Tempura, deep fried Be Ben is a love lover of Italian food So it's qu my Italian that. I poured it really badly. Th things don't grow so well in the shade. And then we're gonna have Kentucky fried Pheasant burgers. Oh, now that's got me by a surprise. So much so you can't speak English anymore. But you can't speak Welsh. No, I wasn't expecting that. Thank you very much, S, you better go and Thank to Ready. comeome up. Chrissy, Ben from the Shires, welcome. Hello. Hell. This is great. Thank you for joining us on the table for four. So to chat and eat. Are you hungry Always Yes. Al hungry. And that's that somebody else is cooking for us is an absolute bonus. Do you know who's cooking? It's not just somebody else. It's not just anybody. It's what's his name? he is Sam iss cooking for us today and he's going to prepare us an a parotif and a starter. But before Sam brings that over, we're gonna to do some quick fire Qions if that's okay. Okay, then, I would like to know out of the pair of you, who is the most adventurous eater Oh no That's really interesting. I think that's you then. Yeah probably has to be I just love yeah wherever we're touring going to Nashville, I just love trying Who is more likely to take a picture of their meal It's quite a traditional thing, isn't it nowadays for people to photograph there Food do either of you serort?ly, definitely been Yeah It's more just for posterity and memory, really. Wherever we go when we're touring, I just want to remember this was amazing and I want to come back to this place. Yeah. And also I cook a lot. so I take sort of pictures of my own food. but it always looks rubbish. Yeah, you do it when we've cameras aren't you? likeike professional cameras are Yeah I think it's fake. Yes. I's a strong word, But it's saying that you do enjoy cooking. Wh do you think is the best cook out of the pair of you me We both love food. I mean my grandad was a chef, my Italian grandad, so food was just always a thing. My Italian side I got to Italy I remember these massive meals where we'd have like course after course, you'd have your antipaste of pasta,, the fish, the meat, know everything. So we spent hours just eating. So I had that side and then my black side is Jamaican. So my granny would just cook rice and peas every Sunday. so Oh my for. just I didn't have a takeaway til I was I think like eleven Yeah twelve, and when I had it I was like, what is this? And also the other thing I'll say when I went to my friend's house as a kid, my mom always cooked everything and I went to my friend's house when I was about seven ood that they had I was like, what is this? This is rubbish. It was like turkey twizzlers and you know peas I was like, so food was just a massive thing for me. So with my kids now, you cook all the time for your kids as well. but yeah, I'm just every day. It's like a bit of a break from music as well. I just love the creative side of it of putting something together and that's not musical and then you get to eat it and make say there's your second passion then Yeah, ye. Yeah. I mean I'd love to have a restaurant one day. yeah, I just absolutely love that. I love food so much. I'm so excited to be here. Well I supp to disappointing because it is Turkey Twzlist. And that Sam's fault. It's not just the cameras that are prorofessional. So when you are out on tour or you're recording, who chooses the restaurant Q quick fire, isn't it? Yeah. fire. It's okay th. my name next every pressure. It's interesting because We if we're out gigging doing a show, I had to eat specific things. I literally cannot eat spicy, like tomato based things yeah, just like if you've got a show in a few hours time, you're just gonna feel heavy and you don't wantan to sit there with acid reflux overnight where that's going to burn your vocal cords. So yeah. I'm always specific, whereas you're like, what can I try? what can I experience in Manchester today Cry? Yeah, I've got all my spots around the country, Manchester with Curry Miles That's where we go. And we have to be specific because If we're on a tour bus, thank you. If we're on a tour bus We can't go for an Indian or anything like that. You know, if we're going back to the bus, nobody wants sixteen people on a bus beat an Indian. That's a no go. Yeah. You can't you're not allowed to pill on the tour bus.'s any tour bus. No no No, you're not Like ever. So you know, you've said any tour bust. Do you think that is just like a general rule of thumb? Yeah, because it has to like, oh my gosh, is that that's not that be Well I'm embarrassed about it. Oh my gosh What is it about that one? I it really badly Oh I've done that so many times is a special request beer. I didn't know I' requested this. This beer is extremely strong. It's douvil, isn't it Dval? Dal I've heard many it could explain eight percent or something. I've done that sever many times in the fight. Yeah. If I start swearring and having a great time, I completely understand Yeah I' drinking responsibly but it's an irresponsible drink Yes, yes. half of it left. As for the pair of you, who is the best at Share End the food when you go out I do help. I always say I do say to you, Ben, Are you finished with that like and I Can I get in on that? mostost of the time that's me at the end of a meal or maybe mid wanted to share your food Yeah, Chris, you always grab