Podtastic 4.1: CarPlay is here

Apple CarPlay support shipped in Podtastic 4.1 today. If you've been waiting for this, it's the headline change in the release.

The short version: update from the App Store, plug your iPhone into your car, and Podtastic appears on the CarPlay screen. The home tab is Just Press Play. Tap once and a personalised queue from the shows you follow starts playing. No scrolling, no menus.

What you get on day one

• Just Press Play as the CarPlay home tab. One-tap listening, with the playable episode count visible in every row so you can see at a glance how much is queued under each show.
• Your Library, for browsing playlists and podcasts when you do want to pick something specific.
• Now Playing controls for speed, skip, and adding an episode to the queue mid-drive.
• Hey Siri for play, pause, and skip ahead. Eyes on the road, hands on the wheel.

How to turn it on

There's nothing to configure inside Podtastic. Update to 4.1 from the App Store and CarPlay support is on. The setup is on your car's side:

• Wired CarPlay: plug in via a known-good USB cable to the CarPlay-labelled port.
• Wireless CarPlay: pair in Settings → General → CarPlay → Available Cars on iPhone.

If Podtastic doesn't appear on the CarPlay home screen, go to Settings → CarPlay → [your car] → Customise and confirm Podtastic is in the visible apps list.

What's next

Android Auto isn't in this release. It's a separate engineering effort and we'll ship it as its own milestone. The broader June 19 changelog covers everything else that shipped in 4.1, including the new freemium tier and the move to $2.99/month on the annual plan.
