cup with a club like Palace for the first time, I think yeah, it does put and what he's done since he's got here right there's negativity than the positivity. Again in the UK I think we sometimes underestimate global that cup competition is. Yeah. maybe we get we take for granted in the UK or or dismiss a bit in the UK in a football sense means quite a lot. Somewhere else I think. I'm I'm glad you mentioned that, right? Kind of like a theme of a lot of the conversation we've had today is um the magic of the cut, man. We look at Newcastle. Winning air trophy. Yeah. This is what football should be. Um I remember, I think it was about two years ago. I went to a FA Cup game at Sellers Park. It was a nil nil between Palace and Everton and I remember midweek. that heavily rotated side and I thought this is genuinely think that with where football's going, especially in the UK with what we've seen this season. it's gonna give a lot of teams this feeling of well if they can do it and they can give that to their fans and they can have that feeling. Then why can't we? West H really special. West Ham in the conference. Conference. Yeah. West I think West Ham triggered a lot of a but West Ham lit a fire under everybody saying, What are we giving our fans apart from just being here s surviving? Yeah. Let's save slave off relegation, stand on and and and Take a large like a a large sigh. A big sigh, bam. Instead of going for it, man. The pool of clubs who can win the big, big, big trophies has narrowed to a point that we've never we've never been in this position in the history of football. Ever it's beautiful though, innit? 'Cause I mean, we often say that the Premier League's the most competitive league 'cause anyone can beat anyone, right? Mm-hmm. FA Cup by winning six games and conceded one goal. You can't tell me that there's not many teams that can get to five game stretch and if they gave it everything, potentially win and I know we have our mixed thoughts about whether the semi final should be at Wembley or not. There's teams that their fan base has not got to see Wembley's not had that day out. You can do this as well if you really want to go after it. Yes. Yes, and that's what we gotta do. But you know what like I say, just before we we we end it, right, what was good about um going to Wembley yesterday Again, it it rhymed when it reminded me of when I was a a a youngster and effervescence and the happiness of the fans go in there. We've had so many FA Cups in in recent years where We know the teams, we know the outcome, the fans don't look too buzzed about it, it's just they're having a nice day about it. But Palace fans Genuinely. for me went there like yesterday with pure hope. in their hearts to go and support their team the best they could and you could feel it in the air. You can feel it because n there's nobody that I I spoke to a lot of people spoke to B B C guys as well before everybody was saying, you know something? I just kinda I fancy palace. Everybody was just saying, Yeah, I fan Fancy palace. So you know it's it's it's pro people maybe had that feeling and Palace did it, bro. And I'm I'm I'm really pleased with him. Onward and upwards for palace for me. Listen guys. I'm gonna have to leave you now. My first club has won their first trophy, so I can just go and sit down and smile for a bit. Congratulations to Steve Parish and Palace and all the Palace fans. Thank you very much, Mayor Kwadry. Thank you very much, Ryan Hunt. Thanks for listening, everybody. And once again, I'll say congratulations, Crystal Palace. Have a great You know what? They got a game on Tuesday. Make sure you're celebrating till Tuesday. And then when you play that game, when you finish the Tuesday game, go and celebrate again, bro. For the years that you haven't won it for. Can I just quickly say the Christopela's Liverpool game is gonna be one of the funniest festivals of festival. I wanna see that game. I wanna see players jumping on opponents' backs and just messing around. Listen, take it easy everybody. Listen, we're gonna go. I don't want us to get into another ten, fifteen minutes of talking about this. Thanks to you later, everyone.