something from my plate which which is fine. Are your drinks first of all, I feel really bad because you were getting really excited about your drink ' red wine because wow. Apparently you love red wine and white wine. but I left the white wine in the freezer and the red wines left. And we've got I feel like I need to apologise for everything that's about to happen. Yeah well is it? Not good. But the food's about to arrive. So we've got stuffed courjet flowers, which are going to play on your Italian roots and they're stuffed with mozzarella and then we've got like an olive tomato olive oil Wow We can cl. you can definitely check c. Oh look at that. come on let's get straight in there. Wow straight in hold on I to have a second. I used to serve, but I was and fired. Wow. Do you find, you know, when you go off touring and stuff, do you ever miss cooking yourself I mean and when you go back home afterwards, you're like, oh my God, I just want to get in the kitchen. I just want to start, you know, doing stuff because it would be my idea of heaven, just having someone cook for me all the time. But do you want to just get back in there and just get cooking? Yeah, I really crave like After like four weeks on the road, eating quite salty, heavy stuff and ye I just cred like a boiled egg boiled egg with like some soldiers and just but just really plain food. We' play your cast, right? Yeah us outon night. Soft or hard. You guys met on Facebook In twenty thirteen, correct? Yeah. Yeah. So tell us about that. How did that come about Yeah I had just I mean, not signing up to Facebook don't worry about that email address, put your password Yeah. No, I had just got to country and it's funny because you've been lifelong fan, ha wereven't you? Yeah, I loved country music for a long, long time, but it was one of those kind of secret things that you didn't really talk about. and like I studied music for years, you know even my friends out of Union and they were like, you never mentioned that you liked country music. There was like one My housemate's sort of boyfriend, he would play country music. so we would play that in the flat, but then we would never tell anyone about it. And came out of Union and I was like, you know what? I just I love that genre of music. And I'll just do a couple of little YouTube videos and just nobody needs to see them or like I'll just throw them out there And thankfully I did because then we had a mutual friend who saw those ye, our friend Naura, who had seen those videos. So she was like, Ohh, She likes country music And she tagged me into the status of Ben saying that he was looking for a female country singer in and around London who could, you know join this duo with him. And we literally arranged to meet up the next day. We was just so excited to find someone else that liked it. know And did you live quite close to each other? Yeah, that was the other thing. Literally Chrissy lived like half an hour, twenty five minutes away, so she came around the next day You know, it's so easy to look. I told my m mom where I was going some guy off of the internet, you know, that's like Yeah but y' fine I was in St. Albans at the time andah Christie just came around and It was pretty instant recorded some songs straight away. And what was so nice is we got to do it the old fashioned way as well. So we met on Facebook that day next day story. and then we literally recorded some songs, wrote some songs Our first S, what was it at first? It was like a pub It was a pub in Biggles Rad. And I said to you It was meant to be my gig on my own, like doing like pub covers And I used to bring in my own equipment. I used to carry everything in like the whole setup. And Ben was just like like what is going on? I said, J come along. It'd be really good to just see how we work together because you know, we have the su together. so I said, it'd be really great if we can just sort of practice our craft, learn how we both work. And so we did this pub and honestly nobody clapped really, did they finished You were so dishearted. We're playing some of the same songs we play now But they're not different songs. It's just that, you know, we were good I' not being arrogant. we were good then better now, but we were good then and people just just didn't you know, they're just there to drink beer. and I had had a solo deal years before, which didn't work out at all with Krim Bailey Ray and Katie Tunstall. Even iny one house as well. So I was like How are people not clapping? This is crazy And Chry you' never been through that industry side What was so nice for us is after we did A few of those shows, we met someone from a cider festival who Like he was a bit drunk, but he was like, oh, I know Jameroquoi's mananjone It wasn't the manager, but it was someone who ended up becoming our manager, I called Steve. And then everything from that moment was just so fast. Like we went and met Steve And um in a restaurant in St. Albians and then he was like, I think there's an opening for you guys Country is you know, it's not big yet, I think you're passionate about it. There could be something there. And then we literally signed a record deal. with. I mean so eight months after we met, we signed a record deal, twelve months after we met, we were in Nashville for the first time. And I'm saying to Chrisy, I was like This isn't