Podtastic now works with Android Auto
Podtastic works with Android Auto now. The car is where most people do most of their listening, so here's what you can actually do from the dashboard screen.
What you see when you plug in
Library is your shows. Queue is what's lined up next. Just Press Play is the recommendation feed, and in the car it's the one people live in, because it doesn't ask you to decide anything.
Press play once and drive
Just Press Play fills itself. Start it as you pull away and it keeps going: when an episode ends the next one is already queued, drawn from the shows you follow and what you've been listening to lately.
No scrolling a list at a junction. That's the entire point of it.
Ask for a show by name
Voice works. Say "play" and the name of a show and it starts, without you touching the screen at all.
Skip and speed from the car's own controls
The Now Playing screen in the car has real controls on it, not just play and pause.
There's a control that jumps you to the next Smart Topic in the episode, so you can move past a section you're not interested in with one press. Playback speed is there too, so you can push a slow interview along without picking your phone up.
It plays your downloads
In the car, Podtastic plays episodes you've already downloaded, including ones still being prepared.
Worth knowing if you drive often: leave automatic downloads on for the shows you actually follow and there'll always be something ready to go. It also means a tunnel or an underground car park doesn't interrupt anything, because nothing you're playing depends on signal.