how it works. You know, I was signed for three years, got dropped And you know, I was quite sort of cynical, quite low. And then Christy and I were just just riding this everything we did. It was just so easy because it was just so the whole duo thing, as you guys know, working together was just it was so instinctive and so natural. and then it still is. We were just pinching ourselves. were like is This is so wild how quickly it's happened, you know, just to havepect one another, to start writing songs straight away, start just going out on the giggin circuit. and I mean, it was cle clearly meant to be. I was really interested about what you were saying about the stigma attached to country music. When do you think and who do you think changeed that When do you think that changed and who do you think changed that? Before there was a stigma that it was music that is not of little worth or you know, it's We can relate to, I think, also Because like you say, it was comoming out of America and we didn't get the whole cowboys No Texas vibes and that, you know, living on a ranch, you know, we just didn't really relate that think the story is like the classic one is always deead dogs and divorce, you know, that sort of the thing I think About ten, fifteen years ago, you know, the stories changed because in Nashville, now particularly a lot of songs written. It's so modern, it's so progressive. see. I genuinely thought when we were going to Nashville, in my head I was like, there's going to be tumbleweed. there's going to be tractterors and people wearing like like you know, like those overall type things. I don't know why I thought, you know, all boots and stuff and I got there. I was like Oh, it's like a legit city like London. know it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. And it wasn't until I went outside of Nashville a little bit further into the kind of countryside and I was like, oh, this is what I thought it was going to be. But the music there is just absolutely everywhere. And the standard is incredible And for me, it's the stories as well. The thing you talk about escapism It was so exotic for so long because it was like all these stories that especially the landscape as well we went on tour It feels exotic to me. Absolutely Yeah what I don't understand is' so authentic Yeah. It's so authentically but I guess if you've never been there, you don't know that it's authentic. And that's all the thing that that's what we said when we first got together, we were like don't want to be like doing something pastiche and like playing country. And I think I'm not unfair to say, the reason a lot of UK arists hadn't taken off in country at the time we got together. because when we went on YouTube and looked, it was just like people dressed up in cowboy bootsing we were like going down to Texas and we were like you're from like Baselen. Like you know what this kind of thing. Yeah we made a real commitment at the start. We were like, we're only going to sing about stuff that we know and What country is for us is the storytelling and the authenticity, like you just said, That's what it is. if we stick to that And we still do. You only write about things that we know. we also did like a lot of similar artists growing up. yeah talk to us about that. Do you have similar artists in common that you particularly like? The likes of like Westlife and Ronan Keating, you know, L was. They were bringing over the big country songs and then they were making them into pop hits. And like Shana was there. Leanne Rhymes. and I had no idea because I could only access what I could hear on that radio or such But then when I listened to Chheni's stuff, all of a sudden, the US versions had like fiddle on it And we were like, Ohh, we didn't get that version. Oh Yeah so they would do different versions to suit our market so that we could listen to it. So they were always country songs and I just loved them. Yeah. And you had the same We didn't know each other growing up obviously, but there was one radio show we used to listen to. Can we say names on here? Is that al right? Yeah Well, I wantan to know so you can tell me now Yeah It was Graham Torntingon's late night love It was like a love call in show and he play all these love songs. And I think it was like, I was in Somerset at the time. I lived put my child in Somerset and you were up in Bedfordshire. Yeah. And we were both listening to this, you know as kids and he would have like It's like your bedtime routine. Yeah It was part of it. listen to. Yeah I used put to sleep time you like first minute sleep listen to g. So we were both doing this stud didn't know each other you know Yeah And he had these like call ins that was amazing. That sounds through things than you. lovely. Yeah, he'd have these call in,n't it be like,h, I want to send this song out to John, you know, I haven't seen him for a while. all these things stories. But then all these love songs be played. Like Chrisy said, a lot of them would actually be country songs. They've been brought over and sort of turn into pop songs. I think it was I mean I can see why you wouldn't broadcast that at school the next day But it's fascinating. For me, I don't know when the first first A kit album came out, but for me it was then I heard it and thought, o, cps we're allowed to do this now. Do You know what I mean? It's like oK, this is allowed now. This is cool though, is it? Yeah So it must have been It must have been fantastic when that was all happening and you were allowed to express yourself and express your musical desires through what you've grown up with It all it was it was like it all fell into place Really strangely just everything made sense. I remember going to Nashville and thinking They werear sort of the same stuff as what I do. I would go into different charity shops and just try and find anything that was like country and Western because I just loved it. I went out there and I was like, o, I fit in over here. You know why I didn't really do that My little town back home, you know, But I really love the style And yeah, and it was lovely to talk about the music. And then when we you know fans came along and we were like, o you like country music as well, Oh my goodness, you know, it was a real lovely community that we found. D you feel like it added another level to your songwriting when you were recording and everything in Nashville and writing in Nashville Yeah, I mean, that first album we did actually, I got to say, it was so funny because like Christy said earlier, everyone out there is so professional. They're so amazing. And we just signed this big record deal and you know we had these three days booked in the studio And there's always these band members coming and they were doing it live, which is unheard of. Like normally you go in a studio and you can move everything around with a compute and spinagers. We had a live band playing our songs. and they basically listened to our little demos and then they write out a chart called the nurational charting system. So it's like one is a certain chord, four is a chord, five is a chord, six. And these guys, that's all they do. They just go to a studio every day and do that For us, it was like the biggest thing in the world. This is our first debut album. For them, it was like another day atwork, basically. and they're there with these charts. They're just there and And like the listening to the song. they each't They're also chatking to each other. They're like, Oh howll your stocks doing? And they's like, ye, I'm doing a rightch and how's your property up in Bar, know? And then I was getting really annoyed. I was really pissed off. I was like, pen A lot of money, you know, a lot of money. and this is also the biggest thing for us. these guys are not taking this seriously. Anyway, the first take, they walk in I'm not I get goosebumps genuinely because it was like they played And I was like, oh my gosh, this is like, that's it. That's just done.. That's just done. The first take was like That's that's it It's all done. And they're like, I will just drop in on you know this bar here or I'll just drop in in here and like they all just spoke about what they wanted. it was It was like a machine the way that they were working and they were just so used to working like that. If you want to, use cutlery, there's something in.'re we allowed to pick up, kind Yes, of course, justust go for it. Then you do whatever you want. Yeah So the song a day in Nashville, is that writing? Do they write a song a day? or is that what it? Yeah, I mean yeah, that's what I love about it. I come from a songwriting background. Chris comes from more like a performing background. I think that's why we kind of like work so well together. Are you guys going with cutlery for this? I'm jumping in. I'm jump jump in. I'm cutting in half. Do whatever you want. go. Do whatever you want. It has just been deep fried, so could beic. the first trip was writing, actually the very first trip. so songwriting And I've got a story from my first writing session, which I probably I don't know it's not prop. What go want tell that? It'sppropriate for eating. We wrote this guy the chase. It was our first ever trip to I don't tell this. Oh. I know it now. We sat in the room and like you know this guy is so he's young but so southern and he's got like, you know the ball cap on, he's got his like you know, whatever and he just looks really really country and we're like they this is so Just three of us in the room, never ritten with someone from Nashville before. And he's got these two red solo cups, you know, the ones from like college movies. And we're like, whyy have we got two? And he basically had this chewing tobacco. You One for his water and one for his sort spitting and spitting out kind of thing. Oh my. like do you ever get them mixed up? L he's like ye Yeah A's disgusting I'm really sorry that we'reating, but yeah it was like, you know, it was but he like someone like him Ch he's a massive songwrer now Chase McGill. so we w one of his first ever sessions. he just moved to Nashville. Now he's had I'm not exaggerating like I think ten or fifteen number ones. But it's that kind of city. You go there, he just would write a song every single day. just go with an artist and you sit down like, o what should she write about? What's going on in your life? you know let's write a song. And you can make an incredible living, not money wise, yeah, but also just what alive, just to try and tell stories every day in songs. I love it for that reason. There's a whole performing side as well, which is amazing, but the song of dayay thing at least, mean we've written three songs and today easily before. But it's quite well known, isn't it that Dolly Parton, wrote, Jolen, and I will always love you in one day. Did they kind of think that two is too much? That's too much. Pushing it out. People forget, she's an incredible songwriter. Unbelievable.. Pe people forget she wrote those two songs, you know Yeah, in the same day, like you said. I mean, that is incredible What's the most memorable meal you've had in Nashville Oh. They don't do Indian food very well over there, do they? There's one place. There's one place. Oh, I like it that it's memorable because it was back. Yeah just. don't know it this chang. I haven't been I say it was bad. But Well people in Nashville like it. You know, but we're like we're much better over here. Yeah, of course What's our favorite spots? hot chicken, like you said. You happy Chicken is so good. You have to queue around the corner.ike they're happy to stand in line and wait to get into the restaurant. like Yeah, it's really good. I always go straight for the barbecue. that's just my thing. So there's two places O one called And there's Martins, and then there's Edleyyss. Those are the two big places. and I just always go for the ribs because we just We don't ribsed. just No, no, it's just not a thing. And the whole barbecue way of cooking, there's so much Jamaican stuff because you they had cheap cuts of meat and they had to make, you know, how can make this taste really nice? So with the ribs, they just obviously cover it in loads of sugar and paprika and all that stuff, but then they cook it on that slow thing and you just can't That flavor and the ribs are so massive. they why huge ribs That's the first. They've got big chests, somethingven't they?. if you two were going to open your own restaurant He's wor sort of rest from what do you want to do Yeah I feeling it could be ribs. It's got to be B. Bringwidge benford. Yeah. That's what you need to do. You have a name that was ribs and Rifs G it away. it away. that now is that yours now?. That's yours as long as we can go. Yeah. So you know coming back for your new album now Bonfire. What was that like? Because I mean, my gosh, you've had a baby? Two in two. Two in one go. Oh my gosh. I went in with two straight away twins. Iess you had twins? Yeah. Yeah, I know it' mad, isn't it? Was it it yeah, were you shocked? We were sitting like o Oh my gosh. You didn't know you han't. I't know I was ha't But dealing with twins in, you know for the was that a shock? Yeah, and I was humongous by the end of like we were touring and thankfully, Ben had been through the whole twin kids stuff before me, notally children himself. But he knew from his wife, he was like You're not going to be able to make it to like certain amount of. You know? And I was like, yeah, yeah, throw it in the dietary. It's fine. We'll do it. And thankfully there was one at the very sort of later stages of my pregnancy that Ben was like, you're not going to make it to there. So yeah, we luckily didn't. and I was pretty sofa bound by that point. but I did manage. I think I got to like thirty weeks gosh was good. I was just ginormous. I don't even know how where the Breath support came from, you know, It a breath of breath. I know. I it' a breath breath breath. Were there any particular foods that you had to take with you? I mean, what were your cravings and Well, I love pickles anyway. like anything pickle is like my jam. so I didn't even I remember having crazy Cras Do you remember them? No, I don't think I know. The thing is the pickle thing is abnormal. It I obsessed to pickles. Yeah, I drink the juice out of the jar, know like just. I like it when they like they you get these like vinegar sweats across here. It just like opens up all your pores. If you've got like a hangover or if you've got a really bad headache, just swrig out the jar and it it just it cures. If you've got a hangover, I quite like it's like that That's not my go too. No's not. It's the only way I drink whiskey as well. it's called a pickleback actually. So I would like I don't like whiskey at all. It's a Drink it with a bit of pickle juice at the end. Oh who. It's lovely, but yeah, I'm just strangeed like that. That's like one of my favorite things. And then you've been doing your podcast, haven't you? Yeah, countountry rooads, whichich is amazing, you know, because I think Getting to interview a lot of these country artists, especially the US. ones, you know, we just we get to see behind the curtain a lot. I'm sure you guys do with acting and we're doing this as well. and you know what really goes on. but I think actually that you forget in that podcast country as I sort of go through their story, bit like you're doing today going from where they started to where they are now And it kind of unlocks this memory of like why we all started doing what we do because you just you love the music. likeike that thing you described about going to another place. know We forget that sometimes. you know do you know we did fifty shows last year, We did forty odd the year before. and like you know you're just going from place to place You know, we're on stage and some nights we really feel it And sometimightes you don't, mayaybe you're bit tired or the kids have been up or whatever whatever. But for the audience, you know, they we're so lucky our fats just absolutely love our shows and we're very grateful for because it's a really tricky time for tourum. Um But yeah, that podcast is great for me because I get to just get reminded of that. And I've hadard some big artists on there, Really big Ashley McBride, who's massive artist at the moment Charles Kelly, who's one of the reasons I got into country. L when we first met, we wanted to be like Lady A or Lady Anabbeell And Charles is the lead lead singer, Cod lead singer from there And I remember vividly when I first met Christian in St. Albans, I run a lot and I was running around I remember like running eightK, listening to their stuff was going, I just want to be in the same room As Lady Y one day. just want to just be near them Yeah. And the first time we met Charles actually when we were at top ten for the very first time. So we'd just gone top ten and we literally about not movie, we'd about to pop the champagne we literally about to pop it. And then our agent saidone someone wants to come and celebrate with you. And he pulls Charles in. Oh my God. Charles six foot four, six foot five I was star shuck anyway, but I am much shorter than that. There this photo of us just like just gone top ten, Charles had just come in and I'm just looking up at him like Wow hero Charles.' time no Champae And he's filmed the podcast now and know I can message him and we chat and you know, it's just I think the podcast is great and it reminds me how far you know we've come And how far countries come as well, The fact that the UK act, you know, we they kind of see us as peers at times, which is such an amazing thing Well, talking about that, I mean, if you were going to have a dinner party, what would be your favourite dinner party guest? Who would you invite? have many three? As many as you want. Okay, long segment. You have to have Dolly. comeome on, you've got to have Dolly. Yes. Of course She might still aland there, but she tell a lot of stories. Yeah. H stories. She' some stuff she comes out with. Yeah You heard one about her feet? No. someomeone was saying, Dolly you got such a little feet they were working with her. She, honey, things don't grow so well in the shade. That is so cool. It's cool' so quick. I just love it. So Dolly. Dolly would be fantastic, wouldn't it Who else would we love Charles Charlesood KDA. have Charles. Faith Hill was one of my absolute faves growing up. like she was incredible. So I'd love to pick her brains You know, that'd be great to chapter her over the table, I think Big singer, big vocalist It doesn't have to be a big meal. Yeah, that's good. Yeah that's really really Yeah. Yeah. You like cooking lots and lots? Yes, lots and lots And presumably you've cooked for Chrissy. Do you know what? I don't think I don't know he has Re I don't think You you know? I think we spend so much time together working a lot, like a lot of time together. And then when we go home, we just do family time. you know, there's that break between us that we go and just hang out with the families, but we always cook for our families, don't we I think you've ever What would you cook for Chrissy if you were going to cook for Chrissy? Oh Well, if I was cooking for Chrissy, I don't w want tona be horrible, but your catchphrase is so for onour. I thing you said earlier about what do you crave? Yeah Chrissie's always like, I just want meat and two veg. That's what she said, Oh, I just want meat and two veg. Simple kind of gl. So I'd have to do, yeah, just like a steak He loves steak, going. Yeah, I love steak. Heways trying to sort out a steak on the road. It's just good. And then you just like like broccoli and . steak brociickles. sounds nice. Sam. It's lavish, isn't it?. Well, what' you cook for Ben? Oh I could not cook for Ben. It would he would just be like, it's not got enough seasoning, it's not got enough garlic in it If I was good at cooking, it would have to be a pasta dish because Ben just he just loves any type of pasta dishes, don't you That's your favourite. Thank you, Sam. The Pheasant was a touch dry, so if you got a pint of pickle juice. I' to wash it. That was lovely. thank you. I've never had pheasant like that before, so that was really lovely. Yeah. I think all the reason we've had pheasant. Yeah, correct. Yeah, because I grew up eating pheasant like on a Sunday lunch. Every day all day every day every day E day. How's it go Christin? No, I grew up eating it like on a Sunday lunch. I'm from the countryside so There's a lot of sort of shoots locally that go on game birds and stuff. Did you both grow up in the countryside then? And tellell us, you know how you came up with the name the Syz Naming a band is the hardest thing be in the world. It is so hard And that was Chrissy's idea Yeah, and actually I think you pooooed it straight away quite early on, didn't you? I was like, we were listing all these different names And I said, what about the Shires? Be like you're from Hertfordshire. I'm from Bedfordshire. You know, there's loads of shhires over the UK. so I feel like it's quite British thing, it's very country. and he was like, no, you can find better. So ye. Our first gigs we were out doing our surnames which aren't even our surnames, but we go under those aliases, don't we So we were Earl Rhodes a while, weren't we? We sound like an old man, didn't? O Rads Rads. It's quite hard to say are old Rads. But we just loved the name The Chyots and it's so f. And it really retains our kind of British countryness. that was always our thing, like 's not changing who we are. We are from here. We want to keep that. So we get in America all the time they say is it the hobbit? No, it's not the hobbit. No, It's not the hobbit is Yeah British thing Yeah. So is the new album out July third is coming out. July third We've got a massive year though. they're playing you're touring the album presumably? That's in November. Yeah It is really exciting. We've beenit out acoustically, so it's just been the two of us. It's been the two of us tour. Oh my gosh, what people! Talking of the new album? That's not gonna A There we go. Mike catch fire It's a tiny bonfire. Do youil's always burned slightly too long? Is y? wow, Yeah. we've got time.'. There we go. Wow. I' Do we have this on When will it become more?. We're starting to delve into it now. Apart from the What' the flare, what is it So we're calling it a bonfire cake, but it's got like lots of ginger spices in this. it's like a ginger sponge. It's covered in meringue and then that's been blow tor Well . I feel like after your story about not getting applause at that early gig. Yeah wead as much as we can.'s have to do fact when we put it together, we'll just add applause over. Every time you answer a question or anybody say anything, we'll just have like an applause track. This is so nice, but it is awesome.'s doing. Oh it's finish Well, we've got Why are you taking it away? I can't sering it because you don't anything. I was going to ask you about the new album. Did you record the songs in lots of different places then, lots of different mad places? Yeah. We were touring at the time, so we were going out every weekend Trying to make it accessible for us to go like manage the kids in the weekdays Write a new album, record a new album and then we were going out on weekends touring. So We were under a sort of time frrame a deadline and we decided that would be in the summer holidays, you know, when all the kids out mine are too young anyway, but Ben had all of his kids. And so anyt timee we were together out on the road, we were like, right, get in that cupboard. Let's record this song. you know let's recording. this this microphone along with us and it would just be likeike wherever you recorded all your parts in your shed in the garden. and a lot of mine were, but there was a few times when we were out on the road and it would just be like we would just fill cupboard with a load of pillows and then it would just be me stood in the cupboard and I'm like, is that okay? Yeah? Oh my Godd. Wow Those poor hotel guests that were having to deal with us at like ten AM most likely before we getting kicked out, you know Yeah. It supposing you can do it that way. Like we talk the story the first year records, you know, the full band stuff and now we can We can fit around our lives and stuff. And also I think it's nice you get to live with the songs for a while. We write these songs and then backack in the day you had have to go straight and record it straight away. and the songs kind of like they just sounds really heartfelt and earnest, but they do change. and your relationship to them changes and you've lived with them for a while, especially Chrisy is a singer. she knows a song better She's going sing it better. so Thank you very much. But to be honest, going on tour is bit like going on a holiday now. Yeah to don't do the school run. mean being here is great. I don't have to do the pickup today, which is amazing. I to pick up we know that feeling. I know it's hard, like fitting. I mean my gosh, the thought of trying to write an album and record an album and fit that all around the kids and everything is so difficult. But then when you get to tour, you can have a blast We are all enjoying not having to do the nursery pickup ofire! don't have to be responsible. We hour and a halfam about this won't. We'll cut that bit out. We've been working hardond day. Yes. I don't know about bonfire, Sam, but this is dynamite. It's absolutely delicious. isn't it? Isn't it wonderful So you said you've got quite big year, you touring the album in November. Yes. Festivals in the summer. We're doing High partark with Garth Brooks. Oh wow. That's amazing Our plan, I had this crazy idea. to get everyone line dancing. Oh try and get fif thousand people line dancing. If it happens it'll be an unofficial W world record, I think, which I'll take to my day.. So we've got that festival. We got Jeremy Clarkson's one soon. Yeah Is?. But ye the our tour, that's what we're looking forward to. you know we're doing thirteen dates And like I said earlier, it's a really hard time for people people are squeeze money wise, you But people just are coming out to see us and it blows us away all around the country, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester,' not going to Cornmall, and they're really annoy about that. It're so pissed off so.it you put a thing out and it's like, whyy't come to Cormall? We' forgot about Cornwall? It wass like we didn't ask us to go. We'd love to go back. So yeah, we're looking forward to doing a big year. Yeah Sounds fantastic. Oh god, she Oh my God we got w What is going on? For this one you're gonna have to take. Wh it'll all become clear in a second.
